Lillian agreed, then took a deep breath. "But Sam, I need something. I need to see my daughter more. These messages, they're just a tease."

"And she misses you," Sam countered, before Cait could draw breath to speak herself. "But, Lillian, the last three times we planned something, you bailed twice. Twice." His jaw set, his eyes burned the hot blue of stars, and his anger fueled the embers of her own. Before it could go out of control again (she'd wanted to—what? the memory had gone up in smoke), she leashed it, channeled it into words.

"Cora knows you're not really invested in her, Lillian," Cait said, choosing every word with exquisite care. "She certainly knows that you put being a Ranger over spending time with her. And pretty soon now, she's going to figure out that you aren't actually interested in your reading club. Right now, she just thinks you're a slow reader."

Lillian flushed. "How dare you say that?"

Cait felt a slow, angry smile cross her face. "Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes. You must look into that storm and shout as you did in Rome: Do your worst, for I will do mine! Then the fates will know you as we know you." Lillian still looked confused. "That's only one of the most famous quotes from the book you're supposed to be reading right now."

"Do you have any idea the looks I get when I'm reading Dumas around the other Rangers?" Lillian demanded.

"If you really cared about Cora," Cait said softly, "it wouldn't matter."

"For crying out loud, Lillian," Sam added, "where do you think the whole 'Rangers always have each other's back' thing comes from?" Lillian looked at him in complete astonishment. "I'm not the reader Cora or Cait is—" His anger was dissipating, replaced with a sort of grim amusement that damped Cait's anger like a fire extinguisher "—but I'm not immune to a rousing adventure. Like, oh, The Three Musketeers." He let that hang in the air.

"All for one, and one for all," Cait murmured.

"And books aside, what this all boils down to," Sam said, "is that every time you bail out on Cora, it destroys her. And I'm the one left to pick up the pieces." Now that her own anger was more-or-less quenched, Cait could clearly sense the memory of Sam's devastation as it shivered coldly through him.

"Be honest with yourself, Lillian," Cait commanded. "Do you really think you can put Cora first? Every time? Because if you can't, then you need to stop pretending that you can."

Lillian winced, shaken to the core by Cait's brutal honesty, as Sam added, "Whatever you've got going on with Cora right now, I won't stand in the way of that. But we're not going to make plans again if you can't be sure you're going to make them. Even if there's an emergency."

Lillian sighed. "It's so often a matter of life and death, you know that—" There are other Rangers, Cait thought, but did not say. Lillian needed to make this decision herself. "—but you're right. Maybe—maybe when she's older." When she's older, Cait knew, would never happen; Lillian had just driven a stake through the heart of any hope of a closer relationship with Cora. Unless she changed drastically, and soon, this was the most she would ever have. Cait couldn't find it in herself to be sorry—at least, not for Lillian. Silently, she vowed to do everything she could to make the inevitable easier on Cora.

Sam nodded solemnly; Cait wondered if he'd heard the same thing she had. "Okay. Friends, right?"

Lillian set herself, and underneath all the turmoil, the anger, the resentment, Cait thought she heard a faint note of relief. "Friends." She gave a soft, rueful laugh. "You and me—we were over before we ever began." Cait hadn't expected the turn of conversation, and now she did feel like she was intruding. She took a half-step back, intending to make a discreet exit, but the ice cracking beneath her foot betrayed her. Lillian offered her a soft half-smile, but her emotions had sharpened into something almost—speculative. "No need," she said. "Sam and I—we didn't really choose each other, we just sort of—fell into it. I admire him, and he's one of the few people in the Systems that can make me laugh… but he's right. What we had, was never love. Not then, and not now."

"Truth," Sam agreed.

"All right," Cait said, feeling like the ground itself was shaking underneath her. She was teetering on the edge of emotional overload, and she knew it. "Do you think you two can go on from here? Is there anything else you need to address?"

Sam shook his head in silence. "No," Lillian met her gaze without flinching; after a moment, a half-smile curved her lips. "Sam's found himself one hell of an advocate."

Cait shook her head. "Sam didn't need me to support him—he did just fine." Sam's surprised appreciation curled up through her, adding itself to the storm already raging inside of her. "He needed it for Cora." She breathed deeply of the cold air, trying to use the shock to steady her for just a few moments more. "I'll go take a walk while the two of you finish up whatever you need to. Lillian, I presume we're dropping you back at Neon?"

"No need," Lillian said. "I've arranged for pickup. But I will make sure to say goodbye to Cora before you lift off." She gave Cait a long, considering look. "And thank you. You've given both of us a real gift. Not a comfortable gift, but…" she let out a sigh. "Honesty is the best way to go... however painful. As if I didn't owe you already."

"I'm not one to keep score," Cait said. "But I'm glad I could help. If you'll excuse me…" She nodded to them both, then walked away quickly before either of them could draw her back in.

Okay oc lore time

Jonny Quest the real adventures and the direct to video scooby movies takes place in the same universe. Myra is friends with the Quest Kids and Jessie Bannon.

Reboot (the cgi cartoon from 1994) also takes place in the same universe; Mainframe can access QuestWorld. Race Bannon flirted with Hexidecimal much to the horror of everyone else.

Swat Kats take place on another planet (nearly canonized in a scrapped ending for one of the episodes). I have a SK OC who works as the Kats' mission control/backup member.

Beau is a government agent who got cursed by the evil werecats; after their defeat died he was cured but had to send all his findings to the Quests so they can help the victims' families find closure. He then goes on to be an informant for various super teams.

Skysurfers also exists because that show was made by the same creators of Scooby Doo; Jack Hollister's father used to be lab partners with Dr. Quest.

Acceleracers takes place in the same universe due to being made by the same folks who made Reboot (being Canadian productions irl).

Mainframe and Cyberspace (of Cyberchase fame) may be linked, technically considers Mainframe a Site.

Gen 13 (mix of comics & the animated film) is set in the same verse. Unlike the movies Matthew Callahan doesn't die but remains under the custody of John Lynch; also he doesn't rejoin Ivana as he did in the comics. Also, unlike the comics Gen 13 actually has 13 members. They rotate time from time. Matthew is forced to be a part to undo the damage he caused working as Ivana's underling. Caitlyn is not his sister, his siblings are Sarah and Nicole as in the comics. Cait and Roxy are half sibs.

Im not sure if I want TFA in the same verse but for the sake of it yes; the year is current but still with the theme of Detroit rebuilding, to go along with Animated's theme of redemption

Jackie Chan Adventures are set in same verse as the 2006 legion of superheroes, the 03 Teen Titans, Xiaolin Showdown, and 2004 Batman.

GI Joe Sigma Six is set in the same verse as TFA.

GI Joe Renegades and Transformers Prime are set in the same verse detached from Sigma Six and TFA.

Universal's Monster Force is set in same verse as JQTRA and Scooby Doo

The 2000s Mummy and Tintin take place in the past; 1930s at the earliest. Bayformers and the live action Joes take place in that timeline's future.

Mummies Alive take place in San Fran and likely set in the future of the Mummy cartoon. It also takes place in the same verse as the 90s King Kong & Godzilla cartoons.

My Descendants rewrite takes place in a world where the heroes never agreed to send villains on the Isle. Instead the isle is simply a mysterious place said to harbor riches beyond legend.

Gargoyles, Atlantis, The Mighty Ducks cartoon, BLOSC, and OUAT takes place in the same verse. BLOSC is set in space and has a ranger from the same planet the Swat Kats come from

Osmosis Jones is in its own solar system based on organic body parts. Its "star" pulses like a heart beat. Sorry but I hate Bill Murray.

Loonatics Unleashed takes place in the same time period of the regular looney tunes; instead of being descendants theyre distant cousins. Acmetropolis is a mega city using Sumdac Tech

Zadavia comes from a planet English translaters describe as Freleng. The common export is energy crystals and its rocky deserts is a haven for geologists and unlucky miners everywhere

The civil war was sparked by General Deuce and Optimatus's betrayal

I've seen Joy mention you here and there so I know you've had a great reputation as a narrator for audio books, but as of today I understand why. I'd sincerely listen to you narrate a phonebook! 100/10 I'm going to have to find other books you've narrated like it's my life's mission!

If I might make a recommendation - apart from Joy's book, which was an utter delight to narrate, may I recommend The Amarna Age series by Kylie Quillinan. I'm 5 books deep into the 6-book series and I am DYING to know how it ends (I get the last book next month, woo, so not long to wait!)

Dark Egyptian fantasy with a side of romance. Kylie is a Wide author so you should be able to find it in libraries, on Chirp, Kobo, Google Play etc. as well as Audible.

And then of course there's the stuff I've narrated that I wrote as well... as both Caitlyn Lynch (contemporary romance) and Catherine Bilson (historical romance)!

The secret alternate ending to the Totino’s Pizza Roll ‘Ask Mom’ commercial. Most of this was shot in twenty minutes after wrap.

Well, we were putting Sam into the flannel space trucker outfit...

So, um, I had an image pop into my head: Sam just out of the shower, flannel clinging damply to his skin...

And I was informed that it was a moral imperative to write it...

So I did.

The steam cleared away, revealing Cait, wrapped in a plain black robe, looking sweet and sleep-mussed. “Darlin’! Thought you were asleep.”

Cait smiled, showing the dimple that practically begged him to press his lips to. “I was,” she said huskily. “Something woke me up.” Her eyes took in his damp hair, then traveled down slowly to linger on the way the damp flannel clung to his skin, finally resting just below waist level. When she finally looked back up at his face, she had a wicked, sultry grin that made his heart skip a beat. “Was hoping that would be you.”

“Were you now?” Sam breathed, admiring the way the robe fell along the curve of her breast. “I was taught that a gentleman never wakes a lady.”

“Mmmm,” she murmured, stepping forward and sliding her hands along the damp flannel. Old as it was, it was just enough to mute her caress to a tease, and it made him shiver a little. “And what if I don’t want you to be a gentleman?” Her hands moved down to the V in his open pants, teasing enticingly at the curls before drifting up.

“Be anything you like, long as you ask nicely,” he offered, letting his voice go low and rough.

Cait put her hands on his shoulders and pressed him back into the bathroom. “Anything? Anything at all?” He fetched up against the sink, hands braced against the counter behind him. “How about… mine?”

“Ah, darlin’,” he groaned. “That’s one’s easy.”

hi guess who finally watched intersect aka "that indie sci-fi flick starring jason spisak as the protagonist"

here is my very professional review:

it's an indie movie, made without a blockbuster budget, presumably by amateurs. it's important to keep that in mind.

and if u do keep it in mind, and give the movie the benefit of the doubt, and look past all the flaws that come from a low budget............... it really isn't a bad movie.

in fact, one could argue it's a good movie. yes, the story is contrived. yes, the acting isn't oscar-worthy. yes, the biggest star is a b-grade dude mostly known for his voice acting. but who cares! i like it, same way i like certain david lynch titles. it has enough charm and passion to it to actually overshadow the flaws for the most part.

funnily enough, i mostly like the part with child actors. because for its scenes set in the more distant past - the movie actually went with child actors. they're stiff, and uncomfortable, and cringey, and i love them. those kids have some bright future ahead of them. especially child nate. he's the worst actor i've ever seen, and he was so unapologetic in his awful performance, he actually made it work.

also i like the characters. obviously the protagonist (jason spisak) is my scrimbly scrimblo blorby little guy. but i also like nate. i like bill. i like caitlyn, even if the only thing she contributes to the plot is "being the protagonist's love interest".

(nate, especially, gets a really good twist during the final 20 minutes. i'm not joking. genuinely made me go "WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".)

and also: i love the depiction of religion as bad. no, really. it's a very shallow, one-dimensional story, and i like it a lot. actually feels validating to see some fucked up christians with no nuance to them. this is literally how these people appear to me.

in conclusion: it's not a bad movie. it's not spectacular either, and i know i wouldn't watch it if not for jason spisak, but overall............... it was a fun watch.
