my first reactions to 1989 taylor's version !!

i am SO HAPPY this album is finally out!!! here are my initial thoughts!! and ofc i've already heard the non-vaults but i put my reactions anyway (:

welcome to new york: YES OHH MY GOD!! this is what i want re-records to sound like! very similar but so crisp and her voice is sm better. this song is so overhated and i hope the re-record opens y'alls eyes

blank space: CRISP. SO CRISP. i'm in love. literally the same but better. did i mention it's crisp bc WOWWWWW it is

style: i'm sure it'll grow on me but! i don't love it! the production is funky. but i love her voice ofc, i just wish the instrumental was more like the og (especially the intro)

out of the woods: YESSSSS!!!! i've never liked ootw as much as everyone else and idk if this has changed it but it is undeniably a BANGER, her voice is insanely good

all you had to do was stay: all you had to do was slay. and it did. amazing

shake it off: OH MY GOD YES. YES. this song defined my childhood i'm so glad it was done justice. the drums in the beginning? OBSESSED.

i wish you would: i think i prefer the og but this is absolutely doing it justice! truly one of her most underrated songs i love it sm and this version sounds amazing

bad blood: HER VOICE IMPROVEMENT IS ACTUALLY INSANE. very solid re-record also. but WOW she sounds AMAZING

wildest dreams: ik it's been out for a longg time but this is such a fucking good re-record! this is how you do it!

how you get the girl: OKAYYY!!!! there r some funky production things going on but i like it a lot!!

this love: already heard it and love her ofc!

i know places: HOLY SHIT. this is fucking insane???? the IMPROVEMENT??? THE 'AND WE RUN'????? fucking incredible i can't even

you are in love: yail is one of my fav songs oat so i was very nervous about it sounding worse and i am very happy to say i still adore it! my song forever and ever

"slut!": this is not at ALL what i expected BUT I LOVE IT??? the instrumental is kinda weird but not in a bad way. and I AM OBSESSEDDD WITH THE LYRICS

now that we don't talk: fully gasped at the yacht lyric LMFAOO. I LOVE THIS!!!! THIS VAULT IS SO FUCKING GOOD!!! wish it had a bridge but still, love the witty lyrics and sound

suburban legends: again not at all what i was expecting but i rlly like this!!

overall: I AM SO HAPPY THIS EXISTS. while i prefer the OG for a few songs, i think the improvement is insane for 90% of this album and i'm so glad about that. and the vault? HELLLOOO??? incredible. will be streaming 4ever. i love taylor swift thank u goodnight

currently, i am buzzing with excitement so excuse incoherence that is VERY likely to take over the following paragraphs (i'll try to keep the text as short as possible though because everything comes down to a playlist and that is the important part :)

here's the playlist wohoooo:

SO. VU has released five studio albums with the addition of songs Lou Reed included in his first solo album, two years after having left the Velvet Underground (they were originally performed by the band, they just weren't officially released at the time) After careful consideration (boy, it was messsssssyyyy), I decided to include the VU versions of the songs in the playlist above aka VU versions only, simply because I knew that if I did start listing Lou Reed songs we'd end up with my VU/Lou playlist which is approximately 21h long 🤩 I couldn't help but include live versions of certain tracks and Stephanie Says makes two appearances in total, but you didn't see that.

FOR THE ALBUMS! The Velvet Underground & Nico is an obligatory experience simply because it's a classic, regardless of... well anything.

Personally, I feel as though you'd like The Velvet Underground (1967) the best. (it's the one with Candy Says!!!!!) AND there's a SUPER DELUXE version 🤩

restless feeling (AH!!! I just think this is the perfect title for a VU starter pack playlist. anyways. Jo March + "I am angry and restless" blah blah blah, sorry to everyone but..... she'd pretend to hate TSwift and have the velvets On. Repeat. I know her personally. I am Correct.) comes from SundayMorning.mp3 which is a track you should listen to on every Sunday morning. Ever. Including every Sunday from the past. *here's my time machine*

restless feeling (love typing that sm I am Normal and so not restless) features a Runaways cover of Rock & Roll because it is too good and it must be thereeeeeee (it's also shaped like my soul. that's how my soul looks like. like if you put my soul in a 🧫 to be exact)

ramblin about cracker island and random 'rillaz stuff. it's long & disjointed

i'll start off by saying i think a lot of the songs are jams. this is my intelligent nuanced music take. it's fun, but it's safe, and safe isn't always good or appealing. that being said... i like safe, i like it as much as i like experimental and as much as i like genre pushing. it isn't my favorite album but it's got jams. my favorite from the main album is tarantula and my favorite bonus track is crocadillaz. like, thumbs up

listening to it completely divorced from what the album is meant to be (aka what damon has said) is possible which, maybe i'm missing the cult/worship/new age social media references in some of the songs but i won't write it completely off if i'm not understanding how it tackles the cult theme. not that this is a cracker island exclusive issue i think. but it doesn't do an overarching theme as cleanly as like, Demon Days and The Now Now. but it isn't completely divorced from the theme, like the tired influencer/new gold/cracker island carry the cult ideas to me. baby queen, is so cute, but feels out of place lyrically. but it brings groove to a groovy album... maybe time will tell and it will become more apparent. when i go to rewatch somr MVs frkm Humanz days there's comments like "i didn't realize how real this was until <insert event> happened" maybe that'll happen for this album lol

i think the most egregious thing is del being restricted to a bonus/deluxe release. like come on!!! all of the bonus/deluxe tracks are worthy enough to be in the main album. on top of that, crocadillaz is my favorite from the bonuses, i would be gutted if i spent so much money on their pricey physicals just to learn i can't even listen to crocadillaz on my fancy vinyl especially it being dave of de la soul's first posthumous release?. i'm going to make an aside here - crocadillaz lyrics encompass the idea of celeb cult to me. i think if they went down this path lyrically, even keeping the musical production i would have fallen in love with the album's purpose lol (but that's just fan-brain taking over). i agree when i read wishes for the collaborators to have more of a voice in the songs especially stevie nicks and bootie brown (speaking of bootie brown. his feature in new gold was the one that made me go oh man wish i could hear you better.)

maybe it helps that i wasn't and probably will never be involved in tracking every move the band makes as they release music and building up expectations. i like picking through it later or being told about what's been going on (this phase's info has been relayed to me over the year it took to release by my brother) i decided to make a blog about since i'm back on tumblr for other fandom stuff in 2022, (this is a sideblog!) i loved the band for a long time but my interest wanes and waxes and right now it's in a massive upswing hence this blog and long post. when demon days was releasing is when i was actually aware they're a band and not just some random thing i found off miniclip (re-ups of flash games), i just allowed people to tell me about it instead of getting into the music side, due to loss of internet and life circumstances. i lived outside of the USA for a bit and home life was a bit difficult but coming back to school and seeing demon days TSHIRTS blew my fucking mind lol they were always the 'car game band' to kid me. i was never into the whole 'get SMS from the band/play on the website/forum/go to concerts' stuff. except 19-2000 game. that was a kitchen computer staple. ok i got carried away here. but i'm just saying that i'm a casual fan so take my opinion through that lens. (i do want to see them live one day)

when hearing about the circumstances cracker island was created and released under, i can't feel like it's a black mark on their discography for being a safe pop-y album, if it's something spur of the moment after (another) failed go at the movie then i can get why it sounds unfinished and the art is repetitive. on another note, i don't know why they release music in that fashion (as in, spamming singles for so long. it made me wonder what's going on between label and owner but i'm ignorant of music practices) aside- i do not want a movie i really do not unless they really kept the mockumentary angle! it would be easier even if it was mockumentary bc there's no need to keep all the lore straight lol and it can be flexible. at this point it's been so long that i think, maybe it's time to hang up the hat on that front...

TL;DR: if it was meant to be a pop album it served its purpose well, if it was meant to be commentary on cults that's a bit weaker

here's my thoughts on the loooooore:

my disclaimer here is that i still feel like the gorillaz characters are... characters? mouthpieces? so i don't really care much for the newer interviews being centered around fictional hijinks and less about making music, which was more interesting to me as i'm musically dense... i kind of ignore it and feel like nothing is lost by doing that. i think their marketing is going overboard but times change and you need to beg for streams i guess. i don't see it as completely different as what they always kind of did, as i read that s/t gorillaz was marketed towards youngeee people rather than solely adults and you can see that in the tie-ins and the game and such (and the fact that theyre cartoons!). i just have a chip on my shoulder over tiktok. i sound old but i literally am not, only turning 26 this year... that isn't old. but murdoc is. and grandpa murdoc is kind of funny that's my red flag

i'm reading Rise of the Ogre right now and i'm assuming this is the quality some people wish the interviews would have? i can agree... but. i can't bite my hat over it not being the norm anymore. i think i'd be genuinely put off if the band were actual characters with overarching plots along their entire existence, the whole point is that they're 2D (lol) and you can do things in 2 dimensions that real people can't. they're musicians one day and making cyborgs the next and reanimating the dead and collabing with snoop dogg it's better to play fast and loose IMO. so far ROTO feels like an in-between of band characters and wacky hijinks characters which is nice i guess, but i do really really love the way its written so far. the music chart is gorgeous

the older phases had so many unsavory moments art-wise that i can't line it up to current stuff and wish it was the same as back then, which is probably why i accept "OOC" stuff. like i genuinely think noodle's depiction/description now is better than the early phases. even if the style/form speaks to me more with heavy lineart and grungy mood it was always uncomfortable with the racist depictions. a lot of the stuff surrounding russel seems to be literally interview or book only since i never heard of half of this shit, being a music video only and the occasional concert rip watcher.

so on cracker island story/lore... it does feel OOC. my brief snoop around what the internet feels aboit the album character-wise makes me think it's pointless to rehash why i think it's OOC, but it isn't to the point of ruin, not even close. the older phases 2D (ans the cast) still exists, he isn't a human being thank god and you can do whatever you want with him, it's not like real people who act different and will never be who they were years ago, all iterations of the gorillaz characters exist. they aren't linear characters either and they were never meant for a story with concrete/stable facts, so returning to a point or going to a different point isn't permanent, i kind of felt that was the point. i find it annoying, yes, but it's not damaging to the band as a whole to me so it's more of an annoyance than total destruction of gorillaz theme. on the disuse of characters like russel, that's more annoying to me tbh than 2D being a cutesy ditz

i wanted somewhere to dump all my thoughts after talking about it to friends and my brother, since, i've been 'into' gorillaz for so long, but never was seriously into the characters themselves, so reading all this stuff and falling into it is kind of fun. it's less aggravating to be in the middle of it years after years i bet. the reason this post might sound defensive is influenced by one convo i had where someone laid out all the band's marketing activity for this album which i found cringey, but not the end of the world. interesting because i think i just entered this 'fandom space' when people are gnashing over lore stuff. i think my cerebrospinal fluid is too lukewarm to get affronted aside from things like 'gee wish they kept russel's music appreciation, taxidermy interest, and eloquence'. if you couldn't tell i still like some of the themes of the older iterations!

you can argue that they lost the message of not being sanitized for the masses but... i feel like brand deals kind of impact that message wayyy more, and Do ya thang is one of my favorite tracks and that was to sell some damn shoes, Converse somehow literally still owns the rights to that (?!). plus, fan backlash over mentioning politics in Humanz means you can't really be surprised they're smoothing themselves down more in that department. at least, that's my perspective. my biggest wish is always that i want the creators of the music and owners of these characters to do what they want currently but, i guess i don't know how brands work and how flexible they can be

to wrap this stream of consciousness up, i will say i'm very easy to please music-wise, so there hasn't ever been gorillaz MUSIC where i felt was bad, yeah i'm one of those fans. i'm always ready to admit i'm biased from nostalgia as well as certain songs being released during crazy times of my life. it is difficult even rank my favorite albums because i feel like it's a disservice to put one below the other lol... i like The Fall. i like Humanz for an entirely different reason. my favorite song from gorillaz of all time is White Flag i could shout it from the top of a roof, but then i still like The Now Now as a whole album better than Plastic Beach. i genuinely tuned out to the entire band after Humanz because the backlash hallelujah money got made me so sad... oh what else... i cry so easily to gorillaz tracks. i can't get through TNN without tearing up. i want to make merch for myself since the store is difficult to purchase from and i want some stickers. ok that's all '_' !!! if you read this long/scrolled somehow then here

15. nice to meet ya i promise all the singles aren’t at the bottom... ntmy bangs it does & i loved it a lot as our first look into the album! the mv is fun too i loved the lil hints it dropped for hbw. for me it simply does not go as hard as the others </3

14. san francisco love the imagery of a soaking wet niall showing up at your doorstep. also i think this song works so well as a second-to-last song, especially following the storyline of the album. n it has nice vibes!!! just not the fave

I kinda can’t believe it’s here now. The waiting and anticipation was so much fun I’m actually a bit sad it’s over now. But thankfully we still have soooo much content to look forward to! I really hope Taylor brings out another documentary someday! What’s something you really want her to do?

I’m also already kinda dreading tour announcements bc I obviously want to go see her but I also dont want to go alone and it’s gonna be expensive and with Covid still.. (I live with someone immunocompromised and have asthma myself so still have to be careful) but not going sounds shit and I would have the biggest FOMO. aaaaaaaaaah!!!

And I hope things feel better for you soon 💕 life gets so overwhelming sometimes but hey, we got this. Somehow, things will be okay. Just gotta always believe that. And sometimes we have to cry a bit and feel our feelings so they can pass. Just make sure to take care of yourself.

yeah, for sure!!! I love the whole album, even the ones I ranked lower. for me it's her best pop album to date, she did SOMETHING! and I'm so glad we are having visuals this era!!!! I missed it sm

I would love to see a documentary like LPSS! it was so interesting hearing about it and I love the "live" versions but I'm just so so so happy with all we got already!!! and the visuals?? impeccable

this is such a good idea too! I'd love to hear her. maybe she can get a space somewhere and just record a few episodes? I don't know... I just would love to hear her opinion about random things like books or movies hahaha

Omg i love your theory about the deluxe and bonus tracks. It actually makes sm sense (now i'm even more excited for LT3. I know it's too soon but i'm always excited for new Louis content from tour to new music,the documentary.. anything Louis' big brain has worked on really). Thank you for sharing 💙(and pls continue to do so your theories are the best and your thoughts are always interesting 🥰).

I wonder if he is already working on LT3 before tour like he said wanted to…. But we definitely won’t get new music till after this tour is done which won’t be till mid-to-late 2024

You probably used art/books to get away from the things going around you, to bring yourself into a new world. You never grew out of this "phase", you probably want to be a writer, director, artist, etc etc when you grow up even if people tell you to get a real job, you probably felt left out during elementary career day because they never had creative jobs just firefighters and cops. Your favorite class is probably art or creative writing/english, you haven't found your people yet. A Talk With BREATH, Portland’s New Meditative Doom Metal Duo

We're used to doom metal being, well, rather dark and sinister, but can it be meditative too? OM, the famous Al Cisneros side project, proved that yes, it can. Other acts, such as the celebrated UK band Bong, the New Brunswick trio Zaum followed (with Italy's Ufomammut, Finland's Dark Buddha Rising, and Ukraine's Bomg being just a step away with their generous, if often louder, landscapes).

Then I encountered doom metal yoga in Portland, and all bets were off.

Last month, Doomed & Stoned introduced you to another band you can add to your short list, whether listening in your Savasana stance ("corpse pose"), getting your groove on at work, or doing a little wake 'n bake to start the day.

This is BREATH from the City of Roses and on February 5th, all mysteries will be revealed as the meditative doom duo brings us their debut LP, 'Primeval Transmissions' (2021) on Desert Records.

Their music "is informed by adventures leaving the comforts of what was known behind. Going into unknown woods sometimes figuratively and some literal. With heavy melodically driven grooves their Meditation Doom will take you to secluded caves, and totemic vision quests'' (band bio).

Over the weekend, I traded words with Steven O'Kelly (bass guitar, vox) and Ian Caton (drums, percussion) recently to get to know this new name in the Pacific Northwest heavy underground. Doomed & Stoned also takes this opportunity to share a new visualizer with you for Breath's latest single, "Observer."

Breath - Observer

What themes and concepts does Breath explore musically and lyrically?

Peering into rituals meant to transcend the physical world. Initiations into the varied mystery schools like Orphism or Druidry I find very powerful. The Shamanistic role being so selfless putting themselves through extreme trials, shedding their previous self to protect their people by communication with spirit.

These things have lots of weight with sacrifice, and knowledge seeking from traditions nearly lost to time. Our sound aims to reflect that weight through the way we use the bass guitar and drums. I think a theme of meditation informs a lot of the riffs with spaciousness and transformation.

Who are your musical influences?

Foundationally, Black Sabbath is a center pillar. My first record being a Sabbath compilation by Earmark. I appreciate the balance they find between settled songs like "Orchid" leading into its counterpart "Lord of this World." Grails’ Burning Off Impurities is such a vehicle that I would get lost in through the whole record. Melting boundaries of East and West with Zak Riles’ classical guitar and the crushing drum work by Emil Amos.

That brings me to Om, which is an important band to me that struck a chord all the way through from the music to aesthetic. Every show I’ve been to is like I’ve snuck into a temple ceremony, and leave feeling light on my feet and blissfully ringing eardrums. "On the Mountain at Dawn" is the heaviest song to me, with this immediacy and undeniable flow like the strong current of a river.

What sort of gear do you guys perform and record with?

Ian: DW Performance series Drum kit with Maple shells. Remo heads and Aquarian Kick Drum head. Zildjian K cymbals.

Steven: 4003 Rickenbacker bass guitar. Electric Amp Innovations Power Unit 180. Ampeg 8x10 speaker cabinet. Geezer Butler Cry Baby bass wah. MXR bass compressor. Ernie Ball VP Jr. Electro Harmonix Freeze. Deluxe Bass Big Muff. Also, Shure SM 58 and VE-20 Boss Vocal Performer.

You've mentioned gaining inspiration from solitary walks in the woods. What does the Oregon outdoors mean to you and how does it stir your creative processes?

When I first tried meditation, I was given this palm sized booklet by Buddhadasa Bhikkhu on breathwork as the entrance to a practice. Feeling and visualizing blue water filling and then leaving the well of your lungs. The band like our actual breath is a lifeblood for me. Making music and lyrics I can easily and gladly lose myself in. That practice I believe is responsible for shaping our sound.

Sometimes I feel a sort of unspoken conversation with the trees that surround, lots of times getting most lyrical ideas during these hikes. Boundaries are fluid in this space, and by its very nature puts my mind out of whatever box it might’ve been in before. Wilderness here has lots of personalities through wind, rain, and sun. For me, watching trees come alive moving in the wind or the quiet calm after a rain breeds deep reflection. Nature is a mirror.

What's the biggest epiphany or the strangest thing that you've experienced while being surrounded by Mother Nature?

On a summer day at Mt. Tabor in East Portland sitting in a secluded grassy opening circled by trees, I had the most psychedelic out of body experience without the aid of eating anything. High through trance, I came to the plants and tree’s awareness of me and I them. Like they knew my name.

Many of your tracks tell a story. Are these original tales or based upon the band's own mythos?

Whether I identify with an archetype or am retelling an experience I had, All the lyrics have roots in my real life even if themes might be far flung from our time.

Primeval Transmissions by Breath

Give us a walk through your new record, track by track, if you will.

Track 1 Starting with "Evocation," it’s a mixture of Shamanistic ritual and the effects meditation can have in clearing hurdles of adversity. I had been reading a book on Druid Lore and their equivalents around the world. Then I discovered Werner Herzog’s Cave of Forgotten Dreams and was completely spellbound. Seeing cave paintings perfectly intact, it’s entrance hidden by a rock slide before Roman times in France. This painted a visual counterpart to my reading and was consumed with the world it represented. Hallucinogenic trance, their soul migrating to the spirit world through the rising smoke of the fire lighting cave art meant to dance with flickering flame. Taking on an animal guide and returning anew.

Track 2 "Dwarka" at its roots is a story about confrontation with otherworldly phenomena. There’s two personalities to it. At first the ominous impending arrival and, the character coming to grips with what he’s witnessed. The nature of the main riff reflects the enormity of space, and what might be out there. I feel like the energy of the song mirrors how the witness felt, getting heavier as the night becomes more harrowing.

Track 3 "Observer" bridges my love of Eastern music like Ravi Shankar and Baris Manco with metal accents. It’s the journey your mind can take through meditation, simply focusing on your breath and how it can lead to intensity. Mainly one riff building and transforming over the course of Observer. The lyrics are a recording of Sri Swami Satchidananda leading Hatha Yoga, an important teacher for me.

Track 4 "Battle for Harmonic Balance" is centered around the ancient mystery schools of the left and right Eye of Horus. Invoking themes of renewal like the Akhet, a Sun rising between two mountains. Heaviness from the beginning reflecting the weight of importance Egypt holds to me, being a cornerstone of our past. The riff deconstructs towards the end, aligning the song like the Sphinx during the Equinox. Facing East to summon the Sun once more. "Halls of Amenti" is the realm of the Gods, where the Sun goes at night. An ethereal ceremony exchanging distortion and drums for the hypnotic beat of a Shaker and deep Bass guitar.

Track 5 The reprise to "Evocation" is a continuation of the Shaman’s trek across the razor’s edge. With this offering without lyrics we convey the obstacles, lulls, and successful return starting with the similar ritual beginning as its first chapter. This is followed by a call and response conversation between drums and bass guitar. Floating in the ether until finding his way alongside the totemic animal guide culminating at the end, returning to body like the tide returns out to Sea.

It was thirty degrees outside, and you were in line waiting for hot chocolate from a food truck.

As your luck usually went, it could’ve been worse. You could have been like the lady behind you, who somehow thought that dressing cute was more important than her health, and was wearing only one layer of clothing that didn’t look like it was providing much warmth. You could also be so unlucky as to be the guy who had just reached the front of the line, only to realize he had forgotten his wallet. Fortunately, your luck was just good enough that you weren’t either of those people, because you had your money stuffed into the back of your phone case, and your boyfriends jacket was just thick enough to keep the harsh winds to a minimum.

Unfortunately, your luck ended with that. Your body was warm, but you had forgotten gloves and a beanie, so your fingers and ears felt like they could fall off at any given moment. You had also managed to get the news about the truck late, so you had been in line for about twenty minutes already.

You were only doing this because of aforementioned boyfriend, of course, because he had been busy beyond belief lately and today was his first day off in weeks. When you heard that Benji’s was going to be driving around the city and stopping in several areas throughout the day you had been ecstatic. Lucas never shut up about their hot cocoa since last winter, and since the truck was only every used randomly, you had taken the chance and woken up early and did your best to track down the bright red vehicle. Of course, now that you were only six people away from finally getting the hot cocoa, you were starting to regret it. Your feet were aching and a mix of cold and sweaty, and your back felt like it might crack in half from the constant standing.

Lucas hadn’t noticed you were gone yet, you guessed, or he was still asleep. You wouldn’t blame him either way. The constant work SM was putting him under was ridiculous, what with two comebacks in the span of two months, not even including the tour that was going to be starting soon, you had wanted to do something that might make him a little less miserable. You had already planned the day, all activities that the two of you could do in the comfort of your apartment, and had even plans on making him dinner, something that Lucas loved, but the two of you never really had time to enjoy.

It took about another ten minutes for the six people in front of you to get their orders, and by the time you reached the opening in the side of the truck. you were bouncing on the balls of your heels. Benji, a chubby man with a handlebar mustache, grinned down at you as you beamed up at him.

“What can I get for ya?” He asked, jolly despite the many customers he had been through the passed hour alone.

You curled your fingers over the edge of the window and tried to peep inside of the truck. The smells were so glorious, like Christmas itself in a scent, and made your heart thump against your chest with excitement. “Two Deluxe Hot Chocs with extra marshmallows and whipped cream, please.”

Benji nodded, repeating your order to the lady behind him. He turned back to you. “Anything else? Maybe some of our special peppermint cookies? They’re limited stock.”

Benji reminded you distinctly of Santa Claus, so saying no felt like a crime. Plus, you knew that Lucas wouldn’t deny any sort of sweet. If he were there he would’ve instantly said yes. You nodded and held up two fingers. “Two then, since you bargained so well.”

He chuckled and rang up our order. “Twelve ninety-five.”

You pop your case off and hand him over a bill. “Wow, no wonder you guys are so popular. Your hot cocoa is the best and your prices are good. It makes the hour long wait worth it.”

He handed you your change and you stuffed it into the pocket of your sweats without looking, your hand immediately pulling you to your tiptoes to see the magic happening inside of the truck. A warmth hit your face and you saw the cutest bag decorated with candy canes holding two very delicious looking cookies being handed to Benji.

Benji leaned out of your way to let you peep the process behind him as he tied the bag with a red and white striped string. “Business has been booming ever since last year. Apparently, a kpop idol said that our hot chocolate was the best in the country. We were ecstatic, but all the business is hard to keep up with. That’s why we make our appearances random because when we show up we have to be ready for the hoards of people. We keep a little poster of the guy now on the back of our van. It’s all thanks to him that we have all of this.”

You tilted your head and wondered who had done all of this. You didn’t really have much time to think, as the second your mind started to wonder, Benji was handing you two very large steaming cups. There was a mountain of whipped cream covered with marshmallows peeking over the top, and the smell got stronger the closer they came to your face. Your mouth was watering from the smell alone.

“Is your journey from here long? Do you need lids?”

Your apartment complex was fifteen minute walk, ten in a taxi, but you knew you weren’t in the mood to make the walk. “Lids, please.”

Benji pushed the mountain down softly with a black cover and handed over the two cups along with your cute bag of cookies. “Have a wonderful day!”

You grabbed them and your frozen fingers were instantly thawed out by the warmth seeping through the cup, and you knew that Lucas was going to be so so happy when he finally got a hold of it himself. Your fingers struggled to hold onto the two cups as well as the tiny bag, but you managed not to drop anything as you hailed a taxi. Out of curiosity you found yourself looking to the back of the truck, wondering if there really was a picture of the idol who gave Benji’s hot cocoa a boost. You were absolutely surprised to see a still image of Lucas from behind the scenes of his Yestoday music video, carrying a cup just like the one you were holding, grinning into it like he was looking at the love of his life. You were even more surprised that SM left the logo unedited and allowed it to be part of the video. However, you were happy that it was. Not only was a small business getting promoted, but so was you’re boyfriend.

The ride back to your apartment was more tolerable, as your hands were now warm and your excitement had sky rocketed. You darted up the stairs to your door the instant you were in the building, and were out of breath by the time you managed to punch in the code.

As soon as your shoes were off and the door was shut safely behind you, a voice met your ears. “There you are! Where did you go off to? I got us a Disney plus membership, baby! It’s all everybody has been talking about!”

Lucas was bouncing on the couch in his pajamas, but his hair was damp like he just showered. He was scrolling through the many Disney movies and turned with a slight frown when you didn’t reply. When he finally saw you, cheeks and nose tinted pink and a grin enveloping your face he frowned even more in confusion. Then his eyes landed on your hands, where you were clutching the cups tightly to keep them warm. His face lit up and he yelled, jumping over the back of the couch to reach you quicker. He ran to you and immediately grabbed your face setting a large, yet gentle, smooch on your lips.

“Oh, my God! Baby, you did not!” He whisper yelled, looking starstruck as he reached out gingerly to grab one. “Is this why you were up so early? I thought you were probably getting breakfast, but then you took so long, but I didn’t want to bother you...”

He trailed off as you handed him his cup. It was a deluxe, but his large hands swallowed it like it was a small, and despite this he was so gentle, like he was holding a baby. You set your own cup on the counter along with the cookies and began to shed his jacket and your scarf. You chuckled when you saw him slowly peel off the lid. His eyes got glossy as soon as the whipped cream and marshmallows appeared.

He glanced up at you. “Did you try it yet?”

You shook your head and smile at him fondly. “I was waiting until you finally got yours.”

“Then come on!” He urged you to pick up your cup and take the lid off. He looked so happy you immediately did as he said. “We can try it together. It’s the best stuff on earth, I’ll promise you’ll love it.”

Once the two of you were toe to toe he placed the edge of the cups to his lips, waiting for you to follow suit, big puppy like eyes peering at you impatiently. When the cup was placed on your lips he nodded. You took a decent gulp, your mouth instantly filling with the best hot cocoa you’ve ever tried in your entire life. The whipped cream was slightly melted and made your taste buds dance, and when the warmness traveled down your throat and to the pit of your belly a marshmallow was left in your mouth, so you began to chew it happily.

Lucas basically yelled after he took his first sip, eyes wide and mouth satisfied. He began to do a cute little dance around you. “You are the best person in the world, and I love you so much.”

You squinted at him playfully, watching as he took another gulp without glancing at you. “Are you sure you’re talking to me? You seem to be speaking into your cup.”

He laughed, lifting his head to reveal a whipped cream mustache. He walked over and set his arm upon your shoulders, grinning down at you. “I’m definitely talking to you, baby. Seriously, I thought that I was going to be too busy this Winter and wouldn’t get a chance to get Benji’s. Thank you.”

He grinned, eyes crinkled as he looked down at you with his goofy cream mustache, almost happier than he had been in the photo taped to the back of Benji’s truck. You couldn’t help the urge to kiss him, so you leaned up and planted a large one right on his lips, cleaning the cream from his upper lip. He pressed his lips into yours and squeezed your shoulders tight.

“I love you too, goofball. I’m glad you’re happy because I nearly lost my fingers in the cold.” You chuckled, leaning into him so you could feel his warmth better. You reached a hand up to intertwine your fingers with his. “It’s a good thing I love you more than these things.”

He pressed a kiss onto your head. “Well, you don’t really need your fingers. I’d still love you, fingerless stub and all.”

You couldn’t hold back the snort that escaped at the image of it all, but your heart jumped too. Lucas really did love you. You turned to place another kiss on his jaw, the thoughts making your stomach go crazy with butterflies. “Thank you, I’d love you without fingers too.”

Lucas leaned his head on top of yours as he took another sip of hot cocoa. When he swallowed a little noise of satisfaction left his nose. He pointed your intertwined hands to the counter. “What are those?”

“Benji talked me into buying them. They’re peppermint cookies.” You said, whining when Lucas left you to go to the counter and inspect said cookies. “They are limited stock so I thought we’d try them out.”

Lucas licked his lips and settled into a stool by the counter, which overlooked the kitchen. He tugged at the red and white striped string and glanced at you with an excited glint in his eyes. “I think I will love anything that man makes. He is my hero, so how can I not try these cookies?.”

He took a perfectly baked cookie from the bag, which had pieces of candy cane peeking from the top, and smiled. Then he opened his mouth wide and nearly inhaled the entire cookie in one bite. As soon as he started chewing his eyes widened and loud noises began to escape his nose. He opened his mouth, and you got an unwanted view of the chewed up bits of cookie. “Woowwww, it’s so delicious! Mmmmmm, I love it!”

Your own grin returned as you watched him eat, unable to control the giggles that followed. Lucas was just too dramatic. “It’s so funny, do you know you’re his mascot? When you made that comment in the behind the scenes of the Yestoday video, they didn’t cut his brand out. He gained a lot of love after that. He has a picture of you on the back of his truck!”

Lucas’s eyes were so wide they took up most of his face. “Wow, really? Mark told me they went back and edited it out when they realized their mistake, but I didn’t know that people saw it in time. I’m so happy for him.”

He took the rest of the cookie in his mouth and followed it with a sip of hot cocoa. He tilted his head and scrunched his eyes, just like he always did when he loved the taste of something so much. Your cheeks began to hurt at this point from smiling so big at your adorable boyfriend. You reached over and brushed a strand of hair from his eyes as he took another sip of chocolate, his eyes crossing as he tried to take in one of the larger marshmallows in the cup. When he succeeded he pushed it onto his front teeth and grinned at you before letting out a huge laugh, the marshmallow nearly flying from his mouth.

“You’re too silly.” You giggled. “Anyways, what is it you said about Disney plus? I’ve been dying to watch 101 Dalmatians.”

Lucas’s eyebrows jumped and he nearly swallowed the marshmallow whole. He tugged at your pants and pointed to the couch while attempting to chew the marshmallow quickly. “I got us a thingy! We can watch them now!”

You gasped, grabbing your own hot cocoa and then charging to the couch. “Then what are you waiting for? Dim the lights we got some movies to watch!”

Lucas grabbed the last cookie and sped around in his socks, running from the lick to flick it off, and then to the curtains to make the room darker, before darting to the couch to you. He settled into the corner and spread his legs so that you could settle between them before throwing your a blanket over the both of you. You grabbed the remote and picked the movie the both of you loved a lot, settling into his chest. Lucas offered you a bite of the cookie and you took it, sinking your teeth into it.

“I love you,” He said again, wrapping his free arm around you. “Thank you again, darling.”

You pouted, your heart beating quickly, your mouth forgetting the delicious cookie in your mouth, and craving something sweeter. You swallowed the cookie bits before turning your head, your lips searching his. He looked from the TV and smiled softly before kissing your awaiting lips. You offered the cookie to him and he took it excitedly.

“You’re welcome, baby. I love you too.”

Then you laid your head on his chest and look to the TV, all of your previous plans forgotten. Just being in Lucas’s arms was so much better than anything you could plan.

Lili and Beckett Reese, particularly in a crossover au with my friends.

Orphaned at age 18, Lili gets into some Shady Shit to support herself and her 13 year old brother. Years later, Beck isn’t so naive. He knows what’s going on, and he doesn’t like it.

So, when Lili gets him a new iPhone, which he KNOWS she can’t afford, even with her multiple retail jobs (putting all her college savings into supporting them and saving for Beckett’s education left her options fairly limited), he gives her a chance to come clean.

Alchemy and rumor. No, theyre not together- everyone in this story (called the Chaos Squad or just The Bastards) is aro. Found family supremacy.

When they were really little, Rumor was one of the few people Alchemy could talk to. She’s selectively mute, but he’s always been a safe space.

Years later, age 17, due to circumstances i dont feel like explaining, the world is almost fucking empty. Basically, there’s maybe a couple thousand people left (the others aren’t dead, just in space. There were more on earth but uhhh).

It’s either luck or fate that they find each other again.

Rumor is ecstatic. He can admit that he’s been worried- al is strong, but he’s always been a little protective. Of everyone, not just her.

He runs to her, and al flinches. He realizes that it’s been over 10 years- she probably doesn’t even remember him.

(She does. But the years have only made her sm worse, and she can’t fucking speak to anyone anymore. She wants to talk to him, but... the world has changed. She’s changed. He probably has, too.)
