2.7k words, no warnings.
Y/n being captain of the ship known as Lo'ak and Tsireya.
lowdown-
When Y/N, and the sullys first reach the reef, a boy catches her eye, and she does her best to catch his attention. She doesn't believe he likes her back, and she thinks it's ridiculous that she's so whipped for this boy. He seems to have no interest in her.
since this is part one theres no angst yet
pt 2 here pt 3 pt 4
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N. that is what those close to you know you as. The ones that you were not close to knew you as the seventh toruk makto. The youngest ever to get chosen by the leonopteryx, the child like kiri, so in tune with nature, but with the dangerous side, as well as the soft side. You only knew one thing in life. The forest was part of you and you were part of it.
You were disappointed that you had to leave the forest. You were in love with it, the forest was part of you and you were part of it. you were so so upset about leaving it, but where your family goes, so does you. Sullys stick together. You and kiri were both quite similar in the idea that you were quite in tune with Eywa. However, you both were slightly different. She choose to be quiet and she was more calm, and would walk away from anyone picking a fight.
You were the opposite, always jumping in head first and thinking about your consequences after. You were more likely to get into a fight than Kiri since she was a lot more calm and collected. At a young age you seemed to be in more touch with the animal life of Pandora while Kiri was enamoured by everything. But you didn't relly mind and quite often disappeared into the foliage of the forests with her. Your father did not seem to worry about you that often but you definitely knew he loved you, from the times when he'd asked you What'd you'd seen and done in a day after you dragged Kiri away from the trees back to your clan.
One particular day when you were about 6 or 7, you had Kiri has gotten separated from Neteyam, spider and lo'ak on one of your trips, and not too soon after you had lost Kiri too. You didn't worry, because you knew you'd find your way back to the rest no matter what in the end. You were very very curious then, and quite often gave your parents heart attacks. At the time, there were rumours of a thanator being pregnant, as it did not happen that often, and when pregnant, they would do their best to remain hidden. The thanator, had been roaming around the outskirts of the forest, near the clan.
The people were scared of the thanator, even if your mother was one of the only people to ever have 'trained' one, the people were obviously still wary. It seems even though your siblings were aware of this, they still deemed it a good idea to go and travel into the forest themselves. Well, anyway you guys got separated, and you didn't think too much of it. You were sitting on the forest floor, petting and stroking a baby viper-wolf, who were playing with some other cubs.
Suddenly, they stopped yapping at each other and froze, giving a small, quick hiss before getting up and running away. You looked in the direction that they were running away from and saw her. The thanator was so beautiful. Some part of your body was telling you to run, but the stronger, bigger part of you was telling you she wouldn't hurt you and you had nothing to worry about. So, you stood up, cautiously walked up to her and gave your hand for her to smell you like a dog would, and she licks your palm. You just chill with her for awhile before asking her to help guide you back, but she actually does, which leads you to believe she can understand you.
And from that day onwards you would constantly sneak off into the woods to find the pregnant thanator which you named ta'éki. This carried on for several years till you were roughly about 12, at this point your entire family knew but they knew she wouldn't hurt you. ( i believe with my heart that when Thanators are pregnant they will remain pregnant for years until they believe someone other than them can take care of their baby, and that they also take a very long time to grow up, roughly 25 years to get up to the size of the one neytiri rode) You had bonded really well with ta'éki.
one day, you ran to meet her at the pool and noticed how her pregnancy stomach was gone, and she was with a tiny baby Thanator. at this point you understood her so well and you basically were able to speak to animals in the first place, and she asked you to bond with the baby. When you connected tsaheylu you instantly knew this would be a moment you would remember forever. You decided that moment her name would be ta'heyla. You did basically everything together from then on.
Once it was time for you to bond with a mountain banshee for you to become accepted as an adult, you had gone up with kiri and neteyam. For some reason, you didn't feel like you would meet your banshee there, So you told your father that and he allowed you to explore while your sister and brother claimed their banshees. In the distance, you could hear the whoops of excitement from neteyam ( you assume) successfully bonding with his banshee.
You don't mind it too much, and were climbing up some vines on the hallelujah mountains to explore some more by yourself. you hear some soft clicking noises, and something compels you to follow it and you come across a giant leonopteryx.
You instantly stumble over your own feet, and fall onto your butt. but, due to the fact she did not pounce, you knew it might have been okay to approach her. so, you did. without really considering if anything could go wrong. But you just casually asked her to be your friend, and voila! you were the 7th Toruk Makto. Avarin was a strangely coloured leonopteryx, but there was no doubt that she wasn't one. Her colours were various shades of blue and black.
Obviously people were slightly confused how a great leonopteryx ( you named her Avarin, because it just seemed appropriate) had chosen a 12 year old girl, a child. But you just didn't really care and just kind of did your own thing.
You ended up being known very well throughout your clan for your affiliation with especially dangerous animals, and you suppose that spread throughout the rest of pandora as well. Your brothers were jealous, especially lo'ak as he wanted one too. Avarin was quite wary among anyone other than you and your family, so she preferred to stay quite away from your camp, but always seemed to know when you needed her.Several years later, the sky people came back.
They hunted and hunted in the forest, searching for your father and your family, wishing to extract their revenge, which was why your father was adamant that you were not to visit the forest again, after neteyam, lo'ak, kiri and Tuk were intercepted while you were off flying with Avarin, having left the mic at home since it distracted you and made you uncomfortable.
You kind of blamed yourself for that, since you could have helped, but they managed to be okay, even though spider was taken away. since then, you had to obey, these people were really dangerous. But you could not leave your family behind, those ones in the forest, the ones you grew up with.
So, the day before you left, you ran into the forest while your parents were busy arguing to find ta'éki and ta'heyla. But ta'éki was nowhere in sight in your usual meeting spot, but Ta'heyla, the baby thanator was. And then you knew that the sky people were the reason for the disappearance of ta'éki. So, you did the only thing you could think of, you told ta'heyla everything would be fine and that you would take care of her. So, as you packed your things, you had ta'heyla curled by your foot.
You had worked for several hours trying to convince your father to allow you to bring her, and you genuinely hoped that the metkayina clan would not worry too much about her, as you knew she would not hurt anyone as long as you were present. At this age, she was the size of a medium grown tiger from earth, but you knew you would be able to bring her with you as you knew Avarin, your leonopteryx would be able to carry her.
The flight was getting exhausting for you. Avarin was a smooth flyer but several hours of sitting on a saddle no matter how smooth the flight is would get tiring real quick. Ta'heyla was on the back with you having been strapped down with some ropes you had to fashion as quickly as you could.
Soon, the waters became clearer, and you were able to see the beautiful clean water, with all these different beautiful fish and various animals swimming about. You really really wanted to take a break and touch the clear water, since you've never swam in the ocean before, the urge was really really strong, and you knew you would get along with all the creatures really well.
you shot a look to kiri, conveying what you thought of the sights with just a look. She was flying beside you, but you noticed her banshee looked slightly uncomfortable with the Avarin so close, even though hers knew it was okay.
Finally, You had reached the Metkayina clan. houses on top of the water, connected to mangroves, so many of them, with children splashing in the water and yells of happiness and joy. As the shadow of Avarin passed over them, everything quieted down, there were some screams, but the company of mountain banshees next to your leonopteryx made them not panic, because that was something that did not happen often.
You landed at the centre, and your family around you. You stepped off and helped your baby Ta'heyla down, opting to stand next to kiri, since she and you were the closest in the family.
Avarin, uncomfortable with the crowd around you pointing their spears, took off, giving a slight hiss. The people stumbled back, most likely unused to a leonopteryx of that size.
"coward!" you yelled after her, with her only giving you a light squawk. Kiri laughed at you and with that you turned around, to face the Metkayina clan, those who were in control of your future now. For some reason, your heart starts thumping, with your tail flicking back and forth, and you look around, wondering what is causing that. You spot two teenage boys making their way towards you.
From behind, they scrutinise yours and kiri's tails, laughing at it. " look at that! is that supposed to be a tail?" One of them, the taller one grabs your tail, you flush, and pull it out of his grasp, flicking your tail against his back and he lets out a squeak. Kiri covers her mouth with her hand to hide her laugh.
In the end, 'cause after ronal picks on kiri, you stepped in front of her and stopped paying attention, preferring to keep an eye out for everyone else. So, when the boy who pulled you tail is introduced as the son of Tonowari and Ronal, you flick him an interested look, finally taking in his looks. you have to admit, he's quite attractive and maybe he'll be nicer from now on. Tonowari raises the question of your thanator, and you're quick to reply. "she won't harm anyone, she's never harmed anyone in her entire life. It will be okay. I will be responsible" Your sister is quick to back you up, following your brothers and tuk. "very well, i will hold you to that." Tonowari says. You bow, glad that you are able to keep her with you.
Fast forward to your first lesson. Breathing. Tsireya saw to it that Ao'nung helped you, since he had been your tormentor. It was very very quick, but you seemed very intrigued by him. He was quick, strong, intelligent. everything you wanted in a mate. But he viewed you as untrue na'vi, and you wanted to change that. So, you did your best to prove yourself to him. For some reason, you knew that you were going to end up together, even if he was quick to ridicule you and your siblings. It seems that everyone else was quick to catch on, too.
with his hand on your abdomen, just resting under the line of your top, his hand seemed to sear into you, so warm and inviting, a contrast to his cold behaviour. The water was cold, which caused you to shiver. breathe in from your stomach, and hold it as long as possible, The way of water has no beginning and no end. Our hearts beat in the womb of the world. The sea is your home, before your birth and after your death." You turn to him, eyebrows quirked, you watch as they dive in. You follow, and so does lo'ak neteyam, kiri and tuk.
You open your eyes underwater, having a clear membrane cover your eyes, much like the metkayina, which allowed you to see clearly underwater. and oh eywa. What a sight. The clear water was so mesmerising. The fishes swimming by without being afraid, the beautiful corals, and more, Ao'nung; he looked so beautiful underwater, so in tune with the environment and the current underwater moving his hair back and forth. You didn't want to stare too long, so you changed your sight and looked towards Tsireya. She makes some hand movements, and you guess that she's asking for you to swim with them.
Your siblings, lungs bursting head back up for air, and you watch Ao'nung turn to Tsireya and ask what's wrong with them. You feel very protective, and swim back up to check on them. Once you are back above water, you look through the water and see Rotxo, who has been quiet the entire time, make hand movements to Ao'nung saying "those guys are bad divers." Tsireya interjects with "stop. they're learning" and they too, swim back up.
"are you alright?" Tsireya asks.
Tuk whines; " you're too fast, wait for us"
Ao'nung comes to the surface and jeers. "You are not good divers. Maybe good at swinging through trees, but…"
but thankfully, Tsireya hits him on the head, you're thankful because you really don't like it when he talks bad about you, and you think you really should not be interested in him.
Neteyam speaks up for the first time, "Come on bro. We don't speak this finger talk, you guys. We don't know what you're saying."
Tsireya says, " I will teach you." and you send Neteyam a smirk, laughing at Lo'ak's expression, like she said he wouldn't teach her.
Tsireya turns to Ao'nung " you will help Y/N, she is faster than them and understands quicker, once you are done, you may help me with tuk." You hear Ao'nung let out a groan, and you can't help but feel a little bit squashed.
So, you head back to the Marui, and sit on the side, he turns to you and says. "look, you are seem to understand better than your brothers that are slow, but you do not know all the hand signs, so-" He is interrupted by Ta'heyla running up to you and jumping on you. She's quite big, but you don't seem to mind it too much.
"what is that-" Ao'nung asks, cautiously putting his hand out, for what? you're not sure.
"seems like we can both teach each other some things, so let's be civil, yeah?" You turn to him, noticing his caution, you give him a shrug, and he tries to ignore it, but he definitely saw it.
"shut it forest girl" he smiles, and goes back to the lesson, and oh eywa, does your heart thump at that smile. Like Tsireya, he has dimples and oh eywa, what a pretty thing.
You ask him to discard the lesson, wishing to know more about his culture, and you can't help but watch enamoured as he describes the traditions of the Metkayina clan, not at the lesson, but at him, the way he talks and moves his hands around, it seems you're already whipped.

Part 1: Betrayal Is The Only Truth That Sticks
Masterlist
Tumblr media
[Name] tried to rid all thoughts from her head as she took a sharp turn around a coral covered rock. If she wanted to win this race, she would have to stay focused. She signalled her Ilu to take another sharp turn to avoid one of the other racers. Manoeuvring out of the way, she watched as the Metkayina girl beside her caught up. Making a quick move, her Ilu crossed directly in front of the other girl, cutting her off. The girl’s Ilu was spooked, causing the girl to slow down leaving [Name] to get ahead.
The races had started pretty soon after [Name] was accepted in to the group, and since then have only become more competitive. The first few races were just for fun, another thing to do in spare time. But as the months went on, the races had become more of a proof of skill. A way to prove that you were better than others and to show who was best rider in the reef.
[Name] knew the path like the back of her hand and every precise turn reflected that. Her movements were quick but smooth, helping her move through the path with speed. [Name] would pass other riders and rocks swiftly, not fearing when she was only inches away from obstacles.
As she looked over to her left, she found Ao’nung’s quick movements matching her own. Now just barely a head, his Ilu blocked her vision as the path narrowed. She had to move by memory, her sharp turns were reliant on the movement of his body and her memory alone. As she struggled to match his movements, her mind flickered to the feeling of the water.
Even when rushing in her face, [Name] found herself at home within the sea. The warm waters of the Metkayina have brought her great happiness over the past few months. Only a few months less than a year ago, she was still tormented by the separation she felt from her family. It had only been when the kids of the Metkayina took her in that she finally learned what family felt like.
Over the last few months, she had finally felt free from the prison in her mind. A prison she was backed into when she was just a young child begging for love she would not receive. She had become best friends with many of the Metkayina kids, choosing to spend time with them instead of her family. And when that caused tension in the Sully family, her friends were there to save her, welcoming her into their homes.
Although [Name] never need to stay in other’s houses, for the day that [Name] finally turned her back on the family that had neglected her, was the same day that Ao’nung’s parents, Ronal and Tonowari, let her in their family.
[Name] was never alone from that point, never left to tame the demons in her mind on her own. No, from that point on, the entirety of the clan had given their attention and love to [Name]. Even just from the Metkayina kids telling their parents, majority of the clan had known of the crimes of the Sully family. Although they tried not to show their feelings towards the Sully family, the stares always seemed to slip out when a Sully member was in [Name]’s general vicinity.
The protective nature of the Metkayina clan over [Name] made her heart warm, like a warm dish on a cold night. Although [Name] appreciated the Metkayina clan as a collective, she enjoyed individuals of the Metkayina clan even more.
[Name]’s friends had loved her from the start, even before they met when she was just beginning to learn their ways. [Name]’s genuine interest and quick skill was intriguing to them. But as the time went on, it was really her personality and kindness that kept them coming back for more.
Ao’nung made a sharp turn into an open area, catching [Name] off guard. It only took a short beat before [Name] realized that this open area was the last stretch of the race. In a quick jerk, [Name] moved her Ilu beside Ao’nung’s, her mind focusing on the finish line. The line was really just two rocks that the Ilu’s would swim between, but it meant so much more as their friends not in the race floated around the rocks, waiting to see who was the winner.
The race was close, Ao’nung and [Name] swimming side-by-side. [Name]’s Ilu creeping in front of Ao’nung’s was enough for determination to flood Ao’nung’s face. He broke into a grin and as they approached the finish line, Ao’nung’s Ilu darted forward, taking the place of [Name]’s between the rocks. Only when Ao’nung’s Ilu started to slow in front of her, did [Name] realize that they had passed the finish line.
Fists pumped in the water and the muffled sound of cheers bubbled from around them. The feeling of adrenaline started to wane as [Name] looked around her. Ao’nung was looking at her with a very familiar look to [Name], a grin plastered on his face.
Ao’nung had won.
As the group made it to the surface, the cheering only got louder, and the shouting of Ao’nung’s name became clear. Even as they were applauding his name, Ao’nung’s eyes stayed firmly placed on [Name], his smirk not wavering as [Name] stare right back at him. Other’s started to pop their heads out of the water as other racers completed the race. A few of the Na’vi not racing, began clapping the racer’s backs, telling them how well they did. A few close to Ao’nung did that to him as well, but his eyes stayed locked on [Name]’s.
[Name] rolled her eyes before smirking. Ao’nung, as stubborn as always, never gave up, did he? The water rippled around them, evidence that there were still people around them and not just the two of them in their own world. As Ao’nung’s amused expression remained, [Name] let out a light hearted huff, shaking her head.
“Good game. You beat me,” [Name] said, trying to keep some level of maturity as she felt her competitive nature creep up.
She never was able to be competitive as a kid, never able to compete really. If there was a competition for her parent’s affection and attention, she lost the moment her siblings were born. Out of the running, benched as she would watch her family grow from the sidelines. But ever since being accepted as a member of the Metkayina clan, she had been learning new things about herself that she was never able to explore before.
“You’re right. I did beat you. Again,” Ao’nung was practically beaming, his face smug from the prospect of beating one of the clan’s best racers.
“Ugh, just barley, if that girl hadn’t cut me off, I would have won,” [Name] stated as matter of fact, chin tilting up in defiance. No way was she going to let this go to Ao’nung’s head.
“And I have been the one winning the past few races, so I don’t know what you’re on about,” [Name] added.
“Sure, but I won the last race and I have won again,” Ao’nung smirked at her for what felt like the hundredth time.
[Name] punched Ao’nung’s arm half-heartedly as she rolled her eyes, “Yes, whatever. You have won this time, but know that I will win the next,” [Name] smirked, eyebrows furrowing into as serious look as she pointed at Ao’nung.
Ao’nung only put his arms in the air, a look of smug disbelief painted across his face, “You will try, but I think second place suits you just fine.”
The sun beating down on them was warm and the water, calm. The ripples that were previously cause by the people around, were calmer and there was less splashing. One quick look around told [Name] that most of the riders were retreating back to the village after a long day.
“I guess you will have The Spear of Yora’tu (winners) for the next week,” [Name] smirked, already knowing Ao’nung’s reaction as she has seen it before.
Ao’nung’s eyes light up, puffing out his chest slightly as he smiled at the reminder.
The Spear of Yora’tu (Spear of Winners) was something the racers came up with a few months into the races. Racing had never been an official thing and so there was no official prize. That was until Ao’nung fought off an Akula, a ferocious and sharp toothed predator that swan just outside of the reef, with the spear. Since then, many in the tribe, including [Name], were able to fight off a predator with it.
Spear was then named for it’s incredible luck and they deemed that the Spear could only be earned by winning an Ilu race. So, since then they have been competing for the spear, which in itself would be enough of a prize, even if it didn’t come with bragging rights.
Ao’nung was known for holding the Spear the longest, though [Name] was always giving him a run for his money. And once again Ao’nung had won it, meaning that he would not let her live it down for the next few days.
“Ah, yes. Proof that I am a winner and better than you,” Ao’nung teased.
[Name] couldn’t help but laugh at that. It hadn’t taken much to get [Name] to laugh at Ao’nung’s jokes lately, however stupid.
Warm wind blew softly by them, blowing their wet hair so gentle it seemed Eywa was caressing them herself. [Name] took a deep breath, eyes closing as she experienced the warm wind around her. Ao’nung was left to watch her, his smirk fading into a small smile as he watched the beautiful girl in front of him.
Ao’nung found it almost a shame that [Name] was never taught in the ways of the Tsahik. Even though she should have been taught simply because of her heritance, the way she experienced the world around her felt as if Eywa flowed right through her. As she breathed in the air, [Name] looked as if she was breathing in the life of the world and had never felt more at peace because of it.
The soft look on Ao’nung’s face was almost a perfect refection of his thoughts.
A thought crossed his mind and Ao’nung decided to voice it, “Do you wanna explore the reef some more tomorrow? Maybe end at the beach?”
[Name] looked at his soft expression with confusion, although she didn’t show it. It wasn’t often that Ao’nung showed his soft side, in fact, [Name] was quite sure she was one of few who had. Tsireya, his sister, had, having been comforted after she got her queue caught on some coral. It was a touching moment that [Name] felt she should not have seen but seeing Ao’nung wrapped his arms around his sister as tears fell from her face, made [Name] feel soft and warm inside. A feeling she could describe as comforting.
But besides his sister, [Name] had hardly seen that expression on Ao’nung, as usually choose to grin or glare. The first time she had ever seen that face was when she had won her first Ilu race. Ao’nung wouldn’t stop telling everyone about how the forest girl won against even the best, for weeks. She didn’t understand it, but she did welcome the feeling she got every time Ao’nung started boasting about her to the other members of the clan.
“That sounds fun! Who’s all coming?” [Name] smiled, ignoring the soft look on his face, or how he was staring in her eyes like she was the only one he has ever seen.
“Oh, it was just going to be us,” Ao’nung explained, his soft look dropped only to be replaced by another smirk.
After a moment of thought, [Name] smiled, “Well, I am in. How could I turn down quality time with you?” [Name] smirked, her teasing hanging in the air, waiting for someone to make a move.
“You just can’t get enough of me, who wouldn’t want to hang out with me?” Ao’nung laughed. [Name] rolled her eyes again, holding in her own laugh, as they made their way back to the village.
Only a few hours later, [Name] found herself in a circle with some of her friends, girls of the Metkayina clan. She carefully guided them through the process of weaving flower crowns, just like she taught Tuk all those years ago. The goal was for them to make them for their families as gifts, as many of the girls had fathers, brothers and mates who were out all day hunting and protecting the seawall and wished to convey their appreciation.
This wasn’t the first day [Name] had taught them, only a few weeks prior she had been trying to teach them when Ao’nung challenged a boy to a race again, and [Name] and many of the girls could not miss that.
Since that day though, the girls had been practicing their skills, impressing [Name], who was more than proud to hear of this. The girls in the circle now were refining their skills, using them to make personal crowns for the ones they loved. [Name] thought the way the personalized them were brilliant. She had never thought to weave shells and pretty beads into the crowns using beading techniques, and she was excited to experiment.
“All I am saying, is that if he really cared he would approach you about it,” One of the girls told the girl beside her as she added a blue flower to her crown.
Mumbles of agreement sounded from around the circle, all seemingly deciding that that was the end of that argument. It was silent for a moment, only the sounds being of hands hard at work weaving and waves crashing next to them.
Then one girl piped up, looking at [Name], “I think I know the answer, [Name], but has anything gotten better with your family?”
All of the girls seemed become somber at that thought. They had seen [Name] around and they knew that things had not gotten better, in fact, the might have become worse. The Sully family was leaving their marui less and less, and they knew that [Name] blamed herself, as much as she didn’t want to think about it.
“No, no it hasn’t,” [Name] sighed, she had thought about this a lot. Even after separating herself from them and creating a new life for herself that she loved, she still felt guilty and responsible for the family she grew up with.
The girls around her muttered words of comfort, and the girls beside her held her hands and shoulders.
“They don’t deserve you, you deserve better.”
“Yeah, you’re with us now.”
“And we love having you around!”
“Of course, look what you have taught us,” One girls said, holding up her crown. “We thought we were just going to teach you.”
The girls nodded eagerly at each of the statements as if they believed them whole heartedly. [Name] smiled, looking at all of the faces that loved her very much. After a moment of comforting from the girls, they began to weave their crowns again and one of the girls made a move to change the subject.
“How are you and Ao’nung?” She questioned, [Name] would have said innocently, but as the girl started to smirk, she thought otherwise.
“What about me and Ao’nung?” [Name] hesitantly, wondering if this was going the way she thought it was going.
“How has courting each other been?”
Giggles sounded around the circle, smirks finding their way on many of the girl’s faces.
“What do you mean? We are not courting each other,” [Name] questioned, her eyes wide in alarm, blood rushing to her cheeks, did they think that they were courting eachother?
Choruses of gasps of shock and mumbles of ‘what?’ erupted from around her. [Name] was met with the prospect that others thought there was something going on between her and Ao’nung. Why did others see this but not her? Honestly, [Name] though they were going to ask if [Name] had a crush on Ao’nung, and was surprised that it seemed they had skipped that step.
“You mean to tell us that all this dancing around you have done, is unintentional?” Another of the girls asked, visibly perplexed.
“I mean, I thought we were just good friends…” [Name] muttered to herself, but the girls heard.
The thought did cross [Name]’s mind, that maybe she didn’t really know the difference between friends and something more, Ao’nung being her first friend and all. What if the comfort [Name] found in Ao’nung was mutual?
“Why did you think we were courting each other?” [Name] just had to ask, had to be sure.
“Are you kidding? We see how you two act around each other, like you can’t get enough of each other,” A girl started.
“Like you two are the only ones in the ocean,” One of the girls finished.
“Really?” [Name] felt that familiar warm feeling in her stomach. “I would have thought there was a better, Metkayina girl for him.”
The girls erupted in a laugh again. A good feeling, hearty laugh from the stomach at the idea of Ao’nung having anyone else ‘better’ for him.
As one of the girls started to come down from her laughter, she put her hand on [Name]’s shoulder, “Look, I love all of the girls of the Metkayina clan, except for Tseiie, can’t stand her,” The other girls giggled at that, knowing of her discontent for that girl. “But everybody knows that there is nobody better for Ao’nung than you.”
Another wave of nodding occurred, as well as mumbles of agreement.
“I don’t know about everyone…" [Name] reasoned, not believing that the entirety of the clan believed that [Name] was best for the leader’s son.
“No, it is everyone. Every girl and their mother knows that you are the best for him.”
“We have seen you two, he is so much nicer to everyone when you’re around.”
“Not to mention how nice he is to you.”
“When you first became friends, he actually started to be nicer. Like, not bullying people!”
“Yeah, that was nice.”
“And to think that is all because of you.” One of the girls threw the back of her hand on her forehead and pretended to faint.
[Name] sat there looking at all the girls confirming the situation with Ao’nung as truth, her face hot and flushed. [Name] hardly knew what to think, everyone thought Ao’nung and [Name] should be together? Her best friend, the one who took her in when her family failed, the man who had unknowingly carried her heart so gently for months. They were best for each other? [Name] found herself smiling at the thought, after coming second in the race, who knew that this day could get better?
“Even the Tsahik, interrupter of Eywa, his mother, thinks that nobody is better for her son than you,” One of the girls whispered, making the whole circle smile like madmen.
“Their whole family thinks you are perfect for one another.”
[Name]’s flushed a deep red at that. It was one thing for the clan to think they should get together, but his parents? The Tsahik? The implications of that were on an whole other level. [Name] had begun to think about how maybe they could court each other. Being the son of the leaders, and [Name] being the daughter of outsiders, she didn’t think it could ever happen. Never allowed to be. But after hearing about the clan as well as the leaders hoping for them to be, [Name] couldn’t help but hope for mutual feelings from Ao’nung.
Ao’nung’s parents had been nothing but loving since the day her family cornered [Name]. After finally leaving her family, Ao’nung brought [Name] back to his family’s marui, where he explained to his parents what had happened. His parents were more than happy to let [Name] into their home. That night was spent sharing shed tears and comforting on another. From that day on, [Name] stayed with Ao’nung’s family and they loved her like one of their own.
Ronal’s love really solidified when [Name] offered to help her and Tsireya with their tasks and chores. At first, Ronal was unsure but as she watched [Name] help her daughter, staying kind and caring even when things got stressful, Ronal found herself wondering how anyone could forget about [Name].
[Name] smiled at the thought of finally having a family who loved her. After a moment of the circle of weaving flower crowns, [Name] decided to share her plans for the next day.
“Ao’nung asked me to explore the reef with him tomorrow,” [Name] smirked knowing the girls would eager to know more. “And he made sure I knew that we would be alone.”
“What? No way!”
“Oooooo, somebody has a date~” One girl sung.
“You have to tell us everything!” The girls giggled.
[Name] smirked to herself as the girls leaned in to hear her next words.
“He said we would end at the beach just before eclipse.” [Name] whispered, leaning in herself.
“Thats when the sky is the prettiest!”
“You are so lucky, you know? Ao’nung a year ago was the worst.” More giggling sounded from around the circle.
“That is so cute! Do you think he will ask to–”
“They can’t until she has competed Iknimaya.”
[Name] knew what they were talking about. Iknimaya was the rite-of-passages that lead to becoming an adult in the Metkayina clan. [Name] had completed many of them over the last few months with her soul sister, the Tulkun she bonded with, but she hadn’t complete the last one.
Taming a skimwing.
[Name] knew that Ao’nung had already completed this last rite-of-passage and had become an adult in the eyes of the clan. Ao’nung was already eligible for a mate, unfortunately [Name] would not be in the selection if she did not become an adult herself in the eyes of the clan.
“Oh, she will be able to complete it soon. Won’t you [Name]?”
[Name] smiled, focusing back on her flower crown. She planned to complete that very soon.
Kiri hesitantly enters the marui where her family resides. She can see so clearly on their faces the regret and broken hearts. Ever since the day that she, Lo’ak, and Neteyam sought out answers from [Name], they had been a broken family. Kiri wasn’t sure how they were able to miss so much of [Name]’s torment, or how they missed how they were the cause of it. Years of neglect had lead [Name] to find family in the Metkayina rather than her own. Kiri understood now just how much that neglect affected her oldest sister.
It was a shame, Kiri could hardly remember her youth with [Name], and she knew Lo’ak and Neteyam felt the same. Looking through their memories of [Name], one would think that [Name] wasn’t even related, at best a distant cousin. [Name] was a blur in their minds, and after a while of not seeing [Name] around, they began to forget what she looked like. Although one would think that someone could recognized their sibling in a crowd, the only tell that [Name] was their sibling was that she was the only formerly-Omatikaya body in a crowd of Metkayina.
Kiri’s heart hurt every time she watched the familiar blue body of her older sister leave the Olo'eyktan and Tsahik’s marui in the mornings. It wasn’t often that any of the Sully family saw [Name] anymore and because of that, Kiri woke up at the same time every morning to watch [Name] swim off with her friends.
Almost every time she saw [Name], she was reminded of the night [Name] finally severed herself from the family she grew up with. Walking back to their marui had proven difficult as the prospect of telling Tuk of what had happened was enough to break their hearts. Their oldest sister was everything to their youngest sister. It was hard to imagine why they were so close, being that Kiri and her brothers never actually saw Tuk and [Name] hangout, they just knew that they did.
The walk back was slow, their footsteps the whole way heavy, a thousand thoughts wrapping around their heads like a hurricane.
She’s gone. How is she gone? Where did we go wrong? What just happened? How could we forget about her.
Kiri will never forget the look on their parent’s faces when they heard about [Name]. Neytiri dropped to her knees, eyes blown is shock. Jake just stared, still in his place. The three had just walked into the marui, hearing Tuk, Jake, and Neytiri laughing. Laughing that stopped abruptly when they saw the looks on their sibling’s and children’s faces. Expressions that could rival losing a loved one, which, one might suppose they did.
After the initial shock, they all watched as Neytiri brought Tuk close as tears started to stream from her eyes. Between Tuk and Neytiri, there was enough tears to be labeled as a waterfall. Jake didn’t move, stuck in his mind, only coming back to when his two sons came to his side, hugging him tight.
It was difficult to describe the pain that went to their hearts that day. Both from losing [Name], but also from their own personal inadequacies. How in the entirety of Pandora could they forget their oldest daughter. Their daughter who they know was always there for them, even if they didn’t let her. She was always by their side, helping them with whatever they needed. There was a point where [Name] was left to take care of her siblings every time her parents went on dates. [Name] had always had their backs and they stabbed [Name] in hers.
[Name] was the reason Jake and Neytiri wanted more kids. Even from the beginning, [Name] never made a fuss. She was the sweetest child they could hope for, always giggling and smiling at them. As Neytiri was pregnant, they would tell [Name] of how she was to become a sister, and even as a baby, [Name] seemed overjoyed to be an older sibling. Then Neteyam was born and it was like a switch flipped and [Name] no longer was the centre of attention. Sure, she still had some attention, being a baby in all. But as she was nearly a year older than Neteyam, when Neteyam and Kiri turned one, [Name] became an afterthought. Only really being cared for after Neteyam and Kiri.
Jake and Neytiri never meant to overlook their oldest child, but as the years flew by and they gave attentive care to [Name]’s siblings, it became unforgivable. There is a certain point where the neglect becomes intentional. A point when one is no longer able to ignore the fact that it would have been difficult to actively ignore someone you see every day for the first half of their life. If this was accidental, it happened out of a lack of care.
Lo’ak was gutted, not only because of [Name]’s separation from the family, but also because Tsireya stopped talking to him. [Name] had always been there for him, this much he knew. But over the years her face started to fade in his memories, only seeming to have actually hung out with her while they were young. Lo’ak knew that [Name] cared for him, but he couldn’t remember why he knew that. What actions in their past made him believe this about her.
He tried to look back, remember what his older sister was like when they were young. He was born not long after Kiri, and he remembered [Name] being around a lot, taking care of him and giving him her care and attention. [Name] was young as well at the time, but that never stopped her from offering a small hand to Lo’ak when he fell. As the years flew by, Lo’ak remembered less and less of his oldest sister, being as he started to push her away. A truth Lo’ak was finding hard to accept as of late.
Neteyam remembered more than most of his siblings, having been there with [Name] the longest. He remembers learning to hunt and shoot with her, running off in the forest away from Jake who was pretending to be a monster with her. He remembers [Name] fixing his small cuts from falling and placing leaves on his blisters caused by their bows. But much like Lo’ak, his memories of his sister faded as she became a background character in their important lives. Yes, [Name] was always still there, but she felt like a ghost. Only reminder that she was there was her soft movements that would usually head in the direction of the forest.
The two boys were not only upset at her leaving, but at their parents neglect to their oldest sister. They were upset at Ao’nung for taking [Name] from them. And they were upset at themselves for letting their sister become distant and separated from their lives practically their entire lives.
Although everyone took this news to heart, the one that took it the hardest was Tuk. Tuk had always loved [Name], and from the moment she was born [Name] had loved Tuk. Tuk was the first to have experienced [Name]’s matured and more motherly love. Even though [Name] was still young, she was in no way considered a baby, and thus was more than capable to take care of Tuk.
And take care of Tuk she did. Tuk was by far the most loved child, not only because she was the youngest, but because she had [Name]. [Name] was always there to care for her, being pretty much the only other one to hold Tuk when she was young, other than their parents. While Tuk was a baby, [Name] could often be found trying to make her baby sister laugh, entertaining her for hours.
As they grew, the two only grew closer. [Name] taught Tuk everything she knew, and although she knew Tuk was to get a lot more attention than she did, she made sure that Tuk knew she was enough just on her own. Tuk learned about beading, flower crown weaving and the basics of healing from [Name], all things she couldn’t quite do with her tiny hands but enjoyed learning none the less.
Tuk began to hang out with her other siblings more as she grew older, but still always found time to enjoy [Name]’s company. [Name] couldn’t blame her youngest sister for wanting to hang out with her other siblings more, for she wanted that just as much. But [Name] knew that she had tried and there was no reason to continue to bug her siblings further. So she let Tuk run off with Kiri and Spider, and get into trouble with Lo’ak. Lo’ak always the one getting in trouble, even if it was Tuk’s doing.
Tuk remembers the most of her siblings, even more than Neteyam, so when she heard of [Name] not going to be in their lives anymore, Tuk felt as if her heart was pulled out. Tuk, being as young as she was, couldn’t even find a way to communicate her sadness over the loss of her sister. Tears seemed to only stop flowing from her eyes when there were no more tears left to cry. The Sully’s had to make sure she was drinking lots of water being as she almost never stopped crying. They were worried for their youngest, who didn’t stop crying even in her sleep. Tuk’s experience with [Name] was so positive that if Tuk didn’t already have a mother who loved her immensely, she would ask for [Name]’s love as a replacement.
Tuk never wanted to leave the marui, only really doing so to see Ilus. Her family’s attempt at making her feel better, and while it did a little, it only really confirmed just how much damage their neglect had on [Name].
Tuk only really stopped crying when one day Tsireya came by and offered to take Tuk out for the day. Kiri remembers how grateful her family was that Tsireya was giving Tuk an opportunity to get some fresh air and enjoy life again. What Kiri didn’t know, was that Tsireya planned to meet up with [Name].
When Tuk caught sight of [Name], she ran to her with no hesitation. Tuk spent the rest of the day held in [Name]’s arms. The walked on the beach, explored more of the reef and played on Ilus, all while Tuk was firmly wrapped in [Name]’s warm embrace. She didn’t leave her arms for hours, only letting go once it was past eclipse and Tuk knew she should be getting home if she didn’t want to get into trouble.
When Tuk got home, the entire family notice just how much happier Tuk was. The girl finally wasn’t crying every moment.
From then on, it became a regular thing for Tuk hang out with [Name] and her friends for the day, and everyday Tuk would come back home with a smile. Even if someone would ask what has gotten her smiling, she would smile and shrug, not giving any more information.
One day, Tuk came home with a pretty flower crown on her head and her parents along with her siblings were in awe. Kiri remembers one of them asking if Tuk had made the pretty crown that sat comfortably on her head. Tuk only shook her head, stating simply that it was [Name]’s handy work and skipped over to where dinner had been prepared.
Their stomachs dropped, Tuk had been hanging out with [Name]? [Name] let her do that? And when did [Name] become so good at weaving flower crowns? The wondered if Tuk taught her, knowing that Tuk had made them all flower crowns when they were young. Desperate to have their questions answers, they asked Tuk.
“Who taught [Name] to weave? Did you, Tuk?” Neytiri asked, watching her youngest closely as to not miss a sliver of information about their oldest.
“What? No silly. She taught me. [Name] has always been the best weaver in the clan, this clan and the last.” Tuk stated simply, smiling to herself as she thought about all of the beautiful projects [Name] was able to make.
“She taught you? When did she teach you? And when was she taught?” Jake asked, the last part more to himself but everyone else in the marui caught it.
“Of course she taught me! Who else? She taught me a long time ago, remember when we gave you those flowers crowns a while ago? Yeah those were hand made by [Name], I was only able to make two of them. It’s hard with my tiny hands.” Tuk finished, taking a bite of her dinner.
“She made those? We thought you did…” Kiri muttered.
“You think I did? I was like 5.”
“Who taught [Name] then?” Lo’ak asked, eyes furrowed in confusion.
“I don’t think anyone did. I think she has learned a lot of things from watching people. You know, because nobody will teach her,” Tuk explained, taking another big bite of her dinner, of which she seemed to enjoy.
They weren’t sure if Tuk realized it or not, but her statement was a silent dig at their parenting. Parenting that for [Name], didn’t include much teachings. Besides being taught to hunt and use a bow, [Name] was not taught about much else, leaving her to figure it out on her own. If watching people was how she learned, then that really reflected how poorly Jake and Neytiri had been at teaching her.
That night ended cold and sad for the Sully family. The thought of not realizing yet another part of [Name]’s brilliance weighed on them.
It was a bright day in the reefs, the water was warm and the breeze gentle as [Name] and Ao’nung explored the colourful corals and wildlife that the Metkayina clan had to offer. Rounding the corner of a particularly colourful piece of coral, [Name] found herself face to face with a grinning Ao’nung looking at her.
“What?” [Name] signed, slightly worried at his all too happy expression.
“What? I can’t smile?" Ao’nung teased, signing back.
“Not when your smiling like you have something planned,” [Name] signed.
“Why is it that you always think I am up to something?” Ao’nung signed, lifting his brow playfully.
“If you saw your expression right now, you would understand why,” [Name] giggled, watching Ao’nung rolled his eyes playfully.
Only a few hours later, [Name] and Ao’nung found themselves walking on the beach side-by-side. The sun was low, teetering on eclipse, making the bioluminescence of the water and the wildlife glow a marvellous, ethereal light that [Name] was never able to get enough of. Their walk was slow and silent, but brought great comfort to both of them.
Their hands hung by their sides, brushing one another from time to time but neither had the heart to move away or take the chance and grab the other’s hand. [Name] sighed, her mind on the day she left the Sully family.
“I just want to thank you for helping me that day, you know, bringing me into your friend group and all. I have never forgotten that day, and not a day goes by that I don’t appreciate what you have done for me,” [Name] confessed, slowing down to as stop in order to get her message across.
“It’s alright [Name],” Ao’nung begun, stopping next to [Name] before turning to face her.
[Name] cut Ao’nung off before he could continue, “Really. I have no idea where I would be if you and your friends didn’t come to make fun of me that day.”
Ao’nung grimaced at that. Making fun of the girl before him was not something he like to remember.
“It’s really okay, I am glad we are friends.” Ao’nung said in attempts to comfort the girl in front of him. He grabbed her hand gently and guided her to sit next to him on the beach as she continued.
“And everything you have done for me since! You really are the best, thank you so much for all you have done for me,” [Name] spoke earnestly, looking directly in Ao’nung’s eyes, something that caught Ao’nung off guard.
“[Name], I would do it all again a million times if it meant becoming friends with you,” Ao’nung spoke truthfully, that familiar tease in his voice none existent as he gazed into [Name]’s eyes. “I would do it all again in a heartbeat.”
[Name] smiled at his words, watching Ao’nung’s face once again. There was that look again. That look of softness that was oh so rare, sitting perfectly on Ao’nung’s smooth face. A moment went by, the two of them just looking in each other’s eyes. But then [Name]’s mind went back to what she was thankful for, Ao’nung could practically see the shift on her face.
“Thank you so much for all that your family has done as well. Letting me into your home must not have been easy but I am so grateful for all that you and your family have done to make me feel at home.” [Name] began again, she spoke as if this had been weighing on her for a while, and it probably had.
Ao’nung let out an amused huff, shaking his head affectionately, “[Name], please don’t worry about it. We love having you around. Honestly, I think my mother likes you more than me at this point.”
“She does not,” [Name] smiled, shaking her head.
“I’m not even kidding, she will push me aside when you walk in,” Ao’nung joked, but somewhere in [Name]’s gut knew that it was not as much of a joke as Ao’nung was letting on.
“Thank you,” Ao’nung started, catching [Name] completely off guard. “Thank you for coming into our lives and making them better.”
Ao’nung paused for a moment, hesitating on whether or not to continue.
“Thank you for making my life better,” Ao’nung smiled softly, holding both of [Name]’s hands.
[Name] smiled as if she had never been told such beautiful words, and rested her forehead against Ao’nung’s. The sun set behind them, the beauty of pandora finally glowing once again, but [Name] and Ao’nung could only find bliss in each other in this moment.
Less than a week later, [Name] and Ao’nung along with some of their friends, were hanging out in the shallow waters next to a more secluded beach not far from the village. It wasn’t at all private, in fact many of the Metkayina kids favoured hanging out here in their free time. The beach was beautiful, long billowing overhanging trees acting as a sort of cover from the sun and the rare rain, and beautiful naturally growing flowers surrounded the beach.
It had been a long day mostly consisting of chores and teaching [Name] to successfully tame a skimwing. They were readying up for the day she would complete her last iknimaya, which would take place in just over a week. [Name] was excited to become an adult in the eyes of the clan and Eywa but at the same time she was beyond nervous about the whole ordeal. [Name] would manage though, after all she had all of her friends who were more than eager to help her in anyway. Ao’nung even offered to give her a ride on the skimwing he tamed, but [Name] declined as she didn’t want her experience to be different than any other kid in the Metkayina clan.
Regardless, they were taking the night to relax. [Name], Ao’nung and their friends were laughing and joking around all evening, finding humour in even the smallest of things. Even their own laughter was enough to keep them laughing. Some of their friends facing the beach’s laughter died down all of a sudden. Following in suit, [Name] and the others facing their backs to the beach, turned in order to see what was the cause of this sudden seriousness.
But when they turned around they found Lo’ak, Neteyam, and Tuk walking past. There was a moment of silence and that was when the three Sullys noticed the group watching them. The group grabbed [Name]’s shoulders, pulling her close and most importantly, away from her brothers, and sent nasty glares in their direction. Neteyam and Lo’ak’s heads lowered in shame when the noticed the darker blue body among the group. As they walked past, [Name] noticed Tuk looking at her, a familiar longing on Tuk’s face. So as they walked by, almost out of view, [Name] nodded at Tuk for her to join them.
Tuk’s light up, her smile as bright as the sun. She gave Neteyam a small tap that alerted him of her departure and run off to join [Name] and her friends. Tuk ran into the water and splash over until she crashed into [Name], who was more than happy to reciprocate Tuk’s affection. The day ended in smiles and contagious laughter, another good day in the Metkayina clan.
[Name] felt as if she was born ready. Born ready to finally tame a skimwing and become an adult. She had been waiting for this day ever since she started learning the ways of the Metkayina people. Her commitment, dedication, and passion kept her learning, growing, and building her skills. And it had all lead up to this day.
The task was rather simple, get on the skimwing, bond with it, and stay on the skimwing. And that was all she thought about as she moved to tackle the skimwing before her.
As she grabbed on, the skimwing darted forward and [Name] was reminded of Ilu racing. This couldn’t be much different, could it? Her question was quickly answered when she was promptly thrown to the side, [Name] swallowing a gulp of water as she hits the surface. [Name] had no other choice but get back up and try again. A lot was riding on this. If she completed this, if she managed to tame the skimwing, she would be an adult and they would hold a ceremony for her. They had already begun preparing it, already so sure of her awaited success.
[Name] made another quick movement, jumping back on the skimwing. This time she locked her legs around the slippery animal and grabbed both the queues, connecting them. All of a sudden everything became clear. The skimwing settled down, his heartbeat matching with [Name]’s as she felt everything in her body as well as his. With a firm hand on the handle, [Name] commanded the skimwing to move.
She was instantly jutted forward as the skimwing dove into the water. [Name] didn’t think she would be able to hold on, it quickly becoming a struggle. But after a few seconds, she started getting used to the feeling of water rushing at her. Readjusting her grip, [Name] told the skimwing to jump out of the water into the air, and the skimwing did.
Jumping out of the water, [Name] was left to see the whole clan watching her success and cheering her on. Bright smiles and enthusiastic clapping was heard from all around the village as [Name] and her skimwing made their rounds.
When the ceremony finally came, [Name] was practically bouncing in her seat. Her excitement could hardly be contained as she watched Ronal and Tonowari approach her with proud smiles, beads and necklace in hand.
“[Name], you have done much in the last year. Learning faster than most of our ways and you are more than eligible to become an adult in the eyes of Eywa,” Tonowari started, Ronal nodding proudly from beside him.
“These beads are to add to your songcord, as a way to commemorate your progression into adulthood,” Tonowari handed [Name] three small beads, one made of a small shell, one a pretty green bead and the last a small chunk from a tooth of a skimwing.
“And this,” Ronal began, laying the beautiful pearl and beaded necklace around [Name]’s neck. “Is a necklace that my daughter, Tsireya beaded for you for this special day.”
[Name] smiled at them, looking up at the leaders as if they were her parents, real parents that loved her. She smiled at Tsireya as well, who was standing just behind her parents.
“Now that you are an adult, you may get your first tattoo. The tattoo of your soul sister.” Tonowari smiled. “But all in due time, for now, we feast!”
The clan erupted in applause and cheers, another child growing into an adult of the Metkayina clan. A time to celebrate and enjoy.
Ao’nung took no time in approaching [Name] after she thanked Tsireya dearly for the wonderful necklace. [Name] was still fiddling with the necklace with a smile when Ao’nung appeared in front of her.
“You know, I helped her make that.” Ao’nung smirked, watching the disbelieving look creep onto [Name]’s face.
“Really?” [Name] deadpanned.
“Really," Ao’nung stayed smirking but there was no hint of deception on his face nor in his voice. “I mean, it was just a few beads and I told her your real size when she got it wrong, but I still helped.”
[Name] smiled, touched by the fact Ao’nung help make something so beautiful just for her.
“Thank you, Ao’nung,” [Name] smiled, moving to lay a quick peck on Ao’nung’s cheek. “I really appreciate it.”
Only two days later, [Name] and Ao’nung found theirselves walking down a beach again. The walk was silent but comfortable. The two were more than happy to enjoy the beauty of the world around them in silence as they walked hand in hand. They had just gotten back from a meal spent with Ao’nung’s family, as usual, when Ao’nung asked for [Name] to walk with him. When [Name] agreed, Ao’nung grasped her hand and tugged her in the direction of the shore.
The plant life was glowing around them once again, the darkness of the night only accentuating the already apparent beauty of pandora. Ao’nung noticed how beautiful the glowing speckles on [Name]’s face were as he snuck glances at her from the corner of his eye.
Ao’nung slows to a stop, his and [Name]’s attached hands brings her to a stop as well. Ao’nung turns to face [Name], and it met with her soft gaze. Ao’nung has always found [Name] beautiful, but in this moment, with the light from the flowers around her reflecting off the water and on to her soft face, Ao’nung thought she was the most beautiful entity in all of pandora. Maybe even the universe.
“[Name], I am so glad to have met you. You are every star in the sky, every thought I think, ever breath I take,” Ao’nung stares in [Name]’s eyes as if they were the gateway to her soul, a soul he has fallen in love with. He watches as [Name]’s smile starts to widen, her eyes starting to water.
“I wish to never leave your side, to be there for you forever,” Ao’nung’s smile begin to widen as [Name]’s hand cupped his face.
“I want to be with you forever, [Name],” His smile was soft, a reflection of [Name]’s soft smile as she put her other hand on Ao’nung’s cheek.
[Name] had been dreaming of this moment, and by the look on Ao’nung’s face, it was evident he had too.
“I see you, Ao’nung,” [Name] whispered so softly it was as if she thought she might scare Ao’nung away.
“I see you, [Name]," Ao’nung beamed, holding her neck and jaw in his evidently much bigger hands.
A small, happy tear fell from [Name]’s face. She wasn’t sure if it was Ao’nung’s attentiveness or the thought of finally finding someone who wanted to spend the rest of their life with her. Either way, [Name] was happy.
Ao’nung pulled her into an intimate kiss, their bodies stayed close as they moved in unison. The kiss was like a promise, filled with untold secrets and unspoken words. The kiss was first of many that night, and many for the rest of their lives, as they mated under Eywa. The two becoming one in a single, long awaited day.
The very next day, they told Ronal and Tonowari. At first they were worried that Ao’nung’s parents would be mad, but as the news came out, the two leaders were instantly beaming. Ronal brought [Name] into a tight hug, whispering in her ear at just how happy she was that [Name] was now her daughter under Eywa. Tonowari clapped his son’s back, telling him just how amazing a mate was going to be and how proud of him he was for choosing [Name].
Tsireya was just as happy, jumping around in circles with [Name]’s hands in hers when she heard the news. She told [Name] that she was happy to have a sister and about how much fun they were going to have.
In the next few days, [Name] got her tattoo, and started to learn the ways of the Tsahik. Ronal insisted [Name] learn the ways of the Tsahik if she was going to be the future leader of the clan. Tsireya, although she believed what her mother said, she also thought that it was just another excuse for her to hang out with [Name].
[Name] was beaming when she learned she would be taught the ways of the Tsahik, as she was not previously allowed to by her birth parents. [Name] although in line for the Tsahik, was never in the running, so as she was being taught, [Name] couldn’t help but be excited about every new thing she learned.
It had only been a few weeks since she mated with Ao’nung, when the Sully family came knocking at their marui. It was a surprise to all to see them, the Sullys were known to stick to themselves, never seen talking to anyone other than each other. [Name] was enjoying her dinner with her family when she saw them in the opening of the leader’s marui. Ronal and Tonowari stood up immediately, looking at the Sully parents with clear discontent.
“What are you doing here?” Tonowari asked, his voice commanding but restrained as he tried to remain civil.
“You have no place standing there, what is it you want?” Ronal demanded, not as patient as her mate.
Jake and Neytiri put their hands up as if to show they mean no harm. Still the two leaders of the clan stepped forward as to block [Name] from view, shielding her from whats to come.
“We just came to talk to [Name], if we could have a moment,” Jake asked calmly.
“No. Whatever you can say to [Name], you can say to us,” Ronal stated clearly.
“Okay…” Jake started hesitantly, seeing the hostile looks on each of the faces in the room. Particularly Ao’nung.
“We just wanted to say,” Jake looked around at his family for conformation, and when he got it, he continued. “That we are so sorry for what we did. And what we continued to do your whole life. I am sorry we neglected you and weren’t really there. We promise we care and love you.”
“We are hoping you will come back?” Neytiri tried, the her children nodding from behind her.
“Come back? After what you did to her, or really, all that you didn’t do for her?” Ronal roared.
Ronal was beyond pissed at this point, fed up with all of the neglect [Name] faced at the hands of her so called parents. It baffled her how they could treat such a sweet and amazing child like [Name], so horribly.
“You are out of your minds if you think that she would come back to you after all you have done.” Tonowari’s jaw was clenched and his fists tight, an almost identical expression on Ao’nung. “What do you even know about [Name]?”
Jake and Neytiri were frozen and at a loss for words. What did they know about [Name]?
“She makes flower crowns?” Neytiri offered, an already troubled by the lack of information she had about her oldest.
“Do you know her favourite thing to do is?” Ronal asked, immensely curious as to if she was going to get an answer.
Ronal’s question was met with silence and awkward shuffling from the Sully family.
“Did you know that [Name] has become the top Ilu racer?” Tsireya asked, peaking from behind her father.
Silence.
“Did you know that she had complete that last rite-of-passage and is now an adult of the Metkayina clan?” Tonowari asked.
More Silence.
“Did you know that she is mated to Ao’nung?” Ronal questioned, getting more upset by the second at the Sully’s silence.
More Silence.
“Did you know she is training to be the next Tsahik?” Ao’nung asked, becoming incredibly frustrated at his mate’s former family.
Once again, they were met with silence.
“Do you even know when is [Name]’s birthday?” Tsireya asked, mortified by the silence, tears already swelling in her eyes.
When the Sullys made no move to say anything, that’s when [Name] finally broke.
“It’s today. My birthday is today. You didn’t know that?” [Name] asked softly, her voice coming out as a broken whisper.
Tears were now streaming freely down [Name]’s face, right in view of the Sullys as Ronal and Tonowari stepped to the side.
It was then that Jake, Neytiri, Lo’ak, Neteyam, and Kiri all realized just how little they knew about their sister and daughter. [Name] had never really left, she was always within distance. At any point they could have ask someone, or [Name] herself, how she was doing. But they didn’t, instead they moped and let themselves feel bad for themselves as if [Name] had done something to them.
“Even Tuk knew, and she wished [Name] a happy birthday.” Tsireya added.
“Why didn’t you tell us Tuk?” Neytiri asked, turning to her youngest.
“It’s not my fault you didn’t know your first born’s birthday, can’t do your parenting for you.” Tuk stated simply before running up to [Name] and embracing her in a warm hug.
“You are terrible parents. Even after learning of your own inadequacies, for months you refused to learn and grow. You don’t deserve [Name], she deserves better.” Ronal informs them firmly, not shying away from the rudeness in her tone.
[Name] shook her head as she looked at her old family, “I can’t believe even after all of these years, you still have no idea what you have done to me. What I have lost because of you! I never knew what true happiness was like until we came here and I met some of my favourite people,” [Name] spoke, looking around at her real family with a small smile. “I am Metkayina now, I have found a family who loves me and actually shows they care for me!”
Ao’nung wraps his arm around [Name]’s shoulder and Ronal and Tonowari rest their hands on [Name]’s back, Tuk’s arms still firmly wrapped around [Name]’s. Her new family smiles at her, showing her the love and attention she has always wanted.
“I am daughter of Ronal and Tonowari now. Sister of Tsireya and mate of Ao’nung. This is my life and I love it more than anything. So please stop taking good things away from me!” [Name] finished, glaring at her former family.
The Sullys had tears in their eyes, Neytiri’s were streaming down her face, but they remained silent.
“You heard my daughter, we are her family now. Now leave, before I change my mind about let your family stay in our clan," Ronal’s threat hung in the air as the Sullys rushed to leave.
Each Sully left that marui more broken than before, knives plunged deeply into their chests. They knew they had been terrible to [Name], but as they just witnessed, it was clearly only a fraction of the damage they had done. Each of their hearts were heavy with the fact they had no idea anything about [Name]. How had they missed her rite-of-passage? Or her being mated under Eywa with the son of the leaders?
How had they not know that it was [Name]’s birthday?
The words said would haunt them for the rest of their lives. Lo’ak couldn’t believe he’d missed [Name] becoming an adult, when had that happened? Neteyam was shocked to learn that [Name] had a mate. Kiri was conflicted when she heard [Name] was learning the ways of the Tsahik, shouldn’t [Name] have been the one getting taught the ways of the Tsahik with Kiri, all those years ago?
Jake and Neytiri were beside themselves, their minds messes. They truly were terrible parents, weren’t they?
Tonowari and Ronal were left to comfort their oldest daughter when the Sullys finally left. [Name] was crying, Tuk still in her arms, as Tsireya and Ao’nung already begun comforting the girl.
“[Name], you know you will always have us,” Tonowari spoke, his voice soft, a stark contrast to how he spoke to the Sully family.
“Yes and you are loved and cared for here,” Ronal added, smiling down at the teary eyed girl before her.
[Name] couldn’t help but smile. Because after all, she knew that this family would never betray her.

He whimpered as he reached your waist to pull you off his overly sensitive pulsating cock, your wet folds sinking down on him with another breathy moan Tumbling from your lips.
His attempts were good for nothing as fat tears rolled down his flushed teal cheeks, your hands on his chest, chasing your upteenth orgasm as he begged to go slow, fucking him low and slow, drawling out the climax as much as you can, making him suffer in immense pleasure.
He looked up at you with teary eyes, mouth agape as he panted heavily leaning against the palm tree, the bark digging into his back but he didn't care, all his attention was on the way your pussy swallowed his cock like a snug glove designed for him, but the overwhelming sensation was making him go CRAZY as he watched your hips roll over his, your lewd moans were music to his ears, the jiggle and bounce of your tits were just enough to make him loose himself in you.
His tail thrashed like a wild cat, biting down on his lip to stop himself from moaning out loud, your Siren eyes knew everything, your submissive little plaything loved it when you-
"what happened, big boy? Go on, scream out my name, say my name, let them know who you belong to"
You crooned in his neck as he moaned, his grip on your waist tightened as he felt himself getting closer to another nerve-wracking orgasm "um'ma please- please go slow, yawne, fuck!-"
he groaned loudly as goosebumps spread through your body when he came and painted your red walls white, thick ropes of cum coating your pussy, not long before you came after him, gushing over his twitching cock still buried deep inside you.
You laid on top of him, both of you a panting plie of mess as his breath staggered, your face in his neck, planting soft kisses on the smooth skin of his chest and neck, sucking playfully time to time, his hands roaming on your back and hair.
He whimpered softly holding your hand softly and brought his braid forward for you to see, the pink tendrils of his queue dancing together "y- yawne- pha- please" begging you desperately but be was cut off by your kiss on his lips, silencing him into oblivion as his lips moved against yours, pulling you closer.
"shh shh~ I know I know" you whispered, your breath fanning over his lips, resting your forehead on his as you brought your kuru over and connected them, both of your gasps filled the air around you, your minds intertwined together on a level above a physical understanding.
"Ole nagti kameie" he whispered, tail wagging behind, forehead to forehead, nose to nose as he smiled softly.
"Ole nagti kameie"

pairing: sully familly x gn!reader, tonowari family x gn!reader

warnings: lowercase intended, mentions of torture but not elaborated, injuries
a/n: characters are aged up! hi there! i'm doing very well, thank you very much. i just came back from class and i got a few more ask after this so i'm very inspired in making and answering them. hope you enjoy this!

sully family:
being the youngest in the sully family has its perks. having 5 protective older siblings i’m adding spider ‘cause i can is fun! y/n has friends to play with them, someone who looks after them when their parents aren’t available, and their life is never boring
but when they came home crying, their knees scraped and bleeding after being pushed by their bullies during the kid’s nursery (i imagine there’s a nursery class that is just the na’vi kids interacting for early socialization in the clan)
their knees hurt, and their elbow also scraped due to the impact of the push, just crying that so, so, and so pushed them during nursery
neytiri was fuming, to say the least. no one messes with her baby. no one
jake was trying to calm his mate, reminding her that those are just kids and they mess up from time to time. it’s the parents you should get mad at because they didn’t raise their kids right
neytiri would then blame the kids’ parents for raising rotten kids that bullied her youngest and would threaten the parents if their kids bully her baby again
jake, on the other hand, would threaten the livelihood of the parents. would hold their family’s place in the clan above their heads and wouldn’t hesitate to banish them. to hell if they get killed by the animals that lurked in the dark
kiri was cleaning up y/n’s booboos while neteyam held his baby sibling
lo’ak plans on tripping said kids by holding his foot out and acting like he didn’t do anything (petty but hey, it’s a small way to get back at the kids)
spider would distract y/n by talling them stories that happened back in the lab. they loved hearing all the sciency human stuff and hearing them from spider was fun and he would probably join lo’ak on the pettiness
tuk was quickly weaving some bracelets to help her baby sibling calm down. she will do anything and everything to help her only baby sibling out
if said bullies had older siblings that are learning to be a warrior or a tsahik, neteyam and kiri would sabotage them. neteyam would destroy the weapons that the siblings had created for the training while kiri would add herbs and slimes that messes up the medicine the siblings would create mo’at gets disappointed at the bullies’ siblings for messing up their works
but, if we say that y/n is younger than lo’ak by a year (around 13) and took tuk’s place as the youngest, that’s another story
jake and neytiri would be the last to know that they’re being bullied by other na’vi’s because y/n begged their siblings to not tell their parents
neteyam and lo’ak would beat those bullies up to a pulp. they didn’t care if their dad would tell them off afterward. what matters is that they don’t get to harm their siblings ever again
kiri would destroy their image if said bullies were training to be a tsahik. she would tell mo’at a lot of things that would slowly hurt their character then, later on, would be told off and not be thought by mo’at
spider would join neteyam and lo’ak at one point but then again, he’s small while teen na’vi’s were hella tall so he becomes neteyam and lo’ak’s hypeman
overall: the sully family wouldn’t mind beating a few na’vi’s up when protecting their youngest. sully’s stick together!
Tumblr media
tonowari family:
y/n is the kid that didn’t have to do much to impress the family. they could just breathe and tonowari would throw a whole feast to celebrate it
ronal is a very doting mother. although a warrior and seen as a very serious tsahik, she would smile whenever she sees her youngest. also very protective. like, super duper protective that no one besides their family can interact with their youngest. if you do, she’d wave your head up on her spear and set it as a reminder to the rest that if you do mess with her youngest, you’ll be next
tonowari is much more doting than ronal but if the softer version. instead of being violent like his mate, he would rather let nature do the violence. why get the blood on your fingers when pandora can do the work? he didn’t want to hold his baby with the blood of their bullies
ao’nung is no different from their mother. but instead of giving the easier end, he would rather beat them up and keep them alive just to prolong to torture. torture = honoring his sibling’s existence
tsireya is the most normal of the bunch. but if she hears that her sibling is messed with, just knows the whole family is coming for their head. she would be with her sibling and distracting them while the family ‘talks’ with said bullies
so when one-day y/n comes home severely injured by her bullies, all hell broke loose
the parents of said bullies were held off by other metkayina’s while they watched ao’nung, rotxo, and a few other of their friends beat up the bullies
ronal was held back by tonowari because if he didn’t, ronal would’ve hurt the parents of the bullies or worse
tonowari eventually forcefully removed the family that tormented his youngest child because if he gives them a chance, his child might get hurt again and he’s not taking that risk
tsireya was tending y/n’s wounds and reassuring them that the bullies won’t hurt them again because their parents will send them away
tdrl: you hurt tonowari and ronal’s youngest, and you leave severely beaten up

When you return back home, you saw your brother, who had some bruises on his face and body. You asked “What happened?” you sat your bag down on the small table. “Your brother made fun of the Sully’s and got a beat” your father said as you looked at your brother disappointedly at him. “Oh Ao’nung” you said as you sat next to him as your mother had served everyone there dinner and sat down to eat.
You all talked about your day along with the process of the Sullys. After dinner, you helped clean up and went to bed with your sister in your shared room. That night you fell asleep, you had dreamed about water with stars in them, you weren’t sure if that was some kind of vision or just another dream but you felt as if it shouldn’t go ignored.
Ronal was holding the human infant in her arms, she had never cared for a human baby, she assumed it would be difficult but surprisingly not. Y/n was just like a regular Na’vi baby but smaller and different features. Ronal couldn’t help but be very protective of the infant, though the baby wasn’t her blood she still felt as if she needed to care for the child.
Tonowari had grown a soft spot for the human baby, he has never seen such a small creature in his life except for his daughter Tsiyera when she was still a baby, now a toddler learning how to talk and walk on her own. Like his mate he thought raising a dreamwalker child would be hard but the baby was just a baby.
Tonowari and Ronal had been teaching both Tsireya and y/n how to swim underwater, they had to teach them at a young age so that they could develop faster later. Ronal was worried that y/n would drown due to how small she was but surprisingly the infant had managed to swim in the water. “You did wonderful Y/n” Ronal praised the human infant lifting her up in the air causing the baby to giggle. Tonowari looked over at his mate seeing her interact with the infant while he has Tsireya on his shoulders. It warmed his heart seeing this.
A bit much later, Ronal had fallen pregnant again, Tsireya was now 4 years old and y/n was 3 years old. While Ronal was teaching Tsireya how to free-dive, Tonowari was teaching you how to hold a spear along with how to use it. He believed that since she was smaller, he would teach her how to be strong. He had let you hold his spear which was heavier then the smaller one that he made for you. “Okay y/n, be focused” the male said to the small child as she continued to held the spear with both hands. The little girl was slightly shaking do to the heaviness of the spear “now, throw it as hard as you can” he said as the girl did what she was told, though the spear didn’t go that far, it felt flat on the sand missing the target which was accouple feet away. “I missed” she said looking up at her father. “That’s fine, that why we’ll practice until you get it.” He said ruffling her hair.
The next morning, you woke up really early to go bathe with your mother and sister. You gathered some things such as your comb, some beads, wooden tin cylinders that contained both shampoo and conditioner, a bar of flower scented soap, another wooden tin that contained seaweed slime and a change of clothes.
Once you were ready to go, you left to the hot spring. The hot spring was surrounded by trees as a form of privacy, this was the women’s hot spring while the one for male’s was a bit further. As you all walked towards the hot spring some women stepped out while others went in.
When in the hot spring you greeted the women were there either bathing, talking or relaxing in the hot water. Some were helping their children bath and others were playing in the hot water. Some girls your age were in a small group talking, they were probably gossiping or talking about boys.
You had stripped from your clothes and stepped in the hot water. You and your sister helped your mother into the hot water, along with carefully getting her to sit. Your sister helped you take your hair down and wash it, she enjoyed washing your hair like you do hers. When she was done with your hair you then turned to her and also wash plus conditioned her long hair.
Then you moved to washing your body with the bar of soap, removing the scent of salt water, you’ll probably smell like sea salt later but you didn’t mind. Once you had removed the soap from your body you heard your mother “y/n come here” she said as she had finished with Tsireya’s hair, she had styled it the same like yesterday. You sat on her lap as she then began to comb your hair out. “How do you want it?” She asked as she began to apply aloe on your hair. “Anything is fine” you said as she began to work on your hair. Her hands were very gentle on your scalp, it felt like when you got your tattoo, at first you were afraid because the tattoo would hurt but she manage to make it feel as if a feather was going across your face.
You sat on her lap for a little bit as Ronal continued with your hair, meanwhile you were playing with the water in front of you, while your sister was now getting dressed. Whenever your mother did your hair you felt like a child again, even though you were of age, you would always be your mother’s baby. “Done” your mother said as you reached up and touched your hair feelings six sets of braids on your head with beads, while the rest of your hair was down reaching your mid back. “Thank you mother” you said turning to smile at her, she smiled at you and kissed your small forehead. She may be harsh and stoic around others but in private, she was a loving mother who wants the best for her children.
Then you stepped out of the hot spring and got dressed, you wore a pale colored top that was made with both thin rope and white pearls, the top was a gift from your mother, she made it herself. As for the bottom you wore a hip scarf that was the same color of your top with shells. When you were done you took a the wooden tin with seaweed slime and began to apply it on your skin, to keep it moisturized, the others didn’t really need it but you did since your skin was different.
Once you were done you and your sister began walking back to the village to find the Sully’s. “So, where were you last night?” Tsireya broke the silence as you looked up at her “oh, I was out...” you said feeling your face go hot then you saw your sister smile at you “are you interested in any one?” She asked the smile growing wider, making you nearly trip “I’m not sure... maybe?” you said shyly as she giggled at your shyness. “Its okay, I am also into a boy” she said making you gasp and turn to her. “Really?! Who is it?!” you wanted to know who it was but she just smiled at you, leaving you to wonder who her crush was.
That morning you had went swimming before meeting with the Sully’s, you swan where you normally swan. Seeing that the fish had woken up and went on to swim around, it made you happy seeing the schools of fish swimming around you, sometimes even swimming through your fingers or hair. Once you swam up to the surface to catch your breath, you saw your sister, brother, Rotxo, Lo’ak, Kiri, Tuk and lastly Neteyam. You smiled and greeted them “Good morning, how was your sleep?” you asked
“It was alright, thought Lo’ak snored all night” Kiri complained causing her brother to whine “No I didn’t that was Neyetam” he defended himself, which made your sister giggle at him. You noticed how when Tsireya would look at Lo’ak her eyes dilated, she also smiled more than usual, this caught your attention.
The small group of teens and child swan around the reef, Tsireya had been showing them places which contained beautiful plants along with other kind of fish to see. Mean while, Neyetam stayed close to you. Sometimes he’d need ‘help’ moving around by grabbing your small hand and let you guide him around. The evening was fun, no one was fighting, everyone was getting along. It made you smile, seeing that everyone was laughing and having fun with one another.
After that evening, Kiri and Tuk went home, Ao’nung and Rotxo went to find their other friends, Tsireya and Lo’ak went on their own way, suspiciously together. Leaving you and Neteyam. You were both sitting on the beach, watching the other villagers doing their daily tasks.
You then began to have a conversation about the things you liked such as food, weapon of choice and other stuff. You noticed how the forest na’vi paid close attention to you talk while you did the same. He told you about his adventures in his old home, he seemed to really miss his home. You wanted to be in his place, you wanted to know how he felt due to being in a place that wasn’t his original home.
Neteyam had all his attention on you, he looked at every small detail of yours. How you had a small scar on your lip along little ones on your hands, they must of been your hunts or fishing. He also noticed how you were a bit muscular. What caught his attention more was how when the sun reflected on you, you glowed like those fishes under water, beautiful. He had to contain himself when asking other questions, he didn’t want to offend you with a question he had been thinking since the day he saw you.
“Could I ask a question?” Neteyam asked shyly as you nodded, looking into his eyes. “Do you ever feel out of place? Since you’re different than the rest?” He ask. You nodded “yeah, in a way... I always wondered why I didn’t have the same skin like everyone, or tail, same with eyes and height. I would ask mother and father about it, but they’ve told me that Eywa has put me in their path for a reason.”
You answered honestly, your parents were fully honest with you. It was obvious that you were not their flesh and blood, but they love you as if you were. “My mother may not have given birth to me but she is still my mother, she was the one that raised me along with father, he took care and protected me like father does to a child.” You said as Neteyam listened closely, he did not want to miss any details. “Do you ever wonder who your parents are?” he asked as you then responded “sometimes, but I know that they had made the right choice in leaving me in good hands, I have two wonderful parents and siblings, another one coming on its way” you said happily, you loved talking about your family since you loved them dearly.
Neteyam couldn’t help but smile, he had already fallen in love with that lovely smile of yours. For a moment locked eyes with him again, those wide beautiful yellow orbs reminded you of the sun, you had noticed how he looked a lot like his mother, from his eyes, nose, fangs and hair, he was a carbon copy of her. But he also had his father’s features. That was the thing that you dearly wished to have, to look like both your parents like your siblings.
Tsireya looked a lot like father, but more gentle and feminine while Ao’nung looked like a carbon copy of your mother but masculine, but yet, they also had other features from both parents.
Just like yesterday, at night you both went for a swim, you worried he’d get in trouble but he told you not to worry. You both swam and played in the water for a what felt like a while. You both were playing a game of hide and seek under water. Neteyam had a heard time finding you since you were small and could fit anywhere. You’d normally jump out and surprise him causing to laugh. You had also noticed how his little spots on his face would glow, like stars in the water, he looked so heavenly under the water.
Afterwards he walked you home, as you walked towards your mauri, you both were joking each other quietly, not wanting to disturb the now sleeping villagers. Once you arrived you stopped to thank him. “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow” you said shyly, staring at him. Neteyam nodded smiling, finding your shyness adorable “yeah, have a good night” he said as he gave you one final smile and began to walk away. You watched him walk away, you continued to watch him until he was gone. You felt fish swimming in your stomach, he was the one, you just knew he was the one. That night when you laid in bed, you practically begged Eywa to destine you and Neyetam on being mates.

Fyolup: Eyes on me

When neteyam was told that his cute fyolup was coming with Norm to the metkayina village, he was over the moon. How he missed her so much! There was so much neteyam to tell her. What he learned, how his new life settled, but most of all, how much he has grown. And of course show off what he is capable of. Not to mention his new tattoos on his arm.
Already neteyam has things planned out for when she arrives. A full day of great activities, some including his siblings and some just for them two. Just thinking about it gets him riled up.
But also, Neteyam wonders what cute clothing fyolup would wear? Something suitable but also stylish to fit her taste. Of course, knowing her, fyolup would wear something for his eyes only and no one else.
Tumblr media
“Neteyam!”
The sweet sound of the voice he longed to hear again called out to him. On the sandy beach, not too far from him stood was fyulop. She has grown a lot in the past few months. Wearing his favorite teal summer dress, and a bright smile on her cute face.
Unable to hold it in, neteyam makes a run for it, and so does fyulop. Meeting each other in the middle, the girl jumps into his arms as he holds her tightly as he spun her around. Loud laughter escaped their lips, wide smiles and great happiness. For fyulop, it felt so good to be back in her lover’s arms. The feel of his skin touching hers, hearing his voice again. She missed it so much.
Not putting her down, rather carrying her on his shoulder, they stare at each other's eyes and foreheads touching. “I missed you ma’sevin” neteyam whispers to her ear. Humming in agreement, she nods. “And I have missed you ma’yawne” she replies. Having not rush to go back home, neteyam takes his time to show her firstly the grand beach. Holding her tightly so that she doesn't fall, not like she will. Neteyam starts to talk, letting his mind wander on recent memories.
And fyulop is all more eager to listen.
Tumblr media
“Neteyam, while I appreciate you looking at me for a long time, I am having self doubts now. Does it look good or not…?” Fyulop asks nervously. When she revealed her swimsuit, neteyam was in deep awestruck. He couldn't help but stare at her.
Her swimming outfit was a two piece. Strapless top with a matching bottom that was light blue with thin waving white lines. Giving the illusion of underwater lighting. To add to her personal touch, fyulop collected small shells from the beach and added it to her swimsuit. It is the little things that make things stand out more.
“I'm sorry love, it's just…oh eywa you look breathtaking” neteyam praises. Red hue colored fyulop’s cheeks. She certainly missed his praises.
Offering his hand, fyulop accepts. “Come on, there is so much I want to show you” neteyam tells her excitedly. Taking her from his family pod, he carefully leads her through the rather bouncy paths. Fyulop couldn't help but giggle as she bounces her way. It was like jumping on a trampoline!
Tumblr media
“Here, this is an ilu, like the dire horses at home. The people here use like in similar ways” neteyam explains while gently holding his ilu. Fyulop strokes its head gently, liking the pleasing sounds. And the ilu makes a sound of happiness, nudging his head against hers.
“He likes you” neteyam comments.
“I'm glad, cause I like him too. Such an adorable cutie you are” fyulop says in her baby voice.
Not far from where they are, ao’nung, rotxo, and lo’ak were nearing the shore with their ilu’s. Ao’nung noticed the human girl, his eyes fixated on her.
“Hey lo’ak, who is that?” he asks while pointing at fyulop. Lo’ak sees where he pointing at, “oh, that is fyulop. She came with our uncle norm to visit. Don't worry, she is harmless' ' lo'ak answers. But Ao'nung still couldn't stop staring at her or her pretty smile.
“Is she single?”
Tumblr media
“Hey fyulop, long time no see” Lo’ak welcomes the human girl with glee. Giving each other a warm hug, lo’ak joins in on whatever she and neteyam were doing. “So you are just going to ignore us lo’ak?” Rotxo teases behind the forest boy. Chuckling a bit, lo’ak shakes his head. “Right, sorry”.
Gently pushing ao’nung and rotxo in front of him, he points at who is who, “fyulop, this is ao’nung and rotxo. Guys, this is fyulop, she was born and raised here in pandora like spider” lo’ak introduces.
Fyulop giggled lightly, something that made ao’nung blush a tiny bit. Her giggles sounded so cute. He looks over and sees neteyam staring down at her with love and adoration. Crap, are they together? Hopefully not.
“Nice to meet you both. I hope you treated neteyam and his family well?” Fyulop asks. This made the boys chuckle nervously. “What? What happened? Did you guys fight each other?” Fyulop asks curiously.
“Well…you see..”
Tumblr media
“Skxawngs. All of you. Especially you neteyam. It is much for lo’ak to start but for you to continue it?” Fyulop gently scolds the boys as they tell her about their rough start of getting along. She gently tugs neteyam’s ear while making a playful yet serious face. Neteyam couldn't help but chuckle, her fingers were to ticklish!
Ao’nung saw their interaction, feeling his tail thump against the sand rather harshly.
“Speaking of, how much has neteyam showed you of our home?” he asks, switching the subject. Fyulop took a moment to think, “so far the pods, the beach and the cute ilu’s” she replies. Ao’nung make a clicking sound, shaking his head. “Clearly he is skipping the more exciting stuff. Why not let me show you the better parts of our home?” he offers.
Fyulop gasps happily, “really?” she asks.
“Of course, what better guide than me?”
Fyulop looks up to neteyam, her eyes already asking the question. He sighs, “he is right, but still”.
Taking the chance, ao’nung gets up and gently grabs fyulop’s hand already leading her the way. As he and fyulop began to chat, neteyam, lo’ak and rotxo looked at ao’nung with a surprised expression on their faces.
“Oh no he didn't”
“Oh yes he did”
Tumblr media
“And here is where we mostly trade things. Fish for beads, seaweed for grains, just about anything. There is something for everyone” Ao’nung shows fyulop the common areas that the na’vi spend their time. He showed her all the best places, ao’nung was pretty proud and a bit smug too. Getting cute reactions from fyulop was a treat. Even better to see neteyam fuming behind them.
Fyulop was enjoying sightseeing. The metkayina was so vastly different from the omatikaya! From how they look, to their ways, culture and style of clothing. Already fyulop had ideas of creating ocean inspired clothing. Maybe style it similar to how the metkayina do.
Neteyam on the other hand did not enjoy it. Nope. Not one bit.
If looks could kill, ao’nung would be deep in the belly of an akula.
Ao’nung had the sheer balls to not only touch fyulop but also hug her! Fyulop’s hugs are exclusive to neteyam only! Ok maybe his siblings too but mostly him! And too see that puny fishy skxawng touching his beloved made his anger rise deep within.
And poor fyulop, took caught up in the new experiences didn't notice what fishlips was clearing trying to do.
Well, as her boyfriend and protector, neteyam knows what slimy things that fishy na’vi prince can do.
Tumblr media
If ao’nung knew just how easy it was to sway fyulop to trust him, he would have done it on the spot! Fyulop is just so cute and her clothing suits her figure. Actually, speaking of her clothing.
Ao’nung haven't really seen much of how humans dress. So to see this human girl dress in a certain way excites him. There is a lot to learn and see something new within fyulop and hopefully be closer to her.
Tumblr media
However, as days pass, almost as if on purpose, ao’nung takes fyulop’s time most of the day. Taking her wherever he wants, personally teaches her many things neteyam wanted to show her, among other things. And would shove the poor forest boy to the side. Giving no room for neteyam to intervene.
And it was pissing neteyam off.
Having enough of it, he did the only thing he knew best.
Tumblr media
“You know fyulop, you interest me a lot. It would be nice if you stayed longer. Spending time with you has been a lot of fun” Ao’nung tells fyulop. Together they walk across the sandy shores, the small waves of the sea barely touching their feet.
“It certainly has been a lot of fun. And while living here seems like a good idea, I worry for neteyam. He already has enough stuff to worry about”
Ao’nung makes an annoyed sigh. “I doubt that. But either way, at least think it over. We could have a lot more fun. Together”. He holds fyulop’s hands into his larger ones. Making eye contact and hopefully what he is trying to do works.
Only it didn't.
Fyulop was gently yanked back by an angry neteyam.
“I think you had enough time with her,” Neteyam says. Trying his best not to hiss at ao’nung. But the reef prince scoffs a bit smugly. “And who are you to choose for her? She can do what she wants”.
“You’re absolutely right ao’nung” Fyulop agrees.
The boy smirks at neteyam who only glares harder.
“That means I can do this”
With a gentle yet quick yank from his necklace, neteyam was yanked down and was given the most passionate kiss ever.
Fyulop was kissing him as if to prove something. And boy did neteyam enjoyed it. With zero hesitation, neteyam kisses back, laughing on the inside. If he were to have a fourth finger right now, he would be flipping it in ao’nungs face.
“And, what I want to do is spend my time with my sweet neteyam. Thank you ao’nung for showing me, but I think neteyam can take it from here” fyulop says with a not so innocent smile.
Ao’nung was shocked, flabbergasted, speechless, and everything else. Damn it.
“You heard her skxawng” Neteyam says with a victorious smirk on his face. Clicking his tongue, ao’nung leaves in defeat.
With a happy cheer, neteyam picks up his love and spins her around.
“You were so jealous~” the girl teases as she boops his nose. But neteyam caught her finger, gently nibbling it. “And you watched me. Didn't do anything to ease my heart” neteyam accuses. This made fyulop stroke his ears as she leans closer and asks in a cooing manner, “Than what can I do to ease your jealous heart?”
He grins and replies “you know what”
Tumblr media
Aaaaaaaand that is it for this one! Was cute to write. Until next time! See ya!

Avatar characters as love stereotypes
ft. jake sully, tsu'tey, tonowari, ao'nung, lo'ak, neteyam, tsireya, kiri
Tumblr media
⤷ Jake Sully - soulmates
You and Jake just were meant to be. He is blindly in love with you. He would do anything for you. He's the type of guy who's like 'touch her and I'll kill you'. He likes watching night skies with you, talking about stars, constellation, stories and everything that comes to yours or his mind. Be together all the time. Small touches - even if it's touching your arms or leg or tail, he takes it. I can tell that Eywa wanted you and Jake to be together - that's why are you two soulmates.
⤷ Tsu'tey - whatever it takes
Tsu'tey would be very protective over you. More like overprotective. He would do everything to be with you. He even argued with Eytukan because of you. But it's not always fights and arguments with him. When you two are alone, he's sweet and kind. Rides around forest on direhorses or flying in the clouds on ikrans. It doesn't matter what you two are doing, the important thing is that you're doing it together.
⤷ Tonowari - old love
Tonowari is a strong leader and honors tradition that's why it's old love. He loves spending quality time with you while you two are doing something productive like training or exploring or just swimming in the ocean. Racing on skimwings. Making and eating food together in peace. He absolutely loves it when you give him back massages because his muscles are tight. But he loves your eyes the most.
⤷ Ao'nung - she felt first but he felt harder
Ao'nung didn't like you at first. Yes you're very pretty but that wasn't enough for him. He also cared about your personality, look wasn't everything to him. So at first he teased you because it was fun but along time he started teasing you just to talk to you, just to touch your cute ears or tail, just to see wrinkle your nose when you were mad at him. He loves you harder than you can ever imagine.
⤷ Lo'ak - love at first sight
Lo'ak fell in love with you instantly. You always had his back whenever he was in trouble. But mostly you two were in trouble together. He loves learning new things with you. He sure show off when you're watching but he mostly fails or do something stupid which is always very funny and makes you both laugh. Your presence is very calming to him, you're his safe place. After every fight with his father he comes to you to relax and calm down.
⤷ Neteyam - true love
Neteyam and you just clicked. Your personality, your vibe was just matching with each other. Neteyam is very protective over you. He will be a great leader in the future and you're helping him a lot without even knowing it. Neteyam in your presence is more calm and he forget about any doubts or responsibilities he have in his mind. Helping each other in everything. Respecting and supporting each others goals!
⤷ Tsireya - bestfriends to lovers
Tsireya always had a soft spot for you. You were best friends since your childhood but over time and also with the help of growing up, she realized that she loves you. Her nickname Reya came from you actually. When you first called her than, she was surprised but she was so happy. You make her feel special, warm and fuzzy inside. She loves it. Supporting each other. You make her smile every time. Spending time in ocean with you it's her favourite common thing to do.
⤷ Kiri - any universe
Kiri is very perceptive and I believe it wouldn't take her long to realize that she is in love with you. Maybe Eywa and her mother help a with it. She would love just be in the woods with you, doing nothing just laying on the ground, feeling the nature. Lots of small touches - like holding hands. Deep talks. Trying to make new food together. Watching stars at night and telling each other funny or mystery stories.

masterlist
“C’mon! We have to go get Spider!” Lo’ak nodded his head towards the inside of the ship as you cut him free from his restraints.
“What?” you responded, unable to process what he’d just said.
Your older brother behind you, Neteyam, cut off the tie bounding Tuk’s hands with a dagger, and another quick snap further behind told you Ao’nung had just cut off Tsireya’s.
You and your siblings were in the middle of a full blown war.
Besides almost getting crushed by Payakan, getting taken hostage, killing about 5 people trying to save your siblings, and witnessing the deaths of many of your own people, things in your opinion were going great so far.
“C’mon sis, we can’t leave without him!” Lo’ak crouched down, picking up a gun from one of the fallen na’vi soldiers slouched against the railings, blood seeping down their skull.
Your gaze was fixed on the grip of the gun that was firmly clasped in his fingers, stained with red at the bottom. The blood trickled down silently, creating a small pool on the already drenched floor, yet it seemed inconsequential amidst the chaos.
In that brief moment of dread, a warm hand fell on your shoulder, squeezing it reassuringly.
Something similar to fear took over your body, causing you to be unable to take your eyes off your younger brother who looked at you hopefully, while you stood there like a deer caught in headlights.
It wasn’t like you didn’t want to save him. The images of blood spraying all over replayed in your mind, making it hard to focus on anything else.
“You don’t have to go if you don’t want to,” a comforting voice drifted through the air, pulling you back into reality.
The foreign accent had a calming effect on your senses, a zap of electricity running down your queue.
Whipping your head, you met the eyes of the person who had spoken, the comforting shade of aquamarine looking back at you with such emotion.
Lo’ak rolled his eyes at the sight, a low growl forming in his throat. He never approved of your relationship with the boy, but what could he do about it? He was in love with the man’s sister!
Neteyam sauntered towards your brother, braids waving wildly in the air as they always did.
“I’ll go with you,” he nodded at Lo’ak, ignoring Ao’nung completely as he looked at you, seeking any form of approval.
Your brows knitted together, and you shook your head.
“It’s fine. I’ll go. We all know I’m a better warrior than Neteyam anyways.” you joked, attempting to lift the mood.
“Are you sure?” Neteyam said softly.
“Positive. You should go and help out the other warriors.” you nodded, feeling the comforting warmth of Ao’nung’s hand leave your shoulder.
Looking back at him, you could see the fear and concern etched on your lover's face. He looked so perplexed, a reaction you’d never seen on his face before.
Before you could take a single step, his arms pulled you in for a hug as if he was shielding you from any threat that could harm you.
He didn’t want you to leave.
Lo’ak and Neteyam groaned, looking instead at the ocean, watching the metkayina and the sky people battle for their opposing goals.
Ao’nung leaned in and pressed his forehead against yours.
"Please be careful."
The sound that came from his mouth was barely but a whisper, as if he would choke if he said it any louder.
You smiled, placing a hand on his neck reassuringly.
“I’ll come back to you. I promise.”
As the words left your lips, you waved a farewell to him before going inside the ship, Lo’ak in front of you.
The thumping of your heart echoed in your chest like an empty chamber. You weren’t going to break a promise.
At least,
not this time.
“Lereho!” a guttural, high pitched scream reverberated throughout the forest.
The sleeping creatures lifted their heads up in the sky, ears pointing in all different directions, attempting to make out the source of the scream.
“LEREHO!” a 7-year-old you screamed even louder, tears flowing down your pale face as you looked at the rusty helicopter.
The rusty helicopter which had now trapped your friend inside its worn down metal walls, and he scratched against the door endlessly, trying to get out.
“I- I-” your words were unable to come out, your entire body trembling with fear.
The large metal body was encased in mossy vines that suspended it above the lake, and Eywa knows Lereho couldn’t swim to save his life.
“I’LL GET HELP, LEREHO! PLEASE STAY HERE!” you cried out, praying to the Great Mother he could hear you.
“I PROMISE I’LL GET YOU OUT OF THERE!” you yelled, your voice hoarse and strained, your entire body buckling down with the weight of your words.
You turned back and ran as far as you could, as fast as your legs could take you. Your face was all scrunched up and your eyes were full of tears, partly obscuring your vision.
Branches scratched your body and drew blood from your fresh wounds, but you didn’t care. Guilt overtook your body and put you on autopilot.
If you hadn’t told him to, he wouldn’t have gone in the helicopter with you.
If you hadn’t been stupid, you wouldn’t have closed the door.
If you hadn’t slipped on the vines on your way back to solid ground, the helicopter wouldn’t be creaking slowly, on its way to submerge him fully in the lake.
If you hadn’t been friends with him in the first place, maybe he would’ve been alright right now.
You wiped the water from your eyes and the snot from your nose harshly with your bleeding hands.
By the time you returned with your father, all that was left were the torn apart vines flowing loosely in the wind of the night.
They couldn’t even retrieve his body.
Beads of water welled up at the corners of your eyes as you crouched along the wall, Spider in your sights.
Blinking rapidly to get rid of them, you leapt down with Lo’ak, taking care of the humans surrounding your friend mercilessly.
You screamed as you smashed the last one’s skull along the railing, flipping them into the water, heavy pants leaving your chest as the adrenaline wore off.
“Woah. You alright?” Lo’ak gasped, slightly concerned.
“I’m fine,” you breathed out. “We have to go, now.”
You grabbed a gun from one of the dead soldiers, and not long after you heard the sounds of rapid gunfire hit metal a bit too close to you for your liking.
With your instincts you dove out of the way, grabbing Spider with your free hand and quickly crawling along the floor towards the moonpool, ensuring that Lo’ak was still behind you.
The shots from the gun made the air burn in your lungs, and you coughed vehemently before hiding behind a wall just in front of the moonpool, whispering a quick apology to Spider for being so harsh with him.
“You two go!” you shouted at the two boys behind you, whipping out your gun in an attempt to kill the bastard who was shooting so restlessly at you.
“Are you nuts? We aren’t leaving you!” Lo’ak yelled back, considerably offended you’d think he’d abandon you so easily.
“Just go now! I’ll be fine!” you growled, taking another shot at the recom.
Amidst the deafening sounds of gunfire, you were able to discern two distinct splashes in the water.
Retreating behind the wall for cover, you swiftly reloaded your weapon with the remaining ammunition scattered on the ground.
Taking a deep breath, you braced yourself and emerged once again, determined to make your final shot count.
Ao’nung whipped his head around frantically as he stood on one of the ships purposed for hunting tulkun, all of the previous occupiers…removed.
He looked towards the ship for any possible sign that you were still okay.
He’d witnessed Lo’ak and Spider riding away from the ship on an ilu, but where were you?
His heart beat faster and faster with every shallow breath he desperately took, unable to imagine what had happened to you.
Just before he was about to call his own ilu, he heard a loud splash from the water behind him.
He turned his body, bracing for a surprise attack, but instead, he got a surprise hug.
As your body melded with his, you rested your chin on his shoulder, feeling a calming sense of peace.
At first, his hands trembled as he placed them on your back, taken aback by the sudden embrace.
But gradually, he relaxed into it, a radiant smile gracing his face as he shut his eyes, savouring every point of contact between your bodies, determined to remember what it felt like.
There were so many things he’d wanted to say to you, but only three words left his quivering lips.
“You… came back,” he choked out, even attempting to hug you tighter, before realising that he might have been hurting you- to which he loosened his grip.
You sighed contently, gazing at the water behind him. “I promised.”
Just then, you saw something underneath the ripples of the ocean.
Everything was too fast for him to process.
One second, he was hugging you like it was the last thing he could ever do with you in the world.
The next second, it actually was.
His eyelids whipped wide open as he heard a gunshot, his body hitting the floor in the direction opposite to where he was originally standing.
You threw him out of harm’s way.
The last time he’d ever seen you was with your mouth agape and pupils shrunken into the size of his thumb, as you fell lifelessly backwards into the water with a loud splash.
“NO!” he screamed helplessly as he scrambled up from the floor, his knees scraping against metal as he crawled frantically towards the edge to see if you were alright.
The only thing he could see from the surface of the water was your blood slowly tinting the ocean red. No bubbles. No sign of you resurfacing.
Without hesitation, he plunged into the blood-red ocean, his body slicing through the water with a sense of urgency. As he dove deeper, his limbs thrashed and flailed, propelled by a desperate need to reach you and bring you back to the surface.
His panicked movements grew increasingly frantic as he searched for you, his bloodshot eyes darting around frantically in the murky depths. Every fibre of his being was focused on finding you, but as he scanned the water, he realised with a jolt that you were nowhere to be found.
Determined to keep searching, he pushed himself to swim deeper, his hands and feet churning the water as he scoured the depths for any sign of you.
But as he descended further and further into the abyss, his vision began to blur, and his lungs burned with the need for air.
Despite his physical limitations, he refused to give up, driven by a fierce determination to find you.
All he could see was the trail of your blood, leading him deeper into the unknown.
His fingers outstretched, he tried to reach you, but it was too late.
His lungs burned with a searing pain as he struggled to hold his breath. But he refused to give up, clinging to the hope that he would find you alive and well.
As the seconds ticked by, his chances grew slimmer, and his body began to betray him. His limbs felt heavy and sluggish, and his vision grew hazy with tears.
Despite his efforts, he simply couldn't hold on any longer.
He broke the surface of the water, gasping for air as his heart shattered into a million pieces.
The devastating reality of his failure hit him like a ton of bricks, leaving him reeling with a sense of loss and despair.
A soul-wrenching cry tore through the air.
The sound was so raw and guttural that it felt as if it came from the very depths of the earth itself, carrying with it the weight of a thousand shattered dreams.
It was the kind of cry that would make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, a sound that would haunt you long after battle was over.
The cries of the wounded and dying were nothing compared to the sheer agony and despair that his cry conveyed.
The realisation hit him like a ton of bricks - he had lost you forever.
The person he loved most in this world was gone, sacrificed her life to save his. The weight of his grief was so heavy that it felt like a physical burden, crushing him from the inside out.
He wanted to scream, to wail to Eywa, to beg for a chance to take your place.
But he was powerless, reduced to a helpless witness of his own tragedy.
He could feel the weight of his guilt like a physical pain, knowing that you had given your life for his.
Every following moment he had to live without you was a torture, a constant reminder of what he had lost.
He tried to fill the void with his duties, with distractions, with anything that would make the pain go away, but nothing worked.
He would lie awake at night, imagining the pain you felt, the last moments of your life. He pictured you sinking into the cold, dark depths of the ocean, alone and scared, the light fading from your eyes.
It was a pain that he knew would never truly leave him, a wound that would never fully heal.
He felt as if a part of him had died with you, and he knew that he would never be whole again.
They couldn’t retrieve your body. You couldn’t have a proper burial. He couldn’t ever see you again, not even through the spirit tree.
Having to explain what happened to you to your family almost killed him; he could only imagine the pain they felt if he was feeling that way.
He blamed himself. And deep down inside, he knew that they did too.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
there was a story that you heard from your mother. there used to be another deity apart from eywa, a darker being. that eywa created everyone with four arms, four legs and two heads. That it was the happiest the na'vi had ever been. The darker being, abaraxas, it was called, was jealous. So, he split them apart. The split apart Na'vi were supposed to spend their lifetime with their other half, your soulmate. That you were supposed to spend your life searching for your other half. The lucky ones found theirs, and the unlucky ones didn't.
loving ao'nung was like riding a small dingy raft in the sea. Some days, everything's calm and sweet, the waves lapping softly at your feet, and others, you were stuck in the biggest waves you've ever seen, things going up and down but in the end, you stayed on the raft.
That day, while you rode on your skimwing beside him, your eyes couldn't help getting drawn back to him over and over again, watching how he smirked to himself and how his tail swished back and forth behind him. As if he knew you were watching him.
You really wondered where he was taking you, what he wanted to show you and why today. It was around dusk and you watched the sun set, casting him in the pretty light, watching his arm muscles flex as he held onto his ilu.
After awhile, he seems to catch you watching him, and throws a mischievous grin towards you, making you flush a deeper blue. his ilu begins to slow down, and you stop as well. You drag your eyes away from him and finally seem to notice your surroundings. He's brought you to a small island, the prettiest you've ever seen. Teeming with tropical life, and the reefs before it are filled to the brim with marine life. Two different ecosystems seeming to collaborate and strive together. He pushes himself off his ilu, and helps you down from your skimwing. The touch is electrifying, and it's everything in your power that you do to stop yourself from reacting obviously to it.
He seems to feel it too, but you tell yourself you're probably overreacting. you both wade through the water to get closer to the small island, you giggling when all the marine animals seem to follow you, and a couple of hammerbrow fish brush against your thighs, making you laugh at the ticklish sensation.
you see Ao'nung's smile out of the corner of your eye and you flush, pretending not to see it. He leads the way through the beach, through the jungle while animals all stop and watch you move. He notices this and laughs.
"what's so funny?" you ask, wondering what's made him laugh and look so happy.
he smiles, "you, you really have a funny connection with all animals." pointing out your special connection with eywa.
"i guess." You respond, not really knowing what you were expected to say. But you love the way his dimples show when he smiles, so you don't really care.
you follow him in silence while he finds his way through the island. the entire time, your head is racing with thoughts. Where is he taking you? Should you say something, or should you stay quiet? you don't know but after awhile of internal debate, you speak.
"so, how'd you find this place?" you say, out of curiosity and half out of the need to say something to fill the silence.
he hums, seeming to think. "a couple years back i was in a hunt by myself and i got tired and i needed a break and i found this place."
"why'd you want to show it to me?" you ask, hoping he's about to confess his undying love and devotion to you. 'don't think that, that's so stupid' you chastise yourself
he looks away. you stare at him confused. Finally, he responds with "i thought you'd like it, since there's so much unbothered nature here."
the small part of you that just thought he was about to confess his love for you swoons. It seems to say 'see! i told you he was in love with us.' you sigh internally and push that small part of you away.
"that's sweet, thanks." you say, looking around more and noticing how crazy this place is, with so much life surrounding you, you can feel it humming in your veins.
he looks away, seemingly indifferent to your words. He mutters something under your breath that you don't quite catch, but you don't push him.
ao'nung stops at a small log on a small hill, and once again, you need to drag your eyes away from him to catch what he wants to show you.
you let out a soft gasp, at the prettiest sight you've ever seen. The sun's setting rays are shining on the water, the green flushed forest is reflecting the light back, and everything just seems so perfect and unbelievable you genuinely ask yourself 'have i died?'
"wow, ao'nung, it's beautiful" you say smiling softly.
"it is, isn't it?" he responds, looking away and turning to you.
'this is it' you think, 'maybe i should give him the necklace now.' you thumb the little pouch at your waist, giving it a little more thought, and you think 'hell, what's the worst thing that can happen?' (worst idea of ur life )
(play if hanahaki was real (only if u want) )
you decide to push forward and hand it to him anyway, and you clear your throat.
"um, Ao'nung?" you ask, hesitantly
he hums in response
"here" you say, handing him the necklace. You finished it earlier in the day, and so it's quite good timing you think.
"what's this for?" He takes it from your hands and inspects the beads.
"well, it was kind of a token of appreciation, but at the same time, it's a way of me telling you i like you. hopefully you like me too?" you say, with bated breath for his response.
he doesn't respond immediately, but your heart in your chest is thumping wildly, thoughts rushing through your head, your tail swishing anxiously from side to side.
you're praying that everything you thought could mean that he liked you too, was actually real, and not something you've imagined all this time, so lost inside your daydream, that you confused reality with fiction.
finally, he looks back up at you, your heart soaring, before you finally process the look on his face. Eyebrows pinched tight, his lips in a thin line, and he speaks, he finally speaks.
"is there something wrong with you? what would make you think that i liked you too, that i wish to be your mate? you, a outsider in your own skin? someone who couldn't even swim? a demon child?" he smiles cruelly, and you feel tears prick at your eyes. You don't know why he's being so mean, couldn't he just have said that he didn't feel the same?
with those words, he throws the necklace you spent countless hours on for him, on the ground, stepping on it violently, crushing it with his feet.
with that, you can feel your heart shatter, and you feel a scream building up in your throat. You don't want to give him the satisfaction of seeing you cry, so you whistle, calling for avarin, your toruk. She was always following you, to make sure you were okay. she instantly swooped down, and you jumped onto her back, flying away.
'faster' you urge her, wishing to get away as fast as you can. she listens, and with a flap of her powerful wings, you fly through the air.
unbeknownst to you, ao'nung watches you fly away with a sad look in his eyes, hating that he had to do that, for the sake of his clan.
once the island is out of your sight, you let out the most guttural scream you've ever heard into the sky. Tears are streaming down your face, but there's nothing you can do.
'what did i tell you?' another small part of you says 'he'd never like you. you're a demon child, remember? half avatar.' you know to never listen to that voice. that is the voice that was made to keep people humble, to destroy them. thinking of it would only weaken you, you reminded yourself.
everything onwards passed on in a blur, suddenly you were back in your marui pod, your brothers standing around you, asking you questions that you couldn't quite hear.
at this moment, the story of soulmates came rushing back to you, as you walked further into your pod, thinking; 'i don't have a soulmate, do i?'
unknown to you, your brothers throw each other worried looks, especially when you don't respond, or even lean down to pet Ta'heyla when you see her.
"y/n?" they say, neteyam and lo'ak asking after you. this time, you finally hear them
"i'm fine" you respond, and everyone knows you're lying. Lo'ak immediately knows what happened, especially from the way you're walking, somehow. Something about younger brothers.
he runs to T'sireya, who immediately searches for her brother. he's nowhere to be found, but hours later, when you're curled up in your hammock facing away from everyone else, refusing to eat, he finally comes back.
she yells and yells at him "what is wrong with you! you hurt Y/N, why'd you lead her on like that?" , he doesn't even try to argue back, the only thought running in his head, 'i wish it didn't have to be this way.'

Neteyam told you and you didn't listen. You allowed yourself to be blindsided by the nice things Ao’nung did for you to forget how much of an ass he was when you and your family first stepped foot seeking shelter that you didn’t even see what was going on when you weren’t around.
You clutch onto the necklace that lay still on your neck, it was the first gift Ao’nung had given you after you decided to give him a chance.
“A beautiful necklace for a sevin girl like you.” He had said and it made you swoon but now the words felt like they were laced with a deadly poison infecting your heart that was hurting the most as you witnessed Ao’nung making fun of your younger sister’s, Kiri, five fingers.
The same five fingers you had and it infuriated you even more.
Lo’ak who was right next to you was about to step in but you put your arm out in front of him silently telling him to stay in his place.
You didn’t know what you were going to do or what you were going to say but your feet started to carry you toward them.
“He asked if you’re a freak!” One of his friends had repeated, Kiri was still unphased but you were seething with anger. “No” Kiri softly said but Ao’nung just scoffed.
“Are you sure, I mean you’re not even real Na’vi” He snickers as he tries to reach for Kiri’s hand but before he can, you push him with all your strength making him stumble onto his friend. “What the-“ As soon as he saw your angry face, he knew he fucked up big time.
He puts up his hands in surrender. “This is not what it looks like.” Kiri makes her way over to you putting a hand on your shoulder knowing how much you’re hurting inside.
“Then tell me what it looked like 'cause it’s pretty clear you were making fun of my little sister!” You yell at him, stepping towards him as he steps back.
“I was just joking-“ you interrupted him with a hiss filled with hatred, his ears pinned flat to his head as his tail slowly dropped sadly.
“You lied to me! You promised me, you would treat my siblings with respect,” you fight back the tears not wanting them to fall down in front of him.
If you break down just one bit, it’d be so hard to fight yourself from running into his arms which became your safe haven.
“I trusted you!” You push him again. “I was a fool to think that a skxawng like you could ever change.” His eyes widen with fear, “Oeyä tiyawn, what are you saying?” He tries to take your hand but you step back and look into his eyes that were filled with tears.
“I’m saying we’re over,” you take off the necklace still fighting back the tears as you place it in his hand which was frozen in place.
“No, you can’t, we’re meant to be together.” He protests, gripping tightly on the necklace.
“I can’t be with someone who would find joy in making fun of my family, different features or not, we’re ‘real na’vi’” you recalled one of his words which still stung as you kept going over the many memories you both made with each other.
“Tiyawn, I didn’t mean any of it, please don’t do this.” His voice cracked as tears rolled down his face. The sight just made you even angrier than you already were, how dare he cry when he was the one in the wrong.
You let out a small laugh causing him to look at you with confusion, “You really are a skxawng you know that?” He opens his mouth to talk but you immediately hissed and his mouth shut quickly.
“When you call her a freak, you’re calling me a freak as well!” You yelled as you pushed him again.
You raise your five fingers at him. “I have five fingers which you held onto and said you loved, so why is it different with me, huh?” You held back a sob that threatened to escape your mouth.
“I must be some fucking fantastic freak you’ve ever seen.” You yell as you meet his teary gaze that held nothing but fear and regret. You point to him and back to you.
“Whatever we had is over, I don’t ever want to see you again.” With that being said, you turn to walk away but before you can take a step, his hand grips your wrist trying to plead with you to give him one more chance but you snatch your hand away from him and walk in the direction of your marui with Kiri walking close to you.
Ao’nung tries to go after you but Lo’ak stops him, quietly telling him to go the other way, trying to restrain himself from punching him right then and there.
The walk back to your marui was silent as you replayed everything in your mind, tears finally allowed to fill your eyes but never fell because you didn’t want Lo’ak and Kiri to see you like this but you failed to cause once you stepped foot in the marui and saw Neteyam, your lip trembled as the tears rolled down your face, you make your way over to him and he immediately embraces you in a hug as you let it all out.
“Tsmukan, you were right, you’re always right.” You cried as he held you close as Lo’ak and Kiri patted your back letting you know they were here for you.
As you wept, no one said anything, just comforted you til you quieted down. Neteyam couldn’t wait till he see Ao’nung so he can punch him for making the one thing he didn’t want to come true happen.

"𝐈 am speechless, Ao'nung. You're for real. You've always been a complete idiot, but now I am shocked!" I yelled at him.
Tumblr media
Ao'nung looked as if he didn't care that I told him he was an idiot. “You shouldn't be friends with them, y/n. They're not like us!"
"And who are you to decide about that?"
"Your friend, y/n!"
"Ao'nung, you're a kid. I don't care that you're the son of a clan ruler, but to me, you're a child." I splashed in his face and walked away with that. He was still shouting after me, but I didn't care anymore.
I sat down on the beach, the water washed my feet. I felt so useless.
"Are you okay?" Neteyam, my new friend, sat next to me.
"Yes, I'll be fine."
"I heard your argument with Ao'nung," he touched my shoulder. "I appreciate you that you stood for us, but.."
"But what? He has no right to behave like this."
"Yes. But he's your friend. And he's the son of Tonowari."
"I. Don't. Care."
“I think he's jealous, y/n. That you found new friends."
I looked at Neteyam.
"Oh, Neteyam, he's idiot. But I still like him. Ugh." I sighed and rested my head on his shoulder.
╭┈─ ◌ೄ◌ྀ ˊˎ I was just treating Ao'nung's wound. He fought with Lo'ak again. I didn't want to heal him, but I was the daughter of healers.
Ao'nung looked with his blue eyes at me. I looked away. I've always had a soft spot for them.
“I'm sorry, y/n. But it's too much for me"
"We all have our problems. That's no reason to treat others like that, Ao'nung."
"I'm engaged, y/n," he said OUT OF NOWHERE and my heart stopped beating for a second, but I didn't say anything.
"And I don't want to be. I don't want my parents to rule my life."
"They mean well."
"I know. But I don't want to."
...
"Ao'nung, I'm sure they picked a good girl for you."
Ao'nung sighed.
I disinfected his wound and looked at him. "Look, you still have a lot of time. A lot can happen until then. Don't worry about it yet and enjoy your youth while you can, okay?"
He touched my hand. "All right. I'll try. Thank you."
╭┈─ ◌ೄ◌ྀ ˊˎ "You don't like him, you love him, don't you?" Neteyam came to me again. Lately, we have become even closer.
"What? No!" I screamed.
“y/n, you didn't even ask who I meant,” he smirked.
"Neteyam, that's bullshit. And he's engaged."
He stopped smiling. "Really? I am sorry."
"It's OK." I smiled weakly.
"Ao'nung is a fool if he doesn't see what a wonderful girl he has in front of him." Neteyam hugged me and I sighed.
Why did I just like him? Why couldn't I like Neteyam for example? Love sucks.
╭┈─ ◌ೄ◌ྀ ˊˎ Tears were streaming down my cheeks. Neteyam! I screamed in my mind. But no one answered me.
Tsireya looked at me. She was also crying. Everyone was crying. Especially Sully's.
Neteyam left for Eywa. My faithful friend left me.
After the ceremony, I went to our place as if dead, without a soul. Where we talked with Neteyam. I sat down and dipped my feet in the water.
"I'm sorry, y/n."
"Why are you following me?" I snapped at Ao'nung.
"Look, I'm sorry too, okay?"
"Why, why? He didn't deserve it," I fell to the ground and Ao'nung hugged me.
He stroked my back. "You have me,"
I immediately went away from him. I looked at him angrily. "I don't want you, I want Neteyam!"
".... You. You loved him?" he looked at me in shock.
I laughed. "I loved. As a friend! Because I love you, you stupid!" I screamed and wanted to leave.
"What... what did you just say?" he held my hand.
"Ah, Ao'nung. Let me go, okay? I need to be alone."
╭┈─ ◌ೄ◌ྀ ˊˎ In the end, I left the clan. My family and I went away, to another family. I welcomed the new change. This place brought me a lot of pain. And most of all, I didn't want to be with Ao'nung. I didn't want to see him become the leader of a clan with another woman by his side.
The years passed. I don't know how many years it could have been. Seven? Eight? But one thing was certain, I was no longer a child. I have grown into a young woman. The healer. In this village, they adored me, appreciated my help, and wanted to engage me with the leader's son. The leader's son again. I did not want that. I wanted to be alone.
I liked to travel. My parents were always worried about me, but they always let me go.
I missed Neteyam. Very much.
"No way! I'm not going back there!" I shouted at my father.
"You have to. They need a healer!"
"Then let them find someone else."
Mom came to me. "Daughter. Be strong and go there. You're not like that. You like to help,"
I sat down desperately. "And what about this village? Doesn't it need a healer too?"
“We're healers too, y/n. Please go there.” Dad gave me a desperate look.
They wanted me to go to the clan where Neteyam died.
I sighed desperately, but what was I supposed to do?
"It's been many years, daughter. Things have changed."
╭┈─ ◌ೄ◌ྀ ˊˎ Things have changed, but the water hasn't. It was still the same. Transparent and crystal as the eyes of the one I didn't want to see.
We were just children. I should forget about that. I bet he forgot about me.
I was walking along the beach where Neteyam and I were talking. It was quiet here.
The sun was slowly rising, and so were the people. I came here early in the morning because I didn't want to arrive in style. I wanted to come quietly.
I walked past the houses, to the house of Tonowari and Ronal. I haven't seen them for a long time. I was looking forward to them.
"Hey. They said you were looking for a healer," I said to the children who curiously clustered around me when I stopped.
A figure stood far away. I couldn't believe it. It was...?
The figure was approaching.
My Eywa.
He changed.
He was taller, and muscular, with broad shoulders, tattooed, and his face was tattooed too. His hair was not in a bun, but loose. He looked so good. Too good. He had a cloak around his shoulders. He wasn't a teenager anymore.
"Ao'nung," I said as I looked into his face. I had to tilt my head back.
He looked at me. Did I change too? I wondered. Probably yes. A little bit. My face was tattoed and my body probably changed too. But I wasn't changed as much as him.
He bared his teeth at me. “y/n.” And then he hugged me.
I hugged him back. It was a strong hug.
The children around us giggled happily.
"You've changed," I told him.
"You've changed too, you're not a child anymore"
I giggled. "No."
We looked at each other like crazy and examined each other.
"I should probably take you to see my mother," he said.
"Yes.."
╭┈─ ◌ೄ◌ྀ ˊˎ A few days passed. I was in the forest gathering herbs when I felt Ao'nung's presence.
"Do you need help?" he asked.
"Oh no, but thank you"
He knelt and looked into my eyes. His presence made me nervous.
" I thank you. That you came."
"Oh, Ao'nung. You don't have to be so formal. After all, we were friends,"
"And we're not anymore?" he asked.
I sighed. "I don't know, Ao'nung. Many things have changed. You're engaged," I reminded him.
"I am not anymore."
I looked at him. "What?"
"I was, but... She loves someone else."
"Oh. That's kind of you to let her go like that,"
"It's nothing. I love someone else too."
Me?
"Ao'nung."
"y/n."
We looked at each other. I smiled nervously and tucked a blue flower behind his ear. "It suits you," and I wanted to run away. I didn't know how to react.
But Ao'nung wouldn't let me go. "Please don't run anymore."
He held my jaw and kissed my eyes, cheeks, and chin. And then on the lips.
I put my arms around his shoulders and kissed him too. I don't know how long we were kissing, but it was beautiful. We didn't want to stop.
"Ao'nung. Why did it take us so long?" I sighed. "Why only now?"
He poked my nose. "Good things are worth waiting for. We may have changed, but we are still the same inside. I'm still the idiot you called me. And you're still the same girl. I love you.'
I happily poked him in the stomach. "I love you, my idiot."
"y/n!"

jake sully
this man was a human in his previous life, he knows what the fuck he was doing
when you got your period in the middle of work, jake (with his strong avatar senses) caught a scent of you
he asked norm where they keep women's pads and norm pointed to where they were
he got some pads and getting a few more stuff that you liked
some chocolate bar, a venti cup of coffee/juice/tea, and a heating pad
you were surprised when he stood beside you with said stuff in his hands
then you finally got the idea
oooooooohhhhh… is it that time already?
yes, baby girl. but don’t worry, i’ll help you
he goes with you until you reach the lady's comfort room
he gives you the pads and tells you to holler for him if you need anything else
waits for you while you do your thing
younger!jake would rock back and forth on his feet and bite off the skin of his lips (a habit i canon him of having) while he waited by the door
older!jake would go to get the stuff he forgot if he forgets and comes back before you knew he even left
once you were done, he suggests you take a rest now before the cramps start
you told norm this and being the great friend he was, he lets you go rest
jake would be there for you like your personal cocoon
he would massage you abdomen, lower back, head, or wherever you felt pain in
would get you whatever that is you need
just honestly the best in the bunch since he knew what human women go through
Tumblr media
neteyam sully
you yo daddy’s son !!!11!1!!
but for real, he’s like a mini jake with neytiri’s face and her nurturing aura
he learned how to care for human girls because of his dad
literally cried when you first got your period since he thought you were dying
but jake reassures him it’s a normal thing human girls go through (since na’vi girls and women don’t go through this | i agree with the fanon that na’vi women don’t get periods)
would learn basic human anatomy just so he understands what was happening during your periods
kinda scared because of the side effects of periods
would do anything and everything just for you to be comfortable during your monthly bleeds
since na’vi bodies were a lot warmer, he uses his hands as heating pads to put over your abdomen
would purr when you’re on his chest as he massages your lower back
sings his songcord to you to lull you to sleep
kisses are a must with this man
would litter you with kisses to make you smile and feel better
he just loves you :ccc
Tumblr media
lo’ak sully
obviously, like neteyam, he knows that human girls get their period
he’s similar to neteyam but a bit different in his approach to periods
he didn’t really know what he was supposed to do at first
like, should he massage you or should he not because it might worsen your pain
do you like chips or chocolate more?
what pussy size you got because there are so many pad sizes—
tAMPONS ARE A THING WHAT—
lowkey scared of that thing and why tf does it go in?!>!?!
still, his effort counts really
it’s the thought that counts
he still helps you around (even with the smallest thing like grabbing a cup of water)
would follow your commands especially when the pain is unbearable and you need assistance
he would stay with you in your room even when you sleep just in case you wake up and need help (even if you told him it’s okay to go home and rest. he insists on staying)
would go to norm and ask for extra gas air when he runs out of it
would bring you some pandora fruits because weirdly, you crave them more than the regular food you eat
would treat you greatly 1000/10
Tumblr media
tonowari
like his son, he didn’t know what periods are so he asks his friend jake about it
upon learning what they were, he immediately goes into his ‘teddy bear’ mode
he would be cuddly as fuck
like  c u d d l y  cuddly
a cuddle bug for sure
he would always bring you fresh food to eat
would help around your home despite being a busy man himself
would treat you as if you were a porcelain doll
would weave you a reusable period underwear (with the help of ronal) so you can just clean them and reuse them
would do your laundry and wouldn’t be bothered by the blood stains at all
when you need him (especially when you’re a lot emotional), he would stay with you until you feel better
doesn’t matter if you fell asleep. he will do his duties once you wake up and say that you’re feeling better
only then he would be comfortable enough to leave to tend to his duties
would ask tsireya and ronal to look after you especially when he’s a lot busier and can’t go to you physically
overall like my man jake but a lot more domestic
would recommend to everyone
Tumblr media
ao’nung
he didn’t understand what a period is and why you got them because he didn’t care at first
you’re a sky person, the cause of distruction
but you were different (or whatever jake sully and his kids say)
but the more time he spent with you, he must at least learn what you go through, being your period
it was weird that you had to go through this every month until you become old
like, his mom and sister never got these so why were your kind cursed with them?
would ask jake or his kids what he can do to help you out
you stayed in a makeshift house with regular oxygen so you can eat without having the stupid mask on
ao’nung literally didn’t like the mask he has to breathe pandora air in but after one time that he didn’t use them, he didn’t like the feeling so he uses them religiously when he’s with you
he would bring you gifts and meals he caught so you don’t feel too isolated when you don’t leave your home
would ask you constantly what you were feeling and if you feel uncomfortable at every moment of the day
are you okay? does you abdomen hur—
i’m fine ao’nung!!
would still ask for confirmation if you’re really really okay
would carry you every time you leave your house (even if you went out to walk and stretch your legs)
shy with physical affection (hugs, kisses) so the most he can do is carry you
call it his love language in a way
Tumblr media
rotxo
he was absolutely lost when he sees you bleeding. like neteyam, he thought you were dying
he thought he would never see you again
but when you explained that human women bleeding was normal, he was like:
dude, that must suck so bad
it does, rotxo, it does
but still, he wants to help you out the best way he can
like the other metkayina men here, he would bring you food to eat and bring little trinkets to make you feel better
since metkayina bodies were a lot cooler than omatikaya bodies but still warmer than human bodies, he does his best to warm you up
he stays with you as much as he can just so he can help you
craving for a certain fruit? he’ll get it for you
need a soothing cream from ronal? he will get it for you
you feel tired? he can go into your home, use the stupid-looking gas mask to breathe and stay with you longer, and keep you company
he’s just a sweetheart man give him compliments pls

Ao'nung x Omatikaya!Sully!reader
Summary: Ao'nung is tasked with helping the reader learn to ride ilu, but he's a bit too harsh for Y/N's liking.
Prompt: "Why would I help someone like you?"
Genre: Slight angst? not really - more Ao'nung being an ass
Word count: 1.6k
Tumblr media
Ao'nung glared from afar, staying out of sight as he watched the group of outsiders trying to master the art of ilu riding. Watching them tumble off of the backs of their mounts repeatedly amused him somewhat, in fact, he'd even find it funny - if he wasn't tasked with the begrudging role of teaching them the Metkayina ways. His friends snickered around him as Lo'ak fell especially hard into the water, although this time he didn't laugh. His eyes were focused on a particular member of the group, one of the girls who seemed to hang back in comparison to her bolder siblings. Y/N. You never seemed to act as brash as the others, preferring to keep to yourself, although he occasionally caught sight of the hushed conversations that you held with Neteyam.
It had become apparent over the few weeks that you had been training that you were not keeping up as well as your other siblings. Breathing had taken you nearly twice as long to understand, and you could still only sit on your ilu if you had assistance. And you weren’t the only one who knew it. When you and your siblings entered your marui pod in the evening, you were all surprised to see the chief, Tonowari, crouched beside your father, seemingly deep in conversation. However, this discussion was quickly finished upon your arrival.
“Y/N, sit.” Tonowari’s voice was kind yet demanding, he was a chief after all, and this was his order. You cautiously crouched down beside the two men, hesitantly glancing between your father and the chief.
“Sir?” Jake seemed to sigh as your confused voice reached him.
“You have been struggling to learn the new ways, right Y/N?” you sheepishly nodded back at your father. “The chief has suggested that you train on a more… personal level,” you waited for your father to finish, but he seemed to have problems ending his sentence. It was clear he didn’t like this suggestion either.
Tonowari smoothly interjected with an explanation for you. “Ao’nung is clearly having some… trouble connecting with the boys,” you stared at him expectantly, if he was referring to the multiple fights they had gotten into; then trouble was putting it lightly. “I think that he would have an easier time connecting with you, alone, than he would with your family as a group.” You stared at the tall man as incredulously as you dared to, although you knew better than to reply. You were not being asked, you were being told.
You quietly nodded at his explanation, it certainly made sense. But why did it have to be him?
“Very well,” Tonowari smiled warmly at you, “I shall have Ao’nung meet you tomorrow morning.”
The next morning you found yourself nervous as you tentatively made your way to the shallows. You had barely spoken to Ao’nung, but from what you had seen he wasn’t the most patient teacher. You longingly found yourself looking over at your siblings as they splashed about on their ilu together with Tsireya, chuckling quietly at how Neteyam and Lo’ak tried to shove one another off their mounts.
“Is something funny?” An icy voice behind you caused you to jump. You found yourself face to face with a piercing set of teal eyes as you turned to the voice’s owner who was standing behind you, ilu in hand. He was much taller up close, broader too. You found yourself wondering how, the considerably scrawnier, Lo’ak had faced up to him without being intimidated. The staring contest between you both seemed to last an eternity before you remembered that he’d asked a question.
“Lo’ak… he fell off.” You stammered out a response, expecting maybe a chuckle on the common ground of bullying your younger brother. Instead his frown seemed to deepen.
“So? You’ve fallen off a lot more.” His tone was critical. Clearly, you weren’t the only one unhappy with this arrangement. “Hurry up and get on,” he scowled at you. “I have better things to do.”
Exasperation flooded through your body as you made contact with the water again, you had been at this for hours, the others had long left the water. And yet Ao’nung insisted you get back on the ilu. Despite the fact that he was supposed to be helping you, he hadn’t actually been much help at all. He had just silently watched. Eventually, after many attempts and an aching body you snapped.
“Are you actually going to give me any advice, or are you just going to stand there laughing at me?”
Ao’nung looked you up and down with a smirk. “And why would I help someone like you? You’re a forest freak, you’re not supposed to be here - you should just go back home.” you felt yourself flush with anger and embarrassment. Of course he didn’t want to help you, this was all just a big joke for him. A joke at your expense.
“If you want me to go back home then you should just leave me alone!” Surprise flickered across his face at your demeanour change, though that was quickly followed by a sigh and a shake of the head as he began to wade out of the shallows that you had been practising in.
Frustrated, you smacked the water. It took you a few minutes to calm down, the images of your other family members succeeding were running through your head, making you feel even worse. But then, a thought struck you. Your father had used a belt to attempt to ride the skimwing, maybe something like that would help you?
You ran up towards the pods, quickly finding some rope that the other tribes people had left out from their weaving. When you returned to your ilu you fastened it around the handle and your hand, suddenly feeling a lot more confident with the support in place. This confidence did not last long though.Despite the fact that you could stay in the saddle now, the ilu was uncontrollable - dragging you through waters at a blinding pace, desperately weaving up and down in the water like a loose hose. Eventually, you felt your hand slipping from both the ilu and the rope, and you were left to fend for yourself. Treading water and trying desperately to recover your breath, you noticed a rock in the distance; some support was better than none while you recovered, right?
Ao’nung found himself worrying, it had been over an hour and you had not come back yet. As he wandered down the beach, squinting across the water for your form, he noticed an abandoned ilu - still saddled and with rope drifting from its handle. Despite his earlier words, he felt a drop in his stomach at the realisation that you were nowhere to be seen. He hadn’t really meant for you to disappear, and now he needed to find you before both sets of parents killed him.
He called for his own ilu, and quickly set to scouring the deeper waters where your ilu was floating around. It seemed to understand his confusion and began swimming out towards a lump of rocks in the deeper waters. He felt his mouth go dry as he realised the ilu was leading him outside of the reef. The outer reefs were no place to be frolicking about, especially for an inexperienced rider like you. He needed to find you, and quickly.
You found yourself entranced as you stared under the water. The rock you had clung to kept you afloat, allowing you to dunk your head under the water and watch the fish swimming by. It was relatively peaceful, until it wasn’t. You noticed a group of fish darting across your view, and you soon saw why as the toothy face of a monstrous fish swam into view. Although it was terrifying, it hadn’t noticed you, and you found your curiosity getting the better of you as you watched it following small groups of fish around. It wasn’t particularly committed to hunting, in fact, it seemed relatively calm as it started to swim back off into the distance.
Even though the danger had passed, you still felt yourself jump when a splash sounded next to you in the waters. You were even more surprised when you came face-to-face with an ilu, it was only after you calmed that you saw Ao’nung’s head peering round the side of the beast’s neck.
“Its beautiful isn’t it?” you jerked your head out towards the open waters. Ao’nung hummed lowly in response.
“It’s an akula, they’re very dangerous.” You laughed at his tentative expression as he watched the bulky form of the fish swim out of view.
“Aren’t all beautiful things?” His ears flicked in response, and when he turned back to you there seemed to be a new resolve in his eyes. It was the first time he had seen you smile.
You clung to Ao’nungs muscled back as he directed his ilu into the shallows to meet your siblings. Immediately they were on you, clamouring to ask about your whereabouts and why you were riding in the deeper reefs with Ao’nung. The boy seemed to freeze up up your siblings’ questioning, unable to respond with a proper lie. “I was struggling to get my balance, so Ao’nung let me ride with him until I could figure it out.” the lie rolled easily off your tongue, and your siblings seemed satisfied for now. As you made your way back towards the marui pods he fell into place beside you.
“You should be more careful next time.” you snorted at his chastising.
“It’s not my fault you left me.”
“Yeah, well,” he paused to pull you to a stop. “I won’t be doing that again, I promise.”

Humans living with the Metkayina clan headcannons
Helloooooooo everyone! so I made a pole almost a week ago, and this is the winner! Sorry it took me a bit longer cause as I was seeing this being the lead winner, I had to thing of what would fit in the pandora world. So here is what I made! And as usual, if you like what you see and wish to use it for a fic or something of sort, you have my full permission but please do credit me. Any who, lets get on with it!
--------------------------------
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First an foremost, I believe when creating their base on the island, water would be the main source for everything just like for the reef na'vi.
By source, I mean using water as the main power source for the base to be functioning, better than mining the earth and flora.
Their base I say would try to mimic or have it look similar to the home pods the metkayina have. More clear windows to let the light in, and not be so clunked and enclosed like the forest base.
The humans be living the same diet if not somewhat similar to the metkayina diet. Such as fish, herbs, and plants that are edible.
Swimming being the importance for the humans, even with their mask making it better to swim longer. Swim to do their part of the clan such as hunting, gathering, or making.
the communal dinners are the humans favorite part of the day, to sit and chat with the reef na'vi and become good friends.
Sign language is the best language to communicate between the na'vi and humans. Since I can guess speaking it is trickier than doing the sign language. Of course the humans would do their best to speak the language.
I think the Ilu would still approach the humans, obviously not being able to connect together but the ilu looks very friendly that is might not see humans as a threat and would approach them.
There for, I think the humans can ride the ilu's like the na'vi can, but have to hold on much tighter. Skimwing? Nope.
But the tulkun? perhaps. Still using the sign language to speak, the humans can communicate with the tulkun, while stilling trying to understand the sounds and language the tulkun speaks.
The tulkun themselves would be wary but have keen interest on the humans, maybe if one is lucky, a human and a tulkun becoming spirit siblings.
Tattoos. Oh yes. Aside from living like the reef na'vi and liveing among them. Tattoos would definitely be what ties the humans and na'vi together.
When bodning together, I feel as though the humans would tell their sea stories from Earth, like pirates', ocean gods and goddesses, sea creatures similar to the pandora sea.
The reef children would definitely seek the humans out, often go the base and bother them until they have the undividing attention.
The children would more than often raid the base and mess with the humans, wanting to see what they are doing and demand to play with them. While it be a tiny bit annoying, the humans would happily oblige and play with the na'vi children
The parents would be happy to see that their children arent alone and are being entertained while they go attend their duties.
No doubt love would bloom between a reef na'vi and a human, making the two beings become one as a whole.
If it wasnt for the war, I see the metkayina and other reef clans be more welcoming and humble to the humans if given the chance. Create friendships and special bonds between the two. Better than the forest na'vi.

that is all for today! I hoped you liked it! tell me what you guys think. If you are interested, I have more headcanons. Check them out if ya want!

Masterlist
It was obvious that you and Ao’nung were head over heels for one another. Ever since you had arrived in Awa’atlu, Ao’nung did not keep his eyes off you, and you cannot keep your eyes of him. Yes, some times you’d bump heads but that was proof that you and him were made for one another. Then the courting rituals began. You both had done your courting rituals based on your cultures.
Since the Omaticaya are of hunters and warriors, you were a good hunter, so one afternoon after finishing your chores, you had gone hunting. You were gone for a while in the ocean, trying to find the biggest fish you could give it to Ao’nung. You wanted to show to Ao’nung that you were worth being his mate by your hunting skills. Once you had returned, you began to cook your catch. Your mother and father thought you went to get them food, but you told them it was for Ao’nung. When you were finished cooking the fish, you went to the Olo'eyktan and  Tsahìk ‘s Marui to see Ao’nung.
When you got there, you greeted the family that had been in the Marui. “What bring you here?” Tonowari asked, seeing the cooked fish in your arms. “I brought this for Ao’nung, I hunted it this afternoon and I cooked it” you said going over and placed the fish in front of him, missing the glare he was sending the fish. “I hope you like it” you said looking at Ao’nung who had a forced smile. “Thank you Y/n, I really appreciate the gesture” he said, then you bid everyone goodbye then left. The whole time Ao’nung kept glaring at the fish, he felt offended by this. He felt like you were saying that he isn’t a good provider. After glaring at the fish, he just ate because he didn’t want it to go to waste and it must have taken you forever to cook.
After that experience, Ao’nung had forgotten about the whole ordeal. He had began to make you an anklet, the Metkayina believed in gift given, specially if it was handcrafted gifts. The anklet was being of pearls, but not just any pearls. Ao’nung spend most of his morning looking for the finest pearls, he had manage to find pink pearls, they were as pretty as you. He worked on the anklet that whole afternoon, when he was done, he went out to find you.
You were at the beach just hanging with your ilu, Ao’nung got a bit nervous since he didn’t know how you’d react. He approached you “hey y/n” he caught your attention, you turn to look at him while your ilu was snuggling against your cheek. “Hey Ao’nung” you gave him a small smile and got up from the sand, seeing his cheeks turn a bright lilac. “I.... I made you something..” he said now shyly handing you the anklet. You looked down and saw the pink colored anklet. You took it from his hands to look at it better “for me?” you asked, seeing how pretty it was. “Well yeah...” Ao’nung said looking at you, seeing your face of displeasure. “Do you not like it?” he asked, now feeling like he had been punched in the gut.
“I-I...” You couldn’t speak, you had been to stun by this, his gift. This felt as if he only wanted you because you were just pretty to look at, and have. You wanted to yell at him, this felt as if he wanted you to just sit and look pretty, but you did not want to be rude. So you forced a smile. “Thank you, I love it... it’s.... pretty” you said holding the Anklet tightly, still a bit mad at Ao’nung. After a little awkward silence you got on your ilu and took off, maybe to talk to Tsieya. Ao’nung had done the same, he left to go find your brothers, maybe he could tell him some stuff.
“An Anklet! A goddamn anklet he gives me! First he hates the fact that I caught and cooked him a whole fish, that was by the way hard to catch! He just wants me to sit and look pretty!” you had been ranting to Tsireya, who you had met up with her on those small pools of water where the group normally hung out. Tsireya could only smile, it was obvious that your courting rituals were different. “It’s not that Y/n, he was actually courting you our way” she said as you looked at her shocked “courting?” you said, making her nodded “yes, our way is of gift giving, handmade gift have more meaning.” She said, now you felt stupid, he was courting you, and you had thought he only wanted you as a trophy mate. “Oh god I’m so stupid” you said as you felt your face heat up in embarrassment. Tsireya rubbed your back comfortingly. “It’s okay, you didn’t know” she said holding in a laugh.
“It felt like spear to my heart! She brought a big fish that she cooked, which was by the way great but does she think I’m not a good provider!? Then I gave her an anklet that I worked so hard to make! Those pink pearls weren’t easy to find!” Ao’nung had been talking with Neteyam and Lo’ak the whole story, Lo’ak had been trying so hard not to laugh by this, but then Neteyam chimed in “she didn’t mean it as an offence bro, she was courting you by gifting you the finest meat from her hunt” he said, making Ao’nung look at him. “What?” he said, now confused “yes, she was courting you. Since we’re known for hunting, part of the courting ritual is to give the one you want a piece of the finest meat. She hunted and cooked it herself.” Lo’ak said between laughs. “So... she wasn’t trying to offend me?” Ao’nung asked, both your brothers nodded. Now he felt like a fool. “Don’t worry bro, we’ll help you both out” Lo’ak said patting Ao’nung’s back.
That sunset, you and Ao’nung were basically pushed by each other’s siblings to talk alone at the beach. You had been waiting for Ao’nung, still feeling embarrassed, you were trying to come up with an apology, but then Ao’nung had approached you. You were both face to face “I’m sorry.... I didn’t know about your whole courting stuff” you said looking down, feeling your face heat up.
Ao’nung noticed you wearing the pink anklet, he chuckled at your weird human vocabulary. “It’s fine, I’m also sorry, I didn’t know either” he said looking up at you. “I see that you like my gift?” he asked, seeing that your face was now purple. “Yeah I did... it is really pretty, did you like the fish?” you asked with a small smile. “Yeah, it was good. I could get use to your cooking” Ao’nung said in a teasing manner, making you laugh.  “So... do you still want to court one another?” you asked a bit shyly. “Did you really think I’d let you off that easily?” Ao’nung said making you laughed “I had a feeling you weren’t” you admitted. Ao’nung then reached to get a hold of your hand, which you allowed him to get a hold of. “We could watch the sunset” you suggested as you locked eyes with one another, and Ao’nung spoke “I’d like that”
