I found this diner booth drawing I started two years ago and set about finishing it. (Stock photo model in there keeping Billy company for now. )
Then I did a background from a different angle, different diner. Threw a beat-up looking Billy in there for scale.
To be finished at some point.
It sat on my hard drive like this for years. I just bailed on it before even giving him arms. At least he's cheerful. An old-style Billyface with a canonically incorrect pointed nose and very uneven ears. Disgusting.
here's the original stock photo I was drawing from...
Those booths look nasty. Terrible upholstery . Weird dude skulking in the background and baffling vanishing points.
Second diner background modeled on this shot taken from a local news story of a couple visiting every diner in New Jersey
So I just finished the third episode of Percy Jackson and I’m insane about Medusa.
First of all they acknowledge her curse as a blessing to keep “bullies” *cough cough rapists cough cough* away was absolutely perfect. She’s such a tragedy, so devoted to Athena and then ‘attracts’ her immortal enemy. The anger with which she says they punished her and not the real monster. God that was so good.
Second she offers to help Percy save Sally because she feels a kinship with the other victims of the monster Poseidon. Percy ‘pay your child support’ Jackson and Medusa ‘the gods punished the wrong person.’ And Percy chooses Grover and Annabeth 🥺🥺🥺 but also Medusa will help Sally eventually. And like the foreshadowing there.
Also the idea that Annabeth is as much a victim of Athena as Medusa is. That’s gotta be the first time she’s heard anyone sincerely insult her mother. The idea that Medusa feels only pity for Annabeth is so interesting.
SO WE REALLY DO TAKE IT INTO THE GREEK FACTOR. YES, SIR. WE GOT PICKLING SPICE. POPE ON BOY.

POPE ON BOY STUFF. POPE ON BOY. POPE ON BOY STUFF. POPE ON BOY. POPE ON BOY. POPE ON BOY TOO BAGGEST. POPE ON BOY.

I really took new york diners for granted, it's a whole different beast in massachusetts. a worse beast. they're mostly open breakfast and lunch, there's no greek food section or any dinner at all, obviously, so the menu will be 1 single page. they don't have blintzes or matzo ball soup. and probably worst of all, at least half of them are 50s themed to a painful extent, despite being 20 years old at the absolute most.
For your vibes, I strongly feel that American retro diner aesthetic! Things that are self-indulgent but make you happy and at home.
Cheeseburgers, letters from home, road trips, record players.
what do you associate with me?
As I sit next to my turntable in the Diner Capital of the World (no joke), I wonder how long you've been spying on me for this. BUT FOR REAL I'm glad that it comes thru!! The second that I saw the milkshakes I grinned so much my cheeks started hurting. And I would absolutely do up our kitchen in checks and chrome if we weren't renting.
Latest thrift store find, 6oz hotel/diner mug made in Pennsylvania.
There is a lot of history to be found in locally made ceramics. The above mug was made by Shenango China of New Castle, PA. Shenango began as the New Castle China Company in 1901 and operated under various ownership until it was sold to Pfaltzgraff of York, PA in 1989 and closed.
A date code of A-28 puts this mug manufactured during the second half of 1970. Another maker that I’ve been looking for a good style is Jackson Custom China of Falls Creek, PA. The date code of D2 shows made in February of 1954.
However, John was in a mental hospital in Buffalo. In the comics, he's in Arkham. Which, I can accept that Arkham is in or around Buffalo. Queen city makes sense, it could easily be Gotham.
But a bit about Buffalo diners, even if that diner wasnt necessarily in the city proper, all Buffalo diners are Greek and have like at least 3 pages of menu.
That diner was not.
I got more of a southern tier New York vibe on that diner.
[WITH GREEK OLIVE OIL. REALLY? I DON'T KNOW THAT I'VE DONE IT WITH GREEK OLIVE OIL. OKAY. OKAY, SO YOU GOT SIX LAYERS IN. YEP. NOW? NOW I'M GONNA PUT MY FILLING IN, RIGHT ON TOP. POUR IT IN? HOW MUCH? YEP. ALL OF IT.]
Quoted 4.23, 7.66 SCLEPIUS: Greek god of medicine. He is said to be the mother of the human race and protector of the world.[22]

feta is such an underappreciated cheese. it's creamy and refreshing, it adds a pop to so many things. not to be from detroit but it's also FANTASTIC in an omelet and people who haven't done that are missing out
