I saw on tiktok that the iconic and devastating soundtrack that plays during the kiss scene in Good Omens is titled "I forgive you" so I went on youtube to check and-

Not only is it titled "I forgive you", the soundtrack is also split in two and the other half is titled "Don't Bother". David Arnold and Neil Gaiman, I'm coming for you.

Oh it's been a while since we did one of these innit what was the last tine? Jan? Well the Mascot is back with a part XVII because this fandom valentine's day posts wrecked me emotionally and i took the usual sleep meds (we all know how that goes) so I'm here to make bad decisions y;all. Hi, can you explain what you meant that transmascs and TERFs have in common?

sure. both transmascs and terfs (generally cis women) have institutional power over trans women. whilst transmascs as a group might not have the ubiqituous desire to hold this power (and many even deny its existence) that doesn't stop it from being true -- basically all the transfems i know have been denied entry to queer spaces, cut off from queer groups, shunned from queer housing, etc. where transmasculine people have been allowed/encouraged (and indeed, often these spaces are run by transmascs).

you can even see on terf tumblr at the moment they're admitting to using places like /r/transandrophobia (a subreddit dedicated to the conspiracy theory that trans men are oppressed for being men instead of for being transgender) as recruitment for transmasc terfs (which is a quickly growing demographic).

it might seem counterintuitive for transmascs to side with/align themselves with terfs (and on a longterm scale i'd agree), given how obviously transphobic terfs are to all trans people, but unfortunately, plenty of transmascs have proven themselves cool with putting up with that, calling themselves "biologically female", etc. and sticking with the movement under the promise that it will primarily focus on the extermination of trans women.

you can see this in the most recent wave of bans tumblr enforced onto the trans community across 2024 so far; of all the people being randomly deleted for speaking out against Matt Mullenweg's bullshit, the majority were trans women, and i saw plenty of transmascs piping up saying it was her own fault that she got banned etc.

terf ideas about gender (the idea that "biological females" is a discreet category, that trans women are an oppressive class rather than about the lowest rung of the ladder you can get etc) actually prop up transmascs' ability to be transmisogynistic without consequence.

if transmascs are treated as inherently more "vulnerable" and "trustable" than trans women, then that gives them the privilege to cast out whatever trans girl they like from social circle if they use the right progressive language; i see this happen all the time. why do you think you see so many callout posts for trans women specifically compared to any other group?

basically, as with practically every other minority group on earth, men are treated as higher, more intelligent, more valuable than women. men can use their voices to dominate discussions & shut down conversations about misogyny; why wouldn't this extend to trans men and trans women too? i've seen probably dozens of posts saying "why is there so much transmasc and transfem fighting?? we should be fucking" and honestly, how is that any different than "shut up about misogyny and suck my dick"? it isn't, but i see this all the time, and i see people praising this rhetoric like it's progressive, like most people calling for "transunity" are actually just asking for trans girls to shut the fuck up about our issues.

for what it's worth, i don't believe transmascs are all individually Like That, it's just obviously institutionally true for the trans community.
