I'm slowly going back through the original Sherlock Holmes stories, and I am reminded once again of how very much I love Watson. He's the best. He's my kind of weirdo. He does not want drugs, thank you very much, he wants to follow his roommate around while he does weird detective stuff. He's a smart man reveling in never having to be the smartest person in the room. He writes accounts of his roommate's investigations that are somewhere between biography, melodrama, and rpf. He falls in love exceedingly quickly. Holmes says Watson's the closest thing he's ever found to a totally average person, and that's the wildest statement anywhere in the books. I want to put him in a jar for study.

@gilgamushroom is a hundred million percent correct, and not exaggerating in any way. XD I absolutely love CHAS. Such a good story.
(Though...perhaps I'm faltering in my Sherlockian memory, but I thought the goatee was in "His Last Bow" when he had to be in disguise as the Irish-American Altamont [named after Arthur Conan Doyle's father, by the way—Charles Altamont Doyle]. Was he wearing a goatee in CHAS as well? o.O)

221B Baker Street Christmas!
I'm making my house a Murder Mystery Christmas. My newest acquisition is a Department 56 Literary Classics model of Sherlock Holmes' house, with Sherlock and Watson!
Tumblr media
It's all set for the season with garland and wreath, a table full of tiny British Xmas foods, a Christmas tree, and three annoying carolers. Miss Marple, Father Brown, and Hercule Poirot watch over them like Guardian Angels.
Tumblr media
Dr. Moriarty left them a plum pudding. I don't think they'll eat it.
Tumblr media
A better look at the two.

Reading The Adventure of the Devil's Foot was certainly. An experience.
The pointy ears are a stylistic choice I just like drawing pointy ears.
[ID: a digital, fully colored drawing of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. They're sitting outside in the grass, both without a jacket, Holmes is wearing a black waistcoat and trousers with a scarf while Watson wears a brown waistcoat and trousers. They're sitting close to each other with their foreheads almost touching. Holmes eyes are closed with furrowed brow while Watson looks at him worried and holding him by the shoulders. /End ID]

I'm so happy for all the queer writers who are going to write Sherlock Holmes stories. I went into the Sherlock Holmes tag this new years looking for some jokes but surprisingly got really emotional. I saw people talking about the work they were going to create. And queer people telling others to make queer adaptations. Yknown Sherlock Holmes isn't the only character hitting public domain tonight. I realized this isn't just about our fav characters and shipping but about queer artists having more power to tell their own stories though characters and media they love. The more public domain there is the more queer power there is. So congrats to Holmes and Watson but above all else
Congratulations to Queer Artists, Writers, and Creators.
Happy public domain to many characters!
and minorities and oppressed groups please know your work is

So I just read The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton thanks to @contact-guy’s FANTASTIC illustration/spin on it and like. My god. I have a friend irl who is also big into Sherlock (has been since childhood) and he advised me that Watson does many Gay Actions in the story. It was even better than I hoped.
Gay Actions taken under the cut.
-Nearly clobbers Milverton with a chair at end of the initial scene in 221B (was it in hopes of going through the pocketbook to be absolutely sure the client’s letters weren’t there? unclear. but for sure it was out of frustration on Holmes’s behalf) -Threatens to go straight to the cops unless Holmes lets him come along on the burgling scheme so he can protect his mans -Is incredibly quick to fabricate black silk eye masks for the two of them to go burgling in -Gets led by the hand when they enter the house since Holmes is the one who’s practiced seeing in the dark :3 -Uses such lingering phrasing re Holmes “putting his lips to [Watson’s] very ear” so as to whisper to him in the study :3333 -“Thrill[s] with a keener zest” at defying the law; see also “I rejoiced and exulted in our dangers.” Watson has always wanted to be gay and do crime -Is going to be Such a Good Watchdog when Holmes tells him to stay by the door and listen for anyone approaching, and to bolt it if anyone does -Promptly forgets these instructions in favor of watching Holmes start safecracking “[w]ith a glow of admiration” -Hides w Holmes behind the curtains when H hears Milverton coming... and watches events through careful gap, shoulder to shoulder w Holmes -Instantly perfectly interprets Holmes’s “cold, strong grasp” on his wrist to mean don’t do shit, Milverton deserves every bullet -Watches Holmes burn all the blackmail letters with what I just know is gritted-teeth grim satisfaction -Has to kick free of a hand catching his ankle whilst booking it over the wall of the grounds after Holmes -Maintains a completely bland, unaffected face when Lestrade comes round in the morning to a) report H&W’s own crimes and b) give a description... of Watson
Absolute delight of a tale. I await all further illustrations with great anticipation.

Loving the news that we'll be getting a third Enola Holmes movie!
I can't wait to see MBB and Henry team up again and things progress with Louis Partridge, as well as getting to see Henry with Himesh Patel, Dr. Watson! I'm also wondering, and hoping, if Sam will be able to rejoin for this one!
I'm super excited to see how they build a story with Mira Troy, aka Moriarty, with her escape at the end of film two!!

hey so if you haven't listened to the adventure of the deceased doctor yet you are missing out on all kinds of time travel shenanigans, multiple versions of sherlock, and a surprise villain that had me pacing around my apartment at 3:30 in the morning
(general warning for the master being... the master.)

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson having a nice Christmas supper together. I love how inseparable these two are. And I love that in Neil Gaiman's The Case of Death and Honey it's heavily implied that Sherlock made Watson immortal so they could spend eternity as the duo that they are.
