Made a Saki pic again in Custom Cast. That's uh, that's it. That's all there is to it, lol. It's October 1st so I just decided to make an autumnn pic with her. I'm aware autumn starts sooner, but it's hot as balls where I live until halfway through October, hence me not making this till now.
Pic edited a tiny bit in gimp.
No simp comments please, this Saki is her 15 year old self! Hence the short hair!

Reaction and a little bit of headcanons!
Also tysm for sending an ask in! If my reqs are ever open, feel free to just go for it ^^ Ik how scary it is to send one in. Especially if the creator has other asks they've been working on, and the paranoia of breaking rules. But you're fine!
Also please correct me if i had gotten anything wrong about Chinese culture. I had only retained some information from a historical accuracy review video and somewhat prior information. Please educate me if you can or like to!
"My, isn't that interesting?" Bi'an walks over and sits next to you, placing his umbrella to the side, "Tell me, how has society progressed through the years? You said your original time was 2023 right?"
You nod, slightly flustered from his sudden interest. Bi'an is suddenly dropped over with a black liquid, and then appears Wujiu, "It seems the rumors are true. Do tell us more Y/n."
Both are ECSTATIC
There were rumors floating around that you were from the future when you first entered. Considering that they're in a manor containing all sorts of supernatural occurrences and people, they weren't all that shocked by it.
Not to say they weren't incredibly curious though! Though Wujiu was more excited than Bi'an hehe.
They talk extensively about you and what the future may hold. What kind of inventions have been made? How have clothing trends changed? Is this person still popular or at least known? How would the people of your time feel about this certain social custom?
What was your daily life? Did anybody give you trouble? Why was this "internet" filled with such strange and quite frankly disturbing content? (Oncler simps /j) Is this why your posture was so bad? Douyin makeup and fashion? Wow they look like dolls! But they amount of product they use in order to attain such a look is quite much sometimes haha.
OH MY GOD THE CHINESE FANTASY/HISTORICAL DRAMAS? They're absolutely entranced by it. Bi'an mostly comments on how historically inaccurate they are, and how outrageous the characters are.
Bi'an: Ah no, this is incorrect as well. The main lady should not be in such fine condition after such a dilemma. I'm surprised she had not been given rags to wear and executed by the emperor instead... What an interesting tale.
Wujiu usually makes passing comments on how they're all attractive, and talks as if he was in the drama itself.
Wujiu: HOLY SHIT IF YOU DON'T JUST FIGHT THIS MISTRESS, WOMAN IM GOING TO DO IT FOR YOU.
Takes everything seriously there 😭 Bi'an has to switch in order to apologize to you and tell Fan he's scaring you.
Since you adorn such simple clothing, they question you about Chinese culture a lot. Had such articles of clothing been lost to time? What traditions are still practiced? Wait, the average are allowed people cut their hair? How shocking! Isn't that disrespectful to their parents? Er, which ruler is in charge of the north now?
Once you tell them all of the things that connect you to your chinese heritage, they will try and do EVERYTHING you used to do.
New Year's was it? Ah they have been on a westerners calendar for a while, so they have not been up to date. Well, this calls for special red envelopes and beautiful clothing does it not?
Adorns you only in the most beautiful traditional clothing. Hanfu's are flowy and can be quite modest, but Qipao's can be intricate and beautifully simple. Oh but you could also wear a Tangzhuang. Matching with them, what a dream come true! So cute you are... Agh, they just can't pick! Why do you have to be so beautiful?
They are also surprised by how modern traditional clothing has become. Clothing like that would've been years worth of salary for the average man! How lucky you are to be able to wear such things for a price.
Although they doll you up and celebrate with you, you aren't allowed to do anything more than to stay with them and obey the usual rules during all of it.
Damn, you don't even get anything of real material value in the red envelope. It's a love letter and a small gift. Usually jewelry or something of that minimal sort. (The gift is meaningless to you as you receive all kinds of unwanted things from them 24/7)
They are glad you are of the same ethnic background of them! You both may have not been from the same place or time, but you two both have a personal understanding of each other's identity.
Partaking in various conversations about culture, technology, celebrating traditions, partially speaking in similar language... All and more of these things have them head over heels for you.
You're just perfect! How could they ever have been so lucky to encounter someone like you in this afterlife? Although they wish not to have experienced such past hardships, they're glad all of that had amounted to this moment.
It thrills them to know that they understand you more than anyone else in this manor. No one else could spend time and appreciate you like this here. It's only them who can truly make you feel at home. A home with them. Your lovers.
Perhaps being in this wretched manor has brought something worthwhile after all. Even if they don't win, at least they have something they can bring back with them.

1. Let's say a noble used a blessing with ice powers (just like in the caravan attack back then), can we melt that ice and drink from its water? My point is that, was anything from those blessed treasures deadly or can we use them to provide for the living.
2. Is the Archpriestess as powerful as the Earth's Pope in terms of influence? Like they can call some Teutonic order stuff if they wanted to?
3. You said that the nobility was slowly losing their blessing, what will happen to them socially if they lost their blessed status?
4. How much anime physics and logic will you use in this story?
5. Can we expect the existence of Chinese qipao here?
Tumblr media
First off, great questions!
I'm really happy you asked this. Besides it being a gross misuse of their power, you absolutely can. There's beneficial relics that offer such alternatives to their use.
2) The office of Archpriestess theoretically has more power than any of our earth's popes at any time in history. The reason being that a large majority of the continent is unified, shares similar societal customs and the like, and allows for the church to spread unopposed by the empire itself as it provides numerous benefits to the citizenry and local governments. This means that the Archpriestess has significant sway over the continent's populace, and has authority to use the Templars, who also have a sizable contingent of warriors using Blessings. HOWEVER, that power and influence has never been used, only threatened with.
3) They'll just be thought to be bastards, untrue successors to their ancestors.
4) High Combat MC will get the bullshit rule of cool stuff while mid and low Combat MCs have to face the realistic warfare scenes and struggle lol.
5) No, im focused more on the Chinese Dynasties of Han to Song, with all inbetween. The qipao is Qing Dynasty.

every Met Gala I voluntarily press a link, expose my eyes to some of the worst fashion decisions made in this century, stare at those atrocities, close the tab, and go back to pondering simpler times, such was when women wore bonnets, twelve-year-old girls didn't even THINK about the word 'makeup' because it wasn't in their vocabulary, cravats were in style, survival was more important than fashion, cloth was hand-dyed, or when my great-grandmother hand-sewed her own custom-made qipaos because she could, and looked more splendid in them than any shiny model on a magazine

In wuxia I see that they have half their hair up and the other half down. Is there a certain period where this hairstyle directs from?
Hi, thanks for the question, and sorry for taking ages to reply!
The half-up, half-down hairstyle that you often see on both male & female characters in Chinese guzhuang (period costume) dramas is not based on historical hairstyles. Rather, it is a fairly recent styling convention, most likely originating from late 20th century wuxia TV shows from Hong Kong (x). Over time the hairstyle has become normalized and commonplace in Chinese costume dramas, especially in the wuxia and xianxia genres (because these genres are not necessarily aiming for historical accuracy in the first place).
Below, from left to right: Wang Hedi in Love Between Fairy and Devil, Deng Wei in Miss the Dragon, Xiao Zhan in The Untamed, Gong Jun in Word of Honor:
Tumblr media
As @niteshade925 explains in this post, for male characters, the main idea of the hairstyle is to make the character look attractive, and also in some shows/context, to hint at the character’s personality, as in maybe they do not adhere to traditional customs and are free-spirited/spontaneous. For female characters, it is usually just a regular hairstyle without deeper meaning :P
For more information on this half-up half-down hairstyle, and historical hairstyles in general, please see the following posts:

Hope this helps!

Dior Mamianqun Controversy
I received the following message via chat from a follower, that I would like to share here:
Hi, 小紫, do you know that Dior appropriates the modernized mamianqun designed by some hanfu brands in china? link of discussion about Dior 2022 A/W show on weibo: https://weibo.com/6323095999/LChcJyPTa?refer_flag=1001030103_&type=repost#_rnd1657858224778 , I think Dior indeed directly referenced the structure of how it's pleated and inner cutouts of mamianqun which has a long history dated back to ming dynasty and influenced the shape of qing dynasty skirts as well, it is sussy, look how the DIOR model turned around when the skirt spread to reveal the split style, this is indeed the unique inner structure of mamianqun, a more rigorous examination requires DIOR to show the flat design, but Dior is not responding, it claims on the official website that this is their exclusive style launched this year, yet the same style of mamianqun has been prevalent among young people in China for several years, there are several taobao stores making exactly this kind of modernized mamianqun since 2018 or even early (metal leather buckle belt + fabric suitable for autumn and winter + long skirts), such as 四时景, 你好美荔, etc., I don't know how to make it an anonymous ask for you to post my question but I would like to listen to your and other followers' comments on this, thank you 小紫(also feel totally free not to post this one, it's your blog and you make the call ❤️

Hi! I'm really fond of researching about hanfu and its history, and I found a lot of interesting information on this blog. But I can't help it and keep wondering about the reason for qipao/cheongsang not be considered a hanfu? When I researched about it the most common argument is the Manchu influence on it. However, there are a plenty of hanfu styles that were influenced by other cultures. Is there a more especific reason for not consider the qipao?
Hi, thanks for the question, and glad you like my blog! (x)
Tumblr media
I want to start off with an important disclaimer:
The term “hanfu” as we use it today (defined as “traditional Han Chinese clothing”) does not have the exact same meaning as when it was used historically. As @audreydoeskaren explains in this post, “while it is true that the term “hanfu” was used in some historical texts, they were often used in opposition to clothing worn by foreign peoples...and not as a standalone term”. Today, there is no central organizing body or law that states exactly what is & what is not considered hanfu. Rather, such categorization is done by the members of the hanfu community - and the hanfu community is not a monolith. Ever since its inception in 2003, the hanfu revival movement has been a grassroots, bottom-up movement with members of various backgrounds, ideologies, and opinions. It is a movement that is built upon, and driven forward by, constant dialogue and debate among its members. Thus the question of what garments are considered hanfu is under continuous discussion, and is subject to the hanfu community’s views and ideas on culture, clothing, and history.

What exactly does Dunhuang style mean?
Hi, thanks for the question! (x)
Tumblr media
Dunhuang/敦煌 style refers to the art, fashion, and culture depicted in the Dunhuang Murals/敦煌壁画 of China, which are located in the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, Gansu Province. From the 4th to 14th century, the caves were constructed by Buddhist monks to serve as shrines with funds from donors. These caves were elaborately painted, the cave paintings and architecture serving as aids to meditation, visual representations of the quest for enlightenment, and teaching tools for Buddhist beliefs and stories. The major caves were sponsored by patrons such as important clergy, local ruling elite, foreign dignitaries, as well as Chinese emperors (x). Below - painting from the Dunhuang Murals (x):

i think for a lot of us, relationships and ~weddings~ with our 2D boys and gals and nbs would be multicultural and i really really think that’s wonderful and beautiful
for eg you’re south Asian right? imagine ur wedding. bakugou insists on having as many wardrobe changes as you at your wedding so you’re always matching … his mom spends years!!!!!!!!!! before the wedding (she knows you’re the one for her son the moment she sees you two interact) with a mentor studying your cultural fashion so she can ask you (as if you wouldn’t have asked her personally!!!) for the honor of designing one of your outfits… maybe with a lil Japanese twist to show the union of two cultures… beautiful. whatever she can do to make the person who caught her son’s eye feel welcome. i hate it when his parents are written as standoffish and rude like where was that even implied... anyway his father and mother (and bkg himself ofc) wear your cultural clothes with pride at your wedding and you know what they’d design bespoke Japanese cultural outfits for every member of your family too.
i’m Chinese and i like to think of how our families would interact and bridge the cultural gap too. a union, not a division. what would your family do to make the bakugou’s feel welcome and included? mine would do the Chinese tea ceremony in English/have a translator and would include Japanese tea as well. they’d be invited every lunar new year and given red packets oranges and we’d teach them the phrases in mandarin (what i learned in school) and Cantonese (my family’s dialect) during the mooncake festival we would teach the bakugou’s how to make mooncakes. his parents would make us custom mooncake tins as a gift. for wedding’s (there would have to be two ceremonies) we’d do photoshoots in both sets of cultural outfits as well. i like to think both sets of parents would cook for each other. my traditional Chinese mother would look lovely in a kimono and i know mitsuki would kill it in a qipao. sorry for the word vomit. what about you, fang? if you’re up for it, tell about me you and/or your multicultural interactions w the bakugous 💕
waaaah this so so cute :(( im going to pass away at the thought... i do often think about the way like. our cultures would interact mostly bc its hard not too. but the idea of their parents designing my wedding saree is making me feel sick in the best way. or just the general cross of cultural attire like waaaahhhhhhh
THE TEA CEREMONY.....HOW SWEET IS THAT. hearing all the little details of ur cultural exchange is simply making me cry and weep. the romance of custom mooncake tins.... i cant even imagine. i am not too informed on any specific aspects of chinese culture but the details u have provided r so vivid i feel like i can see it so very clearly and i love it?? like im crying. the translator detail is very adorable to me as well fdkjkjfdvd like im </333333
ive thought pretty indepth about it..!! i think it'd also have to be a two ceremony thing. i think bakugou would probably get very excited to watch me get my mendhi done so he can search for his name in it </3 i think he's probably the most excited about the part where everyone comes to put holud / turmeric on us and feed us sweets. like desi weddings r v complicated so he's kind of excited by how elaborate it all is..... im so </3

Sorry to bother you with this, but I have a question since you seem to me as someone in this community who always has great answers and tips and custom content as well! So yes, my question is, do you maybe know where I can download Middle East/Asian-like clothes for men and women? Some nice looking ones with higher quality since some of the clothes I found are very old 🙁
Sadly I'm wrong person to ask this since I only have very few East/Asian looking things but uh....
First one that came to my mind is Yuxi, she had gorgeous things and few Asian inspired too, you can find her downloads here. Especially check from under the clothes and GoS Events folders.
Michelle Borgia's blog, their whole aesthetic is Asian. Also likely the person you'd want to send your WCIF if that's the kind of content you're after. For more modern Asian stuff try Katsurin, especially if you enjoy Lolita aesthetic or school uniforms.
I also found this wiki which lists a tons of historical Asian clothes: https://historicalsims2.fandom.com/wiki/Historical_Asian (but prepare for a tons of broken links) and of course if you're looking for more modern things then that one's not much help.
Sims 3to2 database has section for World Adventures (which included China) and store sets such as: Dreams of India, Street Couture (which is more modern stuff) Itadakimasu! (Japanese restaurant stuff) Zen Again & Imperial Bedroom Zen (Asian inspired furniture) Japanese Inspired Living (more furniture) India Inspirations (furniture, hair, clothes) and I think that's all of them.
Plumb Bob Keep might have something useful but again it's more historical content so if you want modern stuff it might not be helpful.
Last two, there's TS2 Theme CC Server Discord (click the link for invite) they have section for Asian Fantasy. Might not be the kind of stuff you're after but if you don't mind things not being accurate those are at least really pretty :D and then there's TS2 CAS CC Finds discord which has section for Asian. Both links expire in 7 days apparently.
Also: While I don't mind WCIFs I'd prefer them to ask about content I actually use in my game instead of random ones like this. Asking me for extremely specifically themed stuff feels a little bit pointless when there are people who actually concentrate on such content and make it their whole aesthetic. I'm not saying this to be rude, but you know, you'll get better answers from people who are more familiar with that sort of content than me who dresses my sims as casually as it gets.
Edit:
princesspiratecat said:
Shannanisims did some traditional Chinese gowns, called a Qui- Po or Cheong-Sam. (I hope I spelled that right, lol.)
I think it's spelled Qipao? While trying to find link to Shannanisims (since the only shannanisims I found on tumblr makes Sims 4 content) I stumbled upon this pinterest board with some more Asian content though which might be useful for anon. On which topic, try looking through pinterest searching for Sims 2 Asian, Asia, Japan, China, India and any other related word you can think of.

Of Fox and Men
Summary: MK meets an old friend again, making a certain someone jealous
The sign of the noodle shop lit up and inside, Pigsy rang the bell as he called out for MK. "Order up! Kid!"
"On it Pigsy!" MK responded as she placed the bag of noodles in the cooler as she got her phone out to get towards the place of the person who ordered it. MK then puts on het headphones and drives around in the tuk-tuk. When she arrived, the person of the home opened the door as the brunette greeted them sweetly "Pigsy's Noodles!"
"Aww," Cooed a middle aged woman, her teenage daughter standing next to her. "Thank you dearest~"
MK nodded, "Have a nice day madam!"
Soon enough, every order had been delivered, and she were about to cross the bridge that lead back to the shop, when a delicious aroma caught her attention.
"Mmm~ break time!~" MK smiled and  parks the Tuk-Tuk in front of a bakery. The neon lights reading "Sweet Ming's Bakery"
The door was heard opening and then closing. The owner smirked as she looked to see her most frequent customer.
"Why, if it isn't everyone's favorite heroine. Hello there MK." The lady greeted.
The owner is a middle aged woman with smooth tanned skin, dark ebony hair that's held together with two needle pins, dark blue eyes, wearing a red qipao dress with white sparkle designs, yellow buttons, black leggings and black heels.
"Good morning, Miss Ming!" MK greeted. "Your looking lovely and dandy as usual!" She smiled.
"My, aren't you a little charmer, Has that overstuffed swine finally let you off today?" Ming chucked, leaning on the wooden counter.
MK chuckled nervously. Okay, let's say her and Pigsy don't really get along so well, then being both chefs and all.
"Oh I was just finishing my deliveries and stopped by to see my favorite chef of all time!! Don't tell Pigsy I said that...." She muttered the last part. "Anyway, I was kinda hoping for my favorite dessert today."
"Of course sweetie, anything for my favorite customer." Ming smiled sweetly before clearing her throat. "CHEN! I NEED PICKUP #3, STAT!!" She yelled, startling MK a bit.
Okaaayyy....Maybe she isn't really all that sweet.
"Coming Auntie!" A male's voice called out hurriedly, the back door of the bakery opens and out comes a young man carrying tons of boxes.
He has short black, shaggy hair, ivory skin, grey eyes, has beauty mark on the right side of his face, a cut on his left eyebrow. He seems to be MK's height.
He's wearing a black shirt over a dark red jacket, dark blue pants and grey shoes with white soles.
"Look out, coming throu-Aaahhhh!!" He yelped as his foot slipped on a puddle, stumbling and falling over. MK couldn't help but wince at the sight.
Miss Ming sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. "That's coming out of you're paycheck, boy! Morgan, I thought I told you to clean up in here..!" She went into the back of the kitchen, leaving the two alone.
"Hey, are you okay?" MK asked, helping him up, picking up the discard boxes, luckily the goods were still attached. Chen sighed and dusted himself off. "Yeah, yeah I'm okay, I'm-" He stopped mid sentence as he gazed upon MK, as if he recognized her.
"...Xiaotian?..."
"....Chen?..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Wait a second, are you sure it's the same guy?"
Back at the shop, MK was cleaning up, actually cleaning!
"Yeah Mei, I couldn't believe I myself! Who knew the guy we went to kindergarten with, is the guy we both love, music wise I mean!" She squealed in excitement, scrolling through her phone, looking through his music playlist.
She pressed the 'play button' playing one of his songs.
youtube
MK sighed lovingly,holding her phone to her chest. "He has the most beautiful singing voice I ever heard."
However the dragon girl wasn't all that convinced, "Really? I mean Master Chen is my favorite artist too, but I doubt it's the same guy." Mei said, shrugging her shoulders.
Ding!
The bell on the door rang as someone entered the shop. "Hello? Are you open?" A male's voice asked.
Mei turned around to greet the person. "Oh c'mon...in?"' Her eyes widened, her mouth gaped at who was in front of her.
It was him, Master Chen!
Mei squeaked in excitement, stars in her eyes and went up to greet him. "Ohmygosh!! It's you, As in my favorite artist, Master Chen!" She exclaimed, all in his face. "I have all your albums." She holds up on of his hits.
Tumblr media
Chen blinked in surprise but grinned, nervously. "Oh, why thank you. It's still a work in progress though. You must be Mei, MK's famous dragon rider gal pal."
Mei gasped, stars in her eyes. "You know me?"
"Know you? Girl please, I watched you on Tv during The Great Wall Race," He took her hands, smiling bashfully. "You're amazing!!"
Mei chuckled nervously, a little blush on her face. "Eheheh..."
He then remembered why he came. "Oh yeah, I'm here for a pickup." He said.
Mei perked up. "You got it! Here she is, my gal pal, MK!" Mei grabbed MK's hand and brought her over to her side, making her yelp.
MK gulped, sweating a bit all nervous. "Uh, Hey Chen...?" She waved, her voice all shakily.
"Hey MK, I'm here for my pickup!" He takes the bag of noodles in his hands. "And i was wondering...if you're doing with work I'd thought we'd hang out today?" He asked.
MK gasped, "Really, sure! I'd love too!" MK whimpered, bouncing up and down in excitement.
This has got to be the best day that happening to her, nothing could possibly ruin this.
Neither of them failed to notice that someone has been spying and listening to their conversation.
Ironclad, one of Red Son's Bull clones who was listening in quietly made their way out of the shop and onto the rooftop, where Red Son stood.
Ironclad told Red Son about everything that just happened. He stood there eyes widened, a shocked/worried look on his face.
What?
MK, his girlfriend, was hanging out with someone else, another guy! Why!? Was he not suddenly good enough for her.
Was she...cheating on him?
The fire demon shook his head at the ridiculous thought, Never! MK would never do such a thing.
Tumblr media
"Some pretty boy dares to touch what is mine!?" He yelled angrily, clenching his fist, fangs baring as his hair caught on fire.
He'll get to the bottom of this, one way or another.
Cause any demon, or pathetic mortal knows you don't mess with one's courting partner.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Later, At the park While Chen and MK were sitting together, having a conversation. Red Son was hiding behind a tree, watching the two through a pair of binoculars. Grinning, the fire demon fired a blow-dart at them, hitting MK's hand.
"Ow!" She winced, lifted her hand up. "A bee must have stung me."
"Here, let me pull that out." Chen carefully took the blow-dart out, then flicked it to the side, unknowingly striking where Red Son was hiding.
"Aaaahhh!" The fire demon yelled when the blow-dart hit him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In his next attempt, Red Son spotted the two talking, he couldn't quite hear what they were saying but he waved his hands around igniting blue flames within his hands.
By the looks of it she was dazzled by it.
"Big deal, I can do that too." The raging demon huffed, he then blinked in surprise when the ebony haired guy summoned an spirit.
A small fox spirit.
"Aww, it's so cute!!!" She cooed, cradling the small creature in her arms.
Growling, Red Son started lowering a spider down like a yo-yo to the 'couple'; But on the way down, He noticed that the spider had vanished.
"What the?" He glanced at his sleeve to see the spider on him, Then it bit him.
"Ow!" He screamed in pain, flailing his arms around, then he lost his footing and fell into a dumpster.
"Did you hear something?" Chen asked, looking around. "I don't think so." MK answered, they continued talking and MK petting the small avatar spirit.
"Ugh," Red Son groaned, as he was covering in dirt and filth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Next, Red Son threw a hive at the two but the bees hovered behind them like a cloud. His widened upon hearing buzzing, before they chased him away.
That night, he tried yet again, Red Son had several bee stings, a black eye, and a missing tooth from the incident.
This time he's gonna match up to her workplace. On his way there he had a bouquet of flowers in his hand with a determinate look his face.
He's going to win back his girlfriend.
He then heard noises, he hid somewhere in an alleyway near her boss's noodle shop, where he spotted MK and the pretty boy again, they looked pretty beaten up.
The Bull prince listened in on their conversation.
"Thank you so much, MK! Honestly I-I can't thank you enough." Chen said happily, taking her hands in his.
"Hey it's fine, I'm just glad everything is back to normal." She sighed in relief. Chen then hummed, getting an idea.
"Say, I'm going to be live at the park in a few hours, how would you like to accompany me?" He asked.
She gasped, nodding frantically. "Really!! Yes! I'd love too."
Unknowingly that Red Son had been listening, his head hang low, lip quivering and clenched his fist. He can practically hear his heart shattering.
Tumblr media
He couldn't believe it, he just lost the woman he loved to someone else, and what's worse...He's a damn Huli-Jing.
Red Son then walked away, broken and defeated, tossing the bouquet away in a nearby trash can.
To Be Continued

⚠️ Long post as usual. ⚠️
I repeat again, I’m senior 3D designer who used to work in video game company, now in field similar to video game (I don’t want to reveal my current real life work due to privacy), it’s my job to analyze game content. Gamer for many video game titles and customer for EA (Electronic Arts) since The Sims 1. English is not my first language.
Continuation from post:
EA Misinterpretation About China And Chinese Culture About Shang Simla World
Reply About Somebody Asked About Chinese Clothing And Accuracy About Shang Simla Clothing
EA Maxis Studio Is In San Francisco That Is Heavy Chinese Population And Has Shanghai Headquarters But Didn’t Know What Chinese Gate Looks Like And More Information About Manchu Queue Hair, Dragon Cave, Obscure “Chopsticks” Holder Clutter
Yes, I’m planning to write formal letter to EA. Not just about Shang Simla inaccuracies, but ALL. How low quality The Sims 3 and The Sims 4 despite the developer has already earned massive profits from The Sims franchise titles 1,2,3,4. So far, EA has been developing The Sims 5.
Tumblr media
@murfeelee
No, actually EA Maxis Studio made the content based on stereotypes 😜All countries: Al Simhara, Champ Les Sims, Shang Simla are modern times at village. Sims in their hometown (present time) travel to the three countries immediately (logically by plane). No time machine portal to ancient times. Logically, the three countries are in modern times, right?
Tumblr media
There's ancient Egyptian hair for Al Simhara. Very far B.C years. Must be because the famous “Cleopatra” stereotype. Obviously not recent historical period before modern times.
And there are modern hairstyles and clothing for Champs Les Sims. France is stereotypically associated with “high fashion” & “romantic”. Definitely not year 1900-1920.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite the place Champs Les Sims taking place at village, far away from Paris city.
Conclusion?
The designers must be picking what stereotypes of the countries came in their mind first. They obviously didn’t consult or research about the history what dynasty or time period about the item they created for the game.
Where is Napoleon reference?
I demand Napoleon hat, costume, French Revolution Era, Medieval clothing, mime clothing, but there are none in Champs Les Sims.
Tumblr media
France is Western country located in Europe, the closest thing U.S.A. and Western people in general can relate, so I can understand why the portrayal of France is modern. No weird controversial historical content or major inaccuracies/wrong portrayal.
I watched Youtube virtual tour about France village. Champs Les Sims resident houses look like real resident houses in real life.
Champs Les Sims has correct icon symbol, it’s Eiffel Tower. It has hidden Eiffel Tower that player can access in Buy Debug mode.
Champs Les Sims has four local dishes. (Cheese Plate, Bouillabaisse, Frog Legs, Crepes, indeed correct French Cuisine). Shang Simla and Al Simhara only has 2 local dishes, both are not correct and not authentic.
“World Adventures” There is obvious dangerous & action element in Al Simhara (Tomb, torch, mummy), Shang Simla (Martial Arts), then what is so dangerous & action in Champs Les Sims?
Making wine?
Collecting fruits to create wine (EA censor it as Nectar) is adventure? 🤣
There are so many countries which better candidates for adventures setting. I prefer Russia (Yeah, because everything associated with Russia is “Strong & Dangerous“ such as cold climate, espionage, military, vodka, missile, tank, ever launched astronaut to space, Chernobyl). But because it’s EA who wants European country that is more famous internationally, fit for casual gamers and has selling points, I can understand why they prefer France instead of others.
Back to your argument again
Tumblr media
If you said Manchu queue hairstyle is chosen because it’s recent time period before modern times, why EA designers included “all time period” to Shang Simla? There is Hanfu, there is traditional Tang, there is modernised Qipao. Hanfu is from many many Dynasties way back before Qing Dynasty.
Tumblr media
Years 1912 onwards, Chinese men have short hair.
Tumblr media
Double braids were popular for Chinese women at that time.
Manchu queue/braid hairstyle is chosen because of stereotypes about Chinese men in USA country. Historically because first immigrants of Chinese men came to work in USA having queue hairstyle. They retained the queue/braid hairstyles because of under Qing Dynasty’s Manchurian rule. History of Chinese American.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I doubt the designers in EA Maxis studio ever know what dynasty or what period queue hairstyle belongs to. If only they did research and consult to actual Chinese people (at least did effort ask to Ayi & Shushu who are Chinese elder women and men who are shop owners in San Francisco’s Chinatown nearby their EA’s Maxis Studio for 51 minutes by car or asking their own employees in Shanghai Headquarters), the Chinese people will strongly suggest popular hairstyles by celebrities and long haired with bun for ancient times. They would tell the EA designers why Qing’s queue/braid was very painful historically.
Why are many Chinese people disgusted with the Qing Dynasty? (Quora answer)
Tumblr media
Western equivalent must be Adolf Hitler/Nazi/Holocaust-related something.  If EA Maxis released Nazi-related moustache/costume, I bet somebody complained to EA on Sims forum for being “insensitive’.
The designers would say sorry and chose to not include Queue/braid hair in-game, but instead, ancient long hair with bun.
Jay Chou, Andy Lau, F4. They are idol superstars known by Chinese people, were very popular in year 2000′s.
Tumblr media
Must be argument again, “But Shang Simla is supposed to take place at village! The “emo” hairstyles are too modern Western & Japanese! Not Chinese enough! Blah blah blah”
Relax alright...have some entertainment. Because in reality, I bet actual Chinese people in year 2009 would answer like that. (When I was in college year 2009, I had emo haircut similar to Jay Chou! 🤣 ) The fact that China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the people are modern not too different than France, U.S.A or any Western countries. Not stuck in the past having ancient hair.
I already answered in my previous post. The usual Chinese men hair either: 1) Short hair for modern times  2) Long hair with bun for ancient times (for traditional style, usable for storytelling purpose taking in ancient times especially for Chinese Simmers)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ordinary farmers in China with very short hairstyles.
Tumblr media
That’s it. Perfect for in-game local Shang Simla Sims, alright. The Sims game needs a lot of varieties for short haircut for Male Sim, because it’s very lacking real ordinary men hair, others are too fancy/girly/weird male haircut and female hairstyles. Hats and weird hairstyles are not really usable in-game. Who the hell uses “Queue/braid hairstyle” anyway?
Tumblr media
I’m not talking about painful history, but technically, this kind of “weird” and “ugly” hairstyle will not be used by general Sims players worldwide.
Tumblr media
Too many hats...
”Straw Hats“ must be stereotype about Asian people by Western people. Asian in general, not just China. Wearing Straw Hats while planting rice plant at paddy field looks very “exotic” and “very Asian” in Western people’s eyes.
In real life at Chinese village, there are farmers wearing straw hats. But technically in-game, they are taking too much space in catalog and not reusable. Who else creating Sims with straw hats? Probably almost none. Very rare occasion such as my Sim wearing straw hat only to commemorate World’s Food Day just for once and using EA’s content that never been used. After that, never been used at all.
Except you want to make your Sim cosplaying as Raiden from Mortal Kombat. I doubt majority Sims players worldwide big fan of Raiden and will make use of straw hats in-game.
Tumblr media
 It’s supposed CC creators for creating specific hats for specific use, not game developer.
There are Inaccuracies in Al Simhara, Egypt world. Not just Shang Simla.
Snake charming with the shape of flute and basket is obviously from India.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know because I read a lot of encyclopedias when I was kid way before internet. When I first seeing trailer for “Al Simhara” in year 2009, I was confused. Why EA added snake charming for Egypt world? That is from India.
Al Simhara local foods are Shawarma & Falafel, which are Middle Eastern cuisine.
Egypt is different country in North Africa with separate culture, then do not mix them with India, Arab and other Middle Eastern countries. Yes actually Shawarma & Falafel are exist in Egypt (spread from Arab) but there are more dishes that are more authentic in Egypt.
Egypt’s national dish is Koshary.
List of Egyptian dishes:
Foul Mudammas/Medames and Taameya (Fava Beans Stew and Falafel)
Koshary (Mixture of Rice, Macaroni, and Lentils)
Hamam Mahshi (Stuffed Pigeons)
Tarb (Grilled Kofta Wrapped in Lamb Fat)
Molokhiya (Jute Soup)
Halabesa (Chickpea Soup / Drink)
Mahshy (Stuffed Veggies)
Kawaree (Cow Feet)
Hawawshi (Meat Sandwich)
Macarona Bechamel (Egyptian Baked Pasta)
Feseekh (Fermented, Salted, and Dried Fish)
Feteer (Egyptian Pie)
Akawi (Ox Tail)
Keshk (Savory Pudding)
Katayef (Mini Pancakes)
Egyptian Sobia Drink
Om Ali (Egyptian Bread Pudding)
Konafa
Medalaa (The Spoiled Girl Dessert)
Meshabek (Egyptian Funnel Cake)
Must be too foreign/never heard before for general Westerners & USA people, so I can understand EA chose Shawarma & Falafel that are more famous and sold in Western country while they are actually Middle Eastern dishes.
Tumblr media
Yeah, how disappointing. I bet EA’s Maxis employees must have ever eaten Chinese food in Chinatown, probably the cheap ones 🤣 all-you-can-eat buffet style, westernized, not authentic, and be served Fortune Cookies. No wonder the food portrayal in Shang Simla looks like that. There must be a lot of Chinese people that they can ask for interview and they can see actual big Chinese gate. Very very different shape from Japanese Torii Gate, that elementary school kid can tell the difference. *facepalm*
Tumblr media
I understand you like Wuxia/ancient fictional settings, but please be logical & rational. The worlds (Shang Simla, Champs Les Sims, Al Simhara) are in modern times but at village. If you say “ancient fictional” then it should be separate game, not together in the same timeline as The Sims. Example: The Sims Medieval is standalone game, not Expansion Pack. The game takes place in European Medieval ancient times.
Tumblr media
The better idea is, made by other game developer, not EA.
Game developer from the country origin itself, from China (Everstone Games) You must be heard When Winds Meet which trailer was out late August. The settings are Wuxia during the beginning of the Northern Song Dynasty. Looks very Assassin’s Creed-like. I used to wishing there’s Assassin’s Creed taking place in ancient China but can’t expect Ubisoft or any Western game developer to make it.
Tumblr media
EA’s idea of “World Adventures” taking place in real life actually great idea, original for The Sims game, but bad at execution. The only EA’s fault that they did not do research and consult to the person who is expertise and definitely lacking real life resources. China is actually suitable country for “Adventure” because of rich culture and fortune, which are very blended well with the game.
Argue again that “The Sims 3 World Adventure was released in 2009, there’s not enough Chinese exposure in USA/West/etc at that time...?”
There’s no way “not enough exposure” while you can see Chinese ethnic are everywhere and migrated to almost all countries. Biggest human population is in China country. Biggest population Chinese ethnic outside China/Taiwan/Hongkong is in Southeast Asia region (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand). Visit websites that show counts how many population of Chinese ethnic in USA, Canada, Australia, that’s quite high too. If anyone with this question, don’t forget that The Sims 3 game is sold in Taiwan, Hongkong, China too.
I’m talking about corporate/professional level, not amateur free custom content creator. If big corporate wanted to do portrayal about other countries, then do some serious research and ask the experts, as they clearly have the budget and resources.
Many video game titles taking place in real life countries, able to portray them well due to effort they did on research and consultation to the person originated from real life countries.
Take an example from Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. Developer: Naughty Dog. The game was released in 1998 (when I was kid). Game levels taking place in several countries and obvious ancient time machine portal.
I can tell you whoever taking charge in designing Crash Bandicoot did research very well. Even thought the game theme is cartoon and fictional. The dragon, colour, Great Wall, Chinese writing 《萬里長城》 on banner, music, sound effects, everything are very good. NPCs wearing hanfu, long hair with bun, no Manchu queue braid hairstyle, no straw hats.
Crash Bandicoot 3: Orient Express (1998)
Tumblr media
The dragon colour is yellow and blue. That is correct. Good portrayal for old game released in 1998.
Crash Bandicoot 3: Orient Express (Remastered version)
Tumblr media
The dragon was updated with actual Chinese dragon design. The colour is right: Orange, yellow, blue, green.
The colour of Great Wall floor is jade green colour, which the colour meaning is prosperity and good luck in Chinese culture.
Compared to EA’s Maxis Shang Simla:
Tumblr media
Had EA’s Maxis employees ever seen actual Chinese dragon statue??
Red is not suitable for statue at all, especially the statue for fountain!  Really hot in the eyes (I speak this as designer). 🔥🔥
Tumblr media
Red is lucky colour in Chinese culture, but not for the dragon. Chinese dragon brings luck and prosperous. The sculpture is usually colorful: Yellow (symbolizing gold for fortune), green, orange, sometimes blue.
Chinese dragon fountain (Google search in English language)
“Dragon cave” statue does exist in China and other Southeast Asian countries that have big Chinese population. Definitely not like EA’s Shang Simla.
Yellow Dragon Cave, Zhejiang, China.
Tumblr media
Cave entrance at Guilin, Guangxi, China.
Tumblr media
Dragon tunnel at Yong Peng, Johor, Malaysia.
Tumblr media
Kwan Sing Bio Temple, Tuban, East Java, Indonesia.
Tumblr media
Dragon Tiger Pagoda, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Tumblr media
The dragons are colourful.
Disney’s Mulan animated movie (1998). Portraying men’s hairstyles with bun. No random Manchu queue braid hairstyles.
Tumblr media
EA’s other version of The Sims actually can portray authentic Chinese culture: The Sims Freeplay
Because it’s made by Firemonkeys Studio, mobile game developer based in Australia. Not Maxis from San Francisco, USA.
// Youtube Link 1  //   Youtube Link 2 //
Don’t forget Sims Freeplay has Chinese New Year Update. I can say the portrayal is accurate. The clothing (modernized Qipao, Tang, have pattern, good design), Lantern has details, there’s Lion Dance with loud attraction music, Hong Bao (Red Envelope), Hong Bao tree, Chinese candies, decorations related to Chinese New Year (oranges), Sims can sit and pray in front of table with food offerings.
I can relate to this, very true to real life in modern times, no matter live in big city or at village. Definitely cannot feel the same for TS3 World Adventures Shang Simla.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eating animation is much better. Sims use both hands knife and fork, not too stiff unlike The Sims 2,3,4 for PC.
Tumblr media
Back to Maxis again.
The Sims 4 “Chinese” food from City Living Expansion Pack (I can smell Maxis employees eating cheap, westernized, not authentic “Chinese” food. Typical American Chinese food.)  There’s Fortune Cookies aka American cookies on food stall logo.
Chinese food is far more variable not just sour-and-sweet something. No Peking Roast Duck? Chicken Feet? Stinky Tofu? Char Siu? Crispy Pork Belly?  Wonton soup? Noodles? Then not authentic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those are Spring Rolls (春捲), not Egg Rolls.
Furthermore, Spring Rolls are more popular in Southeast Asian countries rather than China itself.
Genshin Impact,  game developer from China.
Egg Rolls are these. Literally EGG ROLLS.
Simplified Chinese characters used in China:
蛋 =  dàn  (egg)      卷 = juǎn  (rolls)    Egg rolls can be thin biscuit and omelette.
Furthermore, the same Egg Rolls in Japanese: Tamagoyaki. Since Genshin is more into Japanese culture. The food recipes are mostly Japanese.
Tumblr media
Genshin has anime cartoon stylized aesthetic. The texture and details (especially the food) are much better than TS4.
More Additional Information (Read More):
Chinese New Year Greetings made by China people themselves. The boy and girl illustrations are stereotyped as well. Both wears modernized Qipao and Tang inherited from Qing Dynasty. The girl usually has double buns. The boy wears hat. Notice the boy usually has short haircut. No Manchu queue/braid hairstyle.
Tumblr media
Now you can understand why no Chinese CC creators create Manchu Queue/Braid hair, many of them created long hair with bun as original ancient Han Chinese men’s hairstyles before Qing Dynasty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shawarma is delicious, but it is Middle Eastern dish.
