Back on my Last Wish BS
Look at these two shots from Last Wish:
Tumblr media
In this one, Puss and Kitty are still on the outs. They're falling in regular speed, and with, y'know, the general air of panic that one might have if falling from a height. They're also on opposite ends of the map from each other.
Tumblr media
In the second shot, Puss and Kitty have already started the process of getting back together. They're falling in slow motion, lost in each other's eyes and smiling, and they're holding on to the middle of the map together.
I love this movie.

City of Truro or GWR in general
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ohh, delightful pick! Man, I love this guy. Probably one of the few pieces of art I still like from my early days of drawing humanized engines too, lol.
Truro is so great, what a canvas we've been given as a fandom! That said, since his characterization is kind of sparse I hope you don't mind if I pepper in my own Truro here. I assume you won't since you asked me specifically, but y'know. Fair warning.
Truro is so wonderful because he's absolutely peak Just Some Guy, a regular-degular old passenger engine with job to do, who just so happened to do it really, really well one particular day. I could go on for a while about how I think this would have affected a lot of aspects of his service and preserved life, but the long and short of it is this: Truro enjoys his fame, but maintains an approachable humility that I think other engines are naturally drawn to. It's a potent combination which will easily snare both engines more famous than himself, and unsuspecting ones of more humble origins.
I've previously written him as something of a playboy in my human AU, but it's not that Truro himself is more romantically inclined than other engines, that's just how I decided human-engines would behave if given yearly access to rented ballroom space, hotel rooms, and free drinks. Engines (in Ray world) tend to take a long view of relationship feasibility, and as such are generally polyamorous by nature with a few notable exceptions. Human!Truro has dabbled in fleeting little flings with a few engines, including: NYC 999, the Pioneer Zephyr, and... Well. We all knew where this was going, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only engine more speedy and handsome and dashing and famous than Truro is of course, The Flying Scotsman. It feels right, yeah?
Scotsman has this commanding presence you just won't find anywhere else outside of a room with a Gresley, and he's gregarious and smart and funny and just so winning. This type of personality is like catnip to most engines, but Truro is unique in that he can match that energy beat-for-beat with a sharp tongue and sardonic wit that Scotsman (unlike his brother) finds fascinating and intoxicating. Most engines in the company of the fastest engine in the world would struggle to maintain their composure, but Truro is cool as anything. It's the kind of situation where trying to have a conversation with them immediately feels like an intrusion, because they really only have eyes for each other.
I said most engines in Ray world would be polyamorous, but that's only as a result of the realities of engine life. If you're in service you're constantly away, or if you're preserved, you're probably not preserved at the same place. The logistics of your love life are of no concern to the people who are responsible for you. It's simply unreasonable to expect exclusivity in these cases.
That said, I think Truro and Scot would consider each other to be their first and best options for partners. I know this dynamic lives exclusively in my head, but I hope I was able to communicate why I love it so much without getting too far into the weeds. I feel like most people also ship this, so hopefully my take on it is fresh enough for you! Thanks for the ask!

Director's cut around anything in The Warlock's Cat? I absolutely adore the story.
The Warlock's Cat Tidbits :)
Also, hopefully cats weren’t deathly allergic to romaine lettuce, carrots and what tasted like balsamic vinaigrette. All Alec knew was that cats hunted mice, what their diets were like after that was a mystery. Nobody could actually be allergic to a carrot, right?
Just in case anyone out there is unclear, cats totally can't survive on a vegan diet, they have to have meat. So nice try with this salad, Alec, but this did absolutely nothing for you lol
---
He braced himself, flexed his claws but didn’t attack. He didn’t want to attack. Alec was just resting up, he’d get out of here as soon as he could but he had no way of communicating that so the cat probably…
It licked him.
Aside from the kindness from Chairman here, cats groom each other to bond but often the groomer is asserting dominance over the groomee. So in cat speak, Chairman is also saying "this is my house but I like you" while he grooms Alec. Further enforcing Magnus' thought later that Chairman and Alec are friends and that Chairman is the alpha in the friendship lol (and that they're both aware and okay with that)
---
To his great surprise, she turned to him and nodded her head as well, “I am the Sirin. It is a pleasure to meet you as well.”
The initial outline didn't have the Sirin. I just wanted some various Downworlders to show Alec how similar their people were and that Magnus was nothing like what Maryse had said. I decided it'd be fun to have a non-humanoid being come to Magnus so I started researching. When I discovered the Sirin from Russian folklore I fell in love and had to include her.
This is a picture of her and her counterpart Alkonost (the Sirin is on the left)
Tumblr media
[By Viktor Vasnetsov, Birds of Joy and Sorrow (1896)]
This is my favorite artwork of them but there are many other great ones (plus plenty that stick a pair of featherless tits in the center of their bird chests, if that does anything for you lol).
---
The spell carried Alec all the way to his bed in Magnus’ bedroom where there was some green stuff – oregano? – scattered around. Alec didn’t stick around to figure it out, he just rushed back out to the living room but Magnus was gone.
I've said before that I was heartily tempted to include an "Alec on catnip" scene but didn't because the technically un-aware and un-consenting drug use on Alec's part would change the overall lighthearted tone of the story too much but please know that after the story eventually Magnus manages to convince Alec to give the catnip a try and he gets some potent zoomies and really enjoys himself rolling around on the floor over and over again lol. He likes it better than alcohol.
---
Once more, the conga line departed the loft via portal.
Listen, if I was rich and could pay the cast to act out scenes from my stories, I'd obviously totally pick the really major romantic moments or big revelation moments or hurt/comfort moments, like I've got a list I could choose from happily. This one though... I would be genuinely tempted even though it's not major in any way. It's so dumb at a certain point, like it forever cracks me up. I was cackling writing this. I don't really do funny confidently but like, I was genuinely laughing at how ridiculous this had gotten.
---
Under no circumstance was he telling them about the litter box situation. If they loved him they wouldn’t even ask.
This occurred to Izzy and Jace both but they do love him so they didn't ask.
---
He was small. He was furry.
He was a cat.
Again.
Shit.
Originally the story was meant to end with Alec going to talk to Magnus and them realizing they're in wuv and kissing. I was having too much fun though so I added the whole cat shifter thing.
---
“The next person who finds you and thinks you’re a stray might be a more modern and responsible cat owner.” Cat said, glancing at Magnus before she turned and smirked at Alec, “I was encouraging Magnus to neuter you. Sorry about that.”
After the story ends, Magnus casts a few spells on Alec to ensure that any catting doesn't get him in a bad situation like a tracking spell and, discretely and importantly, a notice-me-not spell on his balls. I didn't know how to weave that in but like, it's important lmao.
---
“Sorry if this is rude but is your cat a cat?” Alec asked in one rush.
I added this shortly before posting because readers had been commenting about Chairman's perceptiveness. Give me a hint of an excuse to talk about Chairman Meow the familiar or the old forest god or literally all the many headcanons and thoughts I have about this cat, seriously. Any excuse.
---
Then came something glowing red. Alec picked it up gingerly and was surprised to read Kīlauea Lava from January 22, 1884 Eruption.
This is a real eruption of a real volcano. I researched this. Why? Are any of you vulcanologists? I don't know why I was so intent on accuracy here but good opportunity to tell people now: this is a real volcano eruption.
---
Magnus laughed, “Shall you tell your mother or would you like the High Warlock to do so?”
Maryse listens to the explanation of this and literally stares at them silently for like a full minute before turning and walking away. It's like long after Valentine that Maryse again acknowledges that her son is a cat shifter.
Thank you for asking!!

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Thanks....
Hi! That's a tough question, as I've just... read and seen so many things. So this will be the 10 favourites off the top of my head!
In no particular order:
❤ Tohru Honda, from Fruits Basket
I love how kind she is, and brave. I love how she chose to be nurturing and giving and sweet because of what her mother taught her about people and their feelings. She's the result of her mother deciding to break the cycle of violence, the choice to heal instead of propagating hurt.
Crucially, she's not weak for it. When it matters, she's brave and determined and faces off with her fears and opponents like a true heroine. She knows how to fight, and she can take a punch (literally, that one time lol). She just chooses to do it only when it really matters, and not to vent her own feelings.
I also love how everyone is a little in love with her, boys and girls ahah! I also love how she reacts to women and women's beauty, I firmly think she's bi - that's the vibe I'm picking up in any case.
❤ Chu Wanning, from Dumb Husky and his White Cat Shizun
Aah Chu Wanning... I just. Love how repressed he is. It's the best kind of fun to have a character SO FULL TO BURSTING with wants, sweetness, passion, and see how the narrative chips aways at their walls until it finally gives them what they want, dragging them hissing and fighting like a scared cat. He complicates his own life needlessly and suffers when he could not, but even if you want to shake him and force him to take care of himself... you understand. You understand why he's such a disaster. I love how kind he is (that will be a recurring theme in the characters I love lol), and how selfless. He has so much control over himself and I find it.. realistic, I suppose. It takes a lot normally to break someone who feels they have to hide their vulnerabilities, and most stories let them break too easily.
❤Lan WangJi, from Mo Dao Zu Shi
Same as Chu Wanning, I love his repression and shame (because they're meant to be soothed by the narrative). I love how quiet and discreet he is! And that the exuberant one still sees that he is interesting and finds him fascinating. I love that he's in full blown gay panic as a teenager and I equally love that he makes peace with himself, both sides of himself, as an adult.
I'm really fond of the fact that he genuinely likes and adheres to his sect's principles, not blindly, but purposefully. He does enjoy the quiet, simple, healthy and mindful lifestyle. He's just not rigid anymore about it. It makes me melt to see his relationship with the juniors, how lenient yet firm he is with them. They can be kids and silly and emotional, he'll let them, but still enforce the rules in a measured, fair way. They never resent him for it.
It is also, of course, charming to have a faultlessly loyal character, who only loves once, who wants to give and and to protect and to stand with his love.
❤The Fool/Beloved, from Realm of the Elderlings
What I love about him is how sensitive he is. He feels so much, and yet he hides so much. He's in love with the most annoyingly oblivious and foolish and stubborn man around, which. Anyone who has been in unrequited love with an idiot can relate LOL. I also love how multi-faceted he is. He's an obscene jester, he's a prim lady, he's a flirty lordling, he's a ruthless prophet, he's a humble woodcarving woman. He feels no conflict about this. What he feels, and hides with all his might, is vulnerable.
His queerness is catnip to me. He's probably one of the first if not the first genderqueer characters I've encountered and it made fireworks in my head.
❤ Laurent, from Captive Prince
Excuse me while I *keens high-pitched into a pillow*
Okay I'm back. Laurent is AGAIN a very controlled and repressed character, which by now we've established I adore. He's also, massively, devastatingly, knee-meltingly... badass. Smart as FUCK, swordsman of the century (barring Damen, perhaps), pretty as FUCK!
Damen misses this, sadly, for most of the narrative, but he's also so, so, so funny. Often in a mean way (which. Understandable, carry on, king), but downright hilarious.
He's also just a very young vulnerable man full of cracks, who had to fight with all his might to survive. I won't lie, I'm swooning as soon as I think about him with the top two knots of his severe, severe collar undone, or trembling minutely and finally releasing some tension under Danem's careful, careful massaging fingers... UGNH. Best, best kind of tension, 100/10, love these books, 1000/10 would read all the ways Laurent will let go of his control and relax.
❤ Regina, from Once Upon a Time
This series is all over the place, and I never finished it, but ~Regina~... Wow. It's obvious the (beautiful, beautiful) actress had so much fun playing her. She's both unapologetically evil, which is always so entertaining to see, and trying to be better, which of course is endearing as hell.
❤ Uncle Iroh, from Avatar, the Last Airbender
Do I even need to explain? He's simply the best. Unconditional love, cool uncle, loves tea, stone cold badass, in a cool secret society, didn't kill a dragon but made everyone believe he did in order to save the last ones while still earning his title because he learnt true firebending that is actually nurturing and life-giving?? I am in love, sir, marry me, I will bear the smell of your dirty shoes for the sake of your giant magnificent heart!
❤ Waymond, from Everything, Everywhere, all at Once
I've been gushing about him ever since I saw the movie. He's just. He's kind and nurturing, and that's it. He likes simple things, he tries to always have people get along, he's just a dude, but the best kind of dude. I would also like to make laundry and taxes with him all my life.
❤ Estraven, from The Left Hand of Darkness
Ursula le Guin ran so that Robin Hobb could walk (I said what I said). Estraven is so interesting. He (they?) has a strong moral compass, a capacity for seeing the bigger picture, that transcends his nationalistic culture and makes him a visionary. He's just.. so different, and yet at the end, just like Genly, you understand him in the ways that matter. I don't really know how to talk about this book and this character, it's best to experience it for oneself.
❤ Spock, from Star Trek, the original series
Nobody does it like he does. Eyeshadow? On point. Emotions? Unleashed. Vulcaness? Horny. He and Kirk launched slash, and Leonard Nimoy, on top of being a hottie, was a sweetheart and had played, if I remember correctly, one of the first gay characters out there, which. Respect.
Spock has all my catnip ingredients: repressed, full of emotions, horny, sensitive.
Also very smart and funny.

Centaurworld (2021)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
-Spoilers-
I’ve been thinking about Centaurworld so much I wanted to make a fuller review.
This show really snuck up on me. Seeing the title card on Netflix, I thought it was going to have a very squiggly, floppy, intentional ugly style and mostly butt humor. But eventually I saw the Wammawink backstory scene as a preview and it pulled me right in.
I get catnipped so hard by things that play with animation styles. I love the way we begin crisp and formal with an anime rider and a classic-Disney horse, and then warp into insane squishy Nicktoons world.
I’m just absorbed with how high the production value is when it comes to unique poses and tweens. The animators really get to have as much fun as they want and every moment feels so alive and playful.
I love the idea behind Horse disturbingly evolving into a cartoony style from being in Centaurworld. But I find squishy Horse a hundred times less pleasing to look at than Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron Horse, which I think is the greatest tragedy of the show.
I love that all the important characters are women. I love that Horse has no Female Character Design at all, while also having this cute vulnerable-seeming voice. I love that her problem is being too tough.
I really, really enjoy what my girlfriend referred to as female Over the Hedge dynamics: a bold leader and a protective leader vying on how to take care of their found family.
My favorite one is Glendale. God, she’s so funny and off the wall. She makes me lose it.
I have so much affection for Wammawink. She’s so feminine and motherly and a complete freak.
Though I have to admit, I usually didn’t enjoy Ched being there. He’s just racist against horses, it usually didn’t land as much of a joke.
There’s something really fascinating and special about the tone of this show. On the surface, Centaurworld runs on whimsy - everything is cartoon logic, anything can happen, everyone is crazy. But it’s also a world where people are living continuous lives and serious things can happen. You can die, you can get hurt, you can lose the ones you love. The characters experience these things with full depth of emotion. It’s so not a crass gotcha like “lol what if the care bears killed each other!” It’s just totally sincere and natural.
It makes me remember an Adventure Time artist saying, like, it is a cartoon, but it also has its own physical logic and events have consequences. This is so like that. The cartoon logic is totally loose and crazy, but the magic behind it is this thing that’s acknowledged in the world and has its own kind of limitations.
The storytelling has a kind of creative ambiguity that I love. We meet all these crazy characters and societies and engage with lots of overt themes and worldviews and we aren’t really told what to think about them. It makes the world feel big and interesting.
The music is so great. There are so many fun hooks and evocative instrumentations. When they break out the eerie chorus, like with the taurnado and the Nowhere King lullaby, it just makes my heart race. It’s interesting that Netflix supplies the label “Childrens’ Music”. I don’t think the show is specifically for children, but I do love the way it draws on cutesy, sunshiney, and heartwarming styles in both sincere and ironic ways.
Initially, the end of Season 1 was a major disappointment for me. The new premise, “there’s a bad guy with an army we have to fight,” felt thoroughly generic and uncompelling. It felt like it had rolled into the stale-ending gutter that I think a voting majority of all contemporary stories do.
From the lullaby, the Nowhere King was such an eerie and ambiguous presence. I imagined him as another Centaurworld denizen they would meet on their way, living in some barren valley, who would pose some strange, interesting, chilling obstacle. “You will bring joy to the Nowhere King when he sees the light leaving your eyes” is so intriguingly ambiguous. Does he kill you, or does he somehow drain your happiness away?
I found it a letdown that he was just a powerful guy that kills you.
But Season 2 picked the torch right back up and ran, and I had a wonderful time. The recruitment story was lots of fun and fully continued the feeling of weirdness and exploration. And the further development of the Nowhere King was really excellent and compelling.
I lost my shit at Glendale’s TED talk. Whoever wrote that arc is the smartest person alive. Her shocking competence coming from working on her own anxiety… the nuanced, modern analysis of the coldtaurs’ behavior told in brilliant rhymes… the way her voice just gets deep, even, and sexy when she’s in charge… I loved that so much. I listen to that song all the time.
I won’t get into all of the other parts that I found especially compelling and great. And definitely there were elements I didn’t find pleasant and parts that I didn’t find as interesting. But clearly the creators had a great time telling a big crazy story and I loved watching it. I hope they all feel pretty proud of themselves.

This is kinda of au so.
Souda goes to one of those cat cafe places cause he doesn’t want to live his life being afraid of cats and being called a pussy, so he goes there but he can’t really take his eyes of the dude sitting accros from him, for some reason all the cats seems to go towards him.
(I’m gonna say Soda had a few bad experiences with cats growing up for this cus as far as I know the games never mention him being scared of cats. But if its actually a canon fact, please let me know! I love learning trivia about my boy lol)
Soda’s like a little pissed when he gets there, cus he came to the cafe to get over his fear of cats and this weird goth guy is just hogging them all? Rude? He’s also not even paying that much attention to the cats? Just writing something on a laptop and occasionally petting them? Extra rude?
Soda specifically came during off hours so there wouldn’t be many people there to witness him being a coward, and it almost worked since it’s just him and the weird guy, but now he’s just gonna have to come back because of this jackass. He assumes the guy must have filled his pockets with catnip or something.
Soda sits a little ways away from him, deciding to finish his drink before leaving, and just watches the cats. He stops feeling mad after a while, cus he’s honestly just kind of relieved that he can just watch the cats from a distance. They’re kind of cute when they aren’t hissing and scratching at him. He’s slowly starting to enjoy watching the cats, and if he’s also taking the opportunity to check out the hot goth dude they’re crawling all over, well, who could blame him? lol
Eventually Gundham stretches and looks around and is a little startled when he sees someone else in the cafe. He pulls out his ear buds and starts apologizing for hogging all the cats, and starts trying to get some of them to go over to Soda.
Soda is trying to play it cool, saying things like “oh, no, it’s okay. They like you so just keep them haha.” but now that some of the cats are actually coming over to him he’s starting to panic a bit. He stands from where he was sitting and starts backing away. Gundham catches on pretty quick though.
“You fear these feline beasts, do you? Why then have you come to their lair?”
Soda is taken aback by the way Gundham speaks, and he stops freaking out just long enough for a cat to rub up against his leg and he just freezes and tenses up. He’s in like full panic mode and is just trying to focus on his breathing. Gundham realizes what’s happening and starts shooing the cats away from Soda, giving him space while he calms himself down.
Once Gundham’s got all the cats to do something else, he goes back to where Soda is sitting again to check on him. He asks again why Soda came to a cat cafe if he’s scared of cats. Soda explains that he’s tired of being made fun of for his fear and he wants to get over it. Gundham’s like ‘you shouldn’t worry so much about what others think about you, but, if you would like, I can help you get over your fear’ and Soda reluctantly accepts his help.
They spend like an hour at the cafe, and Soda never manages to touch a cat, but eventually he’s okay sitting beside Gundham while he holds a sleeping cat in his lap. It helps that Soda is distracted both by Gundham’s weird way of talking and how oddly handsome he is haha. By the end of it they exchange numbers (Soda totally doesn’t get excited about that lol) and agree to meet up again to keep working on Soda’s fear.)
It becomes a regular thing. Soda and Gundham spend an hour or two at the cafe once or twice a week and Soda slowly gets more comfortable around cats.
After a couple weeks, Soda no longer has any issues petting cats or letting them sit in his lap (he’s still scared to pick them up, thats how he got attacked in the first place), and he’s starting to worry that that means he wont have an excuse to hang out with Gundham anymore. He’s getting really worked up about it in his head because at this point he definitely knows he’s crushing on Gundham, but he hasn’t worked up the courage to tell him. Gundham catches on to his bad mood and is like ‘why are you so down today? You’ve been making excellent progress. Did something happen?” and Soda’s like ‘no, I’m fine’ because he’s the worst.
Gundham doesn’t fall for it, but doesn’t press it either.
The next time they meet up the cafe is closed with a note on the door saying the owner had something important to do. They both just kind of stare at the note for a while then Soda summons all his courage and says “I don’t live that far from here.” and he definitely doesn't blush or start imagining sexy situations as they walk to his place.
They end up in Soda’s bedroom, Soda is showing Gundham something he’s been tinkering with for a while. They’re both sitting next to each other on the bed and Gundham is losing his mind with how cute Soda is, just excitedly rambling away about his work. At some point, Soda looks up at him and says something like ‘Isn’t it amazing’ and he’s all smiles and bright happy eyes and Gundham just barely manages to say ‘yes’ before he kisses him.
Soda’s shocked at first and Gundham starts to apologize, but then Soda pushes him back down on the bed and kissing him right back.
Later, they’re cuddled up on Soda’s bed and Soda admits that he originally only wanted to be able to be near cats without freaking out, but he had kept coming to the cafe because he just wanted to be able to spend more time with Gundham. Gundham is like ‘you should have told me, I also wanted to spend more time with you’ and Soda gets kind of embarrassed and is like ‘guess I’m scared to talk about feelings too’ and Gundham just kisses him
'If you would like, I can help you get over your fear’

Survey #479
“war sends our sons to slaughter  /  another failed attack; there is no turning back”
Have you ever boycotted something? Yes: Chick-fil-A. Homophobic, transphobic pieces of shit. Has anyone ever borrowed something from you, and not returned it? Yes, a video game when I was little. I was so mad, lol. Do you vent a lot on social media? No. I don't want people to get annoyed with me. What was your first bill you started paying on your own? I haven't been responsible for any bills yet. What is your favorite charitable cause to donate to or volunteer for? I can't/don't do either really, but if I could, I'd probably donate to uhhhh... suicide prevention organizations. As for volunteering, definitely something with animals. Have you ever dated someone who wasn’t at all your usual type? No. What is something you have no patience for? Waiting at the doctor's office. Have you ever received a misdiagnosis? Yes. What’s that you’re listening to? I'm watching Gab play The Evil Within 2. What kind of relationship do you have with the last person you kissed? We're a couple. What is your biggest accomplishment in life? Still being alive. What is one thing that you really wish you could understand, but don’t? Political stuff. Economics. Have you ever been tutored or tutored someone yourself? I had an Algebra tutor the last time I was in college, and I had to strangle an anxiety attack down because I wasn't understanding the material AT ALL and felt so dumb and annoying. I never did it again. What was the last thing you said out loud (singing doesn’t count)? "It's really embarrassing," to Mom. It really is fucking humiliating that my ankles are swollen from walking/standing more and pushing my desk chair back against the resistance of the carpet. That's pathetic. I'm trying to focus on the fact it's good my body is even reacting to moving more, though. Is everything you have on actually yours? Yep. Do you ever just randomly drive around when you’re upset about something? I don't drive, but if I did, that would NOT be my method of de-stressing. What was the last act of creativity you displayed? Writing an RP post. What’s your favorite department in Wal-Mart? Uh, I guess where you can go see the plants and flowers. Do you find kite flying boring? I LOVED it as a kid. I'd still probably find it kinda fun. Do you have any interest in visiting Japan? Yes, but it's not a massive interest. I've heard the humidity can kill a bitch, and I am NOT into that. Have you ever run a cash register? Yes. I sucked. Have you ever worked as a server? No. Have you ever done the Bratz challenge on YouTube? No, but I saw James Charles do it and it was v unnerving, holy shit. Would you rather paint or carve a pumpkin? Carve. What was your worst experience in high school? My depression as a whole. How much did your senior prom dress cost you? I don't remember. Have you ever been in a serious romantic relationship? Three, if you include my current one. Which part of your body is the most muscular? Uh, nothing? What is the first site you check when you get online, generally? KM. Are you good at creative writing assignments? That's my forte. In elementary school, I actually won a I think county-wide creative writing short story assignment. Not to brag, but I've always been very proud of that, ha ha. Or would you rather just do an informative essay? That's easy for me too, but I prefer writing creatively. Are you more attracted to the badasses, or the goody-goody types? Definitely the goody-goodies. The "bad guys" have never appealed to me romantically. Do you raise your hand or participate in class? I did if I really wanted to ask something or was confident in an answer. What is something BIG you want to do with your life? Make a difference, somehow. What do you think of people who own wild animals? Do NOT just casually take in animals from the wild. That's selfish and just generally disgusting. If you're going to keep an animal generally described as wild and undomesticated, you'd better have a license and deserve that license. Know what you're doing and be certain that keeping the animal in captivity is in the animal's best interest for its unique case. Are you good at explaining things, in general? NOOOOOOOOO, I suck at that. Do you like visiting the mall? Why or why not? Not our mall, no. Its stores suck/are extremely limited, and SO much crime has happened there. Do you like window shopping? Why or why not? YESSSSSSS, mostly on Morph Market, a mostly reptile selling hub online. You can browse TONS of breeders and literally thousands of reptiles, especially ball pythons. They even have a tarantula section I like to look at sometimes. If you lost your job/home/etc., who would likely help you? If I'm losing my home, I'm assuming my mom is gone, so my dad. Why did you first kiss the last person you kissed? We were a couple and I felt like I was supposed to. At that time I didn't see him romantically, but I desperately wanted to. Funny how we're back together and I've no reservations against kissing him now. Feelings change, for sure. Plans for tonight? Girt and I will probably play some WoW Classic together. We've started playing that together, and it's lots of fun with him. :') Has anyone seen you kiss the last person you kissed? Actually, no. Have you ever been kissed in a car? Yeah. Do you think anyone has feelings for you? I know Girt does. Is there anyone in your life that knows right away something’s wrong with you? My mom. Who last made you smile? Girt, 'cuz he's a sweetheart. Where is your mother? She's in bed in her room. She feels like shit. Like, you would think she WASN'T vaccinated, though her long-time doctor has said she'd probably be dead without it while having Covid. Would you rather look at clouds or stars? Stars. Think about your biggest mistake, would you go back and change it? I absolutely would. Are you dating the person you last kissed? Yeup. What is the most immature item you own and actually use? Um. Idk. Do you always take a shower after you have sex? I... didn't know people did this? Like I know women are advised to pee after sex, but full-on showering? No. Do you like chocolate popsicles? Oh hell yeah. Are your parents proud of you? They claim to be. I don't see how. Are you interested in the ocean? Yeah; it's inarguably so fascinating. Hot dogs or hamburgers? I prefer burgers. Have you ever been to a Chinatown in any of the cities you’ve been to? No. Have you ever been to couple’s counseling? No. Do you have any dietary restrictions? No. Have you ever turned down a job offer? No. What’s the largest animal you’ve ever had as a pet? A dog named Cali that was a boxer mix. Do you ever pray, even if you don't believe in God? What exactly is the point if you don't believe in God...? Anyway, I don't. Have you ever been to Mexico? No. Have you ever gotten stuck in quicksand before? No. What's the shortest or longest length you've ever had your hair grow? To around the small of my back. The last nest you saw - was it a bird nest or a hornet's nest? I think a bird's? Do you enjoy Jeff Dunham? I don't know if I'd like him as a person, but I do think he's a funny comedian. Who is your favorite character from Frozen? I was never into the movies. I do think Elsa is kinda cool (no pun intended, lol), though. I like that she has her flaws. Did you finish high school? If not, do you plan on doing so? I did. Have you been in a simulator that mimicked a submarine or rollercoaster? A rollercoaster, yes. How often do you go out to eat instead of cooking for yourself? Mom and I try to avoid fast food for our health. We do a pretty good job at it, but sometimes for convenience's sake, we do eat it. What is the largest family of siblings that you know of? This is probably gonna come across as very judgmental, but... it really bothers me. I don't know how many kids she has now, but one of the dance moms from the studio has SO many children; I've completely lost count. Now if you want that many kids and can provide for them, that's cool. But that's not the case. She uses the "if God wants me to have a baby, then it will happen" mentality, and I'm just like... um, no hunny. Poor choices are leading to kids you're not adequately providing for. She uses no methods of protection and literally has twins whose room is a fucking closet. Ugh it just really bothers me. What foreign languages were offered to you at school? A whole lot. Only Spanish and I believe French were offered as in-school courses, but there were lots of online classes. If you were required to take a course right now, what would you choose? Photography. Team Biden or Team Trump? Over my dead body would I have voted for Trump. My vote went with Biden. What is an animal native to your country that may not exist in others? Bison are factually exclusive to North America. Note that bison and buffalo are different. What are some of your favorite autumn activities? Taking pictures of fall scenery. <3 What are some of your favorite winter activities? Going out in the snow. :') Especially with a camera. Do you eat a shit-ton the week before your period? uuugggghhHHHHHH yes Wendy's, McDonalds, or Burger King? Wendy's. What's the weirdest question you've ever asked Alexa? I've never asked Alexa anything. Do you prefer your apple cider to be warm or cold? I've actually never had it. Do you prefer your coffee hot or iced? Y'all know the story of me and coffee. Can you sing the alphabet backwards? I can't. Have you ever sent flowers or chocolates to yourself before? Ha ha, no. Is there any meat that you won't eat? Yeah, fish and ANYTHING that comes from a wild animal. Does your cat use anything other than it's scratching post as a scratcher? When we got him a scratcher WITH CATNIP, the lil butthead ignored it. -_- He scratches the carpet instead. Did you go through a vampire craze before? Are you still going through it? Nah. Have you ever forged your parents' signature on a poor test paper, etc? No. Has a bird ever pooped on you before? Omg, no. I'd die. Have you ever been sprayed by a skunk before? No. Are black jellybeans delicious or disgusting? I HATE them. Have you ever rolled down a grassy hill before? I have! I miss that.

Furry Species Stereotypes #1 - By Me
Note;
These are only my personal views of the furry fandom's species I know from my personal experiences with them,
and if not that, then general common assumptions or stereotypes.
Thus, this is not gospel truth for everyone!
If you disagree, please tell me why!
I'd love you guys' take.
I also tried to name as many species I could think about off the top of my head without looking them up, which took FOREEEEVER.
You can reply to this or anon ask me, or DM me with ones I've missed, even your personal own created species (even if no one knows them yet), I'll do them too in a reply to this!
Real existing species stereotypes down below, here!;
WOLVES ; Due to this being the most common persona, you are most likely someone who follows the crowd and likes things that are popular. You however are still a pretty solitary being, preferring a dark corner over a party's dance floor. You love honesty and loyalty and have those traits to a fault, never ever abandoning a friend or ally, in need or not. You may also like things like squishy toys and squeaky toys, fidget spinners, and any manner of play item. Also, basically, to sum it up; YA' BASIC. Sorry. 😆
FOXES ; Somewhat similar to ferrets, raccoons, & sometimes rats, you both scurry around quickly simultaneously physically, and in conversation, and you may "borrow" items from places seemingly like a kleptomaniac, but for sentimental items. Basically if you are friends with a fox fursona, your jacket and/or gloves, pins, pizza (LOL) and many other miscellaneous items may go missing "mysteriously" due to them collecting it as a habit. They almost never mean true harm, they just like keeping your stuff because it reminds them of you, which can be seen as creepy by some people. But it is also very endearing, if done with pure intentions. But you may want to tell the fox to stop taking your things and ask you first! LOL. You always seem to have a ridiculous amount of energy and for some reason, an insane amount of optimistic viewpoints, and positive happy personality. You also like your books, preferring to spend a night reading then playing video games. (Although you do enjoy those too.) You are pretty academic, but yet you can also do well in physical sports, if you're into that sort of thing. There are a few points in the wolf & dog category I would assign here too, most likely due to all three being canines, like liking the squeaky and squishy toys and other stem items, and being verrrry loyal if a bit solitary in nature.
CATS (BIG) ; ...Y'all are usually assholes! There! I said it! I'm sorry to say, but nine times out of 10, you guys seem to be huge dicks, and I'm... not sure why, exactly?? What attracts the enormous dickwad to the big cat's umbrella of wild cat species? Maybe, perhaps, it is the superior, regal, and majestic appearance of big cats,--perhaps relating to their usual narcissism in normal life? Okay, so, I'm exaggerating a little, I have met some big cats that are great and very good friends. But a lot of them I've seen have been downright rude, callous, cold, and distant, at best! And downright asswads at worse!! However it seems like as bad as they go when they're bad, they go really good when they're actually good. When they are cool people, they're actually surprisingly chill, especially when comparing to the other type of big cat. They tend to usually be D.J.s, dancers, comedians, performers or some sort of person in the entertainment field, in some way. Those type're usually hella nice to get along with, however their super friendly exterior disguises a very weird, eccentric and esoteric mind beneath. They also seem to ooze confidence outwardly, even if they aren't confident feeling on the inside. They are royal and regal, and usually relatively unfazed by anything that would hurt normal people pretty badly. These are usually the type of people who don't get into emotions very often, or if they do, they always still have a wall up between them and the other person. They're strong, but that's because they force themselves to be strong, and it makes for a very bad night if the big cat snaps and takes out their very strong, tiger-like roar of anger on others! Thus if you are a big cat, I suggest finding ways to manage your anger, and finding ways to relieve your stress, as I noticed people who are big cats in their fursona tend to be very stressed in real life for some reason. Again, I'm not sure why people who are, are attracted to that species specifically.
CATS (SMALL) ; You kitties are solitary like the big cats and wolves, however much more docile. There's two main types of cats that are house cats in fursona; There's the serious brooding figure that seems to be always alone yet peaking curiosity in everyone's eyes--the type that is stealthy, sneaky, and very cat-like--as in, realistic cat-like. You may sit strangely or have odd habits in voice or body, something that makes you stand out as different. There's also the second type of cat, which is basically an UWU XOXO anime girl that is ridiculously feminine, high pitched, and almost always is a neko type furry character instead of a full furry anthropomorphic character. Not that there's anything wrong with nekos, they're awesome too, it just seems to be a trend that any neko is usually a cat. You may like to actually smoke catnip! (Okay that was a joke LOL, but yes, it is possible, and yes it does get humans somewhat high, but most would not recommend it due to it being short & tasting bad! LMAO 😆) You also really like batting things around, or batting things off tables or counters--when you have a cup of tea beside you, the urge to knock your mug off the table is irresistible, even though your rational mind denies the notion from actually happening. You tend to like yarn snd thread, whether that means just playing with it or knitting or sewing etc. and making creations with it! You usually like fish a lot, mostly sushi is your favorite, and usually, you tend to be more based in Japanese culture.
DOGS ; See wolves, but add loyalty hella and way more people-oriented. you're somehow more basic than wolves 🤣
RABBITS ; As someone who has a rabbit as one of my main 3 fursonas, I have to admit I love rabbits. We are usually very social, unlike the animal we're based on, preferring to conversate and meet people. Although, like the rabbit, we may be shy to actually begin the conversation, or initiate plans on our own. We also scare easily, and most of us for some reason tend to have anxiety or panic disorders, not always, but quite often, and that can usually be why we relate to the characters of rabbits which go still & shake or attack fiercely with their hind legs if scared. There are some people with rabbit fursonas that are definitely fully shy, but a lot of them are actually quite more outgoing than you would think they are. And no, rabbits usually don't love carrots. (Including real rabbits, they eat mostly hay and carrots should only be a treat!) But for some reason one thing I noticed is that almost everybody's fursona in existence is. Just. Super sexual and flirty and just out there in every way. They can come across as perverted and strange to a lot of people due to this, once they reveal their true colours rather than their cutesy entrance, to those they know well.
DEER ; You guys are the innocent bunch, the kids that seemed to never know what was going on when it came to violence or sexual content in any media or situation. This innocence continues throughout your life. You're usually a 'deer in the headlights' and can get very confused easily and a lot, and also you can become quite shy and reclusive if you don't have friends to pull you out of it to shove you into social situations by force. You may not be 'the brightest bulb in the bunch', but you are definitely the friendliest, kindest, and most understanding one in it. Most people love being your friend because your support gives strength that can't be found elsewhere, due to the power and stability of your connection to people. You also may really like salad.
BEARS ; You guys are a bunch of big gentle giants. For some reason, most every person who plays a bear fursona seem to be gigantic in real life, either super tall, or super fat, or super muscular, or a combination or all of the above! Whatever it is, they're always big intimidating figures. Yet, despite this, they seem to be very sweet, mild-mannered and very loyal. They also seem to have a lazy streak, preferring to lay down and eat honey rather than do anything productive on time. Don't get me wrong, they'll do the task, but it'll just take until they feel like doing it. However when they have ambition, they have it and have it well, being able to rise to Big manager positions very easily. They tend to be very shy both in romantic situations and just in general. Despite their large presence, they're just a bunch of softies.
OPOSSUMS ; An opossum is one of my main fursonas, based on me. Plus I can tell you from experience that opossums are little shits. They will pester the shit out of you, text you non-stop, and talk your ears off if you let them. They're not trying to be annoying or clingy, but they're just that type of person that really clings to people and likes talking to people as long as possible when they like them. Like raccoons, rats, and other things on this list, they like hoarding treasure and they tend to be sneaky mischievous little beings, loving to pull pranks or make a joke to make someone laugh hard. The opossums are kind of the clowns of the furry species, always being the comedian of the group. We love soft blankets and we tend to sleep with our head under the covers completely like we were in our mother's pouch. Also a lot of us do what I call the 'human sofa', where we curl around someone's back as they sit, and become their backrest, to snuggle them.
WEASELS & FERRETS ; Same as opossum, but make them scary and super suspicious all the time. I mean seriously, these guys are "sus". Who knows what they're up to? But they tend to be great comedians, and can always crack a joke that's sly and sarcastic to make someone burst out laughing, even if it's just one person who does due to their obscure references to their many fandoms.
RACCOONS ; Same as opossums, weasels, and ferrets--except add that you love trash. Whether this means collecting empty boxes, like shoe boxes and electronic boxes, or collecting old newspapers, or straws, or broken glass, (who knows?!) or making new pretty things out of old withered things, all of it you adore! You enjoy the feeling of making the most out of nothing, and pulling something out of your ass to survive no matter what the situation. This tendency can lead to intense resourcefulness in every area of life.
SKUNKS ; They all tend to be really chill, mostly... because all of you are fucking weed smokers! I guess it comes with the territory since skunks have a skunky smell, but damn does your skunky smell smell skunkier than a skunk! 😆🤣 Okay, okay, now besides the usual stoner stereotypes, you skunks are pretty chill beings, usually preferring a night on the couch. Although when they do catch you adventuring, they'd catch you frolicking in nature, and catching tadpoles, or doing something odd in a river. You love forests, and also love the sounds of city, traffic, and cars passing by. Rain is one of your favourite times.
BADGERS ; Y'all are some bad motherfuckers, the type of person who could kick anyone's ass, any amount of people, and come out without a scratch. People like you are nearly indestructible, and also tend to be somewhat snappy and harsh to others, although usually unintentionally. You tend to love honey, and/or any kinds of sweet things, which tends to contrast with your spicy personality. You have a pain tolerance out of this world, and you also have mental pain tolerance as well, seeming to never get hurt or let down by others' actions. This is due to you never fully trusting, and always preparing somewhat for a let down.
TANUKIS (JAPANESE RACCOON DOGS) ; This is my main fursona, and like opossums, Japanese Raccoon Dogs / Tanukis are ridiculously loyal and strange, almost clown-like beings, and also like raccoons, they love finding old things and transforming them into new. They also tend to be very artistic and really like colours, usually having some form of synesthesia if not multiple, usually having to do with colour association. Also you usually have a very strong connection to Japan and it's culture, either being Japanese or just loving the culture itself, and tend to base a lot of your life around Japanese things. You may even be planning to move to Tokyo someday! Tanukis are notoriously mischievous, but in a friendly, jokey way, and they tend to never want to make people mad. Due to this, they are always very friendly and positive, as much as they can, even if they feel the opposite inside. These are also the types of people to be very esoteric, weird, and downright uncanny, which fits their Japanese theme as Japan does some weird shit too LOL. Also usually stoners. Also pretty flirty, but not overly.
COYOTES & OTHER MISC. CANINES ; As a less common version of dogs, you have some manner of uniqueness about you! You tend to be active, especially physically, and in sports, usually very likely to do hiking as well. You tend to be pretty chipper, although you can come across as sarcastic or biting when you're in a bad mood. When you're in a good mood, everyone can feel it, and your smile brightens up the space around you! People tend to be attracted to your demeanor, even if you don't mean to attract them, they still come, and this quality can lead you to some of your lifelong friends (and perhaps, enemies.).
SHARKS & OTHER AQUATICS ; You aquatic creatures tend to be the jocks of the group, however despite your jockiness, you actually have quite a brain on you; being able to figure out complex things like math problems that are way ahead of where you are, or learning to read very soon in your life, and maybe even being in spelling bees or talent shows later on! You tend to have a scientific mind, and definitely have at least one or two fish tanks, if not a whole room full. You can be a bit perverted, and even a little bit dominating in conversation, but for people who can get past that--you make a loyal, fun, and active friend.
SNAKES & OTHER REPTILES ; You all tend to seem shady no matter how stand-up you are, and the fact that you never go in the spotlight, always preferring to stay by the sidelines and observe and watch others closely. Occasionally, you may leave a small remark, and due to you barely talking, those things you do say echo only louder for those who hear. You tend to be reclusive and secluded, loving the silence of rainy days with no one bugging you, and your beautiful reptiles. You tend to be quite confident, and even heroic at your best, being kind and also empathetic and caring, and intelligent. At your worst, you can come off as cold, manipulative or even cruel at times. Snakes and reptiles are usually seen with dislike and/or fear by others, which can lead to a hardened heart in you that makes you trust less easily, fearing judgement in who you are.
AXOLOTLS & OTHER AMPHIBIANS ; You guys kiiinda tend to be the 'uwu i'm special!!1!' bunch, but rather than in an insensitive annoying way, in the way that you're genuinely childish and innocent and naive, which can be both a blessing and a curse. Like the aquatic axolotl, you stay young forever, (kind of like Peter Pan!) and you seemingly never lose your sense of humour, your playfulness, or your absolute randomness at times. You are someone who would fight to the death for a friend you just met, even though you are usually pacifistic. You have great traits when it comes to caring for others, and fully taking care of others--skills that would bode well for you becoming a nurse, doctor, psychiatrist or therapist. You tend to love water, and will go swimming the whole summer while it's warm enough! You also don't mind, even if it's cold, you'll jump in anyway.
MICE & OTHER RODENTS ; You guys tend to be even more cutesy and little than rabbits! A lot of you guys seem to be age aggressors due to mental illness, and thus choose a very small, innocent animal as their fursona. These people can also just be generally childlike, innocent and playful, albeit very shy. The other type of rodents are the creepy ass ones who give off a high & mighty vibe, being very confident, swaggering, and even mysterious at times. They're the cool kids you see in school, pretending to be some mysterious goth kid, but really they just learned the goth look a week ago.
GENERAL INSECTS/BUGS ; You tend to be very odd, weirding out the general public more than you do connect with them. You've always felt a strange disconnect between yourself and the world, feeling like you're not really there or like you could be more. You might have transformed from being a totally different person in your past, to being a radically different person now. You tend to rule change and dreams and mystic things, perhaps even being some sort of psychic. You tend to have an extremely open mind and a very welcoming, understanding personality, due to you even seeing the beauty in bugs, which so many find repulsive. This quality will follow you into life, which you must be careful of--don't start trusting everyone you meet. Due to you always seeing the best in everyone, you can get taken advantage of easily.
And now fictional/mythical/extinct/hybrids down here;
DUTCH ANGEL DRAGONS ; Y'all give off a very confident vibe to me, although it's hidden under an exterior of pretend anxiety or hesitancy, which you really don't feel. You're one of those preppy kids who tends to dress girly regardless of gender, can't handle coffee but loves their jasmine tea, likes their succulents planted in their house in cute little DIY decorated plant vases, and wears pastels of colour. You tend to be a bright, vibrant person who sees the best in things, and you can be a little naive due to your extreme and blind happiness that radiates purely from you.
GENERAL DRAGONS ; You tend to intimidate others easily, but this is not something you mean to do whatsoever. In fact, you usually try your best to make friends although you usually scare them off, whether due to being unintentionally too clingy, or just being too awkward in conversation. You tend to have anxiety or different worries about things, but you try and overtake these things with a massive upbeat attitude. Although sometimes, this attitude does falter, and you can become somewhat pessimistic without reminder. Also, like raccoons, ferrets and other similar animals, you love to hoard treasure and things you love, everything from gemstones, to rocks, to bottle caps, to pieces of broken glass--it doesn't matter what it is, if it's collectible, you will collect it.
PROTOGENS/PRIMAGENS ; You guys tend to lean heavily into the Japanese aesthetic, or at least into the vapourwave aesthetic. Perhaps even steampunk! Whatever it is, you follow it heavily. You also tend to be a tech nerd. You can help anyone with any computer problem almost effortlessly, and you even have knowledge of technologies in the recent past such as devices like record players, VHS tapes, etc. that most younger people wouldn't know about (if you are young, or if you're old, you know from experience.). You could even be a hacker of some sort if you wanted to, considering your huge skill with computers. Personality-wise you tend to be very cutesy, excitable and both very very innocent, and yet somehow perverted, at the same time. You most likely speak more than one language. I'm not sure why, but it seems like every protogen or primagen I've met speaks multiple languages, two at least, if not more.
SERGALS ; Very similar to sharks, with some qualities of reptiles. You guys also have the Leo zodiac-like personality type of loving to be loved; being in the spotlight is your favourite thing, no matter what it's for! Due to this, some Sergals will tire of reaching for difficult positive attention, and will start to even accept negative attention as attention they want, then will try and act like a troll on purpose to fuck with people, only to get a reaction. Other times they're just chill and generally relaxed people, although if you threaten their family they become very hostile and very unstable emotionally, quickly.
CRUX ; Due to the history of the species being about being experimented on, and abused, and combined, etc. etc., people who play cruxes tend to be pretty edgy "look at how dark I am!!" people. However not always--sometimes, weirdly, very girly, upbeat & happy people will roleplay cruxes. So it's kind of unsure what you'll get when you interact with one. It's pretty much a 50/50 chance on whether they're upbeat & happy, or dark & brooding. Whatever the case, they tend to be usually neurodivergent, since cruxes are mentally ill if you think about it basically, a lot of people have latched on to them as their comfort species for being mentally ill. Like dogs, you love squeaky toys and also you love piercings, and tattoos, and any body modification you can achieve!
PHOENIXES ; Similar 'emo' type to cruxes--people generally choose phoenixes due to their history of being unbreakable when it comes to physical harm. Due to this, a lot of emo people latched on to them. However there are also regular people who play phoenixes, and they tend to be very regal--if a bit intimidating, and are very ambitious & strong-minded people. They have a fieryness that blazes through to show their phoenix-y nature bubbling underneath the surface.
GRYPHONS ; For some reason, you tend to be very aggressive and domineering individuals--think Bakugo Katsuki from My Hero Academia, the anime. Sometimes you can come off as a huge asshole, but you're really well meaning on the inside, and you try to do your best by everyone--you just seem intimidating and aggressive due to resting bitch face and voice, LOL.
DINOSAURS ; You are an excitable individual, whether that means being angry easily, or hyper easily. You tend to be younger in age, or at least younger in mind, having an innocent heart and somewhat ferocious ambitions. You are strong and untamable when it comes to authority figures bossing you around. Most of the time there's no changing your mind if it's set, and you can be very stubborn, pushy, and audacious at your worst, and at your best; proud, confident, encouraging and passionate!
SKULLDOGS & OTHER SKULLIES ; Similar to phoenixes and cruxes, they tend to attract emo, goth, punk, or scene people, however rarely a bubbly girly person will roleplay one, and usually do it with pastel colours instead of dark. They tend to be somewhat reclusive, but yet enjoy people's company when forced to interact. They are people who don't really give a shit much in most circumstances, but when something gets them stirred up, it gets them up and going quickly. They can be somewhat cold and harsh to those who don't know them well, who know that it's all a façade of intimidation, to drive you away from getting closer to them.
FOLVES & OTHER HYBRIDS ; Similar to foxes, you're an excitable hyper furball that will jump around the room, and meet as many friends, and talk to as many people as you can! You guys seem to have none of the reclusive types of personality traits that foxes usually have, and instead seem to be very pack-bonded people! You love finding lucky things, like a clock or license plate that has triple numbers, or picking up a lucky penny off the street. The little things in life make you very happy.
So what do you think?
Did I get your species correct?
If so, or if not, tell me why in the replies! I will read 'em all.

Back in the days of LJ, I used to try and do a post at the end of each year, looking back primarily at fandom and fic. I fell out of the habit when everything moved to tumblr, and then it seemed like I didn’t have anything to say since I wasn’t writing or really participating any.
But I always liked the idea of it, because I love to be overly reflective on stuff. And talk about my fic. Any excuse! I shuffled around some of the topics I used back then and added a few I’ve seen around that I liked. It got… long, because I TALK, so I split into two sections.
*
Your main fandom of the year?
Marvel (MCU) for sure. Primarily with characters from Spider-Man and Iron Man movies.
Your favorite film watched this year?
The Old Guard - I saw a couple trailers and everything about it looked like catnip. ‘It’s probably going to be so dumb, but I don’t even care,’ I thought. And then it was so good. It was so much fun and so much smarter than I expected and I loved each and every character and it just made me happy in so many ways.
Your favorite book read this year?
Red, White, and Royal Blue, Casey McQuiston - I read it twice this year actually. It’s so… cute isn’t the right world. Sweet and hopeful and soft and comforting and intense. I liked every single character which is pretty rare. I cried during the sad parts and then again at the happy ending, like straight up sobbed - both times. I already want to read it again.
Your favorite tv show watched this year?
Schitt’s Creek - I started it on a whim and because a lot of people had said it was good. The episodes were short so it wasn’t a huge time investment. The first season was a little rough, but there were enough funny moments that I hung on, and then… I kept getting fonder and fonder of these idiots as they grew. And THEN… it kept not disappointing me?
You grow to expect certain scripts, twists, jokes, especially in queer story lines. To wait for the bad thing to happen, because it always does. Instead, Schitt’s Creek kept going, ‘hey, here’s the set up for that! Guess what? We’re not doing it. Here’s the happy version instead.’ The relief of having that happen again and again - the last season I’ve watched (I’m sort of saving 6) I cried a bunch but it was always because I was happy.
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
1896 - I’ve been waiting for the new Steam Powered Giraffe album so eagerly for aaaaaages. Finally getting recordings of Zero’s songs! Lying Awake remains my favorite off the album, with Eat Your Heart and Bad Days on the Horizon high up there as well. I’m loving what Zero brings to the band.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
I don’t know if I really did discover that much? I stuck pretty closely to old fandoms and the ones I picked up in 2019. Maybe Zodiac? It was definitely inspiring, and I want to write and read more in it.
Maybe the couple discords I joined? I still really dislike discord and am not on there much, and mostly lurk when I am, but having somewhere vaguely like the comms I remember makes me feel a little less isolated. It’s the potential, that maybe if I said something I might make a friend, or someone might actually want to hear what I say.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
The Watch - I mean, I knew it was going to be a disaster with every word said during pre production. I wasn’t ever going to be happy with it. And then it came out and was even worse and uglier and … disrespectful not just of the source material but of actual people connected to Terry. I’m beyond disappointed that this is what we got, and it’s probably going to be a long time before we get anything else.
Devil All the Time was terrible, but I didn’t have especially high hopes. It still didn’t manage to meet them. Yikes.
The most missed of your old fandoms?
Maybe MASH? Someone I follow started talking about it and I was reminded all over again of the wonderful fics in that fandom. I went looking and a lot are gone (still on my computer, lol, but not online), but rereading was such a trip. A slightly depressing trip, but still.
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Hmm. I’ve kind of not had the energy to invest in other fandoms at the moment? When The Witcher was having it’s big moment back in January, I had a feeling I might enjoy it enough to fall headfirst into the fandom, so I avoided watching it. Ikr? I don’t have the time or the energy to actively seek anything out.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
SO EXCITED about Winter’s Orbit. I mean, the third Spider-Man movie for sure, with worry. The second Venom movie, ugh yes. I have tentative hopes for Jungle Cruise? Jumanji was stellar and I always enjoy Dwayne. I have both hope and dread for the new Suicide Squad - I did love Birds of Prey, so if it’s along those lines, yay. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard because it should be some fun garbage, my favorite kind. I don’t know how I feel about Dune, but, uh, I’m anticipating it. It seems highly unlikely it will actually happen, but The Wheel of Time TV series.
I want to be excited about Black Widow but it’s hard. It’s not the story I’ve been wanting to see, and I’m angry about Natasha not getting a movie until she’s dead.
You know. If any of it is released for real.
The Good:
I moved to a better place. I got a better paying, better benefits, better environment job that lets me work from home. The house acquired 3-7 more cats depending on the month. I was able to get some serious problems on my car fixed. I have insurance and was able to start on some health stuff. No one I know got sick or died. I wrote a LOT.
The Bad:
Aside from the obvious? Depression hitting extra hard during the winter. Having to put two kittens to sleep. Have my car be hit three times in our parking lot. Being driven INSANE by one of the cats for months while the vets were all closed. Kidney stone. Dealing with several health problems. Stalling for months on Gotcha.
The Indifferent:
Not leaving the house often or easily. Enjoying a new fandom but not doing great at making connections (still real awkward, bud). Raising kittens and saying goodbye. Need new tires. Reading a lot of fic but not a lot of books. Having more pay but more expenses as well (wth insurance??).

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
SO MUCH MORE OMG. I mean, even just counting posted stuff! (I probably wrote a solid 300k of Gotcha this year.) I did not expect or plan on doing Kinktober, so that’s a whole 31 fics right there. I also wasn’t planning on doing any exchanges - I have a History - but then I did three? And beyond that, I did not expect for everything to get so LONG.
Topic you wrote that you would never have predicted in January:
Tony/Quentin. Goddammit @the-me09 They were like hey, they could be interesting! And while I agreed, I had no ideas for them. THEN they had to go and write Just Bodies That Collide and next thing I know, I’ve got ten fics featuring them and two-six series focused on them or Peter/Quentin/Tony. What the fuck.
Leitmotif of the year:
Vulnerability, I think. I had a bunch of things typed up and they all circle back to vulnerability in the end; sex, being seen, being wanted, sharing trauma, asking for help, trying something new. Offering a soft spot in the hopes it won’t be hurt.
Favorite character to write about:
Tony Stark, for sure. There are just a bunch of slightly different takes, and a lot of canon to work with (kind of frustrating too though). And I’m a sucker for emotionally damaged snarky traumatized characters that are viewed poorly both in universe and out.
Favorite kind of fic to write:
This year? Fluff and smut combined. Maybe that’s not the right term really. I keep looking for and writing, even in the angstiest fics, for those soft moments. Sure, maybe it’s a super smutty kink scene, but I want the affection to be obvious. Maybe everyone is consumed by guilt, but I want it to be based in caring too much. Maybe there’s no real love, just sex and even that’s messed up, but I want to find that tiny bit of fondness.
And I want happy endings. Or endings that look like they’re going to be happy, at least, even if there’s all the angst first. I don’t think I’ve killed anyone this year? Who AM I?
Biggest disappointment:
Not finishing the rough draft of Gotcha. I was making such good progress in 2019, from August to December. Even after the move, I basically finished part 6 in January. I fumbled around and fussed with 1 a lot, but that had already been given one draft, really, and I got through half of 4 before I slowed to a stop. I’ve barely gotten anything accomplished on it since June. Bits and pieces here and there, but nothing significant, not like I was doing. I can excuse October, due to 80k invested in Kinktober (yikes!), but aside from that… I’m sad. I’ll finish it eventually, but I really thought I could have the first draft done in a year. I’m sitting at about 480k out of what I’m almost certain will be 700k.
Biggest surprise:
Kinktober! It was kind of spur of the moment, decided just a week in advance. I’ve tried month long or even like, 20-25 day long challenges and I don’t think I’ve ever completed one. I thought there was a good chance I’d do so again, so I gave myself a little help and made my own list of prompts, things I knew I liked and hadn’t done much of yet. And it worked? I actually completed it, what the hell? Despite spending five days travelling near the end! Despite falling behind in getting ahead and writing a bunch of stories the day they were to be posted! Despite apparently forgetting how to do short form!
I, uh, could have done without the spawning of eleven series or sequels or continuations jfc WHY SELF.
Something you learned this year:
Ideas breed ideas. I swear to god, the second I sit down to think through a current idea, I wake up the next morning with three more.
Words need to be restocked. I need to consume new - not rereads, not fic - content every so often to refresh my word bank. It is astonishing how quickly writing goes again after I’ve done so.
I can write so much more than I thought I could. I can do so much more than I thought I could. Yes, I can complete challenges without dropping out early. Yes, I can do exchanges and not regret it. Yes, I can write more than 100k, more than 200k, more and more - and I can write 10k+ easily too. Though I wouldn’t mind if I could once again write less than 10k without feeling like I’ve cut off in the middle.
My time is shrinking, and if I want to write as much, I’m going to have to make the time. I can’t rely on three days off a week, on seven hours of uninterrupted overnight shifts, on hyper focused writing binges that leave everything else around me on fire.
Most memorable comment:
So, so many! I can’t pick one. I’ve been really lucky to get a bunch of really detailed, enthusiastic, analyzing comments across all different fics. One of the types that always sticks with me are the ones like ‘I didn’t think/know I liked this ship/kink/twist, but fuck, apparently I do? You made me, what the hell?’.
What, if anything, are you going to try to do differently in your writing in the new year?
So with writing Gotcha but not posting until it’s done, my view of what I’ve written vs anyone else’s is extremely skewed. I’m sitting here thinking, hey I’m 400k in and got another 10k done today, so much writing! While anyone looking at my AO3 account (for most of the year) is like, you’re averaging three months between fics :(
All that to say I want to try and get something posted more frequently while I’m working on Gotcha.
Also, writing for kinktober was really interesting - pushing myself to write every single day, often for that day’s post, forced me to get back into shorter form fic. Which used to be all I did? But it was surprisingly hard to just stop and not write more. So I’d like to challenge myself to write more fics under 10k at least. Maybe even under 5k though that might be asking a lot lol. I might get there with the many continuations of those fics I’d like to do. Does that count?
Goals:
   I want to hit 365 fics. :) I’m only 32 away!
    Aside from writing -
I’ve really enjoyed the reading record sideblog I started this year. I’ve let it lapse a little the past month or so, but I’d like to keep it going strong.
I’d like to leave a lot more comments. I want to get better about allowing imperfection - I want to write The Best Comment, but in the end? Probably 90% of fic writers are going to be happier with a comment expressing enjoyment in any way over no comment at all.
And not just on fics, but on general posts as well. It’s hard not to feel… weird and stupid and invasive and rude leaving any sort of comment on someone’s post if I don’t know them at least a little. I have godawful rejection sensitive dysphoria and a lot of interactions that ended poorly; I’m really not good at people. But as dumb as it feels to say those things, I know I am thrilled and warmed and happier when there’s a reblog with tags or a note or a comment or an ask or just, any small interaction that shows someone out there notices and cares, at least a little. There’s no reason I can’t at least try to offer that to other people.
I’d like to make/run a couple challenges of my own, later in the year. I’m still figuring out what I want to do and what I could do. I’m really interested in doing something that’s not focused on creators, but the readers; some sort of comment or rec challenge maybe.
I want to find a cheerleader for Gotcha. I’m struggling to keep up my motivation to write it when it’s already in my head, where I can ‘read’ it any time. There’s a line between depending too much on external validation and trying to generate all your validation yourself, and I’m getting to a point where I think I need to ask for help (gasp! The hardest thing EVER).

ALRIGHT! I’ve now seen the new Cats movie!
My first thought?
”That could’ve been a lot worse, actually.”
Even if I didn’t absolutely love it, some of the songs really brought me glimpses of the happiness and excitement I got from the original musical, and dare I say it, I would actually like to see the new movie again.
I went to see it right after watching the old version with my friend (she loved it btw!) and so, the contrast was pretty big.
My general thoughts and some shameless ranting with absolutely no order *spoilers ahead*:
- I got used to the designs of the characters quite quickly, there were some I liked more than the others but my mind numbed to it eventually. "You get used to anything, except an icicle up in your asshole", as the age old Finnish saying goes (and that's a rock fact).
- However, I did not like Jennyanydots the Bodyhorror Cat and I am pretty sure the person behind every decision regarding her might be an alien.
-Bustopher Jones lost all his dignity. In the musical he is very respected and completely fine with being a ”bounder”, yet in the movie they make a joke about him being sensitive about it. I also could’ve done without seeing cat men and women wolf down garbage.
- Apparently falling and tripping on things is still concidered to be peak humor in Hollywood.
- (maybe thanks to that) Instead of the humor coming from just their body language, they relied more on the spoken gags. Most of them are pretty meh. However, I’ll never forget the ”Is he neutered? That note was kiiinda high...” line, ’cause, whoa... wow... damn... Didn’t expect that. Lmao.
- Speaking of the Rum Tum Tugger... well, let’s just say John Partridge will probably keep the mantle of being the best Tugger forever. Derulo has a good voice but the whole design given to his character and the way they had downgraded his importance in the movie made him a tad forgettable.
- Also, Jellicle cats do not have cheerful faces, actually Jellicle cats seem rather mean.
- The ”Touch me!” Part of Memory lost most of its meaning since the importance of touch was never implied in the movie. I’m also annoyed that the directors didn’t tell the actor of Grizabella (Jennifer Hudson) to go a bit easier on her first two appearances and do the full blast crying scene at the end when she’s pleading the other cats to accept her. Her emotion was seriously amazing, but because it was too strong right from the start, she lost the wow moment she could’ve had at the end. It wasn’t her fault, Memory is supposed to be an emotional roller coaster, but she should’ve been directed better.
- I prefer Grizabella being much older looking overall, even in the musical productions, since the comparison between how the Jellicles behave towards Gus and Grizabella is quite an important point to me. If they are both older cats, it’s easier to see and the decision to send her to the Heaviside layer more justified. Yeah, Grizabella’s coat was a bit dusty and the corner of her eye a bit scarred in the movie but she was waaaaaaay too fine to think she’d need a whole new life to fix herself. Nope.
- Very important note: There definitely should've been a rule that cats with clothes should KEEP THEM ON during the entire movie. The whole deal with clothing was utterly baffling altogether. Some cats had cat sized shoes, hats, jackets and they seemed unable to decide if they should keep them on or be in their birthday suits most of the time. Plus, if some cats have clothes and others don’t, it’s just going to look odd. And hey, why is that one cat otherwise naked but wearing shoes? I don’t know man, nobody knows.
- Thankfully, Skimbleshanks the Railway cat decided he rather liked his pants and never removed them. His tap dancing number was one of the best scenes in the movie. He also had a proper excuse to wear cat shoes. Good job Skimble.
- Ian McKellen (the cat) had the kind of fur around his head I wish every cat on the movie would’ve had. I’ll never forget him saying ”Meow, meow, meow!” Or dunking his head into a bowl to lap water with his tongue. I actually got a bit teary eyed watching his number.
- I don’t feel that Taylor Swift’s Bobalurina was... well, Bombalurina. She was just some hench cat whose only purpose was to get everyone high on catnip and preach about Macavity.
- Honestly, I actually thought the whole Macavity song part was pretty neat! Hear me out (don’t scoff, lol). Yes, it was odd, but the way the dancers started moving when the golden flakes touched them was fascinating to watch. It was almost like a reference to the beginning where the cats couldn’t help but dance under the Jellicle moon and their movement showed that clearly. Storytelling, but with dance! Can you believe it!? I’m just sad that the CGI cheapened the dancers’ amazing performances during the whole movie since their movement looked odd at places thanks to the added fur. When there’s so much digitally added effects on screen, you can’t help but wonder, is this real or just animated?
- I haven’t said anything about Munkustrap, I notice. Maybe because I like complaining too much and had to get all the whining out of the way. Good news, Munk remains a good, good cat and he was definitely my favourite character, alongside with Skimble (who kept his pants on, as you might recall). Thank the Everlasting cat or the Maker for small mercies.
- Also, to people talking about Munk and Misto in this new movie, I see ya. My poor heart is quite confused since the song Mr Mistoffelees is, and will always be, to me (and many others) Tugger and Mistoffelees' song, and therefore can have that kinda romantic vibe. Since they threw Tugger out of the window, going as far as to make the two interract as little as possible, I’d rather eat my right leg than accept the romance they cooked up with Victoria and Misto. Since Munkustrap sings the first parts of Mistoffelees’ song in the movie, I can see why Munk and Misto could be seen as a new pairing.
I don’t mind if you like Victoria and Misto together, it doesn’t itch my bum what other people enjoy, so have fun! Victoria x misto is just not for me. If I had to choose who I ship in this movie, I’d probably ship Skimbleshanks with his hat. It’s a very good hat. You can’t see the CGI ears under it. Oh, did I mention Skimble's pants? They were red and he kept them on throughout the whole movie.
- (just remembered) Victoria singing Beautiful Ghosts to Grizabella immediately after Grizabella ended her second part of Memory, reminded me of that Tall Girl meme from last year. Like, “You think your life is hard?" *bursts into song*
- Macavity being so desperate about getting to the Heaviside layer was actually pretty hilarious and the whole thing about him vanishing all the other “contestants” was something new and unexpected. Didn’t really mind it. I just wish the big finale would’ve been Mistoffelees making all the vanished cats appear again.
- Judyteronomy teleporting behind everyone after Mistoffelees song made me laugh.
- Mistoffelees believing in himself at the end of the movie was pretty wholesome.
- Hey! Macavity’s fur actually looked a bit red when the light hit it from just the right angle and the stars aligned! I wonder if that was one of the features they added when they did the updates. Maybe that's why they couldn't afford to give people cat noses. Oh well.
And that’s all for now!
This is already pretty long and got kinda outta hand. Thanks if you read this whole thing! I just wanted to vent and gather my thoughts about the movie. I love to nitpick and poke at stuff. I hope I didn't come across too negative or say only things everyone and their mothers have already talked about. The movie was far from perfect but in this nice safe bubble of ours no one should feel ashamed of liking something Cats the musical related. I'm actually itching to see this again, in all its horrifying glory, because despite all its flaws and things I wish they would've done differently, it's still Cats and some of the songs and scenes absolutely, quite positively slapped.
If you, for some unthinkable reason, would like to know my thoughts on a specific scene or thing in the new Cats movie, or just anything Cats related, feel free to ask me!
Toodle pip!

You often saya you think bruce is a good dad in young justice, so i'm curious, how do you think Dick decided to become Nightwing? And how do you think his relationship with jason was like??
I do think Bruce is a much better dad (consistently) and has a much stronger relationship with Dick than in the comics. At least for the age Dick is for the second and third season, which corresponds to when Dick and Bruce had their most strained relationship in the comics.
To be honest, I credit a lot of that to the fact that even though there certainly are times in the comics where I really like Bruce….I think he’s pretty much always portrayed better in the animated adaptations. I think that has a lot to do with the audience the cartoons are written towards…..obviously, many, many adults have enjoyed the various cartoons as well, but there’s no denying that they’re meant to appeal to younger audiences in particular. So, there’s a concerted effort on the part of the writers to well, write a more kid-friendly Batman than the grim and gritty figure so many comic book writers are obsessed with keeping him as, without variation.
Note….this doesn’t mean that Bruce can’t ever be (and isn’t ever) those things in the various cartoons. He’s still a dour, cynical, dark figure compared to most of his teammates in various adaptations….but there are degrees to that sort of thing, and ways to pull off those personality traits that aren’t so inherently alienating to audiences and as often prone to violence or conflict with his own family as many comic book writers make them.
I think the key difference is a lot of comic book writers, especially in the last couple decades, prioritize pushing Bruce to various extremes and ‘exploring’ the limits of what a hero is, and how far you can go while still being termed an actual hero or even a good man. Compare this to the cartoons, where most of them, even when emphasizing Bruce’s more antisocial traits, never go anywhere near the worst territory in the comics…because the cartoons still remain cognizant of the need to keep Bruce….a hero in the eyes of children as well.
And the way he’s written in the comics, at least lately, just…isn’t that.
Anyway, point being, I think he and Dick have a lot less conflict in the YJ universe, and in how I headcanon and write them there, though that doesn’t mean its always smooth sailing. I personally always go with a take that in that universe Bruce adopted Dick while he was still living at home, somewhere around twelve or thirteen maybe, after he’d been living with Bruce for three or four years. There’s nothing really in YJ continuity that contradicts that, and there’s no storylines predicated on conflict over him not being adopted, so there’s no reason in my mind not to have him adopted fairly early on and give him a more secure grounding in his relationship with Bruce in that continuity.
So as a result, even though I think due to certain core differences, there was always going to be some conflict between Bruce and Dick as the latter got older, due primarily to Dick’s need for independence and self-agency and Bruce’s issues with only feeling secure with having a measure of control over situations and thus struggling with Dick moving towards more autonomy in his life as for Bruce that correlates to it being harder to protect him….
Like, I think that was still a thing in the YJ universe, but due to Dick feeling more secure in his place in Bruce’s eyes and family, and Bruce feeling equally secure due to Dick having accepted his offer of adoption and expressing that he doesn’t really want to ever not be a part of Bruce’s family even if he’s not living at home anymore or even in Gotham….I think that’s really all that’s needed to keep things from ever getting TOO bad between them.
Then however, there’s things with Jason - one thing that’s always had me really eager to see them get to Jason’s story in YJ is that for years, Weisman has mentioned in passing that in that universe Dick and Jason were very close before Jason’s death. Which of course, is like catnip for me. LOL. So I tend to headcanon that Jason was adopted not long after coming to live with Bruce, but there was no conflict or insecurity or even reason for those things between the brothers and Dick and Jason became close pretty early on.
And so personally, I headcanon that Jason was a large part of the reason for Dick’s transition to Nightwing….I think he was already organically feeling that Robin, as he’d put so much effort into making a symbol during his own time in that mantle, like….no longer quite fit him or who he wanted to be as a hero, specifically, as he grew older. And that perhaps Dick wanted Robin to remain associated with Batman, his father, in a way that it might eventually come to no longer be associated with Bruce if Dick had stayed Robin even after moving away to another city and becoming more strongly associated with that city.
And IMO Jason was always going to want to go the Robin route himself, not just to be like Dick or whatever but just because Jason is very proactive and action minded, and while I don’t think either Bruce or Dick would have encouraged it or pushed him towards it, like….my view of Jason is that he was never going to be okay with sitting at home safe and secure when his father and brother were out on the streets fighting supervillains and risking their lives to protect people. He was always going to want to be part of that, IMO, and I think upon recognizing this inevitability, Dick (like he did in the pre-Crisis comics) is the one that actually gave Robin to Jason in the YJ universe, with his blessing, and then he took up the Nightwing mantle for his pre-Crisis reasonings - the hero he shifts into becoming as Nightwing was in his eyes a result of being inspired by Bruce, Clark and his first father in various ways.
However, there are drawbacks to this of course, when Jason dies….because due to having given Robin to his brother himself, Dick inevitably feels a lot more responsible and guilt-stricken here, like if he hadn’t done that this would never have happened - even though, as I said, Dick ultimately only gave Robin to Jason because he was sure Jason was determined to go the vigilante route with or without anyone else’s blessing, and so with that in mind it only made sense to offer him Robin and enable Jason to carry on in a family tradition at the same time.
So Dick, in my YJ headcanons and writing, distances himself from Bruce, Gotham and pretty much everyone in the wake of Jason’s death, because of his guilt and his unwillingness to let anyone like, pardon him for that guilt or tell him its undeserved. Because Dick is only 19 in Season 2 and was 14 in S1, I headcanon Jason as not being five years younger than him the way I view them as being in the comics….rather I bump Jason up a couple years so he and Dick are only about three years apart, and go with the idea that Dick was fifteen when Jason was adopted at age twelve by Bruce, which is about how old he was when taken in by Bruce in the comics.
So I put Jason’s death as happening only about a year, maybe a year and a half before YJ S2, when Dick is only 18…..so a lot of how I see Dick reacting here, and how he deals with his grief and guilt, like, stems from him being young and not really wanting to RELINQUISH his guilt. He’s experienced so much tragedy in his life already by age 18 that like, he needs it to make sense, he needs there to be a reason, and that gets twisted in his head so that he comes to lean on his guilt and rely on it, because the extension of it being his fault, is like….that means there’s a REASON Jason is dead, and by blaming himself, Dick is able to kind of impose a sort of artificial order on what is ultimately just a senseless tragedy, violence that needed no reason to exist.
Grief rarely makes sense.
But point being, like I said, I feel Bruce is a bit more emotionally healthy and put together in YJ than in the comics a lot of the times, so here I emphasize him trying to work through his own grief by FOCUSING on his remaining son, rather than alienating him and immersing himself in violence and his own guilt. Trying to help Dick through his grief and loss and guilt at the death of his brother, after having lost his first family just a decade before, whereas Bruce’s own initial tragedy is further removed for him….like, here, this is how Bruce copes. It gives him a goal, something to focus on, a productive direction to channel his grief and anger and energy.
Unfortunately, the thing is, you can’t really ever help someone through their grief or loss in something like this, IMO. You can only really ever just….be there for them, when they’re ready and able to come to terms with it in their own way and just need your presence and support. Which Bruce does here, for Dick, but the caveat to that is there’s no timeline to it, and no way to speed up that timeline. It happens when it happens. Sometimes these things just need some degree of time to work themselves out, and I think that here, Dick needs time to spend feeling guilty, being angry, raging at the senselessness of it all before he’s able to accept the tragedy of it and the fact that it happened because it happened. Reasons ultimately don’t do much more than chart a course to the tragedy. They rarely change anything about it having happened.
So again, even though its the right thing to do and not really something he had any better alternative to, Bruce trying to get Dick to see that Jason’s death wasn’t his fault is ironically the thing that alienates them for a period here, even if only a year or two at most. Because as I said, Dick just doesn’t want to hear that, doesn’t want to accept that, because blaming himself is something he can DO, and if he doesn’t have even that anymore, then there’s nothing to distract him from facing the simple reality that’s just…his brother is gone and nothing he can do or say is going to change that.
And then there’s Tim. I always view him as about two years younger than Jason in the comics and the same here, so if Jason is 15 when he dies and Dick is 18, Tim is 13 when he becomes Robin.
But again, there’s differences here, because Bruce is actually dealing with Jason’s death a bit more healthily here, in as much as that’s possible. By focusing his attention on Dick and trying to get him through this and them through this as a family, Bruce is able to avoid the spiral he goes through in the comics, where he descends into brutality and self-destruction in his crime-fighting. Here, he’s trying to be a rock for Dick, when Dick is ready to try and grab hold of something instead of just drowning in his grief, so the end result is there’s not the same canon impetus for Tim to seek out Dick or Bruce himself out of concern for Batman’s behavior.
So rather, its more just hero worship that motivates Tim. I headcanon him as having figured out their identities previously, same as in the comics, and him being like, a huge fanboy of both Robins and having been among the first to realize when Jason took Dick’s place as Robin, even before Nightwing debuted and people connected the dots there. So of course, when Robin was nowhere to be found and Jason Todd was announced dead, Tim knew why Robin wasn’t out there anymore, and that he was never going to be again.
And so here, I think that alone is what motivates Tim, as that’s the thing he’s not able to accept. I think its a fitting grief reaction for Tim’s age, given that in a way, it is grief. He might not have known the Waynes personally at this point in time, but he did KNOW them in a way, from following their public lives in both their civilian and costumed personas. So it makes sense to me that Tim, knowing that Jason Todd and thus Robin is dead, and knowing that he’s one of the few people to even KNOW for sure that Robin is dead, like….it makes sense to me that he would end up grieving in a kind of way himself, even just from a distance, knowing that he can’t really just go up to the Waynes and offer his condolences about Robin.
And so for a thirteen year old fanboy who is grieving for a fallen hero he never knew personally, just via his symbol, and is perhaps frustrated and maybe even angry that nobody else is grieving for Robin, because the general public has no idea that a hero even fell….even being able to understand WHY it had to be that way, why Batman and the JLA weren’t announcing Robin’s death in order to protect the remaining Waynes’ identities….
I think here, this all culminated in an unwillingness, a refusal to accept this, and from there it kinda morphs for Tim into a determination to….keep Robin alive, essentially. He understands why they can’t admit Robin’s dead, he does. But if Robin can’t be dead, Tim decides, then he needs to be alive, otherwise its like pretending Robin just…..doesn’t exist anymore.
So here, I headcanon/write Tim as having set out as Robin himself, in kind of a makeshift costume and trying to help people the way he watched Dick and then Jason help people as Robin for years, as just…a combination of hero worship and a grieving thirteen year old trying to process things there’s no real manual to going through, and trying to honor his fallen hero by emulating him. I don’t think he was actually trying or intending to attract Batman’s intention, though he’d realize in hindsight it was inevitable, its just…that was never why he was doing it, so he was kinda like AWARE of it as a likely possibility, it just wasn’t particularly relevant to him until it happened.
And of course, it’d be quickly obvious to Bruce that this kid didn’t mean any disrespect with what he was doing, the exact OPPOSITE in fact, so its not like he could in good conscience be angry with him or resent him for doing it. Rather, he’s touched, it means a lot to see someone else honoring Jason for the things Bruce is kinda STUCK being unable to honor him for….so that makes Bruce perhaps a little more predisposed to Tim and not fighting him on his efforts than he otherwise would be, just considering it was as Robin that Jason died. I see it as Tim probably reminded him of Jason then and there just as Jason had reminded him of Dick when he met him…..rather than see himself in each of his sons and future sons, he sees THEM in each other.
So he kinda convinces himself not to talk himself out of letting Tim continue what he’s doing, justifying it as like, Tim’s obviously so much like both Jason and Dick, there’s no way he’s not going to keep doing this on his own if he feels this strongly about it, and he understands and even agrees with Tim’s logic in doing all of this in the name of Robin, like it makes sense to him as a way of honoring Jason, so he kinda just….like I said, he just talks himself out of talking Tim out of this and focuses on just training Tim and trying to make him as capable and prepared to survive anything he encounters as possible. And at the same time, Tim kinda becomes a new ‘project’ for Bruce to distract himself from his own grief with, especially while Dick is avoiding him.
Dunno if you’ve seen my meta on this subject but I really LOATHE the take that is used for Tim’s comic book narrative, that Batman NEEDS Robin and that this thirteen year old shouldered the burden of becoming a grown adult’s emotional support child in order to stop him from like, beating people and himself to the point of hospitalization. To me that’s just…..super backwards and not ideal at all, so I flipped it here to what I think it should be, at least for a world predicated on child superheroes who aren’t grounded from crime-fighting each and every time they try it.
So rather, in the YJ universe I posit Tim becomes Robin to keep Robin alive, after knowing he must be dead, and Bruce devotes himself to helping the latest caped kid to plant himself in his life and say “I’m gonna go save the world whether you like it or not so get on board or get outta the way old man,” like….actually survive their “Kids, Don’t Try This At Home, No But Seriously, Really, Really Don’t” life choices.
And so here, Bruce doesn’t make Tim Robin….its more he just doesn’t have the heart to second guess Tim’s choice there, given his reasons for making it and the fact that Bruce no doubt feels guilty about not being able to honor his son as Robin himself.
Problem is, from a distance, that’s not how it would look to Dick. So this contributes to Dick’s distance and alienation for a few months at first….because to him, this is a betrayal, because he looks at what he knows of the situation and he doesn’t know Tim personally yet, so to him it looks like his dad took the one thing Dick ever gave to his brother that was truly his, that was just theirs…and gave it to some stranger. And he’s like, wow, I’ll take “You’re fucking dead to me for $500, Alex” and keeps his distance.
Except Tim hero-worshipped Dick just as much as he had Jason, and he’s witness to Bruce’s unhappiness because of his strained relationship with his son, and so Tim sets out to like, meet Dick and convince him that his dad is miserable because he never wanted to hurt either of his boys and he loves Dick so much, gosh, he just wished Dick knew how much…..
And the thing is HERE, unlike in comics, since the real issue is Dick not knowing Tim himself and seeing how similar he is to Jason and himself and how determined he was, like, having a backwards perception of Bruce just kinda….giving Robin to Tim rather than Tim just genuinely wanting to honor Jason’s memory, which Dick of course can’t actually fault him for any more than Bruce can, for pretty much the same reasons….
Because THAT is the specific issue, here, meeting Tim and getting to know him IS exactly what’s needed to get Dick to reconcile with Bruce, and from there, finally start to heal as Bruce and Tim and Dick and Alfred are kinda all able to finally get on the same page and help each other with that.
And then stuff with Tim’s parents happened, I figure, and Bruce is like, well I gotta adopt you now, like duh, obviously, but I mean, only if you want, and Tim is like well yeah, obviously, like duh, and this probably all happened right around the exact same time Cass came into their lives and family and Steph started Spoilering around town because what is pacing, I mean, really.
BUT then bonus to all of that is that then by the time Jason DOES come back, he doesn’t feel as alienated or forgotten as in the comics, because Dick due to his and Bruce’s very apparent period of estrangement, not to mention Dick’s reasons, is able to act as a bridge between Jason and Bruce. And similarly, he’s able to blunt Jason’s resentment of Tim and insecurities about being replaced by virtue of the fact that Dick held these very things against Bruce himself on Jason’s behalf, until Dick got to know Tim and began to see it the way Bruce had, and that he in turn is now able to relay to Jason and help guide him to see it the same way and how everything only happened this way BECAUSE of everyone’s memories and feelings about him, not in spite or in dismissal of those things.
And thus I can this way see the YJ Batfamily awkwardly stumbling (albeit with a few backsteps along the way) towards actual happy and healthy cohesiveness, huzzah!

Roswell NM 2x03
Maria finally knows! I love that it was Rosa who told her (it makes so much sense that she would be opposed to keep that secret from her imo. Though I can imagine fandom having other explanations rme), and that Michael was on his way to, after Jenna’s comments about honesty. I love how angry she got to be, too. There’ll obviously be a reconciliation later on, but I hope this lasts a few episodes and I hope we see Michael and Liz freaking earn it after the bs they pulled with her. One of my favourite lines of hers was when she pointed out that the reason Liz had wanted to tell her is because she needed Maria to support her. Also, giving the protective necklace to her mother was nice and all, but I hope it doesn’t bite her in the ass :/
One thing about this storyline is that I found it weirdly... healing? From Caroline’s storyline in the early days of The Vampire Diaries lol. I think they are in ~dialogue, so to speak. Like, Maria’s dialogue in particular: “turns out my friends are just really good liars”, “I thought [that night I was roofied and possessed by an alien] I made a fool of myself, but it was my friends making a fool of me”, “you left me vulnerable”. Either way, she was spot on tonight.
On that vein... it’s kind of disheartening just how much Liz subscribes to the pod-people’s POV on this now. During that scene, and the one last week with Rosa, I just wanted her to stop making excuses (but especially this one, because Rosa, unlike Maria, wasn’t asking for her to explain anything to her and so didn’t let her a lot of room to talk lol).
There wasn’t as much focus on Rosa this episode but I liked what I saw. My favourite part was when she told Maria “I reserve the right to be the mentally ill one on this friendship, is kind of my thing.” Should I worry about how much I relate to her or... lol. It seems they’re officially going with a bipolar diagnostic. She and Lizzie remind me so much of each other, man.
For now I’m going to headcanon that the guy who helped Michael’s mother in the 40s was Maria’s ancestor, sns (there aren’t many black people in Roswell other than Maria and Mimi so it’s not even that much of a strech... I just hope they don’t try to have a ~twist and make it be about, idk, Steph or something xD). It would heighten Maria and Michael’s connection and could explain her family’s apparent ties to the alien lore. Speaking of Maria and Michael, I loved their first scene, with them teasing each other over breakfast, Michael opening up to her about his childhood, and Maria having fun telling Isobel how Michael had “parked in her lot” lmao.
Isobel got through with her abortion (unless there’s another ~twist/surprise down the road. Let’s hope not), for which I’m very glad. I had gotten tired of all the storylines about women having to go through pregnancies they were unsure/conflicted/downright opposed to the idea. Sometimes it works for the character and I don’t mind it as much (though I do mind the relative lack of alternatives very much), but in this case, with how much Isobel clearly wanted to get rid of it? Yeah, no. I don’t even care that much about her but I felt very strongly about this. On a funnier note, the scene where she shows the sex toys to the Sheriff is hilarious. Though it resulted in a mental image with Max and hoverboarding I cannot unsee now ugh xD.
I imagine that the Liz & Jenna subplot was fandom catnip but I rolled my eyes. so. hard. during it. Especially at how they bonded about all the things about Max I find unpalatable lmao. But in general. It felt like Pandering 101 and I did not enjoy it one bit tbh.
I missed Kyle. Though OTOH if he'd been there it would've likely been as Isobel's support and Icm not about that life lol. It's bad enough when I see it happen to Liz or Maria, thanks (just DON'T let it happen to Rosa, show).
Spoilers from next week’s promo: I hope Arturo and Rosa’s reunion isn’t a bait-and-switch and we actually get to see it. I cannot wait for him to find out. Gosh, it’s going to be so heartbreaking. I loved seeing Maria’s mourning (I liked her line about how she feels cheated because of the secret resurrection, too), and I was disappointed that Kyle didn’t point out how Liz and Rosa were clearly going to leave town without telling him anything lol. But Arturo’s (well, his and Helena’s, the mother, who I hope we meet at some point) reaction has the potential to be the most intense, unpredictable one, and I want to see it.

Another TV rec:  I finished the current season of Grace & Frankie a couple of weeks ago, but I’m still kind of thinking about it because I wound up being really invested in these characters and their friendship. My favorite character is Grace--as @belldreams pointed out, I definitely have a type!--because she’s caustic and mean on the surface, but there is such emotional vulnerability and damage underneath the surface, which is like absolute catnip to me.  (It helps, of course, that Jane Fonda is absolutely stunning as well!)  Grace, for me, is best summed up with, “You like being mean to people!”  “I don’t like it.  I’m just really good at it.” said in this sort of weary way where you can tell she does enjoy it a little, but at the same time, it’s not like she likes hurting people. I enjoyed this season a lot because it was some really strong personal growth for Grace, because I think a lot of people miss that what happened with Robert deeply damaged her, on top of already being someone who had a lot of trouble being vulnerable with other people.  And I think a lot of my reactions to her character arc are getting tied up in thoughts I’ve been having around friendship vs romance lately, in that I love love love romantic stories, I love love love shipping, I ship tons of characters and always have and probably always will, but I don’t ship Grace and Frankie themselves, despite that their relationship is the heart of the show and I don’t want it to be any other way. I’ve really enjoyed Grace’s relationship with Nick, that she had to make herself vulnerable with him, really vulnerable, the kind that could have ripped her heart to shreds again, and that was so scary for her.  I love that he really gets that she’s a package deal with Frankie, that part of being with her isn’t about pulling her away from that friendship.  But that, at the same time, sometimes she does need to choose him, too. Which is exactly what I want from the show because I’m in a place where I’m finally ready to start talking a little more publicly about being aromantic myself.  I’ve known for a long time, but I still had some things to settle in my own head (especially around how much I enjoy romantic stories, it’s just that I feel nothing in me that wants romance for myself, I want family and friends instead), and I’m realizing just how much I’m prioritizing relationships and fulfilling paths in life that aren’t romantic in nature.  That maybe the characters have romance/sex aside from those things, but the MOST IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIP in either of their lives is the one that’s platonic.  As someone who really needs to see that more often, that romantic relationships genuinely aren’t the most important part of the story, they’re not THE heart of the story, a relationship between two people that is what everything else in the show eventually boils down to, seeing these two women have this platonic friendship be the most important thing, while still having all this other side stuff going on, really got me in the feelings place. This is, of course, at odds with a lot of people who would benefit from seeing an older queer couple, should they go down that route, of course, so this isn’t saying that my representation is the only one that matters.  If they do go down that path, I will be really happy for those that it means something important to them, just as I hope that if they go down my path, people will be happy for me to get something that means something important to me. Whatever happens, though, it’s such a charming, witty series that has a ton of charisma, is LOL-worthy at many, many points, and does a lot for showing older women with sex drives, complicated lives, and just what it means to get older, from the point of view of those who are going through it.  It’s worth watching just because it’s funny, but also worth watching because it has a ton of heart.

Lots of slow blinks.

All of the regular human-on-cat smothering, plus too many toys for them to ever use, no less than half a dozen empty cardboard boxes set up randomly throughout the apartment at any given time, access to every surface other than the kitchen counters, and cuddles/pets/playtime whenever they want.

Friends of ours didn’t shut the door all the way and he was missing for several ours. 47. Do you buy them presents?
For every Christmas! And occasionally randomly throughout the year
48. Do they respond when you call?
Yep, they all know their names :)
49. Do they ever see other cats?
Very rarely. Vertigo and Marble hate other cats. Sinn wants to be friends with everything.
50. Declawed?
Vertigo is half declawed. As mentioned above, most of his front claws were removed for medical reasons. He’s a big, male cat with polydactyly, meaning he has extra digits. A lot of polydactyl cats end up with extremely thick, ingrown claws. Vertigo is no exception. His back claws are ungodly thick and grow really long, but luckily don’t curve much. His front claws, however, constantly curved until the points were embedding into his paw pads and would get infected and be painful. After struggling with it for years, we decided it would be less stressful on him to get them removed and we could deal with pain management for arthritis he’ll likely have as a result when he’s older. So far so good, though, and he has no problems with his feets.
51. Funniest expression?
Sinn; full, open mouthed squealing. He’s so dark, but his teeth are so white that it looks ridiculousVertigo; sometimes gets his cheek fluff or chest fluff stuck in his mouth after grooming and it’s so goofyMarble; goes cross-eyed when he yawns
52. Favorite place to be pet?
Sinn; e v e r y w h e r e   everywhereVertigo; his head, or if he’s into it that day, his bellyMarble; under his chin
53. Worst thing they’ve destroyed?
They don’t destroy things, they’re very good boys
54. Give them a head kiss.
Gladly, but I already do more often then they probably want... Except Sinn. He wants all the kisses.
55. What time of the year is most exciting for them?
Sinn; Summer, he loves the sun!Vertigo; Winter, he loves the snow!Marble; I’m not sure he has a preference
56. Are they good at hunting real prey?
No..... Sinn makes friends with everything. The other two suck. We had a mouse in our apartment once, and had to buy a mouse trap. Three cats, and we had to buy a mouse trap slksjdf They would die if they ever got lose and couldn’t be found
57. Do they ever attack nothing?
Yes! They’ll randomly pounce on nothing, and it usually turns into playing amongst themselves or with a nearby toy.

61. Ever baby-talk to them?
I mean. You read their nicknames, right...? (yes)
62. Favorite napping position?

63. Have you ever stepped on their paw?

They all like the patio door and the humming bird feeder out there, and the front window, where the watch people walk around like it’s a sport
67. Describe why they are precious.
Sinn; perfect, sweet, adorable little angle Vertigo; so grumpy, but when he’s happy, he’s so deeply happy and purrs so loudly and freely and he’s probably the most loyal cat I’ve ever seenMarble; winning his affection is so rewarding and he’s such a sweet boy when it finally happens. He’s also derpy as hell when he’s comfortable around you and will let you lion king him and throw him over your shoulder
68. Fit the cat stereotype?
Sinn; lol noVertigo; yesMarble; Yes, but fierce
69. Chaotic neutral?
I would say for all three?
70. Do they enjoy following/ keeping you company?
Oh yeah. All three migrate to whatever room I’m in at any given time. My partner says that on my weekends, when I sleep in, they’re lazy and quiet until I get up, then they’re active and playful and want attention. And Vertigo knows my work schedule. He waits by the door for me to get home.
