The second addition to the instrumental crate is now public! If you've got music over on Spotify that you'd like me to add to the list (or maybe an artist/song that you think should be thrown into the mix), shoot me a message and let me know!

I play guitar but not very well, so I programmed something on the Saz instead. I was too lazy to edit the timing and velocity of the MIDI, so I just added layers to make it sound more interesting and less robotic. It sounded like E1M1 from DOOM and it uses middle eastern instruments, thus 𝐃𝐎𝐎𝐍. I don't know anything about composing or arranging for any sort of middle eastern music, so most of my stuff sounds like a desert theme for a video game lmao. Those always go hard for no reason, though. Diablo 2's desert theme?? Any desert theme from a MARIO game???? Lord have mercy,,
The neat thing about this style of music is that you can focus on rhythm and melody and less on harmony, which makes it go super well with trap music. The instruments can be really timbrally rich, so you don't necessarily want super thick harmonies or the notes will surely clash. Instead, you can just layer and make a super thick wall of sound. I also like using this genre as an excuse to use whatever ethnic percussion is typically used. Using real drums always makes your beats sound way more interesting and it differentiates it from everyone else who just uses a regular trap kit.
With any music that's super loud, you want to play with silence and quiet to make the louder parts pop, so I periodically choked everything but the Kanun which repeats the melody in a higher pitch. It's hitting just harmonics on the strings which is way easier to do with MIDI than on a real instrument lol. Hopefully, I can play a real Kanun someday, though. Always wanted to try an Oud, too. Fun fact, Darren Korb used a real Saz on the Hades soundtrack. That's neat. He seems cool.
