venn diagram overlap between bbc sherlock and good omens includes:
- short seasons with really long episodes
- queerbaiting
- fans recognize that the writing is bad but think the writers/showrunners are too good to make a bad show because it started out strong/they've made better work in the past so they make up theories about how it's actually all going according to plan and will result in an ending that justifies the bad choices (it won't)

From Reddit:
The show wasn't performing on a stellar level in S1 when Lestat was in every episode. The fact of the matter is this show had a lot going against from inception. For one, the source material isn't all that relevant today if I'm being brutally honest. That's why it took as long as it did for an adaptation to come to fruition after being scrapped and passed up on other networks. No disrespect to Anne Rice, she did set the path for all these other shows to tread, but vampire media has become a tough sell in recent years and it's popularity is no where close to where it was in even 2010. Fox's The Passage was a wonderful show that was canceled the first season. Morbius was a box office failure, The Strain-canceled, NS4A2- cancele, and Dracula (NBC) - canceled. Now throw in a show centered around a melodramatic gay vampire relationship? Very tough sell because queer shows often have their own set of struggles appealing to a wide audience (RIP Our Flag Means Death, and Good Omens was very lucky to be revived for one more season after being canceled).
I for one love the relationship aspect of the show, but it made IWTV that much more niche. The movie back in 94 was controversial because it was so niche, luckily it had the start power to make it successful but it messed up Tom's career for years. Even if every book reader did show up for this show (and they didn't) it still would have been too small of an audience. And I say this as an avid fan of Rice and a book reader.
I have watched nearly every person who has reacted to the show on YouTube who wasn't a book reader and guess who is their favorite regardless of race, age, or sexual orientation? Lestat. And guess which episode they all have liked best? Episode 5 because it was an escape from all the melodrama and actually had some action. Despite my favorite parts of the show being the Loustat romance, I can admit that most people aren't tuning into AMC, home of The Walking Dead, for that. I hate to say this, but the show would probably have performed even worse if Lestat was not made as extreme and off the wall as he was. You either love him, or love to hate him.
Unfortunately, we live in an age that quality shows such as this don't make it very far. Hence why television is so weighed down with police, medical, and firefighter dramas at the moment (yawn).
Nalyra, it sounds like the show really will be cancelled based on this. Do you agree with this comment? I know AMC owns the intellectual properties. What is stopping them from cancelling the Immortal Universe & selling those rights if it’s not making money & people aren’t watching?
Alright, Nonny, sorry I needed a moment.
cracks knuckles
Let me take that one apart :))
“The show wasn't performing on a stellar level in S1 when Lestat was in every episode. The fact of the matter is this show had a lot going against from inception. For one, the source material isn't all that relevant today if I'm being brutally honest. That's why it took as long as it did for an adaptation to come to fruition after being scrapped and passed up on other networks.”
Nope. It was passed on and from network to network because Christopher Rice wrote the script and wanted to start with “Wolfkiller”. Now, as has been detailed here by @cbrownjc (for example), that wasn’t a good idea, because it would literally give all the story away. And THAT is why it was likely passed on. Note also that when AMC finally acquired all the rights they scrapped that script immediately, and Anne and Christopher likely signed NDAs, because though they were/are Executive Producers… there is no statement, whatsoever. Which MIGHT have to do with Christopher’s rejected script. 😬
Also, I think the show has more than proven how just slight twists can make this source material immensely relevant for today. Their social commentary and color-conscious casting is top notch. Not seeing that… well. What do you want me to say to that? 😅
Fox's The Passage was a wonderful show that was canceled the first season. Morbius was a box office failure, The Strain-canceled, NS4A2- canceled, and Dracula (NBC) - canceled.
… Okay I did not watch “The Passage”, but the other ones. And apart from The Strain’s first season they were all very sub par. Like the first season of NS4A2? Intriguing!!! Second season? I wanted to bash my head against the wall!! The Strain I actually bought, and the initial setup was awesome… and then it just went downhill. Dracula… lol, yeah. I wasn’t surprised. And let’s not even talk about Morbius. (I think I was very drunk by the end of that one, lol)
Imho - it’s not the “vampire media” but the quality of said vampire media. And, let’s not forget - this is the Vampire Chronicles, the very basis for a lot of these re-inventions. It’s a very different kind of beast. And a very distinct universe, imho.
Now throw in a show centered around a melodramatic gay vampire relationship? Very tough sell because queer shows often have their own set of struggles appealing to a wide audience (RIP Our Flag Means Death, and Good Omens was very lucky to be revived for one more season after being canceled).
Yeah well, from what I heard OFMD killed of one of the very beloved characters there in very bad writing and… well. That didn’t go over well. (So I heard.) And Good Omens was never supposed to be more than three seasons afaik (after that initial ONE season).
It's not the gay or queer - it's the quality and setup, imho. It's why the rating is at friggin' 97% this time round. And why there is a whole universe being set up. There is just SO MUCH you can do with the VC.
The movie back in 94 was controversial because it was so niche, luckily it had the start power to make it successful but it messed up Tom's career for years.
WHAT. What are they talking about. Niche??? I was there, in packed theaters. WHAT??? Also Tom's career. Niche... yeah it was controversial, but not because of niche, but because it was very gay for the mainstream 90s!!!!
Even if every book reader did show up for this show (and they didn't) it still would have been too small of an audience. And I say this as an avid fan of Rice and a book reader.
🙄 To be honest (forgive me but), they sound like one of those hardcore book fans who stop after QotD because it’s “not the original trilogy” after. SMH.
That one… is probably true, I guess. Or at least in parts, I don’t think that everyone liked ep5 best, nor wanted to escape “the melodrama”. But there is a reason why Lestat is the main character of the VC, and why he is so iconic. And Sam…. manages to conjure him, on possession-level, lol shrugs
Unfortunately, we live in an age that quality shows such as this don't make it very far.
At least they acknowledge the quality :)) … this is why it’s so good we’re on AMC. They have experience with shows like this. And they own the books.
_____
Okay. (I think it’s clear I don’t agree with this comment^^)
Nonny, the show won’t be canceled because of takes like this, or through takes like this.
You ask what is stopping AMC to cancel the IU and sell it all?
Well, for one - who would like to buy it if they fail to develop it? They would NEVER get the money back if THEY fail to monetize this. And they did pay big bucks to get all of it.
There is a whole universe in those books. And I mean, Mark Johnson only said just the other day, at the fan premiere, that they’re developing Talamasca and more. Why would they put money into an adjacent show, if they were planning on cancelling the IU?
And, trust me, this IU… is built on the VC. There is a reason why Rolin Jones is on record saying AMC wants to do 10 seasons. They are going to milk this thing, for all it’s worth.
Also - people are watching. It has its audience. I have no idea where this is coming from - from the cable ratings? The show is #1 on all streaming sites. What do you mean people aren’t watching? :)
IWTV has been adapted before, and so I do agree with the OP wrt to some people biding their time. Which is something I low-key understand, even though I do not agree, because they’re missing out big time, and ultimately only hurt themselves with it.
But … trust me - when the truly “new stuff”(*) will happen?
I bet then this show will take off.
(* Mandatory disclaimer: IWTV is brilliantly reimagined, but some people seem to be stuck in the book structure mentally, even though we are far from “only on one book”. Still, for all intents and purposes we are on IWTV for the majority of the story, and (a lot of) that HAS been told before. However… we will enter never before seen territory soon. Have actually already gotten to see a revenant?!!!
Let’s… just wait.
But I actually, sincerely doubt this show will be in any kind of danger.

Pointing out some other little moments and details from the episodes that need to be remembered • part 2/2
here's part 1/2
episode 4
in my top 5 best scenes of them.
it’s pure angst and such a powerful moment, there’s the need to be understood by the other. simon starts the argument - he actively searches for a confrontation - and both of them end up speaking their mind, like they never did before but had to sooner or later.
it’s the reason of wille’s defeated expression in front of simon’s astonished one: he admitted that the crown prince role is the obstacle he's not willing to accept and overcome for the first time, not only to wilhelm - confirming his biggest fear - but also himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
edvin once wrote : "that’s wille realizing he’s transformed into the traditional image of a prince. he is lonely, he’s accepted he has to allow simon to love someone else. the worst part for him is that it’s himself who does the makeup".
i couldn't have phrased it better.
Tumblr media
i read a lot about simon’s recurrent behaviour in the locker room, waiting for all the boys to shower before getting in and the "i thought everyone had left" to get out. but he doesn’t make it a problem if wilhelm is the only one left in the room.
or him turning away to not be watched by marcus when he gets dressed, but not if it’s wilhelm the one who’s watching him, cos he feels comfortable and safe enough to do it - and let wille undress him too !!
Tumblr media
the “i get it, you’re not in love with me anymore” is what gets simon to lift his head up in zero time, not lower the gaze again but focus entirely on wille’s words.
Tumblr media
episode 5
wilhelm waving his pencil in the air to catch simon’s attention. they smile at each other right after, it’s a very simple thing but exactly the one they need the most in this moment: to share a look of understanding and reassurance - ‘it’s okay, we’re on the same page’.
Tumblr media
simon’s concerned expression.
it’s the first time he gets to face wille's anxiety for what it truly is, seeing how bad it can mentally and physically affects him.
Tumblr media
for unknown reasons i find comfort knowing both wille and simon happen to touch the frog in the same episode.
+ it’s the closest interaction between simon and erik we can ever get.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
episode 6
when omar said this is the most heartbreaking moment for simon he’s so right.
it is sara, it’s family we’re talking about and there’s no betrayal hurting more than one coming from a person you're supposed to fully trust, unconditionally. he looks at her not recognizing who he thought he knew so well anymore.
Tumblr media
it may be the same 'manifesto' from s1 shown again like a heavy reminder, but there is a very different and grown up wilhelm standing in front of it now.
Tumblr media
him being the only one not looking into the camera but rather down. it really sets the tone for what’s coming.
Tumblr media
throwback to s1 wille, when he folded the written paper of the speech in erik’s memory to continue on his own terms instead.
this is also it: the head shaking, the “nej”, the sudden choice of stopping to speak for others - not what his truth is -, throwing all away and let his heart speak. it’s such a power move.
Tumblr media
he looks back at simon to give him a reassuring smile. it’s the first thing he does when he stops talking and what simon also needed to turn his fear and worry into relief.
simon “i want to be with you and if we have to keep it a secret, then so be it” eriksson and prince “it was me in the video” wilhelm. they love and respect each other this much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
interpreting this as a ‘i hope you’re proud of me’ look to the sky aka erik? why not.
Tumblr media
+ bonus
boris is proud of him fr. he needs to be praised and s/o to one of the best quotes ever that was the turning point of it all: “we can’t choose who we’re born as, but we can choose how we want to live”.

season 3 part one thoughts:
ok ok i did finish B S3 pt. I and it's GOOD and i was really happy with it but now that my pulse has gone back to normal i'm realizing i have a lot of nitpicks/concerns with the storytelling but ngl the carriage scene was fucking BONKERS and my mind will be in the gutter for the rest of the weekend
MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW!!! bc i have a ton of thoughts on season 3 so far and have to get them out:
THOUGHTS:::::
-i could not stop smiling. my face hurts still.
-i don't get people whining about colin and the threesome. when the brothel threesome scene was leaked people were losing their goddamn minds about colin not being a virgin on reddit. y'all. he spent a LONG time traveling solo around europe--did you really expect him not to experiment the entire time? the fixation on this was kinda weird i gotta say. also i really liked that in the second brothel instance it served as growth to show colin was realizing it wasn't those women he wanted to have sex with, but penelope.
it seems every bridgerton lad needs a whoring about subplot in their respective season and colin was obviously going to get one if his elder brothers did, so i wasn't surprised at all. i thought the scenes were hot, personally. overconfident and super flirty col galavanting everywhere suddenly being reduced to a pining, thirsty af insecure boy was so gratifying to watch and those scenes had a hand in showing us that.
-i hate portia's costumes this season. hate. hate. hate. she looks like she was ripped right out of DIsney's Descendants set from the costume rejects pile. woof. she was stunning in s1 but s2 were her best looks and now she looks awful. why???
-i think the mondriches are ok and i like them but their story did not need expanding here. i'm happy for them but that storyline was boring and time taken away from more important characters. i know this sounds harsh but this season was already packed with storylines. across these four episodes there was a severe lack of Lady Danbury. one of my favorite aspects of Romancing Mr. Bridgerton was her friendship/mentorship with Penelope. that instantly made her one of my favorite characters. why not keep that in the show??? i'm so disappointed but with part 2 yet unreleased maybe it will still come?
-speaking of lady danbury, something about the way her brother is presented and how she treats him makes me worry for Violet, that he might disappoint her later. idk it's just a vibe i get.
-Luke's acting is fucking incredible. all the microexpressions and the lingering stares and subtle movements. nicola is a great actor in her own right but fucking hell, every time Luke teared up on screen I was mirroring him.
the carriage scene, when he's on his knees in front of Pen and she cups the side of his head and his eyes do THAT thing and the look he gives her? i rewatched that two second bit on repeat for a minute. amazing. (that's exactly the kind of devotion i picture when I wrote dark Dramione in TEOAL towards the end)
-we get it, benedict is a slut. he fucks. i'm over it. i'm not interested in who he's fucking. i know the consensus is Lady Tilley will somehow tie in to Sophie but i just do not care about Benedict rn. he is pulling focus.
-hyacinth's actress is so stunning! all the actors are obvs but every time i look at her i see Brooke Shields. anyone else?
-i had higher hopes for Lord Debling. genuinely kind of disappointed. he's boring and feels fickle. also the abruptness of him going 'i need a wife to tend to my estate so i can go travel for 3 years so be warned that i can't love you' to 'you have feelings for another man? i'm done-zo.' like what. you just said you can't love her and will never be at home with her but it's a fucking problem that she likes someone else? even though she's is clearly willing to get over it by marrying you??? bro. bro.
-hate what they did with Colin's hair for most of his scenes. why flatten it all out and take out the adorable curls he had in the first episode????????????????? episode one hairstyle was god-tier. everything after that makes him look like he's wearing a bad and stiff wig. still hot tho. also on the hair note: please stop giving eloise bangs. please.
-people on reddit were near to rioting when they learned Kanthony was only in the first ep due to leaks. i was bummed but ultimately don't mind it. did we deserve to see more of them thanks to how badly s2 was handled?? absolutely. but if it's only sex scenes bc they're now trying for babies then i'm good for now. also glad that edwina and mary don't come back bc ngl they pissed me tf off in s2 thanks to how badly they were written. plus like i said, this season has FAR too many subplots to keep them in. the writers really should have trimmed things down. violet meeting Lady D's brother was also not necessary imo.
-i went from loathing cressida to actively sympathizing and rooting for her to snatch up debling in the latter half. well done, writers.
-all the featherington scenes were gold. pru and phillipa are incredible when in scenes together and i'm so glad we got more of that. albion finch is a treasure, too. i really think they should have spent more time on penelope and her mother's relationship bc it's a big part of the book with how portia assigned pen to be her caretaker for when she got old and that being pen's burden/reason to want to bug out and marry rather than stay with her abusive mother, not her sisters' heirs taking charge of the house. they leaned too much into the comedy with the featheringtons and forgot to remind us why penelope is so miserable at home too--the problem stems from her mother, too, not only her sisters. we got two tiny clips of that and that was it. not enough to really establish that. the featheringtons are funny yes but they are not good people (sans Pen). Portia is neglectful and rude and dismissive toward Pen and there is not enough of that so far.
-i haven't read fran's book yet so had no idea what to expect and thought i'd be bored. she is adorable and i'm rooting for her. i like john better than the other guy. but i'm not that invested in her plot. i have no true emotional attachment to her. she needed her own season or to be pushed back to s4.
-still don't like eloise but i'm warming to her. a third season straight of her being condescending to almost everyone outside of her family/friends does nothing to endear her to me. she still blames Whistledown for "ruining" her when she ruined herself by ignoring everyone's warnings and running around town doing socially unacceptable things. she still has a right to be upset with Whistledown/Pen but she needs to take accountability for her own shit. but her understanding and patience with cressida was really surprising and i liked that a lot so far. i can see why people are shipping them now!
-HOW HAVE PENELOPE AND COLIN NOT EVEN DANCED ONCE YET WHAT THE FUCK jk i'm sure we'll obvs get that in part 2 but i'm so accustomed to them having a dance in one of the first few episodes that this truly threw me.
-colin's wet dream. loved it. ngl i was fully expecting a masturbation scene in his bed and not only bc i wrote one into my fic lmao
-i fucking called it from the start that the first kiss would be in the featherington garden based off that screengrab. everything about it screamed romeo+juliet. that was my favorite scene so far it was so beautifully shot and the way he goes for the lightest kiss at first and then hesitates and then GOES BACK FOR MORE???? when he realizes he's super into it???? i collapsed. i fucking squee'd like it was 2003.
-i've been complaining on reddit that the makeup in the promos was fucking awful and way too heavy. it comes across much lighter in the final product/show and i'm so relieved because i was truly worried about that. nicola is a stunning stunning woman and i can't help but admire her every time she is on screen and the awful makeup they put on her for those promos were overtaking her face.
-two major changes i truly appreciate (bc i'm normally very critical about shondaland's writing)
1: the journal scene. i loved that colin had pen hide in his study. i really wanted them to get caught there. i love that the journal fight wasn't as huge as it was in the book because the book made it go on for too long and colin was unreasonably mad about it. i'm so glad it was a minor thing here and that they still showed that colin was really pleased when pen praised his writing and he said he'd consider letting her read more and left it at that.
2: the carriage proposal. my biggest issue with the book bc colin was borderline abusive when he pulled her out of the carriage and made her fall. hated that so i'm glad here he was pleased and still mischievous and held out his hand for her and proposed and wasn't rude and impatient like he was in the book. also the carriage scene was hot as hell and i did not fucking expect colin to fucking finger her right then and there with the goddamned WINDOWS OPEN. tbh i was expecting boob action like in the book but that was a surprising change.
-pacing. too many storylines makes for a too-quickly paced episode. i feel like we were catapulted into everything and my head was spinning. this is a show that, because it insists on such a large fucking cast, would immensely benefit from a 12 or even 20 episode run rather than eight. but we know netflix is a cheap bitch so that will never happen and shows this dense suffer for it.
-music. i do not care about covers. i just don't. it makes no difference to me who is added to the soundtrack or the easter egg hunt of finding which song was used in which scene. the original scores made for the show are beautiful on their own and don't distract like the covers do and that's all i'll say.
-already seeing reviews online from people complaining polin have no chemistry??? idk what show they're watching but it ain't this one. this has been a slow slow buildup and if you can't feel their chemistry then idk what to tell you bc it is there. (and this is gonna be a hot take and unpopular opinion but personally out of all the main couples so far i found daphne and simon's chemistry to feel really forced and kind of cringey so take my opinion as you will but pen and colin have LEAGUES more chemistry as friends to lovers here)
BUT: one could also blame this on the awful pacing of these first four episodes so far. it really would have been nice to have more filler time of col and pen doing the flirting lessons since that was cut too short too soon.
phew--.
i will most definitely have more to say later on but these are my immediate thoughts and i had to get them all down . if you got this far down then bless you and thanks for listening and lmk your thoughts! i'm dying to talk about this.

I'm sorry but I'm about to treat your ask box like a confessional.
You kind of deserve it, though, because due to your Sherlock rewatch posts I've been forced to remember that 1. Sherlock is a show that exists and 2. that I wrote Sherlock fanfic when I was 13... about SHERLOCK and MOLLY.
In my defence, I was a deeply deeply deeply repressed bisexual who hadn't realized it yet - so all of the obvious and insane gay stuff between Sherlock and John just completely sailed over my head. Also propaganda worked really well on me as a child - so basically I was the ideal viewer for Moftiss lol. There'd be scenes where people mistook Sherlock and John for a couple and I'd go 'huh that's kind of strange that keeps happening' but then it would be played off as a joke and I'd go 'oh yes of course, silly me! Gay people only exist as the punchline! Sherlock and John would NEVER be interested in each other that way. I can't believe anyone would ever think that haha.'
Flash forward to 2017. I'm 17 years old. I've kissed other women by now and have had my brain chemistry rewritten by copious amounts of slash fanfiction. Still young, but wiser to the ways of the world than I once was. The last time I watched Sherlock, I had been 14 years old. Sherlock season 4 airs. I watch it with my mom. It's so bad my brain immediately initiates a trauma response and wipes all memory of Sherlock away. This continues for years. The only times I remember Sherlock exists is whenever I joyfully watch hbomerguy's Sherlock Is Garbage video while I'm knitting or painting or something. Also whenever I have to type in a password for an account I made when I was 13 - because my go-to password was 'SHERLOCKED' back then, unfortunately.
Flash forward to now. I'm 24 years old. And I start seeing your posts about Sherlock. Like a sleeper agent, it awakens something in me. Yesterday, I spent a perfectly good Saturday - one I could have spent doing literally anything else - reading Johnlock fanfiction. I am suddenly re experiencing the show through new eyes, seeing all the queerbait I never did before. Getting hate-crimed on the daily. I'm thinking about Sherlock at work, at my adult fucking job. I'm watching scenes from the show on youtube in my office, quickly and guiltily clicking away whenever a coworker comes to chat. I am considering doing my own rewatch. I am realizing for the first time that John and Sherlock were literally in love. It's the only lens through which you can view the show and still have it be somewhat enjoyable. They literally put Mary in a wedding dress shooting Sherlock in his mind palace on TV. I feel like I'm having a religious experience, I feel like I'm insane, I feel like I'm 13 again. This is all vaguely November 5th-ish for me lol.
Anyway. I just thought you should know the impact your rewatch is having on the population. Sorry for the novel in your inbox. I've been desperately trying to find my old Sherlock x Molly fanfic to read for the lols but I think I deleted it off ffnet. I am both having the time of my life while also desperately hoping I forget Sherlock ever existed again soon. So, basically - thank you/curse you for this.
This is perhaps the best ask I’ve ever received?? I converted a sherlolly shipper in the year 2023? Listen I’d never wish a season 4 rewatch on anyone but I would highly recommend watching s1-2 and the wedding episode for a truly out of body experience. I felt more strongly about this show/ship than any other in my life and it was STILL worse than I remembered

You know, I was surprised by the amount of people asking for s4. I understand, it's your favourite show. Mine, too. I'll be devastated if we never see Phil as Jamie again (he's my fav character, can't do anything about it). I'll miss him very very much.
However,
1. I was amazed by the amount of things they got wrong but general audience saying that the finale was perfect and asking for more. We must be watching a very different show.
2. After that AMA with Brendan, I simply don't trust the writers to continue this. In my mind it's a bit of a relief that we're probably not getting more because of the possibility of them ruining it even further.
Sure, one of my fav episodes (Sunflowers, 3x06) was written by Jason S. and Joe Kelly. Brendan was probably involved in some way, but not enough to give him credit for writing and directing it.
International break, 3x10, was written by Jane Becker. There are moments that I dislike, but the entire Uncle day? Roy & Jamie being besties? Roy finding the right words after he sees Jamie giving a nod to Sam that couldn't represent his team? Chef's kiss. I still think the way they handled Roy x Keeley was awful, but still. It was, more or less, a nice episode in my opinion.
Mom city, 3x11, was written by both Jason and Brendan & I absolutely LOVE it for most part (especially if we ignore the entire 'forgive him' thing with Jamie's dad). Jamie-centric episode that I'll always cherish & it's a shame we didn't have more of those. Give Phil all the awards. Love love LOOOVEEE IIITTT. Even better, give Jamie his own spin-off and invite Phil back as Jamie. (But then again, the fear of them bringing James back into Jamie's life and showing it as a good thing... The fear is Real.)
However, how could all Jason, Joe, and Brendan together write and release 3x12 as is is beyond me. How could they give us all those parallels, all that build up, only for it to ruin it in the finale? Jamie and his dad, Beard and Jane, the weird triangle thing that before this was mostly presented as ot3 but suddenly turned in the dumbest possible '2 people are chasing another same one' and Roy & Jamie both being OOC as HELL. Even ot3 aside, what was that bar talk? Jamie would never. Then at Keeley's house and Roy that's 'been working his ass off for the past year' but actually regressed to the point of BEFORE we see him in s1. He was presented as mentally mature in s1. I understand that he's jealous and insecure, but getting back to throwing punches at your best friend trying to convince himself/believing that after one night stand (that was VERY poorly addressed in 3x10 and 3x11 in my opinion) you're getting back together with your ex when she's been turning you down again and again? After that misogynistic comment about "But she's a woman, so you never know." WHO wrote that and why? Who allowed this to appear in the actual episode? And don't give me the "He's only human" treatment, he was always human but he never treated Keeley that shitty. He was better than that from the beginning. Or is it just me who wanted him to be better? Plus, Roy attacking Jamie after KNOWING what Jamie went through and how awful it is for him.
Before TL there was a show that I loved very much, but it disappointed me to the point that I started hating it, dropped it before the last season aired, and blacklisted it everywhere. I won't name it, but the writers were absolutely awful and treated the fans and the main gay ship like clowns. Typical Cis White Guys behavior towards their own characters and writing them as OOC as possible. I was very afraid this might happen to TL but was hoping that it won't. After 3x12? You guys. All my trust into their writing and believing in knowing what they're doing completely disappeared.
I am gutted bc of how much this show means to me and how it helped me through the darkest time in my life, but also... Are we sure we want more? Are we sure we trust them to continue this with these characters? I can kinda imagine the female football team, but to continue with all of our favs?
Mmm, I'm not sure about that, guys. Are you?

s1 episode 8 thoughts
this was a very stressful episode and it taught me a lot. for instance i Do Not Like Body Horror! and now i know that about myself.
the first thing i wrote in my episode notes was during a closeup of scully and i wrote as follows: "good lord she is so pretty. like so pretty. like it's really not fair" and i stand by this assessment.
the next thing i wrote was simply "big ass coats". this is because they were wearing big ass coats and i thought it was adorable.
when scully took a picture with the big camera she announced that there would be a flash. this is because she is, once again, keeping an eye out for those who need accommodations and would be effected by a camera's flash, which adds proof to my theory that she is purposefully mindful of accessibility needs. may be considered a basic thing but she was photographing dead bodies in an arctic compound so good to know she shall not be distracted from her mission of being based!
after being attacked by a dog, i wonder if mulder has become a cat guy. was he ever a dog guy? he seems like a cat guy tbh. i wonder if this further solidified his viewpoint. discuss with the person sitting next to you which pet each member of our duo prefers.
scully, however, very much gave me dog person energy, and not just because she masterfully examined that dog, it was a theory i already had cooking. however at this point the parasite in the dog was moving and i had to look away because it was disgusting.
the sounds of the two of them arguing in the distance in an arctic base. well. let's just say i found it very empire strikes back coded!
then when they started screaming at each other and pointing guns i was suuuuuper stressed. she literally said if he is infected with a murderous alien then it's NOT HIS FAULT???? don't be mean to him???
also. how many times are these guys gonna have to take their clothes off to inspect each other for aliens. does it stop being erotic after a certain point?
the low poly worms in the jar brought me such happiness. i know they were Evil Worms imprisoned in their jars for their wormy crimes but a low poly creature just makes me laugh every time! they will be doing Very Serious Business and then the worst CGI u have ever seen will cross the screen and take you out of the moment but this is entirely a part of the series's charm imo.
when scully was petting the dog i saw a glimpse into a future in which she has a Big Ol' Dog and it was a good one.
Overall the episode was really well done and stressful and well written and i can objectively say it was one of the best so far BUT my aversion to body horror means i will probably not rewatch it anytime soon (and i know it was tame! but it was still yucky!)
and the scenes in which scully and mulder screamed at each other will stick with me for a long time. i look forward to being at a point in which i can look at other blogs freely without needing to be wary of spoilers so i can reblog the hell out of that gifset.

Talking to Craig McCracken
If you had a chance to talk to Craig McCracken, what would you say to him that not only complements him on the work he’s done in the past 30+ years, but also reassures him that there’s still interest in the plans he made for S3?
As someone who grew up watching Cartoon Network in the ‘90s, I would tell him…
“Hi, Craig-o, pleased to meet you! I’ve known your work since the early-mid nineties. I believe you were involved in 2 Stupid Dogs and Dexter’s Laboratory. It must have been a real treat getting to know some history behind Hanna-Barbera. I know it was for me. When I first saw a piece of your own work, it was on the side of a box of Fruity Pebbles promoting World Premiere Toons - one of the characters was Bubbles of the PPG. I gotta say, you’ve been one of my inspirations growing up.”
When it gets to the point where I talk about WOY, I would say this to him…
“I remember when I got into Wander Over Yonder. When I first saw your early sketches of him, I thought of Cantus the Minstrel from Fraggle Rock. And what can I say? I’m a sucker for anything related to Muppets. How about Jack McBrayer? He’s the perfect choice for the character’s voice! WOY marks the first time I got to hear Jack sing. It’s the show that provided the springboard for shows Disney apparently loves best, specifically Star vs. the Forces of Evil and Big City Greens - those shows wouldn’t have been picked up if it wasn’t for Daron Nefcy and the Houghton Bros.’ involvement in the first season. It’s also the first show where Andy Bean provided music for a TV series and where people like Noël Wells got to try their hand at voice acting. The show has made a lot more history than you can possibly imagine, so please don’t take it too lightly.”
Now comes the part where I talk about the elephant in the room, or rather, the ape in the space capsule…
“To be honest, I really looked forward to watching episodes of the show during its run. When I looked at your announcement about the premature cancellation and the plans you’d made for that third and final season, I was totally perplexed. Disney let Fish Hooks go on for three seasons regardless of content - was that because no one turned deaf ears or blind eyes to it? I always assumed they’d treat WOY the same way they treated FH.”
“Somehow it just doesn’t feel right to let your show bite the dust just because the “higher up bosses of bosses of bosses” didn’t see the need to make more, especially not after you made most fans aware of the existence of the plans for S3 and led them to believe it was guaranteed to be amazing. Why do you think I haven’t given up on WOY? And why else would I have Kid encourage viewers to watch the show (Kid Cosmic was great, by the way, one that definitely ended in victory)? I cannot think of any other show that was canceled one week before S2’s premiere, seven months after the S1 finale, five months after writing on S2 wrapped up, five months after your pitch for S3. You, Craig, are one of the most experienced cartoonists in the business and you don’t deserve to be treated like this.”
“To let you know just how determined I am to right this wrong, I worked four months on an Illustrator piece featuring over 140 individuals, built a LEGO Star Nomad (when I showed it to Dave Thomas (@owner-of-wendys), he said, “Dude… that Star Nomad is incredible. Well done!”), and wrote a pre-S3 shorts idea where Andy the Watchdog interviews refugees on the ex-secret planet. Heck, I even had to figure out what Star Force Enforcement Force look like and how the plot of S3 might play out.”
“@peepsqueak started the SaveWOY campaign, and I’m seeing to it that it shan’t be in vain. I know you’re busy with your other projects, but there is still a show waiting to be completed on your own terms. Until the time comes, keep making people smile! Darkest times call for sunniest of smiles!”

fic etc (new version!)
[update March 21, 2024]
These days I'm writing fic for Our Flag Means Death.
Longfic
I have three finished long pieces, in order of connectedness to canon:
Hungry for love, ready to drown (T, 33K) - a Stede POV retelling of season one starting with episode four, lots of missing scenes (so much with clothing but also wound care! dream sequence!). My love letter to canon; I watched those episodes so many times in little bursts to really absorb the writing and acting, and I'm very proud of the results. Goes well with S2 prep, if I may say so. Will probably definitely most likely get a sequel, but it's taking me a while to figure out how to approach it.
the devil's threeway (E, 30K) - Ed POV, starts with a pre-canon encounter with Jack and (non-canonical) Anne Bonney, follows up with a post-S1 meet-up with Anne and (also non-canonical) Mark Read, and then a somewhat unusual reunion with Stede. Includes the fic where Ed would not. Stop. Crying. There is a reasonably likelihood that I will write something similar or equivalent with the canon versions of Anne and Mary, but it's still marinating.
for the benefit of all the broken hearts (E, 62K) - the not RPF but not not RPF that is maybe the best thing I've ever written in any medium for any reason: a fix-it fic for the gorgeous and weird Water Flowing Underground, told from the perspective of the unnamed second wife. My exploration of the aftermath of tragedy, the possibility of repair, and varieties of love. Read the tags, read the author's note, read WFU first (or don't, I'm not the boss of you, and I do know someone who read them out of order and still enjoyed it), but please give it a shot. Posts tagged #carlita coded content are related to this work, sometimes very obliquely. There is also a follow-up fic of missing scenes, end up several worlds away, that still has one chapter remaining (I SWEAR I'm going to finish it), and a short sort of non-linear AU, back on my beat, that explores some alternate endings.
Some favorite shorter pieces
I have begun to long for you, a "mutiny against Izzy succeeds" canon-divergence AU
nice either way, my contribution to the Beard Discourse
Commit to the Bit, modern AU blackbonnet engagement and wedding
Season 2 and post-S2 fic
I spit on your grave - post-S2, Stede and Ed have a serious conversation, starting with how Ed didn't "happen" upon Stede being gut-stabbed, and going some tough places from there
lost and found - post-S2, featuring beach comber Stede and those cake toppers
Through the storm - the crew of the Revenge between episodes 2 and 3. slow and creepy!
in case I never make it through to where you are - bad ending AU set at the end of 3. MIND THE TAGS, it's a rough one.
Other stuff
Occasionally I post OFMD fic recommendations, which started as a weekly thing but, you know. They are still posted in sets of five on Fridays, when I do them, and tagged #five fic friday. (There's no particular system to my listings, just stuff I like that's not PWP.)
Not fic: I am doing a little project where I make/recreate recipes that I have written down but haven't made in a long time (or ever) - that can be found under the tag #food as play. Includes my rewrite of the 40 Orange Cake Recipe!
I have also written a lot of fic for The Adventure Zone, my favorite being The Reckoning Arrives, a 77k fic in which Lucretia, Taako, Merle, and Carey go looking for Kalen.
I wrote quite a bit of my TAZ fic with my late spouse Ryn (@taakovapes). Ryn died in September 2021; here's the post I wrote the week they died. I often post/tag about them and death and grief. (See tags #not all exits are made equal, #[grief dab], and #posts I wish I could send to Ryn in particular.)

OTH Rewatch Review 3x07
IIIIIII DON'T WANNA BE ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT I'VE BEEN TRYNA BE LATELYYYYYYYYY
Jesus Christ
So, like, here's the thing about this fucking Inception dream sequence. What is happening? Is Nathan dreaming about Haley making out with Brooke after waking up from a nightmare about Lucas and Chris in bed together after Lucas woke up from dreaming about being in bed with Brooke? Because it's a dream within within a dream. I don't know what your subconscious is like Nathan.
Nathan's grin. I mean, technically you've slept with both of them. AND HALEY'S SISTER.
"What is she doing talking to that troll?" "By troll do you mean Peyton?" Oh, Haley. How I love you sometimes.
Because Peyton fucking SUCKS.
"I'm over possessive-best-friends-with-weird-lesbian energy. And Haley!" That was actually a good delivery but if anyone has the lesbian energy here, it's Brooke and Rachel.
"Well, at least somebody wanted me." Oh, preteen Zal was SO frustrated with this ENTIRE storyline.
"HALEY, YOUR BOYFRIENDS ARE HERE." lol.
"You look so..." "Overdressed." Good delivery. But also Haley, my girl, the SUN is out, why are you wearing a little black dress?
I mean "little black dress" this is still OTH.
They really felt uncomfortable in the clothes they had to wear??
This is so dumb, she's clearly going out with Nathan and Haley too, Lucas.
YOU ALL HAVE CELL PHONES. CALL HER.
Ugh, Skills.
"I've been on kinky dates before..." with who? I guess s1 Nathan would've done something weird.
Remember how s1 Nathan was like a legit emotionally, verbally abusive villain?
"Let's spring [the senior in the nursing home]! It's just a couple of hours, what harm could it do?" If this was a dark comedy, he'd die.
Chris tipping a random woman on the beach and slapping her ass is just ... ugh. She should've slapped him. Alas, Mark Schwahn.
Haley having a quiet but profound breakdown. Brooke, "It's OK. Let's just go to the mall." And she is being helpful and it is very sweet but that's also hilarious. Uhhh, sorry that your wedding spot is being destroyed, let's just go to the mall instead. You know? Nothing profoundly sad happens at the mall.
"I can't believe she's doing this." IT WAS A GROUP DATE, LUCAS.
"This guy has caused a lot of trouble, Brooke knows that." Lucas, the people that he caused trouble between WERE WITH HER GETTING INTO THE CAR. YOU SAW THEM.
Tumblr media
I swear to god Lucas, I would hit you. SHUT UP.
24. Braley are such better friends than Breyton.
25. I REALLY wish we got more Nathan and Brooke scenes because they had a really fun chemistry together and I liked that they were both being courted by Haley and Lucas and they could both understand where the other was coming from
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
26. Haley's laugh at Chris saying "Maybe he's afraid of me" is hilarious because she stops and continues. But Chris shutting her up with "Maybe he doesn't care anymore" was mean but well-played.
27. It's funny how Chris Keller is a better Damon than Damon. Because he's not a good actor but he doesn't overplay it.
28. Aww, jealous Nathan
Tumblr media
29. James Lafferty's shoulders are quite broad this episode.
30. Nathan is vulnerable and you were practically giving the enemy a LAP DANCE. I mean she wasn't Brooke but the exaggeration is very Brooke and also very high school. I remember in high school we were at a school dance and this girl's boyfriend was getting jumped outside while she was dancing with another guy and all of us girls were like WHAT THE FUCK??? [INSERT NAME] IS GETTING JUMPED AND YOU WERE BASICALLY HAVING SEX ON THE DANCE FLOOR! What did we expect her to do? Get jumped with him?? Teenagers.
31. "I didn't do anything!" "Except for kiss Chris and run away with him?" I mean, she's got a point Haley. "What about you messing with Lucas and hiding all those letters you wrote to him under your bed?" I mean, she's got a point Brooke.
32. "I know this is where we made love in the rain." I mean, it wasn't ON the balcony though. It should've been.
33. "I still feel our past just like you do" well especially considering that you were the one who was left.
34. Rachel calling Lucas gay because he's CLEARLY into Brooke and is like please stop getting naked around me because I LOVE BROOKE is hilarious because what?
35. Chris also getting Brooke more and more drunk so they can have sex is incredibly gross.
36. "All of the celebrity..." she had ONE original song and was doing covers and opening for actual celebrities? WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT HERE?
37. We could also talk about the fact that Nathan was the one who encouraged her to sing in front of people etc. etc. and she wouldn't have been a "star" without him in her life at all.
38. Mouth's reveal that Mel is his grandfather is ... OK? I know this is supposed to push Peyton to Ellie but meh.
39. "SHE NOTEBOOKED YOU?" "I totally Notebooked him" lmao these references.
40. Nathan keeping a flower from the beach is Lucas keeping a feather from Brooke's wings.
41. *SIGH* Brooke and Chris. What, it takes like two more episodes for them to be together?
42. I also absolutely do not believe that Brooke wouldn't have kicked Chris out of the house right after sleeping with him. She'd be disgusted.

OFMD S2 Speculation
I put together a little list of things I think are coming in S2 on twitter, and I’m stashing it here too in case the bird snuffs it.
As S1 was Stede going through his best then worst and figuring things out, S2 is going to be Ed's story
Hornigold. Why else have Jack mention him, especially when so much of Ed's past is shaped by Hornigold and his father.  I suspect he's the villain for S3, but I like the idea of him being there through S2 like the shark in Jaws, finally appearing at the end to ruin everything
Which leads me into the belief we're getting 3 season. S1 is A New Hope. S2 is going to be Empire Strikes Back, with one captured and/or forcibly separated with an “I love you”/“I know” vibe. S3 is going to be their Return of the Jedi :D (And in this story Izzy gets to be Lando - sold Stede out, saves him (hm. If I follow this train of thought that makes Stede the Leia. Stede ending up in a metal bikini... oh dear))
Izzy is 100% getting a tasty arc, especially since he’s dealt with Blackbeard before but has never been around Kraken!Ed. I also love the idea of him, against his better judgement, acknowledging Stede's bonkers genius. Izzy respects people who *earn* their way instead of buying a way in. I think he's going to see Stede in a whole new light. Stede&Iz brotrip in S3!
This probably won't be until S3 if we get it, but Stede's obsession with fake heads is how they finally get away: Blackbeard's death famously involved his head hanging from the mast of his ship. What if Ed snipped his hair, kept the clippings to made a fake head and escape? (“Our old lives will be gone. Dead” - one down, one to go)
I suspect Ivan is toast. Jim, when motivated by very vengeance, will take it out on the people they know to be guilty. Ivan was one of the two people who was involved in the marooning and is the one who is in the room with the feral assassin with no idea of their full skillset
Pretty sure that Jackie is married to all of the Siete Gallos and diverted Jim from killing more hubs because she's a cunning old fox who knows how the game works. Jackie's proved she knows how Jim ticks and she played on that like a virtuoso in their last confrontation.
Ed isn't the only one flipping the bird to the king. Izzy sold out too, in order to save Ed, but he seems to have forgotten this now that he's a pirate again. I'd like to see him being very surprised when that comes back around to bite him.
I am VERY suspiciously watching the half-orange. I feel like it's very important that Alma kept a bit and Stede kept a bit and I wrote a whole fic that involved it. I am suspicious bastard by nature :D
This is less speculation and more desire: I want Ed and Stede to end up chained together before they've had a chance to make-up. I want them to have to escape while bitching and bickering and fighting all the way. Inspired by the Obi-Wan, Anakin & Dooku episode of Clone Wars
I am very excited. Can you tell?

Hello, Sailing Ships!! <33
Do you think you'll write a fic about Invincible some day? And if yes, what are some things you could already imagine writing about? I LOVE your rambles btw!!! I don't know why but it's incredibly interesting to me every time somebody writes about their opinions. Oh, and when they go off on tangents. Tangents, my beloved!!
HI!!! Teehee I'm loving this nickname ♡♡♡ And YEAH! I already have actually, I just have never mentioned them on here I think,,, or updated them in a hot min actually (ノ_<、). AND I WILL PROMISE. (」><)」
The first one is my body's in backwards !! I didn't see any time travel fics in the fandom yet so I had to write one! The fic follows the bruised and bloody Mark, nearly beaten him to death in s1, somehow traveling back to the very first episode! He is constantly stressed, incredibly traumatized, and trying his very best. I love this fic a lot, the descriptions in the first chapter are stuff I'm still proud of. Literally everyone around him is so incredibly concerned, heh, I love writing it. If chapter 5 could give me a break and be easy to write that'd be great.
Then, there's repine and retrain !! It follows that evil! Mark we saw, who got trapped by that universe's GDA! With the world still wrecked by monsters and villains, Cecilia basically drags Mark kicking and screaming into obeying her, so he go fight stuff without risking him trying alien colonization part 2. Heavy angst, and definitely hurt no comfort. This should actually update soon! :DD kudos to whoever commented recently, I forgot this existed.
If I were to write another, though, I'd write a symbiote!Mark fic, because I saw fanart for the absolutely epic idea, and actually wrote a draft I never managed to finish. With some delightful s2 part B scenes to consider, I'd have to overhaul a decent chunk to make it work, if I ever finish it one day. Who knows? ┐( ̄ヮ ̄)┌
That, or a time travel fic with a focus on way more comedic element than the unyielding heavy, heavy angst of my current one. Like, the image of like four year old Mark Grayson staring daggers at his father and shoveling "Empathy for Dummies" at him makes me cackle.
Or, a time loop fic with a similar comedy-ish angle, but still a bit angsty. So there's Mark in s1 conveniently appearing whenever Nolan tries to kill off the Guardians of the Globe. And also shoving "Empathy for Dummies" at him. Subtly dragging your alien father into processing the weight of his actions and fighting against the colonizing regime. Mark's stronger, faster, and laser focused on dragging his Dad into be better, but he keeps mentioning stuff that hasn't happened yet, which confuses people around him, and drives Cecil up the fucking wall. He's a contradiction of incredible efficiency, yet stuck in his head a lot, fucks up the date constantly, skips school, legit has troubling remembering what happened when and what hasn't happened yet. He'll mention something to you and looked surprised when you remember it (since he's been through so many loops.) Basically Outsider POV of a time loop, when the person's been through it like 28392th times already.
Gosh, now I wanna write this so bad. (/// ̄ ̄///) I'm so glad you like tangents,, as you can see I am quite the yapper if given the chance. (//▽//)

I watched The Star Beast on Sunday. It has been the first time I have watched Doctor Who in about... a decade? (I watched a Twelve and Clara ep and was just so fucking depressed at the end of it I just stopped. I have seen bits and pieces of Thirteen's run and is there a supercut of her and Dhawan!Master? Please tell me there is.)
And it is strange coming back to a thing you loved and also were completely fucked-up by. Even though he wears the same face, Fourteen is not Ten. Somebody here was like "He displays more genuine emotion in this one episode than he did in Ten's entire run."
The past few years of reboots, sequels, and adaptations involve a lot of creators revisiting their past work (Good Omens, Sandman are the ones that I have watched), and it's been interesting seeing what's changed and what hasn't. (Davies continues this trend, coming back to Doctor Who for the 60th anniversary specials and Fifteen's ongoing run.) It feels like most of the male characters are softer, a little less jerky. I don't know if it's because the adapters/writers are older, or if it feels like what needs to happen.
I can't think of any companion who we have kept revisiting as much as Donna. It's interesting how Fourteen refers to her as his "best friend". (And that may be the case, but if my best friend gave me amnesia instead of letting me die with my faculties intact I would have Fucking Words with them if I ever regained my memory*.) And for someone who can jump through space and time, I find it curious that the Doctor tends not to revisit old friends very often. Except for this one.
I have been thinking about do-overs, and how they've been handled in things I've watched lately. (S2 of Our Flag Means Death is, in many ways, a chance to right missteps from S1 for a lot of characters.) And narratively, I think it's necessary for the Doctor to go back and make amends for a truly awful thing he did, even if his actions did lead to the plot device that ultimately saves London**. (There is a post here that I can't speak to because I haven't seen this episode about why it makes sense for the Doctor to revisit all of this and make things right.)
At this point, I can't say much about how this is going to play out because we've barely gotten into setup for the next two specials. I hope it goes the way I want, because it is a thing that has been on my mind for fifteen years. Donna has always deserved better, but I think we do too.
--
* One of the earliest Doctor Who fics I ever wrote is the TARDIS dealing with trauma from the Saxon years and basically getting triggered by what happened to Donna. My opinion about this has always been consistent, at least.
** To be clear, Rose is not just a plot device. I love her to bits and I would rend the world to pieces for her, same as her mother. I'm extremely glad this episode is going to piss off the TERFs and GCs, because condoned bigotry does not belong in any media, but especially science fiction. The execution was a little *wigglehand*, but he got the spirit at least.

Hi! I agree with pretty much everything you wrote about in the post for Rookie-ask game. Would you be interested in expanding on your thoughts? I know you said you wanted to keep it brief to avoid hate, but I think it would be great to get more diverse opinions in this fandom and I think you would have support for starting a discussion.
Lucy was my favorite character from the start and I am disappointed with her character growth in season 5 (it felt non-existent). As well as how she is viewed by many in this fandom as either a flawless badass who can do no wrong (and in extension no need for character growth) or as not confident, desperate for validation and with no self-awareness. There are definitely people who have a more nuanced view too and I really appreciated their perspective . But for example a majority of fics are written from Tim´s perspective and like you say it feels like in a lot of them Lucy is written as very passive. There is definitely very much an emphasis on Tim´s perspective in both the show, fics and here on tumblr. I am very glad he is explored as a nuanced character, but I wish Lucy would also get that.
I would be really interested in hearing your thoughts, but I would also completely understand if you do not feel like posting them.
Hope you have a nice day :)
If anyone knows me, they know I love to talk. My thoughts and tangents are scattered far and wide, incoherent and half-finished ramblings all over the place. So, I'll do my best, because... Damn it, you're not wrong. I think every fandom should host a diversity of feelings, thoughts, and passionate (but polite) discourse.
I'm not sure *exactly* which thoughts you want me to expand on (and I'm very curious about what falls outside of the "pretty much everything" you agree with), but I'll build on what you mention in your ask - Lucy is also my favourite character and she was followed closely by Nyla when she came on the scene in S2. I probably hew closer to the "flawless badass who can do no wrong" read of Lucy than I'd like, but I think there are canonical things for her to work on: she can be impulsive (confronting Tim outside of Isabel's home, adopting Kojo, giving Tamara her car), she has a petty streak (getting revenge on Tim, asking out the paramedic after Emmett dumps her), she has a tendency toward self-preservation that can make her selfish (asking about sacrificing the fugitive gang member, asking Nolan to lie to cover up their affair), and she is fueled by righteous anger that can lead her to do dumb things (threatening the dickhead who kicked sand at his dog, nearly threatening Stanton, yelling at Chris when she first met him).
A lot of anger about S4 after the cut.
In S4 and S5 (but especially S4, and actually, even a little in S3), Lucy displays a lot of immaturity that I don't think was as apparent in S1 or S2 where she typically displays better judgement than Jackson and a more realistic perspective than Nolan. It was frustrating to watch a character that seemed to know herself fairly well and was so open to confrontation and growth become a character who was jealous of a rookie and seemed to bounce back and forth emotionally in all of her relationships (romantic and otherwise) until Tim pointed it out and provoked her into action. For someone whose superpower is empathy (and oh gag at the idea that all cops have a superpower), she displayed a startling lack of self-awareness in S4 and S5 and I just... I don't know. The entire show changed *a lot* in S4 in ways that were monumentally disappointing for me, but none so much as the way the women on the show suffered in terms of character development.
I could honestly talk about this for hours, use thousands of words to proselytize at length, but S4 was a season that I so deeply dislike that I don't think I've purposely rewatched a single episode. Maybe I've missed nuances or missed plot points that, on rewatch, would've played better, but I don't think so. I think I (and many friends) have a fundamentally different perspective on the show as a direct consequence of S4 and part of it is the perceived character assassination (across the board, mind you, but especially) of the women on the show.
For context, I would like to point out that we spent two episodes with Emmett (go look at the epic beautiful gifset by @hotshotchen but we spent, by contrast, 13 episodes with Chris. In that time, we see Lucy meet and engage willingly and flirtatiously with Emmett, him express interest without any subterfuge or third party prodding and them actually having fun (in bed the morning after, but whatever!) together, him messing up and apologizing, and Lucy accepting it and moving forward with him... With Chris, Tim sets them up, their differences are expounded upon with Lucy consistently suggesting in words and actions that she's not that into him, Chris messing up repeatedly and there being no closure around it, and then Tim breaking them up. We got more character growth and better storytelling in two episodes of Emmett than we did in 13 episodes of Chris. While Tim was relevant to Lucy and Emmett's relationship, their relationship was not about him nor was he directly involved. It was about Lucy. What was her relationship with Chris about? Yeah, I don't know either, but somehow I don't think the answer is Lucy.
Ah, sorry, anon, see how I get to rambling? If you have any specific questions... Come at me, I guess? I need direction or I just rant and rave wildly until I fall asleep. My bad.

This contains Good Omens Season 2 Spoilers
It’s been a week since Good Omens S2 aired. I’m still crying. It’s been nestled in my brain. It HURTS. And today I finally figured out why it’s hurting me and why I’m clinging to the ‘theory’ I’ve developed as a coping mechanism.
First things first: I trust Neil Gaiman implicitly. He is an absolute MASTER storyteller and I know he’ll see us through to the most beautiful ending our demon, angel and the world deserve. Good Omens is the only show/story I have no worries about that I won’t love every second of it.
Anyway. My hurting & crying is Aziraphale’s reaction to Crowley’s kiss. There was no joy, no reciprocity, no softening. He doesn’t lovingly return the kiss like I want. He stands there, at best just a rigid pole, at worst he appears to be fighting it.
And that struck a personal chord. But from Crowley’s POV, and in a long-standing relationship. I live with a rigid pole that I’ve tied my life to. So I’ve just completely shoehorned my obvious trauma in there and taken it on myself. And that hurts and it’s raw and it’s kind of anguish-inducing at times.
So of course, I did what any person with trauma does and developed a coping mechanism: A Theory.
It’s not a new one, I’m not clever. Anyway, here it is:
Aziraphale is quite obviously flustered as when telling Crowley his ‘great news’, with his hands flying everywhere and eyes constantly darting outside. Crowley obviously picks up on this, after all, he told him in episode one that he knows what’s up from his tone of voice. I don’t think this was his “I’m going to pop” tone.
When Crowley kisses him, the miracle sound is heard. He also very subtly nods his head during the kiss and there appears to be an ‘aura’ as well.
I think Crowley stops time (making me ask again, just who WAS he before he fell sauntered vaguely downwards to be that powerful) and they manage to speak out of the Metatron’s view & hearing. (Perhaps even Muriel is involved?)
Whilst out of time, they then swap appearances, just like at the end of S1. …After all, Neil says S2 is a bridge between S1 & 3…
Then they come back into time, (?Aziraphale’s hand relaxes on Crowley’s back?) and we finish with them being on opposite sides to their usual ones, sudden mention of a nightingale after being told there wouldn’t be one and uncharacteristic Bentley music. Oh, and I will never forget that creepy smirk in the lift. Eek.
I’ve got other thoughts about half the street not being normal humans, but this is about my trauma response so I’m going to leave it at this.
Mr Gaiman, you’re a genius. You broke my heart in a personal way due to personal trauma but I love this show, this story, this universe that you and Sir Terry created and the entire huge team has brought to life on the screen, and obviously I adore how Michael Sheen & David Tennant have inhabited these characters and brought them to life.
Thank you 🖤
(Edited the morning after I wrote this for a little more clarity and when the rigid pole was no longer near me…which is not a euphemism…sadly)
