Official Paper Castle statement regarding the problematic depictions in World 3
A couple days ago, I contacted the developers of Underhero regarding the troubling caricatures surrounding World 3.
Shortly afterwards- I received a detailed response back from the team acknowledging the harm of the matter, and I have been given permission to share their response publicly to spread information.
Thank you again to @papercastledevs for letting me share this response online, and I hope this official statement is helpful to those who are fans of Underhero or interested in checking out the game!

Hi Paper Castle! I wanted to reach out regarding the harmful indigenous caricatures in Underhero, specifically the "savages" trope depicted in the monkans of World 3. As far as I have noticed, no one has contacted the team about this troubling portrayal but I have seen several folks address it online- and I wanted to ask if these depictions were an accidental oversight on the team's part or intentional? articles that describe the harm of these stereotypes: https://red-face.us/indian-stereotypes-history.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereotypes_of_Indigenous_peoples_of_Canada_and_the_United_States

Hey there! First of all thanks for reaching out, and hope you’ve been having fun playing Underhero. Before getting into it, we should probably clarify that we're developers from Venezuela, not the USA. This is not to say that we're beyond criticism because we're poc, but that certain things that are seen as harmful in the US might have gone over our heads because we come from a different background. It has been pointed out to us before that the depiction of the Pica Pica Tribe in Underhero is problematic, and we have already addressed this criticism and learned to do better in our future games. Beyond that, all we can do at this point is explain our thought process at the time of Underhero’s development, and how it was never intended to be a harmful portrayal of indigenous people. The Pica Pica tribe is actually inspired by the Yanomami, a group of indigenous people who live in Venezuela. Underhero is filled many other references from Venezuelan culture such as this, even though we knew that most players wouldn’t get them. The intent with the depiction of the Pica Pica tribe was that, even though some of the characters are prejudiced against them (namely, Elizabeth), they’re just like all the other minions in the game. We understand now that such depictions are delicate and require a lot of nuance, and we’re truly sorry if this portrayal caused any harm. It was done with the best intentions, and with the hope that we could share a bit of our culture with the rest of the world. Thanks again for reaching out and sharing your thoughts. Best, Paper Castle Team

Beginning UnderHero Thursday (July 6) 7pm Eastern!
Been sitting on this game a sec now, it being the other contender for my first stream, so it's time to stop putting it off!
I ain't know very much bout it I just know some mutuals love it, and I love me a turn-based that gives me opportunity to dodge attacks!
I do have an important and serious note about this game however: I have been made aware there is anti-indigenous stereotyping in UnderHero.
I know not the in-game details of the portrayal, just that the group is called the Pica Pica tribe and unavoidably appears primarily on one specific world, but I don't want to underestimate this claim. My mutual Ascel, who is a fan of the game, reached out to the developers of the team to receive comment on this, which I shall include here and again when we get closer to their appearance. (Link to the Devs' comment)
The rest of my comment on this will be under the cut, as it's a bit long.
In summary, the Pica Pica tribe is based off a tribe native to their country, the Yanomami of Venezuela. They are one of many references within the game to Venezuelan culture, and were intended to be viewed as any other "minions" (not entirely clear on what this means yet). The devs claim to have not known the issues of representation at the time, not having the perspective on indigenous stereotyping we do in the US, but they apologize and promise to do better with future projects.
I try my absolute best to be critical about my media and understand the ways and reasons characters and themes are portrayed, and this is no different. In acknowledging this distasteful aspect of the game and doing some tangential research around this issue, I hope that shows I am not taking this lightly and will do my best to be respectful about it.
Maybe this all seems a bit too serious, but I want to make sure that people know this isn't something I want to brush off or excuse, as I might struggle to articulate this within streams. No media is free of issue, maybe not as potentially glaring or harmful as here, but I believe as long as you acknowledge and do not perpetuate issues within fan content or discussion, it can be enjoyed. (I have exceptions but they're determined on a case by case basis, is the best way I can put it.)
I'll be sure to notify when we are likely to reach this part of the game in a stream for those who may be discomforted by it. Of course if knowing all this gives you a terrible taste about the game as a whole you're free to skip these UnderHero streams, I'll try to split them up with other games and demos from time to time.
This is a silly fun game to my understanding, and I will definitely be as silly and fun as I always am, but I will be mindful of my tone and words regarding this aspect. If anything I say is off color please do let me know, and I encourage you to look into the Yanomami and Venezuelan culture.

Loki Fic Rec List 10
Imagined Slights by eirtae (words: 8,825 | rating: T | Gen)
He wasn’t ever certain when he’d first realized that he was always given his slice of apple second, but he did know that he’d frowned, brows knitted together as he stared down at his slice to keep from looking at Thor. It was a silly thing to care about, and likely untrue in any case. A thing to dismiss, for it was, perhaps, just circumstance; they only spent afternoons together like this once a month, and so perhaps he’d forgotten the times when he’d been given his half first.
Loki: the Rewrite by Ascell, Flyingbooks42, Hydrophius, ILoveDragonsALot, Loki_Lover_1234, Stellophia, willow_of_stars, wnnbdarklord, worstloki (words: 31,806 | rating: M | Gen | WIP )
He was afforded not even a second to process what had just happened. There was no moment to think, no moment to consider the potential consequences, no moment to hesitate: all he knew was that the Tesseract was right there, at his feet, before his eyes, within his reach, that its infinite power called out to him with an overpowering, pulsating hum that brilliantly sang of hope and freedom and opportunity and vengeance.
The decision practically made itself.
Or: the rewrite to Loki (2021) you have all been waiting for.
That made me first your slave by fairychangeling (words: 817 | rating: T | Thorki)
"No free Jotun here,” he says, and he says it so mildly that Thor knows it bothers him.
Loki is never mild.

Decades after his brother’s death, Thor drags Loki’s body out of a fjord in Norway.
He carries him home.
A Matter of Principle by Iamnotreal (words: 5,355 | rating: T | Gen)
Thor leaves half-dead Loki on Stark Tower's doorstep. Miscommunications and feels ensue. You know the drill.
Whumbtober 2021 Day 6. Hunger
Mutationem Fortunae by fairychangeling, fallenappleinc (words: 1,600 | rating: T | Thorki | some dark themes)
Once, Loki was a slave in the Odinson household, but now he is a powerful freeman.
He uses his power and his riches to buy the one thing he desires - Thor Odinson.
whoops by eirtae (words: 6,001 | rating: M | minor Loki/OMC)
While away at Vardalholme studying seidr as an adolescent, Loki discovered girls. Then, much more distressingly, he discovered boys. or, Local Situational Bisexual Shocked to Discover Real Bisexuals Exist
Our One True King by fairychangeling (words: 3,075 | rating: E | Thorki)
Sif has always idolized Thor, her future King, but for Loki she feels nothing but contempt. Hoping Thor will realize his brother is untrustworthy seems pointless until one evening when Loki oversteps the boundaries of Asgardian society.
Staring at Ravens, in Hindsight by eirtae (words: 3,433 | rating: T | Gen)
The day of his birth passed in the year following Loki’s death without much fanfare; a quiet, awkward dinner with family was enough, and did little but serve to remind them all of Loki’s absence. The day of his naming was a larger celebration, a feast that would usually include guests from other Realms but without the bifrost was nothing more than a collection of friends, shield brothers, and the courtiers that Thor had a marginally higher tolerance for. The day of his god naming Thor shunned, allowing a celebration to happen but refusing to attend, for it was also the day of Loki’s god naming, and if Loki could not be there, neither would Thor.

I'm curious do you happen to recommend or know of any good fanfics where at some point in Albus' life the ministry or external factors force AD into working with Gellert or joining him in someway without making AD out of character or evil? Also fanfics where AD is vulnerable and not in control all the time while still being badass exploring another side of his character. I read the fanfic "The Trial of Albus Dumbledore" and it's so good I'm hoping for more like it. :) Thanks
The only one that comes to mind at the moment that I believe has that premise is Lines We’ve Crossed by Ascel @dobranocka
In another world, when a niffler slips free in a catacombs of Père Lachaise, he finds his way to a silver pendant hanging from a coat of a strange looking man. It’s not particularly shiny, but he niffs it anyway, and then goes on his way, until Newt Scamander catches him again.
In this world, he doesn’t, and so things change.
Or: Albus Dumbledore tries to fight a war without fighting at all, and then has to decide what cause is truly worth fighting for.
It’s a WIP, and Albus and Gellert haven’t reunited yet, but I cannot recommend it enough. Excellent writing, good characterisation, and wonderful worldbuilding.
EDIT: Can’t believe I forgot, but this series by FrozenBrownie also matches that description: My hands in yours  @dreamingbrownie
A world already on its head stopped turning when a boy of thirteen years, a student of Hogwarts, died in Albus Dumbledore’s arms. What impact this unnecessary death of a child (again) would have on him, on England, on Hogwarts, neither the watching centaurs nor that desperate wizard with his wrists in unconnected metal chains could have foreseen. There was a man, of course, who did, roused in his sleep from the agitation of his husband over a thousand miles away. And thus, a story different from the one that could have come to pass began.
As for your other request, I’m not entirely sure. It’s a bit vague, so no particular fic comes to mind immediately, sorry.

author interview! Many thanks to @intpdreamer for tagging me - I’m sorry it took me a while to get to this, but I swear, my wrokload has been trying to kill me lately.
name: Ascel on ao3
fandoms: Well, so far I’ve written something for Star Wars, Wonder Woman, MCU, and HP/Fantastic Beasts, of course.
where you post: Mostly on ao3, but I’ve posted a few ficlets on tumblr which I think were kind of too short to post there.
most popular one-shot: If we’re going by kudos, then deepest, most desperate desires
most popular multi-chapter fic: Lines We’ve Crossed
favorite story you’ve written: That’s actually difficult, but I’m very fond of Ghost of You. But I think Lines is my fave in terms of having fun while writing
fic you were nervous to post: Every fic I’ve ever written, honestly.
how you choose your titles: I just wait for a good word or phrase to pop into my head and see if it fits. I tend not to overthink it, but I do borrow words from songs or poems.
do you outline: Short answer: no. Long answer: Not in a traditional way, but I usually have a good idea of how the story will end and how it will get there as I start writing. I also tend to think of my stories in a kind of structured way, which may come from having a lot of background in literature, so I do think of parts of what I’m writing as acts and arcs and narratives. I also try to write down some ideas as they pop into my head, so I use them as a kind of markings - like I will write down a bit of dialogue and then leave it as “and that will happen there” kind of thing.
complete: Well, I’m choosing to go with “written in English” and “posted to ao3″ as criteria - so 8 so far.
in progress: Lines! And, apparently, grindeldore got au, which is trying to take over my brain and writing time.
coming soon/not yet started: I have a few different projects started and some ideas bouncing around, but we’ll see how it will go.
do you accept prompts: Yeah
upcoming story you are most excited to write:.Well, apparently the grindeldore got au which I mentioned - but to be honest I’m mostly exicted to be writing it.
tagging (no pressure!): Let’s see... @the-marron, @quenemarye, @inessencedevided, @cut-off-the-grain, @morganasand, @haleswallows - I hope you don’t mind!

UnderHero Stream Tonight (9/6) 7PM EST!
Yknow tis the usual! Almost done w World 2, will likely start seeing the stuff in World 3, so I'll put the context, dev response, and my stance/view on it under the cut once more, and my summary of the issue with World 3 right below.

loki fic recs with really good world building? can be ship or gen
Loki: the Rewrite by Ascell, Flyingbooks42, Hydrophius, ILoveDragonsALot, Loki_Lover_1234, Stellophia, willow_of_stars, wnnbdarklord, worstloki (words: 31,806 | rating: M | Gen)

Chaos War by astolat (words: 34,203 | rating: E | Thorki)
It was never easy to find Loki when he wanted to hide, but he wasn't doing a particularly good job of it at the moment. Probably he didn't think anyone from Asgard would be wasting their time hunting for him while the shining ones churned their way steadily through all the realm.
When It Sings, When It Lies by dreamsthebirds (words: 14,145 | rating: G | Gen)
Thor AU, based on an awesome norsekink prompt for a scenario in which Heimdall doesn't open the Bifrost to Jotunheim, Odin doesn't ride to the rescue, and Loki is forced to take matters into his own hands.Interdimensional journeys, shattering emotional revelations, and walking trees ensue.
Born to be Kings by Kadorienne (words: 66,618 | rating: T | Thorki)
When the princes of Asgard made their ill-fated jaunt to Jotunheim, Odin arrived to fetch them before the frost giant grabbed Loki's arm. Odin was able to carry out his plan to make Loki his puppet king of Jotunheim. But how long will Loki remain an obedient puppet?
Dead wings carried like a paper kite by illwynd (words: 48,612 | rating: M | Thorki | CW: Dark Themes)
In the heat of battle, Loki kills his brother. As soon as Thor lies dead at his feet, though, he realizes this is not what he wanted. So he brings Thor back, and surely all is well again. Right?
