Too Much of a Good Thing :: A Duality Fanfic

Wanted to put some Keith lovin' out there, seeing the recent asks hehehe. Whipped this up real fast.

Totally not based on a true, accurate story of me and my first love who also looks weirdly like Keith and whose name began with a 'Ke'...

On a dozy Sunday morning, Evie blinked awake slowly, stretching and swinging her arm out to feel for Keith’s warmth, only to realize that he wasn’t there. Frowning, she lifted her head, looking around. His bedroom was empty save for her, but she could hear the clattering of pans outside the room in the kitchen.

She rolled out of bed, heading to the bathroom quickly, fixing her hair and washing her face, doing all her morning routines as fast as she could. Still in her pajamas, she stepped out of the bathroom, all freshened up, and approached the kitchen.

Keith was busy getting things ready for breakfast when he noticed her.

“Oh, Evie, dear.” He smiled. “I was hoping you’d sleep in a little. I was going to serve you breakfast in bed.”

“That’s okay. How about I help you instead?” She smiled back, tucking a stray strand of her hair behind her ear as she stepped closer.

“Mm, that sounds just as good.” He wrapped his arms around her waist, kissing her forehead gently.

“Better, even.” She quipped back, standing on her tiptoes to plant a chaste kiss on his lips.

They got to work making pancakes. She measured the dry ingredients, and he measured the wet ones, and they mixed it together but it… didn’t seem right.

“Does it seem too thick?” Evie frowned.

“Let’s add some more water,” Keith offered.

So they added more water.

“Now it’s all runny!” Keith whined.

“H-how about some more flour?” Evie reached for the bag.

Several minutes later, they had a huge amount of pancake batter, all mixed and to a perfect consistency. Sheepishly smiling at each other, they decided to cook it as it was, making large pancakes, and medium pancakes, and very small palm-sized pancakes just for fun.

Overall, they ended up with a whopping thirty-eight pancakes.

Sitting at the table with the plate of overflowing breakfast delight between them, Evie leaned over and peered around the tower of ‘cakes at Keith. “So, uh… who’s gonna eat all this?”

“Tenebris, probably.” Keith said matter-of-factly.

“Sounds about right.”

They giggled and settled in, both taking about three pancakes from the stack.

“Hey, Keith?” Evie called, in between bites.

“Hm, yes, my love?” He responded.

“I love you. Thank you for thinking of me this morning.” She was blushing and grateful the ‘cakes were blocking his view.

It didn’t stop him from leaning around the tower to look at her and grin. “I love you, too, darling. And what do you mean, thank you? You’re always my first thought in the morning.” ❤

Tonight was the night. You were going to catch the person that had been sneaking into your room every night for the past week.

At first, you thought you were crazy when you woke up and your water glass was full when you knew you had drunk at least half of it before falling asleep. So for the sake of your sanity, you had set up your phone to record a video of you sleeping in a hidden spot.

Sure enough, a few hours after you fell asleep, a tall, lanky man crawled through your bedroom window. Your SECOND STORY bedroom window. To your surprise, he took your glass from your nightstand, exited the room, and replaced it, now full. Then, he leaned over your sleeping form for a moment before tucking you in and leaving the same way he had arrived. You couldn’t help but feel vulnerable, but at the same time, he hadn’t hurt you or stolen anything.

You weren’t sure how much time had passed, but you forced yourself to feign sleep as you heard your window open. Your heartbeat picked up as his footsteps approached the nightstand and then retreated out of the room. You heard a sink run, and then he returned.

It took all of your willpower to stay calm as you felt his fingers brush the hair from your face. Something soft touched your forehead. You could feel his lips move against your skin as he whispered three words.

“Sleep tight, (y/n).”

This man was breaking into your home… to kiss you goodnight and tuck you in? You felt him begin to pull away, and just like the previous nights, he started to adjust the blanket on your bed. ‘Here goes nothing!’ You thought, and you grabbed his wrist.

The man let out a startled noise. Your eyes snapped open and you looked into his eyes. You’d know those violet hues anywhere.

“Tenebris, just what in the hell do you think you’re doing?!” He winced at your angry tone, but his eyes were drawn to where you were still gripping his wrist. “Tucking you in? I thought that was obvious.” “By sneaking into my bedroom in the dead of night?” “Well I don’t live with you, so yeah.”

You pinched the bridge of your nose and let go of his wrist. Patting the edge of the bed to invite him to sit, you thought back to the day you met him.

“Turn around and strip and I won’t cut you!” You swallowed hard as your legs shook. It turns out, taking your usual back alley shortcut at dusk wasn't your best idea. Now, an unkempt man who reeked of alcohol stood behind you with a buck knife pressed to your neck. “Okay! Okay, just please, don’t hurt me!” You started to unbutton your shirt.

“Hey, what’s going on here?” A voice called from the end of the alley. “Please, help me!” You cried, too afraid to move. “This doesn’t concern you. Scram!” The man behind you barked. “If I were you, I’d let them go.” You heard footsteps approaching. Your body was yanked to face the newcomer, and you watched as they stepped into the light of the street lamp.

What you saw took a moment for you to process. A tall, lanky blond man stood before you. However, his skin was a deep blue and his mouth looked unnatural. Along with normal lips, there were seams that stretched almost ear to ear, and his frown allowed you to make out sharp teeth that glinted in the pale yellow light. His vibrant purple eyes were opened wider than seemed normal, giving him a look of surprise, though his glare told you otherwise. His supernatural appearance left you in awe.

“What the fuck is wrong with your face?!” Your captor exclaimed with disgust. “Rude!” You snapped, despite your situation. It earned you a small cut on your neck as the man pressed the knife harder against your skin. As you winced, you felt a drop of blood roll down your neck to your collarbone. The blond man seemed angry now, though you couldn’t tell if it was the comment or the sight of your blood that set him off.

“Let them go, asshole!” He growled, taking a menacing step forward. Your captor took a step back, pulling you with him, as if using you like a human shield. What happened next, you weren’t exactly sure. All you saw was a flash of blue, and you heard a metallic clank. Looking down, the knife now laid at your feet. You grabbed it and started to turn, but you heard the blue man say, “Stay put.”

The sounds coming from behind you were horrific, and you guessed he didn’t want you to see what he was doing to the man that had attacked you. Strangely, you couldn’t bring yourself to feel bad about it. A breeze blew through the alley, reminding you that your shirt was unbuttoned. Fixing your clothes, you realized in the absence of adrenaline that you were freezing. You heard a deep sigh, and suddenly a black leather jacket, speckled with blood, was draped over your shoulders. Your savior stepped into your vision.

“You okay?” He asked, looking at your neck. You nodded and winced as your cut burned. “Thanks for saving me…” “Name’s Tenebris.” He said, rubbing the back of his neck bashfully. “My name is (y/n). I can’t thank you enough for your help.” You said with a warm smile, and held your hand out to him. He looked you up and down, assessing your reaction to him, before gently taking your hand. It was at this point you noticed that like his jacket, he too was covered in blood spatter.

“Cmon Tenebris, let’s get you cleaned up! Walk me home, and I’ll wash your clothes for you.” You said, tugging him. “I dunno if that’s a good-“ “If you like sweets, I have a chocolate cake we can eat while we wait~” “Lead on!”

You had taken him into your apartment and let him shower while you washed his clothes. Over the next few weeks, you had become good friends. He often walked you home from work to keep you safe. But that didn’t explain why he was sneaking into your room at night.

As he settled on your bed, you took a deep breath to calm your mind. As much as you wanted to scream and be angry, you needed answers.

“Why are you doing this?” You asked him, flipping on your bedside lamp. “There have been a string of break ins in this neighborhood, all happening at about this time. I’ve been coming here and checking on you.” Tenebris explained. “Okay, I guess that makes sense, but why do you think that you need to check on me?”

Suddenly, he couldn’t look you in the eye. “I… care about you. A lot. And I can’t relax until I see for myself that you’re safe.” “What exactly are you saying?” Tenebris took a deep breath and grabbed your hand. “It’s just… the first time you saw me, it was in a dark alley and you were in a really bad situation. But even with all of that happening, you weren’t afraid of me. You defended me while you had a knife at your neck. You’re the first person to not judge me for how I look. You make me feel… normal.” He finally looked at you, his blushing face almost matching his eyes.

Your heart melted at the adoring expression he gave you. Even if he didn’t outright say it, you knew what he was trying to get across. “Tenebris, I love you, too!” You proclaimed and threw yourself in his arms. He scooped you up and spun you around the room, laughing.

As he set you down, you let out an impressive yawn. “Keeping you up, am I?” Tenebris joked. “Hey, cut me some slack, I had to stay up late to catch you!” You snarked, resting your head on his shoulder. Shaking his head, he gently laid you back on your pillows. “Alright, let’s try this again, shall we? Sleep tight, (y/n).” He said, pressing a kiss to your forehead.

“Wait, Tenebris… why don’t you stay? That break in talk kinda has me spooked.” You suggested, giving him your best puppy eyes. He looked lost in thought for a moment, before nodding. He slipped off his jacket and shoes, and flipped off the light. Tenebris gingerly crawled into bed with you, not wanting to do anything to make you uncomfortable.

“C’mere, you!” You laughed, rolling your eyes. You tugged him close to you, so his head rested on your shoulder. As you carded your fingers through his hair, a deep rumble came from him. “Are you purring?” “Maybe…” he mumbled, nuzzling into your neck.

“Thank you for taking care of me, Tenebris. I love you.” “Love you too, (y/n).”

1- I am obsessed with Gatobob’s games (btd, btd2, tpof, ykmet) 😭💕💕 I love her writing and how intense she makes things feel. Ren Hana/Fox is also my 2nd favorite character ever!! Those are definitely my favorite.

2- I’m also obsessed with Do Not Take This Cat Home!!!! It’s SO good, I adore it 😭💕💕 I can’t even emphasize enough how much I love it

3- Finishing my top 3 would be The Science of Staying Awake by @viscereye!! Vance is such a pathetic little guy I love him. I originally made my itchio account just to comment on how much I enjoyed it!

Duality (Visual Novel)

Genre: Romance/Horror

I've been waiting for Duality's release for a while now, and on Halloween, it finally was released! In this game, there are two yanderes that can be pursued, both in the same body, Keith and Tenebris. For an r18 game, this is one of the few where I do think having a polyamorus relationship with the two kind of makes sense as it doesn't seem like either of them can leave the body that they inhabit. If you are curious about this game, you can learn more about it at @dualityvn.

From what I can gather, there seems to be about five different endings- one with each of the two love interest, one with both of them, and two bad endings. The placeholder name for this game is Alex, so I'll be using that name as the MC's main name.

The story starts with Alex running into a flower shop to shield themselves from the rain. There, they meet an employee there named Keith and buys some flowers, and afterwards decides if they want to ask for his number or not. Asking for his number prompts him to refuse for what seems like safety reasons and then leave, not before seeing a strange expression on Keith's face. The next day while walking to work, Alex sees what seems to be Keith but with blue splotches, before heading to work. Afterwards while exiting the building, they see this blueish Keith again, this time coming up to them and asking for their number, which they can accept or deny. Accepting it causes him to be flustered and Alex proceeds to write the number on his hand. He then asks if they were just doing it so that he would leave him alone, to which Alex can either agree or disagree.

Depending on the choices in this beginning section shows whether or not Alex gets with Keith or Tenebris (the blue version), both, or a bad ending.

If Alex equally flirts with both, upon going home, Tenebris has broken in and pins them to the wall. Both Tenebris and Keith seem infatuated with them, switching sides (as they share a body), with their eye bleeding as both of them attempt to take control.

If Alex only flirts with Tenebris, he will break into their house where they can either try to get rid of him or try to befriend him. Befriending him allows Alex to ask about his hobbies (playing games) and knowing more about him, learn more about how not used to human behaviors as he's used to as well as just straight up flirting with him. At the end, Tenebris leaves by jumping out the window and crushing the cars beneath him. Alex can also just kick Tenebris out (nicely, of course) or threaten to call the police on him, to which Alex runs out and Tenebris chases them for a bit. Being rude to Tenebris (aka calling him ugly) will cause him to break in and seemingly kill or incapacitate Alex.

If Alex only flirts with Keith, Tenebris will initially break in, however, Keith will take control again. Keith begs Alex not to call the police and promises that Tenebris won't hurt them while also explaining briefly the relationship between him and Tenebris. Alex can ask him to stay longer and learn a bit more about him before Keith ends up going home (though this time they have the option to ask for his number, to which he does actually give it this time). Alex can also lie to Keith and proceed to get him to leave and then call the police, though it runs an unsettling feeling of having to see him again.

Duality's concept of having two datable yanderes is pretty interesting, especially since they inhabit the same body. From what I remember, Keith has problems with self image (to a certain degree) and will attempt to be what the MC likes (aka a mimic yandere) while Tenebris doesn't want to appear scary to the MC and has a hard time being accustomed to human traditions. In the future, you're allowed to pursue both of them leading to a poly ending, which I think in this case makes sense, as the two share a body. Normally I'm sort of iffy on this kind of situations since yanderes normally aren't built to handle poly situations (since in general, they get very jealous and violent towards anyone that goes near their love, and since they only will ever have one love I would imagine it would be difficult to maintain something like that without it falling apart), but in this case since they don't have any other way and are kind of forced to coexist, they don't really have a huge option of not sharing.

Anyways, in terms of yandere behavior, there's not a whole lot as of yet since it's just the intro stages. I would say Tenebris probably has a bit more since he does stalk Alex from the flower store to their work, as well as break into their house afterwards, though you could say part of it is because Tenebris doesn't really understand how human relationships work (considering he doesn't understand that breaking into peoples houses isn't a good thing, even if you're not taking anything), but it still would be considered yandere behavior regardless. Since it's mostly Tenebris doing a lot of the more questionable work, we don't necessarily see as much behavior from Keith, but I can imagine he's more clingy and manipulative as compared to Tenebris since he cares very strongly about his looks and how people perceive him. The one that has the most seems to be when both characters like Alex, with them attempting to both control the body and making his face bleed. From what I can tell on their tumblr page, Tenebris does a bit more of stalking and is more violent and Keith does more of becoming what Alex wants them to be and is possibly more manipulative, and it's nice to see the two different types of yandere behaviors from these two characters.

I will say that personally the textbox makes it a bit hard to read the text at times, especially from afar. It's probably due to the gradients, and maybe it's just me but I did have a bit of difficulty reading what the text says sometimes. I also think that having a stronger outline on the characters would make Tenebris and Keith stand out more since at times it does look like they blend into the background a bit as well.

Obviously I have to mention that I'm finally getting fed with a sub yandere, thank you for making Tenebris a sub, I'm very happy about this situation. Keith being jealous is also extremely cute plus he dresses up in dresses which is also a win in my book.

Anywho, I do think that the idea and demo so far are pretty interesting. I'm curious to see what else will be added into the future for this game, and I'm especially curious how the poly ending will play out.
