It's 1am, I started playing Legends of Runeterra again, and I am once again disappointed that they just went with the basic tragic true love romance for Viego. They could have fully leaned into him being a terrible abusive creepy stalker guy who got away with it cause he was born into a position of extreme power. They could have made it Isolde's tragedy because she was unable to tell him no without terrible consequences and so had to live a life of pretending and appeasing him. They could have made it Isolde's bloody revenge when we finally get her as a champion and allowed her to go fully apeshit on him, getting vengeance for not only a stolen a life but a stolen death as well. It could have been so cool.

Fandom Gripe #23: I know that fandom is in some deep denial about its treatment of female characters that are canonically involved with fan favorite m/m ships, but do y’all realize that when you disappear female characters from the narrative wholesale to push the idea that your canonically straight fav was “secretly gay all along!” you’re making several bad implications? That 1) bi men don’t exist, 2) bi men do exist, but those who have genuinely loved a woman before cannot genuinely love a man after that (therefore bi men don’t exist in practice), 3) women cannot inspire genuine love and devotion in men, therefore any relationship with a woman is “lesser” than the one they later have a man (see previous parenthesis), or 4) to acknowledge the existence of a lovable woman who isn’t a terrible person, where if a relationship previously existed, it did not end because of “incompatibility,” is enough to destabilize the present relationship between two queer men?
Because why is the tgcf fandom allergic to acknowledging that He Xuan had a whole ass fiancée that he loved? Why does no one ever seem to remember that the kidnappings and murders of He Xuan’s sister and fiancée were the final straws that sent him on his rampage, and he still keeps a shrine to them in the present-day of the story? Why is her entire existence and significance to He Xuan as a man, character, and to his character arc disappeared in favor of pushing Shi Qingxuan—the brother of the man responsible for his fiancée’s death—into that same role, as if to say that her impact on He Xuan is significant... just not when it's from her? Why does He Xuan’s life in fandom essentially begin not just after her death but because of it?

Something about having absolutely no choice in who you marry. About being literally forced by the law to spill blood - to accept this stranger as your husband over a man you truly care for or accept the fact that the man you love might die because you put him in danger. Something about risking becoming the wife of a man you've never even seen before a few minutes prior because you know anything would be better than putting your beloved in harm's way. Something about the trust inherent in that decision and in the way she speaks of it after. Truthfully, T'Pring doesn't know the captain and she doesn't know Spock. Either one of them could have taken her as their wife but she does know Stonn. She knows that Stonn will remain by her side no matter what. They made a plan together. They have an agreement which T'Pring believes will be upheld even though the plan changed with the arrival of Kirk. Stonn will always be there, always, and Stonn will be hers. Something about the language used around T'Pring: Ownership, subservience, non-personhood. T'Pring is an object that Spock can win. She cannot reject him, she has no say in the matter other than having Stonn 'claim' her instead. Even when Spock leaves after being very clearly rejected by T'Pring he says "Stonn, she is yours." as if despite her clear rejection he still owns her and is must formally 'give' her to Stonn. But the language T'Pring uses around Stonn is a break from that: "There was Stonn who wanted very much to be my consort, and I wanted him." Stonn who wanted very much to be HER consort and she WANTED him. The language here is very particular - It's not, for example: "Stonn wanted me to be his wife" - he is HERS. And she WANTS him. There's a mutual affection there and a strong trust - a trust which seems to be well founded since Stonn (though silent) stands by her side at the end of the episode. <- That might seem small but if Spock would reject her for 'daring to challenge' (again, the language is not 'because I don't want you' but more of an implied disgust at her having the AUDACITY to reject him) then it's not a stretch to assume that it'd be considered an insult in the TOS Vulcan society to NOT choose Stonn as her champion after a prior agreement. Anyway T'Pring was a woman in an impossible situation within a society which saw her as more of an object than a person and she wanted Stonn and Stonn wanted to be hers and she trusted that he would understand if she had to publicly pick someone else to ensure his life would be spared and he did understand.
#amok time#T'Pring i s....T'Pring she....-puts my head through a wall-#PLEASE read under the cut for my rambling about T'Pring in amok time pleasepleaseplease#tired of 'T'Pring is evil/a bitch' and VERY uninterested in 'T'Pring is a girlboss'#T'Pring is a person in a society which doesn't think she has the right to make her own choices who's in [love] with a man who [loves] her#back in what I'd like to think is implied to be a slightly subversive way in its mutual and fervent nature (whether the writers thought#this was a good or bad thing - who knows. We know better RIGHT??)#and yes I will stylize T'Pring's hair differently every single time I draw it HEHEHE#star trek tos#Spock#T'Pring#also of COURSE something something spock/kirk & stonn/t'pring parallels: To keep your beloved safe you have to force someone else to kill#theirs - not BC you hate him (you don't) but you don't love him either and why does HE get to have you even if you don't want him?? Why doe#he get to 'give' you to the person YOU chose?? It's not a hatred on a person level (which I wanted to portray with the 'brothers') portion#but a sort of societal embodying.#I will think about T'Pring not wanting to be 'the consort of a legend' every damn day !!!#They really could have laid it on thick in making her evil guys...T'Pau even makes a comment about Spock's 'vulcan blood is thin'#but all T'Pring says is that Spock is a legend and she doesn't want that for her life. She wants Stonn.#And you're gonna sit there and you're gonna tell her that she's wrong!??? Spock doesn't even want to be with her!! Why is she so hated!?#CAN WE FREE MY GIRL??? She did all that but it's being read in the worst faith possible!!#comix#bea art tag#star trek art#She literally says the word 'FREE'...she's TRAPPED!!!

everytime i watch shameless I get hit with a jolt of sickness and remember how frank and monica stole fionas life from her and she'll never get it back because it never existed because she was a sister first her whole life (from the age of 4) and everything else second and its always just so casual in the show and normal and rarely touched upon but it's not normal at all and it's tragic
#another post made at 2am that i found in the drafts#but my god its messed up how frank and monica got to live their own lives and how the kids got to have aspirations kinda but fiona was just#always stuck with the feeling of being stuck#cause she was forced to devote a largeee chunk of her life to servitude#its so unbelievably telling of frank and monicas innate selfishness above anything else imo :#their willingness to fulfil their mutual desire to extend the feeling of things such as youth and excitement and fun#to the point that they stripped their own daughter of the ability to experience childhood#education#etc#my memory is hazy but frank definitely was in college and i think monica was too? either way they both got to finish HS / experience it#but not fiona!!! its the opposite of parents sacrificing so their children can have more#they had more than fiona did and didnt give a shit about the fact that they just took from her#(obviously im not saying they had rosy perfect lives as kids teens and young adults— far from it actually)#(but its shockingly clear that they had a great deal more than fiona...or at least less on their plates...)#like when frank speaks of being a boy in college#its like.. these opportunities he threw away while fiona would've loved to have them but instead she had to drop out of HS#against her will#like yes its complicated but bottom line is its just sad how frank and monica were both afforded with control over their lives to a degree#while all of fionas life decisions carried the weight of her whole family and she didnt get to have independent control over her life#like for example she didnt drop out of HS cause she actually wanted to#she just didn't have any other choice

In the asoiaf au, who is Herakles's father?
I was originally going to leave it ambiguous and have we all know that his dad was Dornish, but your own hcs about Mama Greece and Persia inspired me :)
It remains to be seen if Persia is still alive though, as it stands to reason Romulus wouldn't want the guy who messed around with his wife (granted before he married her) still present. A big part of his marriage to Helene was that she had to give up her attachments to Herakles, and that was probably the biggest rift in their marriage. The adultery is one thing, but the fact that he campaigned that hard to marry her and then went on to have affairs on her is a whole other. That's it's own issue though. And let's be clear, Helene did love him at the time they got married, they had two children together for a reason, she's not a helpless victim in this scenario (granted she did not have much choice what with Patriarchy™ being a thing).
The caveat here is that Romulus doesn't like to do things subtly, you could call it honor, but really it's more him wanting to take the credit for beating his rivals. He doesn't want a slip down the stairs to take someone out, he wants it to be him. If Persia died in a slightly suspicious way and people sideye him though... that could also be a potential thread.

“Warwick launched his final bid at kingmaking, this time in alliance with Margaret of Anjou to restore Henry VI. He and Clarence landed in Devon while the King was in Yorkshire. Elizabeth (Woodville)’s initial reaction was to prepare for a siege in the Tower of London where she had already retired in expectation of the imminent birth of another child. But on 1 October news reached the capital that the King was preparing to set sail from Bishop’s Lynn, abandoning his kingdom. With no hope of imminent rescue, Elizabeth moved swiftly into the Sanctuary of Westminster Abbey with her mother and her daughters. She sent Abbot Thomas Millyng to advise the Mayor and Aldermen that she was surrendering the Tower, and consequently Henry VI, into their custody.
- J.L Laynesmith,  “Elizabeth Woodville: The Knight’s Widow” in “Later Plantagenet and Wars of the Roses Consorts” / “The Last Medieval Queens, English Queenship 1445-1503″
"Elizabeth (Woodville) at first fortified the Tower of London against the approaching Lancastrians, but then decided instead to hand over custody of the Tower to the mayor and aldermen of London while she went into sanctuary at Westminster Abbey. It was a move which not only protected her daughters, who were with her, but also saved London from attack, which perhaps explains some of the praise she later received. The author of 'The Historic of the Arrival of Edward IV, who claimed to have witnessed much of what he recorded, stressed
the right great trowble, sorow, and hevines, whiche [the queen] sustayned with all manar pacience that belonged to eny creature, and as constantly as hathe bene sene at any tyme any of so highe estate to endure; in the whiche season natheles she had browght into this worldc, to the Kyngs grcatystc joy, a fayrc son.
...When Edward (IV) arrived, there was a scene of family bliss, in which the queen's vulnerability and domesticity could be contrasted with his heroism.  The king was thus presented in an unusually human guise, which might appeal to readers familiar with such partings themselves throughout the civil wars:
The king comfortid the quene, and other ladyes ckc;  His swete babis ful tendurly he did kys;  The yonge prynce he behelde, and in his armys did bere. Thus his bale turnyd hym to blis.
#historicwomendaily#elizabeth woodville#history#edward iv#mine#the wars of the roses#i have a major issue with the way this is viewed by the vast majority of people tbh#for one: so many people conveniently forget that she was the one who controlled and was apparently fortifying the ToL#(which included the captive Henry VI btw)#while she was literally 8 months pregnant#she only gave it up after she learned that edward iv was also fleeing. it's SO important and interesting#and yet most people either don't know about it or conveniently flash forward to when she entered sanctuary#and my second issue: SO MANY PEOPLE INCLUDING HISTORIANS tend to treat her flight to sanctuary as some kind of indication of her personalit#when the truth of the matter is that SHE HAD NO OTHER CHOICE#as david baldwin rightly pointed out -as an englishwoman of the gentry she did not have foreign resources shelter or support at her disposa#the way every queen before her (in theory for lots of them as it wasn't required) possessed#nor was elizabeth a valuable heiress (like anne Neville or her own daughter eoy)#not to mention the very obvious fact that she was heavily pregnant (and gave birth just a month later) with three very young daughters#like. literally what else was she supposed to do? where else was she supposes to go?#her vulnerability was unprecedentedly horrific and people & historians don't emphasize the comparative degree of it as much as they should#at that point elizabeth literally didn't have any other options other than sanctuary. it wasn't much of a choice#it's strange because elizabeth's status has been discussed a lot in theory but rarely discussed in terms of how it affected her in PRACTISE#and this is a key example of that#among many others

I was talking to Curtis about how certain aspects of Doctor Who would be treated if they were episodes of Torchwood and/or had that rating leniency of Torchwood (imo the limitations of Doctor Who make for better TV than Torchwood in general, but not always) and when I brought up Amy's Choice, Curtis said I should do an episode rewrite and.
Hm. Hmmm. That could be really interesting. Amy and Rory and the Doctor's dynamic would be so... different in a Torchwood rated show, given the things they do with them in Doctor Who, and if they actually used the Dream Lord as an interesting villain (and they'd actually be able to play into the Doctor's worst traits in an adult show! For better and for worse!)...
However I'd have to actually rewatch Amy's Choice, and also decide how much I want to stay faithful to the episode, how much I want to stay faithful to "what would/could Torchwood have done here, and how much I actually want the result to be. Good.
Because "what Torchwood would do" and "what would be interesting" are not necessarily the same things.
(Accidentally wrote a Novel in the tags also. Whoops.)
#rose rambles#maybe. maybe.#would it require context from “earlier episodes” that “didn't happen” how they did in canon?#Should it be written in normal fanfic style#or as a script to stay true medium?#I usually dislike episode rewrites but. One with a very specific goal and set or rules might be interesting...... hm.......#(I do not like the episode Amy's Choice btw. to be clear. it had good potential and fun scenes and even fun concepts but my god.#was the “love triangle” the worst it had been in s5.#And that's also a thing I'd have to decide how to handle.#like if I was writing it to be GOOD I'd keep the love triangle conceptually#but focus more on how all three of the people involved fuck things up in different ways#jealousy and infidelity and betrayal and etc. so why do they stay? Make it about what they value in each other#and make Amy's titular choice matter in some way. Maybe she's the one who decides both realities are false#because she wouldn't leave either of her boys behind. Or something. Or drop the “which one is real” since that feels like it really muddied#the water with them ALSO making it about. Which one does Amy want. It was a writing choice I think was stupid. Anyways.#I had a point. My point is I think Torchwood would stumble this landing. Lean too heavily on the boys being dicks. Still focus on the love#/triangle/ part#to the detriment of the episode#like. One more thing. I do think Rory and the doctor fighting about Amy#and Amy being weird about her feelings for both of them. That's fine#and I don't WANT her to be normal and healthy about it. I want her to be weird and unethically nonmonogamous about it.#but I don't want her settling down as a wife in a normal respectable household being the end game. and THAT is what I can't stand about#Amy's Choice (canon version) and in general her seasons#and also what I think Torchwood would stumble on. Headfirst.#Still would have been a more fun episode than canon tho.)

I wish those tropes of your soul mates name on your arm or first words were real. At least then I'd have confirmation that no one would ever love me the way I want. I wouldnt be so desperate to change my body to hate myself less and only making it worse every time i fail. Most of the time I accept it and I'm fine it's just that little worm of hope won't die. At least if that was real I'd have a blank wrist to remind me not to be stupid.

I just love how so far Teruko was the only hunting dog smart enough to not try and immediately fight Fukuchi when she found out he's with the doa. Like yeah she most likely sided with him but... In case she still wasn't sure about which side to take, to have her immediate reaction upon finding out Fukuchi was a terrorist not being “I will now openly declare that my loyalty doesn't stand with the Hunting Dogs to Fukuchi's face and proceed to fight this veteran supersoldier who's accounted to have defeated thousands of soldiers alone and who can literally look in the future all by my own” and instead like. actually act like she was on his side for the time being and wait for the events to develop

ever think about how Teen Wolf just screwed over what could’ve been a perfectly good character like Parrish by making him have a half-baked romance subplot with a high schooler. yeah.
so like why’d they do that again but main character edition.

Ghilan’nain’s Trial
Here’s a bit of headcanon lore that was on my previous blog, but was deleted when I deactivated it. I still think it’s cool and @solas-backpack-mug just asked about it, so here it is! Again.
I did remember that it wasn’t a trial to receive one’s vallaslin but a trial to become a scout specifically, but it doesn’t really matter, since my Lavellan (Neilar) would have to take it either way. I’m pretty sure halla-keepers would have a different trial, though.
Ghilan’nain’s Trial is a rite of passage in Clan Lavellan. There’s a Trial for every Evanuri; June’s would be a test of craftsmanship, Mythal’s would be a test of your judgement skill, etc. You must take one of these trials to be considered an adult and have the right to wear vallaslin; the one you take is determined by the vallaslin you choose and/or your future profession in the clan.
Ghilan’nain’s trial follows the myth about her ascension, where she is bound, wounded and left for dead in the forest. The ones undergoing the trial are woken in the middle of the night, bound and blindfolded, and then taken into the wilderness outside the clan’s camp.
There, they are given the choice of one handicap: either to keep their blindfold on, to keep their hands tied, or to keep their feet tied. With this handicap, they must make their way back to camp, relying only on their own survival skills. The trial-takers aren’t abandoned; the clan’s scouts will be watching over them from afar to protect them from danger, but asking them for help means admitting defeat.
Successfully making the journey back proves one capable of finding their way home no matter the circumstances, wounded or blinded or bound, which marks them as a capable guide for their people and a worthy follower of Ghilan’nain.

my toxic trait as a dnd is player is that I'm obsessed with making fantasy communities and if you leave me alone with my thoughts for too long I'll turn my characters simple backstory into a whole fucking town that has its own history and culture and then walk up to my dm and be like 🥺 "Can you put this in your world please?" 🥺
#My first dm ruined me this way#Bc he gave each of the players their own side missions based on backstory n love that I did this#bc I've written like half of the quest for him already Including NPCs#I invented a religion in his world to justify some character choices I made for my barbarian#And he just rolls with it and it's incredible#Like I go 'my character has a twin sister who went to magic school'#And 'when my character left her tribe she joined a crew under the captain Tommy Wisgnome on his ship the antechamper'#And then my dm goes cool#Your sister graduated magic school and now works as an advisor to a power dragon king#And Tommy actually is a former agent to a disbanded CIA like government agency but still retains some powerful contacts#Anyway yeah they'repowerful but if you want help from either of them you have to deal with the politics they're deeply embroiled in#Like God fuck yeah#I still have to get used to the fact that other dms don't Do That#Bc I'm over here crafting nuclear story bombs of NPCs from my backstory on accident#Bc I cannot stop fucking thinking about absolutely ridiculous concepts that have nothing to do with the main story#And then putting them in my characters backstory bc they sound neat#Like girl help me#I pretty much always turn my characters family/caretakers into NPCs bc like how you were raised influences you a lot#And I like being like my character is this way bc they grew up around these ppl#And then my brain took it a step farther and went#Okay now I'm going to create a whole ass setting bc my character acts this way bc of the culture they came from as a whole#Like hello!!!#It feels rude to just be inventing cities at someone else's table but also I'd love it if my players did this#I have no idea what is proper dnd etiquette#Anyway currently having big thoughts abt the village my teifling gnome is from
