Steve's dad hates his job, his mother finds it endearing and calls it a hobby. Steve didn't talk to them for three months now.

Look, he didn't want to become a kindergarten teacher. Kids annoy the shit out of him, starting with the nerd squad that some day sat on the backseat of his BMW and never left.

But he's good at it. With the kids. He didn't think he could have been, because he doesn't know what it is parents exactly do, how to deal with children, but he learned.

It's the first job he wants - and that after seven years of boredom and the sinking feeling that he'll never be good at anything. Jesus, even the kids know he's good at it. The kids that aren't kids anymore, but friends. Max and Lucas whose daughter now comes to his kindergarten, too.

Jordan reminds him so much of them. A little rascal with too much energy and too much heart. Swears like a sailor, but being one of the kindest kids in the group.

It's the end of the day and Steve waits for her to get picked up. Finally, there's someone at the door and he turns around to greet Lucas who usually runs a little late.

He freezes. Jordan squeals with joy.

"Uncle Billy!" She climbs up his leg until she's lifted up.

"Am I dreaming or is that you, Harrington?" Billy Hargrove stands in front of him. Well and alive and with the same shit eating grin that was on his lips seven years ago. He's wearing an apron, hair escaping the loose bun, like he has just hurried here from work. From a bakery, it seems.

"You're awake, fipshit," Jordan explains with the seriousness of a kid that got it all figured out, because adults are stupid.

"It's dipshit," Billy corrects, sounding all proud. Well. That explains Jordan's language.

"Dipshit," Jordan repeats, nodding along.

"I didn't know you lived here," Steve says lamely. Chicago isn't Hawkins, but he thought Hargrove would have left the state after surviving the monster's attack.

"Moved here a week ago - to be close to my niece," Billy just says, booping Jordan's nose. He gives her a big smile, freckles dancing and cheeks dimpling.

It's odd to see him like that. Unguarded, grinning, happy. He's beautiful, Steve thinks before he can catch himself.

"Billy wants to see if Hawwi - Harrington is still hot," Jordan announces innocently.

Oh. Steve's heart flutters.

Billy's nose turns red. "Jordan Sinclair," he growls.

"Uncle Billy," she cheers.

She's Steve's favourite kid, he decides.

"I make some damn good pies," Billy says, face still crimson. "If you get tired of eating with three year olds."

He's trying to sound cool. It's hard when there's a three year old beginning to braid his mullet.

How can Steve say no to that?

“Please, Steve!” Nancy’s wheedling voice drifts to Eddie as he rounds the corner. “Jonathan already said no because he’s trick-or-treating, so it’s just going to be me and Barb.”

Steve’s leaning against his locker, frowning down at Nancy. It’s reminiscent of the year before, when the pair were circling each other like monkeys in heat, only it’s knocked on its head. Maybe even…upside down. Eddie chuckles, sidling up to lean against Steve by the lockers, knocking their shoulders together. A united front in the face of a determined Nancy Wheeler.

“Are you saying Barb’s not enough for you, Miss Wheeler?” Eddie asks, faux shocked. He puts a hand to his chest, swooning into Steve’s side just to make him laugh.

Nancy rolls her eyes. “Obviously not.” She’s clearly exasperated by Eddie’s presence. Somehow, almost a year of being friend’s-once-removed hasn’t warmed either of them up. Although, if all the interdimensional ass-kicking couldn’t do it, why would anything else? “It’s just–” she trails off, looking down at the books she has clasped daintily to her chest.

Eddie can almost feel Steve thawing beside him. God damn it. “Just what?” he asks softly.

Nancy peeks up at him from beneath her eyelashes. She doesn’t even look at Eddie. What a conniving little twerp. “Neither of us have been to a party since, well–” she stalls, tucking a curl behind her ear. “You know.” She whispers the last bit, looking around like she expects the men in suits to burst out of the walls because she mentioned a party from last year.

Steve stiffens next to him. Eddie takes a surreptitious step closer, glaring down at Nancy. Not that she has the decency to even notice. “None of us have gone to a party since, Wheeler,” he hisses.

Steve elbows him in the ribs. Like he’s the problem in this scenario. Eddie backs down, slumping down into the lockers and crossing his arms with a loud huff. Time to let Mommy and Daddy figure it out. Eddie grimaces, disgusted by his own thoughts.

Steve sighs, rubbing his face vigorously with his hands. “One hour,” he says, muffled through his palms.

“Seriously?” Eddie demands.

“Yes!” Nancy says, raising her hand in a tiny fist pump that would’ve been endearing on literally anyone else. “I’ll see you there!” She’s beaming as she turns around, walking away with a new bounce in her step.

“Where are we going?” Eddie demands.

Steve lowers his palms, sliding them down his skin, slowly revealing each tantalizing bit of his perfect face. “Were you invited?” Steve asks, turning and walking away.

“Dude, I know where you sleep!” He does not shout out in the halls of Hawkins High in bumfuck Indiana that where he sleeps is with Eddie in his bed. He has some self-preservation left.

Steve laughs, elbowing him in the ribs again. Same spot, too, the asshole. “Tina’s Halloween party?”

“Are you serious?” When Steve nods, he continues. “Ugh, Stevie, you’ve gotta stop letting Wheeler shoehorn you into these things. She’s the worst!” Eddie whines, drawing out the vowels in ‘worst’ past recognition.

“She’s not that bad,” Steve says, but he’s smiling. “You’re just her like–what’s it called? That stuff that always trips up Superman. Dustin mentioned it?”

He looks over at Eddie, a cute look of puzzlement on his face. Eddie wants to boop his nose, so he does, watching as Steve goes cross-eyed trying to follow the movement. “You mean Kryptonite?”

Steve snaps his fingers, smiling dorkily. “That’s it!”

Eddie’s heart flops pitifully in his ribcage. What a fucking nerd, dear god. “Okay, but do we have to go to a stupid party because Nancy Wheeler of all people wants us to?”

Steve shrugs, still smiling as they walk down the emptying corridors. “Last time we got kidnapped by a monster from a hell dimension, so really, Munson.” Steve claps his arm around Eddie’s shoulders, rubbing his hair like he’s one of the bastard children. “Things can only go up from here!”

Eddie can’t help the way he almost shrieks with laughter, almost bringing Steve down with the way he goes boneless. “You’re a total jinx!”

“Maybe, but you love me!”

Steve Harrington says it nonchalantly, like he’s not currently holding him up off the cold linoleum. Eddie’s heart does an unfortunate splitter splatter splat at Steve’s feet. Because fuck. He does.

It's your nineteenth birthday and you can drink your ass off. At last. It's your time. The best days of your life are ahead of you.

Not only are you vibing, you have your posse, your trio of thots. You're not the queen bee but you're a great sidekick. The Regina George of the group is definitely Amanda and her svelte blond hair, but you'd say Kamlai is more the Gretchen Wieners than you.

You smile at the bouncer, a man with a derisive look on his eye that makes you want to dissolve into sand or dust. Whatever. Maybe a nice eerie fog so you can float away. You only catch half his face as he keeps in the shadows, waving in coeds and a few middle-aged creepers.

You wish you got the nice one with the belly. You wait for the silent man to scowl at your ID. He holds it up beside you before he flicks it back to you.

"Thank you, sir," you catch the plastic card against your chest, his eye glinting towards your cleavage.

"Go," he growls and waves forward the next eager club goer.

"Oop, okay, sorry," you make a gesture like Betty Boop, raising your shoulders as you kick a foot up, "have a great night!"

He grumbles and you quickly run to catch up with Kam and Amanda. The pulsing music embraces you and you feel the energy flow into you. This night is gonna be awesome!

"You guys have to make sure to get pics of me!" Amanda hollers above the beat, "with the cutest guy I can find. Seth can eat his heart out."

You shake your head, shrugging off your disappointment. It's supposed to be your day but somehow Amanda always finds her way into the spotlight. You're not going to worry, you're all about fun!

You get your first round of drinks and find a seat. Amanda drinks her pink martini as she scopes out the room. She blows a nonplussed raspberry.

"Ugh, not finding any hunky fuckboys," she rolls her eyes, "I mean, I need someone super fucking hot."

"Don't we all," Kam giggles as her eyes rove, "how about an older guy?"

"Hm?" Amanda gives a pout and twists around to follow Kamlai's gaze. She tilts her head back and forth.

"Not too bad, I'll take the middle one," she winks, "you two can fight over who doesn't get specs."

You look at Kam then back to the three men along the wall. Amanda must be referring to the one with the spiky hair and glasses. He's cute but you're not really into the leering type.

"It's my birthday," you say as Amanda's already on her feet.

You peek at the third guy, sandy brown hair and bright blue eyes. He's not bad. Besides, you just have to dance, Amanda can do all the wants but you're not that kinda gal. You're too damn weird to be the hookup type.

"Fine," Kam rolls her eyes, "I'll take the nerd."

You grab the stranger's hands and once more drag them off your ass. You put them on your waist and give him a look. Dude, really, take a hint.

Well, he's not a stranger stranger. His name is Cole and he likes flowers. Adorable but still, a bit too old for you.

You turn, an excuse too look around at your friends as you shimmy your hips. Kam isn't as detered as she originally let on and Amanda is gone. Alright…

"How about a drink?" Cole startles you as he leans forward to yell in your ear, "I think I owe the birthday girl at least one."

"Oh, uh, alright," you turn back to him, "sure, I needa sit down anyway."

You follow him to the bar and wait by his arm as he orders. Fuck Amanda, really? Where is she?

"Here," Cole turns back to you, handing over the bright blue cocktail, "birthday special."

You nod and smile. You look at the slice of orange hooked over the edge and sniff the sweet drink. You put your lips to the straw but before you can take a sip, it's torn out of your grasp.

"Hey fucker," the snarl bites through the breakdown of the Cyndi Lauper classic.

A large figure pushes between you and Cole, throwing the drink in his face as he sputters. You gape in surprise and look up as the bouncer stands between you and your erstwhile dance partner. He grabs the smaller man by the collar, knocking his drink to the floor.

"Get the fuck outta here."

The bouncer shoves Cole into a stool and rolls his shoulders. You have no idea what's going on. Cole gulps and looks between you and the large man, himself not by any means small but taking a quick hint. He scrabbles away as you check your feet, a few drops of alcohol on your shoes.

"Didn't anyone ever tell you not to take drinks from strangers," the bouncer turns with a bark, "fucking bimbo."

You frown at the insult but can't muster a response before he storms away. You peer down at the puddle of the cocktail then spin to see the bouncer disappear through the door. Huh, he must've seen something you didn't. You should've known Cole was a creep. You just hope his friends aren't the same.

During a failing brainstorming meeting

Ace: uck, who decided that the yonkos should have a crew costume competition every year, Big mom always wins any ways. They're an entire family of theater nerds, and logia users, of course they're going to win.

Marco: It's a tradition Roger started, and there was once an attempt to stop having them, but King's assistant single-handedly secured its continuation by asking if pulling out of the competition would be forfeiting, because all four four of the captains refuse to forfeit. And they did entirely to spite King, who hates the competition, because be has to participate. *Crumples a sketch into a ball and torches it in his fist*

Izou: He deserved it too, from what I hear, but thankfully the other crews aren't much competition though, Kaido always does and animal or monster theme. Shanks's crew can barely scrounge together costumes. And both of them are usually only there for the food and booze.

Thatch: And pops is always so challenging to clothe, since we don't have a place to store lots of fabric. Plus he's too frugal to let us go all out on a costume for him.

You: I have an idea, and I know pops already has a bunch of the clothes we can use for his costume. All we'd need is a pops-sized plastic apron, plastic gloves, and a paper hat. And we could use the project I've been working on.

Izou: *looks over at you slowly, and without blinking, to emphasize his judgement* and what would we be going as?

You: so I think it's time I show you my project.

At the storage room you've converted into a crafts area

You: Behold... bread

Marco: *starts laughing* because's he's looking at two giant plushies that look like slices of bread*

You: yes, there's even a pad of butter pillow *whips it out and chucks it onto the bread* I stuffed it with your feathers.

Was not expecting a new scene with Bunny of all things.

Uma kleptomaniac arc (this is like, the first thing we’ve really learned about her and it’s been three seasons.)

Uma trying to bond with Charles by joking-but-not-really about him murdering Bunny.

Theo now? Theo now!

I find it a tad unbelievable that Mabel didn’t know the sign for murder. It’s immediately forgiven though. (It was a decent way to establish their dynamic and her level of ASL.)

Theo telling Mabel that no one was closer to Ben then Ben’s brother when he likely doesn't even know he has a brother.

It’s fascinating to me that Mabel thought Theo might know Dickie.

Huntlow Week Day 3: Prompt Nerds/Nature.

Willow liked Cosmic Frontier enough. At least that's what she'd told Hunter. She'd sat through all the movies and the TV series with Gus and Hunter.

She'd been happy enough to get him a bootleg version of the Cosmic Frontier Holiday Special that the creator had wanted buried forever as a gift for Bleeding Hearts Day.

But when it was announced that there would be a convention in the middle of Bonesborough that celebrated Human Realm pop-culture, Hunter was surprised when Willow suggested the two wear a "couple's costume."

"It shouldn't be a surprise, man!" Gus chuckled. "You two have been joined at the pinkies since that time at the Archives! You can go as O'Bailey and Willow can go as Hanako."

Hunter had considered it. But when it came right to it he wasn't sure it was right. After all, Willow liked Cosmic Frontier enough, but not as much as he did.

"Here's the thing." Hunter told Willow. "I wanna go with you! I wanna do the ... you know... couple's costume and stuff? B-but I know I like Cosmic Frontier more than you do?"

"Hmmmmmm. Astute as always, O'Bailey" Willow tapped Hunter's temple playfully. "So here we have a bit of a dilemma. We are both nerds. But what we need to find is that sweet spot where our nerdoms meet in that perfect intersection that the costume would work for both of us."

"Understood." Hunter nodded tersely. He pulled out a notebook and a pen. "Okay. I was thinking we could be Leia Organa and Han Solo..."

On the notebook, Hunter scratched out the words "Leia and Han."

"Oh! That's a good one." Willow cooed. "But one problem. Which one of us is Leia and which one is Han."

"That's a tough one." Hunter mused. "I mean, we're both badasses. And they're both badasses. And we could both rock those costumes."

"True." Willow nodded. "Our dual badassets transcend gender norms."

"But if we're gonna do a Star Wars costume, I kinda wana have a lightsaber, and Leia and Han don't use one in the Original Trilogy... and I don't wanna get into an argument with Jerbo about EU and Legends canon again, so maybe we should hold off on that." Hunter let out a grunt.

"Fair." Willow nodded. "We don't need you and Jerbo to go down that road again."

"We could do Chat Noir and ... you know..." Hunter offered.

"Even though she's not an actual Ladybug, I don't think I've got it in me." Willow bit her lip. "Sorry."

Hunter wrote down "Lady Bug and Chat Noir" and then promptly crossed it out.

"How about Rory Williams and Amy Pond?" Willow smiled. She extended a gentle finger to his nose and gave him a soft boop.

Hunter laughed, just a bit -- then his eyes grew real serious. Too serious. Silly serious. Running his fingers through his hair Hunter gave wink and something that Willow called "Duck Lips".

"You dork!" Willow snorted. "What are you doing!"

"I'm imagining the costume." Hunter raised his chin with confidence and gave double finger guns. "Yeah. I could totally rock a Roman Centurion look"

"Yeah you could." Willow giggled. She returned his wink and his finger guns, and flexed her bicep which made Hunter's smirk falter slightly. "But you know," Willow said hotly, "I'd be the one waiting for centuries to protect you."

With a moment Hunter's mask of confidence slipped. He felt his eyes grow soft. His ears heated up and he couldn't help but reach out to cup Willow's round face as if she was made of the very porcelain of a teacup. "I would protect you too." He murmured. "We could protect each other."

"Oooooohhhhhh." Willow gasped.

"Speechless, captain?" Hunter's smirk was back. "Because you know I would."

Willow released a breath. Fanning herself dramatically she took Hunter's arm and dropped a kiss right in the middle of his wrist. Right on that awful sigil -- and for a moment it almost felt as if his former life had dissolved under the soft brush of her lips.

"Who's speechless now?" Willow lilted.

In spite of the heat in his stomach, Hunter felt a bit of ice track down his spine. "Maaaaaaaybe we're not ready for those costumes just yet!" He laughed. "B-but we can put it on a list for a future con?"

Willow nodded slowly. "Sound's perfect." She agreed.

"So, we know what we're not gonna do." Hunter mused, "But we still need a costume. We all know Luz and Amity are -"

"Gonna be Azura and Hecate." Willow agreed.

"Classic." Hunter nodded. "But what's classic us?"

They looked at their hands. Fingers intertwined like lace. Like a tiny flame between them. And then? A small smile played upon Hunter's lips.

"Do you trust me?" He asked gently.

"Pfft. Yeah." Willow nodded. "With my everything, guy!"

Willow slipped into the long sea green dress. The sleeves were perfectly puffed at the top. Her neck fastened with smart buttons. Her boots tapped on the ground as she slipped out from behind the changing screen. Placing the round woven hat with a red ribbon on her head she strode out to meet her match.

And Hunter? He looked nothing less than pure magic. Leaning against Willow's dresser in long black slacks, a white gauze shirt and a pink and blue checkered cloak with a red lining. He wore a concealment stone on a rope on his neck that made his hair appear just a bit longer.

And when he rose to meet his witch? Hunter greeted her appropriately. He said, "There you are, sweetheart, sorry I'm late. I was looking everywhere for you."

23.5 ep 1 initial reaction!!!

Been waiting for this one!!!! I’m so excited!!! I love consuming queer media because I’m a lesbian. But there is very sapphic content that I have really enjoyed. Too often it’s unrealistic fetishized toxic red flag material. While high school slice of life isn’t my favorite genre I’m ready for this!! I’m very happy with ep 1 very relatable interesting stylized characters.

Let’s get into the photo review!!!! I didn’t take a ton so don’t expect this too get too wordy

I like how they play with anonymity getting to know someone without fully seeing them or the situation. Starting off scene one. I find it interesting that Sun is always moving to Ongsa it’s very sweet. She’s the one who gets up seeks Ongsa again and again.

Are you a true loser if you haven’t had a mental breakdown in the toilet? 😭 recently I had a panic attack made it to the restroom to hide the effects then accidentally left my BTS Wings tour hat in there. Panic fog is real. But been doing it since high school. Ongsa needs to perfect the quiet melt down lmao.

Sun is so precious. I guess it’s because the show is from Ongsa’s POV but I’m stunned and in love too. She’s really trying her best to be a good person. She finds Ongsa magnetic. It’s not overstated.

Gahhh Ongsa’s nerd happiness is so cute. She must be protected at all costs she can do nothing wrong. Just want to boop her and Latte’s nose.

Awwww Aylin’s advice and defense mechanism is very sweet her looks are Iconic. She says Just be yourself. But then she’s looking for aliens because her classmates says she is one. 😭 painful. But she owns it. I’m jealous.

Big sister squad assemble. The filming thing does make me feel old. I’m sure this is how high schools are these days. I mean people bullied using social media when I was in high school but it wasn’t yet invasive filming. But!! Bullying feels the same. Impersonal. For personal gain.

Also a little confused as to why Ongsa lived in Phuket while her sister was going to school here.

I adore how Sun is falling in love with Ongsa slowly by enjoying her personality and humor. Just as the thing Ongsa loves about Sun is how positive and caring she is. Although Ongsa does already find Sun B E A U T I F U L. Can’t blame her. But Sun intelligently connecting to Ongsa is finding a path to who she really is

Which makes the texting scenes so beautiful. Sun is in Ongsa’s world. I adore the other worldness they are together seeing who they really are. Two beautiful souls trying to connect.

Boop! Oh that's a really fun yet difficult question to answer!

1. I think basically all of the episode "Elsewhere and Elsewhen" is my favourite. She's so wonderfully autistic and relatable <3 Look at her, I will cry. I love her so much :) Bespectacled S2 Lilith is the best (⁠◕⁠ᴗ⁠◕⁠✿⁠)

2. This is kind of similar to the above but again it's the delightful autism, and the recovering from the coven. Her getting to just do the things she enjoys again and to be herself, I just afgfgdf. Goodbye to the perfectionistic self that she had to be in the coven - she needed the coven for a time but she's so much better of now :) look at this little nerd watching the ink dry. (I'm normal about this.)

Her whole friendship with Hooty is also literally the best thing ever. I used to have a friendship that was pretty much exactly that and I really needed to mention how much I love that. I love Hooty and Lilith both and their friendship is just the greatest <3 Best canon ace rep I've ever seen. However that's not what I'm going to pick for my third thing. Because that's this:

The way her voice cracks, the hype... oh you dysfunctional traumatised queen. "I'M A GOD'S AUNT! \⁠(⁠๑⁠╹⁠◡⁠╹⁠๑⁠)⁠ﾉ" Yes, King & Steve are right, she might benefit from working on this, and also it's not good for King. But I loved that we got to see this. It's a thing that makes so much sense, both from an invisible autistic child standpoint and the standpoint of dealing with that in an autistic way. To me it feels cathartic to witness the unconscious coping mechanisms she developed over the years coming out, and it's so cool that the show then let's her grow from it. (This ask has me yet again going full "hold on, I need a moment" about how right The Owl House got this. They did this so well, I've definitely got feelings about this.)

Anyway I could pick more moments and write a whole essay on her (and I'm sad she didn't get more lines in S3) but I've picked this by trying to just go with the first thing that came up. I just think she's neat :D

So that answers your first question, I know your second question was just in case I had answered a question like the first one before. But it is an interesting one, too. However that's even harder to answer for various reasons. But if you want me to, let me know and I'll try my best.

Sam is also an INFJ: deeply a feeling type, introverted, intuitive, but also a very precise decision maker. Even though you two are the same personality type and have some hobbies in common, you still have plenty of differences to balance you out.

Sam would appreciate the fact that you're so deeply empathetic. Someone who cares about others is a very attractive quality to someone like him, who's very passionate himself, and has literally dedicated his life to saving people. And the fact that you take the time to truly listen to him is something he doesn't get very often (besides Dean).

He would also be very amused by your silly side, especially on late nights while researching for hunts, when you're both exhausted but trying to push through that invisible wall of tiredness. Maybe you'd take up funny ways to distract him from reading...

And maybe those funny distractions turn into fun distractions, where Sam may just have to clear off the table for you. 😏

Like you, Sam can also get a bit sarcastic at times. 😅 Sometimes you two might butt heads, all passive-aggressive like, but then he'll make it up to you with those earnest eyes of his, so you can talk out your issues more sincerely.

While Sam shares the quality of bravery, he would also see that and like that quality in you. He not only finds confidence attractive, but also someone who doesn't bend on her principles.

He respects the fact that you're so opinionated, and not only would he listen to your rants, but he would offer his own opinions respectfully, which could lead to some very deep and meaningful conversations between you. (Though he could also be a balancing force for you; if you have moments of getting a bit hot-headed, he'll figure out how to diffuse you. 😂)

He would find your career fascinating! He loves music himself (maybe not the same genres as Dean, but he does listen to rock music). He'd be very supportive, going to your concerts and sitting in the front row. Maybe he wouldn't be the most boisterous of fans, but he's certainly dedicated to you and your success. 💗

And as Dean so often teases him, Sam's a big nerd himself. He's probably never gone to Comic Con, but he's up for that experience with you, as long as you keep him close and help him navigate the cosplayers. (He has some experience with LARPing, so that's kind of close? 😂)

Sam would also love to go on bookstore dates with you. He'd take you to his favorite coffee shop (or yours), and he'd get coffee or tea depending on his mood. He might remind you every now and then that too much caffeine isn't all that good for you (but he really has no room to judge, so feel free to tease him about it 😂).

Then he'd browse the rows and rows of books with you -- whether it's a huge Barnes & Noble, an independent bookstore, or a second-hand thrift shop. He doesn't really care, as long as there's books (and you).

You two often find yourselves exploring the bunker's library together, wiping dust off of old books to see what little treasures you can find, whether it's a book you've read before, or something old and interesting you'd never find otherwise in this vast collection of knowledge.

You and Sam could snuggle up on the couch together and read in a companionable silence.

Sometimes his fingers brush up and down your arm absently, unintentionally distracting you. Or he smoothes your hair out of your face, or even sneaks a kiss or two. Moments like these are when he's his most content, and at peace.

Also, this man is by no means lazy. He may not be the best cook, but he has a "can-do" attitude to pretty much everything, and he's willing to figure it out with you and/or for you. If you need help, an encouraging word, support, or a listening ear, Sam can and will be your steady rock as a partner.

So I’m here to continue an interaction I had with @fearthecoldblood abt “why does Gehrman look so wet?” And being the nerd I am abt 3D models, I can actually give a technical answer XP

So first I re-assembled his model in blender from the bb files (sorry abt his messed up eyebrows, they’re not the focal point of this so I didn’t try to correct them lmao)

But what we have here is a Gehrman with his textures correctly converted and applied. No “wetness”

Here is Gehrman with his textures applied, but with one key difference- his roughness map for his skin was not converted to a “roughness map” hence the reason he looks “wet” (if you can’t see it, look at his brow and cheekbone area, I didn’t exactly reproduce the lighting conditions from the OG post)

“But Blue! What’s a roughness map?”

A roughness map is a type of 3D texture that holds black and white values and when plugged into a shader, tells the shader “black and darker colors means shiny. White and brighter colors are matte.” Or “rough”

Below is an example of a roughness map from one of my own models I’ve made in the past, just so you can get an idea. This was for the leather bits of a character, so all her pouches and boot soles and whatnot are represented in the shapes if you squint.

Now, the reason Gehrman looks shiny by default is because there’s an inverted form of a roughness map called a “gloss map” which is the exact opposite of roughness map values. White = shiny. Grey = matte. Fromsoft still labels this texture as a roughness map though, but when you plug it into the shader and white = shiny, that’s the tip that tells that “this is actually a gloss map that needs to be inverted to roughness.”

“But blue what am I looking at?” It’s his face texture converted to muted gray values. You can see his sun spots on the right if you squint. Then just imagine those being projected onto his face.

So to summarize:

Roughness is white = rough, black = shiny

Gloss is white = shiny, black = rough

And if we are using a roughness based shader, we don’t want colors to be dark where they should be light. So I inverted the values-

And boop! A map that won’t make Gehrman look like he just finished a sprint through the fishing hamlet lmao.

I hope literally any of this made sense and/or was interesting in any way ^^ I love this art form. Just abt to finish some commissions so I hope to get back to some personal projects and post stuff here…soometime soon. Models take lots of time to make.
