The sound of breathing and snoring have never sounded more beautiful and relieving in my entire life. I’m a mess. But a relieved mess. I have a whole new outlook, appreciate and gratitude towards life and my mother. Addicts that succumb to their addictions and die, they are someone’s sibling, spouse, child, partner, grandchild, friend, family, loved one, etc. They are not just another number. They are more than their addiction. More than their demons. More than a junkie or a dope fiend. My heart has always gotten heavier with each and every overdoes I hear about, but now, after this has happened. After I almost lost the person I love more than anything. The person that had worked long hours. The person that took my brother and I to Disneyland almost every weekend growing up. To the person that deserves to meet her future grandchildren and have a normal life. Opiates are no joke. Even though that seems like an obvious statement, until something like this happens to you or you witness a loved one die and get brought back... sometimes... makes it that much more real.
