Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die. 

Referring to the Lake district, which is supposedly the most romantic place in the UK. Poets refers to the ‘lake poets’ that consisted of William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Robert Southey.

I don’t belong and my beloved, neither do you 

Meaning she doesn’t feel as if she or her ex lover Joe Alwyn belong in the chaos they’re in.

I want to watch wisteria grow right over my bare feet 

Wisteria is a flower that’s known for long living. This is a message that signals that she wants to be at peace without chaos. 

I’m setting off, but not without my muse

She doesn’t want to go to the lakes (the lake district) without her lover, because she’s finally found a love that she feels she can’t lose.

i know this has been pointed out several several times but I am still left mindblown whenever I recall the premise ‘when you are young they assume you know nothing’ with the parallel between James taking advantage of such assumption by saying ‘I’m only 17 I don’t know anything’ and Betty constantly trying to confute such stereotype about young people by starting every chorus with ‘I knew you’ followed by all the things she is certain she knew to then in the verse three listing the entirety of james’ behavior repeating she knew it would go that way to then eventually state ‘cause I knew everything when I was young’ and yeah this is the poetic transposition of ‘boys will be boys’ and ‘girls mature faster’ and how it benefits boys acting childish while expecting girls to rationalize and therefore justify boys’ behavior.

i have no idea if people care about my taylor swift be more chill crossovers but i need the lord above to hear me out (also this is very ooc but it wouldn’t be if like an actual writer wrote this out properly yknow)

betty could be such a boyf riends song yknow, like jeremy didn’t have a summer fling but he treated michael so badly and realistically in a highschool setting micheal would’ve just quietly distanced himself from jeremy, which some people headcanon is what happened after the events of bmc because no way are they going back to what they once were. there’s going to be some tension between them and in my au rn they give each other really awkward glances, in my life ive seen people literally switch classes to avoid that awkward stage, and they’re whiny teens maybe that happens.

now in jeremy’s mind rn, michael absolutely hates his guts, and the verses represent his inner thoughts, examples:

basically he’s just going crazy thinking that michael has completely changed and doesn’t want to even see his face again, and he’s thinking of worst case scenario’s. he has this idea that he can’t even apologize to michael because that’s how much he hates jeremy.

anyways one night he gets the balls to go up to michael and talk, it’s jakes party obviously, maybe a new year’s party if you want that. he goes specifically to talk to michael and try to apologize to him. he finds michael sitting on the front porch (this detail is important) and quietly sits next to him. jeremy apologizes for not saying something earlier, and he ends his apology with “i don’t know anything but i know i miss you” because the song. michael is quiet for a moment so jeremy excuses himself, and JUST THEN. michael stands up and hugs jeremy, perhaps even kisses him, and the two boys stay there in an embrace. btw im referencing these lyrics if you didn’t wanna listen to the song.
