They came for you because you’re weak.

You’ve worked that out by now. Whatever skills or connections you had, they never really mattered. What they wanted – what they calculated that you were – was someone who would fold, out of fear, out of greed. Maybe even started to buy into their promises of a better world. And you’re glad you did fold, because of what happened to the people who defied expectations, who tried to warn their governments. Their opsec is very, very good.

There is another world a breath away from ours, separated from us by the width of an atom, the spin of an electron (or something, you don’t really know). In that world, humanity is not divided but ruled by a globe-spanning empire – advanced, prosperous, peaceful. Your handler says that they discovered the means to reach our world only recently. Your handler says they came with the best of intentions. That the Sovereign has decided, in her imperial benevolence, to assume rule over our world as well. They say that resistance is futile. It would be funny, if you weren’t so sure it was true (and you are absolutely sure – you’ve seen what they can do).

Your role is to pave the way for the inevitable annexation, making it as smooth and bloodless as possible by subverting key institutions. Supposedly, anyway. You don’t understand half of what they ask you to do, much of which involves inscrutable otherworldly technology. But you’ve been at it for a while now – sometimes alone, sometimes working with others – and bit by bit you’ve been piecing together some idea of the plan. You really might be helping to avoid a war. And perhaps, you thought, betraying your family, your country, wasn’t so bad if you were saving lives by doing it.

But now you’ve seen something you weren’t supposed to. A drop went wrong, maybe, or a contact disappeared without warning. And you’ve realised that this empire is not so united as they want you to think. The war is already here, in the shadows. You can’t trust anyone, least of all your handler. And so you are going to have to lie, and cover your tracks, and maybe worse things, just to survive a conflict in which people like you (not real spies, not trained for any of this) are utterly disposable. And there’s nowhere for you to run.

Because when you’ve turned on your entire world, no-one owes you anything anymore.

Harris Mylonas and Scott Radnitz, editors of Enemies Within, define fifth columns as “domestic actors who work to undermine the national interest, in cooperation with external rivals of the state." In the 1950s, Republicans falsely accused Democrats of secretly working as fifth columnists to advance global communism. But today the MAGA faction of the GOP truly is working against America by siding with Vlad Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

Trump worshippers have detested Ukraine ever since its president, Volodymyr Zelensky, refused to be extorted by the cult's always-blameless Dear Leader. Plus, Putin has created in Russia exactly the kind of society they admire and wish to inflict on the US by imprisoning dissenters, suppressing minorities, rigging elections and using religion as a tool of oppression.

Accordingly, opposition to Ukraine, along with support for Russia, has come gushing forth from MAGA nation. Including vermin like Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene: "There is no win for Ukraine here. Russia is being very successful in their invasion.” Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon: “No Republican should vote for any money for Ukraine." Fired Faux News host Tucker Carlson: “I think we should probably take the side of Russia, if we have to choose between Russia and Ukraine.” Arizona representative Paul Gosar: “Ukraine is not our ally. Russia is not our enemy." And, last but certainly least, racist scum Nick Fuentes, who told the America First Political Action Conference last year, “I wish Putin was president of America.”

As MedCity News journalist Alaric Dearment pointed out in his legal blog Above the Law,

Their support for a fascist regime’s mission to conquer a fledgling democracy and snuff out its hard-won freedom goes far beyond party politics and shows hatred for the fundamental values of our own country.

But it's not just talk. In service to the Kremlin, Republican turncoats are working diligently to bring down America by crippling FBI counterintelligence, destroying democracy, wrecking the dollar and disbanding NATO.

In return, Putin has imposed travel sanctions on many of Trump's adversaries and critics. Including New York AG Letitia James, DOJ Special Counsel Jack Smith, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger.

In Frank Capra's 1941 film, Meet John Doe, newspaper editor Henry Connell warns the politically naïve protagonist, "Listen, pal, this fifth column stuff is pretty rotten, isn't it?" When Doe agrees, he adds: "And you'd feel like an awful sucker if you found yourself marching right in the middle of it, wouldn't you?" "Awful sucker" is an appropriate description of today's Republican MAGA clown. But so also is "fifth-column traitor.”

Because I feel like screaming into the void that is this hellsite today ....

I keep seeing commentary here and elsewhere from leftists, usually young leftists. They blame Biden for what Israel is doing to Gaza. They say they won't vote for Biden because he won't stop what Israel is doing to Gaza. They scream about how Biden is a fascist because he's willing to send money to Israel, while Israel is killing civilians in Gaza.

Let's get the obvious out of the way. What Israel is doing in Gaza is horrific, inhuman, and I have no doubt constitutes war crimes on a massive scale.

Now, go ahead, tell me. How is the U.S. supposed to get Israel to stop?

They're a sovereign country. Why the hell would they do what we tell them to?

They have a hard-right Prime Minister who needs to keep his job in order to avoid going to jail. He's basically their version of Trump. You think Trump would have listened to another country telling him not to do something?

Sure, we can cut off aid. Then what? Israel wants U.S. money, but it doesn't NEED it. It can survive without it, and it can survive without the U.S. as an ally - it's spent the last 80 years making sure of that. And if we stop selling them weapons, I can think of a couple countries willing to step up and sell them whatever they want. Biden has been putting conditions on proposed aid and U.S. arms sales to Israel for pretty much the first time in history. He's been putting the screws to Netenyahu's government in almost every diplomatic avenue possible. Also, that proposed aid package for Israel? A BIG reason that Israel money was even in there was to try and get Republicans on board with the *other*, larger parts of the aid package - like the aid to Ukraine and to Taiwan.

Now you may disagree with how he's doing this, or think Biden should just take the U.S. ball (aid) and go home. Then what? You think that actually solves anything? You think that helps the Palestinians in Gaza? You think Israel's actually going to stop? Or do you just want him to do it because it makes you feel better and then you can stop thinking about it? Serious question here. People want Biden to stop Israel. Tell me how. You will go to jail for six months," Magistrate Pritchard told James Thompson, convicted last week of assaulting Joyce Van Every.

Complainant told the court last week that accused had struck her about the face and head, knocking her down and then kicked her. He had also choked her and threatened he would kill her because she refused to go out with him, she said.

TALKING COSTS $50 --- "A" Police Court, City Hall-Magistrate Woodliffe. "Although you are a Canadian citizen, you have taken the German line with the intent of spreading defeatist propaganda among housewives for whom you worked." said Magistrate Woodliffe in A court, as he fined Edvard Lawerenz $50 and costs or 30 days for making statements prejudicial to the state and the efficient prosecution of the war.

John Robinette, special crown counsel, said the authorities did not regard the accused as a dangerous person.

Wilbert Stewart and Martin Cascone, charged with breaking into the garage of Dan Wintonek, Royce Ave., and stealing 14 tires and two batteries, and a second count of receiving stolen tires and batteries, elected trial by a higher court. They were committed for trial.

Wintonek identified nine new and two used tires produced by the crown, as his property from several numbers on the tires. Detective Lister Sullivan testified he had gone to Stewart's home where he had found the tires. Witness said Cascone had been later arrested at his home and had made a statement which he refused to sign and denied breaking into the premises from which the tires were stolen.

MOTORIST FREED --- "D" Police Court, City Hall, Magistrate Tinker.

"A truck came from behind me when I was on the sidewalk and hit me. That's all I knew." Ruth McDonald stated in the case of James Melross, who was found not guilty on a charge of dangerous driving.

Witness stated she was walking on Dundas St.

Robert Ongler said he saw one injured woman running, bent over, from the accident, and Mrs. Mae Peterman, "lying on the sidewalk with her head in a doorway. The truck had mounted the curb," he added.

Dr. W. A. Burr said he performed an autopsy on the body of Mrs. Peterman and found a fractured skull among other injuries. The accident occurred June 28.

"There was no liquor in this case," said P.C. James Titmarsh, "and the man was very frank. He had brake fluid put in earlier in the day, but found later the foot brake was not working as it should."

"I am not satisfied there is any evidence of dangerous or careless driving in this case," said Magistrate Tinker, not calling on the defence.

A charge of careless driving was dismissed.

If the bloom wasn’t happening, the goblin court and the court of wonder would probably be at war because of the broken engagement. That’s what kind of upsets me about Rue breaking it that the marriage was a political thing and a breaking of an alliance like that results in retaliation and for Rue not to take that into account is frustrating. Cuz the broken engagement would have lead to the deaths and traumatization of the lower class for the sake of the love of the upper class.

The world of international politics, which in this case is the court system, does not take into account morals and reason only power in the poker game where everyone is cheating. Just because one party can act out of care and ideals does not mean everyone else will.

In conclusion, I would like to have Hob yell at Rue that he could’ve died in the war that would have resulted from their actions cuz I think it would be angsty :)

Possible Shift in US Foreign Policy

A few days ago I talked about some analysis from Beau of the Fifth Column that suggested we might see a shift in US foreign policy soon.

The Biden administration in the US has been opposed to Netanyahu's administration in Israel for a while now, but their criticism has grown more strident of late. Biden has talked about Israel crossing a red-line, said that Netanyahu needs a come-to-jesus talk, and implied that the US might stop providing offensive weapons to Israel as a way to sanction the actions of Netanyahu's government.

Well, Chuck Schumer, the US senate majority leader, gave a speech in which he openly criticized Netanyahu's leadership in Israel. In the speech he claimed that Netanyahu's coalition no longer represents the needs of Israel and advocated for the Israeli people to hold elections to replace him, echoing the sentiments of Jewish people in Israel and the US both.

The reason I think this is important is because this is pretty much the most critical the US has been of Israel's government in my lifetime. I'm personally hoping this is a prelude to a change in how the US provides aid to Israel. Stopping all offensive weapons aid to Israel is important to me because I don't want to be complicit in the genocide of the Palestinian people, but thanks to US foreign policy (like all Americans) I am.
