Gwaine: it’s like Merlin always says: If at first you don’t succeed, it’s only attempted murder.
Arthur, the skeptic: Merlin? Merlin always says that?
Lancelot, wiping a tear: Inspirational.

So do we just all agree that the knights absolute love Merlin the way cat owners love their cats?
Knights, holding up Merlin from under his arms: so this is Merlin and he’s so nice and we love him.
Merlin: *is actively breaking the law by existing* *has literally killed people* *drops branches on peoples heads* *and even tried to kill the king*
Knights: he’s just a funky little guy :)
I would even bet money he knocks glasses off tables when he wants to annoy someone (Arthur-)

Random Headcanons
- Fairies smoke. They get high, oh they get so high. (Thanks @sydns for putting this idea in my head lol) The Fairy King's Forest has a spot where one can find the highest quality of herbs, one of the reasons why humans try to enter the forest in the first place. There are also far more crazier things that can be found in the Fairy Realm. None of the Sins know that King smokes because he didn't during his time with the Sins, his argument being that humans don't sell the good stuff. The first time anyone has actually seen King and Elaine smoke is at Gilthunder and Margaret's wedding.
- Goddess shed their feathers as they grow. It's kind of a weird sight to see
- Goddess and Fairies are known to have beautiful voices. The question of whose better is very subjective depends on who you ask. When a Goddess sings they bring a heavenly and ethereal feel. When a Fairy sings it's more enchanting and whimsical.
- Lancelot slept on Chastiefol once. Best nap ever.
- Lancelot became a bit overprotective over the Percy Platoon after the incident because he doesn't want anyone getting hurt again
- Lancelot didn't speak to Sixtus for months after Sixtus received Magliastira. Lance is just upset he didn't get a cool weapon
- Mael cried when he found out that Tristan named his swords after him
- Meliodas would sometimes talk to the horses in the castle stables, sometimes Ban would join in. King apologizes to the horses on their behalf
- Lancelot and Sixtus would use birds to carry messages to each other.
- Gowther taught Tristan how to curse in Demon language
- Gowther is Sixtus' favorite Uncle. "His weirdness is endearing." Sixtus said.
- Zeldris and Mael would sometimes have their own little tea parties in the Demon Realm. Meliodas found out about it and got upset he wasn't invited. "You don't even like tea." Zeldris argued. "That's not the point! It's the thought that matters, it's about a get together between brothers" after that they invited Meliodas, he really didn't last long.

Lancelot looked between Merlin, his sign and Arthur’s disappointed face, rolled his eyes at his friends and asked Merlin, “Why do you do this?”
Merlin waited for Arthur to face his opponent before he turned his sign around. “Do what?”
The crowd cheered and jeered as Arthur blocked blows, struck his opponent, and proved his skill and superiority with a sword. Lancelot ignored the sparring in favor of watching Merlin lean against the rail, shout himself hoarse and wave his ‘Go Arthur’ banner like an idiot.
Arthur won and immediately looked to the crowd searching for Merlin’s face. By the time he found him, Merlin’s banner read ‘Arthur sucks’ and he looked entirely unimpressed. Arthur’s face fell, he pushed sweaty hair from his forehead, glared at his manservant and tore his eyes away to look upon his more adoring subjects.
Merlin felt Lancelot’s disappointed glare. “Someone needs to keep him humble,” Merlin argued. “Listen to them.”
The crowd cheered louder as Arthur raised his sword and waved to his subjects.
“Yet he only cares what you think,” Lancelot grumbled beneath his breath, just loud enough and close enough to Merlin’s ear for him to hear over the cheers.
Merlin tried to push the guilt away. It wasn’t true. Arthur could care less what Merlin thought, but his King’s eyes kept finding Merlin in the crowd and every time they did the glimmer of victory and the smile of pride faded just a little.
“You’re evil,” Merlin told Lancelot as he turned his sign once more.
Arthur’s face lit up. His smile stretched from ear to ear and Merlin’s did just the same.
Lancelot leaned in and teasingly said, “You like Arthur’s smile.”
Merlin elbowed him in the stomach, blushed and fumbled his banner. “Go make cow eyes with Gwen!”

Lancelot (4Kota) with an S/o similar to Mitsuri Kanroji(KNY)...
Like, reader is probably a hybrid between human and giant, who just looks very human and so on, but has the strength of her giant relative, compressed muscle. She was probably even from some town like Benwick or even lived near the fairies.
but then she started interacting with humans and precisely because of her human appearance (very cute) they accepted her a lot. even with her colossal strength (they thought it was her magical power).
I have a idea/feeling that she would know Lancelot from his travels with Jericho at first por when he come back from his first journey, just the reader could realize his mixed descent and would constantly bug him to be her friend.
I'm not going to lie, at first Lancelot found her a little quite annoying because of her cheerfull attitude and her insistence on being friends, but when he saw her heart he could tell that she was sincere (apart from the fact that the reader would stop if it was too much for him) so he decided at least to let her be close.
reader was someone very bright! which contrasted VERY MUCH with Lancelot's serious and stoic attitude, she would talk and talk and talk to him about things that were happening in the town, something cute she saw the other day, the huge meal that the bartender served her and that she ate it all, etc
Lancelot would just sit still and listen with his typical :| face, but in reality it amuses him that reader is surprised by such everyday things.
Even if Lancelot said that the reader was "annoying" he left out actions that showed the opposite, such as showing her things he brought from his missions, showing her his "Sin" form and in general he listened to her and even gave her advice when she asked for it.
He liked having someone so sincere for so long, but he was pretty bad at saying it verbally, so he just showed it through actions. He's a tsundere kind of guy
(imagine if I gave the reader some type of garment/ornament like in that scene with Mitsuri and Obanai🥺it would be so cute).
Reader also tends to get emotional as they grow up, when she cries, she CRY A LOT, she almost scared Lancelot away when one time she came crying with him, he was ready to kill someone, but the reader had just seen a very big snake in her shed and she got scared😅 (a very common nickname of Lancelot to the reader is "cry baby" or "dork").
By the time they are teenagers, Lancelot not only tolerates the reader more, but also appreciates her a lot, not only because she sticks to him like glue, but because she is very sincere in what she thinks and says, someone he trusts will say the true.
For this reason, Lancelot is quite cautious with the people around her, even if he appreciates and loves her, he recognizes that she lacks a little understanding that not everyone is a good person, especially when she develops a certain phase of being in love.
Although Lancelot didn't spend much time in the city, he tried to give the reader "subtle" clues about which guys were worth it (almost none) and which weren't (almost all). Fortunately or unfortunately, the reader distanced herself from almost all of them except for ONE especially despicable one. But he couldn't really make her stop, so she just rolled her eyes at every mention of the boy.
Lancelot understands that the reader wants to fall in love, in the future maybe get married and start a family, but could she PLEASE stop going after guys who aren't worth it?
The breaking point occurs when THIS JERK not only rejected Reader(that was the least), but despises her for being a giant, telling her horrible things like "only a bear would marry you" and leaving the reader heartbroken.
Obviously the guy doesn't get very far, but the words cut deep into the reader, who never really saw her strength as something bad until that moment (or her big appetite, or "unfeminine" habits) and begins to wonder, is she the one wrong?
Lancelot (even though he is somewhat bad with emotions) had to interfere and not let the reader get to her head, so what if they were rare hybrids? He wouldn't change anything about how she was a reader, NOTHING, just as she wouldn't change anything about him.
It's a nice cute little moment.
If we talk about the current relationship, it is like the dynamic of "sunshine" and "sunshine protector" (better known as "if they're smile disappears YOU DISAPPEAR). or simply an odd couple. The reader tends to be gentler with him group but somewhat clumsy while Lancelot the most responsible but much less gentle...
Even if Reader knows how to fight, there is no way she can match Lancelot's level, so she is more of a rearguard fighter. It should not be taken lightly either. Believe me, Lancelot knows...
they're like:
Lancelot: someone is going to die--(reader covers his mouth with unhuman streng)
reader: OF FUN!
Lancelot and reader take full advantage of reader's ridiculous strength! either for the benefit of people (such as clearing paths or moving heavy stuck objects, for fights, etc) or for certain little jokes.
Lancelot probably encourages the reader to basically train her giant skills, just in case she has to defend the town she lives in or herself. I don't think he can teach her how to use "heavy metal" but he can definitely give some advice regarding elementary handling.
(Lancelot has been carried princess style by reader more times than the other way around, it's fun and cute to see).
Lancelot fully supports the great reader's appetite! She burns a lot of calories with her great strength, so she needs to eat a lot, if reader convinces him enough, they can compete to see who eats the most, they have a great series of ties.
when reader really fights, she's actually pretty good! Only of course, when she eventually reaches her point of greatest exhaustion, she begins to despair and thinks she is going to die😅 Lancelot tells her half jokingly/half lovingly that she is a crybaby, but that she did quite well on her own.
(by the way, only Lancelot can call the reader a crybaby, anyone else gets a hit on the back of the head).
In general, it's like the typical "opposites attract" but it's actually quite healthy✨

BBC Merlin writers really missed out the best friend energy with Gwen. She's the first friend Merlin meets in Camelot, what do you mean he didn't tell her of his magic?
I would love to have a few episodes of the Merlin, Gwen, Lancelot trio where Merlin is trying to discreetly-not-discreetly take care of the villain while Lancelot is trying his best to help him with the stealth and makes excuses for him while Gwen is the one with the braincell making sure it all doesn't go to shit.
Merlin would find out of the threat from Arthur or due to Arthur and he would then relay this to Lance and Gwen. They talk about how best to deal with it and they ALL go down to see Kilgarrah cos more people need to question his bullshit, it's extremely hard to do that when you're the only one confronted with it. And same with Gaius, although his is more caring but still detrimental at times.
Gwen will be the one to persuade Merlin to tell Morgana of his magic and help her. While both Gwen and Lancelot, and later also Morgana, make sure that Arthur learns that magic isn't so bad. And then Merlin would tell him of his magic and Morgana will feel safe to also come out with her magic.
And then for bonus points merthur

Y’know that one episode where Merlin and Gwen basically speed run that farmer into becoming a fake noble? It was in season 2, I think.
Do you ever think about Arthur wondering why and how they just knew exactly what to do?
And then Merlin and Gwen have to explain it went so well because they’ve done it before, Lancelot didn’t act alone, and by the way his two best friends have a rap sheet of casual treason
That’s why he looked so done when the farm guy looked like a noble.

just another Merlin headcanon/fic idea that i may or may not write… (AU: Post canon/nobody dies, Arthur knows about Merlin’s magic but not quite what Merlin does for Camelot in his spare time)
Merlin and Arthur have been teetering around each other since the Battle. Arthur showing a more protective and outwardly caring side to the younger man. Merlin leaving lingering touches and soft glances whenever he’s able, defending Arthur more openly and strongly to those he never would’ve dared to before.
The Knights have bets on their relationship. Leon is winning. Gwaine is in debt. Percival wants to rip his hair out, Lancelot and Eylan are secretly betting on Gwaine going bankrupt before Merlin and Arthur even admit their feelings out loud.
After a particularly close encounter with his servant, soon to be court sorcerer, Arthur finally works up the courage to ask Merlin if he feels the same as he does, to tell Merlin that marrying for an heir is what the court want, he wants to marry for love, and he loves Merlin.
He asks Merlin, by a letter that he thinks gives a clear light to his intentions, to meet him outside the castle, in a spot they sometimes sit at together when the days have been long and stressful. The spot where the moonlight shines brightly over the flowers and the grass is somehow soft year round and in the summer a small refreshing cross breeze is created by the way the trees are sprayed out scarcely before them.
But Merlin never shows and Arthur feels embarrassed, hurt, somehow more betrayed than when Merlin revealed the gold dragon within the flames of the fire but he understands that Merlin must’ve read Arthur’s intentions loud and clear and saved him the mortifying rejection of his manservant. So instead he turns to avoiding Merlin, that seeing him after the clear rejection would only send him into a spiral so he tries his best to stay away.
However he notices that, despite his effort to avoid him, he hasn’t seen the sorcerer anywhere at all, his chores untouched, a dreadful feeling that hasn’t been there until that morning fills the air. It’s obvious the others within the castle feel it too.
Arthur turns to the knights, questioning if they have seen Merlin, if he is okay and well, but they have not seen him and that only causes Arthur to panic more.
He sends the guards to search the castle, the stables, Gwens house, even the small opening by the lake where Merlin traipses off to when he’s feeling rough, when he’s hiding. But he’s never gone this long.
He orders them to tear Camelot apart if they have too.
But he’s found in none of those places.
Instead Merlin and Gwaine find him, bloody, broken and shivering beneath the castle where he hasn’t been able to move himself for the past two days even calling for help had been pointless so far below the occupied layers of the castle.
Merlin is rushed to Gauis as he his eyes flutter and Arthur can do nothing but sit and panic as Merlin’s wounds are tended too.
Once he is awake and competent Arthur sits beside his cot and, though it feels wrong too, he questions him deeply, his voice tremors and his fingers shake but he does it anyway.
And Merlin tells him everything, how he received the letter and his heart almost gave up on itself at the thought of alone time with the King, how he’d been sneaking around near the stores, trying to find a bottle of wine or two just before their meeting so they could truly relax after a stressful council meeting and had caught the assassin that had been snooping low in the castle. A poisoned dagger strapped to his belt.
He had been strong and relentless and had nearly left Merlin with less than his life but Merlin had fought for Arthur and he had won, even if he ended the scrap with blood coating his body and an ache in his ribs that made him hiss and cough with each movement.
That even before Arthur knew about his magic this had been a large part of his daily life, to keep Arthur safe and to never let him know just how much it hurt him, how much it broke him. He jokes that he doesn’t even know where the tavern is.
But Arthur echos that now he doesn’t need to hide, he can ask for help, and he will receive it.
Then Arthur realises that Merlin truly had no idea what he was going to ask him and he knows that if he doesn’t do it now he won’t ever be able too again.
So he asks.
And Merlin replies.

So this is like 90% canon compliant, but has some headcanon in the fact of Merlin keeping a journal to make sure he never forgets those who were most important to him.

merlin au where merlin makes friendship bracelets for everyone he likes but plot twist he’s merlin and he likes everyone like come on he adopts ppl like 2 minutes into meeting them
like
obviously gwen has one - one of the first if not the first he made in camelot - yellow and purple
and gaius too but his is one merlin made when he was a kid - its really old so the colors are faded but its made of all the thread merlin could find and its kinda ugly but he loves it anyway cuz he’s a fucking sap
and then during some attack on camelot sir leon pulled him back because its his fucking job but merlins like <3 omg a new friend and leons like uhhhh but he never takes it off
lancelot leaves camelot with honor and a yellow bracelet and a new best friend <3
even the great dragon has one but its less of a bracelet and more of a ring
a bunch of the servants have one - almost everyone in the kitchen (they give merlin extra food so he’ll make one) the guards outside gaius's door (which is lowkey why they never report the magic because they and merlin are besties)
morgana wears it with her ridiculously fine and expensive jewelry
sometimes visiting nobles leave with one
a bunch of shop owners have one
because merlin’s literally besties with everyone
but who doesn’t have one?
arthur
not because merlin doesn’t like him (though he’ll admit (only to himself) that perhaps he doesn’t want to be just friends with arthur) but because merlin simply doesn’t think he’d like one
on the other hand arthur’s seething with rage and jealously and when leon showed up with one arthur may have been a little more vicious in training
when one of the other knights gets one he gets vicious in training every training session since then
morgana knows and makes sure to flash her bracelet in front of his face
on the other hand merlin knows that arthur wouldnt like one but merlin still adores him so mayhaps he sews in a little pattern on the inside of arthur’s shirts that he’s mending where no one will notice but merlin will see him wear the shirt and think he’s wearing merlin’s friendship :)
yeah
