Michael Hingson was in Tower One of the World Trade Center on the morning of 11 September 2001.

What sets his story apart is that Hingson is blind and was guided to safety by his guide dog, Roselle.

They were on the 78th floor when the plane hit.

Despite the chaos, Roselle remained calm, leading Hingson and several others down 1,463 steps to safety. The descent took about an hour.

Remarkably, just moments after they exited the building, Tower Two collapsed, covering them in debris. Both survived.

Hingson later said:

"While everyone ran in panic, Roselle remained totally focused on her job, while debris fell around us, and even hit us, Roselle stayed calm."

Once clear, Roselle led her owner to the safety of a subway station, where they helped a woman who had been blinded by falling debris.

Once they arrived home, Roselle immediately began playing with her retired guide dog predecessor, Linnie, as if nothing important had happened.

Hingson's story became widely known as an extraordinary tale of trust, teamwork, and the human-animal bond.

He later wrote a memoir, "Thunder Dog," detailing his experience.

In 2004, Roselle was diagnosed with immune-mediated thrombocytopenia, but medications were able to control the condition.

In March 2007, she retired from guiding after it was discovered that the medication was beginning to damage her kidneys.

Roselle passed away on 26 June 2011 at age 13.

Roselle aka sorrel aka hibiscus from flower to glass!

Growing hibiscus in my area, the Southeast US zone 8a, is pretty low-effort. I sowed the seeds in place in a sunny spot and kept the soil moist. Once the seedlings get a third set of leaves I pretty much left them alone. They started blooming in August and they'll keep going until the first frost.

The part of this hibiscus that makes the drink isn't actually the flower petals. It's the calyx, which is the part of flowers that protects the bud before it blooms. On Roselle hibiscus, this calyx continues to grow after the flower falls off and becomes tart and juicy. The seed pod will develop inside the calyx, and for making hibiscus drinks you'll want to separate them out. There's a way to use the seed pod's natural pectin to make jelly, but I haven't perfected it.

There's a couple different ways to use the calyces for drinks. You can simply pick the pods and dry them and use the dried material to steep a tea. You can also boil them in an amount of water that covers the calyces and strain out the material to create a syrup for a more concentrated flavor you can use in drink mixes. I added 3/4 cup of sugar and a generous portion of honey to mine.

The overall flavor of the Roselle hibiscus is very tart and similar to cranberry juice. I like to snack on the calyces right from the branch, they taste like warhead candies a bit. They're high in vitamin C and antioxidants, and the color is just lovely. If you have warm summers and want to grow some, I'll mail you seeds!

Drabble: Adrian In Distress

It was a sunny day on the Boiling Isles. Adrian Graye Vernworth, the Illusion Coven Head, had a lot of bad luck right now. Vitimir threw a potion at him, which turned him into a child! Adrian, who was on his way to the Owl House to visit Colli, was not amused.

To his dismay, he got kidnapped by Roselle and Dottie. "Oh, great..." Adrian whispered, clearly annoyed. Fortunately, his nephew figure Colli sensed that something was wrong. He floated as fast as he could through Bonesborough.

The small starboy with otherworldly fluffy lavender hair and a heart of gold arrived at Roselle and Dottie's shop. Since Colli was an eternal little boy, he was allowed to enter the shop. The old women immediately spotted him.

It didn't take long for them to develope an obsession with him. The crazy ladies wanted Colli for their shop as an attraction. "Thank Titan!" Adrian sighed in relief as he put his eyes on the kind and sweet eternal little boy.

"Uncle Adrian!" Colli didn't hesitate to use his magic to free him. Colli took Adrian's hand and floated up. Both of them escaped to safety. "Sadly, the little kitty boy is gone. But have you seen the other little boy? What a darling!" Roselle spoke up with a creepy expression on her face.

At the Owl House, Colli had a question. "Why are you a child?" "Vitimir pranked me with one of his potions." Adrian explained. Colli immediately used his magic to turn the illusionist back to normal. "Thank you so much, Colli!"

Colli floated up into Adrian's arms and cuddled close to him. "I'm glad that I could help you, Uncle Adrian." Adrian always felt his heart swell everytime Colli referred to him as 'Uncle'. The immortal celestial boy, who had a very sweet smile on his adorable multi-colored face, was too endearing!
