I painted this to commemorate and express the tremendous loss and grief I felt 42 years ago when John Lennon was assassinated. The underlying collage was made of print media such as Time and Rolling Stone magazines, and the dancing figures fall from the sky like a must of tears.
“A Day In The Life” acrylic and collage on canvas, 74”x40” available.

François Hubert Drouais - Portrait of the Marquise d'Aigurande - Clevelandart
Like many French portraitists active during the ancien régime, François-Hubert Drouais was skilled at veiling the physical imperfections of his subjects. This portrait certainly has this quality: the face has been idealized, smoothed, and perfected, but the focus of the painting is less on the Marquise and more on her elegant gown, which is a particularly fine rendering of eighteenth-century printed cloth, with the brilliant gold and white fabric strewn with meticulously detailed flowers and lace.

Seated Female Nude (Self-Portrait?), c. 1899. Paula Modersohn-Becker (German, 1876–1907). Charcoal with stumping; sheet: 62.2 x 33.9 cm (24 1/2 x 13 3/8 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Purchase from the J. H. Wade Fund 1973.35
Although Paula Modersohn-Becker died in 1907, just as the Expressionist groups in Dresden and Munich were forming, the themes of her work prefigure the movement. This likely self-portrait exhibits her desire to convey not the idealized appearance of the female body but rather its fundamental essence, stripped of all the world’s trappings. She distilled the human body into flattened forms—achieved by erasing and blending the charcoal—and abbreviated the delineation of the feet, hands, and face. The sitter’s piercing stare invites the viewer to move beyond the body as flesh and blood toward her emotional or spiritual state.

How diverse is your organization? ✨
.
.
The Cleveland Museum of Art initiated The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plan “to create transformative experiences through art, for the benefit of all the people.” This means not only diversity in art pieces, but artist they represent, the types of programs they run, how and where they will market to prospective and current audiences, and ensuring diversity within board, staff and volunteer committees. I simply love this mission! 💛
