this is basically an AU me and @snazzieyama have been talking about where haikyuu characters are the actors in Hamilton, and i haven’t been able to get it out of my mind so have an obnoxiously long set of headcanons about it
(i wrote this listening to the soundtrack, proper jamming i tell you)
CAST LIST (hear me out on some of these)
alexander hamilton - hinata shoyo
aaron burr - akaashi keiji
eliza schuyler - kageyama tobio
angelica schuyler - atsumu miya
peggy schuyler - yachi hitoka
john laurens / phillip hamilton - nishinoya yuu
marquis de laffayette - bokuto koutarou
hercules mulligan - tanaka ryuunosuke
george washington - sawamura daichi
thomas jefferson - tsukishima kei
james madison - yamaguchi tadashi
king george III - oikawa tooru
maria reynolds - kozume kenma
james reynolds / the doctor - kuroo tetsurou
samuel seabury - sugawara koushi
charles lee - lev haiba
george eacker - yaku morisuke
the bullet - shimizu kiyoko
HEADCANONS
hinata auditioned for hamilton despite having literally no theatre experience besides like school musicals and like one community theatre show. he was cast in ensemble at first but worked his way up to hamilton’s understudy and then the official hamilton
tsukishima auditioned for burr. he was salty that he was cast as someone else (his dynamic with yamaguchi was too good to pass up and akaashi had a better voice for Wait For It) at first but then he immediately clashed with hinata and took great pleasure with being able to roast him every night
in Alexander Hamilton, the laffayette/jefferson and mulligan/madison parts switch actors every show so bokuto, tsukishima, tanaka and yamaguchi all get to do it. sometimes they switch it at the last minute because “please dude my grandma’s come to watch i need to be on stage as much as possible”
tanaka has the Best fun on stage. he never fails to get the crowd pumped, he is jumping around and bringing so much energy, especially in his part in yorktown. it makes you mad that its a musical and you can’t start jumping up and singing along
suga was cast as seabury because he was perfectly good at the role and they preferred kageyama as eliza, which he auditioned for originally. he’s really good at it but it took way too long for Farmer Refuted to come together because him and hinata kept bursting out laughing. they both consider each other, like, the least threatening people ever, and they couldn’t take it seriously whenever hinata would have to get in suga’s face
SOMETIMES IT STILL HAPPENS!! if you watch carefully, you might see one of their lips twitch while they try to keep a straight face. the minute suga gets off stage, someone always has some cushion or piece of clothing he can laugh into because once he started laughing while his mic was still on
THE BIGGEST CAST JOKE IS ABOUT THE HEIGHT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HAMILTON AND ELIZA!! kageyama looks so much taller than hinata (coz he is but its so noticeable when they’re alone on stage) and they torment hinata with pictures where it just looks ridiculous
oikawa always absolutely steals the show. he’s so dramatic, but he’s also one of the most simped-for cast members and sometimes he’ll throw a wink into the audience in the middle of You’ll Be Back to make things more interesting.
also the bits in act 2 where he just comes in to watch and laugh at everything that’s happening? he’s so fun! just because he’s not the main focus of the scene doesn’t mean he isn’t gonna make the most hilarious facial expressions. half the audience ends up focusing on him instead.
daichi is the most commanding washington literally ever. he just comes on and he immediately takes over the stage. he barely has to try to give the character the air of authority. literally the perfect actor for the role
he’s also been in the show the longest. was cast as washington right off the bat and has been doing the role for multiple years. it makes him the unofficial dad of the cast and the go-to for advice since he’s seen a bunch of people do every other role
the “CALL ME SON ONE MORE TIME” line was another one that took too long for them to do without laughing. daichi has been doing this for ages but when he practices with hinata, he can’t help but laugh because this is the kid who he witnessed choke on hello kitty gummies with five minutes until the show began (back when hinata was in ensemble). hinata does the line too well and its hard to take it seriously at first
akaashi singing Wait For It is the literal most beautiful part of the show. he’s an amazing actor and his voice is incredible and it’s the sort of thing you could rewatch on loop for an entire week non-stop without getting bored
bokuto got akaashi the audition for burr, and even though their characters don’t interact too much their chemistry is really good. The “everyone give it up for everyone’s favourite fighting frenchman!” line is so genuine they just really admire each other as actors
lev auditioned for lee for the sole purpose of getting the line “i’m a general, WHEEEE”. he got the role mostly because he was just,,, really good at that line
atsumu refused to interact with anyone outside of rehearsals and performances for a solid month. the instagram of the cast had loads of photos on the story that were just mugshots of him saying “day 24, atsumu still won’t talk to us :(” whenever any of the cast take over it for a day
akaashi is the second most simped-for actor in the cast (after oikawa). you can literally feel people in the audience swooning in Dear Theodosia because he’s just so sweet
when yachi found out she was the only girl in the main cast she was literally terrified. she latched onto kiyoko really quickly and there’s a ridiculous amount of pictures that every fan has seen of those two together
kiyoko is really mesmerising as the bullet!! when she’s lifted her form is just stunning she just looks really nice okay-
every wondered whether kageyama would be like,,, actually good because he just seems kind of awkward off stage, but the minute he’s on stage and following a script, he’s like the perfect eliza
nishinoya has the perfect range for both laurens and phillip. fun and friendly yet still principled and serious rebel? check. small sweet nine year old? check. charismatic flirt? check. heartbreakingly dying from a gunshot wound? check.
tsukishima is a really unique jefferson. he’s not as flamboyant as the role usually is, but he’s super sassy to make up for it. it’s really refreshing and SO fun to watch. “uh,,, france?” becomes “france.” with a ‘are you stupid’ expression
yamaguchi wasn’t expecting to get anything past ensemble but he came in to audition with tsukishima and he is so good at what few lines he has. “which I wrote!” is said with such a scandalised tone, it gets a laugh every time
everyone who knew kenma before thought he’d be too awkward to do maria but he is actually really good once he gets past the initial awkwardness, he manages to portray her like a victim really well
i’ve already done like two of these so here’s some more scenes that took too long before they didn’t burst out laughing: eliza teaching phillip to play piano in Take A Break (just imagine nishinoya and kageyama doing it i can’t-), the duel in Ten Duel Commandments (the height difference between nishinoya and lev made them laugh every time they turned around), 90% of Say No To This but especially the kiss (kenma would just stop and get off like ‘no, i can’t, i can’t do this’ every time it was about to happen while hinata just started cackling)
part of the reason noya got cast as phillip as well as laurens was because he’s one of the only people who auditioned who was shorter than hinata
in rehearsals, akaashi has fallen off the table from The Room Where It Happens because they couldn’t time him jumping while the tablecloth was pulled off. there’s a compilation of the falls on youtube, no one knows who recorded them, let alone who posted it (it was kuroo)
speaking of kuroo, he takes his like five lines and he runs with them. he’s awesome as james reynolds but he’s also the fandoms favourite instagram of the cast because he just posts all the backstage shenanigans. he’s somehow always recording whenever something is going wrong.
he also teases kenma relentlessly about how their characters are married, but kenma is having none of it. it always goes like “awe we’re married” “,,, you’re literally abusive” or “come on, do it for your husband” “i’m cheating on you”
(i stopped here to jam to That Part of Hurrican. i wrote my way out hell i wrote my way to revolution i was louder than the crack in the bell i wrote eliza love letters until she fell-)
bokuto managed to rap Guns And Ships first try. he listened to it like twice, read the lyrics, and he could immediately do it. he took ages to do a convincing french accent though, and it pained everyone
TSUKISHIMA COULDN’T DO THE FAST PART OF WASHINGTON ON YOUR SIDE AND HAD TO ASK BOKUTO FOR HELP
bokuto is just,,, such a good laffayette. he’s jumping all over the place, flexing his muscles while he does the fast raps without looking out of breath at all. it seems almost impossible
also!!!! kuroo has a ridiculous amount of videos of bokuto backstage fortnite dancing to serious songs like Burn or Its Quiet Uptown
kageyama in Burn!!! heartbreaking and beautiful but he burns his hand on the letter too often. he’s gotten used to it at this point so he only slightly flinches when the flames touch his hand. its worrying
congratulations was almost brought back because atsumu really likes it and he absolutely kills it. they recorded him singing it in like a studio and everything because its just that good
when noya found out yaku was playing eacker he was so happy because they’re both short and he already looks ridiculous and tiny enough in the first duel
tsukishima will never admit how much fun he has with “southern motherfucking democratic republicans!!!” but its so clear his eyes literally shine (he kind of carries that line coz yamaguchi and akaashi are a lot more mellow)
oikawa once got dared to fortnite dance in reynolds pamphlet when he’s throwing the one singular sheet of paper. he was going to do it but the directors found out about it and literally threatened to fire him if he did it (they did it in a rehearsal to make up for it)
you know that bit in Your Obedient Servant where its like “careful how you proceed good man, intemperate indeed good man, answer for the accusations i lay at your feet or prepare to bleed good man”? literal chills from the look on akaashi’s face when he does it
whenever other cast members get food gifts from fans and they leave them unattended atsumu will always steal them. only daichi has figured out its him and he has kept quiet on two conditions - he leaves his alone, and he gets half of all the cakes
sometimes yachi just likes to lie down in the middle of the spinny floor and spin to destress. yamaguchi joins her sometimes.
there’s always a ton of people waiting at stage door, and kuroo has made it his mission to come out first and announce everyone as they leave. people play along with it and cheer for every person. some of the cast (mainly oikawa and bokuto) make it super dramatic and do massive bows as they walk out. kageyama never fails to look bewildered despite it happening every day
oikawa chills in full king gear backstage way before and way after he needs to. like half of his instagram is selfies is him in it doing dramatic poses. he’s broken the crown too many times because it fell off his head
hinata sometimes subconsciously does the My Shot dance while he’s going about his life. he can’t escape
they can be sorted into three groups: is the literal sweetest baby to their fans and is kind of shocked they even exist, adores having fans and fully expects them to exist, and the ‘i appreciate the support but pls leave me alone i want to go home’
i don’t know how to round this off but this is getting too long and its gonna keep on going because i’m listening to the soundtrack as i write. maybe there will be a part 2 one day.

Hamilton London: Review (Oct 2018)
I saw Hamilton in London on Oct 4, 2018 (matinee show) and I decided to write a little review; I was located in the stalls, row K, seat 40 (scroll further to the bottom of the post to see where my seat was exactly). I’d been wanting to see Hamilton for about two and a half years and I bought the tickets eight months ago, and it feels so surreal that the moment I’ve been looking for is over at last. I flew out to London on Wednesday, the show was on Thursday (two show day). We got to the Victoria Palace Theatre at around 1pm and by that time, a small queue had already formed outside. We got in pretty quickly as the paperless ticketing system works great! The redeveloped theatre is absolutely beautiful, not to mention fancy as hell. They let us inside the actual stage room at 1.45pm, there’s different entries and they let us know beforehand which one to take, so we were at our seats in no matter of time. Fortunately, my seat had plenty of leg room and sitting was not uncomfortable at all. Being in 11th row, I was super close to the stage. Like, for real, I was really close. You can’t tell on the photo, but when the actors were on stage I could see every single tiny facial expression. Let’s just say that I could always see clearly whenever the actors spit while singing/rapping.
Tumblr media
I’ve written a review on each actor which I will put under the cut (it actually got really fucking long, I doubt anyone will read all of it). You will be able to tell that I actually prefer the West End company over the OBC! I only have the OBC to compare them to, anyway. One thing I want to mention beforehand (because I don’t want to write it multiple times) is that you could actually hear the cast’s British accents here and there, but overall they did a solid job at faking an American one! I rather enjoyed it whenever a bit of a British accent slipped through at certain words.
Tumblr media
Jamael Westman as Alexander Hamilton: I honestly don’t know where to start. Jamael is absolutely amazing, in my opinion a lot better than Lin! He is a perfect Alexander Hamilton and I can’t praise him enough. I’m glad he extended his contract and hopefully I’ll be able to see him again next year. He is great down to every micro-expression, like I said, he definitely beats Lin. His voice is awesome and very lovely to listen to, he hits all his notes, and he speaks clearly which made the rapping fantastic as well. He has a wonderful gentleness about him that is beautiful in That Would Be Enough and Stay Alive (Reprise); his Hurricane and his verse in The World Was Wide Enough are breathtaking. Moreover, Jamael nails the role in both acts. He has that certain playfulness in the first act and I enjoyed watching him so much. In the second act, he plays the fatherly and slightly more serious role really well, too. In contrast to the serious part, he is amazing during the Cabinet Battles and earned a lot of laughs from the crowd! Opposed to Lin (in my opinion), Jamael just fits the role a lot better physically, too. He’s young, fresh and handsome and that is mirrored in his portrayal of Hamilton. To sum it up, Jamael’s energy as Hamilton is out of this world and I’m at a loss for words.
Rachelle Ann Go as Eliza Hamilton: She didn’t particularly stand out for me, but she is still an amazing Eliza! She brings the necessary eagerness in Helpless and you could see her go through a real character arc as she grew more mature. She has a phenomenal singing voice and her acting is great, too. She’s genuinely crying in Burn and you could feel all her disgust towards Hamilton, it was amazing. Furthermore, her scream in Stay Alive (Reprise) is heartbreaking. She’s an excellent emotional singer. She’s also a lot shorter than Jamael which just made them look cute as a couple on stage.
Tumblr media
Giles Terera as Aaron Burr: I have mixed feelings about him. I had to get used to him first for a couple of songs as his lisp annoyed me a bit, particularly at the start with the spoken narration. I wasn’t a big fan of his voice but I soon realised that he’s an incredible performer! He can sing really well which he definitely shows in Wait For It and The Room Where It Happens, so as the show progresses the lisp became less noticeable and you can focus on his excellent performance and acting. Overall, he plays a different Burr than Leslie Odom Jr, and at the end I actually adored his portrayal since it’s fresh and new. I still preferred him in the second act, though. He does a great job of making Burr a victim and The World Was Wide Enough - especially the end of it - was simply beautiful.
Tumblr media
Rachel John as Angelica Schuyler: Oh my lord, she is absolute perfection. She might have beat Renée Goldsberry for me just because she has that certain something, she is a lot more fierce. Her voice is badass and she killed Satisfied! You can see her gentle side in It’s Quiet Uptown which she plays really well. She can sing, rap, act and get all the right emotions across. I’m so glad I got to see her as Angelica! I would’ve loved to see her sing Congratulations as that song seems to be written only for her. As you can tell, I’m literally speechless when it comes to her. She definitely owns the stage whenever she is on it.
Tumblr media
Obioma Ugoala as George Washington: Definitely one of my favourites. He was unreal. Imagine Chris Jackson but even better! He has a really powerful and super deep voice along with amazing vocals. He was full on yelling a few times in Right Hand Man and you definitely feel intimidated by him. He plays the comedic part in the Cabinet Battles well, which is something I haven’t seen with other Washingtons. He gives the role all the aspects that were missing and I was completely speechless after his performance! He gets the loudest applause after One Last Time as he does a particularly fantastic job during the song! His vocals are simply incredible and he dominates the tricky role of George Washington. Fun fact: He actually forgot his line “Remember, my decision on this matter is not subject to congressional approval / The only person you have to convince is me” in Cabinet Battle #2 while saying it and just changed it up quickly to “Anybody else’s opinion doesn’t matter”. I just thought that was funny, it just proves what live theatre is like.
Tumblr media
Jason Pennycooke as Marquis de Lafayette / Thomas Jefferson: Absolutely loved him! I wasn’t immediately a fan of his Lafayette because I got caught up in how different he is to Daveed Diggs. But in reality, he brings completely new energy to the role, which I enjoyed a lot. Guns And Ships is flawless, so he is really likeable in the first act. He is sort of this small, young guy who comes out of nowhere and saves the day. The second act blows everyone away! His Jefferson is perfect, probably better than Daveed’s. His version is again different but he is so funny and gets the majority of laughs! Next to Jamael as Hamilton, he does perfect comedy in the Cabinet Battles - they both do. I am basically in love with his portrayal of both characters as he brings a lot to them each. He does a stand out performance and is a true joy to watch. Although he is so very, very different to Daveed, he is very talented and awesome in his roles! Again, the second act had me completely amazed. His rapping and singing is on point and he is really flamboyant and confident. I also met him at the stage door and he’s very lovely in person. He genuinely appreciated when I told him how much I liked his portrayal and he took tons of time with everyone.
Tarinn Callender as Hercules Mulligan / James Madison: Personally one of my cast favourites as I’ve been enjoying his Instagram stories (and Cleve’s) for a year now. I was super excited to see him on stage and he was perfect! His portrayal is quite similar to Okieriete’s, but I still enjoyed it! He brings a booming energy to the group as Mulligan in the first act and he morphs perfectly into Madison in act two. He kills his rap in Yorktown and I was in love. He has this  wonderful “I’m so done with this shit” attitude about Jefferson which is funny and he gets a lot of laughs as well. Tarinn is a wonderful performer and has an amazing comedic timing! He is awesome alongside Cleve in act one, and then alongside Jason in act two. He lifts the scenes and picks up the pace. He was the nicest person ever at the stage door (I had been dying to meet him) and he took a lot of funny photos with my phone! It was a blast to see him that day, definitely my favourite part of my London trip. (I’m putting the photos he took with my phone at the end of the post.)
Cleve September as John Laurens / Philip Hamilton: My other favourite besides Tarinn! Cleve and Tarinn are an amazing duo, on and off stage. They put a lot of comedy into the first act and bring new energy to the characters’ beliefs. It is absolutely heartbreaking when John Laurens dies (right after Dear Theodosia) and Cleve is able to bring the sadness and the pride across at the same time. He is absolutely fantastic as Philip, too, I probably prefer him over Anthony Ramos. Take A Break was sooo funny, I wish everyone could see him in it! His portrayal differs from Anthony’s while he still stays true to the character. He’s so scared during Blow Us All Away and he’s genuinely shaking before the duel. Stay Alive (Reprise) is absolutely heart wrenching to watch. Cleve’s acting is flawless during the conversation between Philip and Alexander (”I did exactly as you said, Pa / I help my head up high / Even before we got to ten- / I was aiming for the sky”). He actually screams out in pain while talking and my heart shattered into pieces. He does an awesome job! Definitely a bummer that I didn’t meet him at the stage door as Cleve is such a lovely and funny person as well.
Sharon Rose as Peggy Schuyler / Maria Reynolds: She is the only understudy of the main cast that I saw but she really kills her role! I had heard recordings of Christine Allado as Maria before and thought she was amazing; therefore I was really curious to see Sharon. She is really fun-loving during The Schuyler Sisters and her portrayal as Peggy is everything it has to be. I thoroughly enjoyed watching her and she is adorable during Helpless and Satisfied. She also kills her performance as Maria during Say No To This and it reminded me more of Christine Allado’s version, rather than Jasmine Cephas Jones’s. Sharon hits every note and plays that helplessness and state of being devastated well, she’s definitely an amazing emotional singer, similar to Rachelle!
Tumblr media
Michael Jibson as King George: I wasn’t sure about him first but afterwards I can say that I definitely like his portrayal more than Jonathan Groff’s. I prefer Jonathan’s vocals as I felt like Michael was sometimes struggling with the high notes, but he absolutely owns the stage when he was on it! All of his mannerisms are superb; he might have got the most laughs and cheering from the audience. The British definitely love to make fun of themselves and poke at the Royals, it was awesome! Michael adds a lot of tiny tweaks to the character which is really creative. He changed several things about the performance as King George that make the whole portrayal a lot more fun to watch. You should definitely go see him in his role if you ever have the chance. I also met him at the stage door where he seemed like a really laid-back and nice guy!
Jack Butterworth as Samuel Seabury: Now, this is a super minor role but I thought I should mention it anyway. Jack Butterworth is a pure joy to watch as Samuel Seabury. Completely different energy compared to the OBC; Jack seems a lot more innocent and playful. Also, he is standing on a podium and Jamael is almost taller than him without a podium, just a funny thing I noticed. Jack was definitely the right casting choice (as are all the other actors involved).
Gregory Haney as Charles Lee: Another really minor role that I want to mention nevertheless. Charles Lee is usually played by Leslie Garcia Bowman so it came as a bit of a surprise to me that Gregory played the role that day. I’ve been following him for several years as he was part of the Broadway cast before and I was really excited when he starred as Charles Lee in Stay Alive! He did a really good job in both Stay Alive and Ten Duel Commandments. His “I’m a general, whee!” sounds different than the Broadway one and earns many laughs.
Ensemble - Jade Albertsen, Curtis Angus, Courtney Mae Briggs, Jack Butterworth, Jon Scott Clark, Kelly Downing, Gregory Haney, Leah Hill, Walyon Jacobs, Miriam-Teak Lee, Chris Tendai: The ensemble are the true stars of the show; they bring beautiful harmonies and mind-blowing choreographies. Leah Hill stood out for me as the Bullet and she did a beautiful job. Miriam Teak-Lee is another one who stood out in all of the dancers, I’ve heard recordings of her as Angelica (she’s actually an alternate for all the Schuyler sisters!) and she definitely has potential to rise up. Kudos to everyone in the ensemble, they’re doing an amazing job every night.
Like I said, I was pretty close to the stage. My ticket was £100 while the ticket for the seat to my right is already £250. This is because my view of the stage was slightly obstructed to the left side which didn’t matter at all. The only thing I missed was Washington’s “Me, I trusted him” during Alexander Hamilton and I couldn’t see Hamilton standing on the staircase during Satisfied. Both of those are, however, very minor things that didn’t bother me. I felt extremely close to the actors in 11th row, and it was definitely worth saving £150 (the rows in front of me are £250, too).

SO YA GIRL SAW HAMILTON IN CHICAGO 8/17/18
Ok, this is gonna be a long one, sorry! Basically every single thought I had during this performance and afterwards at the stagedoor is under the “Read More”. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
@icantthink-ofagoodname @timeandspacelord
Cast:
Hamilton- Miguel Cervantes
Burr- Tommar Wilson
Eliza- Jamila Sabares-Klemm
Angelica- Montego Glover
George Washington- Jonathan Kirkland
Lafayette/Jefferson- Colby Lewis
Hercules Mulligan/James Madison- Ebrin R. Stanley
Laurens/Philip- Jose Ramos
Peggy/Maria Reynolds- Aubin Wise
King George- Andrew Call
Full disclosure- I may or may not have burst into tears when we walked in and I saw the stage for the first time
THIS WAS OUR VIEW OF THE STAGE WE WERE SO CLOSE ALJFDAKFV;KJADFG;AKJ
Tumblr media
Act I:
- The theater EXPLODED when Miguel walked onstage for the first time it was incredible
-The ABSOLUTE POWER of “You never learned to take your TIIIIME” in the opening number when the entire company is singing I DIED
-During Aaron Burr Sir, Hamilton seemed so excited to meet Burr??? Like he was trying it play it cool but he was totally freaking out it was adorable
-My Shot was just a m a z i n g. I can’t put it into words I’m sorry
- During Schuyler Sisters, Peggy was t o t a l l y the bored little sister being dragged around by her older siblings it was the cutest thing ever
- Angelica absolutely SLAYED Burr, when she said “I want a revelation” she kinda slapped his cravat thingy around with this piece of paper she was holding (presumably some kind of newsletter)
- In farmer refuted ham and Seabury are always trying to step in front of each other/publicly humiliate each other/shove each other off the block which is really fun to watch
- King George was absolutely HILARIOUS, during the “‘Cause when push, comes to shove, I will kill your friends and family” part he literally said it like “I will KILL YOUR. FRIENDS. AND FAMILY.” I love him
- Beginning of right hand man looks like they’re underwater, the whole “British Admiral Howe’s got troops on the water” part was downright h a u n t i n g
- When Washington says “Hamilton come in, have you met Burr?”, Hamilton and Burr reply like ~college bros~, like “Yes, sir, WE KEEP MEETING!” and did this sort of handshake it was really cute
- Angelica’s first part in satisfied was happening center stage at the end of winters ball, it was so cool
-When Angelica leads Hamilton over to Eliza during Helpless, Hamilton is turned around facing Angelica, then eliza comes up behiind him sort of startling him it was really cute
- And when he says “If it takes fighting a war for us to meet it will have been worth it” and kisses her hand, Eliza looks at Angelica like “LOOK!!! LOOK AT THIS CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING” it was adorable
- The lights during the “rewind” part kept zooming into the middle while everyone rewinds to their part
- I have to say, Montego Glover was just a m a z i ng as Angelica, especially during Satisfied
- During the Story Of Tonight Reprise, Laurens, Lafayette, and Hercules are clearly drunk talking to Hamilton, and in the background some guy is just passed out on the stairs
- Tommar was INCREDIBLE during Wait For It, and at the end he sort of smooths out his coat, takes a deep breath, just sort of calming himself and reminding himself that he needs to... wait for it.
- During the beinning of Stay Alive, Eliza is on the (I guess balcony is the best word for it??) above Hamilton as she sings, almost like she’s speaking directly to him which was amazing
- Hamilton literally said “we have resorted to eating our horses” like “WE!! HAVE RESORTED!! TO EATING!!! OUR HORSES!!!” I love Miguel so much
- Also Miguel looks really good in glasses?? Like really good. Just something I noticed...
-Burr’s “okay so we’re doing this” sounded like a resigned parent talking to a bunch of toddlers
- Washington’s “go home” at the end of Meet ME Inside didn’t sound like an order like it did on the soundtrack, it sounded more like a “Son, you need to go home, this is for your own good”
- Jamila’s voice was A N G E L I C during That Would Be Enough I’m-
- Her “look out world” was kind of whispered to Hamilton it was so cute
- GWashs letter to Ham gets passed around the stage via the ensemble during Guns and Ships which looks awesome
- The sheer POWER in Yorktown you just don’t get on the recording it was incredible
- In what comes next george is very pouty and screams as if he’s throwing a tantrum before stomping offstage
- at “feeling so blue” he looks down at stage, stomps foot, spotlight turns blue
- Dear theodosia is so good my gosh Tommar and Miguel were amazing
- During the last bit of DT Eliza is in the background holding a letter for ham waiting for him to finish
- Tomorrow there’ll be more of us made me cry like always, but even more this time because nothing could prepare me for seeing it live onstage
- When Angelica goes to England she and Eliza stand on the circular thing but ham doesn’t so A goes away from him while E goes towards him which is cool
-  For Hams “constitutional convention”, Miguel’s voice goes so high he squeaks and is barely audible/his voice gives out which is really funny/cute
- Again with the POWER for nonstop, it’s just insane
Act II:
- JEFFERSON oh my god he’s so dramatic I love it
- At his entrance he kept making the applause louder whenever he noticed it quieting down
- Madison comes in coughing. Every time.
- Cabinet Battles are so funny, Ham mocks whatever tjeff does
- Also there’s a huuuge height difference between Colby and Miguel which makes it even funnier
- Tjeff, Ham, gwash have hand mics and TJeff gently sets his down when he’s done, and Madison goes to pick it up, then drops it and picks it up with his handkerchief because apparently he’s a germaphobe
- When gwash breaks them up ham hides behind him crouching while taunting tjeff it was hilarious
- In take a break ham is working on one side of turnstile while Eliza and Phillip are on other
- Jose’s Philip rap was adorable??? Like he started off sort of shy, but when Ham goes “What??” after his “you can write rhymes but you can’t write mine” he gets really excited and confident it was adorable
-When Angelica and Eliza are trying to convince Ham to go upstate with them, and Angelica sings “If you take your time, you will make your mark” essentially telling him that he’ll make his mark someday, and at the same time Eliza sings “Look around look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now” essentially telling him he doesn’t need to worry about leaving a legacy, and Hamilton looks at Angelica during that part, which I think means that he was listening to her more than Eliza??? Idk, just a theory
- Angelica’s hair is up for the rest of the show now, has a parasol and slightly different dress??
- Say no to this is So cool so amazing Aubin was amazing as Maria
And James Reynolds is up on the balcony area at the beginning watching this affair happen that was an awesome touch
Ham looks really conflicted/reluctant to hand Reynolds the check
- AUBIN WISE IS A LITERAL GODDESS AND I’M GAY* AS HECK thank you that is all
- Reynolds slaps his leg to tell Maria to come to him, she does but stops and stares at ham for a little bit but follows
- ROOM WHERE IT HAPPENS YOU CAN SEE ALL THE WANT AND CONFLICT IN BURRS FACE ITS SO MUCH LIKE THE CLASSIC DISNEY VILLAIN SONG
- Tjeff hands mic to mads to say France, and Madison said it so d e a d p a n it was great
- Washington on your side starts with just burr and jeff and then mads comes in at his “which I wrote” directed to someone off stage
- At the end Jefferson gives his resignation letter to gwash who reads it before going into one last time
- I know him was so funny, gwash passed king George in between the two songs and gwash was like a foot taller and kg just looked at the audience like ‘what’s this guy doing??’
- He was so genuinely confused the whole song and just sat down off to the side to see the rest unfold
- Adams Admin, george is just laughing/cackling the whole time
- At hams address to Adams, he drops a package of paper a few inches thick on the ground because of course he does
- Hurricane was soooo cool, started off underwater, became eye of hurricane and Miguel was just  i n c r e d i b l e during the ‘I wrote my way out of hell/I wrote my way to revolution” part. Actually just for the entire song he was incredible. And the entire performance.
- In Reynolds pamphlet, everyone has a pamphlet and is showing it to each other, george comes down and dances off to the side then in hams face
- BURRRN YOOO SO GOOD SO SAD I CRIED JAMILA WAS INCREDIBLE
- Blow us all away, instead of Phillip going up and talking to eacker politely since he is in the middle of a show, he GOES ON STAGE AND CALLS HIM OUT
- AND THE “ACTORS” ONSTAGE JUST STOP TO WATCH THIS WHOLE THING UNFOLD IT WAS HILARIOUS
- The shooting on 7 catches me by surprise every time no matter what
- Stay Alive was just?? Heart breaking?? Eliza’s scream is REAL I forgot all about it and it just WRECKED me
- Same with all of its quiet uptown honestly I was just a mess
- Jefferson looks so shocked when Madison suggests he work with Hamilton, Burr is so confident throughout this whole song but gets upset when Jefferson tells him to thank Ham for the endorsement and just gets angrier
- In your obedient servant, ensemble members are passing the letters back and forth
- at the 30 years of disagreements line, ham just sends like 10 pages of paper over to burr who’s getting more and more exasperated by the second
- Best of wives best of women—ham covers his paper (probably a letter to Eliza/his will) when Eliza comes over so she doesn’t see it
- Best of wives and best of women: Ham and Eliza were so cute??? I’m dying I love them so much
- World was wide enough—the spotlights look like a target but then turn red when he lifts his gun oh my g o o d n e s s
- Miguel’s “I imagine death” monologue was just PERFECT I cried
And at the beginning of WLWDWTYS, when Jefferson talks about “Hamilton’s financial system is a work of genius, I could undo it if I tried... And I tried.”, he makes the “and I tried” part sound like “YEAH AND I TRIED OKAY GOSH” it was kinda funny now that I think about it
- All of wlwdwtys is just so perfect and when she starts talking about the orphanage she started crying which meant I started crying
- She gasps at the very end and the whole stage is dark except for her and I heard it was because she saw us and saw us telling his story and I just. started. bawling.
(*well I’m actually bi but IM SO GAY you get it)
And then we went to the stagedoor, I GOT MY PLAYBILL SIGNED (!!!!!!!!!) BY MIGUEL, MONTEGO, COLBY, EBRIN, ANDREW, KYLE WEILER (George Eaker), A N D MALLORY MICHAELANN WHO WAS THE BULLET AT THIS PERFORMANCE AND I GOT PICTURES WITH MIGUEL, MONTEGO, AND ANDREW OH MY GOSH I WAS COMPLETELY STARSTRUCK
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(blurred out my friends’ faces for privacy reasons)
AND MIGUEL SIGNED A. HAM AS WELL AS HIS OWN NAME OH MY GOSH I’M STILL NOT OVER THIS AND I DON’T THINK I EVER WILL BE CAN YOU TELL

Walking Wounded - Chapter Fifty-Nine
The transports signalled their impending arrival while Kirk was on that third day off, so at least he was able to spend that time with Anne before having to start organizing the exodus of smugglers from their hideout. Between his crew and Vergne’s, they’d kept things under control, and the supplies to maintain the smugglers in good condition had come from Loche’s stockpiles, making the logistics of such a huge undertaking much more feasible. Still, he thought as he reviewed the incident list, the enforced idleness was affecting both the prisoners and the crew. It would be a relief to pass the bulk of the issue off on people better trained for this sort of thing. His crew were combat-trained, sure, but their training had never anticipated the need to maintain a large population of prisoners. Fights among the prisoners were becoming more common, and there were even a few fights between prisoners and crew members. “It’s not that bad, Vergne,” he said, reading over the list again. “The worst one was broken up within a few minutes and no one’s had any lasting injuries.”
“It’s the next altercation I’m worried about,” Vergne said from the viewscreen on his desk. “And the one after that. Not to mention the legal nightmare it’ll be if someone does permanent damage.”
“ETA on the transports puts them here at 0400 tomorrow. I doubt anything major will happen between now and then. In the meantime, we just get the message out to the crew that it’s not going to be much longer, and to stay alert and on their best behavior. They’ll be fine. They can hold out a bit longer.” Kirk had already drafted up a communique to that effect once he’d gotten the news.
“Does that mean you’re volunteering to stay with the phase two crew?” Vergne asked dryly, raising one perfectly arched eyebrow at him.
The plan for evacuation of the smugglers had been to split it into two phases, with the higher ranked or more potentially dangerous prisoners going first, along with the noncombatants like the women. On separate ships, of course. Phase two would load and leave a few days later, carrying the less volatile prisoners and the controlled substances found on the base. Originally the thought had been that the Enterprise would leave with phase one, and the Farragut would stay in order to accompany phase two, mainly in order to provide phase one with more manpower in case of any trouble with the prisoners. Kirk thought it over. The Farragut was easily capable of putting down an insurrection; Vergne ran a tight ship, and her crew were all seasoned. The Enterprise was still in her shakedown period, and not all of the crew were as used to their stations yet. “If you want phase one, you can have it,” he said finally. “I don’t see that it’ll make much of a difference security-wise. And we can hold on a few days longer here.”
“I definitely want phase one. You’ve got better morale facilities-- you can handle a few extra days better than I can.” Vergne brushed her hair out of her eyes, pursing her lips. “And I’ll feel better the sooner that bastard’s in rehabilitation. He’s one creepy fucker.”
“Agreed. But a couple days…” Kirk sighed. “Recommend you get him off your ship ASAP, before any of the other prisoners are dealt with.”
“You think I don’t have that covered already? Really, Jim.” Vergne’s expression still looked unsettled, however. “Off the record, just between you and me, I’m pretty sure he’s planning to kill me if he can get away with it somehow. That doesn’t bother me so much, but the fact that he doesn't act like it… you’d think you met him at a fucking church social or something. I’ve had to move four people off brig duty altogether.”
“Wait a second, that’s not--” Kirk began, and then frowned. “Huh. No, I’m wrong. Sulu said he was persuasive. I didn’t see him until Anne started staring him down, though, and I’m guessing he decided to drop the front while she was around.”
“It’s too bad they can’t be on the same ship. I could use him looking a bit less human and sympathetic,” Vergne grumbled.
“Out of the question. The last thing we need is her breaking him out of his cell to try to kill him again.” Kirk did not look over to the couch where Anne sat, hearing every word.
“I know. I wasn’t serious.” He saw her glance down to the corner of her screen, and then her back straightened. “I’d better go. My shift starts in ten minutes. Say hi to your girl for me.” She smirked.
Kirk pretended a frown. “Give it up, Ella. She’s not that into women.”
“You better hope, anyway. Vergne out.” He saw her reach forward, and then the screen cleared, leaving only the Starfleet seal.
“Even if I did prefer women, I wouldn’t be in any rush to swap you for her,” Anne said absently, her voice rising over the back of the couch with no evident effort on her part to follow it.
“Yeah, I didn’t think so,” Kirk said, amused. He adjusted the communique that he’d drafted, then sent it out and turned off his viewscreen, wandering over to where Anne was curled up. She grinned up at him, then made a quick adjustment on the padd she was holding. An iconic organ introduction from the dawn of rock and roll started to play softly. “Nice,” he said admiringly. She had good taste. Well, maybe it was more to the point to say she had compatible taste. Either way. “What’s that?” he asked, catching a glimpse of what looked like a video on the padd.
“Mmm. I was looking around. Here, what do you think of this one?” Anne asked, rapidly flicking through pictures and then passing him the padd.
Kirk settled himself on the couch beside her before looking at the padd, glancing over it as she nestled against his side. After a moment, he flicked back to the information, taking note of the address on Yorktown. “Pretty upscale,” he said, feeling himself grin and going back to the virtual tour. “I guess that answers whether we were still getting an apartment or not.”
“Why wouldn’t we?” Anne asked. “I mean, unless you think it’s a bad idea…”
“Me? Why would-- you know what, let’s not get into all that. Was there a reason you were looking at this one?”
To his relief, Anne seemed to find the idea of examining their motivations just as distasteful as he did. That was probably not a great pattern to reinforce in each other. Oh well. “I just started with the most expensive buildings, grouped them by height, then filtered out all the ones that didn’t have kitchens, balconies, garages, and suites immediately available.”
“Your priorities are so warped,” Kirk chuckled, shaking his head. “We could probably get something that would suit us just fine without having to spend credits on the premium suites. And we should be looking at furnished places.”
She could tell that he didn’t disapprove. She poked him playfully in the ribs, snickering when he flinched. Earlier that day she’d discovered that he was just a bit ticklish there, although thankfully she wasn’t being too much of a pest with it. “My priorities are just fine, thank you, and I’d rather pick my own furniture this time. I like furniture shopping.”
Kirk glanced over at her, still grinning. His apartment in San Francisco had come furnished; he'd never picked out furniture before. A sudden thought dampened his amusement. “That sounds awfully time consuming, though.”
“Not unless we argue about it,” Anne said, surprised. “Are you expecting to have pitched battles over silverware patterns or something? Because if it’s that important to you--”
Kirk waved her off, amused at the thought. Silverware, even. “No, no. I just meant that’s time we could have spent in bed if we were in a furnished apartment. And who knows how long it’ll take to get it unpacked and all...”
“Oh,” Anne said, her eyes widening. “Oh no, it’ll be done by the time we get back to Yorktown. My agent will get it taken care of. Between Mason and the lawyers, all we’ll have to do is walk off the ship and into our apartment.” She laughed. “You didn’t think I did that for myself, did you? I would never have time to write again if I had to unpack furniture in every place I ever stayed.”
“Well that’s convenient,” Kirk said. “So we just… pick out what we want and send him a list?” He thought for a moment. “What if I want a gold plated bathtub?”
Anne snickered. “He would find one, but he'd raise his eyebrows at me. Mason’s one of those stuffy British sorts.”
“This has some distinct possibilities,” Kirk said. “Okay, how about an ostrich?”
“I am not feeding an ostrich. Besides, I hear they’re bad-tempered, and I won’t live with anything that has a worse temper than I do.”
Kirk eyed her skeptically. “But…?”
“As long as he could find one for sale in the area, then yes. It would be harder if we had to import it.” Obviously seeing that he wasn’t going to stop, Anne waited for his next question, trying to smother her smile.
“The British crown jewels?” he asked.
“Be reasonable,” Anne said. “He’s not superhuman. He’d get us a very good facsimile if we absolutely had to have them, though.”
“That’s fair.” Reasonable. Kirk tried to think of something hard but technically obtainable. “The sign for the Adam Yauch Park.” Anne blinked at him. “It’s in Brooklyn, I stumbled across it once.”
Slowly, Anne said, “Well, now that I know it exists, I can always ask. The shipping would take--” Her face suddenly blanched, her pupils blowing wide and her breathing speeding up.
Alarmed, Kirk sat up. “I’ll get Bones--”
Anne caught his hand before he could drop the padd, forcing her breathing to slow. “No. Give me that.” He could feel her fingers trembling, hear the strain in her voice and the faint blurring of her accent into something a little less American.
Abruptly, he realized she was reacting to the music. It had flipped to a different artist from the same era as before, a song with a lyric line that had to evoke some seriously bad memories for Anne. “Music off,” he snapped.
“Thanks,” she said, her breathing still unnaturally slow, her eyes a battle between terror and control. “Didn’t think of that.” Despite her attempt at a smile, she didn’t seem to be coming out of the panic attack. When he reached for his communicator, however, she shook her head. “It’s not critical. I just need to calm down.”
“Is there anything that would help?” he asked.
“Do something normal until it passes.” Licking her lips, Anne leaned toward the padd and made her shaking fingers switch the music back on, this time to part of a requiem by a German composer two centuries older than their previous selections. “I’m going to stretch. Look at the apartments.”
“At what point should I start being worried?” Kirk asked, watching her stand, her knees weak. He wasn’t sure she should be doing anything physical, but this wasn’t his area of expertise, and presumably she’d spoken to Claudia about this sort of thing. Well, it couldn’t hurt to keep an eye on her. He didn’t make an issue of it, but stood up with her, moving to lean against the back of the couch, out of the way of the most open section of the room.
“Give it ten minutes before you call anyone.” She paused in the center of the area, her back to him, and began to do what he assumed was a warm-up, one he’d never seen.
Kirk looked down, paging absently through the apartments she had pulled up, but none of them could hold his interest while she was so shaky. The warm-up routine that she started seemed automatic, however, her eyes faraway when she eventually turned, and her movements becoming less precarious-seeming. He was pretty sure it was ballet. Wasn’t exactly his forte. He tried not to pay too much attention, flipping through the apartments again, this time able to pay a little more attention to them.
By the time the lacrimosa had played through twice, her breathing was slowing and her movements were far firmer. They were also more complex, and he could see how she wasn’t quite getting them as well as she wanted to, a faint frown on her brow as she repeated things. Soon she stopped, falling back to flat feet and pacing back and forth for a few moments. Then paused, scowling, and rose to the balls of her feet… then further, balancing her entire weight on the tips of her toes. She only stayed that way for a moment before sinking back down. “I shouldn’t do that,” she muttered, her accent firmly back in place. “At least I can still do it.”
Deciding it was wiser not to comment, Kirk looked down at the padd in his hands. After a couple more moments, she came over to peek at the padd. “Find anything you like?” she asked.
“A couple of them look pretty good.” He gestured to the two he’d been flipping back and forth between. One of them had less floor space, but a larger balcony.
Of course, that was the one that Anne tapped. “That’s the one I would have wanted for myself. More windows. More room to grow things.”
At this point, he honestly had no idea how long he was going to be in Yorktown. They might not have to stay for all of the trials, but he was very sure it would be longer than the two week shore leave he’d anticipated, what with testifying and all the administrative work, not to mention the torpedo refit. Point being, she might very well have time to grow things after all, and there would be less furniture to have to worry about. Also, this one had a full bath, a sunken one big enough that there could be some definite advantages. “I think that one makes more sense for us, although it’s further from the Enterprise.”
“More of an excuse to ride your motorcycle,” Anne pointed out. “And it’s higher up, too. I’ll send a message to Mason about it.”
“He’ll need my authorization codes and voiceprint--”
“Don’t worry about it. I feel like splurging. Besides, I’ve had a whole year’s worth of credits piling up on me.” Anne snagged the padd from his hands and began to tap out a message on it.
“Fair’s fair, Anne,” he said, holding out his hand for her to return it.
“If it inconveniences me, I’ll let you make up for it with that lovely mouth of yours,” she said, and there was that smile that he’d missed, the one that was so strangely modest. He couldn’t help but appreciate the contrast with the boldness of her words.
“May I remind you that I would have done that anyway?” he asked. The idea was somewhat distracting.
She didn’t lose her smile, but he could see that it wasn’t quite as firmly on as he had thought. “Then let’s skip past the part where we start thinking about what we would have done on our own and all that, and just go right to the good parts.”
Suddenly, her point of view made sense. No point in second-guessing, no point in examining motives, not when all it would do was keep upcoming unpleasant truths foremost in mind. This was still going to end… but not yet. “All right, but I get to pick the silverware,” he said, grinning and dropping his hand. “I’m willing to fight for that one.”
“Oh, you’re killing me. Fine, but this had better be worth it,” she teased.
“You haven’t had any complaints so far,” he said smugly, slipping his arm around her waist and pulling her close.

Hi I know you're probably busy with life, school, magisteriumday and all (thanks so much for that btw) but I was wondering if you could maybe write something about the squad going to see Hamilton. If you ever have the time to do so of course. Thanks for existing and making the fandom less tiny and more awesome
I know you sent this to me weeks ago, but I was struck by inspiration last night and I really hope you like it! 😊 It's jascalronmara where everyone is alive and happy and at college and it's also on ao3 under the same title! Is It A Question Of If, Sir, Or All Of Them? "I want to see Hamilton."
"What?" Call choked, craning his neck around Jasper's hair from where he was sitting on his lap to give Aaron an are you serious right now? look. "The three of us are literally cuddling on the couch right now, and Tamara's gonna come back to our room in a few minutes, and we're all around just having a great time, and you want to bring up some dead white asshole?"
"I want to see Hamilton," Aaron repeated stubbornly. "It looks really good, and they're performing in D.C. right now, and that's not far from the Collegium, and I think you'd like it."
"Besides, the guy who wrote it, directs it, and plays Alexander Hamilton is Lin-Manuel Miranda, and he did Moana, and you can't even deny that you love that movie," Jasper interjected.
Call gasped. "Traitor!"
"Because you know I'm right." The worst part? Jasper was right. Call had insisted on Moana for Polysquad Movie Night on the magic-powered laptop (optimal for cuddling) in their Collegium quad more times then anyone could care to remember. Call certainly didn't care to recall just then, especially as Jasper's smirk rose on his face (the one Call not-so-secretly adored), and so he decided to go mysteriously deaf for a while. "At any rate, the original cast from Broadway got back together-" Aaron began.
"-and we got tickets for four, with our own box, and they have just been confirmed and billed to my trust fund, so, face it, Call, we're going," Tamara announced as she marched into their room like a beautiful badass, set her equal parts shopping and studying by the door, slipped off her Adidas, took her Ray-Bans off, and plopped onto their couch next to Aaron, who gave her a quick kiss.
"Bam!" muttered Jasper, from where he was sitting underneath Call, who was wiggling and protesting at the idea of seeing Hamilton . "That's how you do it, Queen Tam! Outgunned, outmanned-"
"-Outnumbered, outplanned! We gotta make an all-out stand! I'm a' need a right hand man!" Aaron and Tamara jumped in. "What the hell." Call stared at the three of them. "You guys are so weird."
"And that's why you love us," Aaron's entire face was lit up by his smile, as his green eyes laughed happily and his hair was mussed up by the couch. Call swallowed, suddenly aware of the fact that maybe that was a small reason why he loved his signifs and they loved him, but a much more important one was Aaron's smile, or Jasper's thoughtful brown eyes, or Tamara's beautifully perfect hair and eyebrows, and suddenly aware that of course, there was no way he could say no to them when Jasper, Tamara, and Aaron were so beautiful, so cute, and so adorably excited about Hamilton. ~~~~~~~~
Call was plunged into a world of rapping Revolutionaries, "dun dun nun dun dun, dun ni na," and " pardon me, are you Call, y'all?" in a matter of minutes. During the drive to D.C., Tamara took shotgun while Aaron drove, for the most part, and she had The Hamilton Mixtape on continual replay, because "sorry, I don't make the rules and if you haven't listened to the Broadway recording yet you don't deserve to until after we watch the show- IMMIGRANTS! WE GET THE JOB DONE!" she screeched suddenly, as the refrain for her and Jasper's favorite track played.
Aaron nearly slammed into some senior citizen's Prius.
~~~~~~~~~
The four of them collapsed onto the too-small hotel bed at one in the morning, having finally arrived in D.C. after three Hamilton Mixtape-related near-wrecks, the Ten Duel Commandments played at least five times, and all twenty-four tracks on the mixtape being played at least twice, and somehow, despite their deep-set exhaustion, managing their usual pattern (Call and Tamara, dubbed 'the small ones,' in the middle, with Jasper and Aaron curled around them, managing not to fall off the edges of the bed). Call's leg was throbbing horribly but there was no way he wanted to move, not at all, because there wasn't any force in hell or heaven that would make him be sufficiently motivated to get off the bed, not with Jasper's arms around him as he snored softly and Tamara smooshed up against him, dead to the world, and as Aaron's luminous green eyes met his gray ones, filled with the deadening tiredness that only hours of driving in the dark could bring, and then Aaron gave a half smile as they looked at each other, and that was the last thing Call remembered before fading warmly into the dark.~~~~~~~
The next afternoon, Jasper insisted on he, Call, and Aaron wearing suits "somewhat because I want us to look nice and mostly because I want your asses to look even better," and Tamara was absolutely stunning in an ivory and gold skirt and crop top, and honestly Aaron looked like he was about to cry because of how hot his signifs looked, and Jasper interceded luckily with a "it's time to go," before Aaron could ruin his on fleek eyeliner. Call couldn't help but feel the same way as he watched Tamara, Jasper, and Aaron walk somewhat ahead of him on their way to the taxi and to the theater.
~~~~~~~~~
Call hadn't expected the cacophony of people that nevertheless surrounded the theatre entrance. He could hear a large amount of off-key singing, men nearly crying at the ticket office as they begged for tickets, and, mysteriously, on one memorable occasion, a rather small child screaming "PAY YOUR FUCKING TAXES!"
Tamara nimbly lead them through the crowd (god Call was so bisexual), flashing her phone with the tickets on it to some waiter or server dude with a suit on (an usher? Is that what those were called? Call had no idea) who did some sort of little bow to her, said "This way, Miss Tamara," and lead the four of them through some sort of private door. Immediately, the crowd surged towards the door, absolutely determined to get inside one way or another, but Aaron (who was so strong and Call loved it) decisively slammed it shut. The usher lead Tamara, Jasper, Aaron and Call up a staircase (he levitated a small bit, just to help his leg, but Call didn't think that the guy noticed) (hopefully) to their box, and departed.
"I want to sit on your lap."
"Call, no."
"Call yes."
~~~~~~~~~The lights were fading, and the theater was hushing, and Call could feel Aaron nearly tremble with excitement on his left side, and Jasper looked like he was about to cry even though nothing had happened yet on his other ("I'm just a little emotional, okay?) , and suddenly the theater was black and the curtains began to open.
A single spotlight focused on Leslie Odom Jr. as the opening notes to 'Alexander Hamilton' started, and as he began with a question: "How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a Scotsman-" and ended his part in the song so remorsefully and dramatically with "And I'm the damn fool who shot him!".
Call couldn't help but choke during Hercules Mulligan's introduction- "Lock up your daughters and horses!" and stare at the interactions between Hamilton and Laurens."Aaron, is it just me or is Lams a real thing? That's the ship name for it, right? Because there's no way they're straight. Aaron, LOOK AT THEM. LOOK AT MY BOYS SINGING ABOUT RAISING A GLASS TO FREEDOM! Aaron, those boys ain't straight. I should know!"
"Yes, babe, you're right, and we can discuss it later, but can we watch the show now?"
From Tamara's palpable excitement, Call could feel how much she loved ' The Schuyler Sisters' and he quickly understood why. It was stunning. Angelica was incredible- "include women in the sequel!", Call could already tell that Eliza was a cinnamon roll, and then there was Peggy.
Call thought Seabury might have been crying in the next song, and 'You'll Be Back' was hilarious.
He watched as Washington started forming his army and as Peggy danced with Laurens in the background at the end of 'Helpless.' 'Satisfied' was devastating, and Call snorted at Hamilton's little "oh shit" in the song after that.
And then Laurens shot that asshole Lee and Call pumped his fist in the air. Wow, he thought. I am really invested in this. How did this happen?
And then he thought, who cares? The French dude (Lafayette, right?) had a incredibly fast and mostly-unintelligible rap solo. Hamilton got to come back to the army. And then, the world turned upside down and the Americans won at Yorktown!
King George walked out again and then Burr and Hamilton started singing about Theodosia and Philip. Though Call figured that Burr sang about his kid and Alexander, Alexander screeched. "LOOK AT MY SON!"
Then came 'The Laurens Interlude.' And the four of them cried as Eliza read the letter, as Hercules took a sad swig of his drink, as Hamilton stared at her with a lost look for a few sad moments and finally declared: "I have so much work to do."
"This wasn't in the soundtrack," Aaron moaned softly. "Why? Why? "
And work he did, nonstop. Call realized that Hamilton's coping method was about as healthy as his own inferiority complex as a twelve year old- terrible. Yet he was still blown away by the choreography and his final defiant spitting out of "I AM NOT THROWING AWAY MY SHOT!" as a blackout dropped down like a curtain and a few moments later, the House lights turned on for intermission.
Jasper looked like he was about to smirk at Call and Aaron's red eyes as they exited the men's, but Aaron interceded. "Babe, don't start. We all know you were nearly bawling."
Jasper appeared thoroughly put out.
"And besides," Tamara announced as she walked near them. "We all know it gets worse."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Call nearly shouted. ~~~~~~~~~~
After the House lights faded away and everyone in the theater was settled and ready for Act II, a purple asshole (Thomas Jefferson) came onstage and flounced around with no idea of what was going on in America. Then Hamilton absolutely destroyed him in an epic rap battle. "I think they have major sexual tension," Jasper whispered in Call's ear. "Jefferson and Hamilton were like us. Before we fell in love."
Call started coughing violently.
Then the actor who had played John Laurens ( Anthony Ramos?) was apparently also playing Phillip Hamilton in Act II, part of the family Hamilton refused to take a break for. "Wanna know what both of Andy Ramos' characters have in common?" Jasper muttered softly. "Laurens and Philip both called Alexander Hamilton 'daddy' ."
Call was choking now.
But Aaron patted his back and he somehow managed to recover as Miss Maria Reynolds walked into Hamilton's life. "Dick," he could hear Tamara mutter. "You doesn't deserve Eliza."
And indeed, Hamilton didn't. He kept paying James Reynolds, and getting into fights with Jefferson and Burr, who was now a southern-motherfucking-Democratic-Republican. And then Hamilton managed to sell the nation's capital to Jefferson in exchange for his plan getting passed, so Aaron Burr became extremely jealous.
Call watched, transfixed, as George Washington stepped down from the presidency, as King George realized somewhat how the American Constitution worked, then Hamilton basically destroyed his own party during 'The Adams Administration.' "SIT DOWN JOHN!" Jasper gleefully whispered in Call's ear.
"Honey, have I ever told you how much I love you?" Call asked him in a low tone.
"Oh, yes. Loads," said Jasper confidently.
"This is not one of those times. Please be quiet so I can watch this bloody musical that you got me hooked on, babe, in peace."
Jeffershit, Mad-as-a-hatter-son, and Aaron Chilly confronted Hamilton about him supposedly lining his and James Reynolds' pockets with the Treasury- to which Hamilton responded with "No, but I am having sex with his wife and paying Reynolds to keep his mouth shut! Here! Just so everyone knows I'M NOT embezzling, I'll write my way out and write a pamphlet about how I had an affair! Yeah. That's the only way forward. It'll be published before I even have the chance to tell Eliza, so she'll find out about it by complete strangers waving my ninety-page sex scandal at her in the streets! Nice job, Alex! You're a genius!"
At least, that was how Call understood it.
Eliza sang a devastatingly heart-breaking solo while going full pyro and burning her and Hamilton's letters. "If any of you numbskulls ever date another person without talking about it to us first, I'll burn your Collegium graduating thesises after you perfect them," murmured Tamara threateningly. Call shuddered at the thought- his was twenty pages long already and he's been procrastinating...
Call couldn't help but wonder if 'Hamilton' could get any more dramatic or sadder.
It did both, because then nineteen year old Phillip Hamilton decided to a) manage a threesome with two random women he met on the street, and b) go on a crusade for his dick of a father, throw away his shot and get shot himself by George Eacker. As 'Stay Alive (Reprise)' played, as Philip lost his count at 7, Callum was bawling. Jasper and Aaron were blubbering beside him, and Call could see unshed tears glinting in Tamara's eyes from the stage lights.
Things didn't grow any happier in 'It's Quiet Uptown,' but somehow Eliza, cinnamon roll that she was, managed to forgive Hamilton. Call knew he wouldn't've.
James Madison broke the fourth wall by not wanting to sing another sad song, and Hamilton basically, in Call's opinion, bitchslapped Burr by giving Jefferson the presidency. 'Binch, you thought?'
And Burr hated that. Call got caught up in their passive-aggressive letter-sending, only to realize that bam, it wasn't passive-aggressive anymore. It was just aggressive. 'Weehawken. Dawn. Guns. Drawn. '
Hamilton was a jerk to Eliza one last time, leaving without telling 'the best of wives and best of women' the truth, yet the song was incredibly soft and mellow compared to what came next.
A duel.
As the now horribly familiar ' one two three four five six seven eight nine' began, Call could feel himself tensing up. The entire theater was on edge, enraptured. Burr sang of his enemy, of being scared for Theodosia. He fires. Time slows down as Hamilton decides to throw away his shot, as he sees the other side. His last words quote Laurens', as Laurens' last words quote Alexander's.
Burr strikes him right between the ribs, and Alexander Hamilton dies. Call realizes that now Burr's seen as the villian in their narrative. Burr sings about how he should have known that ' The World Was Wide Enough' for both Hamilton and himself. Call's pretty positive that every single person in the theater is openly sobbing. He's not even going to try to deny it.
Aaron lived.
Alexander died.
And Eliza tells their story. She's left with Alexander's writing, his need to be remembered, and her own remarkable compassion. She becomes an abolitionist and opens an orphanage for all the bastards, orphans, and sons of whores in New York City. Tears continue to roll down Call's cheeks as the final, haunting murmur of "tiiimmme..... who lives, who dies, who tells your story?" echoes through the theater.
~~~~~~~~~~
All three of his signifs' eyes were red as they exited the theater and stepped outside, holding hands and blinking in the bright D.C. sunlight. "Let's not waste any more time," announced Jasper, drawing Tamara in for a kiss on the sidewalk. White politician passersby openly stared, but Call didn't give a crap as he thought what the hell, why not? I love you all so much, and did the same thing to Aaron.

When you think of the Revolutionary War and the colonies fight for freedom, what cities come to your mind? Most people go straight for Philadelphia, Boston, and even New York City. However, hidden in the eastern coast of Virginia, right by the very spot where the colonies began their foundation in Jamestown lies the little town of Williamsburg, Virginia. Named for King William III of England when the state capitol was moved from Jamestown in 1699, today Williamsburg is a bustling city with theme parks and history all around. No words can describe the magic you feel while there, I’d compare it to that childish excitement you get when going to Disney World for the first time. However, few people seem to realize what a crucial role that this small-ish city seemed to play in the founding of our nation.
For 81 years (1699-1780) Williamsburg ruled as Virginia’s capital after the House of Burgesses decided to leave Jamestown. Many of the founders of America and major players of the American Revolution, such as George Washington, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, George Mason, and Peyton Randolph (to name a few), spent time here. In 1926, the Reverand of Bruton Parish Church, W.A.R. Goodwin and John D. Rockefeller Jr. began restoration of what is now Colonial Williamsburg. It reopened as a histrocial location in 1933 and has been providing educational services and constant preservation of the once important town since.

I’ve been to Colonial Williamsburg multiple times and I never truly get to see everything it holds. Each season holds new activities for children of all ages and new set ups in the buildings open for viewings. There’s history filled fun starting at William and Mary College and stretches all the way down Duke of Gloucester Street to the Capitol building. Duke of Gloucester Street happens to be the main street that leads straight through the center of the hustle and bustle of Colonial Williamsburg and was once strolled down by the likes of Patrick Henry, Peyton Randolph, George and Martha Washington, and even Thomas and Martha Jefferson. It’s seen soldiers held up as they were fighting for freedom a few miles away during the Battle of Yorktown in the most crucial time of the Revolutionary War. Almost every building is focused around Duke of Gloucester Street and if it’s not, the road to it is directly connected. Strolling down the street yourself, is like you’re being immersed back in to the 1700’s. The costumes, the characters, the sites! The experience of walking next to a horse drawn carriage towards a tavern while people in modern and colonial clothing hustle by you is otherworldly. Seeing the market place and being able to buy goods from an open market right off the street is a rare experience in modern times but to be buying fresh fruits and vegetables (all grown from the colonial garden) is even an experience the Royalist would enjoy.

Raleigh Tavern is a site that you may miss if you’re hurrying by to the bigger attractions or under the assumption that it’s not open due to the construction equipment currently surrounding it. However, the construction is simply due to new archaeological evidence that the tavern had a porch on the front and although it may not look like much, Raleigh Tavern has such an important history to Virginia and the founding of the United States. Built in 1717 and given the namesake for Sir Walter Raleigh who founded the lost colony of Roanoke Island, the Tavern has seen many popular faces come and go. In 1773 the House of Burgesses met in the Apollo Room and began writing letters to unite the colonies against the rule of the British. Included in these events were two young lawyers, Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry. Parties were often thrown at the Tavern, as well, including one that a recent William and Mary graduate (Thomas Jefferson) attended and subsequently embarrassed himself in not being able to talk to the beautiful hostess of the party. After the Battle of Yorktown, people celebrated from the Capitol building at the top of Duke of Gloucester street down to Raleigh’s Tavern to celebrate the miraculous surrender of the British and the signing of the Treaty of Paris. In 1824, Marquis De Lafayette, whom you should know fairly well if you’re an avid follower of Broadway’s Hamilton: An American Revolution, returned to Williamsburg for the first time since the signing of the Treaty of Paris and was treated to a feast to honor him. Even if you ignore the amazing figures who walked the halls of the tavern or even the beautiful architecture of the renovated building, you will definitely the appreciate the delicious pretzel rolls that are sold inside!
Tumblr media
Also located off of Duke of Gloucester street, is the beautiful Bruton Parish Church. Built in 1660, long before Williamsburg was thought of, and currently still an active church with the much bigger Williamsburg bustling around it. There were quite a few influential faces that attended church here including Thomas Jefferson, George Mason, George Washington, George Wythe, and Patrick Henry. In 1781, the church was used as either a Storehouse or a hospital during the siege of Yorktown; and was used again during the Civil War as a hospital during the Battle of Williamsburg. Many prominent people in Williamsburg society are buried in the graveyard behind the church including two of Martha Washington’s infant children from a previous marriage. It is also said that Nathaniel Bacon buried his fortune under one of the graves in the cemetery. Although that can be neither confirmed or denied, what can be denied is that is definitely a site you can not miss out on.

If you’re interested in Historical Haunts then the Peyton Randolph house is just right for you. Built in 1715 by William Robertson and eventually bought by the Randolph family, this house has had little reconstruction to it. Much of original house is still standing and according to most, insanely haunted. A few deaths have been reported on the grounds that the house stands on. The reasons for the haunting are usually related to either being built on a Native American burial ground or the curse put on the house by a slave who was killed by the lady of the house. People like George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and General Rochambeau were stationed here while preparing for the siege of Yorktown. It was Lafayette who claimed to have been awoken in the middle of the night by unexplained voices and feeling a heavy hand rest upon his shoulder while staying there during his US Tour in 1824. Personally, I’ve been in the Peyton Randolph house once and it was enough for me. Upon entering it was beautiful with the character telling an intriguing and heart wrenching story of the slaves kept here but I also felt such heaviness unlike anything I’ve ever felt before. It became hard for me to breathe and I got dizzy and hot. We got to a parlor room on the second floor and I immediately collapsed into a chair to listen to the last bit of the story before descending the stairwell that was still original to the home. We left the house and crossed the street and I instantly felt like a weight was lifted. I felt normal. I haven’t been back in the house since that trip in December and it gives me the goosebumps just thinking about being back in that place again. Who knows what we will experience on our trip July!
Tumblr media
Another spooky spot in Colonial Williamsburg is the George Wythe house. Although not even a bit as heavy as the Peyton Randolph house, it was more historically important than spooky even when taking the ghost stories in to account. During the siege of Yorktown, the George Wythe home was used as George Washington’s headquarters and if you visit Colonial Williamsburg in December, they have the whole home set up as it would have been while Washington was stationed there. It was also used as temporary housing for troops and Rochambeau. The tour through the home and gardens are an incredible experience. The grounds on which the house sits is a beautiful site to see and you absolutely can’t miss seeing the chicken coop! If you’re looking for a more mild haunt filled with incredible history, I definitely suggest the George Wythe house.
Tumblr media
The Capitol building became the capitol after the Statehouse in Jamestown burned down for a second time and the House of Burgesses moved to Williamsburg. In May of 1765 it was here that Patrick Henry proclaimed “Caesar had his Brutus, Charles the First his Cromwell, and George the Third-“, here is where everyone caught on to where this was going and started calling Henry Treasonous. However, Henry took a breath and finished with “…may profit by their example. If this be treason, make the most of it”. On May 15, 1776 the Capitol building is housing the House of Burgesses wherein that meeting Virginia declared they wanted American Independence and Thomas Jefferson began writing the Declaration of Independence from the records that were kept during that session with the continental congress.  The Capitol was then used until December 24, 1779 when the House of Burgesses decided that they will reconvene in May in the new Capitol of Richmond, Virginia. The Capitol building is one of the best attractions to visit at Colonial Williamsburg. The guides are extremely intelligent and paint the story of the founding of our country beautifully. It is also one of the most kid friendly tours and our 7 year old loved the tour! If you’re taking a family trip, the Capitol is to not miss!
Tumblr media
The Courthouse had two significant events happen on its steps. Benjamin Waller read the Declaration of Independence on steps, as well as, the Treaty of Paris was announced here. With the signing of the treaty, we effectively ended the Revolutionary War. I haven’t yet had the pleasure of touring the Courthouse but it is a beautiful building. We are planning on visiting it in July for our next trip and I will be able to post a more effective blog post about the Courthouse then!

My favorite place in all of Colonial Williamsburg is the Governor’s Palace. This was the home to all of the Royal Governor’s during the British Reign as well as Patrick Henry during his term as governor and then his successor Thomas Jefferson, who drew up plans to remodel, before the Capitol was moved to Richmond due to the war. So many beautiful balls and parties were constantly being held here where Virginians would commonly dance til 6-7am. During the siege of Yorktown, the palace was used as General Charles Lee’s headquarters until it was needed for a hospital. Behind the palace are elaborate gardens. In the garden off to the left from the back door, you will find a plaque to honor the 156 men and soldiers and two women that were buried in the garden during the war. The Governor’s Palace holds many original artworks and beautifully creative rooms. A room filled with swords and muskets, the bright blue of the ballroom, the red of Lady Dunmore’s room. It’s a sight that absolutely no one should ever miss!
Tumblr media
The magazine was used to store guns, ammunition, and other equipment needed for raids on the city. This little building sparked the American Revolution for Virginians. The night of April 20, 1775 Lord Dunmore, the British Governor at the time, ordered Lieutenant Henry Collins and the Royal Marines to empty the magazine and destroy the muskets after he became worried after hearing word of Patrick Henry’s infamous ‘Give me Liberty or Give me Death!” speech just days earlier. On April 27th, The word of the first shots fired had reached the town of Williamsburg. Patrick Henry rallied a group of militiamen to petition for restitution of the gun powder that Lord Dunmore had stolen from the magazine. Their restitution was granted. However, either late in the night on June 3rd or early morning June 4th, two young men snuck in to the magazine and were wounded by a booby trap set up. When news spread, a mob stormed the building on June 5th. The mob managed to chase Lord Dunmore from Williamsburg on June 8th bringing about the end of British rule in Virginia. The magazine is an absolutely remarkable place to go to see weapons used during the 1700’s. It is a very narrow and small space with lots of steps, so if that doesn’t sound fun to you, I would recommend checking out the market place beside it while the rest of your family enjoys it!
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
The last place I’m going to be talking about is Public Gaol (Jail). This was one of the first buildings requested to be built when Williamsburg was named the new capitol of Virginia. It has housed many prisoners including 15 of Blackbeard’s pirates! It’s a very short tour with the building being relatively small, however two of the original cells are still standing and then there are two recreations. They are fantastic to go in and view what jail felt like then. There is also a debtors cell located in the jailers house. It’s definitely a lot nicer than the outdoor cells. Also if you’re in to TV, a sequence from Sons of Liberty was filmed at the Public Gaol as well as the TV show Turn: Washington’s Spies on AMC has filmed quite a few times at Colonial Williamsburg!
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Not to pick on my fiance too much, but it’s come to my attention that many people don’t want to take the time to appreciate these remarkable buildings and the significance to this country that they hold. People tend to skip over places like Colonial Williamsburg because they want to sit on a beach or they’re afraid the kids won’t want to learn during a vacation. I’m here to tell you that Colonial Williamsburg is one of the most remarkable vacation spots. My daughter loves the experience and being able to even teach her teachers the things she’s learned while here. The photo opportunities are listless and the food is A+ (I especially recommend Chowning’s Tavern). Tickets are $40.00 for entrance to all the tours, however you can simply walk around and enjoy the sites and restaurants for free! Colonial Williamsburg is a home away from home for me and it means so much to my family that I’d like it to be around for generations to come. So at the end of every blog post, I’d like to link to the donation pages of each place I am writing about. We need to keep these sites preserved so everyone gets an equal opportunity to experience the history of this incredible country.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Colonial Williamsburg!

IBM's quantum cloud laptop is going commercial
Hoping that in case you construct it, they’ll come, IBM plans to roll out the world’s first commercial ‘established’ quantum-computing service a while this year, the enterprise introduced on 6 March. Named IBM Q, the device will be available over the Internet for a fee.
It’s going to not outperform conventional computers, at least no longer yet. However, the enterprise says that the device could be critical in developing a market for destiny quantum machines that can cope with complex calculations currently out trendy attain modern day classical computer systems. The cloud carrier is the present day salvo in the heated battle to build a beneficial quantum computer.
The undertaking builds on evolved around IBM’s current cloud computing provider: Quantum Experience, which contemporary can get right of entry to free of charge. That gadget went online in May additionally 2016 and currently acquired an upgraded user interface. “Having it up for ten months has taught us loads,” says physicist Jerry C expertise, who leads the quantum-computing laboratory at IBM’s research center in Yorktown Heights, New york. It has furnished a manner for researchers around the sector to preparation constructing quantum algorithms without getting admission to their own quantum computer. IBM’s overall strategy is to construct “a community and an ecosystem” around its era, C expertise says.
The company is being tight-lipped about whilst exactly IBM Q will come on-line, announcing handiest that It’ll happen this year. It’s also no longer disclosing information powerful the gadget can be, or expertise tons It’s going to value to get right of entry to. The corporation says that it has already covered up its first clients, although it could now not perceive them, saying simplest that numerous industrial partners will check and increase their very own packages for the system.
Quantum opposition Quantum computer systems harness the counter-intuitive properties cutting-edge subatomic physics, wherein bits modern statistics — called quantum bits, or qubits — can anticipate multiple states simultaneously, instead of genuinely representing a zero or 1, as bits do in classical computing. Starting inside the Nineties, theoretical physicists, along with a few at IBM, have evolved qubit-based totally algorithms that in concept could carry out positive responsibilities exponentially quicker than classical computer systems can.
However in practice, getting sufficient qubits to paintings together to run the sort of algorithm — in what’s referred to as an accepted quantum PC — has proved extraordinarily hard. Two technologies have emerged as the front-runners for handling qubits. One traps individual ions in a vacuum the usage of electric powered and magnetic fields; the alternative consists of qubits into microscopic superconducting circuits stored at a few stages above absolute 0. IBM has wager closely at the latter method.
In current years, Google has additionally entered the fray, establishing a superconducting qubit lab in Santa Barbara, California. Google, IBM, and a handful modern-day other agencies and educational labs have announced aggressive avenue maps for building machines that can outperform classical computers. But these machines could want to run on a kind of 50 qubits each. The cutting-edge document is ready 20 qubits, barely sufficient for simple computations.
Sensible matters So whilst IBM rolled out Quantum Experience — which runs on 5 superconducting qubits — a few did now not see the point. “cutting-edge folks looked at it as a publicity stunt,” says physicist Christopher Monroe, who runs an ion-entice laboratory at the College trendy Maryland in University Park. “But I think it’s a truly massive deal.”
Although it isn’t a 49a2d564f1275e1c4e633abc331547db machine, IBM had to overcome present day challenges to get Quantum Revel in on-line and make it usable for researchers who aren’t necessarily physicists and have in no way labored on a quantum PC before. That protected developing a machine that functions without the steady attention modern day the physicists who constructed it. “Putting the system on the cloud is an apparent thing to do,” Monroe says. “But it takes modern day work in getting a device to that level.”
Getting access to a device which includes Quantum Experience or IBM Q additionally method that researchers around the world could start running at the unique demanding situations state-of-the-art quantum programming. That is very exclusive from conventional coding and calls for programmers to apprehend and adapt to the restrictions trendy bodily qubits. In principle, a 5-qubit gadget is easy to simulate the usage of a classical laptop — even a computer, Monroe says. But real qubits aren’t so simple.
“The real assignment is whether you may make your set of rules paintings on actual hardware that has imperfections,” says Isaac Chuang, a physicist on the Massachusetts Institute state-of-the-art era in Cambridge.
C expertise says that IBM Q could have extra qubits than Quantum Experience, However, the agency has now not yet settled on a selected range.
Era ultra-modern the quantum cloud Quantum Revel in has to this point attracted about forty,000 users from greater than one hundred nations. Chuang, for example, used it in an internet, graduate-stage elegance on quantum computing that he taught overdue remaining yr so that scholars ought to guidance programming an actual quantum PC.
The device’s customers have executed 275,000 experiments and produced about 15 research papers. Amongst them is one wherein a crew led through Monroe and his collaborators compared the performance contemporary IBM’s superconducting gadget with that state-of-the-art a 5-qubit ion-lure gadget at Monroe’s lab1. The company’s quantum cloud provider turned into quicker, But Monroe’s machine becomes extra specific.
Monroe has co-based a begin-up called IonQ that expects to roll out a cloud-primarily based, trapped-ion quantum provider, However, he gained speculate on while. Google is planning to do the equal with its own superconducting-qubit machines, However simplest after it has made a running 50-qubit laptop, says John Martinis, who heads the agency’s quantum computing laboratory in Santa Barbara.
Meanwhile, D-Wave, an organization based totally in Burnaby, Canada, has had a quantum-computing service on the cloud due to the fact that 2010. “The middle latest our strategy is absolutely gearing in the direction state modern the cloud get entry to version,” says Jeremy Hilton, senior VP brand new structures. But D-Wave’s machines aren’t ‘popular’ computers, and can most effective run a constrained variety state-of-the-art quantum algorithms. Nevertheless, several studies agencies have used it for their initiatives.
Quantum Computing and Healthcare generation
Believe accomplishing an MRI, on a single cell in place of the entire body – taking a photo trendy the molecule or just an organization present day molecules within the mobile, figuring out and examining the trouble areas inside DNA, and developing with an extra particular prognosis and affected person remedy. This is feasible today through the precision ultra-modern Quantum Computing and Nanotechnology built into an MRI gadget.
In a current information release, IBM declared that they are very close to making a step forward in the geographical regions latest Quantum computing. contemporary some experimental successes they are contemporary build the primary Quantum laptop, that could take gain modern-day the eccentricities contemporary quantum physics and could resolve sure troubles in seconds, that might otherwise take present-day computers billions ultra-modern years to resolve.
Quantum computing is a computing device primarily based on qubits in preference to bits; wherein qubits (Quantum Bits) are primary devices state-of-the-art facts in a quantum PC. Whilst a bit can constitute simply considered one of Two possibilities which include 0 or 1, or yes or no longer, Qubits can represent many greater alternatives: zero or 1, 1 and zero, the occurrence state-of-the-art a couple of combinations trendy Qubits, and that too concurrently. So, Qubit represents an array latest opportunities and all can be calculated simultaneously taking probabilities into account.
The Qubit concept deals with very small debris (subatomic particles). It has been demonstrated that a subatomic particle can have distinctive states concurrently due to the fact the particles are never static. This is obtrusive because they flow very fast, near the rate present day light. So, a particle kingdom modern day the particle (Qubit) seems different to different observers and the particle has several states simultaneously. This is why one subatomic particle will have distinctive states and possibilities, on the identical time. We are able to use it to update bits and get better performance: a lot higher overall performance! After which, whilst you combine Qubits, that combination holds an exponentially large amount modern-day records than bits. Subatomic good judgment is a lot more powerful than binary common sense utilized in ordinary computing.
  As an end result, you can process complicated facts faster. Its fundamental packages are encryption, decryption, modeling, databases, voice recognition, structure recognition, simulation and artificial intelligence, plus many others but non-existent packages.

IBM's quantum cloud computer goes commercial
Connie Zhou/IBM
IBM will expand their quantum computing cloud service later this year.
Hoping that if you build it, they will come, IBM plans to roll out the world’s first commercial ‘universal’ quantum-computing service some time this year, the company announced on 6 March. Named IBM Q, the system will be accessible over the Internet for a fee.
It will not outperform conventional computers, at least not yet. But the company says that the system will be crucial in developing a market for future quantum machines that can handle complex calculations currently out of reach of classical computers. The cloud service is the latest salvo in the heated battle to build a useful quantum computer.
The project builds on know-how developed around IBM’s existing cloud computing service: Quantum Experience, which anyone can access for free. That system went online in May 2016 and recently received an upgraded user interface. “Having it up for ten months has taught us a lot,” says physicist Jerry Chow, who leads the quantum-computing laboratory at IBM’s research centre in Yorktown Heights, New York. It has provided a way for researchers around the world to practise building quantum algorithms without access to their own quantum computer. IBM’s overall strategy is to build “a community and an ecosystem” around its technology, Chow says.
The company is being tight-lipped about when exactly IBM Q will come online, saying only that it will happen this year. It is also not disclosing how powerful the system will be, or how much it will cost to access. The company says that it has already lined up its first clients, although it would not identify them, saying only that several commercial partners will test and develop their own applications for the machine.
Quantum competition
Quantum computers harness the counter-intuitive properties of subatomic physics, in which bits of information — called quantum bits, or qubits — can assume multiple states simultaneously, rather than simply representing a 0 or 1, as bits do in classical computing. Starting in the 1990s, theoretical physicists, including some at IBM, have developed qubit-based algorithms that in theory could perform certain tasks exponentially faster than classical computers can.
But in practice, getting enough qubits to work together to run any such algorithm — in what is known as a universal quantum computer — has proved extremely challenging. Two technologies have emerged as front-runners for handling qubits. One traps individual ions in a vacuum using electric and magnetic fields; the other incorporates qubits into microscopic superconducting circuits kept at a few degrees above absolute zero. IBM has bet heavily on the latter approach.
In recent years, Google has also entered the fray, establishing a superconducting-qubit lab in Santa Barbara, California. Google, IBM and a handful of other companies and academic labs have announced aggressive road maps for building machines that can outperform classical computers. But these machines would need to run on roughly 50 qubits each. The current record is about 20 qubits, barely enough for simple computations.
Practical matters
So when IBM rolled out Quantum Experience — which runs on five superconducting qubits — some did not see the point. “A lot of folks looked at it as a publicity stunt,” says physicist Christopher Monroe, who runs an ion-trap laboratory at the University of Maryland in College Park. “But I think it’s a really big deal.”
Even though it is not a state-of-the-art machine, IBM had to overcome a number of challenges to get Quantum Experience online and make it usable for researchers who are not necessarily physicists and have never worked on a quantum computer before. That included creating a system that functions without the constant attention of the physicists who built it. “Putting the machine on the cloud is an obvious thing to do,” Monroe says. “But it takes a lot of work in getting a system to that level.”
Having access to a system such as Quantum Experience or IBM Q also means that researchers around the world could start working on the unique challenges of quantum programming. This is very different from conventional coding, and requires programmers to understand and adapt to the limitations of physical qubits. In principle, a five-qubit machine is easy to simulate using a classical computer — even a laptop, Monroe says. But real qubits are not so simple.
“The real challenge is whether you can make your algorithm work on real hardware that has imperfections,” says Isaac Chuang, a physicist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.
Chow says that IBM Q will have more qubits than Quantum Experience, but the company has not yet settled on a specific number.
Era of the quantum cloud
Quantum Experience has so far attracted about 40,000 users from more than 100 countries. Chuang, for example, used it in an online, graduate-level class on quantum computing that he taught late last year, so that students could practise programming an actual quantum computer.
The system’s users have performed 275,000 experiments and produced about 15 research papers. Among them is one in which a team led by Monroe and his collaborators compared the performance of IBM’s superconducting machine with that of a five-qubit ion-trap machine at Monroe’s lab1. The company's quantum cloud service was faster, but Monroe's machine was more precise.
Monroe has co-founded a start-up called IonQ that expects to roll out a cloud-based, trapped-ion quantum service, but he won’t speculate on when. Google is planning to do the same with its own superconducting-qubit machines, but only after it has made a working 50-qubit computer, says John Martinis, who heads the company’s quantum-computing laboratory in Santa Barbara.
Meanwhile, D-Wave, a company based in Burnaby, Canada, has had a quantum-computing service on the cloud since 2010. “The core of our strategy is really gearing towards the cloud access model,” says Jeremy Hilton, senior vice president of systems. But D-Wave's machines are not ‘universal’ computers, and can only run a limited range of quantum algorithms. Nevertheless, several research groups have used it for their projects.

@outside-the-government - Welcome to the fandom! I absolutely ADORE your fic about Leonard rescuing the reader from a crippled starbase. Your writing is incredible! I'm so excited to get to see more from you. I hope I'm one of the lucky ones in your contest, too! I'd love to see a fic featuring Bones and the reader inspired by the quote "only the wounded healer can heal." :)
Word Count: 3361 (WTF?!) Author’s Note: This totally got away from me. I hope you can see the connection to your requested quote - it feels a little tenuous, but it really is there...
You drew in a deep breath before stepping into Medbay. You’d just transferred over from Yorktown, and you were nervous. Doctor McCoy, the CMO, was the most frightening son of a bitch you’d ever had the misfortune to lay eyes on. Everything about him terrified you, from his intense stare to the way he quirked his eyebrow, like everyone in the room was an idiot. You’d only encountered him the one time before, but you weren’t likely to forget it. At least you’d won that battle...
One year prior…
“What the hell kind of sad excuse of a Med Clinic is this?” You heard him muttering under his breath as he looked around, holding a makeshift dressing against his friend’s head. The tall man was easily identifiable as a doctor, even without the telltale Science Blue top. His attitude alone was enough to make you want to choke. The truth of the matter was, it was an exceptional Med Clinic. The best on Yorktown, and second in stats only to the MedBay on the Enterprise. So the condemnation made your hackles rise.
“What seems to be the issue, gentlemen?” You asked as you approached the pair. The doctor was scowling. His friend, a definite hotty in Command Gold, was squinting through a sizeable lump forming around his eye. He had blood seeping from under the compress, and his nose was bleeding. As a quick assessment, you’d guess bar fight.
“The man’s bleeding!” The doctor barked. “Can’t you see that?”
You glanced at the rank stripes around the wrist of the gold uniform and quirked an eyebrow. “Given that you both reek of cheap bourbon, I’m going to suggest that whatever your Captain said, he probably should have been listening instead of talking,” you commented. “Have him take a seat on the biobed on your left, Doctor. Someone will be with you both shortly.”
The doctor assisted his friend over to the biobed and made to assess him. With a few taps on your PADD, you shut the assessment scanner and tricorder functions down. His attitude rubbed you the wrong way, and you weren’t going to have some shore leave asshole violate the sanctity of your Med Clinic. “The damn bed isn’t functional!” He growled, turning around to look for you. You nodded from the desk.
“That is an apt deduction, Doctor. And as I said. Someone will be with you shortly,” you retorted. You sat down to finish charting on the patient you’d just discharged. The captain wasn’t in any imminent danger, and his friend would do well to cool his heels for a bit. You could hear him muttering like an angry muppet from across the clinic, and then he fell silent. Through your lashes, without moving your head, you glanced up and saw him headed your way. You dropped your eyes back to your PADD and continued your charting.
“Now, listen here,” he started. You bit your tongue and fought not to respond. “A quick glance around this place tells me there’s nothing emergent happening. You can damn well page a doctor to deal with my friend. He is the captain -”
“That is exactly my point as well, Doctor, I’m glad you see it my way. There is nothing emergent going on in this clinic. Including your friend. I don’t care if he’s the Admiral of the fucking starbase, he can wait just like every other patient in the clinic,” you interrupted. The doctor’s jaw clenched and his lip curled.
“Where’s your clinic lead, sweetheart? I’d like to have a few words,” he growled, his tone as low and threatening as any you’d ever heard. You raised an eyebrow and rose to your feet, pulling the lab coat you wore over your uniform off. For good measure, you pulled down your sleeves, snapping them neatly as you did so, which drew the doctor’s attention to your wrists.
“Doctor Y/N Y/L/N. I’m afraid Doctor Janzen is off-duty. Bad case of Denobulan Flu. Maybe I can help. I’m the assistant director of medical care for Starbase Yorktown,” you offered. “And you are?”
He blanched. “Doctor Leonard McCoy. Enterprise.”
“Oh!” You laughed. “So this must be the famous Jim Kirk! Of course we should all bow and scrape and jump into service.” You rolled your eyes, but having nothing better to do, headed over to see to Captain Kirk.
“Hi. How can I help you? Usually new crew report to Commander Spock,” the nurse offered as she approached you. You smiled in resignation.
“I, however, am reporting to Doctor McCoy,” you sighed. She smiled and shook her head.
“Don’t worry. Everyone thinks Bones is a bear but he’s the sweetest man alive,” she reassured you. “Of course, I never said that.”
“Oh, this is a bear I’ve tangled with before,” you laughed in response. “I’m a little concerned he’ll remember.”
“Y/L/N! It’s about damn time!” You heard the familiar bark from the office at the back of the MedBay. “Report for duty!”
You made your way back to the office and stepped inside the door, spine rigid with nervousness. You held out the PADD with your reassignment orders. “Doctor McCoy, I think you’ll find my orders to -”
“I requested you, you know,” he interrupted, snatching the PADD from your hand and signing off on the transfer orders. “After the shit I went through thanks to your report, when I saw your demotion on record, I decided I just had to have you here. Says in your personnel file you’re a little light on emergency experience. You’ll be running away teams for the next few weeks.”
“However you see fit to utilize my abilities, Doctor McCoy,” you replied. You weren’t about to offer that you’d taken a voluntary demotion in order to get away from Yorktown after the messy separation from your ex. It was kind of difficult to get away from someone when they were also your boss. You’d made the classic mistake of falling in love with your commanding officer. By accepting the position on the Enterprise, you were guaranteeing you wouldn’t make the same mistake a second time. And make no mistake, you accepted the position on the Enterprise. Starfleet Command owed you right of first refusal on your new posting.
“Go ahead and get settled in your quarters,” he ordered. “And be back bright and early for Alpha.”
The man hated you, you realized. You’d realized it the moment you stepped into his MedBay, but it became more and more apparent with every away team assignment. The operations department crew all seemed to live by the idea that even the safest planets should result in mass casualties. No one could fault your triage skills, and even McCoy wasn’t complaining about how weighed down with supplies you were when you left on away missions. Even by his standards, it seemed, things were getting ridiculous. But this time was worse. This time you returned alone save one heavily injured ensign. Scotty had teleported you while you did compressions, trying to save the kid. He wasn’t much older than your nephew. You didn’t realize you’d appeared on the transport pad, and you absolutely didn’t hear when McCoy ordered you to be relieved. You didn’t notice until another pair of strong, confident hands laid over yours. You looked up, and met McCoy’s hazel eyes with your own.
“Y/L/N, you’re relieved,” he murmured. It might have been the first gentle thing you’d ever heard him say. You pulled your hands back and allowed him to continue resuscitating the kid, adding hypos on his orders. He finally pulled back and shook his head. “Someone mark the time for me.”
You felt your eyes fill with tears and blinked, face flushing in embarrassment. The ensign wasn’t the first patient you’d lost. You knew he wouldn’t be the last. But the past weeks had been so frustrating, and you felt like you had more in the loss column than in the wins. Without waiting to be dismissed, you pushed yourself to your feet and started off the transport pad. You dropped the empty hypo in your hand as you walked down the steps, unwilling to make eye contact with anyone lest you break and begin to sob.
Once in your quarters, you dropped onto your bed and just lay there, staring at the ceiling, numb to the reality that you were caked in grime, filth and blood. With the ensign’s death, it made you the only survivor of the ambush and you’d got away relatively unscathed. Which meant every single one of them had died to protect you. It was almost too much. You rolled to the side of the bed and dragged yourself to the shower, picking your dress away from your skin, the sound of wet release slurping and snapping as you tugged. You dropped the uniform directly into the garbage, and let your bra and underwear drop into the can as well. The shower was the perfect temperature, and you stood under the hot spray, willing the water pressure to blast away the last of the grime. You didn’t realize you were light-headed until you swayed into the wall, and the last thing you recalled was reaching for your comm in confusion.
The steady beep of the heart monitor was the only noise you heard. You opened your eyes and looked around, surprised to find yourself in a seclusion room in MedBay. You squinted against the harsh light and rubbed your eyes, yawning, and then stretching before rolling onto your side. There was a pinch at your hip and you eased yourself down onto your back again, grimacing.
“Sleeping beauty,” McCoy commented as he walked in the room. “Deigned to rejoin the land of the living?”
“What happened?” You mouth was dry, making your voice raspy and quiet.
“In the chaos of the firefight, your adrenal response kicked in and refused to acknowledge you’d been wounded. You -”
“No,” you interrupted. “I never felt anything. I was too busy trying to save someone. Anyone.”
“I wouldn’t normally recommend challenging death by using the Hippocratic Oath, but it seems to have served you well in this particular instance, Y/L/N.” The smile he gave you changed his entire countenance, and for the first time since you’d met, he looked on you with affection reflected in his warm hazel eyes. You looked away and took a deep breath, taking in the private bay you’d been tucked into. There was bouquet of flowers made of surgical tape attached to tongue depressors in a disposable urinal on your bedside table. You looked back to Doctor McCoy, a question in your eyes.
“That’d be Chapel. She misses you,” he offered. You looked down at your hands. Your nails were jagged.
“How long have I been -”
“Little less than a week. It’s hard work rebuilding the liver. I felt it better to keep you sedated.” He was speaking so gently you nearly didn’t recognize him.
“So my liver?”
“The phaser shot cooked the right lobe, gallbladder, common bile duct. M’Benga excised the damaged portions and then put you under regeneration. You no longer have your gallbladder though,” he nodded.
“And I’ll be back to work?”
“If you can get up today and go for a short walk, I’ll see about light duties in three or four.” He was tapping away on his PADD as he answered, and you knew he was working out a return to work schedule. “Yeah, that should work. I’m going to keep you on Alpha. As your attending, I want to be able to keep an eye on you. Light duties, four hours or less a day for a week, then we’ll reassess.”
“Okay.” You struggled to push yourself up in the bed, and without a word, he rose and slipped an arm under your armpit and boosted you. “Thanks.”
“Get some rest. I’ll have some clear fluids brought it. If you tolerate that, we’ll move to something more substantial.” He tucked his PADD under his arm and left the room.
You’d been back on your feet for a few days, and even the short shifts McCoy had given you were exhausting you. You were determined not to show how spent you were as you left MedBay. You didn’t want him cutting you back or worse, putting you back on rest. You stepped out into the hall, and waited until the doors slid shut behind you before slumping against a wall to catch your breath. In that moment of weakness, Jim came around the corner. Unlike McCoy, Jim had never held your previous encounter against you, and thought you were a great addition to the medical staff. Even when McCoy was dressing you down, Jim was arguing on your behalf.
“You look worn out, Y/N. Still not quite there?” He asked, linking his elbow with yours and starting your toward your quarters.
“Please don’t tell McCoy,” you asked. “I’m sure he’s just looking for a reason to dump me on the nearest Starbase for disability leave.”
“Why do you say that?” Jim’s eyebrow quirk was nowhere near as intimidating as McCoy’s, but it was still enough to make you uncomfortable.
“He hates me, Jim. He’s made it clear a million -”
“Bones doesn’t hate you,” Jim interrupted. “He finds you maddening. Probably because you dare to stand up to him when he’s ranting. No one’s really ever done that. I mean, except me.”
“I don’t know, Jim. He’s never given me any reason to think he feels anything other than contempt -”
“Give him a chance. He made a snap decision about you a long time ago that I’m sure he regrets now,” Jim broke in again as he turned you toward your door. “Trust me, Y/N. He’s my best friend. I think I know him better than you. Now get some rest. I’ll keep quiet until I get worried.”
“Thanks, Jim,” you nodded, and stepped into your room. You dropped to your bed and took a long nap.
“Y/N! Big plans for shore leave?” McCoy asked as you came on duty. You’d finally made it back to full shifts right as the captain announced a short shore leave on Yorktown. You’d immediately volunteered for the watch, desperately wanting to avoid an encounter with the ex. You’d had to admit to Jim exactly why you wanted to sacrifice leave when you were finally well enough to enjoy it, but once he’d heard your reasons, he’d approved the request.
“I’m on watch,” you admitted. You moved toward the replicator.
“There’s a coffee waiting at your desk,” McCoy offered. You stopped, glanced at him in question, and redirected yourself toward the large cup. There was still steam coming off it.
“Who do I need to thank?” You asked.
“You’re welcome,” he offered.
“Why, Doctor McCoy, I think you might have gone soft,” you dared to tease. He smirked.
“Next time I’ll lace it with cascara,” he retorted. “Now tell me, why are you on watch. Jim usually reserves that for crew that have performance concerns. I didn’t submit any concerns.”
“It was a personal request, Doctor McCoy,” you admitted, giving him a look that made it clear you didn’t want to discuss it.
“You know, Y/N, my first name is Leonard. You’re welcome to use it,” he shrugged.
“I’ll take my cues from you, Leonard.” It was the first time he’d ever used your first name.
You were perched on the edge of a table, watching the stars, sipping a glass of bourbon. It was the second night of shore leave and already you were bored to tears and counting the hours to leave being over. The doors slid open, startling you. “I thought you might be lonely. I brought a deck of cards.” It was Leonard.
“Cards?”
“You can play poker?” He asked. “I’m not a big chess fan, and it’s pretty much the only other game on the ship.”
“I can play poker,” you nodded. “Why aren’t you on the base having fun?”
“I had my fun last night. I’m a little behind on some reporting, and figured I’d get an early start on it in the morning,” he shrugged. “You got another one of those?” He nodded toward the glass in your hand. You smiled and nodded.
“Yeah, back in my room. Come on.” You started toward your quarters, and glanced back to see him following, a bemused look on his face.
He was a much better poker player than you were, but he was also a good sport, and kept your spirits up as he trounced you. You couldn’t remember the last time you’d laughed so hard. Emboldened by the drink and the pleasant company, you smiled at him.
“Why the nickname?” You asked.
“What, Bones? That’s all Jim’s doing,” he replied, draining his glass before refilling it. “You can’t drink this all, you’re on duty.”
“I can drink that all, my liver is still recovering,” you countered. “So what’s the story? Why’d he give it to you?”
“We met on the shuttle to the Academy. My wife - my ex-wife - had just cleaned me out in the divorce. I said something about having nothing left but my bones. It stuck,” Leonard admitted. You smiled.
“I know that feeling,” you admitted.
“Pretty thing like you? You’ve never known a day of heartbreak, I bet,” he scoffed. You raised an eyebrow, enjoyed how pronounced his accent got when he was relaxed.
“Remember how excited you were that I’d been demoted?” You asked. He nodded. “Yeah, that was a voluntary demotion to get me out of my assignment. I couldn’t bear to have to work beside him every day.” He sat up and studied your face.
“Not sure what’s worse,” he commented. “Losing an entire planet or losing career trajectory.”
“I’d rather be doing what I’m doing here on the Enterprise,” you admitted. “I like the crew, I like the work. I was a trauma doc before I took the post on Yorktown. This is more my wheelhouse.”
“I can’t imagine not wanting to look across a MedBay at you,” he blurted. You locked gazes with him.
“What?” You flinched, thinking you must have misunderstood him.
“I didn’t realize how much I’d come to depend on your expertise until you nearly died on me,” he quickly covered.
“But you hate me,” you countered, remembering your conversation with Jim.
“You aggravate me because your level of competence is equal to my own. You infuriate me because you question my every decision. The calm way you approach every emergency makes my anxiety explode and I want to shake some sense into you when you act like you aren’t putting your life at risk every time you casually don’t even notice you’ve been injured on an away mission.” The admission poured out of him in a rush. “But I don’t hate you.”
“What?” You were so surprised, you nearly dropped your glass.
“Why do you think M’Benga did the surgery to repair your liver?” He asked, throwing his hands up in frustration. “I couldn’t hold a laser scalpel still enough. I would have carved you up like Jack the Ripper.”
“I don’t underst-”
“I don’t either, but damnit woman, I thought I was dying when I found you bleeding out in your shower,” he interrupted, pushing away from the table. He stood up and turned away from you, running a hand through his hair. And suddenly you realized what he was saying. He turned back to you, and he looked so vulnerable that your heart tightened. “I’m sure I’ve destroyed any chance of -”
You got to your feet and wrapped your arms around his waist, leaning against him. You drank in the scent of him, that had become so familiar over the past months. Bourbon, antiseptic, cinnamon and some unidentifiable scent that was just McCoy. “This could be a huge mistake,” you murmured against his uniform as his arms dropped around you and pulled him just that touch closer.
“I’m sure it is a huge one,” he chuckled. “But it feels okay right now.”
