Over the last couple of years, I’ve had the priviledge of judging many open submissions and art prizes. Through doing this, I’ve learnt how you can maximise your chances of success. It seems like such a simple thing to do, but so many applicants get it wrong. You're paying to enter many of these prizes, so getting it right matters. It's not just about having a great piece of artwork. You have to document it accurately and fully fulfil the entry requirements. Check out ASP's top five tips for a successful entry. But remember, judging panels are not perfect; they don’t always pick the best work, just the work they all agree on. On another day, and with a different panel, the results could be different. I am posting these drawings from 2016 as they are tangible products, because I need help with my living expenses - I’ve not been lucky enough to receive emergency funds by submitting to the arts council of England @aceagrams , freelands @freelandsfoundation or artist’s newsletter @anartistsinfo support - so I need to ask you the international viewers if you will buy limited edition giclee prints of them, in uv resistant ink on thick archival paper. Prints in framed from £40 and framed upto £150 ; contact me about which you prefer. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many artists around the world have found themselves without work, teaching, technical support, gallery work, exhibitions and sales have disappeared. ❤️➡️ @artistsupportpledge Developing the conditions to thrive is a challenge for everyone. Having some control of our lives, engagement in meaningful work, and a connected and supportive community are central to the wellbeing of all human societies. Working as an artist in an art-world driven by arbitrary fashions and narratives created by those in power can feel like you have little control of how you make a living and when and where your work is seen. Add to this the constant downgrading of creativity in our educational establishments and the turning of art into mere spectacle and entertainment, can leave your efforts bereft of value. Finally, there is the fragmentation of artistic communities by property development and the insecurity of studio tenancy. Being an artist can feel like you are at the sharp end of individual and social wellbeing. Yet, we do survive and thrive because we are creative and agile in our response. We find intrinsic value in what we do and share that with one another, and we are adaptable to change. In fact, we thrive on the unknown. And, although so much of what we do is solitary, we understand all too well the need to connect, support, and share our efforts. It has been a great pleasure over the last few days to share some of these efforts through the STUDIO IN VIEW posts. Do check them out and contribute your own post to the ASP community.
