Sketch portrait of my Tabaxi Beast Barbarian Bun! (He/It/They). Did it for funsies, I’m working on his full ref atm! It was great practice to figure out its colors, and also anthro practice jaja
Click below for some design rambles-
Bun is mechanically a Tabaxi, but they are actually a bit of unique creature! Predominately Tabaxi, yes, again, but due to its (singular) parent being an ancient forest spirit, its inherited traits from other critters as well
Such as the rabbit’s dewlap, dog like teeth and mannerisms, bird like calls, hamster/rodent like eyes, etc etc. He can meow! But he’s pretty versatile at replicating animals I like to imagine. They also climb a bit like a squirrel lol.
In its beast form, they have a LOT of wooden bits to them! So that shows much more obviously its heritage.
I played him once and he was more of a weird cat with bear in them, but I’ve gone a bit more funky jejeje.
I’ve posted his ref WIP before! But here it is for your viewing please! I haven’t started the Beast one tho </3

another character that constantly bumps around in my head.
This young lady doesn't have a name yet, but she also has memory problems, so maybe she can't remember it? 🤷♀️
fair warning, her story is very tragic. it takes inspo from a few classic fairytales, but with a dark little twist 😉
This character is from a remote village near a mountain pass guarded by a long forgotten keep, rumoured to be inhabited by some ancient beast.
She lived with her parents and worked the fields with the other townsfolk and kin. It wasn't a glamourous life, but she was surrounded by loved ones and friends, and she was easily one of the most well loved members of the small community.
On a particularly cold winter, livestock started to go missing overnight, and after a brief investigation by the villagers, it was discovered that they had been dragged a short distance from the barns and devoured.
The villagers conferred and decided that it must be the creature that haunted the keep, and posted a watch to oversee the animals, lest they run out of food before the end of winter.
On the following morning, the guards were found mauled, and yet more animals taken. It was decided that something must be done immediately to save the village from inevitable doom, yet the village had no real warriors to speak of.
She cannot remember who exactly suggested it, but it was quickly agreed upon that offering the beast something, or someone, would hopefully appease it and cease the attacks.
She does however, remember it as her brother who claimed that it couldn't be just anybody to be offered, but should be someone whose loss would be felt the most strongly.
Before she knew it, she was being led along the mountain path to the ancient fortress. No ropes or binds were necessary, as she knew that struggle would make it more difficult for everybody.
Choking down tears, her parents hugged her one last time outside the large doors in the outer wall of the old keep.
Once the other villagers disappeared from view, she turned back to the imposing fortress and took a deep breath, before stepping through the threshold.
After a long pause, she exhaled. She let out a small, sad chuckle, as she'd half expected to be devoured as soon as her foot hit the ground on the inside of the walls. Yet there was no sign of the beast.
She spent the rest of the afternoon and evening exploring the grounds and innards of the old outpost. Yet with every old store room or hall she entered, she could find no sign of the beast.
Not willing to risk putting her family and home in more danger, even in light of the days events, she found an old barracks and settled down to sleep for the night.
Over the next few days, she wandered the halls, at first looking for any signs of life, which then quickly became a search just for signs of food.
In this time, the hunger and restlessness began to take their toll. Resentment began to build, was she not good enough for the beast? was there even a beast to begin with?
When she woke on the morn of her fourth day in the keep, she was surprised to find herself back in the bed she'd claimed for herself, with no recollection of settling down for the night.
Two more days came and went, the hunger building and the gaps in her memory each night growing longer. Until, on the sixth day, wakingin this foresaken ruin, hungry and alone, the rage and desperation finally boilled over, and she blacked out again.
When she finally came to again, she wasn't in her uncomfortable lodgings in the keep. In fact, she was in her own bed, and her hunger was gone. Perhaps it was all a terrible nightmare?
She rushed to get up and find and embrace her family, but stopped in her tracks when she found what remained of them in the common room of their humble home.
It was only then that she noticed the dark red stains covering her clothes and the equally red grime under her fingernails.
So, mechanically she is a Human Barbarian, Path of the Beast. But for the most part she would play as a scared and traumatised woman, trying to flee her dark past and discover the source of the curse that ripped her life and home away from her.
I love stories and characters with more monstrous origins than your typical adventurers, and i feel like playing with the dynamic of a Barbarian who is afraid of their rage and what it can do too the people around themwould be an interesting dynamic to explore.
