Rom and Yuli by Amara Lynn

4 Tips for Success and LGBTQ Community Building
Amara Lynn is a five year consecutive NaNoWriMo winner and a member of the LGBTQ community. Today, they’re going to be sharing 4 tips for success and building your writing community!
1. Have a plan.
If you’re a writer, you’ve probably heard of the phrase “panster”, and you might even be one! If you aren’t a big plotter or planner, that’s okay! You can still have a plan!
My first year, I was also a panster. What I did was make a word document full of the scenes I knew I wanted to include in the story. When I got stuck, all I had to do to was look at that file. I still had plenty of room to play and pants!
Planning doesn’t just go for writing, either! NaNoWriMo can be stressful, even without distractions and other tasks we all have to do day to day. That’s why a little planning in your personal life can go a long way!
This could be anything from catching up your house chores, doing some meal prep or planning, or stocking up on your favorite snacks and writing fuel (coffee for me!). I also take some vacation days. If that’s something you can do, it can be very helpful, and brings me into my next tip, which is…
2. Have a writing buffer.
We all know, no matter how much planning you do, something won’t go your way. One year, my waterbed burst and I had to spend all night cleaning it up!
If you have time and the words are flowing one day, keep on writing! Being ahead can only help! If you’re roped into Thanksgiving dinner prep, or things just aren’t going well for you one day, it doesn’t upend your chances of crossing that 50k mark.
3. Participate in writing sprints!
Sprinting with your friends can add a bit of friendly competition, urgency, and companionship to your writing sessions!
It can be a challenge at first, especially if you’re going for that infamous 1k words in 30 minutes! I’ve only managed that once so don’t feel bad! Remember progress is progress and all words are great! If you manage at least 500 words in 30 minutes, it’s only about one and a half hours to get your words for the day.
4. Find a community.
Finding your writing people can be hard, but it’s one of the best things you can do to help you succeed!
I’ve known about NaNoWriMo for a long time. I would try, but never made it past the first day. It wasn’t until I had a community of writing friends that I won my first NaNo.
Because I felt having a community is important, particularly for LGBTQ+ writers, I started a Twitter writing hashtag called #LGBTQWriMo! Any LGBTQ+ writer is welcome to participate by answering the questions posted each day. There are check in days, line shares, and more!
As a queer, nonbinary person writing queer books, I know how nerve wracking it can be to participate in local events; not everyone may be welcoming of the content you write. That’s why an online community specifically for LGBTQ writers can be so important! It helps to know you’re not alone.
If you're seeking to build up your writing community, I highly recommend online spaces like Twitter for doing so! The LGBTQ writing community has been so welcoming and supportive to me, and I wouldn’t be where I am without them!
Don’t go it alone! Encouragement and enthusiasm others give is essential for success!

robin connolly: a socially awkward generalist zookeeper that suddenly gets the ability to talk to animals. she’s also crushing HARD on lillian
lillian akini: robins coworker and first friend at the zoo! she’s a hobbyist cosplayer and loves all things cute! (her definition of cute is very broad though)
bailey armstrong: the curator of carnivores! they look tough and gruff, but is actually a huge sweetie. she often volunteers at the children’s hospital!
tamara lynn: the curator of primates! despite her small size, she’s a ball of seemingly infinite energy. she’s probably the only person able to keep up with the high energy primates
donna walker: head keeper, she’s robin’s boss and a sort of motherly figure to the keepers. she takes no shit, but is a caring person. she also enjoys lying to kids about how she “lost her leg” (she was actually born with a limb difference, but hey, its an effective way to get them to stop pounding on the glass of the gorilla enclosure)
amara palmer: the ceo of the ivywood zoo! she’s a knowledgable conservationist that genuinely cares about the employees and the animals they care for. she can be a bit of a bleeding heart, and will do anything to make sure animals are well taken care of

Hi! I come from the danmei fandom and wanted to ask you if you pls have some good novels from the west to rec? What I'm looking for is: BL, fantasy & good plot. I'm not looking for political agenda just for a good read where the focus is on the plot and romance. I seriously don't know where to start looking. I tried checking out recs on google but honestly after the danmei books mostly everything looks unappealing to me. I was hoping you could help me out. Thank you in advance!
Ooo, yeah I can come up with a few things.
(All links are Amazon, but of course if you can buy elsewhere it's recommended, especially author sites. But if you buy from these links I get like a few pennies.)
The Magpie Lord (and rest of the series) by K.J. Charles - This is honestly the book that got me into reading modern m/m historical romance before I ever discovered danmei. 19th century England, magic, romance.
The Whyborne and Griffin series by Jordan L. Hawk - An incredibly long series of adventure novels set in a Lovecraftian 19th century America, starring a shy scholar and brash detective who get pulled into supernatural highjinks and romance together. The author's other series might also appeal. I'm a big fan of their Hexworld series which is recommended if you like the ideal of shapeshifters and their destined soulmate partners.
Lord of the White Hell by Ginn Hale - Fantasy European setting in a boys boarding school. Kiram is the first from his religion/ethnicity to attend this prestigious school and has to room with a boy who is supposed to be cursed by hell. Magic, religion, culture clash coming of age, and a fantastic romance. I love this whole world and series so much.
The Archer's Heart by Astrid Amara - Fantasy India setting with a rigid caste system where homosexuality is punished with death. So the romance between a prince and a warrior has very real stakes. Lots of politics and suffering for the characters. Sorta epic political fantasy but with queer romance. Definitely danmei esque.
The Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling - An older series in which a young man is taken as an apprentice to a thief/spy/rogue in a typical European fantasy world. Very interesting political and magical intrigue. The romance between the two main characters doesn't become textual until the second book and definitely is not a main focus or very in your face, most likely because of the age of the books. BUT I love everyone in this bar so so much. And they are explicitly the fantasy equivalent of married in later books, so it's not NOT a thing.
The High King's Golden Tongue by Megan Derr - A young man is trained to be consort to a king his whole life, but the king in question isn't interested in him because he's still mourning his late husband. Fantasy world with normalized queer relationships, slow burn romance development, a very gentle book without a lot of drama. (I haven't read the rest of the series but I think each book is a different couple.)
Okay and then a couple additional recs with special circumstances.
A Taste of Gold and Iron by Alexandra Rowland - I haven't read this one yet because I just haven't had time, but I've read some of their other works and trust that it's good. The author is @ariaste whose MDZS fic you may have read.
The Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard - The reason I haven't read the above yet is because I've been deep in reading this and all the related books/stories in this world. Absolutely I think danmei fans need to read this book. The worldbuilding is fantastic and immense. The political intrigue is more West Wing than Game of Thrones. It's a book about making incremental change from inside a flawed system. And it's a book about two men opening their hearts to one another glacially slowly, with so many barriers in the way, but so much love.
The caveat is that it's not precisely a romance or primarily a romance so it doesn't meet your criteria. It's super long (again for danmei fans) but while these two (an emperor and his secretary) love each other so much, it's not explicitly romantic or sexual? At least not yet. (Next week, sequel next week aaaaaahhhh.) So...it's a weird one to rec. Which is why I've been waiting and putting off writing it's own rec post. But it's a magnificent novel I can't say enough good things about.
So yeah, that's what I've got for now. Thanks for asking, clearly I'm always just waiting for someone to ask me to rec things.

Regarding this story that is following Julia Quinn's hit series, Bridgerton, I would start by saying I read the book first before I watch the Netflix series, thus I apologize if there are some differences with the Netflix version, but I will try to make it as similar as possible.
I would also ask the readers to be kind when criticizing this story as this is my first time to actually publishing my work in the open.
For the story, as you can see there is a time-travel tag. Our reader was sent back to the past with all the knowledge from the future. If you are also confused with Davika's education, I actually based her using Spencer Reid, a character from Criminal Minds.

I watched this and it immediately reminded me of kd performing with Brenda Lee, Loretta Lynn, and Kitty Wells. There's something to be said about a stylish lesbian having an absolute blast and bopping about the stage with a giddy grin because she's doing what she loves. Billy Brown is Penny Lane's out and proud younger cousin. You're Nearer makes me think that there is a Paul McCartney drag show in my future. You Have Been Loved is an underrated gem. I often wonder who these guys' target demographic is. I asked my early-twenties gay male coworker if he liked any of them; he said he'd never heard of them. Alarming! Generational shift? Maybe. I've met too many young lesbians who don't know kd or Indigo Girls or Melissa Etheridge. Still! No offense, but Sam Smith and girl in red can't hold a candle to Ye Olde Homosexuals Of Yore.
The Source Of My Snobbery
My voice teacher (of two months) wanted me to sing Un Moto Di Gioia as a recital piece (before my performance anxiety and commitment-phobia got the better of me). Several performances I looked to as reference points are still coming up on shuffle a year later. My showerhead's ears are bleeding. While rehearsing (before quitting), I kept thinking of Tom Hulce and tried to make my version uhh joyful? Sprightly? A smidge on the ironic side with exaggerated winks at my non-existent audience? Embarrassing. Glad I chickened out before the public humiliation phase. Je Crois Entendre Encore quiets something in my ribcage and leaves me in a fugue state. Hey, have you heard Bach's Ricercar? I checked out this CD from the public library in elementary school and it's still embedded in my neurons.
