#forms of address

One interesting detail that varies between Christmas Carol adaptations is exactly what Scrooge calls Bob Cratchit before his redemption. Calling him "Bob" at the end when he reveals his newfound kindness is always portrayed as a change, but it varies whether beforehand he calls him "Mr. Cratchit" or just "Cratchit."
Since the book doesn't reveal Bob's name until the Ghost of Christmas Present chapter, but just calls him "the clerk," we don't know how pre-redemption Scrooge normally addresses him.
@bethanydelleman's recent post about 19th century formalities of address has made me wonder whether "Mr. Cratchit" or just "Cratchit" would be more realistic. I have no idea how wealthy businessmen usually addressed their clerks. Since male friends commonly addressed each other by their surnames with no "Mr.," it would seem that addressing Bob as "Mr. Cratchit" would add more distance and make it clear that they're a master and employee, not friends; but at the same time, it also adds a hint of respect. Calling him just "Cratchit" seems more intimate yet ruder.
With some exceptions, I've found that in adaptations, the more reserved and "realistic" Scrooges tend to say "Mr. Cratchit," while the more caricatured Scrooges just say "Cratchit."

Peerages & Titles: everything you need to know
[A heavily researched 6.5k+ hyperfocus from my Google docs, to help your fanfics]
Disclaimers:
Sources are not consistent. You’d think they would be. They are not. I’ve corralled several reliable websites and books into something that I think makes sense, is accessible, and fits [largely] with portrayals in Bridgerton/modern media.
That being said, Bridgerton/modern media make mistakes. You might notice in reading through all this that there is something different to how it is portrayed in media. Feel free to discuss with me, I could very well be wrong, but also know that you are consuming fiction and this is intended to be fact.
However, whilst trying to be correct, many sources are modern and it is difficult to confirm how titling and forms of address may have changed in the past 200–300 years. Though, I imagine not greatly given the peerage and aristocracy still exists.
Where possible, I have used Bridgerton characters as the examples so that it is easier to make sense/contextualise it. Names in red are not characters, just placeholder names. Hence I have reduced, reused, recycled these names.
On the note of using names from within the Bridgerverse, the Marquess of Ashdown was not married when we met him. I’d also like to know what Julia Quinn has against Earls and Marquesses, Marquesses especially.
Second note of using names in the Bridgerverse, I refuse to use Baron of Kent because it is a factual/historical disaster. More on that here.
This only applies to aristocracy of Britain/UK [minimally Ireland, read here], if I do more of Europe/anywhere else I will link it below but let me know if you want that.
All of these posts may be edited/expanded at any time as my research continues.

Mario definitely went through MORE, but not all of it was bad; he fell in love with a beautiful realm, made lifelong friends, and had the quality he was always shamed for praised at last. Luigi went through a smaller quantity of tribulations, but the whole thing was tinged in idleness and hopelessness. Even though DK and Peach warmly accepted Luigi at the end of the movie, Mario was the one who earned that friendship. Part of the Weeg angst potential could be him feeling like Mario blossomed into the person he was always meant to be while Luigi wasn't there to see it and cheer him on, and he feels like he can't keep up.
Also there's the fact that Luigi was already struggling to keep up with his brother when they were just plumbers, so while he no doubt feels happy for Mario I definitely think there would also be a sense of loss that he and Mario didn't get to grow together.
Tumblr media
They had never been apart that long before, and it's just Luigi's luck that in the span of time that they were separated Mario learned all about the surrounding kingdoms, powerups and how to use them, how to fight and drive motorized war karts, and much more. So if Luigi felt like he was falling behind before, I'm willing to bet he now feels completely left in the dust. Even though they defeated Bowser together I imagine that once the high of that victory wears off, Luigi would be left with a strong sense of imposter syndrome. Sure, he saved Mario with a manhole cover... anyone would do the same. Everything after that he only managed to do with the power of the super star.
Tumblr media
In the first movie Mario struggled with being perceived as a joke and wanting to prove everyone wrong, so I think it would be interesting if Luigi spent the sequel believing himself to be a joke and wanting to fix himself, even if it means pushing himself too hard and following his brother into dangers he is not physically/emotionally ready for.

Always Sunny Fan Survey
Hello, this post is coming to you from the Bureau of Always Sunny Statistics.
We, at the bureau, are dedicated to delivering the answers to your burning Always Sunny questions. Have you ever wondered who the silent Charlie majority are that sweep every poll? Do you want to know who the public think the funniest/most attractive/most pathetic member of the gang is? Would you like to know what the most loathed and loved ships and episodes are? Would you like to pretend to be surprised when Charlie turns out to be the most popular character and macdennis the most popular ship?
Most importantly, would you like to spend way too much time (around 30-40 minutes) filling out a survey?
When I have received enough data I'll make a post going over all of the Bureau's findings. There are probably too many questions but it should autosave and so you can take breaks and complete it over a few days. Please reblog and share among IASIP fans so the Bureau can obtain lots of data.

I personally like Thunder's prosthetic. Explained it to my friend (who does use a mobility device, a cane and wheelchair, and listens to me rant and infodump about BB) and they agreed, it's important to know that not every person needs what someone wants to give them. It's another example of "bad ableist person does a thing that hurts a disabled person because they are bad and ableist".
Clear Sky got Jagged Peak killed and would have killed Sunlit Frost! He would absolutely force his disabled son to be "normal" and present it like a privilege. "I wouldn't do this for anyone else, it's special, why don't you want to be helped?"
Thunder Storm should toss it in Clear Sky's face. (I would say toss it into the river but we do not pollute waterways in this house)
Thank you for telling me this, and tell your friend I'm thanking them too! If they have anything else to add please forward what they have to say
Since BB!DOTC tackles some of the heaviest topics in the entire series because its canon equivalent is so dark, I think very carefully about what I do here and how I show it. I take feedback on its sensitive aspects very seriously. If I'm understanding the criticism properly, it's that I should avoid stigmatizing prosthetics by making sure Thunder Storm's not the only one with it-- which he's not! And I'll add even more.
I don't want to avoid something only because it's uncomfortable if the topic is important, and my portrayal is respectful. Ableism IS uncomfortable! There are some situations where a prosthetic is not wanted! I think the rejection of this particular one is both a good opportunity to show a type of ableism and ALSO is very fitting for the characters.
In BB!Clear Sky's mind, the villain, he's fixing an old mistake. He can't admit that he got Jagged Peak killed or take REAL accountability for it (though he will, occasionally, apologize insincerely), but deep in his bones, he knows what he did was cruel. He'll never tell anyone this because he doesn't really cognate it himself, but Thunder Storm NEEDS to take his gift.
If Thunder doesn't take it, it blows a hole in his newest story. You see, throwing Jagged Peak out was All That Could Have Been Done back then. It was a Tragedy and he simply Made A Hard Choice. He regrets it very much, But You Have To Understand.
But now? Now? Well, behold. Look at what he's accomplished since the tragic death of his little brother. His cats are well-fed, cared for, and stable enough to make such incredible advancements. If only Jagged Peak had been able to hold on longer, if only he could be here now, I could fix him.
Just like I can (MAKE YOU JUST LIKE ME) fix you.
"Everything I've ever done is for Jagged Peak. For Fluttering Wing. For you." Thunder Sky is SPECIAL, but if he rejects any gift, tries to turn down the "privileges" offered to him, in an instant that becomes ungratefulness and arrogance. He both forces him to be special, and then leverages it against him if it's rejected. "Spoiled brat, doesn't appreciate what I've worked so hard to give him."
It all goes back to him and his own guilt. He can NEVER be wrong. He can't accept his family doesn't have to be "normal" or reflect his own ability. He won't see himself as a bully, let alone a murderer. It was never about his son's comfort or finding out what Thunder Storm wants or needs, it was about his own ego.
...All that said I'm still taking feedback if there's anything else I should keep in mind, or if anyone has a counter point, especially if you also have experience here.
(In the interest of having a link trail for posterity, here's the critique/call for feedback this is in response to)
#ALSO also I will take suggestions on other characters who should have prosthetics#Sunlit makes sense and it will make a really nice character moment later for him to have one built#There's also an amputee in RiverClan few people talk about called Stonestream#I can give him one and bump him up into a bigger character. In BB he is the sibling of Willowshine#BB!DOTC#better bones au#Also just as a side note... I love writing BB!Skystar. My ire for the character comes from his redemption arc so I feel like I get to--#--write the character I WANTED to see#Same with Bramble in other BB arcs#cw ableism#tw ableism#ableism#They're fascinating in that they always have to see themselves as the victim or the hero#They believe every lie they tell.#If you ever catch them in a contradiction they will still try to find some way to turn it on you and YOUR lack of understanding.#Interestingly both of them are ableist. Sky's is just more obvious because he's LOUDLY bigoted.#But BB!Bramble is *notably* less close to Jay for a very sad and very subtle reason.#Jay just doesn't serve his ego like the others do until much later in his life.#unfortunately most bigotry is like that.#the type you have a hard time calling out because it's a deniable bias. the constant gaslighting of being part of a marginalized group#Maybe I need to address the criticism by adding a character with a prosthetic to THIS arc even earlier#Problem is that like... Thunder's small merc group is already full of disabled characters and their THING is forming in response to ableism#OH maybe I'll put someone in the Forest Cat group which is lead by Slash?#I need to finish that last book and then gather up all the cats for sorting into allegiances

Peerage & Titles: rank and precedence within the peerage
[Full list of disclaimers is in the master post but tl;dr is that sources for this information are not consistent, sources may be modern, and this may be edited/expanded at anytime as my research continues.]
Sovereign > Royal family > Archbishop of Canterbury > Archbishop of York > Great Officers of State [eg Prime Minister] > Peers
Peers of England > Peers of Scotland > Peers of Great Britain > Peers of the United Kingdom > Peers of Ireland
However, never will a peer of a lower rank precede one of a higher rank [regardless of peerage]
Duke > Marquess > Earl > Viscount > Baron > Baronet
A married woman will always take on the title and precedence of her husband, even if it is her subsequent marriage and/or a lower rank or title.
A dowager peeress precedes the present holder of the same title. For example; Violet precedes Anthony.
A divorced peeress is no longer entitled to the privileges and styles of peeress that their marriage granted them. However, in the case of a Duchess, she may use the title without the The. For example; if they were to divorce, Daphne would go from Your Grace, The Duchess of Hastings to Daphne, Duchess of Hastings. The inclusion of the first name is to differentiate from a future wife of The Duke. If Simon remained unmarried, Daphne may be simply Duchess of Hastings.
Duke > Marquess > Duke’s eldest son > Earl > Marquess’s eldest son > Duke’s younger son(s) > Viscount > Earl’s eldest son > Marquess’s younger son(s) > Baron > Viscount’s eldest son(s) > Earl’s younger son(s) > Baron’s eldest son(s) > Viscount’s younger son(s) > Baron’s younger son(s) > Baronets
Children of the eldest son of a peer have precedence. For example; if Edmund was still alive [meaning Anthony would not yet be Viscount] then it would be Edmund > Violet > Anthony > Baby Edmund II > Benedict > Colin > Gregory > Anthony’s younger son(s)
Daughters take precedence after the eldest son’s wife, but before the younger son(s)’s wives. For example, if Edmund was still alive, Daphne [as Duchess, as she takes her husband’s precedence] Edmund > Violet > Anthony > Kate > Benedict > Colin > Gregory > Eloise > Francesca > Hyacinth > Sophie > Penelope > Lucy.
Canon example, because Anthony is Viscount, Daphne > Violet > Anthony > Kate > Baby Edmund II > Edmund II’s wife > Anthony’s younger son’s > Anthony’s daughters > Anthony’s younger son’s wives > Benedict > Sophie > Colin > Penelope > Gregory > Lucy > Eloise > Francesca > Hyacinth. Much like Daphne, Francesca will outrank Anthony once marrying an Earl.
This one melted my brain a little ngl. Master post here. Drop any questions in my ask :)

When Gortash first starting moving up in the world the patriars must have treated him like absolute garbage. They must have despised this up jumped new money lower city rat. I'm sure they snubbed him publically and flaunted their better breeding.
And you just know that Gortash got so much sick, sadistic pleasure at watching those same people who used to snub him bow and scrape before him and be forced to call him archduke because that motherfucker never forgets a slight

I've been getting gendered as a woman so much more since claiming and presenting as butch than the prior 6 years of being out as trans and it's such an odd feeling. I find myself questioning how much my years of saying I was nonbinary stemmed from not being accepted as a woman socially. Not being viewed as such, and then not being able to view myself as such. The social influence of gender is something not as talked about and I think it should be. I don't fit as a woman within white society. Within cisheteronormative society. But, as a butch? As a two-spirit butch? Now that I'm finally being honest with myself, woman feels right again. She/her in many contexts feels right again, and honestly with some people they/them is starting to feel like a lie. When my brother calls me his sister it just fills me with so much joy. When my grandmother calls me her grandaughter I want to cry. When my femme calls me her girl, I feel at home and so loved. Womanhood is feeling right again. It's odd, but nice. I can't say this is where the gender exploration ends, but yeah.
I am a Métis two-spirit butch, and within that womanhood feels like home again 💕

1812: A sailor takes a routine trip to London, unaware that this would be the last time he'd ever see Flanders. Many lasts were soon to follow.
1861: A boy proudly joins on with the Royal Navy, signing his new name for the very first time. This is a first of many ill-advised decisions.
I can lie and say that the last ES has me thinking about what my characters looked like back on the surface, but it's actually because of a WIP sent to me by an artist I will not name.

Shigaraki/Tenko wanting to destroy the false sense of peace All Might and Heroes created
.⬇️.
Shigaraki/Tenko wanting to destroy everything that lead to the existence of that house, which he conceptualizes as the embodiment of rejection and injustice in the world. Be a Hero for the Villains.
.⬇️.
AFO basically literally created that house
.⬇️.
Shigaraki/Tenko helps defeat AFO
.⬇️.
Deku telling him 'you already destroyed it' is... apparently Shigaraki/Tenko having finally gotten rid of the true cause of (his) rejection and injustice? main antagonist's big problem that represents an overarching major issue of the story/in-universe society... solved? (main antagonist's big problem that represents an overarching major issue of the story/in-universe society not actually being the problem he thought it was but now also solved?)
.⬇️.
No longer a need for there to be a Hero for the Villains, Shigaraki/Tenko dies.
.⬇️.
Heroes not to be blamed in the first place. also fuck everyone else and all other 'actual' outcasts I guess.
#i understand that Tenko not having 'supposed' to be rejected doesn't mean the rejection didn't occur for the other League members#but taking that away from Tenko/Shigaraki - leader of the League of Villains - wanting to be their champion#symbolically being their collective grievances and wills condensed into one#taking that away makes the story a lot weaker#GOD what happened#nalslastworkingbraincell#honestly making everything AFO's fault#and making Tenko's main issue being his despair toward himself (created by AFO)#allowed for the (seemingly for now) clean resolution of 'get rid of the both of them' possible#It's AFO's fault? Kill him! Problem solved#Tenko's issue not actually *harm caused by other (non-AFO) people* but instead *harm caused by his self-conceptualization/his own self*?#Tenko's projecting his own self-loathing and anger onto the world and causing trouble for everyone and making his crusade meaningless?#let him die too. Pity but problem solved!#AFO gave him the specific quirk that was Decay because it was such a brutal and deadly quirk that would guarantee rejection#you cannot tell me he could've been fine after manifesting Decay if only AFO wasn't there to tell him he has an innate need to destroy#not after what we've seen of Shinsou and Toga#other 'normal' people would not have let him live a normal life#that *is* also very much a problem that should be addressed#but it was AFO who gave him Decay and Decay was also actually not naturally existing#so everything's fine! no changes for anyone!#all this could've been saved if this was transferred to AFO - AFO also seen as a victim of societal apathy#especially since he was BORN A TRASH RIVER RAT ORPHAN#but he's just a lonely guy who was too unpleasant to form real relationships#so. only real issue Hero Society ever had that needed to be addressed was civilians being too hard on Heroes#gotta love them more and demand less of them#yippee

Ugh now I’m thinking about the evolution of the topic of marriage/commitment over the years
I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover -> I’d marry you with paper rings -> one single thread of gold tied me to you -> give you my wild, give you a child -> are you really going to talk about timing in times like these? -> all they keep asking me is if I’m going to be your bride -> I wouldn’t marry me either -> do something babe, say something -> you’re losing me
