福寿草[Fukujusō]
Adonis ramosa
福[Fuku] : Good fortune
寿[Ju] : Congratulations
草[Sō] : Grass
The area in my garden where these ones had been planted until three years ago was gradually shaded by other trees and they were weakening, so I replanted them in autumn of the year before last, and they bloomed vigorously again this year. Smaller ones flowered first, the larger ones are still in bud, and some small ones have disappeared. Apparently, some of them have managed to take roots.
It is sensitive to light and temperature, the flowers bloom in search of sunlight and do not open their petals under the shade, at night or on cloudy days. Rindō(Gentiana scabra) behaves similarly, although not as much as that.
It likes 木漏れ日[Komorebi] under deciduous forests.

One of spring ephemerals. It has been regarded as a good-luck charm because of its metallic golden flowers that bloom in the lunar new year.
The flowers try to get the sunlight. Its petals open when the sunlight hits them and close when it fades. After flowering, the leaves begin to grow, and the above-ground part dies in summer. It prefers wooded areas of deciduous trees with gentle sunlight filtering through the trees and will form colonies when the environment is suitable. A member of the buttercup family, it is highly poisonous.
