Some (too many) mental notes & questions about D. Gray-man!

(SPOILERS UP TO CH. 247 & sorry if the terms used are awkward esp. the localization of the manga, I read it in french!)

I recently re-read DGM as the new chapter came out. I stopped catching up after volume 22 years ago and I am so glad I re-read the series!

If it was already beautifully sad and cruel, the volumes 23 to 27 hooked me even more. Like other manga (eg. Witch Hat Atelier, Berserk), the panel composition was already beautiful in the previous volumes but I was fascinated through my reading. The attention given to hands in these volumes (like MHA) was mind-blowing!

The Allen-Kanda-Johnny-Link group (and now Tiedoll) works really well, I didn’t expect that at all! Oh, and the character development/decline of every character is great, especially Allen & Neah, Kanda & Link (and Cross and Road in those flashbacks?????).

DGM wouldn’t be DGM if the mysteries didn’t keep growing even more cryptic as the story unfolds, so I guess here are some notes and questions I’ll come back to one day to see if they are answered!

► Now that we know the D. in DGM stands for ‘Dear’ (I already sense the tragedy in the title for both Allen and Mana aaaaa), I don’t know if this was intentional, but Mana in front of the mirror strongly reminded me of The Picture of Dorian Gray, especially the end (I shouldn’t have read this scene late at night, I was spooked haha). The characters of Allen and Neah, shrouded in mystery, also encapture the elusive personality of Dorian Gray.

► Paying extra attention to all the parallels between the Ghost of Mater & the Artificial Exorcists Arcs was Pure Pain. I’m always amazed how far the details go and make (even more or a whole new) sense later on.

► Lenalee and Komui’s story touched me once more aaaaaa ► Miranda’s power is really cruel, I wish we could see more of her someday ;;

► Road used for super-human the word ‘choujin’, which also seems to refer to the concept of übermensch in japanese ie. the ideal superior man of the future who could rise above conventional Christian morality to create and impose his own values... NOW THAT IS INTERESTING.

Especially regarding Road and Cross meeting & Allen’s prophecy as the ‘Destroyer of Time’ (the fact he could ‘sense’ Lenalee’s dream and interact with it, Cross ‘death’ by Apocryphos hands, past!Allen’s mystery over his rejuvenated body, Apocryphos observation on ‘Allen’s’ long existence as a parasite, and so on …)?????????????

And could she have a link to Allen and Lenalee’s dream of the future?

► The overarching theme of humans, akuma, Noahs and even the Earl at God’s/The Heart’s mercy manifests in many little plot points eg. the Ghost of Mater (that could even foreshadow the whole Cross/Road meeting), Road dressing Lenalee as a doll, Lenalee and Miranda taking their suffering as the Innocence testing them, Link turned into a puppet, Crown Clown and so on …

► Could this be Campbell’s mansion Allen will visit in the next chapters… ?

► Reever’s devotion to Komui ;;;;;;;;

► Fascinating how everyone except Allen is at risk of becoming a Fallen One, despite everything he does ‘against’ the Order, God and the Innocence: it could be explained by the role he was given by the Heart now that we have a bigger picture And it is foreshadowed since the Suman Dark Arc:

-> When Allen says Suman betrayed ‘God’, the kanji for god is used (kami), but the furigana read as Innocence:

And Allen even says later the Innocence punishes sinners as God itself, devuring Suman from the inside like a worm ……….

-> While Komui says he has betrayed God and the furigana read as God this time:

I love the word plays in the original versions with the furigana (I wonder if this has a name?), another example:

The kanji for family, kazoku, is read as the english « home », which we always saw used to describe the Order as a comforting place to return to: the Order was never Suman’s home, he always longed for his family

► Will this ever be explained? That, and Cross's special bond to God or the Heart!

► Could Cross be a Bookman?

Neah’s flashback mentioned an ‘excentric uncle’, so it could also be Cross, given how he remembers Mana’s smile from his childhood, I am Confused Or he could be their childhood friend, as his appearance in the flashbacks suggests he would've had the same age past!Allen, Neah and Mana would have, around 35yo? Idek anymore! Either way, he has an obvious hold over his age like past!Allen, maybe through magic or their nature?

Was the unknown language Bookman spoke when the Ark was disappearing in the sky the same Mana taught Allen? In Komui’s corner, we learn Bookman knew in advance they would synchronize with an Innocence when their mission began???????? Do they somehow have links to the Heart or Apocryphos? Are they from the doomed world Road told Cross, as some sort of witnesses of the Noah's struggles on behalf of God?

► Tyki’s nature is hinted at by Road even as early as ch. 93, and the confrontation with Neah in the volume 26 makes me really think he’s some sort of copy of him

► This panel is Pain:

► I love Lenalee and Lavi’s relationship so much!! Lavi’s arc was gripping, and took Lenalee’s words on the boat (‘am I still in this world?’) to a whole new context

► About Luberrier :

How in hell was he aware of the 14th without even Cross telling him? His dialogue with Zuu before saving Link strongly suggests he knew the 3rd gen. project would cause the Noah attack on the laboratory and the 14th awakening, isolating Allen, as though he made a deal with a Noah or sb else. The ch150 (Hevlaska and Luberrier’s past) is haunting me, I’m really curious to see where this is going!

► About Link : We know so little about his past, how he became a Crow, how his devotion was built by the Administration (Link’s flashback with Luberrier after recovering was scary, how easily he gave in & Luberrier’s whole behavior was ugh)! Komui’s corner mentions the two red dots on the Crow’s forehead are scars left by the operation that made them sorcerers against their will + Allen tried to touch it, which made him mad GAHHHHHH I NEED MORE CONTEXT

Ch247 hurts even more considering Neah used the same words as Allen to greet Link but rang false aaaaaaa

Link’s profile is cut from the Central Administration’s organization chart from volume 25 (when he admits feeling conflicted over Allen’s fate), before his profile was included in the same box:

Komui’s corner once mentioned comforting food thanks to the emotional value they hold eg. Allen and Cross’s porridge. Link says he had something similar so I wonder if this will ever be showed in the manga!

► About past!Allen: This might be a reach, but ch221’s flashback made me think Atuuda’s magic (its symbol in particular) can be linked to past!Allen with the whole spiral of life theory (+ the fact his body rejuvenated by some miracle):

There are also many parallels with other dynamics in the manga: -> Neah-Cross & Mana — he was set on eliminating anything else that draws near Mana, as a promise he made to Neah -> Luberrier-Link & Neah-Allen — Luberrier needs Link in order to protect and save them from anyone -> past!Allen & Neah — he promised Neah he would protect his memory from anyone (-> Kanda & Alma — he was the only one that could save Alma)

(I don’t want to think about Link potentially becoming another host for Neah, sacrificing himself for Allen for example aaaaaa)

I saw Hoshino’s sister loves Link’s character and what happens next to him will potentially be pure pain, I get her because his potential is skyrocketing and I’m definitely not ready aaaaaaaa

► What was even going on between Neah and past!Allen???????????????

► Allen’s past was really devastating. Mana’s words by the sunset ;;;;;

► In ch216, Cornelia’s wood destroys Timcampy in a similar way Red is bound eyes and ears from the scene when the Earl comes back in the circus in the recent chapters (with those little black hands)

► The parallels & oppositions btw Kanda & Link (the potential of the trio Kanda-Allen-Link!!!!!) : -> both presented in a negative light at the beginning -> both now deem themselves unworthy to be a part of Allen’s life: Kanda is glad Johnny is there to support him, Link says he will disappear from Allen’s life if he defeats the 14th (and also That Panel when he saw Allen come back to his senses and save Johnny). Both have feelings they suppress when it comes to Allen, in a stark contrast with Johnny’s honesty -> both were objects of experimentation/intensive training but Kanda feels no loyalty to the Order, while Link does strongly to Luberrier -> both wound up with a shortened lifespan they hide atm (Kanda as a Fallen One & Link with Atuuda) -> both were targeted by Apocryphos and had their memories rewritten -> Kanda wants to kill the 14th, Link is ordered to aid him -> hands shown as holding dominion over them both (the Innocence, Luberrier and the Heart)

► Predictions for the next chapters: Since Johnny is going along with Allen & Link, there’s a chance : 1) Link will drive Johnny away so Neah wakes up ; 2) Neah will do it since he sees everything through Allen’s eyes and even challenges Link’s ‘loyalty’ 1) would be logical as everyone in Allen’s group feared it while Allen accepted the risk but given the whole arc, Link seems VERY conflicted over the whole matter (and their shoujo-esque reunion damn, that and volume 25 whole vibes) Also Road seems to have led Allen to the mansion through his dream because she thought he was dangerous (????) AND a ‘bookman’ was there, so a lot will happen!

content: (🦷) tooth-rotting fluff, you and kenma have a baking project, kuroo barges into kenma's house, kenma doesn't even mind anymore (it's like it's normal at this point), reader is the one getting ratted out on, kenma's mother's appearance and name is made up.

note: AAAAA THANK YOU SO SUPER MUCH!!! i hope that i got kenma's character right because he's a bit of a challenge to write (ooc kenma scares me :p). i couldn't really get the prompt sentence /exactly/ correct, but it's the same concept. ENJOY READING!!! :D

"you want to bake what?" you ask, surprised. kenma kozume, your partner for the home economics project, wanted to bake an apple pie. in truth, you aren't very close with him, so you didn't expect him to want anything specific for the project. you always thought that he was more of a "go-with-the-flow" kind of boy.

"an apple pie," he clarifies. "if that's okay with you."

"no, no! don't worry, it's a great idea!" you reassure him with a shiny smile.

time skip.

you and kenma were walking to his place. he suggested that you both could do the baking there, and you were fine with it. you kept kicking little pebbles around while kenma had his gameboy out, having already memorized his way home.

soon enough, you both arrived at the kozume residence. the door opens, and there stands kenma's mother. she was actually quite tall with long dark brunette hair, her eyes golden and cat-like, similar to her own son. she had abundant beauty.

"well, now i know where he gets his looks from.." you thought. "hello, ma'am! my name is y/n. i'm kozume's partner for an upcoming project." you introduced yourself.

"my, my! kenma, you didn't tell me that you were inviting such a cute girl over." his mother teased. you look away out of embarrassment. too bad you didn't get to see the faint blush creeping up on kenma's ears. he grumbles something inaudible, and kenma's mother eventually lets you both inside.

you explain to her what you and kenma would be baking, and she helps bring out the needed ingredients while kenma changes upstairs.

"my name is hiromi kozume, but you, dear, can call me anything you want." she says. "o- oh, okay, ma'am!" you shyly stutter out.

suddenly, the door is kicked down. there's a familiar upperclassmen of yours, popular for his athlecism in volleyball, his intellect, and.. his looks.

"hey, auntie! i just wanted to check up on my favorite insomniac." kuroo joked, knowing how truly wretched kenma's sleeping schedule was. hiromi merely chuckles. "yes, yes. he's upstairs changing."

before kuroo advances any further, his eyes land on you. "that's odd. kenma invited a girl over?" kuroo states out loud. "i know! i was shocked, too." hiromi exclaimed in relation, "honestly speaking, i thought that my dear kenma had finally gotten himself a girlfriend."

hiromi smiles warmly. "pretty, isn't she?"

before you could even retaliate, there's shuffling heard coming down the stairs. "could you two stop being nosy, please..?" kenma asks.

"not bad, kenma." kuroo pats kenma on the back, as the younger boy huffs. what does that mean..?

time skip.

it's been a few months since that very incident. now there's a new project, and you just so happened to be kenma's partner again.

"can we go to my place this time?" you politely ask, and kenma nods. he knows that you must have felt a bit uncomfortable from kuroo and his mother's constant teasing last time. every now and then, you and kenma's hand would brush against each other, and hiromi would have to hold in her giggle behind her teacup.

the sight of the two bashful teenagers reminded her of the years in her youth. how cute!

and kuroo.. well, let's just say he got kicked out of the house early by kenma.

time skip.

"hey, mom!" you cheerfully greeted, letting yourself in the house while kenma followed shortly after. you both took off your shoes and neatly placed them on the shoe rack, switching to a pair that were fit for the interior flooring.

"hi, honey. who's this?" your mother asked.

"kenma kozume. he was my project partner last time, but we did the project as his place instead, remember?" you said, trying to help jog your mother's memory.

"oh! you mean the boy with the looks?" she remembered, at the cost of unintentionally exposing you. she took a good glance at kenma, who stood there, taken aback at her previous sentence. "you're right. he is quite handsome."

"no, mom—!" you internally panicked, your face blazing red. "you didn't have to say that out loud in front of him..!"

unfortunately, you two barely got the project done because of all the sheepish communication.

Castlevania Dracula’s Curse and I have a love hate relationship; I love it and it hates me (I am stuck on a level it is so so hard) . But yeah :3, the gang, the group, the travel companions.

Full body Grant doodle >:D. The Grants are taking over oh no— Did you know the cool looking knife he has in a couple promotional artworks is an actual specific type of knife? I looked it up and the closest match is a Polish bandit knife, which is a type of knife that has a lot of variation in shape but always has a distinct curve downward towards the end, it’s pretty cool!

Some of the only Alucard doodles on this page alas, there wasn’t anymore room for more of him (T_T ). I like depicting him with shorter hair in CV3, it mixes his CV3 and SotN designs really nicely. I also think it’s funny making his outfit kinda Kid Dracula inspired lol. I’m pretty sure there is one CV3 concept art that has some similar elements augh it’s been a while since I’ve looked up CV3 Alucard arts. There’s also one Sypha doodle here too :3.

The next two are based on a couple like draw your ship memes I ran into, the second is specifically based off of that one “hot yaoi base” lmaoooooo. Anyway, I love Sypha she’s so cool. I need to draw her more often, I have too many design ideas aaaaa—

(It’s more of a fix-it fic than a au but lol)

Ask and ye shall receive ig

The short of it is I force data sora and data riku back into the story while flipping nomura off for the re:coded ending ft. Riku and data-riku being friends, data-soriku being fun, and minor 358/2 references. I’ve been calling the au Re:Boot!

Full concept under cut: (it’s pretty long)

The long of it is during re:mind the data battles crash, and the Final Fantasy group+Riku theorize that it might have something to do with Jiminys Journal (seeing as the data battles are made with data from the journal) Riku goes to Disney castle and it turns out yeah that’s probably what’s happening! The Disney castle computer displays the words ‘there are new hurts to be undone’. Riku is sent into the datascape in order to help with said hurts.

The long of it is Riku enters to a really bugged up version of the data destiny islands, and is told by the Disney gang from the outside to find a way to get deeper into the datascape and help out. (System sectors). Riku finds it and enters.

First and second levels of the sector go pretty standard, fight the buggy heartless and all that however one of the bugs for the second level has a similar silhouette to sora, which is a little unnerving to say the least. The third level looks like rikus data(from when he got bugs in him) and the Disney gang loses contact with riku at this point.

(YES the three stages getting more buggy the deeper you go is a reference to the boss stages in re:coded. If you even care)

Riku looks around for a bit and D!riku (that’s what I’m calling data-riku rn) notices him from somewhere in the datascape, and teleports or something to him. After the initial ‘we’re the same guy’ convo D!riku tells him about the bugs, and how he believes that they are caused by D!soras amnesia, as he gained a heart, which is currently sleeping due to the reset (hearts can be destroyed and all that yk the deal). Since the datascape is sorta centered on d!sora, if something’s wrong with his code it might affect the datascape. D!riku tells him that since the reset, he’s been working to attempt to find soras heart, but he hasn’t been able to make much headway (maybe because a heart is separate from data, and isn’t as easily manipulated)

(That’s my idea for why he wasn’t really there in the post reset stuff on soras side at least )

Well where is D!sora you ask? Well let’s go see! They teleport away and oh frick is that the memory pod. (Things are getting uncomfortably familiar for riku) D!riku has him in there as he works to find and wake soras sleeping heart, (instead of having to like, chase him around the datascape with a computer or something, sleeping heart doesn’t necessarily equal sleeping guy in this situation so we just put him in a coma). D!riku opens the way to D!soras data, and in they go.

They search for a bit, and when D!riku gets frustrated at the lack of progress, the bugs slightly worsen (riku notes this). Riku asks a bit about d!rikus relationship with d!sora, saying his drive to protect him is something they have in common. D!riku actually somewhat denies this, reminding riku about how the datascape is centered on sora, d!riku—to some level— is the datascape. it’s just a part of his programming, the journal correcting a glitch in the system through him. Besides, d!soras the one with a heart, d!rikus just a really good AI and also kinda a clone. Riku is so skeptical of this.

Riku says that he doesn’t believe that, d!riku fights to protect d!sora because he just cares about d!sora. Surely d!rikus noticed the bugs grow stronger the worse d!riku feels, if the data scape affects him, surely he affects the datascape as well. And a system as advanced as the data scape wouldn’t be programmed to destroy itself. By going to such lengths, d!riku proves he’s more than his programming, he’s more than the datascape, he has a heart, and he cares about d!sora in a way a line of code couldn’t.

Well that revelation kinda broke d!riku but that’s fine. The bugs lessen however, so that’s a good sign also the final boss dark side shows up. The rikus prepare for a fight, and d!riku recognizes this as d!soras heartless. (Bond between d!soriku manifested in the datascape bringing their hearts together) They win the fight, and recover d!soras heart, which is still sleeping. Riku uses the power of waking, tracing the bond between him and d!riku, and d!riku and d!sora. Rikus able to wake up d!soras heart, restoring his memories, and the rikus leave his data.

D!riku thanks riku for the help, and releases d!sora from the memory pod. D!sora and d!Riku reunite (i fight the urge to reverse the kh2 scene yk the one) riku feels comforted in his search for sora (idk he sees the bond between data!soriku as able to physically manifest into bringing them together so I mean why not real soriku?)

The trio go back to the surface of the datascape, Disney gang gets to reunite with the data-gang and they apologize for not being able to help more (“gee well, if we knew you were hurting, we would of sent someone way sooner” “We can’t just leave our friends behind!” Or something idk) and riku comes back to the real world.

Riku talks to the data boys through the computer, d!sora asks about sora which is just a little bit of a punch in the gut (reminder this takes place during re:mind) but anywayyyy d!sora wonders if there’s a way they could enter the real world, since riku was able to come to the datascape. (They probably couldn’t :( they never had physical bodies, they have data bodies) Riku thinks about it and realizes hey wait a minute isnt Evens whole job making bodies for hearts that need them they totally could come to the real world.

So riku calls up Even who’s intrigued by the idea of hearts that existed only in data, and how they would manifest in the real world. So needless to say, he gets to work. A while later d!rikus separated from the journal, and the dynamic data duo is brought to the real world yippee!!

(If you’ve ever seen my redesigns of the two data’s they would get their new outfits right here)

And that’s the main idea! I’ve had it for like,,,a couple months? But it’s been stuck in my brain for a while and i like it a lot, just got a Ao3 account so maybe I’ll write it but no promises

my girlie,for context,a method isn't necesarrily needed with shifting!! I'll explain :)

Now,reality shifting is itself,a concept. Just like how time is a concept. Reality shifting is pretty much pure manifestation but with a different name. Most of us in the shifting community use LOA (Law of Assumption) to shift,which you can use for anything since manifestation can get you anything and I mean ANYTHING you can imagine desiring. That money?Yours. That car?Yours. That "fictional" man?YOURSS. Anything is possible. Now...how do you use it?

The Law of Assumption is literally what it says. What you assume to be true, is true.

But all you really need to know is that if you want something,it's already yours the moment you desire it,regardless of what the 5 senses tell you. You don't have to wait for it because you have it in the present moment. This also depends on your belief system and how your own mind works,but it's not needed. It's that effortless and simple!! I recommend you try the ladder experiment first before you dive into shifting so you have a better belief system (you can search up the ladder experiment neville goddard on literally any app and something will pop up)

The way I do it personally is I just accept that right now,in this moment,I have shifted (I'm looking at you Teyam🙈) and I dismiss what the 3D (outer reality) shows me. Of course,somethings can go south so I have a photo (not mine!) here that shows what you should avoid while applying the law:

I also use nonduality (not a method!!) to understand that there is no duality between me and my desire,because I already am it. I already have it. There are a lot of people here on tumblr talking about the law and it's pretty neat how this community is so nice to each other. You can have anything.

And to update you on my Pandora reality,I've been spending one week at a time there,shifting back and forth because I have an exam here on Earth and I'm preparing for uni. But on Pandora,Teyam is starting to come by my lab more and more everyday,not to mention that he's getting pretty comfortable around me and with mating season gone (it was ACTUAL mating season in here,it was feralll) I heard from a friend Pxi'ri from the village that my warrior turned down like a dozen men and women during mating season. I wonder why 🤭🤭🤭

He actually came by my apartment at the human outpost 2 weeks ago and I was a WRECK,I'm not used to having people over ESPECIALLY HIM but he's so nice and sweet,we had some tea and ran over some RDA raiding plans but I was blushing like crazy,he came at around 6 PM right after he finished training some younger Na'vi and AAAAA his muscles all swollen up???I wonder if he saw me blushing 😭Also this man CANNOT drink alcohol at all,he gets lightheaded so easily and I tease him about it. He's so cute when he pouts,especially when I call him "big kitty" instead of warrior :)). Oh right and you know how there was an eclipse here?On Pandora we have it everyday but our breathing masks have a slight tint on it so if we're outside at Eclipse,we don't need glasses because they made the masks with that tint GAH i dont know how to explain it😭

AAAAA im so happy you liked the concept of Avains !!😻 I often just imagine it as humans but with wings or your alternative self in another universe <3❤️ i wanted to request someone that would be willing to wrtite for this but i couldn't find anyone so im super glad you liked it !!😭❤️

I also have some small headcanons for this one :DD

1. I bet Rung would be collecting various feathers beside his arks and ships :D❤️

2. Ravage would have so much fun messing around with poor birdies bc he's a cat and i just think Ravage would enjoy bullying them :D

3. I think many bots would politely pick (kidnap) Avians to match their plating colors and just overall would keep them perched (tottaly not willingly) on their shoulder for display

4. Decepticons, mostly seekers, would use brightly colored ones for training like in harry potter where he had to catch the golden snitch. I think seekers would use them for this

5. The djd members would kidnap them for work, since they can fly and since they are able to keep a low profile to be a spy or a messenger bird

6. Ratchet would totally like to have a Woodpecker or Great Gray Owl by his side

Oh and don't even get me started on the various scenes you could come up with😭❤️

2. Ravage bulling the avians reminds me of Scar in his introductory scene of the lion king with that rat.

3. Rodimus would see a red macaw and go oh I want THAT one.

4. That’s terrifying I love it.

5. Now that would be fun to write. I’d like to see the spy get rescued but not trust the rescuers. Or, when they do trust the rescuers, have them be a double agent and get back at the djd. (How successful that goes is up for debate)

6. You know I think rung would have an army of ravens or crows. He doesn’t know why they keep following him but he tries to be nice.

I can imagine Starscream having a peregrine falcon avian and he would not shut up about them being the fastest. Or he would get a pigeon because it’s funny. Or a goose because they’re assholes.

I can also imagine autobots teaming up or forming an alliance with the avians after they realize they’re sentient, and rather than forcibly having them by their side it’s a mutual partnership. The decepticons still do it forcibly, it would be interesting to see the relationship between an escaped avian learning to trust an autobot.

Oh man.. why!! Why did those hunter guys have to show up right then and there! I feel your pain Sun... You'll do it next time buddy, I believe in you.

The bear trap scene aaaaa!! OOF their reaction after saving Y/N from loosing a leg.. the stress, fear and anger running through them must be absolutely INTENSE! And then there's Y/N causally just wiping demon goop from their friend, not even giving it a second look jdhhdhhfdjdk XD

SICK SICK SICK!!! Damn that went fast! Y/N's immune system really isn't the best huh :p

Aaaa they're a big hungry beast! They must be going through absolute hell just laying there next to a perfectly fine meal that is also the love of their life.. I LOVE the detail that they have to pull away their spasming claws and deny Y/N's desperate plea to hold them close. Their hunger is just too painful. They're probably very afraid of accidentally doing the unthinkable as well, they've rarely gone without food for this long but they've also never had such a close relationship with a human before. They don't know what could happen if they wait too long to eat.. maybe the starving beast would eventually just take over. I hate that they're suffering, but I LOVE THIS CONCEPT SO MUCH!!! MONSTER CHARACTERS MY BELOVED!!!

The rake scene played on my worst fears, I loved it! The way it interacted with Y/N felt very special. Like it clearly was planning on hurting them or killing them, but something stopped them. Was Y/N's lack of screaming and constant thoughts of it all just being a bad dream deterring the rake? Or did it sense a demonic aroma or presence around them that made it think twice before sinking it's claws into them, in fear of the dire consequences. And then it twitched like it heard or sensed something, and then awkwardly leaves like it's in a hurry. Hmmm..

Absolutely amazing chapter as always! The amount of times my face warmed up from the sweet moments and the times it went cold and pale from dread during the spooky moments is a new record! :D

Oh my gosh, I'm really glad you like the bear trap scene, eee!!!

splatoon 3: side order ~ ale's 2024 game reviews II

oooooh guess who finished side order (like, actually 100%)! me baby! and yes i've technically been playing splatoon 3 since 2022 and this is for games i finish this year BUT side order is a totally different game mode so it counts :p also it's my review i make the rules

spoilers ahead! although if you've paid any attention online there's no huge spoilers going on.

i finished the tower on my 4th run i think, i'm not that good at this game okay. but i did finish it on the day it released! i got a bit sad because i thought it was too short but then i realized you're supposed to replay this a bunch of times and the story keeps going! so it ended up lasting a couple weeks for me. it could've been faster if it wasn't bc i needed to finish my catalog before the season ended, but hey that's better i think!

i like that the game forces you to do a run with each weapon, cause otherwise i would've done only the shooter and MAYBE the roller. but it was fun! i hate chargers and splatlings, but once you learn how to use the chips and get a bunch of hacks, it becomes easier even with weapons you suck at. also i love overpowering Pearl, it's fun.

the game itself is absolutely gorgeous. i found myself staring at the ink before starting almost every level. i'm a sucker for glittery pastel ink are u kidding me!!!! the design of all the characters outside KILLS me like what the hell they're all SO adorable i want one of those jellies in real life. also cypher's design rules.

the world is so pretty too, i love all the backgrounds in the levels (and that they reused animal crossing fish ugh!!!!), the outside of the building, THE LOBBY????? i can't start a run without running around with the cool lights and music!

i LOVEEEE that we got so much Acht! i was already obsessed with them before the dlc, like their design and persona was such a cool concept for me, and now we get to hang out with them and learn about them before getting sanitized omg i love it so much. also we love an enby in a nintendo game

i also love Pearl and Marina so much, fight me all you want but they're truly the superior idols of splatoon. i love that nintendo let them be so incredibly fucking gay in this game. yeah yeah it's not said out loud but i've never seen two characters more in love than those two bitches. good for them

oh and i fucking love Smollusk wtf. why is it so adorable????????? specially at the end aaaaa him and small fry are my sons

the only things i didn't like about the dlc are that they kinda teased something going on with agent 4 but then there's nothing about them? we have a palette and the clone thing looks like them and then there are a couple mentions here and there but that's it? i would've preferred if they don't mention them at all instead of this. i also would have liked a little cut scene once you finish all the weapons. i was a bit disappointed once i finished eight's palette you're just done with it and well. that's all! smollusk is now friendly and nothing more :/

aaaanyways i really enjoyed myself with this dlc! i'd say i enjoyed it more than return of the mammalians which i still haven't 100%. i've seen people say octo expansion was better but idc cause i never played it! so side order gets 4.5/5⭐️ from me :D love u splatoon

I always have concepts for Idia hehe!!! :D but which type of Idia would you like to hear about? The one who conditions you to rely on him for everything and anything, who is so gross and disturbed, who has too much power when you combine the degenerate hentai fantasies with big brain science....... or the one who is very bad at interacting with you in social situations, so he stalks from afar and only ever watches you through screens. He keeps putting off kidnapping you because he's anxious (not because he'll be kidnapping you, but because you'll be so close to him and there won't be a screen and anonymity to separate the two of you)......

Although maybe these Idias can be the same. (˘ ˘ ˘) aaaa but I think Idia hits differently when he's in Man of STEM Mode!!!!!! >0< either when he is rambling about the scientific process or about his own hobbies, the passion is always enjoyable!! I think arranged marriage is a fun trope to explore with him because his mother is so sweet and bubbly, and it's more so a case of her shipping you and Idia (lol) and wanting the two of you to be happy together. You visit the Shroud residence for dinner on the occasion when both Mama and Papa Shroud's schedules have opened up and she cannot stop eagerly rambling about how cute you and her precious Idia are, much to Idia's embarrassment!!!! She is his number one supporter; she wants Idia to have his happy end no matter what. :D

She'll always want what's best for her boys, so maybe she turns a slight blind eye if Idia's behaviors are...a little concerning. I think she'd be such a soothing presence if Idia knocks you up (whether you were willing or not in this endeavor). If anyone's going to sympathize, it'll be her, surely! And she does. Kind of. ;;;; she just sits beside you and has you rest your head in her lap if you're feeling up to it, and she shares all kinds of stories from when she was pregnant with her boys all while patting your head and assuring you you'll be a lovely mother. THE CONDITIONING ON THAT LEVEL....... and it would be so unintentional and unconscious on her part because she's just so happy for you and Idia, even if she only knows a small sliver of the story (or perhaps she suspects it), and she doesn't want you to stress yourself out with your own worries. From one mother to another, you'll do great (and it kills you inside because she genuinely means no harm with her cheerful support).

aaaaa the conditioning......... >_< and then of course it's impossible to escape. When everything's so high-tech and there are cameras and robots everywhere and the Island of Woe is so remote and difficult to leave??? That's basically pitting a level one character against a level 100 boss and expecting to come out victorious. You're so trapped but also so loved by the Shrouds. It's overwhelming.

Spoiler warning for Sonic Prime below, beware

So many things are going in my brain right now. A million different trains are running a million miles on high speed and I have no way of knowing which one to start with because oh my god

I finished watching Sonic Prime. And safe to say I am absolutely gobsmacked

What a show. From start to finish. There's so many things that I want to say about it. The characterization, the emotion, the animation, the end. Some of it may be critiques, but not in a bad way. I'm just. Genuinely. So happy that we got this.

What I will admit though, was that the fight scenes in this season seemed to be a little bit dragged on. They were bearable and fun to watch for sure, and there was not much happening, but I think I understand why they did that. 😆 Everything else though. Man

Shadow was the best he's ever been in forever. Just for starters. We need more of that Shadow on so many levels. The Amy's consistently teaming up with each other, calling each other sisters, holy shit?? That was the greatest ever????? Not only that but Dread naming Black Rose the Captain was so amazing I can't even like. Find the right words. It fit so well and I literally was vibrating like augh Like in general Amy had such good representation throughout the entire show, in fact both her and Shadow have and those were the two that I was worried for the most and I am so glad that they did them right

Sails and Mangey though. I thought they were gone for good for a long while there. When they returned I was so very freaking happy like aaaaa

Nine's entire deal was definitely An Experience, and I don't mean that in a bad way he was certainly a goober, but the concept of an evil Tails man. Very scary indeed HFHDDHD

But then. There was freaking. The moment where Sonic was about to blip out of existence. Where he turns around to the Amy's and goes "Goodbye Roses". And then when everything came together again and he called her "sweet Amy." With that look on his face and that stance. Am I the only one that feels vindicated?? That screamed and ran around out of pure excitement??? Like am I reaching or was that genuinely them telling us he one hundred percent has a thing for Amy??? I genuinely do not know but my heart wants to say yes and I am on the floor.

My only question is; what the heck was with that end?? I know they said that it was meant to be part of the games somehow some way but like. They don't show anything? The only thing we get is Eggman saying he needs a bigger fleet and that tells me that maybe this is before Forces??? But I genuinely have no idea augh

Does anyone else know?? Can anyone else figure that out like augh ahshhdsh

I really want to like. Dive super deep into all of the things Sonic no doubt has to tell his friends about what happened and his feelings about fighting Nine and maybe even missing all of them in a way and just. Yeah man wowie

Also the fact that Shadow appears out of nowhere to everyone except Sonic and takes the Prism somewhere, and he was like "I go wherever I want" that was so funny, especially since he too knows what happened like aidhdhdhdhhs 😂

But god man. Honest rating is 8/10 show. There were moments that were cheesy but ultimately it was amazing, and I loved watching every bit of it. :D I am so very sad to see something so great go so fast, but I suppose that's the nature of Sonic I guess lmao 😂

Well, if you insist. :D I found your fics through A Tear In My Eye (And A Shell On My Back) and aaaaa it’s the exact flavour of future fic I enjoy. Especially loving the father/son moments, plus mutated Casey is such an interesting concept to see explored in fic, I was really delighted to see yours on ao3. Did you go with your first design for Casey’s turtle markings (I love his swirls), or did you consider any others?

I actually did! I wanted to make his markings closer to Leo's markings than my other slider Casey (you'll see him eventually, but I won't say which fic, and it's very late game), so I played with different orientations of Leo's eye bananas. I knew I wanted the outer corners of his eyes to cut into them, but that was about it. His first official stripe design actually was more line a crescent moon than a spiral, and it was reversed. I only have one drawing of them from an old aggie.io. Looking back I also drew his hair way different than I do now lmao

HENRY T. EMILY (HE/HIM) ; A rather closed in and quiet man, a striking difference to his business partner. When not working, he's a father to twins, Charlotte & Samuel Emily!

ANJELA M. AFTON (SHE/HER) ; Mrs. Afton! The loving and cheerful wife to Mr. Afton. Her cheerful demeanor seems to brighten up a room at times, which comes in handy in her job as a nurse!

LORAINE EMILY (SHE/HER) ; Mrs. Emily! Shes a bit on the shy side, but is Anjelas best friend! Shes currently unemployed, but that doesnt mean she isnt a hardworker!

MICHAEL D. AFTON (HE/HIM) ; A 12 year old who tends to get into trouble sometimes. He gets annoyed by his younger siblings sometimes, especially his little brother, but who doesnt?

EVAN S. AFTON (HE/HIM) ; Mr. & Mrs. Aftons middle son! He has a bright future ahead of him and tries his best to be nice to others! He thinks his older brother is super cool though, despite him being only a year older than him, which can sometimes get in the way of his attempts at being a good kid.

CRYING CHILD (HE/THEY) ; The youngest son in the Afton Family, being 10. He's rather sensitive and quiet, but that doesn't seem to bother his energetic best friend, Charlie! He doesn't have many friends, but he doesn't mind. He also gets called a lot of funny nicknames, which makes it hard for people to remember what his real name is. I'm sure someone will figure it out someday.

CHARLOTTE J. EMILY (SHE/HER) ; Crying Childs BFF!!! Shes super energetic and fun to be around! Her favorite animatronic is Fredbear, or at least it is for now! She also thinks her twin brother is an alien, but thats a story for another day.

SAMUEL EMILY (HE/HIM) ; Charlie Emilys twin brother! He likes typical (HUMAN) boy things, like any other 11 year old!

ELIZABETH M. AFTON (SHE/HER) ; The oldest daughter in the Afton Family! She LOVES all things pink, ponies, and flowers. Also makeup! and clowns, surprisingly. She normally hangs out with her BFF Susie or with her dad, though it's mostly her sitting in his office while he works.

ABIGAIL S. AFTON (SHE/HER) ; The baby of the Afton Family! Shes a baby. erm not much info abt her yet!

SUSIE FITZGERALD (SHE/HER) ; Elizabeths best friend!!! HORSE GIRL 100000%. Shes very protective of her toys, especially her Freddys ones! She only lets Elizabeth touch them, and even then she watches her at all times.

SPRING BONNIE (ANY PRONOUNS) ; An animatronic rabbit! What more could you ask for? He's basically Fredbears other half! This type of animatronic doubles as a suit that can be worn by employees, though he's mostly worn by Mr. Afton!

FREDBEAR (HE/HIM) ; An animatronic bear! The main star of the show! This type of animatronic doubles as a suit that can be worn by employees, though he's mostly worn by Mr. Emily!
