hi, so i was able to stumble on something really interesting: an interview with the vampire one volume manga adaptation called "yoake no vampire" that came out shortly after the original movie did in 1994. as an adaptation it's very faithful to the book, just really condensed.

the first two chapters got scanlated into english from japanese 13 years ago, but the last one never was. unfortunately the japanese raws of the thing are no longer online but i was able to find a portuguese scanlation of the last chapter. i ended up doing what i would call "edited machine translation" on it (consulting a portuguese version of the original book to cross reference translations since a lot of dialogue was taken directly, checking dictionaries to confirm translations, redrawing some parts, etc). it's not perfect but i think it makes sense from beginning to end.

would people still be interested in me sharing? i would also include the portuguese "raws" of course (the translation group is defunct now but with credit to them ofc) i figured it might be a fun treat for anyone who's already read the book while we wait for the later episodes of the amc show (but also just for book!iwtv fans).

I’d like to think that Sophie would tell Howl that she was with child by using her flowers. Like instead of telling him simply and directly, she planted daffodils and baby’s breath around the house until he noticed and asked her about it. It took him 2 days to notice, and a week before he asked. Needless to say, he had no clue ‘till Sophie told him about it :)

okay... but youre not allowed to make fun of me... its called "50 tea recipes from the duchess." korean woman gets fired, gets isekai'd into the body of a duchess who is timid to the point of patheticness and everybody fuckin hates her. is like uggghh well i dont care if im hated as long as i have my special interest: TEA. and with her autistic girl swag (label pending) she makes both the society and her cold intimidating husband love her. 70% of it is her infodumping about tea to the delight of everyone around her.

Manga haul!! I did end up going on my usual bookstore trip!!

#prince's talk tag #bloom into you continues to elude me. i need 6-8 and they only had 8 #i am excited to catch up with sasaki bc i really wanna read the spinoff but i held off until i was caught up #after catching up with witch hat i wanted to continue it asap so i was able to find the next two i needed #idk was she and her cat is but it looks cute #last gender i was reading it online but they didnt have all the chapters even tho the 3rd vol said it was the last one #and i wanna see how it ends #you know i sold a few books at a second hand shop and they gave like pocket change for all of them #im a little annoyed but whatever at least theyre out of my hands #they didnt take one of them bc i think it was too trashy of a manga for them to sell like its just sex really #but i took care of it. i kinda figured they wouldn't but their website didnt specify if theyd take very mature books so i tried it out #and now i know #thats the current vol of classmates out rn after that ill be caught up #i saw the pet agency one on amazon amd didn't know what it was but it was at the bnn with the big selection so why not #something interesting about that bnn so it has 4 floors and the manga is on the 4th floor so i gotta take the escalators up #and on the second floor was a lego statue of h*rry p*tter holding the trans and genderfluid flags #the area this bnn is in is lgbtq+ friendly. having multiple tables and sections in the store dedicated to lgbtq+ books #and even decorating the tables and bannisters with pride flags #im wondering if the made him hold those flags as a fuck you to the author #bc its not like the store wanted to put it up. it was most likely an order from home office #who knows? i dont work there

The plot point where Fathom was forced to not spend time with Indigo because "they may marry and have babies and we don't want more animus dragons after what happened with Albatross" was... kinda dumb? I don't have the same hate for "This plot point happens because this character isn't thinking rationally or is just wrong and doesn't know it" as other people do because sometimes that just happens irl, and I guess you can excuse this with Fathom's sister being a traumatized child forced into a position of power and is VERY paranoid about her brother who has the same powers as her parents' murderer, but as they grow older...

I mean I guess she could have doubled down on that but it's kinda dumb how no one ever points out how her logic makes no sense. Fathom himself is an animus because of recessive genes from Albatross, who iirc was a great uncle instead of a direct grandparent, so when his sister has to have children later on, she's still passing on the gene. It's weird. It feels like a really forced plot so Tui could write dragon teen romance drama alongside the already existing dragon teen romance drama with Darkstalker and Clearsight.

#the ending where they run away and have kids anyways is cute but i also dont care for the implication #that thats why seawing animus still exist. like cmon now no its not #also it just kinda feels weird bc iirc it doesnt really even matter when fathom runs in with darkstalker #he thinks about it a few times and talks about it with darkstalker but ultimately it doesnt matter that much to the core plot #besides giving fathom a reason to disown darkstalker when he realizes what he did to indigo #which he didnt need the ''he cant have babies'' plot to do #also this is another reason why this book should have had these characters be adults

#Song Of Silver Flame like Night #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #with the caveat that i am clearly not the audience. i kinda hated this lol #for a few very specific reasons #i think there’s interesting concepts & worldbuilding #but i am just so burnt out on girl-and-boy-with-no-friends-and-instant-attraction-travelling-together as the centre of a story yknow #this random girl dies and then after she’s referring to her as her best friend but like….i didn’t get that from their single conversation.#it almost feels like shoved in last minute because of feedback of no other female friendships #when there’s finally another woman it’s the stereotype of a mean girl. and they are just calling each other bitches and whores….like jesus…#she is so one dimensional but also in concept she is 20x cooler than the mc sorry i’m rooting for her now #from the end seems like they’ll be forced to work together and probably become reluctant allies/friends in book 2 or something but like….#if that was intended from the beginning you have to make the initial hatred make sense in the first place #also boys getting all embarrassed by periods……it’s 2023. come on. it's not cute and endearing.#if ur looking for dragons bc of the cover. there are barely dragons. the one shows up in like the last chapter #also the audiobook narration is one of those where the normal narration is a normal voice but the dialogue is so cartoony?#like the girls have such high pitched voices.the boys have the deeper voice. except for like random side boys who have comical ones.#idk none of them sound like real people #things i did like: the magic i guess. though to be quite honest the colonisers metal based magic seemed more original and interesting asdhgf #i thought there were some interesting elements to the dudes backstory #oh another thing i disliked is theres a side character with a cleft lip and the MC brings it up EVERY TIME like like.....what.#every time she sees him shes like. ppl used to discriminate #against this and call them (a bunch of slurs) and say they're cursed but actually maybe it's just a scar. people used to call them slurs btw #. i am going to bring this up every time i look at them.

#sw #death star novel #i'm most of the way finished with it and dear g-d.#do ya'll seriously like this novel???????#i need to know what the actual ultimate end-all-be-all daala x tarkin book is bc it is not this one surely.#she's barely in it! she is just here to be his yes man and have a few cute moments with him and that's it.#she is meant to be the main investigator for the mysterious ship explosion that happened but then she retained #memory loss of the past six months after some brain trauma caused in a fight. and then she got shipped back off to the maw.#like any agency and importance she had as a character besides being an emotional base to tarkin (who is also barely in it)#was rendered utterly and totally useless. like she doesn't matter at all besides a few hey we totally care about giving tarkin an arc #/lying moments from the authors. like? they don't even actually utilize her as a tool to uplift tarkin's character arc. she's basically #just there for the investigation (which is now a fridged plot point? i'm assuming that's that on that for its importance to #the story bc she was the only one who knew anything about it and her memory got fucked) and they immediately threw that away #bc it wouldn't fit with anh plotwise and her injury was used for like. two or three scenes of tarkin being kinda nervous.#that's it. like the writers obviously don't care about tarkin and it's killing me bc he is objectively one of the most interesting #characters in the death star novel's mile-long cast of boring apolitical straight couples.#also they make tarkin and vader mildly irritated with each other. even when this book came out (mid 00s) vader and tarkin #were still canonically friends. like in anh. the first movie. the movie that the rest of either canon is based upon.#but whatever! i hate when sw authors ignore canon just bc they personally don't like tarkin like shut up!#get somebody who does like him to write him for g-d's sake.#and that's not even really touching on just how misogynistic this book's writing of every single female character is lmaooo #like daala is the best written woman in it imo and i just ranted about how they used her exclusively as a crux to tarkin's emotions.#insane that she didn't have a first name for over 20 years. that says it all right there.
