A week to remember

So this week was really very interesting for me. I started the week catching up with someone who is in their early egg state and looking for some help and I was so glad to give it. It took me such a long time to emerge from my egg and if I’d met someone that was happy and confident and in the same situation it would have made such a difference to me. I really hope I helped them.

Then I decided to start taking more selfies, some of which I added here. I think because I’m so certain now that this long-awaited transition is actually going to happen, that it’s actually real, I want to document who I am now so that I can look back on this time with some care, one day in my future.

In doing so I thought to gently update my facebook photo to a more current one. I left a little description that I guess wasn’t as subtle as I’d thought and the first comment came within about 2 minutes “are you transitioning?”

Cat firmly out of the bag and jumping around in that way cats do when their brains just go slightly haywire.

So i re-wrote the description and added more confirmation that I was indeed trans to see what would happen...

Over the next evening and into the following days I had nealy 400 likes and over 300 comments from friends all around the world, all supporting me in my journey and in coming out to them. Amazing. My parents were also seeing it and commenting and I’m absolutely sure it made a big difference to them to see that I’ve got support and that I’m not alone.

The next day I definitely dressed more femme. More makeup and wore my super warm Clarks winter boots which I love. I was floating along knowing that in some ways I’ve got tangible permission from all my friends and family to move forward, to not be scared.

But then I went to get electrolysis...

I’ve been going to one woman in town who has a good reputation, and has been dealing with trans people for a long time, but the last time I was there I started noticing more and more that she yanks the hair out, whether or not it wants to come out. This week I went in with no painkilling or numbing and it was hell. Every time she tugged the hair out violently I knew that she was basically wasting my time and money while putting me through this agony. If the hair is being tugged out with force, it will just grow back, so it’s essentially pointless. If the current has been applied properly the hair should just slide out.

So the 2 hour session nearly had me in tears of frustration. I can handle the pain, but it has to have a point! My goal is to lose the hair, not just endure the discomfort.

So ups and downs, but mostly ups. I’m going to see another lady for treatment next week and I’m very sure I’ll find someone better and not be wasting my time. If I had one wish it would be to lose the facial hair as soon as possible as it’s my biggest dysphoric trigger other than my chin.

But then another up!

This week I also got an enquiry to shoot season 3 of Tin Star, which might start right after my current project. My great wish to work all year up to November, save some money and then organise my facial feminisation surgery for late November is lining up almost perfectly. I plan to have the surgery and recover in Marbella for a few weeks, then come back to London before heading to New Zealand to see my friends and family there. I’ll be able to afford the surgery and the recovery with all this great work this year.

I really can’t wait for the end of the year but I’m going to have a great time shooting the shows in the meantime.
