this panel is super special to me and it's one of my favorites in the whole manga cause it shows how dedicated to his routine Shoyo is. his room is super organized, shelf is filled with a large variety of books, the dragon ball dvds in THREE different languages (portuguese, english and spanish) and his healthy meals-everything is a silent demonstration of how Shoyo’s mindset is, how much he learned and still learning to take care of himself better and raise his limits.
Tumblr media
Shoyo takes everything in stride nowadays as he follows a chill routine in which he takes care of himself and plays the best of the best in volleyball, always prioritizing his well-being using discipline as the key 🧡

part of what makes brazil so special in my mind is not only did oikawa show up right when hinata needed him to, but meeting hinata there when he did also healed something in oikawa, something that had been hurting for years. do you- do you get it? they both saved each other then. they both needed the other in that moment and no one else could have filled that role… don’t you get it… oikawa saved hinata and hinata saved oikawa they both got what they needed when they needed it

okay no see the thing that made me really, really sad about hinata and the thing that made me really, really root for him and love him and want to see him win it all was how, like, people kept DENYING him. and i'm not talking about spectators in the stands going "omg he's so short haha, can he really do anything?" i'm talking about how his own team and how everyone who knew them in some way - as much as i love them - could never really separate him from kageyama. they were the freak quick duo, karasuno's number nine and number ten. they were amazing! so brilliant, the two of them. and hinata thought it was a way out, at first. he thought it was a way over the summit. he thought it was the key to being someone better.
but a key goes both ways, you know. it can lock you up just as much as it can set you free.
and hinata had to be so, so frustrated. everyone was finding ways to move forward except him. everyone expected him to stay stuck. and you could argue that that's not entirely true, sure, that he was always training, always trying to catch up, and they encouraged that. but nobody ever expected him to be more. nobody ever expected him to go beyond what he had with kageyama - they all thought that was enough for hinata. they thought he was fine like that because it worked for the rest of them. they underestimated how much he wanted to be capable. they didn't get how much he wanted to stand on his own two feet.
and that wasn't fair to hinata! it wasn't fair that hinata, who loved to play and loved the game and loved volleyball so so much, was the only one being left behind! he wanted to change that but nobody was trying with him!!! so of course he got impatient!! of course he was reckless!!! of course he was carving his own opportunities!!! there was no way forward otherwise!!! because if we take a minute to think about how training would have gone while kageyama was at tokyo, let's be honest — it probably wouldn't have gone well. nobody else can do with hinata what kageyama could do with him. hinata would have been held back. he would have felt useless. practicing serves and receives was stuff he was already doing constantly before that, and it wasn't teaching him anything. yeah hinata was a little bit selfish and a little bit shameless but being so finally got him somewhere!!
all hinata ever wanted to do was fly, even if it meant straying from the flock to do so

A personal Hinata headcanon of mine is that after learning Portuguese, he got kinda hooked on languages. He started learning a whole bunch of different languages either after coming to Brazil or leaving. (English, Spanish, French, in addition to Japanese and Portuguese is what I had in mind). Like idk, he failed English in high school, but once he was able to learn it for himself, not for a grade, and certainly not in a boring way his adhd couldn't understand, he got good at it. I don't think he's stupid. He may be dumb, but he's not stupid. I actually quite like the idea of him being a total nerd in lesser academic-y categories, like linguistics and etymology, the arts and history, and he'd like them especially for the cultural significance. He likes going to new places, even if they're not really that far from home, he just likes the new experiences and knowing how things are different between the two. Like how socially and economically different Miyagi and Tokyo are, how the behavior changes between the players at all the different schools, etc. He'd totally read up on the history of Brazil, wanting to learn everything about the culture there, just because it interested him. He'd probably like the history and cultural and social significance of different music genres and different art styles. He's content living in either Brazil or Japan; he's got no time for traveling the world like Nishinoya, but he learns a bunch of languages anyhow, simply because it's fun. Another headcanon is that he can cook really well (which I can explain another time), but he'd def cook all kinds of foreign dishes, once again, mostly for the culture. It's different. It's a new experience, one of his favorite things in the world, and now that he has the money and freedom and knowledge to make said dishes, the world is literally his oyster! He'd do anything to learn more about why certain cultures eat certain foods, why a certain genre of music is popular there, why they speak the way they do, all because it's fun and interesting to know!

I have this friend from Brazil and we were listening to some of her music in the car the other day. And I recognized an old song that was apparently really only popular around São Paulo where she grew up. She was shocked when I started singing along and asked where I had heard it. I had to say some random bullshit about a travel video or something because I didn’t have the heart to tell her I heard it in a Haikyuu Brazil arc edit.

Haikyuu!! bonus story ~ Preparation 🍊🧡
i love the haikyuu bonus stories so much, this one especially must be the cutest ever! it shows how Pedro always wanted to be friends with Hinata but when he realized he was the athletic type, he got really insecure, thinking that they could never be friends due to their differences.
Tumblr media
this doesn't stop Pedro, tho. He works really hard to learn a bit of Japanese, enough to communicate with Shoyo and to be able to get closer to him, watching anime together 🥰 and of course Shoyo also does his best to befriend Pedro! their friendship is one of the dearest in the whole series and i couldn't be more proud of how they start to bond even with their differences 🧡
Tumblr media
them bonding over their favorite things feels so realistic. It's always amazing when we find someone who loves the same things we do, and I'm happy Hinata found a deep, true friendship so early in his dear roomate.
Tumblr media
The fact that Pedro is the one that helps Shoyo to write the Portuguese texts in his notebook makes everything better 🧡
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The moment to say goodbye arrives, but they will always keep in touch! Hinata really loves Pedro, they're like family now 🥹 and he even reminds him that eating vegetables is important hehehe i can't help but think that Shoyo is his big brother now 🥰
