I’m trying to decide between the Barbour Beaufort and the Bedale. Which would you recommend?

That depends. Both qualify as timeless English country styles and will serve you well for years to come. The differences are in the details.

Bedale: For the Equestrian

The Bedale was designed in 1980 for equestrian uses, and therefore has details like snap studded gusseted side vents to accommodate a saddle. It also makes it more flexible at the hips, should that be your preference. The Bedale has woolen knitted inner storm cuffs designed to prevent rain from running down your arms as you hold the reins. They’re warmer but fit less well over other garments like a suit or the thick cuffs of a heavy sweater. Note that Barbour does sell Gilets that fit nicely under their slimmer fitting jackets that add warmth without bulk—I’ve been very happy with mine and it extends the wear time of my lighter jackets into the early winter months.

Beaufort: For the Game Hunter

The Beaufort, released in 1983, was intended for use in shooting. It has a rear nylon-lined game pocket called a poacher's pocket with zippered access on both sides. This can be used to store goods to keep them dry during extended walks in the rain. It also has some more material than the Bedale. It’s a little longer and has Velcro fastening nylon inner cuffs, designed to break away when lifting arms quickly to shoot. There are also some slight differences in the inner pockets that can be read below.

My Thoughts

As to my personal recommendation, I think it really comes down to what you’re using it for and which features you like. I would personally prefer the Bedale at the moment for its slightly shorter fit and flexible waist. I just like the shorter style for this type of jacket.

Though the corduroy collar is a timeless style with some functionality such as to keep rain away from the wearer, I actually like the Royston style over either jacket because of its Harrington style collar and streamlined fit (see the picture below for reference). Keep in mind that I live in a major city in the United States and will not be planning any long countryside treks through the muck, rain, and mud anytime soon. It’s a little lighter-weight, too, which fits my climate. I have several Barbour jackets but have yet to invest in one of their waxed jackets. If I do, it will simply be a light rain jacket for Spring or Fall. I wouldn’t plan to wear bulky sweaters or a suit underneath, and I prefer slimmer fits.

As a second alternative, I also recommend considering the longer Border jacket if you do plan to do significant layering—such as a thicker winter suit—or if you need additional protection from the elements, or are very tall.

Tarian Bubu by the Kedayan ethnic

When I was younger, I was told that we used to be having a cultural event which really exciting to do but now it was gone and forbidden to do it again. It was called as “Tarian Bubu’ which is used to be the communal event for the Kedayan people in Brunei Darussalam. I was told that it was disturbing for the audience who has faint hearted or even children who are under 6 years old. My sister had experience it live when she was 5 years old that she witnessed a fish trap was dancing by itself without the movement by the people and it was said to be awaken by some forbidden mantras or song which now illegal to perform. So, what is so unique about this event and why it is prohibited?

Basically, Bubu Dance is one of the traditional games found in the state of Sabah which has been inherited since time immemorial by our ancestors and is still practiced by the community today. Trap dance is also known as lukah dance by the local community. Apart from that, trap dance is also famous among the Bisaya and Iban culture. The origin of the Bubu Dance Trap dance was originally from the Kadayan people of Brunei and this dance appeared to be forbidden to be perform by the order of Islam. The trap dance is also said to be originated from the district of Beaufort, Sabah which is in the tribes of Brunei, Bisaya and Kadayan which the Purpose of this traditional game is practiced by the local community is because they believe that the dance has its own function and purpose which affects the people who practice it.

Among the purpose of this trap dance is to drive away evil spirits. They believe that the trap has its own spirit or aura to repel the bad elements that disturb their society. Trap dance is also a tool to be performed in a ceremony performed by the community. In addition, traps also serve to treat sick people. It is also performed during weddings and circumcision ceremonies. If there were an important people like the royals or the high ranked people who came to visits their place, they will be presented with a trap dance as a sign of respect and promote the arrival of these people to their place. The function of this trap dance serves as entertainment only by the local community and the dance is still practiced in Malaysia today because this game will be inherited by the children of the previous trap dance practitioner and it should be continued by his heirs.

In addition, trap dance can also function for medical purposes, among which is to treat people who are possessed. The spirit can also be restored by performing this dance. Prohibitions that should be followed while performing the trap dance ritual is said not to be stepped on especially by children because children are very weak in spirit and they may be possessed if they step on the trap. People who are weak, no matter how old or young, will be easily interrupted even if they only watch the dance performance because the dance is said to be mystical by the people of Kadayan, Brunei, so they must strengthen their spirit to avoid being easily possessed.

Among the other taboos is that the trap can only be used to catch fish after seven days the trap is pulled. If the trap is kept at home within seven days after it is played, the discouraged person who looks at the trap will see the trap as moving on its own. It is possible that the person will be possessed. Types of Traps Male Traps- The material used to make men's traps is a long mortar. The way to turn on a trap is the same as turning on a female trap. Female Traps- the materials used are traps where it is made of bamboo. Baju kurung is used to show that it is a female trap. On how to awakening the female traps is the same as waking up the male bubu, which takes a short time. This is because spells are already included in the ingredients. To turn ‘on’ the trap takes a long time which the traps is used to catch fish. The bait used is rubber seed bait where the rubber seeds are wrapped using knot leaves. Oil palm fruit is also used to catch fish. The child must be 21 blades. If it is for the dance purposes, the bamboo should be dyed. For trap dance as well, the shape varies in terms of the length and heights.

Richard Womack Generation No. 2

Richard Womack was born Abt. 1655 in Henrico County, Virginia, and died Bef. April 25, 1684 in Henrico County, Virginia. He married Mary Elizabeth Ruth Puckettin Abt. 1675 in Henrico County, Virginia, daughter of John Puckett and Ann Jefferys.

Richard received a patent for 450 acres of land in Henrico Co., March 15, 1672. This land lays on the North side of the Appomattox River adjoining Aspen Swamp. Richard, a trader with the Indians, was killed probably by the Seneca Indians while returning from a trip to the interior. After Richards death Mary married John Granger sometime around the 1st of April 1690.

By 1771 he had married Mildred Pryor, as proven in the Will of John Pryor, her father, dated 1771, Orange County, North Carolina. He served as a Revolutionary War Soldier. Was appointed on 11 Sept. 1777, Patroller of the Nash District in North Carolina. David sold out 1784 probably living in the Northwest part of South Carolina for a time before finally settling in St. Helena Parish, Louisana.

Mildred Pryor is one of few individuals who's ancestry has been documented back to Biblical times. The Royal line of Kings and Queens.

Richard Mansel Womack IV: Settled in Louisana, purchased land adjoining his brother Col. Abner in 1809. Martha was probably of Indian descent (Choctaw). She patented land in Copiah Co., MS., Dec. 24, 1834, which was sold Jan. 3, 1835. Abner and Annastacy were co-signers. Richard served in the 12th Regt., LA., Militia during the war of 1812.

James Scott Bumgarner was born in Norman, OK., 1928. His mother died when he was five. At age 16, he quit high school to join the Merchant Marines, where he served for one year. Jim then moved to Los Angeles, where his father had relocated, and attended Hollywood High School for about a year. He held numerous odd jobs, one of his first jobs was modeling swim trunks for Jantzen Sportswear. After about a year in Tinsletown Jim returned to Oklahoma where he starred in football at Norman High School, and later joined the State National Guard. In 1950 he was drafted for the Korean War; The first person from the State of Oklahoma drafted as an infantryman, He served 14 months in Korea for the Fifth Regimental Combat Team of the 24th Division and was awarded two Purple Hearts for wounds he suffered in action. After his discharge in 1952, Jim enrolled in Norman University, but dropped out after one semester and returned to Los Angeles to work with his father, a carpet layer.

Upon his return, Garner looked up an old friend who had become a producer during his absence. The friend, Paul Gregory, gave Garner his first acting job in the stage production of "The Caine Mutiny Court Martial."

His popularity was secured in the 1950s hit television series "Maverick." He also went on to star in another successful series, "The Rockford Files," for which he was awarded an Emmy. To this day, there is still a demand for more episodes with Garner as the Malibu private investigator.

A Golden Globe winner for his work in the HBO telefilm "Decoration Day" and "Barbarians at the Gate," Garner has earned numerous Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his work in the acclaimed telefilms "Heartsounds," "Promise," "My Name is Bill W.," "Decoration Day," and "Breathing Lessons."
