touya is halfway through his workday, grease up to his elbows, little jumpsuit half undone down to his waist, when iguchi comes in to tell him "someone's askin' for you out here".
he's not sure who it could be, but there's no telling, so he just decides to take a smoke break and wander out of the automotive garage, maybe imagining one of siblings out on the pavement.
but the minute he sees you, he stops. nearly drops his cigarette on a rough, "oh shit."
it's been a while since he's seen you, a year or two, and the packet of paper in your hand can only mean one, bullshit thing.
"nah, nah, nah, i ain't signing any papers," is how he greets you, shaking his head the minute you start up the path with a big, determined frown. touya doesn't run, but he sure twists on his heel and starts back up the path, too, as you start calling out his name.
practically all of his coworkers are watching when he comes back into view, not bothering to hide how nosy they're being. their audience makes you falter just a tad and touya clings onto it; anything to stop you.
"never a good sign when your wife comes to find you at work."
there's a long silence, from everyone. when he looks back at you—at your manilla folder and carefully stapled documents, your petition for divorce—your eyes are heavy and wet, almost the same way they were when the two of you stood in a courtroom, lying about your age in order to pledge until death do you part.
almost. now they're just sad.
from somewhere in the garage, toga calls out a bewildered, "you have a wife?" that makes him feel a way he can't understand, both amused and devastated all at once.
your wedding ring isn't on your finger, but if he stares long enough, he can maybe see the difference in color of your skin, a former tan-line that's begun to fade.
he sold his for stuff he shouldn't have been buying, stuff that ruined him and you and your marriage, a long time ago.
but touya only smiles, and calls back, "yeah, i do."

Heart Of Gold, Hands Of A Healer
Pairing: Bradley Bradshaw x female!reader
TW:none, just tooth rotting fluff
Summary: Bradley never knew how much he needed love and affection until you gave it to him.
Word Count:2.8k
A/N: Okay lets hope it doesn't cut off this time bc I'm at my wits end
Tumblr media
Bradley Bradshaw doesn't consider himself a soft, lovable man. He keeps barbed wire around his heart, isn't very affectionate, and drops his life at the drop of a hat when the Navy comes knocking.
He's large and broad, his body is littered with scars, and his hands are calloused from years of working on his car and flying F18s. When he does have a girlfriend, they never stick around for long. They soon realize he's not a project that can be fixed and lose interest.
They always want to settle down and get married, and they can't handle his closed-off emotions and unwillingness to have anything permanent. So they cut and run, and Bradley lets them. He figures they want him to chase them, fall to his knees in the rain, and beg them to stay. He never does.
He concluded he's got too much baggage, not that anyone ever stuck around long enough to help him unpack it. Women don't like his battered, imperfect body. Sure, he's got abs that rival a greek god, but it's flawed with imperfections that they never cared to get the story behind.
Until he met you.
You blew into his life like a warm summer breeze, and he realized he hadn't been breathing his entire life. You disarmed him in an instant without him even noticing. The cage around his heart fell apart, and he let you in without a second thought.
You make him feel safe and adored, and the weight of his past melts away when you're with him. The second his eyes land on you, the tension dissolves from his body. His shoulders drop a bit, his joints stop aching, and his jaw unclenches.
His dentist has been on him for years about incessant teeth grinding at night, and it turns out the solution is sleeping next to you. He never knew how much he craved affection, but the second your soft hands grazed his flesh, he was hit with the realization that he needs your touch more than air.
He's like a giant next to you, his frame looming over your body when he hugs you. He's frequently found holding your hand up to his, marveling at how your fingers only extend an inch or two beyond his palm. Those hands he loves so much, capable of bringing them to his knees despite the fact he makes fun of you and says they're no bigger than a child's.
You find beauty in all of his scars and scrapes, taking time to get the story behind even the most insignificant mark that even he forgot exists. You make him feel important, always listening intently as if he's telling you the most exciting thing you've ever heard.
You always take your time worshiping him, your fingertips tracing the plains and valleys of his tender skin with feather-like pressure as if they're roadmaps to someplace sacred only you know about.
He's never been particularly insecure; that's not the word he would use to describe it. He just doesn't like the marred places on his body, tissue built up from where it was torn open. A silvery reminder of everything he's been through.
He confessed he thinks his scars are ugly one evening, and you looked at him with such revere that he felt love for himself blossom deep in his bones.
He's never seen himself as anything other than damaged goods, yet you see him in such a beautiful light he can't help but let it shine through him.
You and Bradley have only been official for a couple of weeks, yet it feels like he's known you for a lifetime.
You're sitting at the hard deck, and he notices you staring at the side of his face.
"See something you like?" He jests, but your face remains serious.
You reach out gingerly, almost afraid he'll jump back, and trace the scar on his jaw. Your fingertips leave a trail of fire, and he freezes.
"No one has ever done that before."
You look at him curiously, your forehead scrunched and your head tilted.
"Why not?"
He shrugs shyly and averts his gaze.
"I think they're ugly, and I guess other people do too."
You shake your head and lean forward to press a chaste kiss to the place your hand just was.
"They're part of you, Bradley. Evidence of a life lived. There's nothing ugly about that."
You lay together on the bed that night as he took you on a journey through his life, tenderly loving each of his scars, both mental and physical.
Your lips press barely there kisses on each mark that graces his face and neck, and Bradley allows his eyes to flutter closed. He revels in the feeling, electricity crackling just under the surface every time your mouth touches him.
"Beautiful." You whisper, and Bradley finds himself agreeing. Not because he thinks the tattered skin is special but because he now associates it with you.
"How'd you get this one?" You ask, lips tracing a two-inch long line on his palm.
"Cut myself with a butter knife in second grade." He responds, voice soft like rain in the fall.
"And this one?" You're now focusing on a raised welt on his pectoral, the old mark barely visible. If you didn't know to look for it, you'd miss it. He pushes away the idea that you pay such close attention to him that you were able to pick up on it anyway; the thought makes him want to cry.
"Paintball to my bare chest at close range. My buddy and I did it on a dare in high school."
You hum contentedly and continue on your path.
"What about this?"
Your finger taps his knee, and he smiles softly.
"Varsity baseball. I was known for sliding into home, and one day I caught a piece of gravel."
You smile fondly at the visual and glance up at him.
"Will you show me pictures sometime?"
He swallows thickly and then nods.
He isn't usually one for reminiscing. That was around the same time Carol got sick, and he's never let anyone into that part of his life. He knows you're different; if he told you no, you wouldn't push the subject.
He wants to share those memories with you, and he wants you to know his parents the way he did. It doesn't hurt so bad when you're the one he's talking to about them.
You let him share at his own pace, never expectant and always allowing him to stop whenever he gets uncomfortable. He feels lighter, and he supposes it's because you've seen the darkest parts of him.
Instead of running, you took his pain gently in your hands as if to say, 'Let me help you carry this. You don't have to be crushed under the weight of your grief anymore.'
Your heart is pure, and Bradley has never felt love like yours. It's all-encompassing, wrapping him in golden light and promising never to let him be shrouded in darkness again.
You're lying on his chest, watching as he flips through old photos and albums. Your hand rubs the scar on his palm absentmindedly as he explains each and every one to you. So many women have refused to even acknowledge the marks that glimmer when the light hits them just right, yet you find comfort in them.
"This one was taken a couple of weeks before my dad passed." He explains, and you smile fondly at the image of little Bradley sitting atop Goose's shoulders as he and Carol laugh. You can feel the joy radiating from them and reach out to stroke the laminate paper carefully.
"You look like them. You have your dad's eyes and mom's smile. I can see where you get your goofy and bubbly personality from. They live through you."
You don't realize how much weight those words carry at the moment, and Bradley swallows the lump in his throat. He doesn't think he's a bubbly person, but every time you laugh at one of his corny jokes or smile at him like he hung the moon, he starts to believe it more and more.
"How did they meet?"
You're not paying him much mind, and that's what gets him. You're not trying to be sweet and thoughtful; it's just who you are. There's no ulterior motive or desire to figure out why he's so fucked up just to fix him.
You just want to know about him and how he came to be. It's completely innocent, an act of pure love, and he can't imagine how he got by all these years without you.
"They were both from Virginia originally. They met at mom’s job, and she always said that she didn't notice dad at first, even though he was completely smitten. Apparently, she turned him down a few times, but he kept showing up and making her laugh. I don't entirely believe that, though."
You move to look up at him through your lashes and kiss his jaw.
"Why don't you believe it?"
The question is simple, yet it causes his heart to swell. You genuinely care and want to know more. He'll never get over the fact that you listen when he tells you stories and ask more questions because you're interested in the answers.
"Mom always looked at him like he was her whole world. I can't imagine a time that she didn't see him in that light, even in the beginning. She never even glanced at another man after he died, so I like to believe they were meant to be from the start."
You hum and look back down as he turns to a new page.
"Kind of like us."
He chuckles, and you grin as his chest rumbles under your cheek.
"Like us?"
You roll your eyes playfully and take in the picture of Carol kissing Bradley on the cheek as he grimaces. He can't be any older than five or six.
"I've been head over heels since the second I met you, Bradley Bradshaw."
His breath hitches, and he hesitates for a second.
"It wasn't love at first sight? You had to meet me first?" He teases, trying to lighten the mood a bit.
"Well, of course I noticed how handsome you are. But that's not what got me. It was your energy. You lit up the room without even knowing it. You're this ball of light, yet you don't see it. Usually, men who look like you and have a job like yours are insufferable assholes."
He snorts at this and nods.
"Hangman." He murmurs, and you slap his arm lightly.
"Be nice. Anyway, you're genuine and kind. It's always the most radiant people that are hardest on themselves. As soon as you said your name, you had me hook, line, and sinker. I wanted to know every last thing about you, and I'll never get tired of learning who you are."
You barely finish your sentence before he captures you in a searing kiss. You melt into him instantly, and he wonders how he managed to fall in love with an angel.
"Tell me more about them. The good parts that you think of when you want to smile." You mutter, and he looks down at you.
"On Sundays, we always had breakfast together. Dad would make french toast from scratch, and I would help mom squeeze oranges for fresh juice. We always laughed and made a mess, then cleaned it up together. I miss it."
He has a wistful smile, and you kiss the corner of his lips.
"That sounds nice."
He nearly sobbed when he woke up to the smell of syrup the following weekend and found you making french toast with bacon in the kitchen. It's something else you share now, the two of you dancing around each other as you sing 80s songs and giggle.
The Dagger squad walked in on it one day, and they were adopted into the tradition too. They love how Bradley is around you and quickly noticed that you always seem to be touching him somehow.
Whether you're rubbing soothing circles on his skin, resting your legs over his, or playing with his hair, you're always showing some form of physical affection.
One night while cuddled on the couch, Bradley almost melted into a puddle.
You're only half watching the movie on the TV, your hands running through Bradley's curls while his head is in your lap. That's another thing, Bradley loves being held.
Without thinking, you scratch your nails against his scalp and feel him instantly nuzzle further into your thighs.
"Do that again, please."
You do as he asks, and he lets out a soft groan.
"That feels nice. I don't know the last time someone has done that."
He's practically drooling as he says it, and you continue without another word.
He falls asleep not long after, and you smile down at the man who carries the world on his shoulders.
You always seem to know when Bradley needs a hug or to be the little spoon. He doesn't know how you do it, but you'll never catch him complaining.
Like tonight, you just seem to know what he needs even if he doesn't. His feet are heavy as they carry him to the front door of your shared home, and he heaves a sigh before swinging the door open.
It's like you know what kind of day he had, and without a moment's hesitation, you're standing in front of him, ready to take the weight off.
Your arms wrap around him, and he leans into you instantly. You shift slightly to support him and rub your hand up his back.
"Let's take a bath."
He doesn't respond other than a nod against your neck, and you lead him to the bathroom.
He watches as you run a bath with bubbles and salts before stripping down. He sits still as you take his boots off his screaming feet and carefully remove his uniform.
As soon as he's naked, you climb into the bath together, settling into the large garden tub.
You wash his hair as he leans back against you, and he shutters at the sensation. You rub shampoo into the chestnut strands, your nails scratching his scalp the way he loves every so often. He lets you work as the stress seems to be rinsed away with the suds.
The two of you stay there in silence until the water is cold. You don't pry for details, and he's grateful. He doesn't like bringing work home; you're perfectly okay with that. You know if he needs to talk, he will.
He clambers out of the bath, and you dry him off as exhaustion sets in, threatening to consume him before he can even lay down.
"Stay there." You whisper, and he listens as the door opens and closes.
You're back before he can really process you've even left and hand him clean clothes. They're warm from the dryer, and he tries to figure out when you had time to toss them in there. He wonders if you did it before he even got home, a sixth sense you've developed telling you that he would need it.
The two of you get dressed in silence and pad into your bedroom. You pull back the comforter and climb in, opening your arms as an invitation for him. He crawls across the bed and collapses onto your chest, your arms pulling up the blanket to cover the two of you before securely wrapping around him.
He inhales deeply, the aroma of your perfume and laundry detergent muddling his senses. The sheets have just been washed, and you've sprayed his favorite lavender vanilla freshener on the pillows.
You trace his body the way you always do, and he settles in further, almost laying entirely on top of you. You don't mind one single bit; just happy that you're able to be some sort of solace for him as he drifts off.
He never saw himself having this type of relationship; he didn't even want it. But as he lies here with images of you flashing through his subconscious, an overwhelming feeling of safety envelops him, and he knows he was wrong.
Your love makes him want to fall to his knees and repent for the errors in his previous ways, almost sorry that he'd been robbing himself of this for so long. Then again, he figures he probably didn't miss much anyway. Your love is once in a lifetime; he wouldn't have found it with anyone else, even if he wanted to.
Bradley Bradshaw never saw himself as a kind or loving man until you appeared and showed him what love is. Now, he surrenders himself completely. He doesn't know if heaven is real, but he figures this is about as close as he can get.

mine — j. maybank
Tumblr media
short little jj fic bc i've been thinking about this one for dayssss
❝ what if he's written  'mine' on my upper thigh only in my mind ❞
pairing: bf!jj x fem!reader
context: jj gives you a stick and poke tattoo.
words: 321
warnings: tattooing, branding (?), fluff
"quit squirming, mama," jj gently pushes your thigh down to keep it steady as he used a stick and poke kit on your inner, upper thigh just right below your bikini line.
"can you hurry it up, jay?" you ask, eyes watching him carefully.
"give me a sec, i'm almost done," he said, poking little dots into your skin, as he finished up one j.
you still couldn't believe he was able to convince you to let him do this. seriously, who in their right mind let their boyfriend tattoo their initials on them? no one.
no one does this.
but when he promised that he'd let you poke your initials into his bicep, you couldn't exactly say no. especially when he pouted and gave you those cute little puppy dog eyes of his and told you it was to symbolize his infinite love for you.
besides, it's not like you'd come to regret it, right? jj wasn't just your boyfriend, but your best friend. the one person in the world you'd completely laid yourself bare to and still loved and accepted you for exactly who you were.
even if it were to end, at least you'd have a reminder of what it'd felt like to be young and in love.
you were okay with that, right?
"all done," jj gives you his wide toothy grin once he finished up a s after the apostrophe and sat up. "now you're officially mine forever."
you chuckle and kink a brow at him. "oh, is that so?"
"oh yeah," he nods, moving to wrap his arms around you. "you good with that?"
"as long as you are," you let yourself sink back against his warm chest, and glance down at his initials that were now forever carved on your upper thigh.
jj's, the tattoo read.
he smiles, lips placing a soft kiss on your forehead, as he rested his head against yours. "always."

"They call Azriel's behaviour as entitlement towards Elain, yet they ship him with Gwyn! Make it make sense."
Okay. Let's play 'Count the red flags' game!
• Azriel in BC part 1 with Elain:
- envious of his brothers having mates
- uses the 3x3 logic 🚩
- demands why he wasn't given the ' third one' 🚩🚩🚩 (take 3 flags, Az)
- shocks and makes even Rhys pale with his audacity
- dodged the question about Mor 🚩
- arrogantly speaks for Elain, trashes Lucien unnecessarily 🚩🚩
- admits in his thoughts that he hasn't thought of Elain beyond sexual fantasies 🚩
Red flag count: 8
Nearly every thought or action of Azriel that I've added a red flag emoji to, is a result of his obsession with wanting a mate.
Azriel views Elain with the 'mate obsessed' lens. Rhys once said that Azriel would've been asking the question why Mor wasn't his mate for centuries. It's safe to say that he had earlier hoped that Mor would be his mate. After he sees Cass and Rhys officially end up with two Archeron sisters as mates, he immediately jumps ship out of desperation. From mere physical attraction to Elain, to insisting she could be his mate. (Note how he ignored the Mor question from Rhys. A sign he's dodging. A sign he knows he's being irrational.)
• Azriel's BC part 2 with Gwyn:
Enter Gwyneth Berdara.
- They banter
- Something restless in him settles
- His shadows dance to her breath
- She makes him laugh and takes him by surprise
- He finds her irreverence charming
- He reveals he sings
- He visualizes her teal blue eyes lighting up and smiles
- His chest sparks at the image
- He buries the image down deep in his chest, where it glows
- A thing of secret, lovely beauty.
Count the red flags.
....That's right. There are none!
Because Azriel does NOT view Gwyn with the 'mate obsessed' lens. Every action or thought of his, flows naturally, with no inferiority complex or desperation. Therefore, Azriel's toxicity from the first half is glaringly absent.
And this is obvious. Because with Gwyn? He would not be obsessing whether or not she's his mate. He would get to know her (they've already laid the foundation), he would become friends with her, fall for her and be taken by surprise later. I think that's crucial to his arc as well, knowing that love comes before a mating bond.
That is one of the reasons we ship him with Gwyn. Because the glimpses we get of him during every single one of their interactions? It's wonderful.
Because I remember reading the BC and feeling uncomfortable with the first half. At how horrid Az sounded. Then came the second half where there was a drastic shift in tone.
That's where it clicked: This. This is what he is like when he isn't obsessing over something in an unhealthy way. Give us more of that!
It all makes sense. Combine it with all the Gwynriel moments and hints scattered here and there in ACOSF, you have the endgame. ✨

Amnesia | Regulus Black x Reader
ᶻ 𝗓 𐰁 ࣪˖⤷ .𖥔 ݁ ˖ ࣪ ᶻ 𝗓 𐰁 ˖ ⤷
Pairing: Regulus Black x GN!Reader
WC: 666
CW: Angst, talks of break up, not being able to move on, all through Regulus POV, no use of Y/N
Author's Note: honestly I only wrote this bc I wanted to wright something inspired by 5SOS 😭
Summary: Regulus is still dealing with the effects of your break up over a year later.
Tumblr media
₊˚* ੈ✩‧₊˚ ੈ✩‧₊˚༺☆༻*ੈ✩‧₊˚ ੈ✩‧₊˚*
“It's over, Regulus. I can't do this anymore. You don't talk to me anymore, I'm done.”
Your words play over and over in his head, on a constant loop.
He remembers the day you left, the tears streaming down your face. The look of pure defeat. He felt as if he had broken a part of you and it killed him.
He doesn't know why he did it still, why he started to shut down with you. He just felt like if he told you his thoughts that you'd eventually leave him.
That you'd get tired of him and his anxieties, that maybe he would start to bore you.
He still doesn't understand why he thought that especially when you never said or did anything to make him think those things.
Even when you sat there cried and begged him for months to let you in, Regulus just couldn't. He didn't know why he was scared, you had been together for years. He didn't understand why all of the sudden he couldn't talk to you.
He looked around the flat that you had shared. He hasn't changed anything since you left.
It had been over a year but he couldn't bring himself to move to a new flat or change anything about the space you both had occupied.
Regulus liked having reminders that you were once there. The pictures of the two of you that still remain on the walls, along with some of the decor that you two had picked out.
He likes looking at them, he likes feeling the loneliness that they brought him, it reminded him that you're real.
Sirius would come over often trying to get him to go out to the pubs to ‘get out there’ and try and ‘move on’ but Regulus doesn't want to move on.
He wants this last year to be a dream.
He wants to wake up and feel you in his arms, so he could just hold you and never let you go.
Regulus had asked Barty and Evan frequently how you are, if there's anything new in your life.
But he stopped asking three months ago, after they told him you had moved on. That you had been on a few dates with someone and you had made it official.
You were doing fine.
How could you be fine? How could you be okay? You had loved him, right? If all the dreams and promises that you left behind were real then how could you be fine?
Especially when he felt like he couldn't breathe anymore without you.
He'd catch himself thinking about you and your new partner.
He wondered if you were happy. If you ever felt lonely like him. If whenever you and your new partner got into fights would you read the poems and letters he had written for you over the years.
Do you even have them still? Or are they like your relationship with him? Gone.
Regulus liked thinking about the last kiss you had shared. How soft and beautiful it was.
He missed the way that it felt like you consumed him when you kissed. How he could only smell, taste and feel you.
When you would kiss, nothing else mattered. There was nothing else, nobody else on this plant, in this universe, time would stop when you were together.
Regulus was pulled out of his thoughts when there was a knock on the door.
He sighed and stood up figuring it was either Sirius or Barty coming to check on him so he didn't care how he looked.
He probably needed to shave and get a haircut. He was still in his pajamas even though it was the middle of the day but he just could bring himself to really care.
Regulus opened the door and when he saw who it was he felt like all the air had left his lungs and he wished he had cared what he looked like a second ago.
“Hi, Reg.”

She's Alive?!? (Alive may be a stretch LMAO)
HEY FRIENDS, IT'S ME 🥹 (Madeline fills y'all in below the cut)
Safe to say from the absolute radio silence on here for the past month and a half, life has been absolutely kicking me right in the tits. As of today (after telling my principal), I am officially done with teaching at the end of this school year. It's been the strangest feeling ever- while it is such a huge relief to know the tremendous amount of physical and mental stress that teaching has been for me is only 15 days away from coming to an end, it also hurts to think that the thing I once had so much passion and love for has burned out so quickly. I've been having such a hard time coming to terms with the fact that teaching isn't where I want to be anymore, and the teacher guilt in me about it is still eating me alive.
This school year has been so draining for me that the past month I have done the same routine every single day as followed: Wake up, cry going into work, try to make it through the day without having a mental breakdown from kids screaming/ridiculous parent emails/insane requests from the district/one of my kids threatening to bring a gun to school (yes, this did happen, and yes, it's the 3rd grade!!! 🙂), cry on my way home from school, look for jobs and change my resume for the thousandth time and cry again bc no one will hire me, and then go to sleep and do it the next day!! On top of that, I've just been dealing with a lot of other big life things that have taken up so much time/mental energy, I am legit crawling to the finish line that is the last day before summer break.
I will be completely honest with you when I say that I legit have not opened a Google Doc for NTL in a month and a half, and truth be told, I don't know the next time that I will. I truly do miss being on here and all of the wonderful people, and I feel terrible that I have been no where to be found. Thank you to everyone who's sent me a DM or an ask to ask if ya girl is okay, I really appreciate you more than you know 🥺💛
I'm really hoping the summer brings some new peace/inspiration to start writing again, but please know if you don't hear anything from me in the near future, either know 1. I didn't make it out of the school year alive or 2. I am sitting in the sun like a lizard on a hot rock letting all of the stress dissolve from my body until I start to feel like a normal human again 🥴
I love all of you so much, I hope that everything in all of your lives are going well and that I am giving each one of you a big kiss on the forehead and sending you all of my love 🥺💕
ALSO Y'ALL BEST BELIEVE I AM CELEBRATING MY LAST DAY OF SCHOOL WITH A CORONA BC PEDRO WHAT THE FUCKKKKKKK 😩

More thoughts on TLG episodes
The Savannah Summit:
First things first, major kudos to Makuu for actually being responsible and caring about what’s best for his float
You really can’t blame Kion and everyone else to be super skeptical about Makuu. I know he changed for the better, but he’s done…a lot since he beat Pua
“but to invite him to the Savannah Summit? With all these other peaceful animals?”—I hate to break it to you, Kion, but just bc an animal is an herbivore doesn’t mean they’re peaceful and friendly. If anything, it means survivor
Crocs at the Summit worked with Pua cuz everybody loves him 😎
“Makuu has more enemies than friends!”—So does Bunga lmao
The song is great. I love how everyone seems annoyed at first but near the end, it’s all 🎶Kumbaya, my lord! 🎶. Except Makuu…dude looks like he’s lowkey regretting his life choices he did NOT ask for a bs song
I’m totally on Makuu’s side. He was genuinely trying to be civil here, especially when it comes to Bupu
At least Beshte was trying to be the mediator cuz he looks at Makuu AND Bupu, Kion was just being kinda speciesist
Shut up, Bupu, you started the whole thing
Vuruga Vuruga saying “buffalo eat whatever we want” is actually pretty accurate. They, like other animals, don’t care. I read that buffalo will occasionally eat insects if it were an option. Even Twiga could sucking on a bone if she wanted to. Seriously, look it up
If Zazu had a nickel for every time a rhino used him as a chair, he’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice (great nod to the OG movie)
Rafiki is such a mood “not the official painting” you old ass gremlin/aff
I remember Athena P criticizing Simba for blaming Kion about ruining the Summit after Makuu understandably leaves and I agree. Wtf Simba he’s 10. Go easy on him, come on 😭
The part that irks me the most is that when Mufasa asks “What has Makuu done to make you think this way?”, Kion says “Nothing, really”. BRO WHAT DO YOU MEAN ‘NOTHING REALLY’?! I understand Mufasa meant what Makuu has done today but there are a LOT of things Makuu’s done in the past that Kion should have told his grandpa. In fact, here’s a whole list:
-Taking over Big Springs when he became leader, resulting in all the animals to scatter
-Challenging kids to fight
-Taking over the flood plains
-Trying to eat Basi which would have been just him being a crocodile if not for the fact that the reason is so he wouldn’t have to follow any rules (says so on the wiki)
-TAKING NALA HOSTAGE (seriously did Simba even KNOW about that? Did Nala or Kion bother to tell him?)
-Generally being a dick to animals
Makuu I know you did nothing wrong in this episode, but you can’t blame Kion for acting this way
I’m not placing any blame on Mtoto. He’s a good boy and all he did was tell the guard what he heard and that’s it
Twiga and Vuruga Vuruga coming up with the trap doesn’t surprise me. Cape buffalo are actually really vengeful irl so it makes sense how she wanted to teach Makuu a lesson. They ain’t called “Black Death” or “Widow Maker” for nothing
It’s cool how Makuu took the prank well. Respect.
Wonder how Makuu felt about animals fighting over him lmao?
Let Sleeping Crocs Lie
Once again this episode would be VERY different if my oc Piga was still alive
Kiburi has a right to be mad. I’m not excusing what he does later in the episode but I’d be pissed too if someone woke me up
Okay but Nduli sleeping next to Kiburi is adorable. Adds to my hc how close they are
Serious question: Why exactly can’t the crocs go back to sleep after they’ve been woken up? The obvious answer is bc it drives the plot forward, but is it true in actual crocodiles? I kinda wanna know the scientific reason
Good on Makuu for going the pacifism route. He’d really do anything for his float
Love how Kiburi was like “Yeah yeah, whatever you say” but the second Makuu left, he was like “ANARCHY!”
Idk if any of you caught this, but when Ushari’s like “we reptiles will rule the pridelands under your leadership, right?” Scar actually hesitated before going “sure bud”. That makes me think he was going to betray Ushari the moment he and his army get rid of Simba and the Lion Guard
Crocs really DO need a lot of water, otherwise their lives are on the line. Makuu was really more concerned than upset
“KIBURI! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”—Fighting a child, what’s it look like
Side hc: I like to think something similar happened with Pua, Piga, and Kujivunia. Pua saw Piga antagonizing some poor young animal and he was all “Piga! What in the Pridelands do you think you’re doing?” and Kujivunia (who happened to be there), with her typical sarcasm was like “Performing a dance number, Pua 🙄”
There go the skinks again. Njano with his cuteness and Shupavu…doing her best Grinch face
“At least you’ll be close to all your friends!”Awww Beshte trying to be positive 🥺
Kiburi saying “we crocs deserve better!” brings me back to my hc that Kiburi had good intentions (again, until further in the episode), he just went about it the wrong way. He’s almost like an activist in a way. He’s not trying to be selfish, he just wanted a better watering hole. Now going as far as to rule the Pridelands…..yeah too far
The background crocodiles who were like 😦 when Kiburi called for the mashindano are so me. I’m the one going “Ooooooh shit!”
Still not getting over that super gay conversation between Kiburi and Ushari
STILL CAN’T GET OVER HOW KIBURI AND HIS FLOAT LAUGH AAAAA (Neema’s laugh tho)
Nduli looks so derpy I love him
I LOVE HOW SELF-AWARE TAMKA IS WHAT AN ICON
Lmao Nduli just gave up like “Fuck it you win”
Love the parallels of Makuu pinning down Kiburi like he did to Pua
Kiburi, I love you but what the hell did you expect? You literally confessed to like 500 animals about your plan and then you get surprised when Simba and Makuu banish you? What did you think was gonna happen? You got way too cocky, I swear
Saying this again, Tamka and Nduli looked worried/traumatized when they were exiled
“Now you’re calling me a reptile?”—My love, you ARE a reptile. I thought crocodiles were supposed to be smart omg
Kiburi’s actually showing emotion for the first time
OMG JANJA HEY BABY HOW ARE YOU?
Full disclosure: “I have a plan” is mediocre at best. It has nothing on Be Prepared. That being said, I love Kiburi’s “Aiight I’m in” smile
That’s pretty much it. Maybe I’ll do more in the future

Aaaaaaaa I honestly need to know absolutely everything about the royal au!!! I don’t even have a specific question I just would love to hear any of your thoughts on everything. Also I love your art so much!! I might make fanart :p (that’s a big maybe I’ve got massive art block right now but if my brain functions correctly I absolutely will.) 🧡🧡🧡
Hello hi I DO have more :D I have a little pocket notebook that’s been my brainstorming and planning book that I’ve put all the ideas for this au in so far and I’m sure I’ve missed a few points so
There is art in this post, it’s Abram post-Evermore with a knife and very little control of his actions so I’ll stick it under the cut, at the end with some more angst 🙏 ANYWAY let’s see what we got
I haven’t colored it so you can’t tell but the twins frequently wear all white with silver embellishments as official/fancy outfits. They look ethereal. That’s all, next point
Most of them are still bi/multilingual but once again only some of their languages overlap. (I’m going to be keeping all the languages real/ones used in canon for clarities sake but who knows what they actually are in this universe.) Day and Abram can speak some Japanese, Abram doesn’t know a ton, but they only use it if they really really need privacy. Neither of them like using it. They also know some French (again, Abram not as much as Day) and Wymack knows some too (bc diplomacy or smth) and the twins and Nicky (Nicholas?) still know German. I also want Abram to start out knowing a fair amount of Russian (maybe from another ‘coworker’) just because I think it’d be fun, I dunno if that’ll change. These combinations can be used in any amount of fun ways I think
So there’s the obvious rule of ‘don’t get too close to the royal family’ right. Just the basic safety thing. But there’s that rule and then there’s the rule for Prince Andrew, where EVERYONE knows you do not touch the prince. With the king or queen or Duke Nicholas someone could always come forward, pay their respects, or even ask for a dance or something, I’ve decided they’re pretty lax about that kind of thing. But with the prince you can only offer your hand or something and he might just decide Not to shake your hand or whatever. And RIP to whoever tries to touch him without permission. So basically canon. When early story Abram first becomes familiar with this - while he’s still under Day’s supervision - he kind of looks at his arms-length perception of the prince and assumes it’s a ‘holier-than-thou’ bit, that the prince doesn’t want to touch the unwashed masses. One time Abram - Nathaniel at the time - approaches him too quickly too close (for some reason idk) and all Andrew can remember is Day’s heavy warning that no one get too close to Nathaniel without being accompanied and yeah, thinking back to their meeting that sounds about right, so Andrew immediately takes out one of his own hidden blades and stabs it into the table between them. Nathaniel stops short. Andrew says, “I am so clear, and yet people like you must think I’m lying. I don’t like being touched, Wesninski, and I’ll appreciate you to keep your distance.” And EVEN THEN Abram doesn’t realize exactly what that means but he’s a lot more careful after that.
Speaking of: what does make it clear is much later, maybe after Abram becomes officially Abram, they’re out in a parade or at a bazaar or something similar and the prince is in immediate danger, like something-is-falling-and-Andrew’s-gonna-get-crushed type thing, so Abram pulls him to safety. But they’ve been out in public where it’s loud and there’s too many people for long enough that Andrew can’t really help his harsh reaction, and it’s raw enough that Abram realizes “oh he’s serious serious.” So after that he adds ‘don’t let people get too close to or surprise the prince’ to his list of duties.
Okay okay not only does Abram wear a corset but the prince also frequently wears lace up/corset vests to parties and stuff (it’s probably what gives him the idea for Abram’s outfit). But yeah eventually instead of like Aaron or someone else trusted doing it up Andrew asks if Abram will help and pretends to be annoyed when Abram asks twice that it’s really okay, but as we all know he appreciates it and even secretly lets Abram decide for him; (“how much tighter, Your Highness?” “How does it look?” “”Hm. …I do rather think you look ball-worthy more often than not. Still - a little more?”) And then later when Abram gets his gifted outfit he expresses its convenient, but rather a shame it laces from the front, and then can only smile when Andrew tells him it is in fact wearable either way.
And yes. Confident no-need-to-hide-his-personality Abram accidentally flirts like A Lot (because why would he hide his opinion, he does think the prince looks good (just not for the purely aesthetic reasons he thinks it is past a point ya know 👀)) and Andrew is so frustrated because it’s an accident until one day it isn’t. Rip Your Highness
WAIT BACK TO NICKY. idk what to call him here, the twins can still call him Nicky but he’s probably formally/publicly known as Nicholas or Nick. Since the world is a little less heteronormative, Luther does not have an issue with Nicky’s sexuality but he is livid that Nicky is trying to get with a commoner. Specifically a cute baker from the next town over that sometimes comes to do the medieval equivalent of catering at the castle for events or something idk. BUT as soon as Luther’s out of the picture for whatever reason Aaron and Andrew have no issue letting their cousin be “abroad” or “off on business” in about as vague of terms for like. A long while at a time. How official and professional of Duke Nicholas. Mhm. No, they will not be taking any more questions
In this au Abram and Aaron are neither friends nor enemies, Aaron would just really love to associate with Abram as little as possible and Abram’s totally fine with that. Absolute masters of staying in their lanes. But when Katelyn gets a little too drunk at a party and wanders away from Aaron and Wilds, for way too long, and Aaron starts getting worried - where is my wife I hope she’s okay - Abram’s found her and has been watching her. Wilds can see Aaron’s relief when he realizes that, because yeah they’re not friends but Aaron knows for a fact that Abram will take as good care of Katelyn as he ever does of Andrew, maybe even more so. That Does Not Mean he likes him any more than he does currently tho. (This becomes a frequent occurrence. Party Queen, Her Majesty Katelyn Minyard)
The prince asks, “When do you relax, Abram.” “Occasionally when I am off duty.” “Are you not off duty now?” Abram smiles. “I am off duty when the only person’s safety in my hands is my own, Your Highness.” (Where does this go? Completely up to you, have a blast)
Okay moving onto the angst.
Abram cannot outrun his past forever, especially since he’s not running at all. And not just from the Moriyamas. I don’t know how, but maybe someone in the general castle ranks figures out where Abram comes from and is (rightfully, unfortunately) immediately on edge. It ends in a mob of castle workers/knights/etc finding Abram and bringing him to the king, queen, and prince, announcing that this man comes from Evermore, he must be a spy, he must be just waiting for an opportunity to cause the royal family harm. He’s stolen into the prince’s good graces with the worst of intentions. And the issue is: I don’t think Day ever told the family he knew this. He kept it hushed for a while as to not cause a panic (part of the reason he was ever lenient and gave Abram a chance was obviously because he himself was in almost the exact same position). And then when Abram proved himself trustworthy he didn’t want to ruin Abram’s chances at having a fresh start. So as far as Aaron and Andrew are aware, the mob is right. That doesn’t make it easier for them - they all trust Abram as much as Day does, they suspect now that Day might have known given his initial reaction to Abram, but what does that matter when Abram’s proven his loyalty so many times - and in the confusion, Andrew has no damn idea what to do. He can hear Aaron whisper beside him, “Andrew,” but even if the mob is right Andrew can’t bring himself to be the one to execute any sort of judgement. He returns, “this is your jurisdiction. Tell me your decision once you’ve made it.” And he can’t stay there any longer. Abram watches him leave silently from the center of the mob.
But Aaron doesn’t want Abram hurt either. He’s sure there must be some misunderstanding, he needs to talk this over with his advisors. So he does nothing more rash than send them all to leave Abram in a holding cell until they can figure it out. When Andrew hears about this, he gives himself the full day to make sure he’s got his head in order before going down to the basement. Abram hardly moves from his place in the corner of the cell. Andrew asks for an explanation and for once, Abram has nothing to say. Nothing more than Andrew’s heard already, he says. Once again, Abram waits to be served a death warrant. And again it is refused him. After it’s more or less cleared up, the biggest issue is getting the general public to even begin to trust their prince’s closest servant again.
(Read a snippet of their conversation in the cell here since this is already so long lol)
Lastly. It’s a good thing, I think, that Day put himself in charge of Abram immediately once he’s back from Evermore. Not for Andrew’s sake this time, though that’s still certainly the case, but I kind of think Abram would have come out worse on the other side even despite Andrew’s best intentions and efforts. And the issue would be that Andrew is too patient and careful with his words. Because while he’s recovering (specifically his sight) Abram is a danger to both himself and the people around him. Like this.
Tumblr media
Neither Day nor Andrew are afraid to get a few cuts or bruises; the difference is Andrew would have tried to hold him too gently, just take the blade by force and it probably would have ended with more superficial wounds on them both than Day’s approach. Meanwhile Day isn’t afraid to do what he needs to do to get results. Once he realizes the extent of the trauma around ‘if you are like a dog you will be as obedient and loyal as one’, he can use that. Instead of trying to take the knife by force here, all Day has to do is say “Nathaniel, drop it,” sharply enough, and Abram’s muscles react before his head can. I don’t know how long it would take for Andrew to resort to the same thing. If that makes sense, anyway, I might be wrong on this one. (It’s one of the things I’d have to put a lot of thought and maybe even writing into to be sure of.) Anyway if Andrew heard this happen he’d be incredibly angry, but Day never uses it without very, very good reason. It keeps Abram from hurting himself too much.
So that’s like all the extra random points I had in my book :D once again, no idea where they fit in a timeline but they’re here in my head floating freely around on colorful inner tubes, occasionally bumping into each other. I really appreciate you enjoying this so much, I hope it is everything you wished and more 🥰 also omg… if you make art I’d DIE to see it, I’d be so honored 🥹

okay but nancy’s reaction to robin at the library front desk makes so much sense for her character. karen is affectionate with her, and tries her best, but we saw in season 1 that she really struggled to communicate with nancy and only really got to openly communicating with her about her feelings by season 3. and karen and ted clearly haven’t been a very good example of communicating how you’re actually feeling and what you’re actually thinking. so nancy is really not good at communicating (we see this with mike too). nancy didn’t really open up about her feelings about all of the events of season 1 until she got blackout drunk a year later. and we can tell she’s still not super accustomed to heart-to-hearts in season 3 when she says “I don’t need a jonathan byers pep talk right now, I need to be on time,” which shows how much more used to having emotional conversations jonathan is, bc he’s always having them with joyce and will, whereas nancy rarely talks about her feelings with karen and pretty much never with mike.
so imagine being that unfamiliar with open emotional communication, being so used to passive aggression and keeping personal stuff to yourself, and then within the first ten minutes of meeting robin she just starts being like “hi I feel like you’re annoyed here are my insecurities and anxieties and where they come from and how my mother reinforces them” like nancy probably feels like she got hit by a bus in that moment, like she’s SO out of her depth. and it’s played for laughs but it’s kinda sad that robins like “here is plain open communication immediately” and nancy’s just like “what the fuck is that what is happening” like she is so bewildered by someone being clear and open so quickly bc she’s so personally closed off. and it is v painful a a viewer to watch her be rude to robin when robins trying her best to understand what’s happening, but even though it’s not the kind response I think its the in character response and it makes sense that nancy’s immediate response is a little passive aggressive bc there’s a lot of passive aggression in her house.
and like lbr robin probably did hurt nancy’s feelings a little by calling her idea a shot in the dark bc nancy’s intelligence is very important to her so she probably feels like robin was calling her dumb which probably hurt her and her response is to be a little bitchy bc that’s what she’s learned! (and mike does it too throughout the whole show, which also shows how it’s learned from the environment they both grew up in). so it’s so cool to see that scene bc yes it’s played for laughs but also it’s a really concise look into how nancy and robin each respond differently to their feelings being hurt. when nancy feels insulted she gets snippy and when robin feels like nancy’s being a little rude she’s like “let’s talk about why!” and nancy has no idea what to do with that. anyway I just appreciated that point of consistency in nancy’s character and think it’s really interesting how you can see how each character’s upbringing affects them (especially nancy and mike and how similar their communication skills—or lack thereof—are).
also makes it very sweet to see the slow progress. like nancy still being snippy even as she opens up to robin more: “so maybe I did flinch or wince or something!” but then she does eventually get soft and vulnerable too when she says “does that make us… friends? like, officially?” like she seems so hesitant and nervous to put that out there openly but robins been so open with her that she goes for it! and then when robin takes her hand she looks surprised but then eases into it and is able to be open and comfort her and responds well to robins vulnerability by the end of the season!! UGH their relationship is so important to me. okay sorry this was just supposed to be about nancy not ronance but here we are anyway lol okay have a good day thanks if you read all this lmao

TBB S3 E4 Recap and Reaction
- Poor Crosshair keeps getting stuck on cold planets.
- Batcher banging on the chair ready to get out 🤣🤣
- These shuttles are really interesting to me. It’s rare to see a ship that size that can be piloted by two different people.
- Baby girl, I totally understand your logic in wanting to pull the data logs to see where Tantiss actually is, but given how tactful we know Hemlock has been so far in keeping his location hidden, most likely it wouldn’t pull up anything.
- What a dreary spaceport. Feels very Andor and very like Norwegian Star Wars.
- The level of snark that Omega is giving back to Crosshair is cracking me up. We don’t see her showing this level of talking back or being sarcastic with any of the other Batchers, which proves my theory that Crosshair’s constant level of highly annoyed at everything around him brings out the sarcasm in everyone else he encounters.
- Love that his knowledge as a former imperial is coming to play to help them.
- Also love that Omega was the one to recognize that they need different clothes (and the obvious pan of the camera on the clothes hanging on the line in the first shot of the spaceport to accentuate that fact).
- Quilted clothes in Star Wars is my fave (yes more Andor parallels).
- The uplilt and little scoff that Omega gives and the look she gives Batcher after Crosshair snarls about bringing “the hound” along is PRECIOUS
- Also Cross and Omega cross their arms the same way. Okay okay I’ll never be over their dynamic here.
- Crosshair’s trucker hat/scuba apparatus is hilarious. He doesn’t look too bad though. Surely he’s at least warmer now.
- The credits negotiation omg. I love how Cross is just waiting for this to play out before he makes a move.
- YES omg are my baby girls strategy skills FINALLY coming back into play??
- Oh no no no no no this kid is going to rat them out isn’t he. You guys need to be more mindful of your surroundings!! Ahhh (okay I’m glad this didn’t happen).
- Honestly at this point Crosshair would be me as well. Just lots of very annoyed sighing.
- I love that Crosshair is getting to see all the things about Omega that the other boys know already, but he hasn’t had a chance to witness yet. We know she can wipe the floor with most people on strategy games/gambling.
- Yep nope this captain is not good news. Don’t get distracted by ranting about Imperial bribery, don’t do it, don’t….*sigh* I hate the Empire so much.
- Oh no this is so bad! I swear WHY is every imperial such a slimy self aggrandizing POS.
- Aww Crossy hunched down at almost table level ready to tear the room apart if anyone touches his baby sister. Adorable murder kitten. 😸
- Also Crosshair when all of this is over: where the HELL did you learn to gamble like that!?! Omega: 🤷🏻‍♀️😇😁
- Also also what game are they playing? Those cards are beautiful.
- Oh no they’ve found the shuttle already. Dear god this episode is so stressful!!
- CROSS!DAD IS OFFICIALLY CANON lmao
- Okay I was hoping Omega would let him win bc this isn’t going to go over well
- Whoa I didn’t actually expect him to concede. Maybe he’s not quite as slimy as I thought. Doesn’t matter though, the shuttle will give them away regardless.
- Of course. There it is. Let all the seedy businesses thrive as long as you get your fine out of it. Ugh. This is paralleling a lot of imperial activities in Rebel Rising and the Ahsoka novel as well.
- I also love how Omega uses touch with Crosshair to calm him down and communicate with him.
- Whoa I did not expect Omega to throw the credits and basically give Crosshair the choice of abandoning her or not. Nor for him to actually have to think about it for a moment.
- “My skills are being wasted” the boy does not like feeling helpless. I understand.
- This is going to give Cross some understanding of what Hunter has been going through the last few years. Especially if he ends up losing her.
- “Don’t push it” and the extra head shake after lmao.
- Geez this man is just lining his pockets every which way isn’t he. Despicable.
- “Alright, let’s try things your way” “Finally” I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
- Animal stampede!
- Oh gosh is Cross going to get left behind??
- Aw he finally called her Batcher.
- We are clearly seeing how much Omega has actually been tempered by the rest of the Batchers being around her until now. The unfiltered combined powers of Omega and Crosshair at their most unhinged is maybe more than the galaxy is ready for 🤣🤣
- Also a very Andor reference with the captain being stampeded almost to death and having his gun kicked away from him in the melee
- NO WAY WE FINALLY GET AN IMPERIAL GETTING THEIR DUE BY CREATURE DEATH once again *cough cough* not a kids show
- Awwww Batcher licking Crosshair’s face. He’s so done for.
- They got away. Wow. I actually wasn’t expecting that. And with most of the money too.
- Okay. Smart girl. She did not pick Pabu.
- What an ending. Wow. So. Similar to Mando season 3 (which is also scaring me) — what the heck is the rest of this season going to be about?
- This reunion is everything. 🥹🥹🥹 the hugs. The running. The tears. The worry. The anger. The hesitation. The fear. The literal and metaphorical distance between their ships that someone will have to cross. They better not fast forward a millisecond when the next episode picks up I swear.

Make Me See
yaya6765 asked:
hey girl, your work is amazing <3 i had a request for neteyam x fem! nav'i reader, where reader has been best friends with kiri since childhood, and she and neteyam don't get along at all. reader recently had her coming of age ritual, and she is finding out ways with kiri to reject potential suitors. and neteyam is trying to get neytiri off his back as well. so kiri and lo'ak suggest that they pretend to court each other for a couple weeks, in order to send gossip overload to the village and get everyone off their back. reader and neteyam reject the idea immediately but then get competitive and place a bet that whoever falls for each other at the end of the deal is a loser or smthg. ends with them confessing their feelings ? thank you!!!!
Anonymous asked:
Hi can I request a Neteyam fic with his female mate where he is upset about something not necessarily his dad or family, just slightly overwhelmed with everything and one day his mate can't find him anywhere for a long time but eventually she does find him deep in the forest near the water lying down looking at he sky. She lies down next to him and asks him where he has been, he just points to this spot not in a talking mood, so dhe moves behind him and pulls him between her llegs so he can rest his head on her stomach and runs her hands through his hair to help him relax. He tries to relax but the pressure of everything is a lot and tears form in his eyes and she can hear his tail moving rapidly she looks down at him and pulls him closer to her letting him lie on her to hear her heartbeat whilst she rubs his forehead softly and kisses him gently and he falls asleep as he feels more relaxed and comfortable knowing that she is there for him? Thanks 😊

Tumblr media
Your relationship with the Sully children is interesting, having a unique dynamic with each sibling. Kiri and you first became friends when both of you had separately wandered off into the forest, just old enough to be trusted to go off on your own. Your paths crossed when Kiri was gathering plants her grandmother asked for and you fell out of the tree you were climbing in pursuit of the syaksyuk that stole your snack.
Instead of screaming and running away, Kiri calmly made sure you were okay before asking you to be her friend. You agreed immediately, then asked her to help you find the thieving syaksyuk that caused you to fall out of the tree. The two of you never caught the syaksyuk, but you did become practically inseparable after that adventure.
Spending a lot of time with Kiri meant spending a lot of time with her brothers, Neteyam and Lo’ak. They’re both annoying in their own ways, but Lo’ak is tolerable. But Neteyam is just irritating, the entire time you’ve known him you have never not been irritated by his presence.
Since your ceremony becoming one of The People, allowed to carve your bow from the wood of Kelutral (you’re still not sure how you’re supposed to do that) and officially begin courting, you’ve been avoiding every potential suitor. It’s not hard, you can spot most of them from far away with a nervous look in their eyes and a carefully crafted accessory of some sort. Except one of them snuck up on you on your way to meet Kiri, and you’re not sure if you have the heart to reject the others you've been avoiding.
“Kiri, I’m serious! He looked like he was about to cry,” you say, trudging behind her through the forest.
“I believe you! It’s just funny to think about you making him cry,” Kiri says, laughing as she lays down in the middle of the grassy clearing she found.
“It wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be to make him cry,” you sigh, laying down beside her to stare up through the trees.
“You’ll get used to it once you turn down the fifth one,” Kiri says, her tone bordering on sarcastic.
“Yeah? I don’t think I can get through another one,” you say, not wanting to relive the most awkward conversation of your life.
“Are you just gonna give the next one a pity ‘yes’ then?” Kiri asks.
“No, maybe, i don’t know,” you answer, turning over to hide your face in your arms, your tail flicking back and forth in frustration.
“Watch it,” Kiri says, smacking your tail away from her after you accidentally hit her.
“Sorry, I just don’t know what to do,” you groan, tucking your tail under your arms to hide with your face.
“We’ll think of something, don’t worry,” Kiri says, softly stroking your back to comfort you.
The two of you begin listing ideas, but none of them are any good. Eventually Kiri falls silent, you think she’s out of ideas but really she just fell asleep. Oblivious, you continue to rattle off ideas, each one worse than the last.
“My best options are to avoid all of them forever or give the next one a pity ‘yes’ and hope that by putting on a cold, distant demeanor I can drive them away,” you say, sitting up quickly now that you’ve narrowed down your options.
“Which would you pick?” You ask Kiri before looking and realizing she had been asleep the whole time.
“Kiri! Wake up!” You shake her, trying to get her to wake up.
“Ugh, why?” Kiri whines, sitting up to get you to stop moving her.
With Kiri still half asleep and you too focused on getting her opinion, neither of you notice the three approaching the clearing. Spider and Lo’ak had been looking for the two of you for a while, knowing neither of you remembered the plans you all had made earlier. Neteyam joined the two when they asked him if he’d seen either of you, since he had seen you and Kiri run off into the forest earlier.
“What are you two fighting about now?” Lo’ak asks once they enter the clearing the two of you sit in.
“We’re not fighting,” you answer, quickly turning around to see the three that just arrived.
“Y/n’s suitors,” Kiri answers at the same time as you, pushing you away as soon as your attention is diverted from her.
“Like she has any,” Neteyam scoffs, the other two laughing as they all sit down with you and Kiri.
“Actually, the problem is she has too many,” Kiri defends you as you begin to fume silently beside her at Neteyam’s words.
“Ooh!” Lo’ak and Spider tease, seeing Neteyam’s angry face when Kiri corrects him.
“Yeah, a lot of people actually like being around me, believe it or not,” you say, knowing the vexation is mutual between you and Neteyam.
“I can’t imagine why,” Neteyam quips, and somehow you remain seated despite desperately wanting to wring his neck.
“If you just treated all of them like you treat Neteyam you wouldn’t have this problem,” Kiri says, laughing at the two of you.
“Or, her and Neteyam could fake it and solve both of their problems,” Lo’ak suggests, knowing Neteyam has been trying to dodge the subject every time he talks to their mom.
“No way,” you immediately disagree.
“Absolutely not,” Neteyam says at the same time as you.
“Shut up, Lo’ak, this isn’t one of Sempul’s dumb bedtime stories,” Kiri scolds him, knowing exactly which story he got the idea from.
“I think it could actually work,” Spider says, supporting Lo’ak’s suggestion.
“Thanks, bro,” Lo’ak says, the two of them doing a weird hand thing.
“Now that I think about it,” Kiri begins to say.
“Please don’t,” you say.
“Most, if not all, of the guys would back off if they hear Neteyam is courting you,” Kiri finishes despite your pleading.
“And Sa’nok would stop trying to set Neteyam up with all of the hotties,” Lo’ak says, earning a smack to the head from Neteyam.
“I hate that it would actually work,” Neteyam says after a bit.
“The Great Mother must hate me if this is my best option,” you say, unable to think of anything else.
“Are you two gonna do it or not?” Spider asks impatiently.
Everyone is quiet, waiting for you or Neteyam to respond. Silently, you and Neteyam communicate through your eyes, sizing each other up. Finally coming to a conclusion, you speak.
“I want a nice necklace,” you demand.
“Bracelet,” Neteyam counters.
“Anklet.”
“Armband.”
“Necklace.”
“Fine.”
“Fine.”
Both of you quickly leave the clearing in opposite directions after coming to an agreement, leaving Kiri, Lo’ak, and Spider stunned.
“I can’t believe they actually listened to me,” Lo’ak says, still in disbelief.
“There’s no way they’ll last long,” Spider says, knowing one of you most likely will blow up on the other and ruin the plan.
“Why would they listen to me?” Lo’ak asks no one.
“Guys!” Kiri interrupts the two as they begin to spiral. “They’ll be fine. They’re both good actors. What we should be worried about is if it works too well,” Kiri says, confusing the two in front of her.
“What do you mean?”
“How could it work ‘too well’?” They ask at the same time.
“I think they’ll actually fall for each other,” Kiri says confidently, Lo’ak and Spider laughing at her words.
“There’s no way!” Lo’ak begins to say, cut off from his own laughing.
“No fucking way!” Spider adds.
“They will kill each other before they fall for each other!” Lo’ak finishes.
“Wanna bet?” Kiri wagers.
“What are we betting?” Lo’ak asks, interested now.
“I want in!” Spider says.
“I say Neteyam falls for y/n first. If I win I want you two to do my chores for two weeks,” Kiri answers.
“I say they blow it. Make it a month,” Lo’ak says.
“I say y/n falls first, and if I win you guys have to stop your mom from trying to kill me next time something bad happens,” Spiders says.
“Oh, Spider,” Kiri says, pitying the boy.
“Sa’nok won’t even give us a chance,” Lo’ak says, his words not making the boy feel any better.
Thankfully, it doesn’t take long for Neteyam to make your necklace. He only has to have one conversation with his mother about someone’s daughter before he tells her he has already chosen. Neytiri is ecstatic, offering him all kinds of materials to make your gift and guessing who before leaving him alone when he gets annoyed.
Somehow you manage to avoid the handful of would-be rejects, barely ever going out alone so that you have a buffer. It’s why you spend most of your time with Kiri and Tuk, knowing no one will want to come up to you while you are with the Olo’eyktan’s daughters. Not like you don’t spend most of your time with them anyway.
It’s not unusual to find you with Kiri and Tuk in the Tsahìk’s healing tent. With the ongoing war against the RDA, Mo’at didn’t mind an extra helper. The three of you were preparing various ingredients for Mo’at, knowing that once the injured begin to trickle in they would have to work quickly.
Mo’at is able to handle the first few that wander in, but once Neteyam arrives almost everyone is busy. Except you, sending off the warrior you just finished treating. He walks over to you quickly, knowing the sooner he gets it over with, the better.
“I made this for you,” he says, voice gruff from overuse during the raid.
“Huh?” You turn around, confused and caught off-guard.
“I made this for you. Do you accept?” Neteyam asks, holding the necklace out to you.
“You’re bleeding,” you say, noticing the blood slowly trickling down his arm, barely avoiding staining the necklace in his hand.
“Shit,” he says, not having realized when he fell that he fucked up his arm that badly.
“Sit,” you instruct, grabbing a few things for his wound.
“Your necklace—” he begins to say, trying to offer it to you again when you grab his arm to begin tending to the injury.
“Can wait. Besides, you can’t exactly tie it for me when your arm is like this,” you interrupt, working quickly.
“Right,” he says, moving it to his other hand awkwardly while you work.
“Okay, all done,” you say after a bit, tying off the wrap for his arm.
“Will you take the necklace now?” He asks.
“Yes,” you answer, turning around and moving your hair so that he can tie it for you.
“Is it too tight?” He asks before he ties the first knot.
“It’s fine,” you answer, feeling the delicate beading of the accessory around your neck.
“It looks good,” he says when you turn around, admiring his work.
“Thank you,” you say, and he only nods before leaving the tent.
There’s not much time for you to dwell on the interaction, other warriors needing your attention. You get back to work, and soon enough all of the warriors have been seen. Cleaning up isn’t fun, but it has to be done. It’s not so bad, all of you making small talk about the warriors that just came through.
“Y/n, were you wearing that necklace earlier?” Tuk asks, helping you clean one of the mats.
“No, actually,” you answer, your face getting hot as you recall your prior interaction with Neteyam.
“Who gave it to you?” Kiri goads, knowing the answer already.
“Neteyam,” you say, hesitating a bit.
“AHHH!” Tuk shrieks excitedly, practically tackling you when she hears your answer.
“Tuk! Get off of her!” Kiri scolds her younger sister, and Tuk quickly lets go of you.
“Oh, Eywa, I thought I was about to join you,” you groan dramatically as you sit upright.
“Sorry! I’m just so happy for you and Neteyam!” Tuk apologizes to you.
“It’s fine, but we’re just courting,” you tell her, knowing it won’t lead to lifelong mates like she believes.
“Who are you courting?” Mo’at asks, entering the tent after taking one of the warriors back to their own tent.
“Neteyam,” you answer, a bit nervous for her reaction.
“And what did he say?” Mo’at asks, moving around the tent to organize her supplies.
“He asked me,” you say, not sure if you should be offended at this point or not.
“And you said yes?” Mo’at asks, and Kiri can’t hold in her laugh.
“Sorry, grandmother,” Kiri says when Mo’at looks at her, confused.
“Why is Tuk the only one happy for me?” You ask, trying to be convincing.
“Because she is too young to realize you can do better,” Kiri teases.
“But he’ll be the next Olo’eyktan after Sempul. No one’s better than that,” Tuk defends her oldest brother.
“I don’t care about that,” you say, not wanting to come off as shallow.
“Not everything is about status, Tuk,” Mo’at begins to say. “But it is a surprising match.”
It doesn’t take long for the news to travel through the village, but Jake and Neytiri still haven’t heard when they return for dinner. As the kids begin to trickle in, their excitement has already died down. Except Tuk, who is upset that you won’t be attending dinner.
“Neteyam! Go ask y/n to eat dinner with us!” Tuk demands, running up to her brother as soon as she enters the tent.
“Why?” Neteyam asks, having blocked out his earlier interaction with you.
“Because you’re courting her,” Tuk answers, as if that meant he had to invite you to dinner.
“Kiri’s y/n?” Neytiri asks as soon as Tuk is done talking.
“Why is she mine?” Kiri asks, no one acknowledging her question.
“Yes,” Neteyam answers Neytiri’s question, ignoring Kiri.
“Hm,” is all she says, going back to cooking.
“What do you mean by that?” Neteyam asks, having thought his mom would be more excited for him.
“Didn’t the two of you used to use each other as target practice?” Jake asks, knowing that the two of you have never really seen eye to eye with each other over the years.
“Yes, but—” Neteyam says, about to defend you.
“I just thought you would choose someone else, but if the two of you are happy,” Neytiri trails off, shrugging her shoulders.
“We’re very happy,” Neteyam answers, lying through his teeth.
“Is the food almost done?” Lo’ak asks, laid on his side dramatically.
After word got out about you and Neteyam’s courtship the trail of suitors finally disappeared. No longer did you have to constantly look over your shoulder to make sure there wasn’t anyone with a gift trying to catch you alone. Instead you were followed by stares and whispers, the clan gossiping about the new couple.
Even when you’re with Kiri and Tuk it doesn’t stop, and you’re starting to think maybe it wasn’t such a great idea. Your only reprieve is when Mo’at sends you and Kiri into the forest to gather ingredients. As Kiri leads you into the forest, she tells you about the best reactions to the news, apparently ‘Eäli and Käie took it the hardest, both of them actually crying.
“Ugh, if only they knew how insufferable he actually is,” you say, disgusted by Neteyam’s little fan club.
“He says the same about you,” Kiri teases, knowing neither of you actually mean it. “So what are you gonna make for him?”
“Um, an armband probably,” you say after thinking about it for a bit.
“Hm, I guess that’s fine,” Kiri hums.
“What do you mean by that?” You ask, a bit defensive about your idea.
“It’s just, the necklace he made for you is really pretty. Are you sure an armband will be a proper gift?” She asks, and you realize she’s just messing with you now.
“Oh, shut up,” you say, ignoring her as she laughs.
Despite Kiri’s teasing, you make a nice enough armband for Neteyam. The leather is carefully braided and shaped, you even managed to match the color of the leather to the cord of your necklace. It’s a small detail that will make everything more believable, at least that’s what you tell yourself when you’re rifling through the abundance of leather strips your family keeps.
Even after you’ve finished the present, you’re hesitant to give it to Neteyam. There’s never a right time, and finally you decide it’s easier to just get it over with. So, instead of heading to Mo’at’s tent to help with Kiri and Tuk, you run to see off the warriors.
It’s only a scouting mission, nothing too dangerous, so your lack of presence shouldn’t be detrimental in preparations for the Tsahìk. You wait nervously as Olo’eyktan gives the final orders before they depart, following Neteyam quickly as he calls for his ikran. You make it just as he mounts his ikran, managing to stop him before he leaves.
“Neteyam!” You call his name, getting his attention. “I made this for you,” you say, holding the armband you made for him out so that he can grab it.
“Thank you,” he says, a shocked expression on his face as he accepts your gift.
“Safe flying,” you say, nodding your head as you leave to go to Mo’at’s healing tent to meet up with Kiri and Tuk.
Neteyam quickly puts the armband on, and he can’t help but think of you as he takes off. He hadn’t asked for an armband, and he knows you’re only doing it to keep up the act. But he can’t help the way his stomach flutters as the armband perfectly hugs his bicep, and he realizes you had actually noticed that he lost his previous armband during that raid. When you patched him up and he gave you your necklace.
It’s another day that Kiri drags you out into the forest to do something that totally could’ve been done at home, but when you remember the stares and whispers everytime you’re in one place for too long in the village, you can’t complain. It’s not a long walk to wherever Kiri is taking you, but you worry the two of you might not be able to make it back in time before eclipse since she plans on doing your hair.
“Here, it’s perfect,” Kiri decides, sitting down on the grassy bank of one of the streams that flow through the forest.
“Are you sure you can finish before eclipse?” You ask, sitting in front of her hesitantly.
“Yes, now get closer. I need to be able to touch your hair to do it,” she says, and you quickly scoot back so she can start.
Kiri works fast, which is impressive considering she’s also keeping up with the conversation between the two of you. At least, until Spider and Lo’ak show up. The terror twins really aren’t so bad, but you still don’t like them seeing you like this.
“Damn, that looks painful,” Spider remarks as he sits in front of you and Kiri.
“It is, Kiri did my hair last time and I swear my scalp was numb for a week,” Lo’ak says, over exaggerating his sister’s sadistic tendency when it comes to doing hair.
“Next time it’ll be a month if you complain again, ungrateful brat,” Kiri says, accidentally pulling your hair a bit too rough as she continues to braid.
“Ow! Don’t take it out on me,” you say, hissing in pain.
“Sorry, I’m almost done,” Kiri apologizes quickly.
“Better hurry, it’s almost eclipse, and if you’re not home in time sempul will ground you,” Lo’ak goads Kiri.
“You’ll be grounded too since you’re gonna be just as late as I will,” Kiri reminds him.
“Oh, shit! Let’s go, cuz,” Lo’ak says, jumping to his feet and pulling Spider with him.
“Okay, I’m done. Everything feel okay?” Kiri asks, massaging your scalp a bit before you both leave after Lo’ak and Spider.
“Yeah, I’m good. Thank you, Kiri,” you say, and you both quickly get up to head back, but before you can get far Neteyam comes from where Lo’ak and Spider just left.
“Good, I found you two. Come on, I already sent Lo’ak and Spider back, let’s go,” Neteyam says, grabbing you to make you walk in front of him.
“Don’t touch me,” you grumble, pulling your arm away from him as you catch up to Kiri in front of you.
“Aw, lover’s quarrel?” Kiri teases, laughing when both of you huff in annoyance.
“Shut up,” you groan, tail flicking in frustration, almost hitting Neteyam as he follows closely behind you.
“Watch it,” he warns you, but you just roll your eyes.
“Wow, you guys are so unconvincing. Come on, we’re rooting for you, show us some love,” Kiri says.
“The rest of the village seems convinced,” Neteyam defends the two of you.
“Yeah, for now. But you need to do more than just give each other courting gifts,” Kiri goes on.
“I don’t like where you’re going with this,” you say, knowing Kiri’s about to make an absolutely vile suggestion.
“You two need to go on some dates,” she finally says.
“Ugh.”
“Ew.” You and Neteyam say simultaneously.
“The Hunt Festival is coming up and people are going to think it’s weird if you’re not acting like a couple!” Kiri says, and she has a good point.
“Eywa help me, I completely forgot about that,” you say, realizing you and Neteyam would be expected to spend the celebration together.
“We have time, it will be fine,” Neteyam says, knowing the Hunt Festival isn’t as soon as Kiri is making it out to be.
“Just don’t put it off for too long,” Kiri says, and neither of you say anything after that, having reached the edge of the village.
You and Neteyam both know Kiri is right. If the two of you don’t start acting like more of a couple, the whole facade is ruined. So, the two of you start making your appearances. Making sure you’re seen together and hoping no one hears what the two of you are actually saying to each other with hushed voices.
“This better not take long,” you mutter, grip tightening around Neteyam’s hand as he leads you into the forest quickly, both of you feeling the stares from the village as you leave.
“It would go faster if you weren’t so slow,” he replies, letting go of your hand as soon as both of you are deep enough in the forest to no longer be seen.
The walk through the forest didn’t take long, but with all the bickering it felt like hours.
“You disgust me,” you say, your words the opposite of the happy smile on your face as you laugh and wipe the food off of Neteyam’s face as the two of you eat together.
“I’m not a child,” he says, his tone petulant as he pushes your hand away.
“You eat like one,” you shoot back, your smile turning sly at your own wit.
Neteyam doesn’t respond verbally, only throwing some of his food at you in response. Playfully, you catch it in your mouth, smirking now as you chew it. Neteyam laughs it off, knowing there’s people watching.
“Not that impressive,” he says, underestimating your skill.
“Oh yeah? You try then,” you goad him, hoping this will end with food on his face.
“Go ahead,” Neteyam says, gesturing for you to throw the food.
You actually try aiming it so that he can catch the food, but he fails miserably. Just as you hoped, Neteyam gets food all over his face, and you can’t help but laugh. For some reason, Neteyam doesn’t feel as angry. The sound of your laughter is infectious, and he laughs with you as he wipes the food off his face.
When you and Neteyam go flying, you’re not fighting for once. Instead of the usual harsh digs you exchange lighthearted jabs, and you fall into a comfortable banter as the two of you try one-upping each other with tricks. You’re a show off and Neteyam is competitive, which leads to more than a few dangerous stunts.
At one point Neteyam loses you after a sharp turn, completely oblivious as you fly high above him on your ikran. Just as you practiced, you dive off of your ikran, knowing she’ll catch you just before you hit the treetops. You smile and wave as you fall through the air right in front of Neteyam and his ikran, laughing when you see his expression of horror as you freefall in front of him.
You can’t hear Neteyam’s yelling over the sound of your call for your ikran. But you can guess what he’s saying without much effort. Your ikran flies under you, allowing you to fall onto her back before you can fall into the trees, and it doesn’t take long for Neteyam to fly to your side.
“Shit, y/n! That was insane!” He yells, eyes wide and a stunned smile on his face.
“I know!” You yell back, both of you laughing as you head back to High Camp.
Between your usual responsibilities, preparation duties, and making an outfit suitable for the Hunt Festival, you don’t have much time for Neteyam. The hunters of the clan provide plenty of meat for the celebration, there’s barrels of swoa made, and fruits and vegetables are gathered for the feast as well.
Surprisingly, you actually miss him, having gotten used to being around him the past few weeks. Neteyam misses you too, thinking of you as he hunts with the other hunters, providing the talioang meat for the feast. Even when he assures himself that he will see you that night at the festival, he still can’t focus, but still manages to make his shot.
Finally finished helping set up, you and Kiri are dismissed to get ready. You change quickly, knowing Kiri and Tuk would be coming to your tent as soon as they changed to get ready with you. Your mother helped you make your outfit, the delicate beading of your top matching the necklace Neteyam gave you.
The Sully girls compliment your outfit as soon as they arrive, ooh-ing and ahh-ing when they see you. Tuk runs to get you flowers for your hair that will match your outfit, coming back with several different vibrant choices. You let her choose which one goes best, and Kiri carefully attaches it to your hair.
“Do you want a flower in your hair as well, Tuk?” You ask her, catching her staring at the flowers still on the floor in front of you.
“Yes!” She answers eagerly, sitting down in front of you.
You carefully secure the flower in her hair, and Kiri moves around you to see your work.
“You look so pretty, Tuk!” Kiri compliments her younger sister.
“Thank you Kiri! Thank you y/n!” Tuk says, jumping up quickly to run ahead of the two of you to the feast.
“Of course, Tuk!”
“We’ll see you at the festival!” You and Kiri call out to her as she runs away.
“Are you sure you and Neteyam are ready for this?” Kiri asks as the two of you head towards the festival.
“Yeah,” you say after a moment.
“Why so hesitant?” Kiri asks, and you’re not sure how to respond.
“I don’t know,” you lie, not wanting to admit to Kiri what you’ve been feeling since spending more time with Neteyam.
“Sure, well, good luck tonight,” she says as the two of you arrive at the festival, leaving you to join her family.
As soon as Neteyam sees you arrive with Kiri, his attention immediately switches to you, tuning out whatever Lo’ak is saying to him. He’s so distracted by you, his face warming when he notices that your top matches the necklace he made for you, he doesn’t even notice Kiri joining him and Lo’ak.
“I guess Tuk already went with Sa’nok and Sempul,” Kiri says, breaking Neteyam out of his trance.
“Yeah, she dragged them to get food immediately,” Lo’ak answers, not noticing Neteyam’s odd behavior.
“Ugh, I should’ve just stayed with y/n then,” Kiri sighs, hoping to get a reaction from Neteyam.
“I’m going to find her,” Neteyam says, taking his leave rather quickly.
“You’re so going to be my bitch for a month,” Kiri says to Lo’ak as soon as Neteyam is out of earshot.
“No way,” Lo’ak says, completely oblivious to the change between you and Neteyam.
It doesn’t take long for Neteyam to find you since he never lost sight of you in the first place. He made his way through the groups of people quickly to follow you as you headed to where the food was. Finally he caught up to you when you were stopped by Tuk.
“Y/n, the food is so good you have to try some!” Tuk greets you enthusiastically.
“Really? Which ones were your favorites?” You ask her, not realizing Neteyam had come up to you until you felt his hand on your lower back.
“The yerik was pretty good, but the talioang was much better,” Tuk answers thoughtfully.
“Oh yeah? I caught the talioang,” Neteyam tells Tuk, proud that his contribution was her favorite.
“Wow!” You and Tuk say at the same time.
“I’ll definitely have to try some then,” you say, smiling between him and Tuk.
“Oh, I see Kiri! I’ll see you later!” Tuk says to the two of you before running off to her sister.
“Do you want to eat?” Neteyam asks as Tuk runs off.
“Yes, I’m excited to try the talioang,” you say, your tail flicking side to side as Neteyam leads the two of you towards the food, his hand still on your lower back.
“I only caught it, I didn’t cook it,” Neteyam says, his face warming in embarrassment.
“Whoever cooked it wouldn’t have been able to cook it if you hadn’t caught it,” you say, both of you grabbing a food wrap that contains talioang.
The two of you find somewhere to sit and eat, the other Sully children joining soon after. Kiri and Lo’ak have their own food wraps, neither of them choosing talioang despite Tuk’s recommendation. Kiri lets you try some of the teylu she chose, and Lo’ak reluctantly lets Neteyam try his yerik.
The five of you are loud, Neteyam and Lo’ak sharing how their hunts went, Kiri complains about Spider not being able to join in the festivities, and Tuk tells all of you about her lessons. It isn’t until the musicians begin to play that people quiet down, or rather the music is loud enough to drown out the noise. When you look over to Neteyam, he’s already looking at you, and the two of you quickly get up to join the others who’ve already started dancing.
Even though you’re surrounded by others, it feels as if it’s just you and Neteyam. You don’t even register the people that you bump into, only focused on Neteyam’s touch. The air is getting hot and the two of you burn together.
Kiri and Lo’ak are still sitting, watching the two of you since Tuk ran off to find their parents. Kiri has a knowing smile on her face, the attraction between you and Neteyam becoming more and more obvious. Lo’ak is in disbelief, beginning to realize that the two of you might not have been acting this whole time.
“There’s no way, they have to still be faking it!” Lo’ak says loudly to Kiri so that she can hear him over the music, unaware of Tuk coming up behind them.
“Faking it?” Tuk repeats Lo’ak’s words, connecting the dots when she sees you and Neteyam in their eye line.
“Shit! Tuk, you weren’t supposed to hear that!” Lo’ak says, panicked.
“Dumbass!” Kiri says, slapping Lo’ak upside the head lightly. “Tuk, wait!” She says when Tuk begins to run off.
Kiri and Lo’ak scramble to follow Tuk, falling behind when she manages to squeeze between people easily. They finally find her crying in their mother’s arms, barely able to make out something about everything being fake between her sobs. Jake clocks Kiri and Lo’ak’s guilty expressions, bringing them over before they can take off.
“Why is your sister crying?” Jake asks, Tuk still in Neytiri’s lap.
“Why do you think she’s crying?” Kiri asks, not sure what her parents already know.
“They’re faking it!” Tuk manages to say between her cries.
“Who is faking what?” Neytiri asks Tuk, still trying to calm her down.
“Y/n and Neteyam,” Tuk says, her voice muffled by her mother’s shoulder.
“No, they’re not!” Kiri says, trying to cover for the two of you.
“Yes, they are!” Lo’ak contradicts, refusing to lose this bet.
“Lo’ak!” Kiri hisses, her brother’s idiocy ruining everything.
“Stop! Explain,” Jake interrupts them, tired of their fighting.
For a moment both Kiri and Lo’ak are silent, and Tuk’s finally calmed down from crying, only sniffling now and then. Kiri is the first to start talking, explaining why the two of you started courting, leaving out the bet between her, Lo’ak, and Spider. She tries telling her parents that the two of you aren’t faking it anymore, that the two of you genuinely have feelings for each other now, but they won’t listen.
You and Neteyam hadn’t realized people were talking about the two of you, your attention centered on each other. It isn’t until the crowd parts to let Jake through to you and Neteyam that either of you realize something is going on. Jake leads Neteyam away from the festival, passing Kiri and Lo’ak at the edge of the crowd, and you quickly make your way towards them.
“What’s going on?” You ask, concerned by the sudden interruption.
“They know,” Kiri says, leading you away from the crowd in a different direction.
“They know?” You ask, still confused.
“They know you and Neteyam were faking,” she answers, and you immediately deflate, asi if all of your breath was stolen.
“Oh,” is all you say, following her numbly into the forest.
You’re not sure when or how you got separated from Kiri, but you continue walking through the forest nonetheless. You don’t want to return to the festival and subject yourself to stares and whispers, and if you go home your parents will scold you, so you keep walking. Eventually you reach one of the streams that runs through the forest, and walk alongside it until you see a familiar figure sprawled out on the grass up ahead of you.
Neteyam wasn’t expecting the conversation with his father to be about you. He did expect his father to be upset and disappointed when he found out, but he didn’t expect himself to be so defensive of you. Instead of listening to his father’s lecture, Neteyam left for the forest, laying down when he reached the grassy bank of a small stream.
Away from his father and the clan, Neteyam tries to let his frustrations go. Just because he sees you now, and you make him feel seen, doesn’t mean you feel the same way he does. Staring up at the sky, trying not to think about what today means for you and Neteyam, he zones out. Too focused, or unfocused, Neteyam doesn’t realize he’s no longer alone until your upside down face blocks his view of the sky.
“What are you doing out here?” You ask, laying down in the opposite direction next to him, your eye line meeting Neteyam’s jawline.
“Just wanted to get away,” Neteyam answers, turning to face you.
“Everyone knows,” you say, staring into his eyes, trying to read his emotions.
“Everyone knows,” he repeats your words, staring at you blankly.
Neither of you say anything after that, but you can hear his tail thudding against the ground above you. You move your hand to his face, softly caressing his skin. Neteyam closes his eyes, indulging in your touch. His tail moves faster, the thuds getting louder. Quickly you sit up, about to put his head in your lap, but he sits up too.
“Sorry,” he says, looking down instead of looking at you.
“Don’t apologize, it’s okay,” you say, moving closer and resting your hands on his shoulders, dropping your head to meet his gaze.
Neteyam doesn’t respond, instead pulling you into a hug. With his face buried in your neck, you can’t see the tears forming in his eyes. You try holding him up, but end up falling on your back when he puts all of his weight on you. The rhythm of your heartbeat soothes Neteyam, enough for him to finally confess his feelings.
“I think I’m falling in love with you,” Neteyam says, not moving from where he lays on top of you.
“I think I’m falling in love with you too,” you say, voice soft as you begin to fall asleep, your breathing syncing with Neteyam’s.

okay idk if ur willing to do this but dating college!vanessa hcs??
This one has been sitting in my ask box for a hot minute because it keeps getting lost among other asks, but here we go!
Dating Van in college
✰ So, this is gonna be under the same umbrella/Au as my what would the Yellowjackets study in college (no crash) headcanons because crash!Van definitely didn't end up going to school after being rescued. So based on that, Van is studying film!
✰ I think had she gone to school she would have really enjoyed it. She'd like to come into her own and grow outside of her hometown and family
✰ She's not really a drinker, so I don't see her going to a lot of bars, so I imagine you'd meet her in a class or the library. When you've caught her eye, she'd start out by just kinda watching you but not in a weird way. She just starts seeing you everywhere she goes, and eventually, you mutually start waving and smiling at one another in passing
✰ Someday she'd finally get the guts to introduce herself and start a real conversation. I could see her using the excuse of sharing notes in a shared class you have as a way to get your email so she can talk to you more
✰ She tries really hard not to seem too eager or interested even though she really likes you. She doesn't want to scare you off after all. but after talking for a little while she realizes she's really into you and wants to ask you out, which is difficult given that she doesn't know if you like girls or not
✰ She'd either find out because you casually let it slip or she'd go with you to a party for once and see you interacting with another girl. She'd hate watching that from across the room, but on the bright side at least she knows she's got a shot now, right?
✰ eventually, she'd work up the nerve to actually ask you out and thankfully it would go well! After a couple dates, you'd make it official bc I just know this girl is a lesbian stereotype that wants you all to herself as soon as possible and she wants that girlfriend title so bad
✰ For a college girlfriend, she's not bad at all, but she's not perfect because no one can be perfect. I can see her struggling with communication at times because this is probably her first serious relationship after Taissa, so there's a learning curve for sure. But she does her best and she does work on herself, which is always a positive
✰ I think she'd really like going on dates outside when the weather is nice and having study dates at the local coffee shop that's connected to her favorite record and book shop on weekdays (definitely not referencing a coffee place in my college town). She's always down for a movie marathon in her apartment, snuggled up under blankets with a heaping of snacks
✰ She's also always giving you random things she finds, like rocks and leaves or little things she finds when she's out shopping. Some of them can be very stupid, but as long as it'll make you laugh it's worth it

Charthur headcanons bc idk I'm evil
Arthur made the first move. Charles always had to be careful being both gay and black in the 1800s. One wrong move could've been disaster.
Arthur and Charles both quietly crushed on each other for a while leading up to the Blackwater Massacre, but right before shit hit the wall, Arthur was going to confess his feelings.
Of course Arthur is so emotionally constipated he only sort of gets his point across before they have to pack up and leave.
But Charles sort of catches on, leading him to offer Taima for Arthur to ride in Ambarino as a way to sort of tell him he at least feels the same somewhat
It's nowhere near them actually saying "I have feelings for you" but it's a start. At least now after The Aftermath of Genesis they know the other one actually likes them if only platonically.
Their version of flirting is the little displays of affection they show. And by little I mean little. It's how Arthur tells Charles he needs to rest because of his hand. It's when Charles helps with the wagon in Eastward Bound.
I personally think at Sean's return party, Arthur gets hammered and finds Charles on guard duty. Only he doesn't exactly recognize it's him. Thinks he's just a very handsome stranger. I may have wrote a little fic about it. He technically confesses his feelings to Charles, he just doesn't realize it's him until Charles makes him realize.
And yet AND YET it's not enough to really make them start a romantic relationship because again! They're not the best at communicating their feelings. Arthur was drunk, and Charles doesn't want to push things until Arthur says the same things while sober.
They take things painfully slow at first. Yeah they have the hunting trip together and they'd both be lying if they said they didn't find it hot when the other killed their respective poacher.
When they went to stake out Dewberry Creek, Arthur had finally built up enough courage to tell Charles. For reals this time. That he loves him and wants to be with him. But of course we know how that ended.
Things are tense between them for a while. Arthur only comes along on Uncle's job when Charles gets involved because he wants to talk to him about how they left things. He never gets the chance though, unfortunately.
It's not until they're sent to find Trelawny when they finally get a chance to talk. Dutch sent them together on purpose because he (and everyone else) noticed how close they'd been. It's when Charles saves Arthur's life when the air is cleared between the two of them. They're still not officially an item yet, but at least they're in each other's good graces again.
Then Blessed Are The Peacemakers happens. When Arthur doesn't come back from the meetup, Charles starts to worry. The others tell him he'll be okay, but it doesn't really help to calm his nerves. He just throws himself into his work to try to get his mind off things.
Of course when Arthur finally returns all battered and broken, Charles can hardly stand the sight of him. Ms. Grimshaw and Strauss won't let anyone but Dutch or Hosea near him for a few days while they monitor him. The first chance he gets, Charles visits him with a bowl of stew. It's about as good a moment as any for a deeply emotional heart-felt conversation about their feelings right?
I like to think there was a bit more time between Arthur's recovery and "A Short Walk in a Pretty Town" so that he and Charles can have more cute moments together before. The horrors.
And then the rest of the timeline plays out mostly the same just with the added context that Charthur Real. So here's a bunch of little things about their relationship I think about a lot.
Arthur isn't a big fan of PDA, but Charles will sometimes give him a little peck on the cheek in front of the girls to make him a little flustered.
In private though, Arthur is so clingy. He and Charles may as well be tied together at the hip. He gives Charles the biggest warmest bear hugs, and he's almost always the big spoon when they cuddle. When Arthur is holding Charles, there is no escape.
Which is great for whenever Charles is understimulated and needs the weighted pressure. Sometimes he'll just ask Arthur to lay on him when it's really bad.
When Arthur grows out his hair he gets Charles to braid it sometimes. Y'know when he needs it out of his face.
Arthur loves giving gifts to Charles. Whenever he goes into town he always picks something up from the general store for him. Or if he goes out on a ride he brings back some burdock root or wild carrots for Taima or some yarrow or oleander for Charles himself.
Charles likes making things for Arthur instead of buying things. He'll make him some arrows or some health tonic. Sometimes he'll whittle something for Arthur too.
Arthur LOVES to draw Charles. He gets a whole separate journal just for Charles art.
When they get drunk together the entire camp is graced with their wonderful harmony (they are both so off key it hurts)
Sometimes they'll just go on rides together to nowhere in particular. Just riding for the sake of riding and enjoying each others company. They'll often just ride in silence, only speaking when giving directions or something.
Though sometimes they stay out too long "on accident" and have no choice but to camp out for the night. Oh no whatever shall they do.
My idea for their best ending is after American Venom, they get a ranch somewhere in Canada. Maybe a cattle ranch in Alberta or something. They both got the family bug from watching John and Jack. Arthur is understandably hesitant at first seeing as how his last venture into fatherhood ended, but after a lot of talk they decide that when they're ready, a family might be nice. I headcanon Charles as trans, so their kids would be biologically theirs if they decide to have them.
(Listen, listen, I know getting married with kids is not necessary for a happy ending. However I really love thinking about Arthur and Charles being dads and I think they'd be great at it! Plus Charles literally said he wants to start a family and I think he should be able to get what he wants!!!)

okay so i read the preview for a second time and screenshotted a bunch of moments i have thoughts about, both good and bad. so i’m gonna go through them!
first of all on a reread i did like it more, i do think it is very salvageable so i’m not too upset with it. i’m looking forward to seeing what the official preview will be like on the 10th compared to this
okay here we go
Tumblr media
absolute golden moment. this is the best moment of the whole preview. it’s simple and perfectly shows their personalities and their dynamic and it’s funny and yeah. perfection. love it love it love it
Tumblr media
ummmmm i’m very confused about this bc it implies that nico heard the prophecy and chose not to tell dionysus the first time he talked to him? but he was already talking to dionysus before he ever heard the prophecy for the first time. so that’s a pretty major flaw imo. correct me if i am wrong
Tumblr media
this is what bothers me the most more than anything else. nico DID inherit hades’s dream magic. that’s a whole point in blood of olympus. reyna comments on it being like has he always been able to do this?? and he talks about navigating dreams in his own perspective so wtf. plus i could be remembering wrong but doesn’t nico admit to having visited percy in his dreams in the last olympian once? it’s a really easy fix though all it needs to be is that: nico’s control over his dreams had diminished after jason’s death when all the ptsd started hitting full force. that would make sense. but this is the biggest inconsistency from the previous books and i hope it is fixed.
Tumblr media
i’m not a fan of chiron’s characterization as a whole in this but i do love this line. it really felt like the vibe of the previous books
Tumblr media
listen i love dionysus caring about nico but he would never say that last sentence out loud. no matter how much he cares about him. i feel like that was a violation of show don’t tell, it should have been implied instead of just stated out loud. that being said i do love what immediately follows this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the fact that he does end up sharing at the end is fantastic. THAT was a good moment of showing that dionysus cares about him without explicitly stating it out loud. i think that’s a great moment
Tumblr media
i personally LOVE nico’s weak attempt to come up with an alternative to a life for a life. a broom. really? that was a good moment, it really shows that he knows it’s going to be bad and it shows the dread he is feeling about it and is desperately trying to convince himself that it won’t be so bad. i think that’s such a simple and powerful way to show the severity of whatever is going to happen
Tumblr media
i like this. a lot. the line “i DO know you, nico” perfection. simple and effective way of showing their relationship and showing how will really does pay attention and love him
anyway those are all the thoughts i have right now that aren’t the obvious ones, i definitely have many more so i will probably make more posts as i think of them! let me know what you think, i would love to hear more people’s opinions too!!

Wille's Month - Voicemail (Free Day)
day 31 @youngroyals-events thank you for everything (more coming in a separate post bc i have a lot of thanks to give)
A collection of voicemails left by Wille.
read below or on ao3 (G, 800)
Simon’s phone. March 29th, 2027, 4:29pm.
“Hi baby! I’m on my way home, I’m just about to stop at the store. Did you say we needed more milk? I’ll grab some anyway, I think I have a coupon. Oh my gosh, you’ll never believe what I saw on my lunch break today. I took a walk around the park and there was this little mama duck, and she had a little trail of babies following after her. I nearly cried. I was late getting back to the shop because I stayed to watch them swim around in the pond. And I- Oh, I just remembered I sent you a video of that. Well, I’m telling you again because it bears repeating. One of these days when we move out of the city, we should get a bunch of animals or something. I think I’d make a good farmer. Or would that make us ranchers? Anyway, I’ll see you in a few. I love you!”
Felice’s phone. November 11th, 2029, 7:13am.
“Felice, we have an issue. I’ve been following this recipe you sent so closely but I’ve managed to screw it up. Why do my egg whites look like this? … I just remembered you can’t see them. I’ll text you a picture. They’re all grainy and weird, though. Are you busy right now? This would be so much easier if we could do this on FaceTime or something. I’d owe you big time. I guess call me when you wake up, if you can? Love you. Thanks in advance.”
Linda’s phone. October 20th, 2027, 5:32pm.
“Hi Linda! Simon and I are running a bit late. Someone had to spend an extra thirty minutes fixing his— Hey! I’m trying to explain to your mom why it’s not my fault we’re late! Sorry, Linda. We’ll be there soon, I promise. Simon is being very safe, though, and definitely not taking his hands off the wheel to try to steal my phone. I made some new cookies with a recipe Felice gave me, too. I’m excited for you to try them! You have to actually give me a sincere review this time. I appreciated all your kindness last time, but I want you to be brutally honest about these ones. Okay, we’re about five minutes out. See you soon!”
August’s phone. February 1st, 2034, 9:48pm.
“Hi, August. It’s Wille. I saw a short clip of the ceremony today. Sorry I couldn’t make it. Mamma seems confident in you, and I actually think you’ll do a good job. I’m not calling you ‘Your Royal Highness’, though… I wish you the best. Bye.”
Sara's phone. July 15th, 2025, 3:06pm.
“Okay, I grabbed what you said. I think— Oh, sorry. Hi. It’s Wille. You know that. Listen, I am worried he’s getting suspicious. I’m bad at keeping secrets from him, you know this. I still think no one should’ve told me and this party could’ve been a surprise for both of us. Sorry, rambling. I think I managed to find everything on the list. They only had two packs of purple balloons left, so hopefully 50 is enough. Oh! The cake looks awesome, too. Felice did a great job. He’s going to love it. Okay, I gotta go, he’s coming. See you— Hi Simon! … No, just a scam call. How—”
Kristina’s phone. September 5th, 2032, 6:11pm.
“Hi Mamma. I’m sorry I missed your call earlier. Things have been really busy over here. The movers showed up on time, thankfully, and everything went smoothly. We managed to get a lot unpacked already. Simon and I just had our first official dinner at our new kitchen table! Let me know when you and Pappa want to come visit. I’d say give us a few weeks to at least get the majority of the boxes cleared out. You’re going to love the view of the lake. It’s so beautiful, Mamma… I’m really happy here. Okay. Call me when you can… I love you. Say hi to Pappa.”
Erik’s phone. June 1st, 2026, 1:52am.
“Hi Erik. It’s your brother. Wille. Um… I graduated today. I didn’t end up finishing at Hillerska. It got shut down. You may actually know a little bit about why. I don’t want to talk about that… The past few years have been really tough, Erik. There are a lot more good days than bad ones now, but it still hurts every day. I miss you a lot. I hope you’ve forgiven me for stepping down from the throne. I think you have. You knew I never wanted it. I’m starting at uni in the fall, and Simon and I are going to live together. I’m really excited, actually. Normal life, and all that. Maybe I’ll even get a job. Imagine that. Former Crown-Prince working as a barista. Um, okay. I should probably get back to sleep. I’ll call again soon. I love you, big brother… Bye.”
