High school - Soulmate 101
"Can someone tell me what will happen if you share the same sleeping location as your soulmate?" Jimin's professor asks, he looks up from his phone where he was texting Taehyung who was in the convenience store near the school waiting for the Jimin and his next class. The silence Jimin's professor received from the class simply answered his question.
"When you sleep as the same location as your soulmate," he started then grinned softly "Well, timezone's the same, but that's not what I meant when I said 'same location'. What I meant was the same bed, sleeping bag, couch or based on my experience; the same room."
Jimin's eyes widened when the man mentioned the word bed, but his eyes got wider if that was even possible.
"What happened?" Jimin couldn't stop himself from asking
"That was how I met my soulmate" he shook his head "No, let me rephrase that; that's how she met me. She remembered me when she woke up. And let me tell you, it was awkward because not only did she remember the dream from the night before, but all dreams prior to that."
Present day: Before bedtime.
'You're in trouble' -🐱
Jimin stared at the message Yoongi sent to him through their group chat, then he rolled his eyes as if to say 'Yeah, no shit hyung.'
'Let's hope she doesn't remember 🙏' -🐿
'Easy for you to say, when your soulmate happens to be an ARMY,' Jimin replied 'And you can't approach her without her screaming her head off
'Don't remind me,' -🐨
'It's still echoing in my head. I wish you approached her before we debuted. It would've been much more easier,' - 🐨
'You and me both, bro'-🐿
'Wait, Jimin. Aren't you supposed to be in the same bed as her right now?'-🐹
Jimin quickly snapped a selfie of half of his face and the shower head as he sat on the closed toilet bowl.
'What are you doing?' -🐻
'Hiding...'-🐥
'Why are you hiding?' -🐻
'Because'-🐥
'You're scared aren't you?' -🐨
'What?! No!'-🐥
'Then why are you hiding in the bathroom, you idiot'-🐹
'It might make things easier for you if she remembers everything, Jimin-ah' -🐿
'Hobi's right, but did you all forget? She won't remember him,' -🐱
'Oh, right,'🐻
'Someone remind me what happened again? I just woke up. I don't remember what happened to her-🐰
'Neither does she, apparently 🙄' -🐥
'Can't you just try to make her remember? Then meet up with her in the Dreamstate?'-🐰
'He could, but the question is: will she ever remember everything that went through before she was 22' -🐹
'21 in international age, hyung. Even if she does, Jimin wasn't part of her life physically. She only knew Jimin through the Dreamstate,'-🐨 Namjoon pointed out, making the chat go quiet only to get a sighing GIF from Yoongi
'You might want to try a different tactic tonight, Jimin-ah,'-🐨
All of their staff were fast asleep at this point, but the seven boys and Y/n were on the brink of falling asleep. Namjoon and Jin woke up from their slumber because of the continuous messages bombarding them from their group chat.
'You could stay with me,' Taehyung offered
'I can't just leave her here. There are cameras, and when they show all of us waking up one by one, or when a member wakes up the other, we're doomed. They'll wonder why there's one room vacant with not a single member there,'
'You do realise they can edit that out, right?' -🐰
'I don't care. That's just gonna be difficult. I'll take the couch,'
'Uh, Jimin-ah,' Namjoon says sleepily in a voice recording he sent to the group 'There's no couch in your area. We switched rooms remember?' Namjoon chuckles in a sleepy manner before he says 'Just stay in the bed with her and put a pillow in between the two of you, and don't show up in Dreamstate or hide or whatever. Make sure she doesn't see you,'
Present Day: Dreamstate
'So much for hiding' Jimin thinks as he stands in the doorway of the house, a place in the Dreamstate he's been avoiding for years, 'Let's hope she doesn't remember this tomorrow,'
"What are you doing there?" Y/n asks as Jimin looks around the house and the changes that weren't there the last time he stepped in, "Hey," she calls out to him again, this time catching his attention. Jimin's wide eyed glaze met hers and he finally remembered, 'she doesn't remember me'.
"Jimin," she calls after him and to say he was surprised was an understatement "Come in, I'm not gonna bite."
"You know me?" He asks as he slowly walks into the house, still looking around until his eyes land on a crocheted blanket half thrown on the couch, it had the mixture of the colors maroon and dark purple. He remembered starting that project, right after what happened that day and when he was done with it, he mailed it to her, but now he wonders, how did it get here?
"Duhh, I'm your companion," she half rolls her eyes, a habit she unknowingly got from him "I work for you; I should know my boss. Though I am wondering, how can I understand you? As in... fluently..." she trails off "This place is as weird as the day I arrived here,"
"Isn't that how dreams work?" He asks trying to make her believe that she really was in a random dream "You end up understanding whoever is in your dreams?"
"Not sure," she says as she sits on the couch "But, it's not my first time here. I've been able to move around in this house since I was 21. I thought it was some sort of sign that I'm too much of a homebody or something."
Jimin sat on the loveseat, still looking around; alienated but fascinated by how it changed, from the paint to the furniture to the pictures on the mantle, "You alright, Jimin?"
"Yeah, it's just that... I didn't expect you to approach me normally" he lied, then his eyes landed on her. "Why aren't you weirded out that I'm here?"
Y/n smiles then says, "I saw you before. 2019, I think, but you looked very different."
"How different?" He asks out of curiosity, letting his guard down.
"Blonde, drunk... I think, " she says, leaning back on the couch. He winces at the mention of his intoxicated state,"Skinnier," she says in almost a whisper. Jimin suddenly found the carpet interesting. He definitely didn't want to remember that part of his life. That specific week, to be exact. And he knew which moment she was talking about, he wasn't wasted; he was drunk enough to remember his actions though he had no control of his mouth and body, but in this one night, he had control of his words right after she faced him after all those years.
Dreamstate - September 2019 (Jimin, 23/ Yn, 21)
Jimin was fast asleep as soon as his head hit his pillow. He was stressed and wanted to get away from the world; from his life as an idol. He was stressed, depressed and angry, and despite his hyungs giving him quite the conversation after tonight's dinner. He went through the liquor cabinet and drank a few glasses of Yoongi's finest whiskey. He didn't expect it to hit him so hard considering he was one of the few members who had pretty good alcohol tolerance. He was knocked out cold, another thing he didn't expect was he was still drunk when he entered the Dreamstate.
"Ah fuck me," he grumbled "fucking perfect, just perfect" Jimin woke up in the Dreamstate in his usual spot behind a tree that was close to the sands of the beach, overlooking their dark house. Ever since he found that spot, it became a default that he would pop up there than in the house like he did when he was younger. It was almost as if the Dreamstate was a living environment that gave them full control on their decisions and requests. Hence, when they want something it would be given to them instantly almost magically.
Jimin walked - more like stumbled - further away from the house and to the beach, and plopped his behind on the sand as he stared at the vast ocean of the Dreamstate. Slowly his eyes caught the attention of the sky where the millions of stars sparkled in the night like glitters and the crescent moon smiling at him like a mischievous Cheshire cat. As his drunken mind pictured the smile, he grew angrier and frustrated. He got up and stumbled on his feet as he got closer to the water.
"Are you fucking happy?!" He yelled at the sky, as if the Dreamstate was a person "You give her to me, only to take her away and now my life is slowly becoming ruined," cries as he kicked the sand multiple times, making it fly everywhere. Spotting a rock the size of his palm he grabs it at hurls it at the open water yelling with all his might.
Out of breath from thrashing around, he eventually falls to his knees as he looks up again at the stars heartbroken and in a small, feeble voice he asks "Why?"
Jimin leaned forward, resting his head on top his hands as he cried "Why are you punishing me like this? I did nothing but love her the day you gave her to me. Don't take her away from me, please. I beg you. I'll do anything. Just bring her back to me. I just want her back. Please."
Eventually, Jimin stopped crying and somewhat sobered up. Still kneeling, he wipes his hands on clean part of his jeans that didn't have sand. Slightly wobbling on his legs as he gets up, he wipes his face with his forearms as he turns towards the house. On his walk, he turns to the area where he made a mess and lost his mind, then something glowed in the sand catching his attention. Bending down he picks it up gently. He dropped it. Not again.
"You're a real piece of work, Park Jimin," he scolds himself as he puts the item in his front pocket amd continues his walk towards the house. Looking up at the front porch he stops in his tracks, his breath caught on his throat as he stares at the sight before him. As if someone poured iced water down his back, he stares in disbelief.
"Woah," he heard her say to herself in awe, not noticing his presence "It's so pretty," the lights of the house slowly open as if to welcome her, reminding him of the first time they met and all the lights turned on.
They were around the age of 12 Y/n said that the lights remind her of enchanted torches that would light someone's way, usually towards hidden treasure; some sort of blessing from God. The lights turning on in our house is a blessing from God or whatever Higher Power is out there. He didn't want to believe it but in that moment, he believed in her words. She was a blessing to him. She was his treasure. And the sight of the house lighting up for the first time in six months reminded him of her words. Y/n just finished looking around the other rooms when she walked to the living room where she spotted the floor to ceiling glass windows, next to a door that gave access to the beach. She stopped in front of the door when she spotted Jimin who looked at her with tearful eyes.
"Jagiya..." he croaked, voice hoarse from his outrage earlier, as their eyes met.
But Y/n just looked at him, slowly her eyebrows furrowed in question. 'Who's that?' She wonders, slightly tilting her head in wonder. Jimin knew that action well enough to know that the doctors were right. She doesn't remember him, that simply means it's far worse when she wakes up. Jimin quietly sobbed bowing his head as he let the tears fall from his eyes. He was exhausted. He's had enough for today. Slowly turning around he walks towards the beach as he wills himself to wake up, the Dreamstate let him leave only to hear the glass door if the front porch open and Y/n's voice calling after him, but not by his name. Hobi woke up to the sound of screaming and crying, the other members had come into his and Hobi's shared room after Hobi called for Namjoon and Jin to help. At first he was mumbling in his sleep, thrashing around then he stopped, only to start crying followed by the Jimin bawling in his sleep. He wouldn't wake up at first which scared all of them considering they knew what was happening and they didn't fully know if you could get stuck in the Dreamstate. The older members had a moment of pity and regret when Jimin wouldn't wake up despite them shaking him to wake up, Hoseok was behind Jimin slightly pulling him in a sitting position only for Jimin to slightly slide as he kept thrashing. The older members regretted scolding him in the dining table earlier that evening after he arrived home from Paris and his privacy was invaded by the paparazzi who created a scandal about him when all he wanted was time away from the world; time away to forget he was an idol even just for a few days, time to heal from what he was dealing with when the cameras weren't pointed at him, time to forget and pretend that he didn't have a soulmate who has been asleep for too long.
"Jimin-ah," Namjoon shook his shoulders, the others were trying their best too, tapping his thigh, his arms, wiping his tears away, holding his hand. Their hearts broke at the sight, never seeing anything like what happening to Jimin.
Over the years there were times Jimin would wake up angry probably from and argument with Y/n while in the Dreamstate, sometimes he would wake up with a sad look on his face and they would ask if he was okay he would simply say that he was happy he wasn't ready to wake up yet. It was rare sight to see him cry in his sleep, but this was the worst one.
"Hyung, wake up please," Jungkook tried waking him up "You're scaring us,"
"Hyung, call Bang PD-nim or Sejin hyung," Yoongi instructed Jin who felt the most guilty after scolding Jimin more than Namjoon did. He couldn't look away and Yoongi had to shake his arm to snap out if his frozen state. Taking his phone out with shaky hands he dials Sejin, the last thing he wanted was for the producer to panic.
"S-Sejin hyung?" He stammered as the manager picked up.
"Jin, it's too early-"
"Hyung, I'm really sorry to wake you, but Jimin..."
"What about Jimin?" He asks groggily
"He won't wake up, hyung," Jin cried, all the boy couldn't hold their tears back as they panicked "We're trying out best but he won't wake up from the Dreamstate,"
"I'm on my way," Sejin said in a clearer voice as if it woke him up.
"Jimin-ah, wake up," Taehyung kept shaking his best friend "Please,"
"I'm sorry for yelling at you, Jimin-ah," Jin said as he tried to wake Jimin.
"We're all sorry," Namjoon said " Please wake up."
As time passed, Jimin's thrashing diminished but now he was getting warmer under Hobi's palms.
"Jungkook-ah, get a towel and run it under cold water," he instructed the youngest. "Hurry, he's warm, too warm,"
Jin ran to the front door of their door as their doorbell rang. Sejin burst through the door as soon as it opened, with Bang Sihyuk right behind him and ran to Jimin and Hobi's room.
"Anything?" Sihyuk asked them only for Hobi to respond "He still won't wake up, but he fever started,"
"That's a good sign" he said as Jungkook handed the cold wet towel to Hobi.
"I don't understand, why is he getting sick?" Jungkook asked wiping his tears "He was alright when he went to bed"
"You never took the free classes that followed Soulmate 101, didn't you?" Namjoon asked him as he watched Hobi gently run the cloth on Jimin's face, neck and arms as an attempt to bring down the temperature. Jin and Jungkook stared at Namjoon as if he grew an extra pair of heads, "What? You mean there's more than one class?" Namjoon, Hobi and Taehyung nodded while Yoongi answered "It's a common phase when heartbroken and sad to go through sleepless nights according to a few studies, but being unable to wake up from the Dreamstate was rare. If it were common, a lot of people would be hospitalized for being stuck there. Getting sick is usually a sign that the heartbreak and sadness is coming to an end, but it could also be a sign of anger and devastation. The upside is, getting sick also means that there's a possibility of waking up soon."
Yoongi's explanation made Jin and Jungkook's head want to explode, but it made sense. "That explains why you got really sick last time,"
"Yeah, we met my soulmate for the first time in the Dreamstate and I raised my voice by accident," Jin nodded "It upset her too much that she woke up, but instead of her getting sick I got sick because of the guilt and panic that she would reject me. She didn't show up until a week after I got sick."
They stared at Jimin as he started mumbling in his sleep, causing Namjoon to start shaking his shoulder again.
"Jimin-ah, wake up, kid" he whispered "Everything will get better, I promise. Wake up for us please. We're deeply sorry for what we did and what you're going through," With no response from Jimin's sleeping form, Jungkook left briefly to find another face towel to soak in cold water, but the reason behind it was he wanted to cry away from the eyes of his hyungs.
Present day: Dreamstate
"You're wrong," he tried to lie "I'm simply a manifestation of your mind; your subconscious"
"Huh?" Y/n huffed l, not believing him "Then why aren't you Namjoon instead," Jimin shrugged with a look on his face that said 'You tell me'.
"Jimin was probably the last person you saw, or" he paused dramatically, "He was probably the last person on your mind before you fell asleep,"
Y/n avoided his eyes guiltily, 'Gotcha' Jimin smirked triumphantly, "So you think about him?" He question "Is it often? If so, how often?" he leaned forward comically as if he was gossiping. Y/n scoffed leaning back in her chair, "Don't be ridiculous," he mirrored her actions.
"Y/n, be serious," he continued to mock her the way he would do to Jungkook, but in his head he was relieved that she momentarily forgot about him being familiar to her in the Dreamstate.
"I haven't had a visitor here before," she said quietly, almost in a whisper "Could you explain why I saw you years ago?" Jimin gulped, but kept his appearance up "I won't be able to answer your question about that, honestly. Because, I don't know either. You've probably seen a music video or picture of Jimin before." He shrugged again.
She hummed in agreement "Most probably,"
"So, why did you manifest me here?" He asks her
"You tell me, what the fuck are you doing here?" She bursted meeting his eyes.
"Ah," he sighed frustrated, raising an eyebrow at her. Something he'd do before he broke out in satoori, she recognised, but strangely enough the heavy satoori scolding didn't happen, insteadshe understood it fully "Don't curse. This is a peaceful place to be, don't stain it with your foul mouth,"
"Alright... Jimin," she said, eyeing him "since you're just a manifestation of my subconsciousness. You probably remember more than I do. Tell me what you know,"
'Fuck' Jimin cursed in his head repeatedly 'Ah shit... Yoongi hyung was right. I'm in trouble,'
Jimin hummed as he pretended to think about it, a finger tapping his lips, "And what good will it do to me? Any benefits from spilling your old memories? Or at least details,"
"It's more of a selfish thing," she said "Pity me, I've been here almost everyday for the past what? Three years? I don't know a single thing about this place; I'm about to lose my mind. Spare me a few details,"
"Okay," Jimin dared after a minute "Under one condition,"
"Name it," she accepted without missing a beat.
"It's pretty cliché, but since you accepted it... when you're awake, and if you feel like you're falling for Jimin or if you remember anything... or everything. Kiss him," he said. "And I don't mean peck on the lips. A real kiss."
"Of all the things," she scoffed "Why that?"
"Because deep inside you're curious and it might ease your mind," he hoped for both of them
"More like, it will get me fired," she rubbed her hands on her face in frustration
"We both know that's not true," Jimin leaned again to reach for her hands. When his hand made contact with hers, she jumped at the sensation of his hands. It felt real. She took his hands gently in hers, it felt the same way they held hands when she fixed his cufflinks. Now her curiosity was through the roof.
"Okay," she gave up.
"Good," he sighed as he looked at their interlocking hands as she explored every line on his hands like a fortune teller would, "We start tomorrow,"
"What? Why? Why not now?" She asked, startled. Jimin cocked his head towards the glass windows with a soft smile, it was sunrise. "Oh," she said sadly, seeing the sight "Fine," she sighed, looking up to his eyes that held more emotions than what she think her subconsciousness would've held. But then again, what does she know. She doesn't remember anything before she woke up in September of 2019.
