what would be the main topics of argument between jean and wymack, do you think? would kevin try to play mediator or just completely ignore them?
ANYTHING REALLY.... but i feel like the most trending topic for them to argue over is exy, because jean's opinion of the foxes never truly improves besides that kevin's addition (and, begrudgingly, andrew and neil, but he'd never say it with all the words) is the only good thing about their lineup. he offers no real suggestions on how to better it but he has an endless well of criticism that makes wymack want to climb up the walls. talking to jean makes him think that coach rhemann is a saint, and kevin even more so
i think kevin does make a point to move closer to wymack at some point in their professional career/post-retirement and jean is not unhappy about this but he's not entirely happy either. they will learn to tolerate each other and they will spend many christmas dinners and new year's eves and birthdays and baby showers together, and maybe along the way as they grow older they will realize that their resentment of each other is more for the sake of old times than any real reason :-)
re: kevin. he absolutely does not play mediator and has to very pointedly stay out of it if he doesn't want either to feel as if he's picked a side. the only person i can see caring to mediate is abby, and jean respects her enough to drop any subject if she asks him to, so it all works out. if they're getting Too into it though kevin is known to fake a headache (or any type of minor injury) to redirect their attention

Peaches and Cowboy
Tumblr media
gibbs x reader
This does take place before Jack Sloane appears in season 15
Peaches. (Y/N) only had to thank one Leroy Jethro Gibbs for that nickname. He insists it’s because she’s so sweet and kind. But, she’s pretty sure it’s because of her perfume. He calls her that only when they’re alone, neither of them want to ruin his reputation.
Her head was down on her desk, with paperwork covering every inch of her desk. Gibbs was growing concerned, because she was looking paler by the hour. Once Tony headed to interrogation, Ziva was checking out a lead, and Tim was getting an update from Abby, he made his way over to her desk. That’s when he smelled her perfume, peach with just a dash of vanilla. “Hey, peaches, you feelin’ okay?” Her head instantly rose from her desk, and she sleepily responded, “Yeah, just a headache the size of Texas. I’ll be alright. Just need to drink more water.” He was still concerned, but ultimately said, “Okay, let me know if you need anything.” “Will do, hun.”
The day went by and by the end of it, she was very excited to go home, make some soup, and crawl into a warm bed. Gibbs had the same idea, but because he was still concerned, he offered to drive her home. She was hesitant at first, saying she didn’t want to be a bother. But he insisted. And she damn near fell asleep during the ride home. She was so out of it, she didn’t even notice that it wasn’t her house. It was Gibbs’ house. Fair enough, they only live a street away from each other. She only noticed something was different when the front table was in a different spot than it was in her house. He led her to the couch, and told her to make herself comfortable. As she did, he disappeared into the kitchen. He reappeared a few moments later with two bowls of soup, water for her, and a beer for him. She felt a little bad that her friend was taking care of her, but ultimately felt so grateful that he cared enough about her to do so.
They ate in comfortable silence, and after finishing her soup, she started feeling incredibly exhausted. To no shock, he noticed that she was starting to fade. He took the dishes back into the kitchen, and when he returned to the living room, found her half asleep, curled up on the sofa. He gently pushed her hair away from her face, and gently laid a blanket on top of her. He whispered, “Goodnight, peaches.” She responded with a half-hearted mumble that sounded similar to, “Goodnight Jethro.” And with that, she fell into a very blissful sleep, where she dreamt of a very familiar silver-haired, steely-blue eyed man.
Cowboy. Gibbs only had (Y/N) to thank for that nickname. She calls him that only when they’re alone, neither of them want to ruin his reputation. It was a slow day, the team didn’t have a case, so they took the day to catch up on paperwork. Sometime in the afternoon, they all took a break (minus one silver-haired boss), and took turns guessing what their favorite movie genres were. Lastly, it was (Y/N)’s turn. She correctly guessed that Ziva hasn’t watched a lot of movies, Tim’s favorite is action-fantasy, and that Tony’s was classic films. But Gibbs, she had a hard time figuring his out. But ultimately, she correctly guessed he likes westerns. Specifically, black and white westerns. “Yeah I see it, cowboy. It fits.” And with that, that’s how he became “cowboy”. Just with an afternoon distraction from the mind-numbing paperwork they had all been busy with all day. The rest of the day went by in a blur. They all said their goodbyes and went their separate ways for the night. Sometime in the evening, (Y/N) found herself in Gibbs’ basement, drinking bourbon out of an old glass, talking with not her boss, but her friend.
“Why’d ya guess I like westerns?” “Because, you have this air of authority about you, your house is bare besides furniture, you have an old TV, and you build boats in your basement. Plus, at night, you smell like bourbon.” “Wow.” “Yeah… it’s one of my favorite things about you.” “What is?” “Everything. It’s just so you.” He leaned over and wrapped her in a hug. She swiftly accepted his hug, and held him tight. They spent the rest of the night laughing and talking about anything and everything. Not a lot of people know, but Gibbs can be very talkative with the right person. He also smiles his beautiful, soft smile quite a lot. But only when he’s with her. Only when he’s with his “peaches”. And when she’s with her “cowboy”, the sun will never be able to outshine her smile.

Someone asked me for reader sitting on abby’s face, but I deleted by accident. Sorry, babe, here you are. Hope you enjoy it.
Since Abby took interest on you, she’s been looking around more about how it could work out. I mean, the girl has only been with one man her whole life and, well… She wishes she could do better for you.
First times she misses a lot of things and was a little bit lost, but over the time she got her shit together and learned how fucking awesome it feels when you come on her tongue and fingers (and how amazing was to have someone who cares about her pleasure)
She also learns how much you like riding her thigh, caressing her arms and breasts and how you loved when she used a little of her strength to press you against the bed (she also fucking loved using it against you when you try to pull away from her when you’re close to cum – she wont fucking let you, of course, she will suck and lick you clit until your out of breath, thank you very much)
But after months of being together, Abby can’t erase something she read in a random magazine while patrolling one day.
“I’ve aways wondered when men ask us to sit on their face if they meant sit or hover.”
It was one of those old magazines with extremely muscular shirtless man on the cover, with weird topics Abby didn’t really understand about (she’s currently trying to survive in an apocalypse world, who fucking cares if man liked lace bras or not?)
Thing is, how do you approach your girlfriend and politely ask: “I’d like you to sit on my face”?
“Babe, have you ever wanted to try something different?” is the best she was able to afford
And you were confused because it’s Abby we’re talking about. Different as in patrols? Strategies? For your free time? Are you both going to talk about what would you do if you were living in a safe and normal world? You don’t know.
“I’ve been thinking of you sitting on my face.”
Okay, it wasn’t about patrols.
“Sit? Like, you laying down and I sit? Are you crazy, Abby? I could suffocate you.”
Abby was a woman in a mission. This mission being convincing you that you’re not going to kill her – and even if she died, she’d die as a happy woman.
And that’s how she found herself in the currently situation.
You could see her in her cargo pants and sports bra, laying on the bed while waiting for you. Honestly, you wonder how she succeeded to convince you. But the thing is that you can’t really deny Abby anything when she hugs you from behind with her hand on your hips and stomach while she kisses and whispers in your ear how good she could make you feel. How proud she would be of you.
Touching her arm softly to show her you were ready, her eyes swallowed your naked form and she licked her lips with desire. Her strong hands started to pull you against her and she caught your lips on hers.
Abby’s kisses always drives you wild. You’ve always thought she would always have the roughest kisses, but she could do so much more than that. Abby could be fucking sensual when exploring your mouth, playing with your tongue, teasing you, pressing you against her while using her hands to caress your nape. You could only melt in the hot volcano that was Abigail Anderson.
She softly let go of you and guided your body to sit on he stomach. Her callous hands making their way from your hips to your boobs, where she started massaging them and using the thumb to play with your already hard nipples.
“Fuck, babe. You look so fucking good.”
You let a little whimper out and put your hand on top of hers, making her squeeze your breasts a little tighter, causing her to groan.
“C’mon, pretty girl. Get up here for me.”
To say you were scared would've been an understatement, but you trusted Abby and you trusted you loved her enough to notice if she was uncomfortable. Slowly, trying not to hurt her, you positioned yourself on her head. You couldn’t deny how shy and excited you were and how your pussy clenched when she called you ‘pretty girl’.
“That’s right, babe. Can I touch you now?”
God, she was always like this. Making you all hot and bothered with her smooth voice, praising you and then asking for your permission as if you were going to say no. In the moment you allowed her, her hands went to the top of your thighs, pulling you toward her wanting mouth.
She gave short kisses in your thighs and pussy, enjoying how your breathing was starting to get out of pace, distracting you. When you less expected, Abby gave you a long lick from your needy hole to your pulsing clit. As a simple reaction, you tried to lift your body a little, but Abby was having nothing of that. She had you as a fucking feast in front of her face, all wet and tight, ready for her to feed. She’d make you ride her face until you couldn’t think about anything else but rubbing your hot cunt against her and cum like her pretty little slut.
“Don’t hover, sweet girl. Sit. Wanna fucking taste you. You gonna be good for me, yeah?”
Oh, God, yes, you were going to be good for Abby, you needed to be good for Abby.
That was your last coherent thought before doing what she asked you to. Before she uses her strong hands to hold you against her face, suck and lick you pussy like a starved woman.

The Diazes Know the Future (This Isn't It)
This is complete and utter crack. Please do not take it seriously.
I've also thrown it on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/55094557
On the night after each of his children are born, Ramon dreams of their future spouse just as he'd once dreamed of his own future wife.
And Eddie, his beautiful boy, is going to marry a man with a bright smile and a bruise over one eye.
Ramon is not okay with that at first, but, by the time his son is old enough to walk and interrogate the world, he has accepted what will be. But he also knows the world will not be kind to his son who will love a man and so he does everything he can to ensure his son is strong, manly, and good.
Growing up Eddie shows no signs of his inclination, but this does not worry Ramon or Helena. They have prepared. They have a variety of cross-stitched flags hidden away for whatever identity Eddie eventually comes to them with--gay, bi, queer, or even demisexual.
So. Shannon is a surprise.
After Eddie meets Shannon, every hope and wish Ramon and Helena had for their son seems to diminish. They try to like Eddie's wife, but when Ramon looks at her, all he can see is a barrier between his son and happiness.
When they learn Chris, amazing Chris has CP, Helena whispers in bed one night if Ramon thought it was a sign. She immediately apologizes for the thought and never says anything to anyone else, but sometimes when their eyes meet during Eddie's long absence, he knows what she is thinking.
Then Eddie returns and Shannon leaves and Eddie decides to relocate his entire life with barely a plan and it seemed like everything was falling to pieces.
They just want him to be happy.
But then their son reaches out again. He is smiling again. After each call, Helena frets, wondering if she should apologize, but fearing re-opening the wound if she speaks up again.
Then they meet Buck. On Zoom first and Ramon loses his words for a second finally seeing the man he dreamed of nearly three decades prior. Helena keeps poking his arm in excitement while trying to sound normal. God only knows what Buck thinks.
And then Eddie says he'll be visiting due to work. Buck will be coming along, too. Helena gets out her old cross-stitch flags and fans them across the dining room table. "Which one, do you think? Should we frame it somewhere he can see?"
But. Eddie brings no announcements. He and Buck are friends. Not even dating. Ramon and Helena both keep looking for signs, but find none. When Eddie notices the framed pride flag on the mantle, he only says he hadn't realized his mom had gotten back into cross-stitching. He doesn't even notice it is a pride flag.
After he leaves, Ramon sinks down on the couch next to Helena and asks, "Where did we go wrong?"
When Eddie says he's dating again, they get their hopes up, only to be disappointed once more.
"Ana?" Ramon spits with disgust. "Why are all these women wrecking my boy's future?"
"He said Christopher needs a mother. Why does he think Christopher needs a mother? Did we teach him that?"
They look at each other in horror. Had they done this somehow?
"We will fix it," Ramon promises.
They start by letting Eddie know they love him and are proud of him. No matter what. Ramon makes a point of mentioning one of his friends has a lesbian daughter and how happy they all were she was getting married soon. Helena asks after Buck. Ramon asks after Buck.
They both wonder if Eddie even notices their fascination with Buck, or if he's just happy for the chance to wax poetic on his 'best friend' and spit spite toward Buck's girlfriends: Abby, Ali, Taylor, Natalia.
"He sounds very important to you," Helena says, faintly, after a particularly long tangent on Buck.
"Of course he is," Eddie responds, not even seeming to realize what he's saying. Then he tells them about his will.
They can tell he's braced for anger, but this? This finally makes sense.
"Sounds like a good decision," Ramon says.
"We know you've always done your best for Chris," Helena adds, hoping again that her words lessen the sting of the ones she said years before in frustrated anger.
"Thanks," Eddie says, but he looks confused. "Is everything all right?"
"Of course," they tell him.
When Pepa calls crowing about setting Eddie up with Marisol, Ramon wants to break something.
"I'm sure he doesn't need your help," he tells his sister. He refuses to out his son before he is ready, at least not to anyone other than Helena, but she's his mother and Ramon's wife; she's the exception.
Then finally they get a call.
"What's wrong, mijo?" Ramon asks after Eddie's attempts at conversation start and wither for a full ten minutes.
"Nothing. I don't know why I called."
"Is everything all right with Marisol?"
"Oh, fine. Or, not fine. We just broke up."
"Good," Ramon says before he can stop himself. Then, into Eddie's stunned silence he adds, "She was not right for you."
Eddie barks a short, humorless laugh at that. "Is anyone?" Then, while Ramon is trying to formulate a response that is more than just soothing words, Eddie blurts out, "Buck's bi."
Ramon pumps his fist, glad they're on the phone and not Zoom. Helena sees him and rushes over. "Is that Eddie?" she asks. "Did he--?"
He places his fingers over her lips to quiet her and shakes his head. 'Buck,' he mouths.
Her mouth drops into an oh.
"I'm putting you on speaker. Your mother is here."
He taps the speaker button and places the phone on the table. Helena leans over. "Congratulations to your friend, honey. Do you think he'd like a pride flag? I've got several."
Ramon can see they're abandoning all pretense at subtlety.
"Why would you have pride flags?" Eddie asks, bewildered.
"Just in case," Helena chirps.
"Right." Their son is skeptical. "So if Adriana or Sophia or I--"
"Yes," Ramon cuts in.
"Always," Helena adds.
"That's why we wanted you strong," Ramon adds. "People are not kind."
"I have no idea--thank you?"
"We love you," Helena says. "No matter what."
"No matter who you love, whatever their gender," Ramon continues. "You are ours. Always."
"I--oh, shit, I need to go. Love you!"
"You too."
They do not know how their words send Eddie's mind spinning. They do not see the automatic way he enters the 118 and slowly walks upstairs. Or how, instead of saying 'hello,' he says in an almost dreamlike voice, "I think my parents just gave me the coming out speech?" Because he's practiced that speech before, too, when Chris was younger. He wanted to be ready so he didn't freeze in the moment just in case.
They do not see the double takes his co-workers give him or the presses for information. They do not see how their son's cheeks slowly warm as he processes the phone call more fully. "They told me they loved me whoever I loved. Even if that person is a man."
Nor do they hear Hen ask in a too careful and confused voice, "Did you tell your parents you were queer?"
And their Eddie will laugh and shake his head, because he hadn't. But then, when Buck bounds upstairs with a too-happy smile, a stone will sink in his gut and he will bury his face into hands right then and there because he had. He just hadn't realized.
Ramon and Helena will know none of this until 36 hours later when their boy calls them once more and asks without preamble, "How did you know? I didn't even-- I don't--"
And Ramon hands the phone, still on speaker, to Helena who finally gets to use her years of research and she asks him, "Have you heard of demisexuality? There are many ways to explain, but my favorite is that you have to want someone with your heart before you can want them with your body. You have to share a heart first. Honey, from the first time you mentioned Buck to us, we could tell how much your heart reached for his. And these days, when you talk about him, his love of knowledge, his way with Chris, we see how much of your heart you've already shared."
"I love him, don't I?"
"We're happy for you," Ramon says, but he hates how lost Eddie sounds. Love should make people feel sure and steadfast, not at sea.
That's when Eddie tells them about Tommy.
"Why is Eddie's path so hard?" Helena asks him after they've hung up.
Ramon shakes his head, also wishing he knew.
Eddie calls more often after that. He hasn't told anyone else yet. He says he doesn't know how to tell anyone without it being a confession and he can't confess. He refuses to wreck Buck's happiness.
Their stupid self-sacrificial son.
"You could be his happiness," Ramon argues.
Eddie doesn't listen.
Helena sends two of her flags: a bisexual one for Buck and a demisexual one for Eddie.
She does not know how long Eddie stares at the white, purple, gray, and black flag after he opens the package. How he runs his fingers over the stitches like they burn him until he finally picks it up, clutches it to his chest, and cries because here is actual physical proof of everything his parents have been saying and promising. He hasn't disappointed them. He is loved.
She does not know it takes him two weeks to take the cross-stitched flag with him to work and hang it in his locker. Instead of coming out, he simply re-adjusts. He is demisexual and in love with his best friend. The world keeps turning. Some people notice the flag and he just confirms their questions with a smile and quick word. He doesn't want to talk about it. He just wants to let it be.
Helena and Ramon start calling Buck "your Buck" in phone calls to Eddie. He protests at first, but Ramon says he should have faith.
They're discussing another visit to El Paso when everything changes again. Eddie has them on speaker so he can talk while he cooks.
"Your abuela says you need to bring your Buck home with you this time. She wants to test how well he remembers her pozole recipe," Ramon says.
Helena laughs. "I still cannot believe you never questioned that. Even I had to earn that recipe and your Buck gets it on, what, his second meeting with her?"
"Fifth." The correction does not come from Eddie.
"Buck." That does.
"We will talk later," Helena says. "Love you."
And they hang up even though neither of them wishes to. But if this is the moment that their son finally gets happiness, they aren't going to risk ruining it.
The next hour is nothing but nervous energy. Helena frogs a nearly-finished glove just to keep her hands busy. Ramon cleans.
Their phone chimes with a text. It is from Eddie. And it reads:
'My Buck. Thank you.'
Helena slumps into Ramon and he wraps his arm around her.
Finally.

Teach Me How To Love In Your Own Lyrics
(Part seven)
Prev. Part one
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He wasn’t going to lie. After a month of hotel breakfast, it was starting to get disgusting. Constant toast made with old bread and some of the crappiest cups of coffee ever. If he was extremely lucky, he’d get a waffle. He’d do anything to get a signature Hawkins diner French toast stick. He thinks it’s so dumb that they will be gone for three whole months and only have 12 concerts. As much as he loves his band and all the fans, he can’t wait for tour to be over. He wants to sleep in his own bed for a day. He wants see his uncle and feed the cats outside the trailer. He wants to stay up all night watching crappy movies with his friends. He especially wants to see Steve. He really really missed him. It was weird. He could hardly stand to be without him. He wonders what he was doing now. Is he even upset that Eddie left?
“Hellooo? Earth to eddie?” Freddie called out waving his hands in front of his face, “Gareth said he’s dedicating to Abby tonight.” At every concert they took turns dedicating the show to someone. Abby was Gareth’s little sister. She was 14 and was probably the sweetest kid he’d ever met.
“He’s too busy moping over his boyfriend,” Jeff sighed.
Pardon? He has a boyfriend that he wasn’t aware of? “Excuse me?”
“I said that you’re too busy mop-“
“No I heard you I’m just confused. What boyfriend?” They all laughed and he just stared blankly in return. When Gareth noticed he looked shocked.
“Steve? You aren’t dating?” Woah. How did they come to this conclusion?
“No?!”
“Really?” Freddie exclaimed, “there is no way! Have you seen you two?!”
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?! How did you come to this conclusion?” They all looked at each other with concern. How would anyone think that.
“I don’t know,” Jeff sighed, “it’s just… nothing man never mind, forget it.”
“Okay I’m sorry but,” Gareth started, “you do like him though right?” Wow. Rude. Just expose all of his secrets like it’s nothing. Without his consent! He felt personally attacked and harassed, so he denied.
“No way!” They all smirked. That snarky little smirk they used to get whatever they wanted. And it always worked, “oh my gooood fine. Yes. I have a massive gay crush on Steve ‘the hair’ Harrington! Happy?”
“Very,” Jeff said, “and it was extremely obvious. Why aren’t you dating?” Is this a real life question?
“Ummm hello? Steve is very obviously straight.” They did that weird look again! What is up with them?
“Sure man. Let’s just go… we have shows to preform,” Gareth clapped once and stood up. Today was concert number 5 so that means almost halfway done! One and a half months until he gets to see- oh god. It was obvious.
They grabbed their few bags and headed to the bus. It wasn’t too bad. They had a few too many blankets so at least it was cozy. They were currently in Southern Wyoming. Their next concert was in Denver. The roads were empty and there was nothing outside. He spent most of the ride with his Walkman and two pens so he can drum on his legs (Gareth hates when he does this, claiming it’s ‘his thing’).
He must’ve fallen asleep at some point because 3 hours later he woke up to Jeff screaming about his excitement. He got up and walked to his sweetheart (despite Steve and Robin constantly making fun of him, they all named their instruments: Jeff’s guitar is named baby, Freddie’s bass is named hot stuff and last but certainly not least Gareth’s drums are named Daniel.) He picked it up and some parts of Gareth’s drum set. They walked about three blocks and made it to the stadium. It was nice to say the least.
They had 1 hour until people started to show up. 2 until showtime. They quickly set up to get in as much practice as they could. They stopped after 45 minutes so a) they’d have time to get ready and b) so their fingers wouldn’t bleed at any point of the night.
They adrenaline was high back stage. They smoked (they swear just a little bit) just to ease the anxiety. They got dressed and waited. And waited some more. Waited until there was 15 minutes to go on stage. They were now standing up screaming nonsense at each other. They did this before every show. For no reason. They should probably stop before they lose their voices before they even go to play.
When they were about to go out they all downed an energy drink like it was a shot. “You guys ready?” Jeff asked. When they all said no, they walked out.
They amount of people there never failed to amaze Eddie. They were all screaming and if that didn’t immediately boost their confidence, nothing would.
Gareth walked up to the microphone to start the show. “Hello Denver!” the crowd quite literally went wild, “it is an honor to be here and we’d like to thank you all for coming! As you may or may not know we always dedicate our shows to a special someone. Tonight we are dedicating to my lovely little sister Abby. She is so kind and probably my best friend,” all of the band looked at each other with their jaws dropped in offense, “any ways I love her and here. We. Go!” Gareth ran back to his seat to count off to their first song of the night.
Eddie found it easy to get lost in the music. He forgets the crowd is there and before he knows it they are in their last song. This song has always been and always will be his favorite. Eddie had written it in ‘89 at three in the morning. He called it ‘Invisible Man (I See You)’. He wrote it after Steve had told him everything. And he means everything. From his dad, to Tommy, to the reading, and even what he thinks of himself. Steve had said, “nobody sees me for who I am. They think I’m dumb and ‘only good for my charm’. Don’t get me wrong, I am very charming,” he faked a laugh, “I hate it Eddie. I really do. I wish everyone would stop. I feel… invisible.” He never told Steve about the song. He would probably hate him if he found out. That’s a really weird thing to do for someone who is only his best friend and won’t ever be anything more.
The song was still heavy but somehow a lot more calmer. Playing made Eddie feel good. Really good. None of the band knew what the song was about. They just saw how the lyrics were better than the rest of the songs (which was really hard to beat) and immediately started working on the beat.
They might look through.
But don’t worry invisible man,
I see you.
The crowd felt electrifying during the song. He felt like he was floating. He waited for the crowd to die down a bit before closing off, “Goodnight Denver! You have been amazing! Crossing our fingers we’ll get to come back!” And just like that one more show was done. They ran to the bus and went to their next hotel.
When they got there they all told each other how amazing they did and goodnight before going in their own rooms.
After today Eddie only had one thing to do, call the invisible man himself. Much to his disappointment, he didn’t pick up. So he did the next best thing, called Robin.
“Heeeelllllooooooooo? How may I help you at this hour?”
“Steve?”
“Eddie!!! How are you? I’ve missed you. Did you have a concert tonight?”
“I’ve missed you too Steve, are you drunk right now?” He could hear Robin shout on the other end.
“Edddiiiiieeee!” She shouted, “we are indeed very drunk. We just got back from a gay bar!,” now why on earth would Steve be at a gay bar? The world may never know, “Steve has been angry all night. So annoying! He only just now cheered up when he heard yoooouuuu.” He could hear Steve giggling and telling her to shut up, “okay I have to go to bed. And Eddie?”
“Hm?”
She whispered so Steve couldn’t hear despite his protests, “for the love of god, please come home early so I don’t have to hear Steve cry about you anymore. Okay byeeeee!” What? Steve cried? Over him? She was probably lying. She was clearly over the legal drinking limit.
“Hi.”
“Hi Stevie.”
“I wish you could come home.”
“Me too.”
“Why? You’re probably having soooo much fun!” He smiled at the phone. He needs to start making Steve drink more often.
He sighed, “I am, but I’d rather be home. With you.” Oh god. That was way too much.
“Well Steve, it’s getting late. And you need some sleep. I’ll call you in the morning okay?”
“Okay. Love you Eddie. Good night.” Oh. Well. That was weird. It made Eddie feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But Steve is drunk, so it couldn’t mean anything. (But he heard the way Steve said it. He wholeheartedly meant it.)
“Good night Stevie.” He could practically hear his frown over the phone and he couldn’t handle that right now so he put the phone down.
After 20 minutes of deep thinking about the phone call and what Robin said, he slept the best he had since leaving.
The Eddie part! Despite it being short this one is by far my favorite. Also, call me Dr Suess cause I be rhyming 😎. I’m so proud for making a song title and lyrics. Also completely ignore the changes in the last part and act like it was always there. I love Steve immediately becoming somehow more intoxicated when he hears Eddie’s voice. Thank you for reading this. Also does anyone actually read my little authors note? Blah blah blah no one cares! As always: comment or reblog to be tagged in future parts! (Also just know if you complimented me or said literally anything: I blushed and giggled like a manic. Thank you guys so much!)
Devastated || 3. Fumble
Paring: (Christopher "Sully" Sullivan x Original Female Character Mance!)
Word Count: 1993
Warnings: slight language
Last: Untimely | Next: Perceive
Tumblr media
"During the party last night, you weren't so hard on Sully." Abby smiles as she and Jennifer relax in the pool.
"He apologized for how he was yesterday. And he's never apologized before, so he's slightly learning." Jennifer lays back.
"Are you going to give him a chance, maybe?" Abby laughs.
"Depends. I've always had a thing for him, but I didn't want to risk it." Jennifer explains with a sigh.
"And if he shows a change, you're willing to take the risk?" Abby asks, so Jenny just shrugs her shoulders as they both relax.
"Abby! Jenny!" Beth yells, making them look over at her, saying hi.
"Come on in." Abby tells her.
"If you say so." Beth shouts.
"Incoming!" All the guys yell, coming out, jumping into the pool, and messing with the two girls.
"How old are you idiots." Jenny coughs on water.
"Up and breathe." Sully holds her up, patting her back.
"It's your fault you made a tsunami wave into my mouth playing around." She keeps coughing.
"Do you need to get out for a minute?" He keeps patting her back, "Need mouth to mouth?"
"I'm okay now." She can finally breathe, laughing at him.
"Just trying to save your life." He laughs with her.
A little time passed, and they were all drinking in the pool while Beth sat on the edge till she and Sully played around.
"Looks like Cal is still recovering." Abby says so they all look at him with Chloe.
"Yeah, I'm surprised to see them out at all this morning. They were at each other all night." Danny says.
"Whoa, he-he was pissed at her?" Sully asks.
"No, Urkel. Going at it. Like howler monkeys. I'm amazed anybody in the hotel got any sleep." Danny corrects him.
"I heard them, too. What's a boozzle-wozzle?" Booth asks.
"I don't get it."
"He's a nice guy, Sully. Sometimes, that's enough." Abby tells him.
"Exactly, you wouldn't know that." Jennifer eyes him getting out of the pool.
"Well, you pissed her off." Danny laughs while Sully swims over to Chloe and Cal.
"Hey, man... Hey, sorry again about leaving you hanging. That was totally my bad. I owe you a beer, okay." He tells Cal and eyes Chloe as Jennifer passes them.
"Glad to see you doing well Cal." She lets him know as she passes them.
"Jen," Sully sighs as she keeps walking away. "Fuck," He groans. "Abby..."
"Nope, I'm not helping you with her." She says as her dad shows up.
As Jennifer walks to her room with her towel wrapped around her, she bumps into Henry, "Sorry. You okay? You look angry." She asks him.
"I'm fine. Just stressed with some wedding stuff. That's all." He forces a smile.
"Do you need any help? I have no plans for the day. Don't really want to spa because of your best man."
"What did he do now?" He sighs.
"Nothing different, that's the thing." Her voice slightly cracks, "I'm just going to be in my room so if you need anything, that's where I'll be." She walks off so Henry follows her.
"Jenny, do you actually have a thing for him?" He closes her door behind him as she looks for clothes to change into.
"Would you hate me if I did because sadly I kind of do." She throws her towel into the bathroom then goes in there herself shutting the door.
"How long, Jen?" Henry sits on her bed.
"Kind of since you introduced us fourteen years ago, but I was smart not to do anything. Why did I think he could change for me?" She opens the door dressed, "There's nothing special about me. To him, I'm just another attractive girl he wants to hook up with." She falls back to lie down on her bed.
"Hey, you are special. He's just not that bright to see what every other person on this planet sees in you." Henry lays back beside her with his head turned towards her.
"Where are all the sweet guys like you, Cal, and my brother at? I just want someone who looks at me the way you look at Trish, Cal to Chloe, and Jimmy to Abby. I want to be someone's number one and only one." She looks at him before grabbing her pillow to put over her face.
"Hey, hey, hey. No, don't do that." Henry sits up, removing the pillow from her. "Look at me." He pulls her to sit up, "There is someone out there for you. Just give it a little more time. Any guy would be lucky to have you. Sully is just one guy in the entire world full of other guys."
"Are you really just giving me the there are plenty of other fish in the sea speech without actually saying that?"
"Hey, I'm trying to be a good friend here." He playfully pushes her.
"And you are, trust me. You're someone I can always count on. Now give me a hug please." She opens her arms, "I really need one, and you look like you do, too, with how stressed you are."
"Hugs fix anything and everything we used to say." He hugs her.
"And they still do."
"You just relax in here stress-free from Sully while I have wedding stuff to do." Henry gets up.
"Don't overwork yourself!" She shouts as he shuts the door.
Jennifer's plans for the day were to nap all day, so when later Sully was knocking at her door, she stayed in bed pretending not to be there.
"Hey, Chloe." Sully walked over to her while she was outside on her yoga mat. "I have a favor to ask." He bends down to her.
"That's funny coming from you."
"It's about Jennifer." He sighs.
"You mean she doesn't fall for your charm either?" She laughs, getting up.
"I've been trying for eleven years."
"Eleven years? You never give up, do you." She laughs more.
"I mean, normally I do after some time, but this is Jennifer. I really like her." Sully explains to her.
"If you really liked her... You wouldn't eye me, Sully."
"Just help me, please. Henry and Abby won't, and none of the guys want to either." He begs her.
"I'll give you some tips when you join me for a spa treatment..." She smiles, having two ideas.
"Thank you so much." He runs off.
For the spa, Chloe had Sully basically covered in a honey mask to clear his pores, "It makes your skin very touchable. Jennifer can't resist you." Chloe smiles.
"Well, I like touchable. So you think she'll tell the difference in my skin?"
"She'll completely tell, trust me. After this, you should go find her and ask her. Once she can tell, she won't take her hands off you." She smiles.
"I'll be back in about ten minutes." The lady puts cucumbers over his eyes.
"So I gotta ask, this English guy- you know, he seems decent enough. Apparently, Jenny says she can see what you see in him. So what does he got that I don't?" Sully asks.
"A pillow." Cal speaks up, dumping the feathers on him. "Well played my love." Cal kisses Chloe before running off with Sully chasing him.
"Come here, you English piece of crap!"
"Looks like Pooh Bear got in the honey pot." Danny jokes as they run past, causing the guys to laugh.
While Jennifer was waking up from a nap, she heard tapping on her window just to see Sully still covered in the honey mask and feathers.
"What the?" She laughs, walking over and opening her window, "What happened, Honey." She laughs.
"Chloe and Cal. Umm, can you help me?" He asks, embarrassed.
"I'll be out in a sec." She closes the window and heads outside. "There's a hose this way." She motions him to follow her.
"You're gonna hose me down?"
"What other way are you getting those feathers off? The shower, no. Hold that sheet tightly because I don't wanna see anything." She tells him so he rolls his eyes as she turns in the hose.
"OUCH! HEY!" He shouts as she squeezes the trigger making it come out hard.
"Start rubbing yourself like you're washing your body."
"You told me to hold the sheet!" He yells at her.
"You have two hands, Sully." She goes over to spray him and help him get off the feathers. They don't even know how long they were outside getting the feathers off, "Okay, now you can go take a shower. You're welcome." She puts the hose up.
"Thank you." He kisses her cheek, running away to get to his room while Jenny just giggles, watching him.
Tumblr media
On the way to dinner, Jennifer sees Sully walking by himself, and she can hear him cursing to himself, "Hey, Pooh Bear. How was your shower?" She jogs to catch up to him.
"Hard to tell if I got it all off because of how your skin looks and feels." He huffs.
"You do look shiny. Let me feel how soft you are." She grabs his arm to stop him from walking. "Wow, that's nice. You smell really good, too, from it. Maybe you should do that more often. You'll give me a reason to be around you." She jokes.
"So something good came out of my miserable experience."
"Yeah, if you take me hosing you down while you wear just a sheet around your waist and complementing how good you smell and soft you are from it." She laughs.
"So Chloe was kind of right?" He thinks out loud.
"Did you ask Chloe for help since no one else will help you out with me?" Jennifer crosses her arms, laughing.
"Maybe I did, and she said it would make my skin very touchable, and you couldn't resist me." He says, embarrassed.
"Well, she wasn't wrong because I stopped you to feel how your skin felt." Jennifer laughs, "Come on, I know you're still butt hurt about Cal with the pillow, so let's go get you a drink. But you did deserve it for forgetting him."
"Hush,"
"It's Pooh Bear." Danny jokes.
"Very funny, like I didn't hear Jen already call me that." Sully takes his spot at the bar to drink.
"Dude, you are so shiny." Malcolm smiles.
"Yeah, and I smell really great, too." Sully adds.
"Sorry about today, mate. Totally my bad. I owe you a beer, okay?" Cal comes up and then walks away.
"That's harsh." Danny smiles.
"Truly,"
"Our best player just got played." Malcolm says before they all fake sneeze feathers at him.
"Okay... I am going to kill Cal." Sully tells Henry as he walks by.
"No, no, you're not. You left him hanging like a piñata. He got you back. You're even." Henry pats his arm.
"The groom is 100% correct. Yes, your buddies are laughing at you but think of what good happened because of it. I technically stop being mad at you ." Jennifer pats his shoulder.
"Wanna smell me better?" Sully smirks, wrapping an arm around her waist to pull her closer to him, so she puts her hand on his chest, laughing at him.
"I can smell you from right here, Pooh Bear."
"See, I don't have a problem with you calling me that, but Danny is a different story." Sully kept his arm around her, and she didn't care.
"Is that my new nickname for you?"
"Whatever you want. If I'm Pooh, you're Piglet because you're small size." He causes her to giggle.
"Okay, I'm a coward, have anxiety, and insecure, so I'm a perfect Piglet."
"What are you insecure about? You have nothing to be insecure about, Jen." He leans back to look at her.
"I appreciate that, but everyone has something they're insecure about. You might not know about it no matter how close you are to them." She explains to him, so Sully nods his head, leaving it at that.
Ok but what about finding out you’re pregnant and being afraid to tell Tom because you haven’t made your relationship public (even though it’s been years) and you don’t want this to effect his career but he finds out somehow and is just the happiest and immediately wants to buy all the Abby things and baby proof the house and and and fluffy fluff. 🥺
the way this ended up being 1.2k lol what but thank u this is so soft 🥺
all i want
Tumblr media
Eight letters stared up at you. For someone in a happy, healthy, and stable relationship of nearly five years with the man you were certain you wanted to marry and have kids with, the one small word shouldn’t have scared you so much. But it did. Pregnant.
Though you’d been together going on five years, the two of you had somehow managed to keep your relationship under wraps. Outside of work, Tom was a private person and preferred to keep things that way, which was more than okay with you, as you didn’t particularly enjoy the spotlight. But now that you were pregnant… it would be much harder to hide it all. Nausea swirled in your stomach, but you couldn’t be sure if it was the anxiety or pregnancy. Or maybe the bit of excitement that was also mixed in. While you weren’t sure the timing was right, due to Tom’s career taking off, you and Tom had talked about having kids before, so there was also a part of you that fluttered with nervous excitement. You just couldn’t help that the anxiety seemed to be talking just a bit louder; you didn’t want to jeopardize Tom’s career or your relationship with him.
Unsure of how you were going to tell Tom, you shoved the small pregnancy test to the back of one of your bathroom drawers. You’d have to think of the perfect way to tell him, as well as swallow a bit of your fear before you could break the news. And the back of the drawer seemed like the best solution for the time being.
Only a few days later, Tom was rummaging through each and every single one of the bathroom drawers, looking for one of the new, spare toothbrushes you always had lying around, as his had just slipped out of his hands and onto the floor. While he knew this specific drawer was usually full of your hair products, he could really never be certain where you stashed stuff and was looking in every drawer just to be safe.
Spotting the test at the back of the drawer, but unsure of what it was, Tom pulled it out. It had been upside down, so he wasn’t exactly sure what it was until he flipped it over. Pregnant. Tom’s heart began racing, a grin breaking out on his face as he read the words again to make sure he’d read it correctly. You were pregnant.
If there was one thing in life that Tom was sure of, it was that you were the person he wanted to spend his life with; to get married, have kids, and grow old together. And the possibility that that could start now excited him. He wasn’t sure how long you’d known, or why you hadn’t told him yet, be he wasn’t worried. He knew you would tell him when you felt ready to. So, instead, he tucked the small test back into the back of the drawer, and thought of ways he could potentially hint to it, to let you know that it was okay.
Over the next few days, Tom insisted that you get to bed early to get as much rest as possible, refused to let you carry anything heavy, and had even bought you some of your favorite chocolates, just when you started to crave them. And, when he had been at the store, he saw the smallest, cutest Spider-Man onesie he’d ever seen, and couldn’t resist buying it. He’d give it to you when you were ready.
It was only a few more days later when you finally felt ready to tell Tom. Fear was still eating you up inside, but you’d sat with the secret for nearly a week, and it was killing you to keep it from Tom. You decided that after dinner was the best time, and retrieved the rest from the back of the drawer, keeping it hidden in your pocket until you were ready.
Tom got out of his chair, scooping up his plate and yours to bring them to the kitchen, pressing a kiss to the top of your head as he walked by. Deciding it was now or never, you quickly pushed your chair back, and followed Tom into the kitchen. He had already started rinsing dishes and putting them into the dishwasher, so you took a seat at one of the stools at the counter.
The two of you sat in comfortable silence for a few minutes, Tom humming to himself as he continued to clean up the mess made during dinner. Taking a deep breath, you clasped your hands together and finally looked up at your boyfriend, “Tom?”
“Yes, my love?” Tom replied, back still facing you.
“I, umm… I have something to tell you. It’s important.”
This for Tom’s attention, and he quickly dried his hands on a towel, turning around, eyes wide as he quickly blurted out, “Okay, just hold that thought! I’ll be right back!”
“No, Tom, it’s really—“
He was already halfway up the stairs before you could finish your sentence, taking them two at a time so he could get back to you as quickly as possible. You never quite understood what was going through his head. To his credit, though, he was back in a minute, holding a small gift bag in his hands.
“What is that?” you asked, utterly confused as to what it could be for, and why it was so important.
“You’ll find out, darling. What did you want to tell me?”
You shook your head in amusement, and then turned on the stool to face Tom. Your heart was racing but you knew you had to do it now, “I’m pregnant, Tom.”
A huge smile broke out on Tom’s face as he closed the space between you, moving to stand between your legs. Without saying anything, he held the small bag out to you, placing one of his hands on your knee.
Furrowing your eyebrows together, you took the bag and slowly pulled the wrapping out of it, only to find the small onesie Tom had bought. Your eyes filled with tears as your head whipped up, a smile tugging at your lips, “You knew? How?”
Tom laughed as he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you in as close as possible, “I accidentally found the test in the drawer a few days ago.” His lips pressed to the top of your head, the warm palm of his hand running over your back, “I’m so happy, darling.”
At this, you burst into tears from the relief. Your voice came out muffled against his shirt, “Y-you’re not mad?”
“Love, how could I be mad?” he questioned, pulling back just enough to cup your cheeks in his hands. He was staring at you seriously, a few tears welling in his eyes now as he looked at you, thumb brushing over your cheek to wipe away your tears.
“I-I don’t know,” you hiccuped, leaning into his touch, “Th-that I didn’t tell you right away. Or, or maybe it’s just not the right time, the public doesn’t even know we’re together, and I—“
Tom cut off your nervous rambling with a soft kiss to your lips, “I couldn’t be mad about this. We’re having a baby. I love you so much, sweetheart, this is all I could ever want.”
“We’re having a baby,” you repeated with a soft laugh, giving Tom another kiss, “I love you so much, Tom.”
“This weekend, we’ll go to the store and start buying stuff, okay? Bottles, a crib, diapers—“
Tumblr media
Blankets surrounded your body, your leg ontop of another while light snores left your mouth. Hair was messed up and a hand was slowly moving to stroke your cheek. The curtains allowed peaks of the sunlight to peak through in your bedroom. A man lying beside you in his sweatpants and old tee.
The grey haired, older, man kept his eyes on your peacefully sleeping face, truly enjoying whatever dream you were imagining. He made no move to remove your leg from the top of his, but did make a move to place his fingers above your face, lightly pushing some stray baby hairs away.
A part of him silently cursed to himself, wishing that he had learned how to work his phone better, then being able to snap a photo of this calming moment for his own purposes.
Gibbs wouldn’t admit it to you, but these moments were more important to him than working on a boat, or the thrill after finally catching a bastard. There was something so domestic, so calming, with these times spent together. Time for him to think to himself, and also have the one he loves so much be so close.
Time to think about the past, and wonder how he got lucky enough for it to land here. Though, he may have lost a lot, and they would never be forgotten, he was grateful for another opportunity at pure happiness.
But his time to enjoy the peacefulness soon ended with a ring of a cellphone, causing you to stir a bit in your sleep. You eventually opened your eyes, staring up at the man who now had the hand that was formally on your face, resting on your chest.
“What’s that?” You questioned, trying to sit up and rub your eyes. “Can you get it?”
“It’s your cellphone,” He answered, missing the warmth of your leg, now having it be moved to lay on the mattress itself.
“Mmk,” You mumbled, reaching over to your side table and grabbing it. Flipping the screen up, you moved it to your ear. “L/n,” You tried to make your morning voice sound more as your own.
“If it isn’t little Y/n!” A cheerful voice spoke loudly on the other line. “Ya miss me?”
“No. What do you need?” You rolled your eyes, getting off of the bed, Gibbs eyes traveling your body as you walked to your dresser, picking out a outfit. “Mhm, okay,” You nodded to yourself. “I’ll be there, text me the address. Oh. Never mind then. Bye.”
Gibbs got out of the bed, going to stand beside you. He silently observed as you rolled your eyes once again, opening another drawer, he snaked his arms around your waist and pulled you into his chest, a small kiss on the inside of your neck.
“Who’s that?”
“A old coworker.” You opened your underwear drawer, picking a pair for the day.
“Purple,” Gibbs commented, as you dropped the blue pair back into the others, reaching for the one he chose.
“Gosh, it’s like we really are married,” You laughed to yourself, looking back at his straight face. “Sorry, you would know too much about that. But that’s not my point, there is a dead marine there and that means we’ve got work.”
“You didn’t seem to happy to hear from him,” Gibbs unwrapped his arms as you moved to your closet, picking out a dress shirt.
“I wasn’t. He’s annoying and almost cost me my job at the time. But, it’s our job, we have to go, so grab your clothes in the bottom drawers,” You turned around and pointed at the dresser that held some of his items, now finding what you needed and beginning to change.
“If you are all interested to know… I spent the morning watching a old TV show airing about a classic comedic couple who travels the world with their adopted son,” Tony announced to no one in particular, sitting at his desk as the others sat at theirs.
Ziva had her arms crossed, leaning back in her chair a bit. McGee sat in his, rubbing his eyes and looking down at his phone.
“What did you do this morning, McGee?” Ziva looked over to McGee, watching as his eyebrows furrowed.
“Trying to work on my new writing.. but for my character, uh, Miranda, I need a good backstory for her, people are really grasping onto her character from the former story. I’ve read some things saying they think she’ll get with Gibbs, I mean Libbs!”
“Interesting,” Ziva tsked. “I read the story and your Miranda character, who is obviously Y/n, and I don’t see it.”
“You know nothing about romance, Ziva,” Tony waltzed over, his own coffee in hand and his face near hers. “I think no one expects you to think about who would get together. But, no, I don’t see Gibbs getting with someone like L/n who is very, you know-”
“I’m what, DiNozzo?” You walked in, moving straight to your desk as you placed your bag down.
“Amazing! I meant, you’re so great that someone like Gib-” Tony looked at Ziva’s eyes widen. “He’s right behind me, isn’t he?”
“Someone like me, now what’s that, DiNozzo?” Gibbs questioned.
“Uh-” Gibbs smacked the back of DiNozzos head, moving over to his own desk.
“Dead sailor, body is already getting examined by Ducky and some visitors are coming to drop off some of the evidence.” Gibbs informed everyone.
“They think this sailor had something to do with a past robbery and murder, a cold case,” You clarified.
“L/n!” A guy smiled widely, another girl following in pursuit behind him as he walked to you with his arms wide open. “It’s been too long,” He quickly hugged you, tightening his grip around your shoulders and moving his hands to cup your face. “You still look as beautiful as ever!”
“Y/n, is that your boyfriend?” Ziva inquired.
“He looks a little out of her leagu-” You shot DiNozzo a look. “Or not?”
“Ah no,” The man laughed. “Old coworkers, that is Lila and I’m Carson, nice to meet you guys.”
“If your old coworkers, you must have a ton of embarrassing stories about Y/n!” DiNozzo beamed, moving closer to Carson.
“Uh, a few,” He responded. “We only worked together for a year or two, some, but not a ton.”
“Some will do.”
“DiNozzo, we aren’t here to make friends we are here to solve a murder,” Gibbs shot him a look and hit the back of his head.
“Right, sorry, boss.” DiNozzo put his head down like a sad puppy dog and made his way back to his desk. The two visitors looked at the scene that had just happened oddly.
“We brought all of our evidence, not much, but something,” Lila announced, placing the box on the table now and taking some of it out. “Should we get started?”
“I’ll show you to Abby, she is our forensic analysts and will probably want to take a look at this stuff for herself,” McGee told Lila, putting the evidence back in the box and letting her grab it, soon walking towards the elevator.
“You think I could check out the body?” Carson asked you. “It might be good to see what he looked like more and talk with your doctor.”
“That makes sense, I’ll show you to him,” You smiled at your old coworker and took another way to Ducky’s area.
The both of you chatted on the way down, catching up with how things differ since you worked there and a bit about your new workplace here.
“I really thought you would be Jeremy, the one who called me. I was a bit worried,” You laughed, walking into Autopsy with Carson as Ducky moved near you.
“Hello, dear, who’s this?” Ducky questioned, Jimmy moved near his boss.
“Hey, Ducky, this is Carson. Carson, this is Doctor Mallard. He is a old coworker of mine, Ducky,” You told the older man. “That’s Jimmy, he is Ducky’s assistant.”
Ducky began to explain how the man had died, pointing out various things on the body and even putting in a few past experiences of his own into the conversation.
Soon the four of you had heard the doors open, turning around to catch the view of your boyfriend entering into the room and moving to stand right in between you and Carson.
“I just want to hear some of the explanation myself, you can continue, Ducky,” Gibbs commented, all of your eyes turning back onto Ducky who was back to talking.
You felt a warm, larger hand travel to the middle of your back, a thumb softly pressing into the fabric that covered your skin. You turned your head slightly to make eye contact with Gibbs, but he just continued to stare forward ignoring it.
It was like a goosebump went up your spine, yet it wasn’t not encouraged. It was a bit of a energetic feeling, so you rejoiced in the innocent touch, a sign he was there.
Eventually, Ducky was done with his long explanation and you were back to heading upstairs with Carson and Gibbs to do more research regarding the deadman and cold case.
“So, Y/n, I was thinking we could go out to lunch or something soon to really catch up, outside of work,” Carson mentioned while you three were on the elevator ride up.
You were surprised at his somewhat boldness to announce this in front of your boss (and boyfriend), but he was always a very open person, kind and open.
“That doesn’t sound too bad,” You replied.
“We are busy most afternoons.” Gibbs added. “So, if you plan it at some ridiculous time don’t expect my agent to be able to make it.”
The doors soon chimed open and Carson quickly left, making a bee line straight to Lila. Gibbs let you leave first, placing another palm against your back to secretly lead you back to where the desks were, even though you knew where you were going.
———————
The rest of the day was spent with much more working diligently. You all had made some progress but not enough, and you could tell it was really getting to Gibbs. He dismissed everyone and told them to come back in the early hours in the morning.
Gibbs had told you that he was going to stay and work on this some more, so you told him you would stay as well and order some food. Once Carson had heard that, he decided that he would do the same.
A hour later, three burgers arrive and you hand them out to the two other men, soon taking a bite into yours. A bit of the condiment had spewed onto the corners of your mouth, but your hunger caught up with you, continuing to avoid the feeling for a moment and just eat.
Carson caught the look of your messiness, breaking off into a small laugh, and you joining, him then making a joke about how this used to be a regular for you. Gibbs got up from his seat with a napkin and bent over a bit to wipe it away from your mouth.
It was certainly a small gesture, but had caught you and Carson off guard, the both of you quieting. You just stared back at him while he continued to eat with a pride grin on his lips, looking over the papers.
It seemed like a blessing from the sky when Gibbs had finally connected the pieces. Everyone was called back in to look over what he found and to excite a plan on how to continue. You all were able to get the murderer into custody and with old evidence and Ducky’s help you were able to identify he was the killer. With Abby’s help you were able to put him at the scene where your old coworkers cold case took place.
It was a relieving feeling that the case was solved and over. It was easy to tell that your current coworkers were also happy with the fact that your old ones were leaving for good. Having unfamiliar people in a familiar place is always a weird feeling for everyone.
You watched as everyone packed up their things to head home from the tiring few days of work. Standing up, you grabbed your bag and moved to Gibbs desk, chatting with him until Carson came over.
“It was nice working with you again,” He commented, you turned around to face him.
“It was. We make a good team.”
“We really do. I was wondering about that, uh, date?”
“Hm,” That had slipped your mind, and almost did once more when you felt a brush of a hand against your bottom, turning around to make eyes at your boyfriend. “Sorry, I actually have a boyfriend. But if you mean the lunch date to catch up, then I’d love to.”
“The second one,” He nodded, his cheeks brightening a bit at the dejection but also confirmation.
“Great,” You grinned, writing down your phone number and handing it to him. “Talk soon, bye.”
“Goodbye.”
You watched as Carson entered the elevator and soon disappeared, the office area looking very empty with the lights darkened a bit and only you and Gibbs being in the area.
“Glad he’s gone,” Gibbs laughed.
“I figured,” You laughed alongside with him. “I could tell by your touchiness at work, are you trying to let everyone know?”
“If I was, I would do something bolder. Didn’t Ducky ever tell you I used to be like DiNozzo?”
“Yeah, that would be a interesting time to see.”
“I think if I was that same man, we might’ve had sex right o-”
“Let’s get home, now,” You both soon left the workplace, hand in hand, laughing along at stories of the younger Gibbs and his flirty persona.
Tumblr media
“Morning, sleepyhead.”
… Whose voice is that? Your senses are too hazy yet to process who it was or what he said. You blink your bleary eyes and wake up in an… unfamiliar bed. The sheets are a ridiculous resplendent red—must be a love motel or some shit—there’s a story as to how you ended up here but you find you can’t remember any of it. Sleep was so deep that you feel as if you’re waking from the dead.
When your eyes finally flutter open everything comes flooding back. You’re here in bed with Charlie Motherfucking Hunnam and the sight of his blue gaze and bright white grin gives you a goddamn heart attack.
You cover your face with your hands and groan out loud at just how mortified you are. Recalling how you’d made a clown out of yourself last night when you bumped into this million-dollar movie star. Literally bumped into him—till yesterday you never even knew him—you had just been crushing hard on him for years but he was always a completely unattainable celebrity. A girls’ trip brought you to Sin City; you and your besties were hopping casually from bar to bar, when you had stumbled clumsily straight into Charlie as he stepped out of his car.
You’d simply scurried off in that instant ‘cause he was too damn beautiful in person and your ass was terrified. But then bumped into him again soon after you both got inside. This time you had a full martini glass in hand and spilled its contents all across his shirt and thought you ought to help the man get dried. Decided then you really shouldn’t try to run away and hide.
You’d grabbed a bunch of napkins, dabbing at his chest and abs through the damp fabric as you nervously apologized for what happened. Your spastic wiping motions all across his chiseled muscles weren’t exactly very helpful with the spilled drink situation, as your brain cells were all absent in the face of heaven’s most stunning creation. Charlie said some shit about how bumping into you a second time wasn’t an accident. You were too hypnotized with lust to understand just what he meant.
He joked that you could make it up to him by winning him a jackpot at the slot machines. You told him shyly that the whole gambling thing isn’t quite your scene. Although he didn’t want to pressure you he asked you to indulge him in a night of fun—all kinds of shit you’d never done—let him take you out around Vegas to the wildest places you had never been.
It didn’t make sense that you felt so safe with him but hell you did. You were still sober by the time Charlie was coming onto you and all your girlfriends chanted do it do it do it! And the craziest night of your life began before you even knew it. Took you to his favorite high-stakes casino—then to seats in the front row at a big AEW Dynamite show—and then to some intense axe-throwing place that also offered knives and ninja stars and other shit to throw.
The best part of the night though… was of course when Charlie claimed you as his dirty little ho. The memory of it is vivid as you look up at him now and find that both of you are still stuck in the most mind-blowing afterglow.
“No way that was your first fucking time throwing knives?!” Charlie shakes his blonde head in defeat as he walks you back out to the sweet car he drives. “Bitch I swear you’ve been doing this shit your whole life.”
You slide into the passenger seat while erupting in laughter. He’s so fucking butthurt that your aim was better than his because he’s a competitive smug little bastard. “Well I am an assassin specifically hired to take out insanely attractive actors… but I can assure you that wasn’t a factor.”
Tumblr media
He closes the driver’s side door, turns the keys and the engine ignites in a smooth thrumming roar. “And by ‘take out’ you mean…?”
“It’s cute of you to ask but dinner and a movie isn’t really the assassin scene.”
He chuckles playfully as he speeds down the street, the night alive with white hot heat, the lights of Vegas bright as ever as the night deepens. “You gonna kill me in my sleep, then?”
“That’d be making it too easy.”
“Babe, don’t tease me. We both know you make it hard.”
Okay so he just pulled that card.
Fight off the burning urge to stare down at his crotch—no doubt the car would crash then if you saw what you’re imagining and know you’d be unable to resist the urge to touch…
You’ve never wanted anyone or anything in all your life so fucking much.
The sudden tension in the air leads him to smooth back his slicked hair, facing the road with a restrained stare. He’s been picking up on signals all night long but doesn’t dare to just assume you want to go there. Tries to come off calm and cool although there’s nothing he wants more. “So, uh—should I just drive you back to your hotel or…?”
The voice that comes out of your mouth is one you barely even recognize. It takes both you and Charlie by surprise, the way your inner slut replies: “That’d be a fucking bore. You know I’d much rather you take me back to yours… so you can fuck me like a filthy little whore.”
***************
The swanky penthouse suite in the five-star hotel where Charlie came to stay… it’s a ten-minute drive away.
That’s way too far needless to say.
He needs you right this second, after what you’d gone and said—although the backseat of his car is a fine spot for a good wrecking, there are fifty shades of shit he’d rather do with you spread in the comfort of a big sumptuous bed.
Thankfully there is an extremely tacky-looking love motel just down the road. And it’s the perfect place for you two to check in and let your passions for each other just explode.
It turns out this particular motel has a requirement for guests to stay the night that just might pose a bit of trouble: lovebirds have to pass through the adjoining chapel first and be a lawfully wedded couple.
So you stand uncomfortably at the reception desk and bite your tongue. Happen to know that Charlie tied the knot in Vegas once when he was young; you’ve heard about it in some interviews. You’re sure that he’d have no desire to repeat that same mistake tonight with you.
But this has been a night of wild crazy shit and he’s on fire to continue.
Mostly it’s just that he really needs his dick in you… but there’s a spark that he can feel might someday blossom into something more and he just hopes that you can feel it too.
***************
Of course you do. The ceremony is a joke but you’re both giddy as if it’s real by the time you’ve seen it through. There’s just no hope of sanity and self-control between you two.
You’re in a fluffy white confection of a wedding gown that this establishment provided for the night. You look like a big puff of cotton fucking candy and he wants to take a bite. So much about this night seems wrong, but when the heat between the racing of your heartbeats is so strong, it can’t feel anything but right.
Once you’re at last inside your room he throws you down onto the bed and dives headfirst into your gown, and goes to town, taking you high until you die as he goes down.
The dress is so damn big, that you can’t see his flawless face, let alone his glorious dick, and that’s a royal fucking waste. You need to see and touch and taste.
He knows exactly what you need and ravenously rips the poufy fabric off of you. His pearly smile and the bristles of his beard are gleaming with your pussy juices as he climbs on top of you. You long to tell him just how bad you want to blow him—want to tell him that you love him even though you barely know him—it would be fucking insane to say I love you, but of course you can still show him.
Yet he wants to consummate this marriage first, before he lets you satisfy your thirst. You’ll have a lifetime’s worth of days and nights to suck on his big dick if you decide to stay with him and make him yours.
That’s everything you want of course.
This whirlwind of a night that started with a stupid joke about hitting the jackpot at the slot machines… turned into you being his motherfucking wife, after the wildest and best night of your motherfucking life. And now he’s here on top of you about to fuck you and it’s totally outrageously obscene.
You wouldn’t have it any other way ‘cause you know you were put on earth to serve as Charlie Hunnam’s dirty little slut machine.
Here. Finally.
It took a long time, but you arrived.
Maybe you regretted it a little, feeling the sun burn your skin as it scorched down, but there was no turning back now. You’ve made it this far. Santa Barbara, and hopefully one step closer to reaching Ellie.
Albeit you knew you weren’t going to find anything on the abandoned boat that you came to. Everything here seemed to be untouched for a couple months, if this was Abby, she was long gone now.
“Has Ellie passed by here?” You couldn't help but wonder out loud whilst you stepped out of the cabin and walked off to jump off the boat—Is she even here?—you think to yourself.
Nevertheless You couldn’t stay out here in this damn blazing sun for too long, nor could you stay so below, you needed to get to higher ground. You could possibly find something there—your eyes lift to the house that overlooked the ocean behind you and getting there, or just getting higher was your goal. And it wasn’t a tough thing to do, the terrain was easy to get through, you just expected the neighborhood you ran into, Messa Bluff, to be tough. All neighborhoods were. Those not used anyway.
You pulled out your gun expecting to hear, or see any sort of infected roaming mindlessly in the streets, but as you walked towards the first house you saw, there was dead infected on the ground. And it could be an old body, but as your eyes roamed it’s ugly figure, you noticed the fresh blood that spilled from the wound on its head. Some of it was still pouring out of its corpse, so it was just killed.
“Hmm,” you sigh before you lift your eyes from its body and continue towards the house, noticing not just a few feet ahead another freshly killed infected—someone’s here.
Your eyes flicker up to the house and you just hoped it was Ellie.
*A FEW YEARS AGO*
“We actually have a girl around the same age as you,” Tommy directs to Ellie who sat by herself on the reading chair. “She should be coming from her classes soon.”
“Classes?” Joel questions. “You guys have a school?”
Maria nods her head. “For the younger kids we do, but y/n is learning to become a doctor.”
Ellie heard them talk but she could hardly care, sure she might want friends if staying here was for the long haul, she didn’t want to be alone cooped up in her room, but she hardly cared to meet someone at the moment. She was bored, hungry and frustrated, but perhaps that was the hunger. All she wanted to do was go to her room and see what she could decorate it with.
Yet Joel stayed in his brother's house talking about random things that came up, but Ellie knew that he was waiting for you, the girl Tommy and Maria had mentioned, so she could meet you. But you surely took your time to get to your house, and once you did, you rushed in unaware of the guests in your living room. Albeit Ellie had noticed you first, she caught your muddy shoes in your hand that you tried to hide behind you, she noticed the urgency and panic in your face that she had seen on other people many times. She couldn’t help but wonder what you had done in your nursing classes to have ended with your shoes caked in mud, and for your first instinct once you got to your house was to dart to your room without as much as a glance at the obvious chatter in your living room.
And luckily for you, you got stopped before you could reach the stairs. “Hey, Y/N, wait up.” Maria called out after your fleeting figure.
“Yes?” You ask as you poke your head past the wall, noticing in that instant an older man with hair a deep grey color, and visible scars on his face that only made him appear intimidating and rugged; he also looked familiar, but you’ve never seen him in your life—“oh.” You mouth before your eyes flicker over to a red-headed girl slouched on the reading chair, her green eyes brightened by the sunlight kissing her face while she obviously studied your face. She also looked intimidating, but not as much as the man, and one thing you couldn’t help but notice was that she looked young. Which, you didn’t know if it was a good or bad thing, yet.
“Come over here and introduce yourself,” Tommy waved you over.
You sigh, but don’t argue as to not look suspicious, instead you throw your backpack on the stairs and regretfully put your shoes on top of it, making sure to cover them with your coat before you walk towards the living room.
“Hello,” you greet the man and the girl still on the couch with a faint smile. “I’m y/n.”
“Y/N, this is my brother Joel.” Tommy introduced him as he fell by your side, the new information letting you realIze that, that’s why the man looked familiar, he looked like Tommy.
“Hello.” He simply said in a husky voice that was much deeper than Tommy’s. “Tommy,” he continued as he looked up at his brother beside you. “You didn’t tell me you had a daughter.”
“No,” Tommy chuckled, “she’s not my biological daughter. She’s my adopted daughter.”
Joel nods and then looks back to the girl, motioning her to get up with his hand. She seemed hesitant, but she picked herself up and stood behind him, making Joel step back so he could push her forward and introduce her. “Ah, this is Ellie, and she’s just around your age.”
“Really?” You question as you blink and meet her gaze. “That’s cool.” There's an awkward silence after, with neither of you knowing what to say or do, but Maria seemed to have a good suggestion that only made things more awkward.
“Why don’t you take her up to your room.”
You weren’t children to show each other your toys, but you did need to hide your shoes before either of them saw—“okay,” you say in a feigned calm tone before you walk back and point your head towards the direction of the stairs. “Come on, it’s upstairs.”
Ellie steps forward and you miss the glare she shot Joel before she slowly followed after you, managing to catch you snatch your shoes and other things from the stairs before you ran up and waited for her at the top. Once Ellie reached the top you guided her to your room at the end of the hall and made sure to swiftly throw your shoes in the bathroom, and shut that door.
“So,” you decide to break the tension. “How old are you?”
“Uh, fifteen.” Ellie answers whilst her eyes wander around your nicely decorated room. “You? I mean they say you're the same age as me, but I don’t believe them. I think they’ll say that just to force you to befriend me.”
You scoff lightheartedly and turn to face her once you’re stopped by your bed. “I’m sixteen. I just turned sixteen like a day ago.” You sit on the edge of your bed and catch Ellie focused on the vinyl records all neatly tucked in the shelves, she walks towards the shelf and her lips tugged to a small smile.
“Are these all yours?” She asked excitedly as she looked at you.
“Yeah,” you nod, “I’ve collected some along the years, and my grandpa gave me the rest.”
Ellie’s eyes return to the vinyls to brush her thin fingers over the backs, stopping as she catches sight of a certain album that caught her attention. “Do you have anywhere to play them? Or I mean do they work?”
You drag yourself off the bed to walk to your desk and open the wooden record player. “You can put one on.” You smile as you step back to make room. “To try it out.”
“Are you being fucking for real?” She queried as her eyes met your eyes and you caught a gentle sparkle in them.
“Yeah,” you nod. “Go.”
Ellie doesn’t hesitate to bring an album by “The Clash” with her as she walks to stand by your side, pulling out the vinyl from its sleeve and carefully placing the record where it went. She then set it up and you both waited, hearing silence for a brief second before the sound of an electric guitar began to play, and seconds later a voice began to sing and you recognized the song “Should I Stay or Should I go’ was playing. One of your favorite songs. And it seemed to be hers too because she soon turned up the volume and began to bop her head to the beat, as well as tap her foot as her hands went into her coat pocket and her smile turned to a grin.
You then followed by doing the same head movements as the song played and completely broke the tension between you both. And perhaps it was such a small moment, a small change, but the hostility was gone, neither of you were strangers anymore, but Instead immediate friends.
“Can I ask you,” Ellie spoke up while the song played. “What happened in your medical classes that got your shoes dirty?”
Your eyes widen and you blink to meet her curious gaze, but you don’t hide the truth from her. You smirk instead and reveal the truth. “Yeah, there was no class today. I snuck out with my friends. Just don’t tell Tommy, or Maria.”
Ellie scoffs, and her lips tug to a smirk. “Your secret is safe with me.”
You grin and step back to walk towards your shelf. “Wanna listen to more music?”
“Hell yeah,” Ellie grins.
——
The trail of dead infected bodies led down a small hill that you cautiously followed, even if you weren’t sure who had just killed these infected. For all you knew it could be those people called the Rattlers, that you read about on some letter in one of the empty houses, even if you hoped it wasn’t, the possibility was that it was them. And you could still run, turn back and return home, but you needed to check if it was Ellie first. You couldn’t leave her behind.
So you needed to continue following the path. And as you did. you ended up finding thick green shrubbery blocking the path forward, with the trail of bodies ending a few steps back, so whoever had left it went forward. But when you let your eyes scan the area, you see that an RV and a truck were also blocking the path.
“Hmm.” You slowly walk forward and see a large enough gap between both trucks where you could squeeze through. You were hesitant and anxious in doing so because your peripheral view was limited since you couldn't see much past the truck's gap, but, it was the only way through—fuck—you hold your breath and have your hand tightened around your gun as you slowly walk through.
Once you’re miraculously through and don’t get tackled or suddenly bit, you exhale deeply and feel a wave of relief wash over you, but before the feelings could set in your bones you instantly jump back at the sight of a clicker hanging upside down from its leg. “What the fuck,” you gasp as you clutch onto your chest with your unoccupied hand. The clicker begins to click it’s jaw and manages to push its body forward in attempts to try and get any piece of flesh it could sink its teeth into, but you only stepped back from its reaching hands and then felt yourself bump into something else.
There was no noise, or movement that you could hear behind you, but you still swiftly turned around, only to see the girl you had been looking for. “What the shit…Ellie?!” You gasp again as you feel your whole body grow stiff. You narrow your eyes on her, and besides noticing that she was upside down, you couldn’t help but notice fresh blood dripping down her red, sunburnt face, half of her shirt drenched in the same thick liquid, and her cheeks looked more sunk in than before.
The first thing that should’ve run through your mind was to help her, but your mind kept fixating on wanting to know if she was real, or just some weird hallucination. She looked real, but was she? You snapped from your stupor and stepped forward, reaching out your hand to feel the warmth of her cheeks under our fingertips; she felt real. Next you proceeded to lean in and press your ear close to her lips to hear her slow breaths taken because she was passed out due to the blood that ran to her head because she was upside down. So the answer was that she was actually here, hanging upside down from a tree.
There was an answer as to why she ended up as she was, thus leaving you finally to act out on your plan to help her off the tree. However, when you reached the rope that was tied around a large rock, you caught the sound of footsteps behind you. Thinking it was infected you turn around to get ready to shoot them, but then you see that it was something much worse.
“Drop your weapon and put your hands up, and this might just go easy for you.” A man much shorter than his ponytail wearing companion spoke to you with a certain, annoying cockiness expressed on his face.
You quickly glance at the rope just inches beside you, and then your eyes fall on the switchblade just under Ellie. You think of dropping your gun and then running to get it, but they’d shoot you, or hurt you some other way before you could do damage, so instead you stayed put and did as he said whilst you tried to talk them out of whatever sick plan was on their mind. “Please, just let us go, we'll be on our way out. We just got lost and my friend got caught in this trap.”
The short man approaches you with a smirk and his gun points at you while his companion stood behind him with his weapon on the ready. “We can help you find a way out.” The short man assured you even if it was a lie that you weren’t aware of. “But you have to follow our rules since you’re in our city.” He reaches for your arm, yet as he tries to grab it you kick him back and pull out your gun hidden behind you. You shoot at him, but end up missing after the older looking man he was with shoves you to the floor and steps on your hand until you let the gun go.
“Take her.” The older man instructed, “I’ll take this live one tied up.”
You quickly flip over and reach for a dagger hidden in your waistline, but the guy pulls you up and in a harsh movement twists your arms to your back, and pulls you closer to his chest. “Don’t try anything,” he sneered in the ear. “Or I’ll shoot your friend and then you.”
“Fuck—”
“Abby….” Ellie unknowingly interrupts you, “I found….”
“This bitch is fucked.” The guy holding you remarks about Ellie.
You scoff and squirm in his hold, but he only presses a gun to the back of your head and turns you so you could watch his friend drop Ellie to the ground from where she was hanging, causing her to groan out in pain as she landed on her wounded side. “Ellie!” You bellow, seeing her open her eyes to see the person who had called her name.
It took her a moment to recognize you, to figure out that you were real, but once she did, she could only continue to groan out in the blinding pain she felt shoot out from her bleeding wound.
“We’ll be lucky if she even lasts us a month.” The same guy kept talking, this time however, his comment made your eyes widen out of fear. “Can we please just please just say we’re done for the day?” He continued to ask as he watched the other man untie Ellie.
“Yeah,” the guy agreed whilst he kicked Ellie forward. “I’m going to get that thing down, and let me reset the traps.”
Right! The clicker hanging from the tree—the corner of your lips tug to a smirk and using all the strength you could muster after a long day, you use your legs to throw yourself back, causing the man that had you captive to stumble back towards the clicker who quickly lunged forward in means to bite him.
Nonetheless he managed to get out of the way before the clicker could bite any part of him.
“It get you?!” The friend asked in a panicked voice and with his gun pointing at the guy behind you, who still surprisingly had you in his hold.
The man shakes his head, “No, I’m good.” He then digs his nails in your skin and grimaces after what happened. “You bitch,” He proceeds to also finally tie your hands with some zip tie. “You’re gonna pay for that.”
You snort and just as you’re going to snap back, Ellie beats you to it and begins to laugh. You can’t lie it creeped you out that she did laugh since she was badly wounded, but you let it be, and well it annoyed the guy.
“Something funny?”
“Looks like you shit your pants,” Ellie counters while she struggles to push herself off the ground.
The guy shakes his head and whispers in an annoyed tone. “What you say?”
“What a little bitch.” Ellie continues smugly.
“Oh, you like funny huh?” The guy snaps before he grabs your arm again, cuts off the zip tie and drags you towards the clicker. “Watch this.” He shoves you forward and the clicker begins to reach for you, clicking its teeth as the sound makes it go crazy. You struggle in his hold, and dig your heels into the ground to make it difficult for him to continue pushing you forward, but he’s stronger than you and manages to tear your arm from where it was stiffened to your side to push it towards the clicker's mouth.
“You fucking,” you strain to say whilst you squirm and try to throw your elbow, or foot back. “Asshole. Let me go. Stop!”
“Come on,” the other man protests, “we don’t need this.”
“No, man,” the young man responded amusingly. “They’re fucked up anyway.” He continues pushing your arm towards the clickers teeth until the point you could feel the heat of its mouth on your skin. It was terrifying and heart clenching, your breath became heavy and quick and Ellie wanted to stop him, but she was struggling to get up. You kept trying to fall back, or really just do anything, and miraculously you did manage to get the upper hand after an instant of throbbing pain shot throughout your arm.
You didn’t pay much mind to the pain and passed it off as the man digging his nails in your skin and pressing his rough fingers on your arm, before you ducked and used your strength and weight to swing him to the side and throw the man towards the clicker's arms and jaw. After that he let you go and his friend tried to shoot you, but Ellie quickly grabbed the gun you dropped and shot him first, causing him to fall down on his ass.
“Fuck,” you breathe out as you move away from the clicker and catch your breath on the ground, catching Ellie snatch the guys rifle off the floor and storm towards the other man in means to shoot him.
“Wait! Wait! You said Abby! You’re looking for an Abby right?” The man bellowed as he threw his hands out, managing to make Ellie stop before him. “We picked one up a couple months ago.”
“Yeah sure.” Ellie said, stepping forward.
“Big girl!” The man pants, “blonde. Arms like mine.” He motions, “she had a scrawny kid with cuts by his mouth.”
Your attention focuses on the man and your eyes narrow as your mind pulls out flashing memories of who he was talking about. For a brief second you see and hear the memory of Abby killing…Jesse play out in your head and it hurts far worse than your arm does.
“Yeah, that’s her.” The man says once he notices the realization on yours and Ellie’s faces. “You let me go. I’ll tell you where she is.”
“Talk.” Ellie deadpanned.
“She’s in a holding cell in our camp,” the man obliged.
“Where is that?” Ellie interrogated him further.
The man points past her and continues. “Head up that way til you hit the railroad track. That’ll lead you to a resort. We keep em in the tall, round building.” He groans and Ellie looks back to where he pointed to for a second before looking back at him—“I swear.” Before he could add more Ellie lifts her gun and shoots him once before he goes limp like his friend.
Finally leaving Ellie and you alone.
However the reunion wasn’t a happy one. After Ellie could tear her eyes from the man laying on the floor, she turned to you with a serious expression that expressed no warmth. “What are you doing here, y/n?” She asked bluntly.
You push yourself up to your feet and can’t help but glance at her wound on her side as you answer her. “I came after you.”
Ellie walks past you to collect her switchblade off the ground, but stops as she’s crouched down, turning her head to look at you over her shoulder. “Why? Who told you I left?”
“Dina, told me. After I went for a visit.” You say as you walk and grab a rifle from the man Ellie had killed.
There's a short silence while Ellie stands up, but she’s quick to fill it with the same question. This time in a more demanding tone. “Why are you here?”
“Because.” You stand up and turn to face her, ignoring the pain your arm was under. It felt as if someone was pressing a hot iron on it. “My friends' problems are my problems.”
Ellie’s green eyes quickly snap up to meet your own eyes, and you notice a sadness flicker within them while her lips twitch to almost express a frown, but she holds back and instead focuses on her wound at her side. “Did you come to take me home? Convince me not to kill Abby?” She lifts her shirt and a soft hiss leaves her lips. “Well then let me tell you that you’ve come in vain. She killed Joel, I’m only finishing what she started.”
You scoff. “What she started?!” You storm towards her but she keeps her eyes on her wound. “Ellie, you went after her already. You killed all the people that were with her and it almost took Dina, Tommy and you out with them. The only reason,” you pause when you don’t notice her looking up at you. You crouch down to be at her level. “Look at me.”
Said girl blinks a few times to fight the tears that welled in her eyes before slowly dragging her eyes up to meet your gaze.
“The only reason,” you continue, “neither of you died was because she spared your life. She wasn’t going to bother you anymore, and you came after her. You left your family to come after someone who most likely has not thought of you since she left Seattle.”
Ellie shakes her head. “It’s not that easy to forget what she did!” She stands to her feet and stands just a few inches away. “I can’t sleep, I see him all the time. I see that day, I see her.” She cries. “I need to do this. It’s the only way I will be able to live in peace. I need to do this for….him.” She can’t even muster the strength to say his name, or mention her pain without her voice breaking. Tears wanted to slip past her eyes, but she was strong enough to hold them back for now.
“And what?” You counter with tears of your own while you step forward. “Don’t you think I see Jesse? Don’t you think Jesse’s death hurts me too?” You sniffle and swipe tears off your cheeks. “I see him all time. And not with good memories, but his body after he was shot. It haunts me, even when I’m awake. And I want it to stop.” Your voice quivers. “But even I know this is wrong. Stop this and come home before something happens to you. You know Joel wouldn’t have wanted you to come if it meant risking your life. So come home Ellie, please.”
Ellie steps back and her gaze holds yours for a moment whilst tears roll down the curve of her cheeks this time. She parts her lips to argue, to try and convince you to follow her plan, but she knew you more than anyone, no matter the pain you were enduring after losing the man you loved, you’d never fall as low as she thought she had fallen. She couldn't ask you to stay.
“Just leave, y/n.” Ellie mumbled as she shoved past you.
You turn sharply on your heels and stay put with determination in your own plan. “No. Not if you’re not coming with me.” Your lips twitch.” Wherever you go, I go.”
A sigh leaves Ellie’s lip and with some hesitation she turns with a comment ready to be shot out, but before she could speak, her eyes fall on your arm and they go wide with horror. “Y/N.” She mutters before she rushes towards you and grabs your arm, twisting it a bit and gasping sharply. “You’re….” She pauses and you follow her line of vision down to your arm, instantly feeling your heart sink to your stomach, and feeling all sound cease to exist as you catch the bite mark on your arm. “…bit.”
Request 1: Hey there! I'd really like to see a comforting Gibbs after the reader was kidnapped?
Request 2: Could ya do something with the reader being kidnapped and tortured in captivity for a long time and after she was rescued and came back Gibbs tries to get her to talk about what happened to her so he can figure out how to help/comfort her?
Request 3: May I request something with Gibbs and scared reader? Maybe they’re like trapped somewhere or she’s going under for a surgery? You can decide reader’s fate!
This is a two-part fic. This part is basically full angst, focused on Gibbs and the comforting, healing focus on Reader will come in the second part. I wanted to separate both.
She was supposed to be thirty-five years old today.
And it was one of those very rare days Gibbs didn’t want to get out of bed.
He spent the night working on his boat in the basement, thinking about what his life would be if anything had happened. But he would never know, would he? No matter how bad he wished Shannon and Kelly weren’t dead, how bad he wished you were here with him… all of this happened. And he found himself alone in his basement.
Well, not entirely alone. He had a bottle of bourbon to keep him company, and Fraser, an old black labrador. Your old black lab. Your furry baby, as you used to say.
You rescued it when it was just a puppy, a couple of years before you joined NCIS. So, Gibbs has always known you with this loving thing. At some point, you would even take him to the office and Fraser’s favorite spot was under Gibbs’s desk.
Gibbs never wanted to get attached to the dog. Fraser wasn’t his, it was yours and he respected that. But somehow, you both made your way to his heart.
But only Fraser was still here.
Taking a sip of bourbon directly out of the bottle, his eyes landed on your pet, curled up in the armchair Gibbs put here years ago after you made a remark. “You know, you should put something down here. An armchair or something for people who visit.” You said, while caressing the wood with your fingertips. God did he wish he was the boat at this very moment.
“People who visit never stick around.” He answered, sternly.
“I stick around,” you grinned.
Indeed, you did stick around. A lot. Probably too much.
Would’ve saved him the heartbreak if you didn’t.
A week later, an armchair was down his basement.
With the bottle still in his hand, Gibbs sat next to Fraser and started to toy the blankie. Well, technically, it was not a blankie. It was a tee-shirt. One of yours. The one you left at his house, two years ago.
The top, representing one of your favorite bands, was destroyed now. Fraser chewed it, curled against it nonstop for two years, it was now just some cotton with dog’s hair on it. It didn’t have your smell anymore, it had Fraser’s, but Gibbs never had the strength to take it away from the dog to wash it.
He never had the strength to do much after you disappeared.
When it was clear to the team that you had been taken, kidnapped, abducted or whatever, Gibbs searched for you for weeks, probably mouths. He still does, to be honest, just not 24/7 anymore.
The first weeks, he asked - or actually, ordered - Abby to take care of Fraser. Gibbs was spending all of his time away, looking for you, he couldn’t take care of someone - well, a living thing. The lab tech happily obliged, but Fraser’s health quickly deteriorated. The dog wasn’t eating, or drinking. All he did was lay on the floor, waiting for his mum to come back.
“What, Abby? I don’t—“ not a welcoming way to answer the phone but she didn’t hold it against him.
“I know you’re busy, Gibbs, but I’m taking Fraser to the vet. He’s not okay at all.”
Abby heard her boss taking a deep breath. “Which vet? I’ll be here as soon as I can.”
The dog was clearly letting himself die. Without you, he didn’t see the point of living and Gibbs understood that. If he told anyone what he did after he got Fraser from the vet, they would think he was crazy. Maybe he was, but he didn’t care at this point. He didn’t care about anything, anymore.
Fraser was depressed and there was nothing the vet could do about it. So, they let Gibbs take him home.
And he took him home. His real home; your apartment. Fraser immediately lay on your bed and cried. “You’re reading my mind, Fra.” Gibbs muttered to himself, while preparing a bowl for the pet.
Gibbs had been in your room a few times, but he never paid attention to your stuff. All his attention was on you and your body when it happened. But as he was sitting on the floor, his back against your bed, he allowed himself to take a look around. It was very much you. Minimalist with your touch. He saw your guitar, your messy wardrobe, candles and some Polaroid pictures of people you love. Gibbs never paid attention to those pictures until this moment and one grabbed his attention.
A picture of him. You could see him from afar, aiming to throw a ball. He remembered that night but he never knew you took a picture.
Ziva had invited him to throw a few balls on a baseball field. It was a nice summer night and they had just saved many people from getting blown up. It was also the first night you kissed him. In his basement, you teased him like you always did and ended up with your lips on his. He wasn’t ready for it at that moment, and when he realised what had happened, you were already gone.
Gibbs held the picture in his hand and before sitting back exactly where he was, he went to the kitchen, grabbed what he had prepared and came back.
Fraser was still laying on your bed, his face on your pillow. Gibbs carried him in his arms, the labrador didn’t even fight back or anything. He put him in front of the bowl and Gibbs sat across. “You wanna die, Fra, huh?” The dog looked at him with horrifying sadness in his eyes. “You and me both, buddy. So let’s do this.”
Gibbs put the picture next to the bowl and grabbed his gun and the bottle of whiskey. “I know you know that salmon. Eat it, choke, and when you take your last breath, I’ll pull the trigger.” He said, pressing the gun against his temple.
Fraser is deadly allergic to salmon. When he was a few months old, you fed him some and the reaction was almost instantaneous. Luckily, you took him to the vet right on time for them to save him. “Salmon is banned from the house.” you said on the ride home.
The dog didn’t move one bit. With his face still resting on the floor, he kept looking at the man. Gibbs swore he saw tears in the damn dog’s eyes. “So? Whatcha waiting for? Eat it. It’s good salmon, trust me.” He said, drinking the brown liquor.
If Fraser could talk, he would’ve told him; ‘I may let myself die, but you’re damn crazy.’ Which would’ve been fair.
Gibbs was going crazy. It was the last straw. The last punch in the guts he could take. He had reached his limit.
He was finally letting himself love again and get loved in return. And someone took that away from him. All over again.
He got it, the universe hates him for some reasons. Why would he keep pushing it then?
Gibbs stayed up all night, drinking and waiting for Fraser to eat the fish and die. So he could pull the trigger and end this once and for all.
But Fra never did. Instead, around 5am, the dog went to grab something from the bathroom and put it on Gibbs’ lap. It was one of his hoodies. A hoodie you stole from him. Gibbs buried his nose in it and he could smell you. For the first time in many years, he let himself cry. He cried like a fucking baby, under the watch of your fucking dog.
At some point, he felt that Fraser was trying to nudge his nose in the hoodie too. “We’ll find her, Fra. We have to.”
If Gibbs had killed himself, along with Fraser, it would’ve meant you were gone forever. Because eventually, people would’ve stopped looking for you. They would’ve stopped thinking about you and just pretended you’re dead.
But Gibbs knew you weren’t dead. He knew it deep inside him. Because if you were dead, Fraser would’ve eaten the salmon and he would’ve pulled the trigger.
Laying in his bed, Gibbs turned on his side and found himself face to face with Fraser. The dog was sleeping and snoring. That’s what he does most of his time. Fra was still depressed, but he didn’t let himself die anymore. He eats and drinks the bare minimum. He doesn’t play anymore though. He used to be a happy, playful and loving dog. Now he’s just laying around, waiting for you to come back.
Just like Gibbs.
They both lost weight. Gibbs didn’t even bother to look at himself in the mirror anymore. He hadn’t been to the hairdresser in a while. His hair was longer than it has never been, and his beard was prominent now. You would probably freak out if you saw him like this. You would order him to shave and get his marine haircut back. You would feed him - and Fraser - until they are full. He just wished you were here.
He reached for Fraser’s head and pet him for a moment. “The boat is done and I can’t even offer it to her.” He sadly whispered. It’s been his plan a long time before you were gone. Building a boat after and for you. Now it was your thirty-fifth birthday, the boat was fucking done but he coudn’t teach you how to operate it like he promised.
For the next two weeks, Gibbs would stay in the basement, and stare at the finished product. There was nothing left to do on it, so he just sat behind the wheel, files on his lap and bourdon in one hand. His use of alcohol has never been higher than it is now. You’d scold him if you knew.
Maybe he’s self-destructing, hoping you’d show up and make everything right again. It was stupid, since you didn’t leave on your own. You were taken. Someone took you, and god knows what they were doing to you. This awoke a rage he never knew he had. He’d kill that - or those - person with his bare hands if he ever has a chance.
A month after your birthday, Gibbs was basically falling asleep in his boat, relatively drunk. Fraser was on his lap - he doesn’t realise he’s not a puppy anymore - when the dog shot his head up. “Easy, that’s just Fornell.” Gibbs mumbled, recognizing his friend’s footsteps.
“My two favorite depressed boys.” Tobias greeted them. He gently patted Fraser’s head and looked at his friend. “I need you to sober up, Gibbs. We need to talk about something important.”
“Just say whatever you have to say. I’m not that drunk.”
“Yeah, right.” Tobias grabbed the bottle from Gibbs’s hand and checked how empty it was. But Tobias knew only one thing would make him react, so he went straight to the point. “It’s about Y/N, Gibbs. Get your ass—“
Before the FBI agent could finish his sentence, Gibbs had practically thrown Fraser away. The poor dog looked at him with hurt in his eyes. It was only then that Gibbs saw the file his friend was holding against his chest. He didn’t think twice and tore it out of his grip. Tobias let him.
There wasn’t much in the file, just a picture.
A picture of you.
You looked different, thinner, your hair was shorter and in a completely different color. You looked like a homeless woman.
Gibbs’s jaw dropped. His head was spinning so fast, he needed to sit again. He touched the picture with his fingertips so softly, hoping it was like touching you. A lot of things were going through his mind at this moment, he actually drew a blank. “It was taken two days ago. In Wyoming.”
Gibbs didn’t need more.
Tobias had everything planned before he showed up at Gibbs’s place. One of the FBI private planes was waiting for them, in order to take them off to Wyoming. He had asked Emily if she could dogsit Fraser for a few days, and he even called Vance to let him know he was taking Gibbs with him.
In the plane, he told Gibbs how he came across this picture and all of the info he had, which wasn’t much to be honest. As far as they knew, you were in one city of Wyoming two days ago. Maybe you were gone by now.
But all Gibbs could focus on was that picture. He didn’t take his eyes off it since he opened the file. This was you. You were alive. Whatever happened, whatever the reasons you found yourself here, you were fucking alive.
Tobias looked at his friend. He’ll spend the rest of his life pretending he didn’t see the tear rolling down his cheek. “How you feeling?” He tentatively asked.
“I—I don’t know. It’s a lot.”
“She’s alive. We know it. We’ll find her.”
“I’ve always known she was alive.”
No doubt he did.
It was hard for Tobias to tame Gibbs after they landed. The agent was already barking orders at everybody and anybody, he was ready to organize a fucking manhunt to find you. But the first place they went was where the picture was taken. Gibbs spent hours in the area, while Tobias went to see the local cops. When he tried to check on Gibbs, the man never answered.
In the picture, you were looking at the surveillance camera. You knew you were being watched. You did it on purpose, Gibbs was sure of it. You must have left a clue somewhere around.
You looked scared, someone must have been following you. But he knew from what Tobias said; there wasn’t much more on the video. You were briefly seen and then disappeared, again. “Talk to me, Y/N.” Gibbs thought to himself while looking around.
It was only around noon that it hit him. He finally saw it.
Right there on the graffiti wall.
“Born to lose, live to win.”
Your handwriting. This sentence. Your tattoo.
You must have written this to let him know he should look at this wall. So he did. He studied those graffitis for a long moment, until he saw what he needed to see.
Numbers. GPS coordinates.
He called McGee, not paying attention to the missed calls he had. He gave him the coordinates and Tim gave him an address.
Was that it? The nightmare was finally over? He would go to this address, find you and take you home. Finally.
Fucking finally.
He felt dizzy while running to the address. It wasn’t that far away, and there was no way he’d wait for Fornell or a cab. So, he jogged to this fucking house. When he was standing in front of it, his heart was beating so fast, he thought it would stop.
But he couldn’t die now. He would die after he found you but not now.
He didn’t care about procedures or anything. He grabbed his gun, and let himself in the house by knocking out the door. A man was sitting there, on the couch.
The house was pure filth. The man seemed to be a bit younger than him, and he looked like a psychopath. Which he is, considering he took you.
The man was standing in his living room, his hands up as Gibbs pointed the gun at him. In a flash, Gibbs was standing right in front of the man, the gun pressed against his throat. The man looked scared, he didn’t even try to fight. “What the hell, man? Who are you? What do—“
“Shut your mouth. Where is she?” Gibbs asked, suppressing the urge to beat the man to death right now. That would come later. He needed to find you first.
“Who? There’s no—“
Gibbs’s knee hit him right in his crotch and that bastard fell on the floor. “You’re living the final hour of your life, you better tell me where the hell is Y/N, before I watch life leaving your fucking eyes.”
“I—I—“
Seeing his hesitation, Gibbs punched him. “Where?!” He yelled, but the man stayed silent. “Fine.”
Gibbs grabbed the guy by his collar to put him back up. He was physically impressive, but the adrenaline running through Gibbs’s veins gave him incredible strength. He threw him on the first chair he saw and immediately cuffed him to it. He punched him once more, harder this time.
His nose and lips were bloody, but of course it wasn’t enough. Gibbs fought a lot in his life. To defend himself or to arrest someone, but never, had he been filled with that much rage and anger. He didn’t think twice before his boot hit the man directly in his face, knocking him unconscious. He stared as the man fell on the floor along with the chair he was cuffed to.
He needed to find you. Right now.
No need to be a federal agent to know a psychopath would hold you captive somewhere private.
So he immediately looked for a basement, which he quickly found and he saw the door.
A reinforced door with quite a few locks. Keys. He needed keys that he found in the man’s pocket. Although he was still laying on the floor, fighting to regain consciousness, Gibbs kicked him again, in the stomach this time. He wasn’t holding back his strength one bit. He will kill him anyway.
As he was unlocking the door, his hands were shaking like they never did before. His heart was still pounding in his chest. He still felt dizzy.
He was sure his heart actually stopped when he spotted you on the one-person bed. You were holding your knees against your chest. It was dark, but it was you. You were there, a few feet in front of him. He didn’t even know what to do.
But you did.
When you realised who was standing in front of you, you weakly jumped off the bed and rushed into his arms.
The only thing that kept you alive all this time; knowing that he would find you.
You felt even smaller than you already were. With your arms wrapped around his waist, your face buried in his chest, Gibbs felt you crying.
He slowly wrapped his arms around you, afraid it wasn’t real. Afraid he may hurt you. Afraid you would disappear again. “You found me.” he heard you whispering.
That he did.
A Heart’s a Heavy Burden
Abby Anderson x GN! Reader
Tumblr media
After arriving on Catalina Island, Abby is afraid to let her guard down. She lives with this constant crushing weight on her chest that she fears will never leave her. It’s not until she meets the reader that things begin to change.
Warnings: Copious amounts of fluff, swearing, basically just a lot of cute shit lol
Anon requested one where the reader goes on a hike with Abby and Lev, I hope you guys enjoy (especially if you requested it) <3 it’s been really nice getting back into writing and this request was so adorable aaaa.
A/N: I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted and for that I apologize. In the meantime, I hope this will suffice. Also peep the Howl’s Moving Castle quote I used for the title lol
After the death of her father and that night in the theatre, Abby has come to the realization that pain and suffering is nothing if not inevitable. There has never been a point in time in which an instance of joy or peace is not soon followed by the truest forms of human depravity. When Abby and Lev arrived in Santa Barbara she thought things would be different. She was filled with this brand new feeling of optimism that she thought was long forgotten, and for the first time in forever she had hope.
Then—almost as if some higher being was mocking her for finally letting her guard down—the Rattlers happened, and it all came crashing down. As easily as a sandcastle is destroyed by the tide, that newfound happiness was gone in an instant and that feeling of despair returned once again. She had almost become accustomed to the suffering and heartache that accompanied those short increments of happiness.
So when Abby and Lev arrived on Catalina Island, naturally Abby was incredibly grateful, but she was also fucking terrified. The moment that she stepped onto the shore, Abby vowed to never let her guard down again. She never wanted to see Lev hurt again, especially after everything he’d already been through.
It’s easy to imagine how difficult life can be when every happy moment is squandered by the fear of something inevitably terrible happening. It’s been months on Catalina Island and that normalcy Abby has missed so much was beginning to return, yet she is still afraid. A large part of Abby knows that being captured by the Rattlers isn’t her fault, but nevertheless she still feels this tremendous weight on her chest. Bearing down on her, compressing her into something small.
There is something different about Catalina Island though. Something that makes Abby feel as though—despite everything that has already happened—things will be different here. It’s you.
You were one of the first faces Abby saw when her and Lev arrived on the shore. She had sustained multiple injuries and was suffering from severe starvation and dehydration, Lev the same. You however were in the infirmary for a fractured ankle, and due to the shortage of space she was placed in the bed next to yours.
There was something you noticed about Abby the moment she sat down next to you. You couldn’t quite place it at the time but thinking back, it was definitely her eyes. There was so much pain behind them. You didn’t know why or how you knew, but it was there. Maybe it was because you had seen that same pain in the mirror that sits idle in the darkness of your room, the one covered by a tattered white sheet. It didn’t matter though, because all you knew was that the pain was there, and you wanted nothing more than to show her that life can be okay.
You woke up early today, laying in bed and trying to shake the sleep from your body, you counted the dust particles that floated in the small beam of sunlight that peeked through your window. While you lay basking in the warmth and stillness of your bedroom, you heard a quiet knock on your door. A small voice followed, it was Lev.
“Y/N? Are you awake?”
“Yeah, just give me a sec.” You carefully rolled out of bed before slipping on a hoodie and answering the door.
When you opened the door Lev had a huge smile on his face. “Hi Y/N!”
That was something you really admired about him. Even after everything him and Abby had been through, he was just full of this giddy optimism that continued to wonder you every day.
“Hey Lev, what’s up?”
“I was wondering if you wanted to come on a hike with Abby and I? Apparently there’s something she wants to show you.”
“Of course, I’d love to! Just let me get ready and I’ll head down in a bit.” Just as the words slipped out Lev embraced you tightly. You giggled as he leapt into your arms.
“Awesome! I’ll go let Abby know.” Lev released you from his grip before hurriedly running downstairs.
When you found the two waiting outside your room, you couldn’t help but grin at the sight of Abby and her adorable freckles. She looked so much happier now, having grown her hair out a bit and built up some of the muscle mass she had lost.
“You ready to go?” Abby had her hands hooked in the straps of her backpack as she took a small step closer to you.
“You bet your ass I am.”
As Abby led you and Lev along the shoreline you noticed how her skin was almost glowing. You figured it was most likely a product of all the time she spent helping out in the California sun.
Rather than resting like any normal person would’ve, as soon as Abby was back on her feet, she was desperate to help out as much as she could. Whether it was patrolling the beaches or running the farms, she didn’t care. She just wanted to help.
It seemed like it was a way for her to somehow compensate for being rescued off of the coast, and you wished you could tell her that she didn’t owe anyone anything—that after everything she went through to get here, there was nothing to repay. Of course though, it’s difficult to console someone when they haven’t exactly told you what was troubling them.
The shoreline bordered between an abundance of rocky cliffs and the tide, and the area was littered with lush greenery. Lev walked ahead of the two of you, jumping from rock to rock with surprising ease.
“Be careful Lev! There are sharks in that water you know.” Abby yelled at Lev to no avail. It was sweet how protective she was over him, even though she knew he wouldn’t fall.
You lightly nudged Abby’s shoulder with yours, the warmth of her skin against yours was comforting. You gave her a small reassuring smile. “He’ll be fine Abs, you know he can handle himself.”
Abby sighed, looking down for a brief moment before continuing. “You’re right… I just worry you know.”
“Yeah, I get it. You know, you’re actually pretty cute when you get all protective.” You said it teasingly, but you’d be lying if there wasn’t a small ounce of truth to the words.
Abby smiled, blushing at the comment, but it was difficult to tell in the sunlight. She was grateful the sun had already made her cheeks a light shade of pink. “Shut up.”
It was nice with Abby and Lev. You spent the day burying Abby in the sand on the beach and chasing the crabs that hid under the rocks with Lev. Abby had packed a whole bunch of food in her bag, and the three of you quickly devoured it all.
While Lev was building a shark out of sand, you and Abby laid side by side as you basked in the warm sun. After a bit you felt a shift next to you as Abby rolled on her side, leaning on her arm while she looked down towards you.
“Hey.” Her voice was quiet, soft, similar to Lev’s when he woke you up this morning.
You opened your eyes and nearly melted at the sight before you. Abby was completely shielding the sun from your face which created a halo effect that outlined her entire head. The small strands of hair that stuck out of her ponytail glowed like threads of gold, and you could see clearly now the freckles that danced across her face all the way down to her arms.
You replied with a soft smile on your face as you laid there admiring all the little details of her face. “Hey.”
“Can I show you something?”
You gave her a small nod. “Do you want me to get Lev?” As you began sitting up Abby put her hand on your arm to stop you.
“Actually, I was kind of hoping it could just be us. Is that okay?” There was a small hint of nervousness in her voice and you weren’t sure if it was due to the thought of leaving Lev alone, or if it was from something else.
“I would love that.” The corner of Abby’s mouth curled into a small smile at your answer.
The both of you stood up from the sand, brushing the excess off of your pants. Abby jogged over to Lev and whispered something quietly before quickly returning to you.
When you and Abby began walking away from the beach you heard Lev’s voice in the distance. “Have Y/N back by ten o’clock young man, I have a hunting rifle and I know how to use it!”
Abby rolled her eyes as she yelled back in response. “Yeah, yeah.”
You looked at Abby with a confused face. “He has a hunting rifle?”
“Nah, I think he got it from a movie. I need to stop showing him those old rom-coms.” Abby chuckled as she responded and you couldn’t help but let out a small laugh as well. It’s almost annoying how infectious her laughter was.
Eventually, the two of you reached a long stream of rushing water. It wasn’t too deep, but if you were to fall in, the current was definitely strong enough to swiftly sweep you away.
There was a tiny path of rocks that travelled in a crooked line across the stream, and it was obvious it hadn’t been used in a long time. “Please tell me we aren’t going this way.”
“Come on Y/N, I got you. You trust me right?” Abby didn’t wait for a response as she grabbed your hand and led you across the mossy rocks.
As you reached the last rock, you let out a breath of relief. All you had to do was prop yourself over the log in front of you and you were home free. Carefully, as you reached your arms up to grip onto the ridges of the bark with your fingertips, you somehow lost your footing and slipped. You yelped and nearly fell face first into the jagged rocks below you, but luckily before you could, you felt a strong arm grab your waist. Abby almost on instinct quickly hoisted you up and onto the log just before you fell to your death.
While you laid your body down on the dirty log in an attempt to calm the adrenaline that was coursing through your veins. Abby nonchalantly stood up next to you with a huge grin, acting as if you didn't just see your life flash before your eyes two seconds ago. “See? I got you. Now let’s go.”
You groaned. “Can I get a second? I nearly just died back there.”
“Don’t be so dramatic Y/N, you know I’d never let anything happen to you.” Abby grabbed your hand and dragged you over the log. “Come on, we’re almost there.”
She wasn’t wrong about it not being far (and for that you were extremely grateful). It only took a couple more minutes until you finally reached your destination, and the moment you saw it, you were speechless.
Before you was a small clearing that had a view of the entire island. There were two large trees with ripe oranges hanging from it’s branches, and an abundance of wildflowers that danced in the wind like small fairies. The sunlight that shone through the leaves on the trees reminded you of the small beam of light that you were admiring this morning, except this was a thousand times more beautiful.
“Holy shit Abs.” It was one of the most beautiful things you had ever seen, and to get to see it with Abby was seriously a dream come true.
“You know, if you don’t like it we can always head back.” Abby teased.
“Oh shut up.” You plopped down onto the soft grass beneath you, breathing in the warm air and letting the blades encompass your body. You noticed Abby was still standing and quickly patted the grass beside you “Lay down with me, you gotta experience it from here.”
Abby lowered herself tentatively beside you, and although she tried to hide it, you could tell out of the corner of your eye that her gaze was fixed on you.
Things between you and Abby have always been pretty platonic; sure you guys flirted every once in a while but it never extended beyond that. And as much as you’d like for the two of you to be more, you never wanted to overstep your bounds. You didn’t want to burden Abby with your feelings especially if she didn’t share them, and you definitely didn’t want to ruin your friendship. It was hard sometimes trying to ignore the longing in your heart—trying to ignore the urge to jump into her arms and kiss her whenever she gave you that adorable freckled smile, but you knew it was for the best.
However, with her gaze fixed upon you, and your fingers just inches away, something in you couldn’t help but move your pinkie just slightly in search of hers. It was a small touch. So small it could almost be accidental, but something in both of you knew it wasn’t.
You heard Abby’s breath hitch quietly and nearly pulled your hand back, but then you felt hers move towards yours. Slowly, Abby’s fingertips traced lines against your hand before lacing them together with yours. The gesture was so sweet you nearly melted.
When you turned your head to face her, her cheeks were flushed and her eyes squinted closed like she was waiting for a bomb to go off. It was in that moment that you realized she felt the same longing that you did—that she knew of the ache that occupied your heart, and everything just clicked.
You tightened your grip on her hand as you brought her fist to your lips, planting a soft kiss on her knuckles. The act softened her expression and she opened her eyes to look at you with that damned smile on her face.
Abby propped herself up the same way she had at the beach, looking down at you with those beautiful blue eyes. The wind blew loose strands of hair across her face, and you reached up to brush them behind her ear. But instead of retracting your hand, you rested your palm lightly against her cheek, tracing small circles with your thumb.
Leaning closer, Abby finally broke the silence. “Hey Y/N?”
Your voice was quiet and raspy as you responded with a small. “Yeah?”
She was closer now, her nose against yours and her warm breath fanning across your face. “Can I kiss you?”
You didn’t respond. Instead you closed the small gap with your lips, kissing Abby tenderly. It was the kind of kiss you couldn’t ever explain to anyone, like a dream you couldn’t quite recall but knew was good. It was perfect.
You could feel her smiling against your mouth as she ran her fingers through your hair and down to your chin.
When Abby pulled away she had this stupid grin on her face, and it was easily the cutest thing you had ever seen.
“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that for.” Abby laid back down next to you as she let out a sigh of relief.
As you rolled over to rest your head on her chest, Abby’s arm moved to hold you closer. “You’re kidding, right?” She looked at you, urging you to continue. “Abby, I’ve been waiting to do that ever since you gave me that seashell in the infirmary.”
Your heart swelled as you recalled how nervous she was—how she didn’t say a word to you the entire time there, until that day when she shakily introduced herself. It was one of the sweetest gestures anyone had ever done for you, and you’ve adored her ever since.
Abby blushed when you brought up the seashell. She remembers that day clearly; you were leaving the infirmary because your ankle had finally healed, and she saw her opportunity to meet you begin to narrow. Abby initially wasn’t going to go up to you because she was way too afraid, but Lev had seen the way Abby looked at you and forced her to go over and introduce herself.
He is pretty much the entire reason you and Abby were here in the first place, having given Abby that small purple seashell so she could give it to you.
As you lay there listening to the sound of Abby’s heartbeat you heard a rustle in the bushes nearby and nearly jumped out of your skin. Abby quickly stood up, the both of you backing away from the noise. Reaching for the closest thing to you, you grabbed a stick and pointed it towards the source of the rustling. “Who’s there?”
Relief flooded through you as Lev jumped out with his hands up, screaming sarcastically. “Oh no! Please don’t murder me with that tiny stick.”
While Lev giggled hysterically, both you and Abby groaned.
“So did you guys finally kiss or did all my work go to waste?”
Abby rolled her eyes as she reached out to nudge Lev. “You’re such a goober.”
Lev looked at the two of you suspiciously as he crossed his arms. “You didn’t answer my question.”
Abby gave him an amused face as she reached for you without warning, picking you up bridal style. And you couldn’t help but giggle as she leaned in and planted a short kiss on your lips. Abby then pulled away and placed you back on your feet, looking at Lev as she spoke “Did that answer your question?”
Lev excitedly embraced the both of you with a gigantic smile of his face. “You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this.”
You and Abby looked at each other happily as you answered in unison. “Trust me, we know.”
The three of you spent the rest of the evening in that small clearing. Abby held Lev on her shoulders as he picked ripe oranges from the trees, and when the sun began to set you lay in Abby’s arms as you watched the cascading pinks and oranges in the clouds paint the sky.
While you lay in Abby’s arms she looked at you with a sense of contentment that she hadn’t felt in a long time. Time had healed the wounds that decorated Abby’s arms, and though the emotional baggage still weighed heavy on her heart, life was brighter here with the Fireflies—with Y/N.
She knew in that moment that it didn’t matter if things came crashing down as it almost always did. The pain and suffering of life was worth enduring because Abby no longer feared the inevitable. She had found something to fight for here and as long as she had you and she had Lev, Abby would continue to fight regardless of the obstacles that stood in her way.
Heeey what do you think was that made Kevin finally leave the nest?
I wrote like a 2k word fic-of-an-answer to this one my friend but I wasn’t vibing with it! So I’m starting again. But same thing as the last draft of this answer; I think about Kevin leaving the nest ALL THE TIME
~
(“Keep mouthing off like a pair of fucking frogs.” Riko spat in English to them both. When Jean shut the door, “Do you think you’re better than I am?”
“Your ego will kill you someday.” He looked Riko in the eye. “I think you care too much about other people’s success to make yourself look better. You’re building your Court,” Kevin swallowed hard, still trying to hold his head up, gravity failing him as he started to tremble. “But you think it’s just guaranteed you’ll be on it.”)
Okay.
Let’s. Talk. About. Kevin.
Idk if I’m allowed to say that Kevin is an underrated character. I really don’t think I am. But if I was allowed to say that I WOULD. I am so very passionate about Kevin I would absolutely die for him and he’s not even real. So let’s talk about his hand.
Can you even begin to imagine what was going through Kevin’s head that night? It looked like practice, then The Master talking about potential, then Riko is mad, then pain and blood and how do I get out of here? Then is it worth it if my life is over?
I think there probably was a minute where Kevin sat alone, covered in his own blood, just thinking there was no point in being alive anymore. His playing hand didn’t really look like a hand anymore, his life and reputation and everything he had worked for just pumping out of his hand and staining his shirt. He didn’t remember passing out but when he came to Riko was gone, and his body was running on fumes trying to keep the pain from overwhelming his system. He probably threw up, all over the locker room, his blood trickling through the tiles, the echo of his own screams ringing through his ears like a non-stop siren. He probably couldn’t really see properly for a little bit and he probably couldn’t move for a while, either. Riko was a foot shorter than him, but he made up for that difference by channeling every ounce of anger and jealousy he felt for Kevin into his feet to stomp the shit out of Kevin’s hand until he knew he would never play again. Jean found Kevin not long later, maybe a couple minutes, or an hour. Kevin begged him to get Riko out of his room. Jean wrapped Kevin’s hand up as best he could, and promised him to deal with it as long as Kevin was there when he got back. Jean had figured he was a flight risk, and knew if Kevin left, Riko’s French personal punching bag would come in handy to take out all his egotistical frustration on. Kevin promised he’d be there when Jean came back. Jean came back to his jacket and wallet missing, a tiny scrap of paper left on the bed, an almost illegible ‘sorry’ scrawled across it. He burned it in the bathroom sink before Riko could find it.
So Kevin’s in his car, and he’s driving. He doesn’t know where yet, and man, is he a hazard. Twice on his journey he nearly knocked out behind the wheel, his head bobbing as the pain begged his body to sleep. He probably had to pull over a couple times to be sick, or to have a panic attack, or both. I know he went through the stages of grief on that drive to Virginia. He probably turned on his radio at some point and laughed, how ridiculous he looked, how dangerous it was to be driving one handed. It took him double the amount of time it would normally have because he just. Had to keep stopping. There’s no way he made that journey in a solid drive.
But also I think he probably didn’t have a plan before he was driving. He knew the Southeastern district were holding the Christmas banquet that night, but that was a secondary thought. His first worry was getting out of the nest. His second worry was whether he was going to kill himself or not. The reason he didn’t just do it? David. The thing that pulled Kevin back off that metaphorical ledge was Coach David Wymack. The only other people who knew about his moms letter were Tetsuji, Jean and Riko. Kevin knew well that none of them would be calling up to break the news to Wymack if he died, and David would grow old and die without ever having known that Kevin Day was his son. David was the reason he was risking everything on busy streets and highways and whatever roads he drove too fast or too slow on.
So, he’s in Virginia without a plan. He doesn’t know what hotel David’s in, if he’s even still in Virginia, if the foxes even bothered to show up. So he looks at as many hotels as he could find. He narrows down the list by looking at the ones he knew the Class I teams frequented, and he called the all pretending to be David, looking for his rooms number. After the fifth call he found it.
Think about Kevin’s anxiety in the elevator, hand throbbing, not profusely bleeding anymore, but every minute that passes is a percentage off the chances he has at keeping his hand and playing again. His heart is racing, his head heavy, every fibre in his being screaming.
David calls out a “Hold your fucking horses, give me a minute!” when Kevin knocks on his door a second time after his first knock received no answer. David opens the door with Abby just behind him, and his face falls so quickly it could’ve hit the floor.
“Kevin.” He looks him up and down, not yet noticing the t-shirt covered in blood he had wrapped around his hand. “Kevin Day. Mind telling me what the fuck you’re doing here?”
Abby pushes past him to unwrap Kevin’s hand. It must be some nurses instinct, to be instantly drawn to looking for an injury on a person. Kevin pulled it back as gently as he could, looking up and down the hall before asking so quietly it almost couldn’t be heard. “Can I come in?”
David makes small talk with Kevin as he shuts the hotel door behind him. What would he say? What could he possibly say to superstar Kevin Day, who he’d only officially met as a baby, when his mother was alive and he wasn’t destined for Court? He probably tried to make meaningless, awkward small talk until Abby shut him up to ask Kevin what happened. He just started to cry. Small whimpers into chesty, heaving, heavy cries, his body teetering on the edge of a panic attack. David had seen his foxes in bad ways before. He’d seen one of his kids convulsing on a stretcher after an accidental overdose, or a fox who’d choked on their own vomit after an intentional one. He’d seen his foxes in their worst moments, panic attacks and withdrawals, anger and sadness, pulling their hair out and on the brink of death. Something about this was the same but different. When Seth first overdosed on the team it was a cry for help, or when Janie admitted herself to the psych ward for a week, it was because she wanted to try. When Damien asked for a second, and third, and fourth chance David gave it to him because that was what Foxes deserved. It took him a moment of watching Kevin heave, snot and spit running down his chin, his hair falling over his face, his body shaking with anxiety, to remember that Kevin wasn’t a fox. Kevin was a Raven, and by god, that was so much worse.
I think we all know that Abby cares for her foxes like she’s their mother, but Kevin is just different. Abby had been seeing David long enough to know how much Kayleigh Day had really meant to him, and how much it hurt to watch Kevin do her proud. Now Kevin was sitting in front of her, his hand practically lifeless, his heart pouring out of every place it could. She tried not to look at David’s face as he paced the room, watching her patch up Kevin’s hand as best she could. Kevin only started to calm down when she handed him a bottle of Diazepam and some water.
And then Kevin whispers that Riko did it. David almost didn’t hear him. He nearly asked for him to repeat it until it hit him. Riko did it. Riko smashed the hand of his number two so badly it would take a long time for him to play again, if he even wanted to. Abby sent him a deathly glare when he mumbled to himself; “I’ll kill that little jumped up piece of shit”.
The rest is history; Kevin passes out not long after, David carries him to the bus, and they drive to the stadium to pick up the foxes. Kevin sleeps the rest of the way until the sun is starting to rise and they’re back in South Carolina. Kevin doesn’t stop crying on and off again for a couple days, and Abby had to hold him back from escaping more than once. After watching his anxiety consume him, and when he told her none of the Ravens were allowed to be medicated in any manner, she got him a script for some quick-acting anxiety meds for him to keep. It took him a week of energy-sapping panic attacks before she could convince him to actually take them as he needed them.
David took out a loan five days after Kevin had arrived into his care. He called Edgar Allan on the sixth, and the seventh, and the eighth day. By the ninth day Kevin was released from the grips of Ravens. By the tenth day they had started the process of making Kevin Day a fox. I suppose it’s for the best Riko fucked up his hand so badly, isn’t it? At least it gave him the ability to fit into the eligibility criteria for being a Fox. Welcome to the club, Kevin Day, and prepare to be gravely disappointed.
Abby x F! Reader Mini Series
Warnings: Small bit of angst, violence, this chapter is a little bit longer
Chapter Four; Light Of Our Lives
*A MONTH LATER*
Abby has been such a joy to have in my life. I've moved out of the guest room and into Abby's bedroom, the two of us rapidly growing closer over the past month. We've had a couple little bickering matches over whether I should be doing patrol at three months pregnant, but that's to be expected for any couple worried for their baby. She's been a huge help with the baby, always staying by my side during my bouts of morning sickness and my occasional nightmares. We still haven't told Lev, waiting for my baby bump to get a little bigger before telling him. Lev is such a sweet kid, always energetic and happy. He and Abby are always jabbing at each other with their sarcasm and jokes. I sometimes cut in with my own teasing remarks, usually teaming up with Lev to harass Abby. The other day, Lev and I got up early just to sneak downstairs and hit Abby with pillows while she was cooking. Scrambled eggs ended up all over the floor and she made us clean it up but we all thought it was hilarious.
I sit behind Abby on our bed, braiding her soft blonde hair back as she talks.
"So we fell like a thousand feet through a glass ceiling and into a fucking swimming pool." Abby chuckles, telling me the story of the sky bridges for the twentieth time. It's one of my favorites, I'm always asking her to tell it.
"It was not a thousand feet!" Lev yells from his bedroom across the hall. Abby and I burst into a fit of laughter. "It was like ten!"
"Okay well it FELT like a thousand!" Abby yells back between laughs. "Anyways." She sighs, feeling my fingertips brush the back of her neck lightly as I continue to braid her hair. "I crawl out of the pool and lay there sprawled out on my back and Lev looks at me like I'm crazy! He's just up and ready to keep moving as if we didn't just almost die!" The two of us laugh as I use a hair tie to hold the ends of her braid together. I lean forward, placing a kiss on the back of her neck.
"All done." I mumble against her freckled skin. Abby turns around, pressing a sweet kiss on my cheek.
"Thanks, babe." Abby smiles. "You ready to head out?" Abby and I have early patrol this morning. It's rare we get assigned together since Abby is much stronger so she's usually doing assignments that put her muscles to use. Things like helping out with construction, moving heavy equipment, sometimes even helping people move furniture in and out of homes. When Abby does go outside of the base, it's for a supply run that's in a more dangerous area. That part always scares me, knowing they intentionally send her places with unknown numbers of infected. I know why they do it, though. She's more than capable of protecting herself and her group.
"Yeah." I nod. "Just gotta get my boots on." I stand up, getting ready to leave the room when Abby grabs my wrist.
"Uh, babe?" I look back at her, confused. "What's goin' on with your buttons there?" She asks, referring to my black button-up shirt. I look down, noticing two of the top buttons were missing.
"Oh!" I laugh. "So THIS is the shirt with the missing buttons!" I shrug, searching through the clothes in our closet. I find a grey sleeveless shirt hanging up on Abby's side of the closet. I glance back, seeing her making the bed. I take off my button-up, letting it fall to the floor as I take the sleeveless shirt off of its hanger and pull it on. It's a little too big, but I tuck it into my jeans and it fits a lot better. I pick up the button-up, spinning around and tossing it at Abby. It hits her in the face.
"Hey!" Abby looks over at me with a playful glare before freezing. She points at me. "Is- is that my shirt?"
"Perhaps." I grin, doing a little pose with my hands on my hips. "New fashion statement?" I chuckle. Abby walks over to me, putting her hands on my hips. She pecks my lips lightly. I place my hands over hers.
"You're such a dork." She smiles. "C'mon. We gotta get going."
"Alriiiight." I groan. Abby grabs my hand, pulling me into the hall. "Lev, don't be late for school!" I yell from the stairs.
"I'm never late!" Lev yells back.
"Literally last week!" Abby reminds him.
"Fuck you!" Lev replies as Abby and I laugh. I kneel down by the door, putting my brown leather boots on and tying the laces. Abby watches with a playful smile. I grab my dark blue backpack and bow before looking up at her.
"What?" I question, standing back up.
"Nothing." Abby shrugs. She puts a hand on my stomach. "Pretty soon you won't even be able to tie your own shoes."
"Six more months!" I sigh. "And then this little bean will be the reason we don't get a good night's sleep for years."
"I can't wait." Abby chuckles, following me out the front door. The two of us head to the main gate, spotting a few people waiting around talking with each other. "Get us signed out?" Abby asks.
"If you grab us lunch." I reply,
"Deal." Abby agrees. She lets go of my hand, walking off to the right while I continue forward to the booth. A woman with long red hair and blue eyes looks up at me.
"Oh, hey Y/N!" She greets, setting down the clipboard she was holding. "How're you doing?"
"Hey, Kayla." I smile. "I'm doing pretty great! They've got you workin' at the booth instead of the farm?" I pick up the clipboard and pen, signing my name and Abby's on the sign out sheet.
"Yep." Kayla tsks. "Shawn's sick today so I said I'd fill in. Nice break from being covered in dirt all day."
"And the booth is always shady." I shrug. "I'd say Shawn's got us beat!"
"Got that right." Kayla laughs. I jump when I feel a hand on my lower back. Kayla laughs harder. I don't even have to turn around to know who the culprit is. "Hey, Abby!" Kayla greets.
"Hey there." Abby replies, looking at me with a mischievous grin. "I'd love to stay and talk but the rest of our group is here. We gotta head out." I reach up to fix a loose strand of Abby's hair that's fallen in front of her face. She's a couple inches taller than me so I stand on my toes to make to easier.
"Be safe out there, you two!" Kayla calls as I follow Abby toward the group.
"Will do!" Abby turns around to wave back. The two of us join the rest of the group, piling into the back of a military truck and heading out to the first checkpoint where we'll all split into pairs and take separate routes.
Ten minutes later, we get to the first checkpoint, an old bar. I hop out of the truck, Abby following close behind. We get inside, everyone double checking their gear and partnering up.
"Okay." I sigh, everyone looking to me for instructions. I'm not exactly sure why, but Abby says I'm a natural born leader and that they trust my judgement. I had taken on the role as unofficial team leader without even realizing till she had pointed it out to me a few weeks ago. "Our team's covering the north routes today. The northeast route's been a little more active lately so I want four people to take that one just in case things get hairy. Any volunteers?"
"Mike and I can do it." A woman with brown hair says.
I nod. "Alright. Who's going with Mike and Bonnie?"
"We are." A man in the back says, gesturing to him and his partner.
"Okay, Mike, Bonnie, Chris, and Eric on northeast. Hayley, I want you and Moira to take north, okay?" Moira nods and Hayley holds a thumbs up. "Abby and I will take northwest. Be safe out there, guys. Be smart." With that, we all head off on our routes. Abby follows me, making sure to keep an eye on the treeline. The woods around us are full of life. Birds, deer, squirrels, insects... they all create a beautiful melody; the song of nature.
"Y'know..." Abby starts, pulling me out of my thoughts. "It's pretty hot watching you boss people around."
I scoff, kicking the dirt on the path as I walk. "I don't boss anyone around!"
Abby walks beside me, a teasing smile playing on her lips. "You so do!"
"Shut up!" I shove her playfully. She laughs, lightly shoving me back.
"You love me." She hums, taking my hand and kissing my knuckles lightly.
"I do." I hum back. We walk for a bit longer before we reach the first lookout, a gas station attached to a mechanic's garage. We sit and talk for a few minutes, writing in the sign in notebook that there were no signs of infected. After dawdling long enough, the two of us make our way to the second lookout. Ten minutes into our journey, I spot something moving in the trees.
"To our right." I whisper, both Abby and I ducking behind a bush and aiming our guns toward the movement. Just as I'm about to move up closer to try and get an angle, I hear maniacal screaming. I spin around to see a runner charging at me. I have no time to react as I'm shoved violently to the ground with the runner pinning me down, using all of my strength to keep the runner from biting me.
"Y/N!!" Abby screams. Before she can shoot the runner, a second one comes out from the trees. Abby quickly shoots that one before rushing back to my side and ripping the runner off of me. "You motherfucker!" She growls, slamming the runner to the ground and crushing his skull with her boot, the blood splattering on her and me. I lay there frozen, feeling like the wind got knocked out of me. "Shit!" Abby whisper yells. She kneels down beside me as I gasp for air. "Are you okay? Did it bite you?" She's panicking, frantically searching for any sign of injury. I grab her forearms, keeping her from moving them.
"I'm okay, Abby." I assure her when I catch my breath. "I'm okay." Abby grabs my shoulders, helping me sit up.
"Oh shit, your head is bleeding." Abby says, seeing the blood drip down the back of my neck. I feel the warm, sticky crimson flow down the back of my shirt. "We gotta get you back."
"The baby." I whisper, feeling lightheaded as Abby hands me her bag and gets in front of me, helping me onto her back. "We gotta check on the baby."
"We will, sweet girl." Abby says, walking as fast as she can while I cling to her like a little backpack. "Just hang on." I rest my head on her shoulder, closing my eyes as she carries me all the way back to the checkpoint. From there, she uses the radio to call an emergency pickup. She leaves a note for the rest of the team before helping me into the car and telling the driver to get us back as fast as possible. The car ride is a blur. I lean against Abby while she presses her jacket against the back of my head to keep me from bleeding out. I keep my hand on my stomach the whole time. Finally, we get to the infirmary. A nurse cleans me up and stitches the back of my head, giving me water and crackers to help with the dizziness. When I tell her I'm pregnant, she immediately understands my concern and checks the baby's vitals and preps me for an ultrasound.
"Ultrasound?" I ask as the nurse moves the hem of my shirt up to the edge of my bra, exposing my tiny bump. I've never heard anything like that before.
Abby takes my left hand in hers, squeezing it lightly. "It's kinda like a camera." She explains. "It's so they can see the baby. I read about it in a book." As I'm looking at her, I feel something cold and sticky being rubbed lightly on my stomach. I flinch, looking back at the nurse who is applying a clear jelly-like liquid to my stomach. Abby immediately senses my panic, leaning down to press a kiss to my temple. The bed creaks beneath her as she moves. "It's okay." She mumbles against my temple. "It's just to help the camera." I take a deep breath, sighing as I nod, letting Abby know I'm okay. I peck her lips lightly before she sits back up.
"You two make a cute couple." The nurse says, reaching for what I assume is the camera. Abby thanks her as I laugh a little. "You ready to see your baby?" I nod eagerly, Abby doing the same. The nurse presses the camera against my stomach lightly, moving it around as what looks like static appears on the camera. "There." She says finally, holding the camera in one spot. "See that little blob that's kinda shaped like a bean? That's your baby." I gasp, suddenly feeling tears running down my cheeks.
"Abby." I whisper, staring at the little being on the monitor. "Are you seeing this?" I hear Abby sniffle, looking up to see her crying, too.
"That's our baby, honey." She sniffs. I take her other hand in mine, squeezing both of them. "That's our tiny human in there." She's just as amazed as I am.
"It's perfect." I say, laughing a bit at our reactions. The nurse simply gives a proud smile.
"The baby's perfectly healthy, no sign of injuries." The nurse says. Abby and I feel immediate relief. "If you want, I can print out a picture of it for you. This old equipment still works pretty well.
"Absolutely!" Abby says, barely waiting for the nurse to finish her sentence. The nurse cleans off the gel, prints out a photo of our baby, and hands it to me before Abby and I head out to go home. The entire walk home is spent gushing over the photo, feeling like a warm, beautiful light is shining down upon us. When the two of us get home, Abby closes the door before grabbing my face and kissing me hard. My hands instinctively move to her cheeks, my eyes closing as I feel Abby's lips on mine, curving into a smile. She pulls away, leaving me breathless. "You are incredible." She says, only loud enough for me to hear. She strokes my cheeks with the pads of her thumbs. "I love you... so fucking much."
"I love you too." I whisper, pressing my forehead against hers. She kisses me again, this time gently, as if I might break if she kisses too hard. She pulls away after a few seconds, taking my hand and guiding me into the living room. I sit beside her on the couch, my legs resting across her lap and my body leaning into hers. We sit there in peaceful silence, Abby and I staring at the photo of our baby while she rubs gentle circles on my stomach with her warm hand. Just as I'm about to fall asleep, the front door opens.
Oh Baby Chapter 7
Shoutout to the lovely @gibbsandpridegirl for brainstorming and co writing this with me
Series Masterlist Masterlist
——————-
Gibbs walked up to the officers who were trying to get the man, claiming to be Amelia’s grandfather, under control.
"Sir, do you live here?" one of the officer's asked as he approached.
“NO, but the little girl this man is yelling about is my daughter." Gibbs said, trying to take his anger but still glaring at the man.
"SHE IS NOT! "the man yelled.
The officers tried to pull the man back as he lunged at Gibbs. He swung, and if his target weren’t Gibbs he would have done some damage, but the marine and agent dodged in time and caught the man’s arm, twisting it around his back and handing him over to one of the many officers that were now there.
"I'll get her back. don't get in my way agent. you and that bitch of a wife of yours." "what the hell did you say?" Gibbs asked, hating how much he knew about his family. "She's awful pretty... that wife of yours especially when she goes on her little runs in those pink shorts." He sneered as the officer yanked him further away.
Gibbs was fuming as her turned to another officer.
"He's stalking m family.”
"we'll take him in, book him'.'
"after I see my daughter im coming down to talk to him!" Gibbs grunted.
"Sir!” The officer warned, and Gibbs realized he hadn’t IDed himself as an agent yet.
"agent" he says flashing his badge.
The cop nodded in understanding and joined his partner to discuss the situation as the other car took the man who was stalking the Gibbs family away.
"Gibbs, thank god. I'm so sorry we had to call you" Josh said shaking his hand.
"glad you did, you okay?" Gibbs said, looking around for any sign of Amelia. josh nodded and appeased him.
"Ami's upstairs with my girls. I'll get them." "Thanks for keeping them safe Josh." he said patting his arm.
"Poppa!"
Amelia yelled as Andi carried her back downstairs followed by Rylie in Josh’s arms.
"hey baby girl. I'm here. I'm here." He cooed as he scooped her out of her arms.
"I scared."
"I know princess but youre safe." He said.
"momma?" the little girl asked.
“She's on her way home. lets call her okay?" Amelia nodded quickly. The phone rang once before Y/N picked up.
"J, tell me she's okay."
"She' a just fine right meali?" "MOMMA
"Amelia squealed
" Hi baby" I Can't wait to see you. can you go thank aunt Andi-pants for me?" she asked
"Otay luv you momma." "I love you baby; she sniffed.
"J"
"he's in custody. They've been stalking us"
"well his wife is now on the run. The lawyer said she called to drop the charges minutes ago & said they’d ‘solve the problem on their own." "Shit" "we can't let this happen J!"
"i’m not letting anything happen to our family Y/N. Go straight to NCIS don’t stop for anything. I’ll get them set up with protection here and meet you there with Amelia.”
“Okay” she sniffed
“Sweetheart I’m not going to let anything happen to either of you, you know that.”
“I know, I just- god I need to be in your arms with Amelia right now.”
“Soon baby”
Gibbs caught up with one of the officers and had him stage at the house until he could get an agent there. He wrapped his daughter up his arms and kissed her head before tucking her In Her car seat.
“We’re gonna go see momma!”
“MOMMMMMA!” Amelia squealed and even in the panic in his chest, he couldn’t help but smile.
When he got to NCIS he was relieved to see Y/N already sitting in his chair, nervously biting her nails.
“Hey” he said trying not to startle her.
“Oh that god!” She huffed as she jumped up and wrapped her arms around him and Amelia.
“God I missed you” he said breathing in her scent.
“I missed you too! And you” she cooed at Amelia.
“Meals how about you go play with Abbs?” Gibbs said before Y/N stopped him.
“I really don’t-“
“In our secure conference room with a guard on the door.” He whispered to her
She nodded and let him pass her to Abby.
“I lm scared” she whimpered against his chest as he pulled her in.
“I know, I’m not letting anything happen to you.”
“Or yourself?” She sniffed.
Gibbs looked down at her.
“Promise?” she pushed
“Promise.” He said kissing her. “Always”
That, Gibbs had noticed, always calmed her, when he promised her always and he noticed it calmed him as well.
“Boss we’ve got a problem” McGee said as the team came in.
“What” Gibbs answered and y/n felt all of his fear and worry turn into a wall of anger to block everyone out.
“Mr Cobb, the man claiming to be Amelia’s grandfather just escaped.”
“WHAT?” Gibbs yelled and felt y/n flinch against him he took her hand gently as a silent apology.
“We aren’t sure what happened yet but he’s gone...”
Y/N went up to the conference room with Amelia while Gibbs and the team worked on the case. It was getting harder and harder for Gibbs to keep his cool however. And more and more difficult for y/n not to try to help in the case. When Abby came back up to play with Amelia, y/n took a moment to go check in. As she rounded the corner she heard the tell tale grunt of anger from her husband and a loud crash.
DiNozzo had just informed Gibbs that a threat had been called in against him, y/n, and Amelia and that it would be best for them to go into protective custody until the case was solved. He couldn’t hold in his emotions anymore and they all came out in the form of a growl and his stapler flying across the room to Tony’s empty desk.
Y/N ran up to him, knowing she was the only option to calm him when he was like this, her or Amelia, but he didn’t like Amelia seeing him so angry.
“Hey, hey” she whispered as she took his hand and guided him to the elevator.
She felt him relax a bit but knew he would argue “y/n I gotta-“
“You just murdered a staple Jethro... you need a minute.” He huffed and let her pull him into the elevator, flipping the switch to stop it himself and pulling her in to a tight hug. She hugged him back and heard a small sniffle, that she knew meant he was tearing up.
“Baby what’s going on?”
“There was a threat... you need to go into protective custody, you and Amelia.” He said, letting his tears go free for a moment.
“Are you coming with us? She sniffed as she wiped his tears.
He frowned. “Y/n you know I can’t with these people out there, I need to get them.” She nodded and held his face as he tried to stop more tears . “B-but I don’t think I can let you go alone. I made that mistake on-“
“Hey” she cut him off. “This is not that. That was not your fault and neither is any of this. I know you’d be our detail of you could... but it’d be silly to have one of the people being threatened doing the guarding, so how about the next best thing?” She asked and smiled at his confused look.
“Have Ziva be our detail. This isn’t your case anyway, Vance is letting you work it because he knows you won’t take no for an answer and family is first, but you know you’re going to have extra cops and agents, so have Ziva be our detail... and set us up somewhere that isn’t through normal Channels. I you know we’ll be okay!”
He nodded and pulled her into a kiss. “Maybe you should head this investigation.” He smiled
“Oh no your Poppa bear anger is going to be needed on this one!” She smiled.
“I won’t be able to call, I’ll check in with Ziva but we probably may not be able to
She nodded sadly “I hate this” she said
“Me too, god I’m gonna cry saying goodbye to meals and she’ll know somethings wrong.”
“So we tell her the truth, not everything but that we have to go away for a bit to stay safe, it’s not a bad thing to show our daughter that you have emotions. I’ll be blubbering like a baby when we leave. But it isn’t goodbye! We’ll be together soon” she sniffled and he pulled her into another hug.
“Me no leave Poppa!” Amelia cried when her parents explained that they had to go stay at uncle Tony’s with aunt Ziva for a while. First she said “my Ziva!” And the. She frowned and asked if her poppa was coming with them.
She pouted at the answer and cling to him. Y/n saw the tears form in her husband’s eyes as he hugged his daughter. She mouthed “we’ll be okay” to him and scooped her family in a hug.
“I know we’ll miss Poppa baby, but he is keeping us and other people safe. And we get to have a little sleep over. And we’ll be back with daddy in No time.”
“Why daddy no come wife us?”
“I have to catch the bad guys princess, but I love you so much. You be good for momma okay?”
She nodded sadly and grabbed her dad’s face.
“I luh you poppa! ou our hero! Momma and me see ou soon!”
“I’ll see you both soon baby girl.” He whispered through tears and kissed her head and then Y/N’s.
“We love you J! Be safe please?”
“You too. Please” his voice broke and he leaned their foreheads together.
“Always. We WILL be together soon!”
It had been a few days since the girls when into protective custody and Y/N was woken up again by a screaming Amelia.
“Meali what’s going on?” She cooed scooping her up from the pack and play they were using as a crib and taking her back to the bed.
“Me want poppa! Me want poppa!”
Y/n sighed and whispered ‘me too baby, me too. He’s keeping us safe and he loves you!”
“We talk to him?”
“He’s busy bug, well hopefully he’s sleeping right now” she sighed knowing he wasn’t.
“Stay?” She asked
“Ofcourse we can snuggle here.”
“Poppa blankie!” She shrieked.
“Oops can’t forget that!” She chuckled and scooped her out of bed to get the shirt of gibb’s that she snuggles to sleep. Like mother like daughter y/n thought as she snuggled into her husband’s tee shirt and sweatshirt she wore to sleep.
The next morning y/n woke to a snoozing Amelia next to her, all curled up with Gibbs shirt and a little smirk on her face that reminded her of her husband’s.
She smiled and took out her camera. She couldn’t have her phone with her so she’d been using her old digital camera that she’d stashed in a junk drawer and grabbed while packing. She had been taking photos of her and Amelia so Gibbs didn’t have to miss anything, even if it was (hopefully) not much longer.
She had sent Ziva for scrapbook stuff and her and Amelia were working on a ‘poppa project’ to keep them busy.
Amelia woke up slowly and cooed quietly. “Momma” she said snuggling into her.
“Me miss poppa”
“Me too love”
“Poppa luh us lots”
“He sure does”
“We work on poppa project?” Amelia perked up making Y/N smile.
“After breakfast!” She smiled
A few hours late, they were sitting on the floor working on the scrap book when Amelia suddenly broke into tears. “Poppa blankie!!!!!”
“Okay baby I’ll get it”
“It no here!” She squealed.
“Okay I’m looking!!!”
Amelia was right it was no where to be found. After hours of searching and distracting her from tears, y/n finally got her to settle by putting Gibbs sweat shirt on her and wrapping her up like a little burrito. She giggled and sniffed the sweatshirt and snuggled into her momma.
“Momma snuggle?”
“Sure baby, let’s snuggle and watch a movie?”
She nodded and they both say “Moana” at the same time.
Y/n was released when Amelia was finally snoozing against her when she heard the door open. She heard Ziva’a cue that it was her and she didn’t have to worry and whispered “shh finally got the chipmunk to sleep.”
“Rough day?” She whispered
“Mhm” y/n groaned “can’t find ‘Poppa blankie’ it’s been an afternoon that’s for sure.’
“That might be our fault” she said and signaled near the door and Abby stepped out from begins the wall with an adorable rebbe bear, clearly made from Gibbs tshirt.
Y/N felt tears spring to her eyes.
“You! You made this?” She said and took the bear with the hand that wasn’t on Amelia.
“Yeah it was ziva’s idea and I did the sewing.”
“Thank you!” Her voice cracked and she settled the bear next to Amelia, smiling as she noticed how much it smelled like Gibbs.
As soon as she put the bear near Amelia her little arm shot out and she snuggled it close to her. Her eyes crack open when she smelled the bear. “Poppa blankie?” She asks, y/n smiled at the way she resembles Gibbs when she’s confused.
“Ziva and abbs made Poppa blankie into a Poppa bear!” She smiled as Amelia snuggled the bear and looked up at her ‘aunts’ “sank ou!” She squealed and blew them kisses as she snuggled the bear!
“Can I take a picture? I won’t send it to anyone I just want to show Gibbs.”
“Yeah that’s fine, they don’t know about you or I just the Gibbs’.”
“Can you print us a copy for our Poppa project?” Y/N smiled and hugged Amelia as Abby agreed and took the picture.
Y/N set Amelia and her Poppa bear down and walked Abby out. “Thank you both so much” she said through tears.
“We brought you something too” Ziva said and looked and Abby and nodded.
“Abbs?”
Abby smiled and pulled out a letter and one of gibb’s hoodies from her bag.
“He wrote you this, and told me to have you swap sweatshirts so this one smells like him, but since lil Gibbs is all wrapped up in that one I’m sure he won’t mind you having both for now.” She smiled and held the sweatshirt to her nose.
“Thank you”
“He sent this too”
It was a little wooden heart. She could tell the it was hand carved and smiled as she turned it over. All 3 of thier initials were carved in the back with the word ‘always’ she teared up and smiled as she put held the heard close to her chest and went to get the note she had written him.
“Please tell him I love it. And that we love him? I know that’s a weird thing to make you do but.”
“Not weird at all! I’ll tell him!”
“Thank you!” She whispered as she hugged her.
“And you!” She said turning to Ziva after Abby had left. “You back on duty?”
Ziva shook her head. “Nah but i figured you wouldn’t mind me camping out here? I’ll feel better.” Y/N breathed a sigh of relief, she had been dreading the first night that Ziva wouldn’t be the one watching over them.
“We will too, come on” she said pulling Ziva to finish the movie with Amelia.
Gibbs was sulking over a file at his desk when Abby walked in.
“Um... Gibbs?”
“Yeah abbs”
“Sorry to interrupt but um I saw y/n and Amelia today”
His face softened and he got a bit of a sad look in his eye.
“I took this picture for you” she said handing him the framed picture of his girls with ‘poppa bear’
He smiled and gave a soft laugh.
“Thank you for this” he said with teary eyes.
“She like the bear?”
“Loved it, wouldn’t let go of it and y/n loved the heart and says they love you. “
He nodded, eyes not leaving the picture.
“Y/n sent this”
She said giving him the envelope and noticing it felt heavier than a letter.
He opened the envelope to find the necklace Amelia and he had given her for thier first Mother’s Day.
He picked up the note and smiled through tears as he held onto the chain.
‘My sweet Jethro, you know I never take this off. But right now all I can do is hang on to the things I know mean a lot to you while we’re away. . Like your hoodie, your notes, pictures, and your Amelia. Sweet Amelia with your glare and smile and sass. Her and I love you more than you could ever know and that’s why I’m lending you this necklace. The first gift I got as a mom. Whenever I hold onto it I think about how much love and luck lives in our little family. I hope it brings that to you too. Please know that we love you and we can not wait to be back in your arms. You’re daughter is as cranky without you as you are with out coffee. I love you Jethro, and so does our daughter. Stay safe and promise you’ll see me soon and love me always.
Love always,
Your Y/N
Gibbs was holding back tears as he clasped the chain around his neck and tucked it under his shirt.
Over the next few days both Gibbs, and Amelia (and even Y/N) grew crankier and crankier. Everytime he started to get upset, he’d place his hand over y/N’s necklace that was tucked under his shirt and just think about his girls.
He was currently drinking his coffee and looking at a picture of his girls when his phone rang and showed ziva’s name. He panicked knowing she was on y/n and Amelia duty.
“Ziva, what’s wrong? Everything okay?”
“Everything is fine gunny” he heard Y/N’s voice and his breath caught
“Y/N” he whispered
“Ziva said there was no threat of them tracing calls from her phone to yours so I begged”
“I’m glad you did, I miss you”
“God Jay I miss you so much.” She said through tears.
“Baby don’t cry.”
“I can’t help it, I miss my man” she whispered.
“God I can’t wait to hold you”
“Me either.” She sighed “someone is impatiently waiting for me in the bedroom, would you like to say hi”
“God, yes. I’m glad everyone went home because if I wasn’t crying now as soon as she-”
“POPPA!?” Amelia’s squeal interrupted him and he couldn’t fight back his tears anymore .
“Hi princess! I miss you so much!”
“Me miss ou poppa! Me luh ou! Me hug poppa bear and -nuggle momma cause she no seep wifout ou!” She babbled.
“I’m so glad you’re these to take care of momma for me” he rasped out.
“She get sad and me too but den we -nuggle and work on poppa project and we okay!”
Gibbs winced at the idea of y/n being so upset but smiled at the strength of his girls.
“You are both so strong, you and momma are being so brave for me”
“We see you soon?”
“Yup as soon as I get the bad guys!”
“Me miss poppa sing”
“How about I sing you to sleep?” He smiles as he hears her cheer and clap. “You and momma all tucked in?”
“We sure are” y/n says as he hears Amelia’s little yawn.
The girls curl up together and listen to Gibbs sing until Amelia falls asleep. Gibbs and y/n talk for a while longer until gibbs phone rings with a call from McGee.
As much as Gibbs hated ending the call, it was worth it when McGee told him there was finally a breakthrough they needed. By morning, of things went right, Gibbs would have both his girls back in his arms.
Y/N woke to a knock on the bedroom door. It was the Ziva knock so, she knew she didn’t have to open it prepared for an agent she didn’t know. But when she opened the door it wasn’t Ziva in front of her, it was her husband. Tears ran down her face and she launched into his arms. He curled his arms around her and whispered how much he loved her in her ear.
She pulled away just enough to capture his lips in a passionate kiss. Needy in the sense that it was their first kiss in over 2 weeks but loving and PG enough that they remembered where they were.
They pulled away and held each other again and y/n whispered, “I never want to let go of you but we have a little girl who hasn’t been woken up by her favorite person in far too long.”
He smiled and nodded with tears in his eyes as he kissed her forehead and then carefully walked over to the bed. He kneeled down in front of her as y/n sat on the other side.
He stroked her cheek and whispered “good morning meali moo” as he leaned over to kiss her.
She woke with a gasp and yelled POPPA! As her eyes filled with tears to match her parents and she threw herself at her father, clinging on to him.
“I missed you baby”
“Me luh you poppa!”
“I love you too! And your momma!” He said as he sat on the bed and curled his free arm around his beaming wife. Thankful to finally be safely back with his family.
“How’s your Dad doing kiddo?” Jase asked as he pulled his god daughter into his arms.
“Same as before,” Leigh sighed, resting her head against Jason’s shoulder as a few tears spilled from her eyes.
“And how are you doing?” He asked.
“I just feel numb,” Leigh whispered, as the tears started falling more “I don’t know what to do with Dad, he has completely shut everyone out. I just feel lost Uncle Jase, I need my Dad more than ever now but he’s just so shut off”
“Your Dad has always been a stubborn shit,” Jase half laughed, trying to lighten the mood. “You leave your old man to me okay. But try and get some sleep okay, I’m here if you need me.”
Jason watched his god daughter slowly walk out of the room, roughly wiping her tears on one of Clay’s hoodies. Running his hands over his face, he let out a muffled scream. Clay was going down the same road he went down and if he wasn’t careful he was going to lose his little girl as well.
But Jase knew that this was the hardest thing for anyone to deal with, and he had first hand experience, he wished he didn’t but you can’t change the past.
Tumblr media
There were no more tears left to cry, all that was left was sore eyes, a heavy heart and a pain that felt like it was crushing him. It had been two months since one of the worst days of his life. He knew he should have followed you and maybe if he did you wouldn’t have ended up taking a bullet in the chest.
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t shake the memory of that night, the bitterness that was in the air, the warmth of your blood on his hands, the feeling as you took your last breath. He remembered it like it was only yesterday.
You weren’t meant to have been spun up, but the order came from upper brass, so you couldn’t fight the decision. And was pulled off Green Team training to be spun up with Bravo, on a mission that would change everybody’s life.
Upper brass saw it as mission success but to Bravo it was mission failure, they didn’t care they got their HVT, they lost a member of the family that day.
There's a dress in the closet that I just can't throw away. I know it might sound crazy, but I haven't changed your pillowcase. A heart half full, or half empty. Is half gone either way, with you gone. What went wrong?
Pushing himself to his feet he opened the wardrobe for the millionth time, running his hands over your clothes he knew he needed to go through them but he just couldn’t bring himself to do it, he carried on until he landed on the one dress. Running his fingers across the white lace, more tears started to fall as he remembered the day you got married. One of the happiest days of his life.
Everything was too much for him now, he hadn’t showered or shaved in weeks, he wasn’t eating properly and the pile of whiskey bottles were piling up in the corner of the room. Everything was falling apart and his relationship with his little girl was taking the hit.
Throwing himself back onto the bed, he nuzzled his face into your pillow, taking in the smell of your shampoo, it wasn’t as strong anymore, but it was still there.
Maybe the hardest part is that we didn't break this heart. Nobody cheated or lied. I still have to live with goodbye. But how can I just move on? I've loved you for way too long. I don't want to admit that you're gone. I don't wanna write this song.
Everywhere he looked things reminded him of you, the whole house was full of memories, the base, the cages, the plane, the base at J-Bad. He couldn’t escape but he didn’t want to.
All he wanted to do was to hear your laugh, see your smile, hear you sing badly whilst cooking, feel your arms around him. But none of those things would ever happen again. You were taken too soon.
The heartbreak was killing him, this was the hardest goodbye he had ever had, he knew you would want him to move on but how could he, you were his life, his everything. Your relationship stood the test of time, childhood sweethearts. And it even stood the numerous deployments and spin ups.
He didn’t want to admit you were gone. That he’d never be able to hold you again.
Another glass of whiskey, by your picture in a frame. I'm playin' all the black keys. And cryin' out your name. I'm holdin' on, or lettin' go. It's gonna kill me either way. With you gone. Bobby pins on the dresser. Wilted flowers in a vase. I left a rose on your headstone. I never quite know what to say.
After months Clay finally showered and left the house, he felt like he was being suffocated in his own home. He hadn’t seen his daughter for weeks. The last time he saw Leigh they got into an argument and she stormed out of the house.
He knew she was safe and was staying with Jase but it didn’t make it hurt any less. His little girl was hurting just as much as he was and he wasn’t by her side.
Slumping on the grass, the leant against the pure white headstone. The red rose he placed on the top stood out against the brightness of the marble.
“I don’t know what to do babygirl,” he sobbed, picking at the grass beneath him. “I’m so lost without you,”
“Dad,” a small voice came from in front of him.
Looking up to see Leigh standing there, tears threatening to fall, she looked just as he felt. This was the first time he took a good look at his Princess, even though it was hard. She was the splitting image of you which made things harder for him.
“Come here baby,” Clay whispered, opening his arms.
Leigh didn’t need telling twice as she curled up in her Dad’s arms, just like she used to growing up.
“I’m sorry baby,” Clay sobbed, nuzzling his nose in her daughter's hair. “I’m sorry for everything, for pushing you away, for being the worst Dad ever and for not being able to protect your mum.”
“Dad, stop,” Leigh sniffed, “Stop blaming yourself, please.”
“I just wish your Mum was still here,” Clay cried.
“Me too Dad, me too,” Leigh cried. “But we will do what Mum would do, we will get through this as a family. It might take time but we need to be each other’s strength.”
“Why are you so wise?” Clay whispered, kissing Leigh’s head.
“I got my wisdom and brains from Mum,” Leigh half laughed.
“You sure did baby,” Clay whispered, cracking somewhat of a smile for the first time in months.
The two of them sat there on the grass by your graveside, silently crying as they grieved the one person who could never be replaced.
Maybe the hardest part is that we didn't break this heart. Nobody cheated or lied. I still have to live with goodbye. But how can I just move on? I've loved you for way too long. I don't want to admit that you're gone. I don't wanna write this song.
