The other day a Stefan edit popped up on my explore page and there was this one scene in there where Stefan was wearing a plaid shirt.I cannot, for the life of me, remember which season it was but I think he was with Caroline at the time.You know who that shirt reminded me of?Damon in 1994 prison world! He wore the exact same plaid shirt there!I don't think cast members ever used wardrobe previously worn by other characters.Did they?The only instance that comes to my mind is when Katherine would pretend to be Elena and she did that plenty of times.Was there any narrative significance behind it or was it just wardrobe reusing their clothes just like the writers reused and recycled their storylines?

Okay, so I looked up some images of Damon in the spirit world and then watched some clips specifically from the flashback episode 6x04. Damon is definitely wearing Stefan's blue plaid shirt from 1994*. I think it's narratively significant. First, I believe Stefan was living with Zach at the Salvatore Boarding house in 1994 while Damon was merely visiting. Meaning Stefan kept an entire wardrobe there, but Damon may not have. So, Damon wears Stefan's clothes when he's locked in the prison world because that's a wardrobe that's available to him. Second, more importantly, I think Damon wore Stefan's clothes because Damon missed Stefan and wanted to feel closer to his brother. There's also an argument to be made that he wore Stefan's plaid shirt as a self-flagellation - a reminder of why Damon was trapped in the prison world in the first place (Damon killed Zach's girlfriend Gail in 1994).

*Damon wears Stefan's shirts several times. There's a picture of Damon in a light blue shirt that obviously belonged to Stefan.
