JAKE PARTY
prev. masterlist. next.
"where is everyone.." hyunjin mumbles from next to y/n.
the shorter boy just shrugs, refreshing twitter for the millionth time to see there's still no new posts worth reading. "no clue. who all is coming?"
"innie said he'd stop by, but no clue when. jisung and minho hyung were grabbing something to eat before coming by, and i think they were picking up sunoo, too." hyunjin scrolls through the texts to make sure he was remembering correctly.
"won texted me that he was gonna stay with niki tonight so he didn't feel left out. should we swing by afterwards?" y/n asks, his head turning up to hyunjin away from his phone.
"yeah, sure. haven't seen niki for a bit. sounds like fun." hyunjin smiles and slide his phone into his jacket pocket.
y/n copies him, shoving his phone away into the back pocket of his pants.
the duo hear a greeting, an arm draping itself around y/n's shoulders as the words spill from their friend's mouth. "hey hyunjin hyung, hey y/nie, what's up?"
"sungie!" y/n smiles brightly, throwing his arms around the new arrival.
"jisung, minho hyung, hey~" hyunjin greets with a smile, his hand lifting up to ruffle the slightly younger boy's hair, earning a pout as he reaches up to fix it.
"we didn't think you'd be here so soon!" y/n cheered, moving over to minho to wrap his arms around him as well. "where's sunoo?" he asks with a tilt of his head.
"volunteered to get our drinks." minho answers swiftly, wasting no time in returning y/n's greeting hug with his own light squeeze.
"how's the party so far?" jisung asks, his arm returning to drape over y/n's shoulders once his hair was sufficiently fixed.
"great now that you guys are here."
"when you say it, you make it sound sarcastic." y/n says as he playfully glares at hyunjin, earning a hit to his shoulder and fits of laughter from the four of them. "he was obsessively checking our gc and twitter for updates on you guys."
"so our hyunjinnie does like having us around, hm?" minho hums playfully, happily teasing the younger.
hyunjin returned the teasing with a soft glare, rolling his eyes and playfully shoving minho's shoulder. "oh shut up, will you? i get those cold, uninspired tendencies from you and you know it."
more laughter erupts from the group as sunoo finally arrives, bumping minho with his hand to get his attention. "your drinks, your highnesses." he says teasingly, handing the solo cups to minho and jisung.
"nothing for yourself?" jisung asks, noticing sunoo not having any bottle tucked under his arm like he usually does when getting drinks for the older two.
he nods, smiling at hyunjin and y/n as a greeting. "yeah. i knew hyunjin hyung and y/nie were here for a bit before us, so i figured i could get my own drink when going to get a refill for them."
"awe, look at sunoo, all grown up and taking care of his hyung~" hyunjin teased, wrapping an arm around sunoo's shoulders to mess with his hair.
"i take it back! i'm not getting you a refill!" sunoo squirms in hyunjin's hold, trying to escape his hold to fix his hair. "it took me so long to do my hair!"
hyunjin immediately pulls away from sunoo, innocently standing next to y/n as if he had done nothing wrong, the only evidence being sunoo's glare at the tall boy and his hands on top of his head to fix his now very messed up hair.
"i'll get your another drink, hyunjinie." y/n says with a smile, reaching towards sunoo to help fix his hair. "let's go together."
sunoo immediately responds with a grin, his hair successfully fixed.
y/n links arms with sunoo to head away from the group with a little wave, calling out "try not to kill hyunjin hyung while we're gone!"
when it came to hosting a party, jake's kitchen was always properly prepared, and the duo knew it. as they joked their way between the people inside the large house, y/n tried to convince sunoo to try branching out from his usual bottle of beer, recommending his own usual drink of hard lemonade.
"where better to try it than when jake is paying for it?"
sunoo groans in repsonse, letting his hand drop away from grabbing the beer bottle so y/n can drag him over to a lemonade. "fine, but only because i just your judgement. but if it's awful, i'm throwing all your left socks in the toilet."
y/n laughs, shoving the newly opened bottle into the black haired boy's hand. "whatever!"
as he made sunoo try the drink, he also reached over to grab a red solo cup for hyunjin, filling it up with the most basic cheap beer that could be found at the party. y/n didn't understand the appeal of going to one of jake's parties just to have the regular cheap beer that could be found at any other party in the city.
y/n always liked that jake's parties had a better variety. with his older brother actually being old enough to buy alcohol, he was usually fine with pulling out his id for whatever jake wanted to get for a party so long as he wasn't the one having to pay for it.
he was about to grab himself his own drink when looked back at sunoo to find his reaction, only to spot someone over the other boy's shoulder.
the smile on his face immediately fell, his mood falling with every passing second.
taeseok was at the party.
and he had yeji practically draped over his arm.
"uh, do you mind taking this to hyunjin hyung for me?"
"huh? what's wrong?" despite sunoo questioning y/n, he takes the drink y/n extended for him, turning over his shoulder to look around.
y/n didn't give him much time to do that, though. "it's nothing, don't worry. just remembered about taeseok, is all." he waved off sunoo's worry, summoning his grin again, though it was a bit shaky. "i just need a bit of air, i'll be outside."
sunoo nodded, a worried look on his face. "okay, if you're sure... if you want us there, just text, alright?"
y/n nods, lightly pushing sunoo out of the kitchen. "for sure! i'll catch up with you later."
after sunoo went to return to the group, y/n dropped his fake smile, turning to stumble between the people inside. as he failed miserably to seamlessly weave between people, he nearly found himself walking directly into jake, mumbling a "sorry" as he made his way outside. he wanted air.
he wanted to breathe.
as soon as he emerged through the open door, y/n released a breath he barely noticed he had been holding.
it was all still so fresh, he didn't need a reminder already. it hurt enough just thinking about, even without having to see his face on top of the already burning emotions.
y/n makes his way from the door, taking a few steps away to allow room for others to go in and out as they please.
he takes deep breaths, his eyes closed and head tilted back towards the sky, attempting to calm himself down. however, this wasn't the smartest thing that a drunk boy such as y/n could be doing at a party.
which he was soon made aware of as he walked face-first into someone's back.
he stumbled back a bit, his eyes shooting open to look up at who he ran into and immediately spit out a nervous apology. "i'm so sorry, i wasn't watching where i was going! i hope i didn't spill your drink or anything.."
the stranger shook his head, smiling gently at y/n. "no, not at all. i was just a bit surprised."
y/n looks down at the drink the stranger is holding, just to be certain the man wasn't lying to make him feel better, but was a bit surprised to only see a half empty bottle of water.
the stranger could obviously see y/n's confusion. "no ride tonight, gotta be able to drive."
y/n nods, finally looking up at who he was talking to. his face seemed familiar, but y/n was far too drunk to remember anything about him. which is odd, because he had a uniquely attractive face.
the bonus of his height and clothing style made him seem as if he was straight out of a manga.
the stranger's friend cleared his throat with a very fake cough to get the stranger's attention. "since i do have a ride home, i'll be going to get myself another drink."
and then, y/n was left alone with this stranger.
"so, what has you coming all the way out here? most of the fun is either inside or by the pool."
"i saw the guy i broke up with two days ago in there with the girl he liked the whole time we dated."
sober y/n would never have admitted to that. he probably would have made some excuse about wanting to get out for a breath of air for a little bit, or claimed his friends had wanted to meet up outside to leave.
"damn, that's brutal..." it was hard to distinguish if the stranger was giving him a look of pity or empathy, but either way, it earned a shrug from y/n.
"i dunoo, it's not like he cheated on me or anything. turns out that six months ago, his friend put his confession letter on the wrong desk. but the whole time, he was really respectful towards me about it. he never did anything towards her because he was dating me."
the stranger shrugs at y/n, taking a drink from his water before replying. "seems kind of like a dick move to me for him to date you that whole time when he didn't even like you like that. cuz even if he was good towards you, he was still always thinking about that girl the whole time. and showing up two days later with her on his arm isn't that great either."
"yeah, but it'd be pretty hard to find a better boyfriend than him around."
"there's plenty of better guys."
"yeah? like who?"
"me."
y/n couldn't help the backflips his stomach did at the single word. me. it was probably the alcohol that found that so intriguing, but it didn't matter. because before he could even open his mouth to respond, his phone was ringing for hyunjin to tell him that jeongin had arrived.
"i gotta go, but it was really nice meeting you. bye."
y/n waves a little, the stranger waving back with the most adorable smile.
maybe he was right, and taeseok had been an asshole during the whole relationship. but even so, y/n would need a whole lot more time before he would be ready to accept it, and even more time before he could let himself move on to another relationship.
and maybe he could see that guy at another party in the future. and get his name this time.
