...it was really, really good, even reheated in the office kitchen or left on the countertop as I bustled about, working from home.

Honestly, I have yet to encounter a recipe from America’s Test Kitchen that isn’t good, easy to understand, and most importantly, flexible---I have Jamaican beef handpies in the freezer, I’ve left pastry proofing for forty-eight plus hours; even in the recipe below I basically kept stirring and adding pasta water until the cream sauce was exactly the consistency I wanted, no measurements required. I love a recipe so durable that you actually can’t fuck it up, unless you have truly no knowledge of cooking at all, in which case: sorry and also, thank you for supporting the takeout economy.

I FINALLY GOT A NAME FOR MY SPIDERSONA

SPIDER-SPECTRE LETS GOOOOO

(were you expecting a drawing of the spidersona? you were wrong. i cannot draw. you get to hear me ramble talk about her instead.)

i was going to name her spider-ghost but gwen's already ghost spider, so that's out. then spider-phantom was considered but someone else already took that. so spider-spectre! (i also like the alliteration. its fun.)

she's based off those zombie spiders. yk the ones. the ones where their brains are taken over by fungus and they're half dead half alive. their bodies and limbs are all white and swollen. yeah. those ones.

name: Valerie Hanh Duong, nicknamed Val

ethnicity: vietnamese-american

sexuality: biromantic-demisexual

canon event: her uncle stephen and her were driving to her school when they got into a car crash. both were fatally injured, but as she was dying, she was bitten by her dimension's radioactive spider. which was also half-dead. it was a radioactive zombie spider. when she was bit, she turned into a ghost (or, a spectre) and dropped her physical body.

she's undead, she can't die unless she's exorcised, but since nobody knows that she's a walking zombie ghost thing, nobody's tried it yet. she can walk through walls, dissolve into mist and reform, and also do all the other spiderman stuff. she also has no face. she keeps her mask on all the time. fun.

she's a bit lonely, cause she has to keep up the hero persona up all of the time since she's technically dead. she likes missions at Spider Society better than when she has to fight crime in her own dimension.

she's more of a stealth person, since she can hide in pretty much any place and since she can create distractions and then sneak away.

she doesn't particularly like miguel, but he's her superior and she's not going to go against authortity. she admires miles' nerve to go against miguel, but she also thinks he's kind of stupid for doing so.

Like he’s. Created with Coles memories and personality. And he LOOKs. Like Cole. Just everything is warped by the Overlord’s residual power. But he still goes by the name Cole.

so in a sense he’s. Sort of like an alternate version of Cole??? So he’s not. Really an OC.

but then. He is a separate character in that.. he grows to have his own personality and memories.. and eventually body… so he’s more like Cole’s twin, in a sense? And he has different tastes, opinions, and experiences the world a bit differently, so I guess that makes him a separate character, and since said character doesn’t exist in canon. I guess he can be seen as an OC?

yeah anyways I’ll let the one other villain Cole enthusiast (i don’t know who it is so claim that title if you want) settle this for me :)

One time I ate probably way too many mushrooms and I could feel my trip going bad. So, I turned to my roommate and I said something along the lines of,

aaron bushnell knew exactly what he was doing. he states his intentions with total lucidity and sense of purpose. he knows what he's about to do is extreme--he says so. he speaks calmly, but he's clearly terrified. he takes a deep breath after pouring the accelerant over himself. he has to psyche himself up to light the flame. he struggles with the lighter. he says "free palestine" normally once before he starts to scream it. even through his agony he manages to say it one last time before he stops being able to speak at all. this is a man with total conviction. he wanted to help people, in any way possible. this action was a moral one, and any news outlet painting this as simply a mental health issue is a disservice to his memory. he knew what he was doing when he burned himself in uniform. he knew that there was a chance that sacrificing his own life could go on to save many others. this was the ultimate act of selflessness, and it should be treated as such. may he rest in peace.
