Hell's Cinque Ville's Greatest Dad
In celebration of (and as a result of) @tyrantchimera 's latest Finders Keepers chapter coming out, have Girouette and Omega Zero in the outfits of the worst co-parents to ever exist.
I am, of course, talking about Lucifer and Alastor from Hazbin Hotel.
I mean look it was a pretty easy comparison to make.
Giro as Lucifer, the well-meaning but struggling father figure? And he's blonde?
Omega as Alastor, the mysterious, murderous mischief-maker who has ended up as a father figure? Plus the colour scheme?
the paper could not handle all the red on Omega dear gods...
Anyways this may be the goofiest thing I've ever drawn but damn if it doesn't make me smile. Honestly love the idea of these two (Giro and Omega) as ridiculous co-parents to Vent and Aile.
Enjoy!

To reciprocate, a four-whammy: Hector, Isaac, Barok and Klimt for the character bingo <3 (and Isaactor if you want to lmao)
oh wow another four whammy. luckily for you im physically incapable of shutting up
Tumblr media
first of all, hector! he is very neat! in a similar category for me as sypha i think, which is "very awesome but i dont think about them too hard" however i have read all your thoughts on him and they are also cool so i will label him Good Character. no need to explain lack of fandom trust on the cod boys (thats what flanderisation is for also, netflix)
i find funny the idea of him being sort of like trevors unwilling sidekick in dynamic, forcibly added to the friend group after curse of darkness and sadly unable to escape 😔
Tumblr media
isaac! i also dont think about him very hard but he is a fun villain and hilariously down bad for dracula so definitely carrying the underrated cv villain scene. also he sweeps netflix isaac, obviously. what a chad tbh i can get behind an unapologetic manwhore of such a calibre
Tumblr media
barok... i STILL need to replay tgaa but barok is so fucking cool!! hes tied with godot for my favourite prosecutor (godot being my favourite main series aa character) and i love his silly ass courtroom animations... also I LOVE FLAWED CHARACTERS YES KING BE OBVIOUSLY IMPERFECT AND IN NEED OF SELF-IMPROVEMENT GO GET THAT CHARACTER ARC!!! literally did nothing wrong except for all the racism ig but once again WOOO FLAWED CHARACTERS
Tumblr media
KLIMT YAAAAY I LOVE KLIMT HES MY FAVOURITE TGAA CHARACTER (she says about the character who died 10 years before the games and has only implications, words from others and a will for his personality). i love him so much hes such a failgirl i think he deserved to commit even more murder honestly. also the fact that everyone was completely willing to believe he fucking ate a ring just straight up. how obviously insane was he. how bad was he at acting like he wasnt violently unstable... also my soft spot for prequel generation tier characters helps place him high in my books (you know, like mia and diego / girouette mmzx / etc etc, that kind of character)
Tumblr media
isaactor i dont have many thoughts on that could go in the bingo so i straight up just did isaac/trevor instead. im sorry
ISAAC/TREVOR not actually something i ship, because i instead prefer to use all of the material to further my trevor angst agenda (im simply built different u know). BUT i can absolutely see why people like it + the obvious implications for it, + maybe if i read it and it was well written i would get on board...
- hot in theory is a question mark because im not actually attracted to men but i can see why someone who is would find it hot, hypothetically?

I finally, finally got my hands on the Zero/ZX Legacy Collection after long last, and have a lot of thoughts on the transition between Girouettes' death and the iconic Double Megamerge scene in the original ZX. It's a pretty well done sequence, hammered home by how cleaned up the cutscene was for the Legacy Collection.
I was originally going to write about the specifics of this scene, namely how it's a powerful reversal of X sacrificing himself/dying during the Omega battle in Z3 with Girouette giving his life and his Biometal to save Vent and Aile, and the emotional implications, but instead I got carried away exploring Girouettes' perspective of how everything plays out.
Ergo, there'll eventually be a companion post to this exploring Vent/Aile's feelings on everything, the contrast between this Double Megamerge and the one in Advent, and how the music mirrors that.
But TL,DR; Even if it was expected for Girouette to die, the lore and concept art of ZX lets you infer that his backstory had to have been similar to Vent and Aile's. Alongside what we see in the game, the emotional implication of the scene and the music really hammer home what a pivotal moment the Double Megamerge is, and how Girouettes' massive sacrifice drives the story forward. He knows that he'll die, but he'd much rather they live. And not not only that - he knows full well the pain, the sorrow and grief caused by his death will give them the fuel and determination to carry on and become "a hero who can protect everyone."
And this is exactly why he goes through with it.
From Girouettes' perspective, with a healthy dose of headcanon thrown in:
You were fairly young when you experienced loss. Your town was devastated by a maverick raid, and your younger siblings perished. Grief and trauma were hard to work through, but you got there, began to establish a life for yourself After. Started working, joined an organisation to prevent others from experiencing this same loss. Made something of yourself.
And not long after, you were given this immense power to wield that seemingly no-one else could - and you don't know why you were chosen for it. There's the borrowed power of an ancient hero singing in your veins and whispering encouragement in your head, teaching you how to use this strength for good. With his guidance as your partner, you slowly become a seasoned, veteran fighter - learn to balance your role as a defender, investigator, protector with that of a fledgling businessman.
A veteran fighter who rescues a traumatised kid in the aftermath of a raid, so very similar to the one you experienced years ago.
This child has no-one left except you, their rescuer.
And so you make the decision.
The decision to stay out of action and care for this traumatised kid.
You hide the fact that you've been a fighter to keep them safe; to keep them from losing family ever again. Your partner is proud of you and - though he misses the action - does what he can to guide you through this, as well.
Together, you do everything in your power to be the best father figure you can to this kid, to help them through the trauma; they slowly become both an employee and like your own child. Despite the war waging on somewhere in the background, it seems like your days of fighting are over.
And then through a series of unfortunate events, you watch as your adopted kid is able to wield the same power as you; bonds with and borrows the power of another of these ancient heroes. Horrified, you realise that no no no, they're about to get dragged into this war, as well, despite how long you've spent hiding that you're part of it from them.
But you think, at least I can be there to protect them. At least I don't have to hide this part of myself anymore. I can guide them like I was guided so they won't have to do this alone.
You watch your adopted kiddo run headfirst into danger in the name of saving people, so no-one loses family the way they once did, the way you did, too. So you think, I'll clear a path for them. I'll go ahead, go keep you safe.
And then you get ambushed.
There's three of them and one of you - your body isn't as strong as it used to be, crippled by an old injury, and through your shock and fighting for your life you dimly register that one of these men is the president of the company that saved our country? He's been lying to us the whole time!
You try your best, you get several good hits in but you simply can't win, no matter how hard you try, and they overpower you.
That's when your employee, your child, arrives; horror and fear twist and stab into your gut like a knife, and you're screaming for them to RUN! but your voice won't respond to your body.
But something else is responding and it's not the ancient hero; his voice has gone quiet, too. Instead it's this horrible, whispering force that takes over your body, and just barely you manage to tell your child, shoot me! before you're locked into your own head. Your feelings of fear, anguish and agony are mirrored on your child's face; you're unable to stop yourself from trying to murder your own child in cold blood, and use whatever little power you have left to restrain yourself from a killing blow.
They manage - miraculously, somehow, they manage to fight you to a standstill, begging you to stop the same way you're begging yourself to do so. Your heart is breaking, shattered into pieces at the tears streaming down their face - barely, just barely, you feel that terrible whisperings' influence ease away.
Moments later you're both struck down - and you know the only thing keeping you alive is the armour encasing your body, the power of that ancient hero on loan flowing through your veins. Said ancient hero's voice is once again echoing in your ears, in your head, telling you to stay put, that you're close to death, that I can't lose my Chosen, you're my partner in crime, Girouette, we'll make it through this. The thing that sets a Zero apart is our inability to stay dead. We're going to make it.
But outside of your head - there they are.
Your child.
Barely clinging to life, the loaned power of an ancient hero flowing through their veins is not enough. They're not strong enough yet, their breathing growing more pained by the second and tears forming in the corner of their eyes.
You can't leave them to die.
And so you make the decision.
To give them your strength - your partner knows what you're asking, why you're asking it.
Makes certain that you're sure.
You know you're going to die; you didn't want to go yet. But it's worth it, to see your child survive, live on, thrive.
The last of your life, the power flowing through your veins to them; the very last gift you'll ever give them.
The power to protect.
And as you slip into the nothingness, your partner whispering his goodbyes to you and your child's screams of anguish echoing in your heart, the very last thing you think is, I'm so very proud of you.
I love you.
And on this mortal plane, you are no more.

Now I lay thee down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake
This dead man's prayer do not forsake!
-Prayers of a Dead Man, Circle of Dust
Tumblr media
Slightly older art!
Drew Girouette and Omega together because why the hell not, it was a fun experiment in seeing how distinct I could make their faces from one another. Also took minor liberties with Giro's visor to make it more like the helmet Omega and Zero share.
Was very obviously listening to Prayers of a Dead Man by Circle of Dust whilst drawing this (much prefer the 1992 version):

[Mega Man] Big Brother Harpuia and the Devious June-bug
Summary: In which Sage Harpuia loses his half siblings, Aile and Vent, at a fall fair. Meanwhile, a mischievous someone already knows where the duo is, but apparently likes to watch Harpuia suffer. [human AU][mixes ZX/Zero lore, sorta]
Rating: K
Word Count: 2,295 words

For a sincere moment, Sage Harpuia was sure that he had heard his brother wrong. Likewise, Hidden Phantom was looking at him as if he were dense.
“I need you to take Aile and Vent to the fall fair this afternoon,” Phantom repeated.
“Why me?” Harpuia questioned. It came out a bit more hasty than he had intended, and he knew Phantom would pick up on it.
“Because,” his younger brother spat as he stood a bit straighter, “I had already made previous arrangements. Dad and Aero could have taken them, but Dad is meeting with Zero and Axl, and Aero has to finalize a large assignment for her job. Leviathan has track meets every Monday, and I don’t think I need to explain why Fefnir would be a horrible choice under any circumstance.”
“Which leaves me…”
“Which leaves you.”
Harpuia adjusted himself as the truth of his fate sunk in. It wasn’t like he had any actual plans for today either, really. There was more surprise in Phantom being so adamant that he couldn’t take the twins. Of X’s four original children, Phantom tended to be the favorite with the younger two. What was he doing today that couldn’t take a backseat like his usual activities?
“Alright.” Harpuia finally agreed. “I’ll take the twins out for the afternoon. How hard can it be?”
He wasn’t quite sure, but he swore that -for a moment- Hidden Phantom gave him a rather malicious smirk.
Harpuia soon found out why on the car ride over. The announcement that they were going to the fair immediately sent Aile into a flurry of excitement. It didn’t quite dawn on Vent until he was getting buckled into the carseat. From there, the duo would not shut up about what they were going to do at the fair. At least, Harpuia assumed that was what they were talking about. The twins were old enough now that most conversations could be understood well by the older folk. But when they got excited? Those understandable strings became gibberish again, forming a language only the twins could discern. Harpuia gave up trying to decipher it all about 10 minutes in.
It was in their excited babbling that Harpuia just let them guide him to where they wanted to go. He held Aile’s hand with his left hand, and Vent’s with his right. They immediately made him go to the pretzel stand. After getting them both a small pretzel twist, Harpuia continued to let them drag him to the next point of interest. What they found was a carnival game. Well, more accurately, Vent had noticed a plush animal hanging as a prize for a carnival game, and he immediately wanted it. Which meant big brother griffin had to win it for him.
Thankfully for Vent, big brother griffin was also no stranger to a shooting range.
The prize was won in -what Harpuia wished was- record time. The dutiful brother told the game operator what prize he wanted, and it was handed over without a fuss. Harpuia had his attention away from the twins for all of three minutes. They should have remained standing next to him in patient (or impatient, maybe) wait. But when Harpuia looked down to give Vent the prize, neither twin was there. They had both disappeared.
Sage Harpuia immediately went into panic mode.
Subconsciously holding the stuffed animal tight, Harpuia started his search for the twins. They couldn’t have gone too far, right? Where would a pair of toddlers go in a place like this? The two had been well versed in stranger-danger before now. There was even a lecture about it once they got out of the car. They knew better than this.
His first thought was to backtrack to the car. It was one of the things he had told them when they had gotten out; if you get lost and can’t find an adult, go back to the car and I’ll get you. Harpuia wasn’t aware that he was half pacing as he went to the parking lot. He genuinely wondered why he was out of breath once he touched the light blue-green sedan. At least he could throw the stupid toy in there. That thing had already made a mockery out of him. It wasn’t going to keep winning. He wouldn’t let it.
Harpuia pace-jogged back to the heart of the fall fair again, now cursing at his dumb thought of just leaving the area. He could already hear at least his father questioning it. ‘You could have stayed longer to make sure they weren’t there. They couldn’t have gone that far. Maybe they saw someone they recognized?’ he’d say in his gentle, yet still heavily concerned voice. Harpuia hated that voice. It was like being guilt tripped without a hint of malice. He wasn’t even sure if X knew how to guilt trip anyone on purpose.
“Hey Harpuia!” a voice shouted at him as he passed a caramel apple stand. Harpuia instantly turned around, and just as easily found himself incredibly disappointed.
“Juno.”
The teen gave him a bright smile as she came closer- her hunter green eyes already glittering in excitement. It gave him an easy view of the four caramel apples she held in her hands. That immediately struck him as odd, but didn’t quite find it much odder than her being at the fair to begin with.
“Whatcha doin’ here stranger?” she asked him once she was close enough. For this, Harpuia sheepishly coughed into his hand.
“Aero invited us out.” he bluffed. “I got separated from her, the twins, and Phantom. Have you seen them?”
Juno put on a rather thoughtful face as she considered it.
“Nope.” she said with a shake of her head. A small, mischievous grin was on her face though. “Been a bit busy today, you see. Giro and I are on a date.”
“Which means you made him take you on a date?”
“You’re so smart.” she grinned. “And here everyone thinks that Phantom’s the one with high deduction skills.”
“Right…” Harpuia mumbled under his breath. He then gave a shake of his head before telling her, “If you see them - the twins especially-, can you let me know?”
There wasn’t a moment of hesitation before she happily said, “Sure!” But her grin -the wide, mischievous grin that wouldn’t have looked out of place on Fefnir too- did not inspire any confidence in Harpuia.
“Catch you later!” Juno then said, waving a hand and leaving before he could ask who the other two caramel apples were for.
After this, Harpuia went brain blank. A part of him wanted to follow her and still question the caramel apples. The other part of him knew he had to find the twins immediately. He felt even worse each time he shouted out their names. So many people turned and looked at him; some with a faint amount of scorn, the others in confusion. Not one asked if they could help in the search. Harpuia found he hated them more for that fact alone.
His searching led him to where the flat rides were housed. They were nothing impressive- a few teacup spinners and something boasting antigravity were the main attractions. He hated most flat rides and rollercoasters to begin with. Everytime he would get sick. That sickness was preemptive today, if only due to the circumstances.
He called out their names again with little hope. He wondered for a moment if the sounds of happy squeals and mechanical whirrs were drowning him out. This was the worst place to find twin toddlers. The absolute worst.
Then he saw them. At least, he hoped he did. They were at the tail end of a rather long queue to a gentle ride, one that only went around in lazy circles. He called their names, one last time, and twin heads whipped around to greet him with happy smiles.
“Griffin!” the twins happily declared as they rushed toward their half brother. Any plans the duo had on getting on the ride were squashed. They were in his sights again, and they were definitely done for the day. Harpuia had never felt a greater sense of relief. He got down to their height to accept their welcoming hugs.
It took a lot in him to get serious again.
“Where did you two go?” he questioned, taking each of them by the shoulder. “It’s too dangerous to wander off alone. What if a bad guy got you?”
“They were safe,” a new, soft sounding voice spoke up. “We made sure of it.”
Harpuia immediately looked up to see Girouette and Juno come on over. It was Giro who had spoken up. He seemed rather calm about all of this- not that it was too out of the ordinary for him. Juno, on the other hand, had a face befitting the cat that ate the canary.
“Good thing too,” she happily piped up, “I don’t think we have the room to take them back home for you. But at least you had some fun at the fair, right? Get any trinkets for Miss Aero? She loves the kitschy souvenirs around here.”
It took everything Harpuia had not to sucker punch the teen right then and there.
“Girouette, can you take the twins someplace else for a moment? Juno and I need to talk.”
Girouette, immediately picking up on Harpuia’s unnerved tone, glanced between him and Juno in confusion.
“Alright.” he carefully agreed. He then scooped up Aile and ruffled Vent’s hair before directing the twins to a fish bowl game. Juno watched them leave with a small gleam in her eye.
“He’s so good with kids.” she wistfully mused. “Definitely going to have at least one with him after college. Maybe a boy. What do you think?”
She looked over at Harpuia and pretended to not notice how red his face was.
“You knew?” he demanded, finding it hard to keep his voice from getting too loud.
“‘Course I did. Hidden Phantom wouldn’t be caught dead at a public fair like this. And Miss Aero may not have expected them, but she’s still super protective. She’s a better mom than she thinks.” A wide grin etched onto her face as she then proceeded to ask, “What excuse did he make so you would agree? Had to be something good. Did he mention Bionka? I hear he’s gotten real sweet with that heiress recently. She’s too old for him though. But you know who she’s not too old for? Master Al-”
“Juno Persica, would you kindly can it!” Harpuia demanded. This made her recoil a bit. It didn’t deter her spirit very well, though. A smarmy grin was still teased onto her lips. Every part of the situation was giving Harpuia a headache. He pinched the bridge of his nose before asking, “How did you find them?”
Juno shrugged. “We didn’t. They came to us.”
Harpuia’s head immediately snapped up. “What?!”
“Yeah,” the teen nodded. “They saw us, came on over, and since Giro wasn’t going to make any moves, we just did whatever they wanted. It was a spur of the moment kinda thing where, if Giro knew, we certainly wouldn’t have left you in the dark.”
Harpuia let out a low groan as he started to pinch the bridge of his nose again.
“So when I saw you at the caramel apple stand…”
“Oh yeah. Two of those suckers were totally for Vent and Aile.”
“And you already had those two for…?”
“About 20 minutes.”
“You’re unbelievable.”
Juno stood a bit taller at this. With her hands on her hips, she informed him in a matter-of-fact tone, “No, I’m chaotic. There’s a difference, Harpuia.”
Harpuia groaned again. Thoroughly defeated, he looked over to where Giro was still occupying Aile and Vent. Juno mirrored him with some mild curiosity. Girouette was still holding Aile as Vent was starting to whine that he wanted to be let up too. The problem was, Giro didn’t quite have the strength to carry both, and Aile liked being able to see higher. After some time negotiating, Giro had to put down Aile and refused to pick up either twin. You could see the choice hurt him almost as much as it seemed unfair to them. But the teen remained firm.
“One of these days,” Harpuia sighed, “He’s going to teach you respect. I just hope he doesn’t catch your sense of independence before then.”
“Huh?” Juno wondered just as Aile and Vent started to run toward Harpuia. The older brother didn’t hesitate to scoop up the toddlers in a single motion. Both Giro and Juno were taken aback by how smooth he made it look.
Goodbyes were given in a rather quick manner as Harpuia took the twins away. They talked to him, and he did his best to respond, while snuggling up close with satisfaction. There was no trouble at all as he buckled them into their car seats. He didn’t really think to look at them until he was well down the road back home. Harpuia looked at the twins using the rear view mirror. They hadn’t been in the car for more than five minutes, and they were already asleep. He let out a small puff of air in exhaustion. At least those two had a good day. He was almost ashamed to admit that he was glad he hadn’t been the one occupying them. Goodness knows how much of a handful they could get when excited enough. Phantom would find it almost funny that he lost them too- not that anyone else would.
Would he tell anyone about it?
Probably not.
Not for another 10 years, at least. It was easier that way.
