Possibly the best part of the movie is in the beginning where Gabbie is trying to pass off the creepiness of the house. Then she sees that her son is in fact not making it up due to ‘moving angst’ and nope! Ghosts freaky! We are out!
More movies need to do this when a house is haunted. You get the hell out of dodge! 👏🏻. I especially love when she and Ben are talking about being trapped in the house and she’s SO clear about trying to leave and not endangering her son? Again where is this energy in every other haunted house film?

1408 is not a perfect movie but it’s kind of a perfect haunted house movie. Wish Jackson was in more of this.

Same rule as my early 80s horror in not having the ‘typical’ big name franchises that always sweep (I know half of you are lying when you pick them I just know-)

Reading the Haunting of Hill House and getting a lot of haunted mansion vibes:
In my defense a bunch of people purposefully coming to a haunted house and being sort of automatic besties is true.

Hausu/House is a film everyone deserves to see. That rarest creature, a truly unique picture. Like if Dario Argento made Azumanga-Daioh. Few movies I’d rather get killed by a ghost in than this one.
