Over the last couple of years, I’ve had the priviledge of judging many open submissions and art prizes. Through doing this, I’ve learnt how you can maximise your chances of success. It seems like such a simple thing to do, but so many applicants get it wrong. You're paying to enter many of these prizes, so getting it right matters. It's not just about having a great piece of artwork. You have to document it accurately and fully fulfil the entry requirements. Check out ASP's top five tips for a successful entry. But remember, judging panels are not perfect; they don’t always pick the best work, just the work they all agree on. It’s @getcreativeuk and #heyclay weekend. Last year as usual was free open day with 60 odd members of enthusiastic public throwing pots at Woodsetton Art Pottery. One massive biological disaster later and so we’re back to basics here at home, Neolithic BBQ firing instead. It’s known to work; the whole of human history is catalogued using potsherds.
