Do you have any knowledge on cockroach diseases? I found some of my hissers dead and other ones not being able to walk around like their legs were messed up. One Also had stuff coming out of its mouth

Some are fine but I'm not really sure what would cause this and I dont want my colony to die

while pathogenic diseases could cause the issues mentioned, I generally assume something going wrong with pet arthropods, including my own, is due to care issues, so I’ll need to know some specifics before I can make a judgement here.

“messed up legs” sounds like an issue caused by mismolts. was the dead roach very old? what are you feeding them? how humid is the enclosure?

Many pets receive small amounts of trimmings from the kitchen throughout the year; however, Thanksgiving tends to bring out an overabundance in everyone. Here are some food items to be aware of:

High fat foods, such as ham, gravy, butter, and desserts, may cause inflammation of your dog’s pancreas. Pancreatitis causes intense abdominal pain and vomiting and requires hospitalization to recover. Keep foods securely sealed and enclosed in a high space or the refrigerator. Secure the lid on the trash can to avoid garbage raiding.

Bones: chewing on bones, particularly turkey bones, can cause splintering. Once swallowed, the splintered bones can cause trauma to the intestinal tract, requiring surgery. Ham bones, while they tend to not splinter, are hard and can fracture teeth during chewing.

Onions and onion powder: in large enough quantities can cause a sudden onset of anemia.

Foreign objects: such as string (used to tie the turkey), skewers, plastic bags and turkey poppers. Your pet does not have self-restraint or the common sense to avoid these objects that drip of meat juices.

If you want to offer your pet something special too, choose alternative treats such as a new toy or extra bonding and exercise time. At the end of the day, you will be thankful you did.

hello! do you happen to know if it's possible to sustainably keep/breed silverfish or firebrats in captivity? i've seen some people talk about keeping them in terrariums and as feeders for reptiles/tarantulas, but since most people view them as pests the majority of the information i've found is just on getting rid of them, not cultivating more of them

google search for “firebrat care” turned up this, which seems good enough.

as hot and as dry as possible, fish flakes, and egg crate seem to be the recurring theme. you may also have luck looking for old forum posts on Arachnoboards or Dendroboard or maybe even the Allpet roach forum
