“Good News Everyone!” *attempts best Professor Farnsworth impression* I’ve been pretty absent on this platform for the past month because I’ve been madly preparing and packing for a big move! I’ve accepted a tenure track Assistant Professor position at LSUE AND IM SO EXCITED! I feel like this is the first time I’ve been able to take the time to share the news, if my head could spin around it would have been, particularly over the past week. But we are officially on the road, Louisiana bound! I’m looking forward to finding a new art community, cool restaurants, museums, and all things weird. Recommendations are welcome!!! 1/3/18 musings

4 days until moving day. 11:58am.

backstory: picture this, the middle of my senior year, and my family is moving. it’s only a couple hours away, but i have mixed feelings. on one hand, i don’t want to leave our house or my few friends, on the other hand i think there will be better people and opportunities there. but with only four days left, i’m trying to unattach myself from this house and this place.

Just a few words to describe my current situation. I’m sitting on my bed, the same one that has seen me through so much...so much pain, suicidal nights, nights dealing with health problems, nights sleeping close to friends and falling asleep feeling safe and loved.. in the room that has been my safe haven for the past 5ish years. I’m not prepared to leave. I keep telling myself that this is normal, that one day i’ll have to leave my first apartment or my future family’s home, and it will be just as hard. But life moves on. Houses are like objects, empty and worthless until you give them purpose. Leave the object empty again, and it will lose its worth. RIght? that makes no sense.

but man, i just remember our first night here. I rmember the first night in all of the houses i’ve lived in. But this one is burned in my head tonight. it was late, idk when, and i was trying to sleep. My mom was asleep in her new room, my dad and brother downstairs watching tv, and i was in my new room. the window had no blinds, so i fastened a blanket or something to block half of it. I was on my mattress, as my bed hadn’t been set up yet. The blanket i used is the same one i am covered with tonight. i stood up and wandered the hallway for a bit, which is an unusual thing for me to do. I was excited, because i liked the house and area, but it was still unfamiliar and daunting. It’s funny how it’s become the best home i’ve ever had. eventually i guess i fell asleep, and that’s all i remember.

this place has been good to me. i’m not as open to the one, however, but i can only hope that it will be just as rewarding in the end.

this post makes no sense, and no one will ready it, which is fine. I’ts just for me, anyway. To vent, to look back on, idk.

in four days i’ll have to move again. tonight i’m just savoring my safe haven for a little longer, trying to make sure i never forget these four walls and how much they mean to me.
