austin and me || part two
summary: once your first trimester is up, you and austin are finally ready to start sharing your news. you and austin throw a dinner party with all your closest friends and family members.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“well, everything is looking great! your baby appears healthy, you’re doing well, and your labwork looks amazing. this officially marks the end of your first, and the beginning of your second trimester.” your doctor said to you, handing you your newest ultrasound photo. you and austin marveled at the image in your hands, still over the moon that you were having a baby. you thanked your doctor, collected your paperwork, and you and austin made your way home.
“ugh, im so tired.” you yawned, sinking into the couch. austin sat next to you, handing you a glass of water.
“how are you feeling otherwise?” he asked.
“good, mostly. i haven't had too many symptoms. im not looking forward to the back and feet pain once baby starts growing.” you said, placing your hand on your stomach. "so," you smiled up at him. “are we ready to share the news?” you asked him.
“i am if you are.” he said, smiling down at you. you nodded at him, reaching up to press a kiss to his lips.
over the next week or so, you and austin had planned a beautiful dinner party, inviting some of the most important people in your life. as you were getting ready, austin was already in host mode, setting up the most perfect layout of all the food you had.
you dressed in a loose fitting maxi dress, hiding your bump as well as you could. you didn’t want people seeing your belly until you announced the news. once you were dressed, you met with austin back in the living room as he finished setting out the cutlery and plates.
as your guests began arriving, you catered to them well, offering drinks and snacks until it was time for dinner. the night ended up being perfect, everyone was having a wonderful time with each other. you stood back in the kitchen, taking it all in. baz luhrmann and his wife catherine, riley keough, her husband ben, and their daughter, lisa marie’s twins harper and finley, priscilla presley, jerry schilling, austin’s sister ashley and her husband, your family. these people meant the world to you, and you couldn’t wait to let them in on your secret.
once dinner was served, you all moved to the dining room table. conversation quickly ensued as everyone began eating.  after your meal, you served dessert, and you and austin took the opportunity to finally share your news.
“i’d like to say a few words,” austin began as everyone’s attention fell on him. “i just want to thank everyone for spending the evening with y/n and i. along with our own families, everyone else has become such huge parts of our lives, you’re all family members at this point. you all mean so much to us, and it brings us great pleasure to be able to share some special news with you all.” austin turned to you and smiled. you stood from the table, flattening your dress over your stomach, revealing your bump.
“im pregnant!” you cheered, additional cheers erupting from the table around you. everyone was so excited with your news, they all immediately began showering you and austin with hugs and kisses. you and austin were at the head of the table, and everyone had formed sort of a line to speak with you both.
“oh, honey, im so happy for you!” riley said to you, pulling you into a hug. “you’re going to be a wonderful momma.”
“you’re gonna have to give me all your tips.” you said, laughing with her.
“i’ll be here with whatever you need.” she nodded, hugging you again.
“congratulations y/n!” harper began.
"we’ll be available to babysit whenever you need us.” finley finished, the both of them laughing.
“thank you, both. i know you two are going to be great aunts to our little one.” you said, hugging them.
you turned to austin, who was speaking to baz, and catherine moved to stand next to you.
“congratulations, sweetheart. getting to see you and austin grow into the beautiful couple you’ve become, i feel so lucky that i get to see you grow your family as well.” she said to you.
“thank you so much for everything. you and baz have taken such good care of us these last years, and we feel lucky that you’ve taken us under your wing. we love you and baz so much.” you said hugging her.
“we’re so proud of you both.” she said, pulling away and squeezing your arms.
“i hope you're ready to help me decorate the nursery.” you smiled at her.
"i already have ideas!” she smiled, hugging you again. baz moved to speak with you, expressing the same sentiment that catherine did. during austin’s filming of elvis, the four of you became very close. you spent a lot of time with baz and catherine as they and austin worked on the movie. it meant a lot that they were so proud of you, and it meant a lot to you that you all remained so close once the movie was done.
jerry schilling and austin became practically brothers throughout austin’s journey of discovering elvis. you felt it was as if jerry had his best friend back. they joked around and spoke with each other in the same way that jerry told you that he and elvis used to. you knew that this journey had been heavy for jerry, but you were glad that he had been so welcoming of austin. and you as well. he congratulated you both, and reminisced on memories of elvis and priscilla, when they found out she was pregnant, and when lisa marie was born.
“thank you for sharing. you always have the best stories.” you said, smiling up at him.
“thank you for allowing me into your lives. you two have become such wonderful friends, and i am so grateful to have new people to share these stories with.” jerry smiled back. he embraced you in a hug, as well as austin, before moving to mingle with other guests.
as everyone shared their congratulations and words of encouragement, people moved back to the living room to let their food digest before leaving, and you continued speaking with everyone as they came up to you. you stood listening while someone was talking to austin, and your gaze wandered to priscilla. she was hanging back from the crowd, still in her chair at the end of the table. it was almost as if she was nervous to speak to you, or anyone. she had zoned out and was staring down at the floor, and you moved over to her, pulling a chair closer into her side.
“cilla? are you okay?” you asked, rubbing her arm.
“hmm? oh yes, i’m fine. i’m just feeling painfully reminiscent." she began. "i remember being surrounded by all the same love when elvis and i announced my pregnancy with lisa marie. he was so excited when i told him he was gonna be a daddy.” she sighed. “i miss him a lot in situations like this.”
“oh, i’m sure you do.” you said softly, continuing to rub her arm. “but i don’t doubt that he’s here with us in moments like this. i like to think of him as sort of a protector over austin. and everyone here. he never truly left us. he’s always been here in memory and in spirit. he loved you so much.” you reassured her. she looked at you with faint tears in her eyes, but she had a soft smile on her face. her glance shifted behind you, and you turned to see austin smiling at the two of you.
“i’m so glad to have met both you and austin. you remind me a lot of elvis and i at that stage in our lives, getting married and starting our family. there were a lot of things that went wrong with us, but we never stopped loving and caring for each other. i know you two will have a better fate than we did, but i can’t help but see the two of us in you two.” she lamented.
“that makes me so happy to hear.” you said quietly, resting your head on her shoulder. she rested her head on yours, patting your thigh.
“you’re going to be a great mom, and austin’s going to be a great dad. you’re gonna have such a cute baby.” she assured you. “and i'll be so excited to meet them.”
“you’ll be the first one i introduce them to.” you laughed, and she giggled along with you.
the rest of the evening was very laxed as everyone was coming down from the excitement of the news. once everyone had left, and the dishes and left overs were put away, you and austin began getting ready for bed. you showered and changed into your pajamas, you walked out of the bathroom to see austin sitting in bed, smiling down at his phone.
“what are you smiling at?” you asked, climbing into bed next to him.
“this group photo that we took. everyone looks so happy.” austin smiled, showing you the picture. everyone had wide smiles, and you could feel through the photo the love and happiness that filled the room.
“tonight was perfect. i'm so glad everyone could come over. it meant a lot getting to share this night with everyone.” you said, handing austin his phone back.
“it was perfect. and im glad that we’re finally able to share our news. i can’t wait to tell the whole world that we’re having a baby.” he said, leaning over to press a kiss to your lips. “i love you so much.”
“i love you more.” you said, kissing him again. you laid down in the pillows as austin moved to your belly. he began talking to your baby, wishing them good night and pressing a kiss to your stomach, just above your belly button. you smiled as he spoke, running your fingers through his hair.
you and austin were already so obsessed with your baby, and you knew that once they were here, you were going to love them a million times harder.

The devastating impacts on reproductive rights and individual lives after the fall of Roe continue apace.
One study showed that as early as five years old, society perceives Black girls as “less innocent” and “more adult-like” than their non-Black counterparts, placing an unfair expectation on them to act more maturely.
The latest high-profile account to detail the gut-wrenching effects arrived in Time this week. The story—”She Wasn’t Able to Get an Abortion. Now She’s a Mom. Soon She’ll Start 7th Grade”—centers on Ashley, a 13-year-old girl from Mississippi who in the fall of 2022, according to her mother, was raped by a stranger in her yard.
The assault resulted in a pregnancy that she was unable to terminate because of the strict abortion bans in Mississippi and its bordering states, each enacted after the overturning of Roe. Ashley’s mother, Regina, told Time that she didn’t have the resources to take her daughter to the nearest clinic hundreds of miles away in Chicago.
This story, recounting Ashley’s trauma and highlighting the many systems that failed her, is an incredibly difficult read. But one line has especially stayed with me:
“One nurse came in and asked Ashley, “What have you been doing?” Regina recalls. That’s when they found out Ashley was pregnant.”
This is the question a nurse chose to ask when confronted with a Black child in clear distress, who had shown up to the emergency room unable to stop vomiting.  Not “What happened to you?” or “Are you okay?”
The nurse reportedly asked a 13-year-old child, “What have you been doing?” It’s hard not to see the suspicion and implicit blame in the question. That culpability, deployed with equal amounts of derision and judgment, is something that I and many other Black women and girls are all too familiar with.
Victim blaming reaches people of all races. But Black girls stand at a uniquely horrifying intersection where both gender and skin color are weaponized against them.
One study showed that as early as five years old, society perceives Black girls as “less innocent” and “more adult-like” than their non-Black counterparts, placing an unfair expectation on them to act more maturely.
In 2017, Georgetown Law’s Center on Poverty and Inequality reported that participants in a study perceived Black girls as needing less nurturing, protection, and comfort than white girls. These virulent misconceptions, of course, can be traced back to historically racist stereotypes about Black femininity. GLCPI wrote:
“These images and historical stereotypes of Black women have real-life consequences for Black girls today. According to [Jamila] Blake and colleagues, “these stereotypes underlie the implicit bias that shapes many [adult’s] view of Black females [as] … sexually promiscuous, hedonistic, and in need of socialization.”
The results of this adultification are pervasive. Black girls are often punished more severely in schools and the criminal justice system than their white peers. The ripple effects can be found all over popular culture.
Huff Post’s Taryn Finley attributed this societal perception as a key reason why R. Kelly, whose accusers were primarily Black women and girls, was able to remain successful despite allegations of child sexual abuse surrounding him for several decades. And they can be found in questions like, “What have you been doing?”
Girlhood is a delicate period. It should be a time for crushes and school dances, not confronting the dark realities of misogyny and racism. It’s time for society to allow young Black girls to be girls, instead of forcing them into becoming women. Not ask, like the nurse in this story, “What have you been doing?”

A couple of weeks ago I asked about people’s favorite book or books they read this year. Between Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and discord, I have a list of 123 books in no particular order that my friends and family loved this year. If it was a series then I listed the first book. Each star is an additional recommendation. I haven’t read all of these, they may or may not reflect my personal opinions, though my favorite books are on the list too. The most recommended books were How Far The Light Reaches by Sabrina Imbler, one or all of the Murderbot books by Martha Wells, and Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki, because if there’s one thing my friends have in common across platforms, it’s that you’re all nerds (affectionate). Enjoy, and I hope you find your new favorite book!

May I so humbly request a Prusty fic?
Finley knows EXACTLY what I want to write huh- Cried about them yesterday cried about them this morning and I will cry about them now <3
"Pearl, you're overreacting!" Dinah exclaimed, grabbing her fellow coach by the shoulders and forcing her to sit down on the couch. "He's late, Dinah! 30 minutes late! Rusty is never late to anything!" Pearl shouted back, digging her hands into her hair as Dinah kept a hold on her shoulders. "Pearl, please. He's Rusty. You know he wouldn't skip out on a date with you!" Ashley added in, she sat down beside Pearl and picked up the hairbrush that had been placed aside earlier, slowly beginning to run it through the long fluffy pink ponytail attached to the observation car. "Yeah." Buffy nodded in agreement, she leaned on Ashley a little, "That guy spent an entire championship focused on one thing only: you! You was foolin' around with other engines, but he never even considered any of us. He just wanted you. He loves you, Pearl." Pearl let out a sigh, her hands moved down to the rim of her skirt, "I...I know. I just don't see what's taking him so long. He said he'd come over to my place to pick me up by 10, but it's 10:31 now and he still ain't here." "I'm sure he's got plenty good reason, Pearl." Dinah said with a smile, "Rusty would never stand you up." ____
"IM LATE!" Rusty cried out as he speedily detached the cords that allowed him to pull the freight cars from his waist, he looked over at the clock next to the tracks, and he could read clear as day that he'd completely missed his set time with Pearl. "She's gonna think I forgot!" He gasped, "Or she's gonna think I missed it on purpose!" "Hey! Take it easy there, Rusty!" Flat-Top called out, "Relax. She'll be fine waiting a little longer." "But I'm not! I completely missed the time, Flat-Top! I told her I'd be there by 10!" Rusty yelled, whistling in frustration as he leapt off the tracks, his wheels quickly retracting. "I'm going to get there as quick as I can!" He ran off through the yard, and Flat-Top sighed, turning back to Dustin, "He didn't even pull us to the right place."
____
"PEARL!" Rusty shouted as loud as could, his heafty boots hitting the dusty ground as he ran up to her shed's door, he shoved it open, not even thinking about knocking as he stumbled in. He could hear a clearly held in sigh of relief from Pearl and some laughter from the other coaches...who he had not expected to be there. "Rusty..." Pearl smiled softly, she stood up and quickly approached him, feeling his arms wrap around her in a very tight hug as he lifted her off the ground. "Pearl! I'm so so sorry! I-I was pulling the freight today and I completely forgot to tell you, it ran over a little later than I expected and-" The steam engine's rambling apology was cut off by a kiss from Pearl, he remained silent a few moments after she pulled away, then blushed and softly chuckled, "Ready...uh...for our date, then?" Pearl nodded, she rested her head onto Rusty's chest, and she smiled even more, "Sure am."

🔁 (for an updated version 😅🥺)
Under the cut bc it is absurdly long, also let's please ignore the fact that I'm supposed to be studying for a midterm rn!
(I'm sure I'm still missing a million and I left out the ones we've talked about for ages, but also for the ocs that already had sections, I italicized the new ones so they wouldn't get lost 🥺 but also there's so many ocs and crossovers that if I missed any, lmk!)
(RWRB is a completely new section, other new ocs include Juni, Rose, Andrew, Vance, and Hana, plus the descendants section has been added to so extensively that it feels like it's basically new?)
