A lovely late night for training.
Falkner is out with his Noctowl, so we've decided to wander the forests around Ecruteak. This is a small warning, just so that if anyone sees us, or me in particular, not to panic! I am not a ghost. I am not going to possess you. That would be very distasteful, even if I were a ghost.
I would really enjoy not having to go through this every time I go for a walk at night.

what's your favorite area in a pokemon game?
I really like anville town and all the bridges in unova (i'll include the marine tube in that) i really like how out of the way anville town is, it took me a while to figure out how to get there the first time even after i noticed it on the map, it's neat finding an entire town you didn't know existed! also there's a guy who will tell you about the different battle subway trains and i think that's really fun, the bridges i just like because they're neat!
anville town is really cool, i was going through some shit when the unova games came out so i didn't play them as in depth as pretty much every other pokemon game as a kid but now that i've replayed bw and played bw2 for the first time as an adult i can definitely appreciate anville town a lot more. "superfluous" areas like that in pokemon that don't serve story relevance but are just there to be interesting feel like a lost art almost. i love that i could just go there to learn about the unova trains. cause why not HSJDFKFS and GOD THE MARINE TUBE IS SO PRETTY I SAW IT FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST YEAR AND IT'S SO COOL... i am a huge aquarium fan IRL so i was like :D
as for my personal favorite areas Hmmm... honestly while there's probably more objective opinions i could have based on visuals or whatever, i have to give it to floaroma town from dppt purely for the nostalgia value and personal connection i have with it. as a kid before i had any sort of mp3 player and while i was going through a lot of trauma/abuse, i used to sometimes leave my DS on standing in different locations to listen to the music to sleep through my ptsd nightmares and stuff. floaroma town at night was one of my favorite locations for this and i associate its theme and general vibe with comfort through hard times in my childhood. i hope that wasn't too heavy i say this with completely positive feelings lol
however some honorable mentions go to bellchime trail in HGSS (the path leading to bell tower) and like you mentioned, the marine tube :] both very pretty transitional locations to the next place or town... oh and pattern bush in FRLG solely because of the easter egg of all the seemingly nonsensical grass patterns being in the shape of the circuit board of original red/green carts... and the actual encounters are. ahem. full of bugs LOOOL

Let's Go Johto Concepts
I figure since I potentially only have a month left to share these, I might as well share my concepts for what the original characters to a Let's Go Johto could potentially be. If someone wants to draw them, I wouldn't say no, but I really don't expect that to happen.
Kenny: The male player character, whose name comes from "kin," meaning "gold" in Japanese. Blond with brown eyes, wears a red-and-yellow sweatshirt, black pants, and a red-and-yellow hat. Basically styled after a Fast Ball. Depending on the version, he receives an Elekid or a Magby. As an NPC, however, he starts with a Tyrogue, which ultimately becomes a Hitmontop.
Ginny: The female player character, with her name coming from "gin," meaning "silver." Ash-colored pigtailed hair and gray eyes, she wears a red jacket, black shirt, and blue overalls. Her hat is a teal skull cap with a small red bow. Once again, her starter is Elekid or Magby depending on the version, but Tyrogue/Hitmontop as an NPC.
Final Team (Either): Hitmontop/Bellossom/Mega Beedrill/Kingdra/Raichu/Houndoom
Russ: The friendly rival of the game, with his name coming from "rust." Spiky orange hair and green eyes, he wears a black t-shirt and brown pants. He's confident in his friendship with his Eevee, but he unknowingly forces his ideals of strength on it and his other Pokemon, and so it doesn't evolve until some time after a devastating loss to Silver, at which point it becomes an Umbreon. Aside from that, he adopts Professor Elm's Magby/Elekid into his team after it escapes the lab to follow its counterpart.
Final Team: Umbreon/Magmar or Electabuzz/Ampharos or Arcanine/Crobat/Blissey/Mega Alakazam
Suzu: The antagonistic rival of the game, and the first Trainer the player battles, her name literally means "bell." Blue hair in a hime-style cut, wearing a school uniform-style outfit. An apprentice Kimono Girl, she thinks herself destined to bring the Legendary Pokemon back to Ecruteak, and refuses to believe they could be the one to do it instead. She uses an Eevee as her main battler, which evolves into Espeon over the course of the game.
Final Team: Espeon/Ninetales/Magneton/Noctowl/Donphan/Mega Gengar
Aside from that, you encounter Raikou or Entei upon leaving Mr. Pokemon's house, causing Togepi to hatch right away. Togepi is a Partner Pokemon, with increased stats, and is scripted to evolve in a brief cutscene just before fighting Archer. The Pokemon recognizes you at the Burned Tower, causing Suicune to become interested in you too, and ultimately the last Beast. You catch Raikou/Entei at the Bell Tower, Suicune on Route 25, and Entei/Raikou roams Johto once it escapes the Burned Tower, but its cry sounds out once you enter the route it's currently on (accompanied by a "!" over the player's head), and all you have to do is get it to spawn.
Catching all three Legendary Beasts and showing them to Suzu earns you the Rainbow Wing, which you can of course use to encounter Ho-oh. Just as in Crystal, the old man in Pewter gives you the Silver Wing, unlocking Lugia.
Russ battles you in New Bark Town after he adds the runaway Pokemon to his team, Azalea Town after beating Bugsy, the Burned Tower upon entering for the first time, Goldenrod Tunnel after entering the Warehouse, Victory Road at the very end, and Mt. Moon upon entering. After that, he can be rematched at Indigo Plateau.
Suzu battles you in Cherrygrove City on the way back from Mr. Pokemon's house, Azalea Town after Team Rocket is defeated, Ecruteak City after beating the Rocket harassing the Kimono Girl, Goldenrod Tunnel before unlocking the Warehouse door, Bellchime Trail after catching Raikou/Entei, and Cerulean City after catching Suicune. After that, she can be rematched in the Ecruteak Theater.
Effectively, Silver's battles are divided up between Russ and Suzu, but Silver himself plays a role in the story. He's generally the one to teach the player's Togepi/Togetic Secret Techniques, namely Chop Down, Sea Skim, and Whirl Ride (the replacement for Whirlpool). Chuck's wife gives the player a Sky Dash machine, the toughness-obsesed Sailor in Olivine's Cafe teaches Strong Push, the Elder of course teaches you Light Up, you get taught Break Rocks (Rock Smash) after catching Sudowoodo, the guy in Ilex Forest teaches Ram Head (Headbutt), and Silver teaches you Falls Climb (Waterfall) once you reach Tohjo falls, but not before you defeat him in a battle.
Lyra reprises her role as your neighbor and the Day-Care Couple's granddaughter. Her role is largely the same as in HGSS, but you can battle her once per day on Route 34 after defeating Blue. Kris appears with Professor Oak at Mr. Pokemon's house, and after getting permission to go to Mt. Silver, she arrives back at Oak's lab, where she can be challenged once per day. You have to defeat her at least once to unlock Ethan, who can then be fought at the base of Mt. Silver, after which he tells you about Red, whom he's apparently been training with.
Green guards the entrance to Cerulean Cave, as well as the recently released Mewtwo, who she reveals saved the people and Pokemon on Cinnabar Island a year ago. She battles you with her team from LGPE.
Blue is of course the Viridian Gym Leader, battling you with his LGPE team.
Chase and Elaine can be battled in Pallet Town. Chase uses Pikachu, the Kanto starters, Hitmonlee, and Kabutops, while Elaine uses Eevee, the Kanto Eeveelutions, Hitmonchan, and Omastar.
Trace can be found in Lavender Town, helping out Mr. Fuji. He uses his Let's Go Eevee team, meaning Raichu, because Elaine is using Jolteon as part of her team.
Red is atop Mt. Silver, just like always. Like Blue and Green, he reprises his LGPE team.

Can you tell us more about how you and yuri were friends as kids?
"Oh, of course. It started as a case of -- her mom and my mom were friends. They'd come here to spend time among the monks, re-sanctify the little shrine they have built here. I was just shy of taking over the gym when we really started spending time together.
She's a lot younger than me, so it should have felt like babysitting, but -- I, uh, I didn't have a lot of friends growing up. No big surprise there. I was the weird kid who hated loud noises and hung out with ghosts. Eusine was my only friend for a while, and he moved around too much to always be there.
She would spend a lot of time with me and say she was going to protect me from the spirits. She knew I was sensitive to them, I think, so she kept trying to stick spirit tags on me."
He laughs at the memory, his expression soft as he continues talking.
"She would spend the days with me at the gym when I took over, and we would go to the Bellchime Trail when I wasn't busy. One time, she sat by me and showed me the dance she'd been trying to learn from the Kimono Girls. It wasn't perfect -- hard to be when you need four other girls dancing with you -- but it was nice.
She's always just been...nice to me."
relationship asks.

Pokemon has some GREAT locations, especially with graphics updates, rip most of Kanto though because I didn't play LGPE but: Indigo Plateau, Will and Karen's room in the Elite Four, Bellchime Trail + Bell Tower, Seafloor Cavern/Cave of Origin, Sky Pillar, Ever Grande City Elite Four Roads, Annistar City by the Sun Dial + the Gym, Kalos Route 7, Galar Mines, Hammerlocke, Glimwood Tangle, Thrifty Megamart, Altar of the Moone/Sunne, Ultra Megalopolis, Guzzlord Ultra Ruin, Po Town and the outside roof walkway of the Shady House, Ula'Ula Meadow, Black Tower, there's honestly too many locations to count. *cries*
NOW YOU REALLY GET ME
Will's room in HGSS is SO cool, it's probably one of my favorite E4 rooms in the entire series, but I've never heard anyone else mention it!! I haven't played LGPE either so I'm right there with you tbh. man,,,, thinking about possible Unova remakes has me excited now that you've mentioned the visuals upgrade, I'm gonna lose my mind dfghjhgfd

[Image Description: A woman with tanned skin, green eyes, and violet hair in a large bun with a fancy silver hair decoration. She is wearing a red sweater with yellow accents, a golden necklace and matching bracelet, a teal skirt with aqua and turquoise detailing at the bottom, pale blue socks, and purple slip-on shoes. She is winking at the viewer and playing an orange violin. Beside her is the Pokemon Bellossom. It is a small green humanoid with two red rafflesia-like flowers on its head and large yellow and green leaves around its lower half, resembling a grass skirt. The background is the Bellchime Trail, a location in Johto from the Pokemon games. It is a long road flanked by yellow and orange trees, leading to an old-fashioned Japanese tower. End ID.]
-----
"Cantessy's Champion, I presume? Pleasure to make your acquaintance. My name is Sakiko, and I come from the Johto region. The beautiful landscape of your region rivals that of my home, right down to the glorious color of the autumn leaves. It's enough to bring forth music in my heart. Of course, you and I both know that neither of us are here for that kind of performance. The entire purpose of this facility is to do battle with Trainers of high skill, yes? I don't intend to lose, even to a regional Champion."
More Battle Peak representatives! Johto's representative is Sakiko, a violinist and old friend of Pokemon Plow's grass-type Gym Leader, Kusaoi. Like them, she was very much into music, taking a more classical path with regards to her instrument of choice. They actually used to be dating before parting on amicable terms due to each realizing they weren't straight (and in Kusaoi's case, not cis), and when Kusaoi left for Cantessy they kept in close contact with one another.
Given that Battle Peak is a Battle Tower-esque setup, Sakiko's team is slightly randomized depending on what battle conditions you have set. She will select either three (for single battles) or four (for double battles) from her "full" team of six. She will always include Bellossom on her team, and the rest of her team can include Crobat, Heracross, Girafarig, Sudowoodo, or Kingdra.

Notes from my work at the North Johto Pokémon Conservation.
North Johto is a beautiful place, and the conservation (north of Bellchime trail if that rings any bells— pardon the pun). I founded it with the help of some research associates from Professor Elm’s lab. His was the first I worked in before I branched out to new horizons. Anyways, the site is a haven for Pokémon that would otherwise struggle to survive in the wild. This includes Pokémon with disabilities, Pokémon who were released from trainer care, baby Pokémon who don’t have parental or trainer care, non-native Pokémon, and many more.
The conservation allows us to observe and document these Pokémon’s behaviors and biologies in much more detail, but with the caveat that these behaviors may vary due to the special circumstances of each individual Pokémon. They can also give us unique insights into how these Pokémon engage with one another!
For example, Clefairy are known to have an affinity for the moon and go out to socialize on full moons. There are four Clefairy living in the conservation, one of which is blind. This clefairy is older than the other three, and even when it was the only Clefairy in the conservation, it could tell when the moon was full and preformed the social dances unique to it’s species. This tells us that Clefairy have some sort of internal clock or other way of telling the lunar phase, and that their dances may have more purposes than just socialization if the Clefairy preformed them alone. (Note: the Clefairy may have thought that other members of it’s species were nearby due to it’s blindness however this is very unlikely due to Clefairy’s sharp sense of hearing. It would have likely known that no other Pokémon were nearby). Also interesting to note, as more Clefairy joined the conservation, they began to help bring the blind individual items like ripe berries, nesting material that had the sharp burrs and twigs picked out, and other things that were easier to do with sight. This behavior was an unexpected but touching development, showing that Clefairy are willing to provide support to members of their species, even those who are not part of their kinship group.
Another example is the Magcargo and Slugma on site. Many trainers realize that they don’t have the proper equipment and location to care for these Pokémon, and the Johto Region’s natural hotspots are few and far between. There is a collection of forges, sand pits, coal deposits, and other environmental modifications that have been installed to allow these molten Pokémon to thrive. Having these Pokémon under observation has taught us a lot about their biology! For example, Magcargo’s shell is constantly forming, melting, being reabsorbed into the magma, and then being reformed. Magcargo’s diet has a big impact on the composition and appearance of the Pokémon’s shell. High intakes of basalt, scoria, and other volcanic rocks result in a dark, rough and bumpy shell, while consumption of mineral deposits, iron, quartz, and crystalline structures result in a lighter colored, more geometric shell. You can actually tell what a Magcargo has eaten in the past few weeks based on it’s shell construction!
I’ve spent a lot of time at this conservation, and I frequently return here, so you can expect more data from this site in the future!
