he wanted to scream and curse her name , because she took choice away from him. she may as well have killed him when she set herself ablaze.𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 , how could he continue when there was so much he was regretting. he wished he could rewind time ; if these creatures could exist couldn’t he find a way to bring her back? rachel… rachel… it took him a moment to realize he was repeating her name out loud. his throat was raw and dry. he was rocking back and forth, trying to calm himself down. he hadn’t noticed the lieutenant standing above him. eyes shoot to look at him, there's an odd look in his eyes when they meet jasons; he can’t seem to keep contact and he can’t make sense of what he’s saying… he desperately attempts to steady himself. you are the colonel, he reminds himself

❛ lieutenant… im... not okay… ❜ he mutters. ❛ can you just, sit here for a while, with me. i’m having a hard time distinguishing what is real, and what’s not. ❜ it was hard to admit this but he needed to face reality before facing the creatures that were beyond this point, he couldn't risk his life or his teammate's lives.

Baez, 37, of Pomona, CA died June 15, 2006 as a result of enemy small arms fire while conducting combat operations in al-Anbar province, Iraq. Baez was a Hospital Corpsman assigned to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward). Doc "Cid" Baez was a former Force Recon Marine, and cross service transferred to become a Devil Doc. He was an exemplary brother in arms, and an outstanding, well respected Corpsman. In a lifetime of battles he'd assembled his armor and his weapons which had served him well in those times of trouble. Some of it been given to him by his father, other pieces he picked up along the way. He recognized that, as a human, his mission had changed and now he must take off this armor and swim or it will drown him. Once in a while he had to go out and put it back on and each time he returned from the chaos, she always knew how to welcome him back to their safe haven. He didn't know how she learned to do that; but, she'd always been the only one who could ever get him to drop his guard. She was the only one who could calm the fury that rises in his dreams and erupts in waking; gasping for air until he hears her voice and feels her hand and smells her skin and remembers where he is. Safe in their bed, armor hung out to dry. "Yes," you said, "that armor is cunning, and kept you safe in War. Me.
