*wakes up in a cold sweat* a deaf airbender would have pseudo-hearing for the same reason why toph has pseudo-sight. Sounds travel through the air.
ohhh wait you're onto something. i haven't considered that before...

Guys! Help me out! What are some things that the Ninja's probably could do with their elemental powers, but so far haven't been seen doing it on screen? I need as many of these as possible! It's for a big Ninjago project I'm working on. Trust me. You won't regret it. - ✒️🐉

It's significant to me that both Azula and Katara in specific, are proof that the spiritual connection you grow with your element works fine enough to make you the goat of your bending and that learning the wisdom of your bending from the original benders isn't necessarily needed at all to do.

It’d have been fun if Azula was Korra’s firebending teacher. Okay, listen, consider the redemption arc for Azula happened like decades ago when Aang was alive blah blah. Korra’s a known and recognized prodigy in bending, excellent at combat with a very heavy burden on her shoulders, sheltered by the White Lotus. Just on the basis of being prodigies, I think Azula would’ve been able to really bring out Korra’s full potential. She’d be strict and blunt, but Korra’s bull-headed and stubborn too so any challenge Azula throws at her, she’d immediately try to learn and one-up her.
IT COULD BE FUN!!! Like, Katara being Korra’s waterbending master and Azula firebending, and we;d finally get some resolution on the parallels arc the two had set up. Them coming together to ensure the future generation don’t repeat their mistakes.

Atla OC mini ramble cuz I miss my gurl! (and I get to draw again YIPPE)
Tumblr media
I decide to made Hikaru age being 14 when they finally found out they are an airbender, also in the time of PRE-100 WAR timeline cuz I like the idea she's aang old friend like bumi and kuzon (which I'd ramble that later))
Tumblr media
Basically to say her discovery of her own bending is late, playing into the idea of late bloomer bender and since her childhood mainly took place in the fire nation with no connection to the spiritually like the air nomad normally would, she's not connecting to that side of her origin hence its manifest quite late than normal.
I'd imagine the time before the air nomad genocide, things already tense up between all the nations, especially fire nation and the air nomads, (because war propaganda, sozin planning, colonialism etc etc) so it'd be extra difficult for her to even began, yet she still tries anyways.
In my sketch sheet of her, I add that she has a hot temper (like her mother) thus makes her airbending learning even more difficult cuz she's always soo angry and easy to upset that it became uncontrolled at times 😭😭 (like a storm or tornado), playing into idea how the air nomad people always seem so free and happy (due to their upbringings, surrounding and teaching are not up tight) contrast to how Hikaru was brought up back in her homeland, will she grow out and let go of those emotions? Idk

I’m sick and have binged all of atla so atla x asoiaf crossover nedcat, can I hear a wahoo? Well not so much a crossover as just bringing bending into asoiaf. They don’t do nations based on bending like in atla, it’s more tied to family. In other words they’re not under different rulers depending on what element they bend, after the Targaryen conquest they’re one and the same country just like in canon. So they had firebender leadership in the Targaryens for ~280 years and when Robert rebelled they went to earthbender leadership. Ned realises Joffrey and the gang are bastards because they’re all firebenders even though the Baratheons have extremely strong earthbender genes.
The Starks are waterbenders and so are the Tullys, but Ned’s the non bender of his family while Cat was the only one among her siblings to be a bender and that’s part of why she grew up as the golden child. She’s not too much of a warrior, though can do combat (the blackfish taught her) and will defend herself if it’s necessary. She’s more skilled with waterbending as an art form and an expression of her culture. As unhappy as he was with the death of his family Ned was very happy to marry a bender because that meant the chances of the waterbending tradition continuing in the Stark family were high even as he wasn’t a bender himself. He feels immensely self conscious about not being a bender while all his siblings were and he’s the first lord of winterfell in a very long time to not be a bender. Cat on the other hand has a different bending style than her northern counterparts and worried about that when she first came north.
I have two scenarios for the starklings. Either they are all benders, as well as Jon. And before Jon showed signs of waterbending Ned worried himself halfway to madness over the risk of him being a firebender like his bio dad. Or Jon and Arya are non benders and that’s another way in which they take after Ned. Either way Ned’s very proud of his bender kids and tries to train with them as well as he can without being able to bend himself.

Also, can we talk about how it took years for Hama to invent bloodbending, but Katara figured it out in a single evening, just by becoming aware it was possible and seeing a brief demonstration?

Thinking how Azula can lightbending which means she's calm of mind and out of rage when bending and she do it many times! Even when on pressure!
Truly a prodigy.
And then in the comics she can now do sparky and redirect it and instantly bend as well (few of the thing that I like from the comics).
And even on a break down clearly not calm of mind and with a lot of rage she is still able to lighting bend, like wow.
Imo she's like THE best firebender in Atla time. Clearly she needs more experience but I feel she's is better than Ozai cuz that man literally doesn't fight till the damn comet comes and even still he's barely that good, he fight with anger and that's like... So Zuko, like no wonder he sees himself in Zuko, both of them are so average while Azula is just so good.
Like she was on her WORST in that Agni Kai and still Zuko was struggling a little bit and he was IN HIS BEST, THAT WAS THE BEST WE EVER SAW HIM.
I'm sorry but Azula by the time she's like 18 would be unstoppable cuz the way she sees other types of bending and USE IT WITH HER OWN BENDING? And she doesn't only use her bending, she can fight without it too!
I need an Azula spin off where is just her fighting, I miss her so much

you know ☝️ a common criticism against korra is that she had natural talent for water fire and earth and was already "stacked" AND a common rebuttal for her i see in annoying comment sections is something along the lines of like "she was a flawed avatar but she did her best" and it just ?! like for the second well what a weird backhanded comment that is straight up not true and yet i see it EVERYWHERE. that she wasn't a "good" avatar. like i'm sorry but the avatar does not exist and it is a story. and she simply Is the avatar. and is a good one. and what would be the point of a narrative if there was no conflict. like how wasn't she good they can never answer either bc they don't even know what they're talking about 😭 "she left for three years" WHO GIVE A SHIT? aang left for A HUNDRED? she was 17 - 20 the entire series why would you weigh her against fully realised proper adult avatars like the BARE glimpses we see of the previous ones... in fact i'd say she was better than all her predecessors considering she was the first one to actually try treating spirits like they were you know ... beings ... and actually BEING the bridge between the worlds 😭 and the spirits being welcome to share the mortal world as it becomes more modern to enhance the magical setting is one of the most interesting cool things i've seen in the whole 'verse
and for the first it drives me a bit crazy bc like yeah i get it but that's bc we were used to the story aang gave us of a 3 act water earth fire mastery. but the thing about that is like... first of all... aang was not a Normal Avatar. he had a short time period to master all 4 elements AND master the avatar state and was literally only 12 years old. and he DIDN'T master fire or earth. and then similarly, it DID take korra until she was 17 to master fire and earth we literally see her taking an exam in her second ever scene. she was born a waterbender in the way aang was born an airbender so idr think that's an issue... i dunno after having finished tlok i just think back on every "criticism" i see against it and beyond any of the genuine criticism most of it is literally just straight up misogyny which is crazy. and obviously homophobia.

Putting aside what nation they're from, if you were to assign a different element to bend to each member of the Gaang and Azula's crew (including all of the nonbenders) what would they be? Ex. Katara is shown to be incredibly stubborn and forceful so maybe she'd excel as an earthbender or perhaps her seemingly unending passion means she'd make a better firebender? 🤔
What do you think?
I think Katara would make a good earthbender, but I'm going to give her fire. I think it suits her. Sokka would be the earthbender. Suki would be an airbender. Zuko would be a non-bender, but still be crazy good at swords. I can't see Toph as anything other than an earthbender. Aang would be a non-bending grifter who uses parlor tricks to make people think he can bend elements
