like literally that m*pping project website is like ‘the listed universities have exchange programs with israeli universities!!1!’ someone please explain to me how ‘enabling people to experience for themselves what things are like’ constitutes ‘support for israel's violent settler colonialism’ per se (except, you know, actually don’t, because it doesn’t).

HEY MIO!!! can you do Adam, vox, lucifer, and husk headcanons with a genderfluid reader?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐯𝐨𝐱, 𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐦, 𝐡𝐮𝐬𝐤, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐬 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐢𝐝 ೄྀ࿐ ˊˎ-
a/n: omg i read lucifer as “alastor” and wrote a ton of hcs for alastor only to realize you didn’t even request him BAHAHAH
warnings: gender-fluid!reader
proofread: no
tags: genderfluid, hazbin hotel, alastor, husk, vox, fanfic, x reader, adam
Tumblr media
𝐯𝐨𝐱
despite the fact that this might be a surprise, he is extremely helpful and respectful during whatever transition period you’re going through for you coming-out
vox is well-versed in all sorts of lgbtq+ labels, due to him being online so much, and having made business deals with a variety of folks
without hesitation, vox will ask what you need, whatever it is, he’s got it covered. haircut? on it. binder? he’ll have voxtech start making binders just for you. new wardrobe? that’s why he has velvette
he doesn’t go out much, due to his fame, but he’ll go out with you and watch you try on outfits for your new wardrobe, all for you…
Tumblr media
𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐦
i think this goes without saying that adam is gonna be a bit confused at first, he was the first man ever, he’s old school, he doesn’t know shit
he may unintentionally crack a disrespectful joke here and there, that’s just adam for you, no offense intended
but after awhile, he does try, he’ll do his research, ask around heaven, he’ll probably ask molly, since angel’s gay
at the end of the day, if you want adam to do something specific, you’ll have to tell him, adam can catch on quickly, but not with this stuff
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝐡𝐮𝐬𝐤
although husk isn’t the most modern man alive, he is apart of the community, so he knows a thing or two
he’ll straight-up ask you what you want him to do, just so there’s almost no room for mistakes, he understands this is hard for you and doesn’t want to make you uncomfortable
remains very accepting and respectful at all times, and is probably the best out of the four at remembering your preferred pronouns/gendered terms
Tumblr media
𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐫
the most uninformed out of the four, as we can see in episode five with his first reaction to finding out charlie was queer, i mean, don't get me wrong, he's supportive, but he doesn't quite get it - like adam, their both quite old school
by far does the most research, he's the most uninformed, and he definitely cares the most about the situation, so he's very hard on himself to make this perfect
also side note, he probably throws you a 'coming out' party XD

& this is why i think it's such a red flag when people talk about 'the media' as some unified entity feeding you one unified narrative because you can already see how quickly that invites you to consider who Controls that unified narrative but it also just makes you stupid and unable to think critically in the exact other side of the coin to people who think The News Would Never Lie To Us. like there's no shortcut for reading things critically and thinking about who wrote it and paid for it and what they might 1. genuinely believe and 2. want to convince you of and why, let alone using your language skills to pick out persuasive languages or fallacies. this is why we were taught in school to be able to identify when a piece of writing is trying to convince you of something or take a specific side of an argument like if you're able to read critically you can still discern genuine information even out out of extremely biased articles (even just by using them to discern what's NOT true) but if you just plug your ears and scream THE MEDIA IS LYING TO US that ultimately leaves you no less uninformed than the person who blindly absorbs whatever fox news tells them, let ALONE if you then turn to TIKTOK for your information??

Do you have any advice for talking to people who aren't well-informed about what is going on in Gaza? One of my really close friends for over 10 years now has really conservative parents and she just :// she just kind of believes a lot of the conservative stuff they say and she hears others around her say. After the attacks of Oct. 7th, I think I remember her saying that the Bible says we should always stand with Israel which is just so :((
I want to inform her but I'm unsure of how to, and if it would even work. I'm scared of her response because I really love her and we've been so close for so long but I don't feel comfortable with her being so uninformed and I'm scared of her response. Do you have any advice and even pray for me to be given wisdom on how to handle this with care and love? Thank you ^^
Hey there! Thank you for your courage in even wanting to start a hard conversation with a friend about this vital topic. I'm going to offer some ideas, but ultimately you know this friend better than I could, so if something I say doesn't seem like it'll work with your situation, adapt or discard it.
I also invite others to add on ideas or encouragement. If you know of resources that are helpful for talking about Palestine with folks who are steeped in pro-Israel propaganda, please share!
___
Before delving into this topic with her, start by asking yourself what you're hoping she'll unlearn and relearn. What's a reasonable goal to move her towards?
Chances are, she's not going to move from unquestioning support of Israel to "Decolonize Palestine" in a day!
Moving her towards a simple agreement that at least some of the things Israel does cannot be supported is a good first step, and even that may take time and patience.
Prepare yourself to be happy about even the smallest baby steps in opening her perspective. "Ceasefire now!" may be the bare minimum in what is ultimately needed for true justice for Palestine, but it is an important step. If you can make progress towards her agreeing with a simple ceasefire, that's worth celebrating.
You'll also want to think in advance about where you're hoping her changed perspective will take her. Do you see her on the front lines of protests and marches? Or will you be satisfied if she makes some changes in where she spends her money (boycotting Starbucks, McDonalds, etc.), doesn't shut down pro-Palestine comments, etc.?
Again, being realistic and celebrating even small changes is helpful to keep from frustrating yourself or her!
So...how do you start a conversation that leads to that?
Wait for a time when you both are fairly relaxed, and have enough time that conversation won't be rushed.
Prepare yourself to hear some resistance and possibly even some really crappy things regurgitated when you first broach the subject. Do your best to remain calm, and not to jump straight into correcting every little thing she says — I know how hard that can be, but if you have hope that she'll be open to changing perspective, you want to establish yourself as a space where she feels safe enough to unpack the bullshit without being shut down at every turn.
For instance, in the scenario where she said "the Bible says we should always stand with Israel," responding immediately with "no it doesn't!!" would shut down conversation.
Instead, you might start with open-ended questions the two of you can explore together: "I wonder what the Bible means when it talks about Israel. Would the biblical authors recognize today's Israel as being the Israel they were talking about? / Is the Israel of today the same as the Israel of the Bible?" "What does it mean to you to 'stand with Israel'?" "Does that have to require sending them extreme military weapons?"
As you ask questions together, focus on finding common ground with her:
Does your friend agree that innocent people should be kept as safe as possible in military conflicts?
Does she agree that people of different faiths and cultures should be able to coexist?
I appreciate this post's advice on utilizing instead of challenging someone's deeply held values to guide them out from their rightwing radicalized views.
If your friend seems unwilling to talk about this...
It's okay to table the conversation if things start to get heated or she's shutting down. Let he know this topic is deeply meaningful to you and that's why you want to talk about it with her, as a friend who means a lot to you as well.
If there have been times in the past where she's realized what her family says about a topic has been anywhere from somewhat misinformed to utter bullshit, you might be able to remind her of that past time.
Do your best to make it clear that you are not judging her for what she currently believes — we can't help what we're raised in! You're just hopeful that, like in those past situations with other topics, the two of you can talk things out.
Did realizing that she didn't have all the information on a topic help in the past? Maybe remind her of that too, and invite her to team up together in finding the missing information on this topic as well — which leads me to...
Come with resources.
For exploring those open-ending questions I brought up before, it'll help for you to be pretty well informed in advance both about current events and recent history, and about how Christian theology's been used to advance Israel's agenda.
...Or, if you think your friend would prefer to learn along the way with you, it'll be good for you to at least know of resources the two of you can look at together!
You don't have to have all the answers; you can tell her, "I don't know enough either yet. I'd love to learn together with you." Framing it as something mutual, rather than you lecturing her or assigning her homework or judging her current ignorance, might cultivate that space for mutual growth that will benefit you both!
So here are some resources I recommend:
For questions about theology, including disconnecting biblical Israel from modern Israel, I highly recommend Decolonizing Palestine: The Land, the People, the Bible (2023) by Christian Palestinian theologian Mitri Raheb. If you don't have time for a whole book, I summarized the thing in an article that takes about 30 minutes to read. .
Another, less academic / more storytelling-formatted book that pulls in perspectives from Jews and Muslims, Palestinians and non-Palestinians, queer folk and more, that I find super valuable in summing up a lot of the fraught history and unpacking propaganda around Israel that so many of us have been taught to take as given, is A Land with a People: Palestinians and Jews Confront Zionism. .
Then there's keeping up with news using media outlets that don't sugarcoat Israel's violence. My personal favorite to listen to daily is Democracy Now!, which you can read/watch online or listen to as a podcast. A whole hour of news every day may be more than your friend can keep up with, however, so... .
...a briefer news option is @ So.informed on Instagram. Their posts sum up the big sweeping picture of what's going on, and help put it in context with accessible language. If your friend has Instagram, this could be a great source for her to start getting another perspective on what's going on. .
Similarly, @ letstalkpalestine is another Instagram account that explores history and current events in a succinct, accessible way.
One last thought: be ready to offer comfort.
It's hard to realize you've been misinformed about something important — especially when it's people close to you who've taught you what you thought was right. It takes a ton of courage and humility to realize where you need to change.
Your friend might become emotional about all this; that might look like grief, or rage, or even dissociating, feeling numb. Be ready to offer comfort, to remind her that what she thought was not her fault — that we're all steeped in things we have to work to unlearn, and you're proud of her for being open to learning.
And again I'll mention that if things start getting intense, it's okay to take a break! You don't want either of you burning out halfway through. You can take this process one small step per day, or even per week.
This struggle for liberation and justice is a long one — it's been decades unfolding, and it'll take a long while more. It's urgent, yes, but at the same time, rushing your friend won't aid the effort. Patience is much more likely to bear fruit that lasts.
___
I hope this helps somewhat! I'll be holding you and your friend in my prayers.
May the Spirit of Justice guide your words and actions; may She guard you from frustration; may she open your friend to hearing you out and entering into conversation with you. <3

For someone who had, in a span of one hour, managed to do their first magical fire spell and acquire their first serious magical injury, Violet thought little Hümeyra was doing extremely well. They had even stopped sniffling, although that might be purely because the Magical Accident and Emergency waiting room was filled with so many distractions that they had forgotten about their own painful hand. Violet made a mental note to warn Hümeyra’s parents they’d probably have a lot of questions later. On how exactly one might give themselves fox ears, for instance, as the annoyed looking teenager across the room seemed to have done. Or what might cause someone’s fingers to drip drops of liquid light all over the floor, like the apologetic elderly man seated in the corner. But right now, as long as these questions would not be posed to her, she was content to let Hümeyra sneakily gawk at everything while clinging to her arm with their non-injured hand. It wasn’t too bad a burn, luckily. Violet had taken the time to make sure of that.
“Just take a seat, a specialist will be with you as soon as possible.”
“No hurry, I’m used to it.”
Violet looked up mostly because of the voice of the nurse – she was rather hoping Hümeyra could be seen to soon – but the young woman that followed the nurse in was a startling enough appearance for her to temporarily join Hümeyra in their staring. She made a rather striking appearance, but whatever had happened to her had left her with a nasty gash on the left side of her head. Instead of bleeding, however, it was streaking translucent blue down her temple, mostly sticking to her skin, but seeming to partially evaporate into pale mist at the edges. It didn’t look good. It certainly didn’t look like something anyone should be “used to”.
The woman made her way over on heavy, muddy combat boots, and let herself fall into a vacant chair. She had kept one chair empty between her and Hümeyra, but that didn’t stop them from peeking at her. It didn’t stop Violet either, but she hoped she was at least doing it more subtly than her pupil. Instead of doing the customary blank stare into empty space everyone else in the waiting room seemed to be employing, the woman turned a pair of lively, light brown eyes in their direction and gave Hümeyra a lopsided grin.
“Hi there,” she nodded, draped in the narrow chair with far too much ease. “What are you in for?”
“I set myself on fire,” Hümeyra explained helpfully, showing off the nearly perfectly round burn mark on her palm.
The woman whistled, making her eyes comically large. “You did a thorough job of that. Do you think they’ll have to take it off?”
Violet turned around in startled indignation, but before she could even open her mouth Hümeyra let out a derisive scoff:
“Of course they’re not taking my hand off.”
“No?” the woman said and for a moment that crooked grin flashed back onto her face as her eyes darted up to Violet’s for a second.
“No,” Hümeyra said decidedly. “Violet said it was going to be fine. And she knows everything.”
The brown eyes twinkled a little brighter and Violet hastily focussed all her attention on Hümeyra again. “Does she really, how come?”
Violet couldn’t quite see Hümeyra’s face, but she was well aware what sort of expression seven-year-olds treat people to when they feel they are being particularly uninformed. “She’s a teacher.”
“Really.” The woman raises her hands in complete acquiescence. “Well, then it’s her job to know, isn’t it.”
“Exactly,” Hümeyra nodded, satisfied in their victory. “And besides, your face looks much worse than my hand and you don’t seem worried they’re going to cut it off.”
“Honestly, Hümeyra!” Violet exclaimed, but the woman was snickering into the collar of her leather jacket, not in the least disturbed.
“No need, Ms Violet, no need. Your student displays astute observational and reasoning skills. You should be very proud.”

i am so extremely confused on how you can acknowledge belly dancing not needing to be sexual yet. still insist that nintendo is sexualizing young gerudo with the attire. the makeup, heels and how impractical it is to wear the shit they wear in the desert i understand. im not defending those design mistakes. but??? jfc.
oh. so, assuming you are the same anon as before, you WERE asking in bad faith then, or are intentionally missunderstanding what im saying, got it, and now you are trying to twist my words around to fit your little narrative about me being the problem and not mega corporation uwu nintendo with a history of racism (to which this issue is extremely attached to)
so, since you apparently didnt understand what i said, and didnt watch the video i attached either, bc that goes into detail of everything as well, im gonna spell it out once more, and i will even EMPHASIZE words like THIS, so its easier to understand, just for you <3
i did NOT say that the 'belly dance' outfit doesnt NEED to be sexual, i SAID it is/was not sexual IN ITS ORIGIN, BUT was TURNED INTO what boils down to nothing else but a sexy strippers outfit by western people and has been used as NOTHING BUT sexual for decades in the vast majority of media of all kind-
which MEANS, that although in ORIGIN it might not have been sexual, the unfortunate PROBLEM is that through its extreme popularization as such you now have to assume IT IS sexual, bc that is pretty much ALWAYS the intent, people dont even know it as anything but a sexual thing
and before you can even say the "well maybe they didnt intent it a such" blah blah, this is NOT SOLELY about the outfit itself being the only problem here, its the whole package, even if they DID have good intentions or did it subconsciously (which, mind you, should also tell you just how much this kind of picture of middle eastern people has been spread, how common it is to see them like this that its what most people actually think they are like) it nevertheless sends a certain message, and again, ITS THE WHOLE FUCKING PACKAGE, everything, from outfit, to design elements, to dialog, to lore, to even camera angles, you cannot view it as a seperate thing bc it is, inherently, not able to be seperated from everything, its as if you took an incredibly racist caricature, zoomed in and said "LOOK they used a realistic kind of skin tone, its totally not racist!!"
you also called these design decisions "mistakes", but they are not, in fact mistakes, a mistake is when you notice after posting a drawing that you forgot to color in a strand of hair, however, ALL of these design and writing decisions are deliberate, they had to sit down, in a giant team of people, to come up with it, then proceed to design and write it, approve it, make it, and ship it, and saw no problem with it, which is a problem
now, im not saying nintendo personally is telling you "its ok to fuck kids", but things have meanings, and if you are making something, ESPECIALLY using something that isnt of your own culture, you should think about things, and what meanings a thing can have attached to, they are a giant corporation, not a single, very uninformed at best- or very racist at worst, human being, they have the means to do research, but they did not do it or think its fine, maybe even good, which deserves to be called out
i am a big, and longtime, zelda fan, but beign a fan of something doesnt mean you cannot criticise it, or aknowledge that its in many ways flawed, part of being a fan is being able to recognize things that are bad and demand better
if you send me another ask spouting bullshit or purposefully missunderstanding what im saying im gonna punt you into the filthy barrel of blocked porn bots, bc i dont have anon messages enabled to receive shit like this but to allow people who might be too shy to send normal asks to talk to me.
jfc.

I agree that nobody should be basing ideas around safe(r) kink from fantasy posts on tumblr, but I've come across plenty of educational posts on here that were genuinely helpful and enlightening. I don't think it's fair to suggest that they're all lying.
one of the most popular posts i ever used to see on here before i blocked OP was a guide for how to safely choke someone. not how to choke someone more safely, safer. how to do it SAFELY. this post, which continues to be extremely popular and has no doubt inspired a great deal of play, advises CUTTING OFF BLOOD TO THE BRAIN as a safe way to do choking!!!
obviously there are plenty of posts that are not out here insisting that actually there are 0 risks to choking your partner until they pass out, but there are a great number of posts that poke at that sort of thing. a huge number of posts that say "doms, we subs don't know how to communicate." a huge number of posts that posit and insist that there are actual 0 risks with biting your partner anywhere.
and — maybe this is worse! — i don't think the people making these posts are lying! i think they are uninformed and sometimes reacting with anger and defensiveness because someone somewhere told them that "hey this thing you like might not be safe" or even just "you have to be capable of communication and honesty to do kink safely." nobody's writing a post and twirling their mustache about how they're gonna ruin somebody's life by getting them to choke their partner, but a lot of people are spreading irresponsible shit anyway and i think it's healthy to approach every tumblr kink post with the mindset of "there is at least a 50% chance that this information is wrong"

Alcohol anon: Whoa, lots of less-than-charitable assumptions made about me in the notes! I don't appreciate that. "Why did you mention addiction when we were discussing fandom?" because I've witnessed this convo on this blog before and I know "conservative about alcohol" has been used to mean anywhere from "believes addicts are The Devil" to "has unrealistic ideas about alcohol in fanfiction" to "reblogged a post once criticizing mommy wine culture." I actually agree that a lot of people are sort of babies about alcohol in fanfiction, and I believe the idea that authors have a responsibility to caution against alcohol consumption is just another manifestation of anti ideology. To address the assumptions: No, I wasn't raised conservative, or in the Bible Belt. I was raised very progressive. No, my first thought about alcohol isn't "ZOMG BUT ALCOHOLISM." My intent was not to moralize about alcohol or addiction, and I attempted to be clear that was the case. I am aware people DO use the concept of health to moralize about alcohol - my point is, it should in fact be possible to say "alcohol has health detriments" and for it to NOT secretly be a moral statement about addicts, BECAUSE health doesn't determine morals. I am also aware that most people know alcohol has health detriments - but some people genuinely don't realise that alcohol habits considered completely safe actually might not be. And, in part because of the moralization about addiction, some people have this idea that if they're not an addict (or what their idea of "an addict" is), their alcohol habits must be completely safe. I didn't know what the actual definition of a "binge" was before recently! One person in the notes accused me of condescension - I'm sorry if I came across that way! I don't assume EVERYONE who chooses to drink, even to an extreme extent does so uninformed. I also don't make it my mission to constantly "uhm, actually" people about alcohol. It rarely crosses my mind, and I would never ride a horse so high I'd inform an acquaintance or friend "that's actually considered a binge and it's bad for you :)" when they mention their alcohol habits. I was just reminded of the discourse of yesteryear, and curious for clarification if "weird about alcohol" just referred to fanfiction here. Because I vividly remember "one drink a day won't hurt you" and "but uh, it can?" being responded to with "what are you, a prude?"
--
Nonnie, I'm sorry, but nobody really cares about the actual medical advice in the US, which right now is something like no more than one glass of wine a few days a week for women and one a day for men. Yes, it's a lot lower than things considered culturally normal many places. But you're not going to get people to care about this.
In the context of fic, what I care about is that it's generally also OOC for these characters to care.

Oof, the first half of the episode is a little rough ngl. I like the second half with Aabria a lot more. The first group does get better as the episodes go on if that helps at all.
Also, to add a bit more context to Kollok: the creators - Hyper RPG - are filmmaking nerds and are mostly known on Twitch for their various virtual productions.
So Kollok has a lot of those post production visual effects and sound effects, which is them using their strengths to create a show, similar to CR and voice acting and D20 and improv comedy.
Obviously that's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea and it can get a little too much I admit, but it's not that bad of a show.
Hi anon,
I am...not sure if you read this in the necessary context (this provides some, and this some more, and if I'm being totally honest based on this I don't feel like you read my entire weird rant, which to be fair, it is long and weird but covers quite a lot of issues I have) but I am coming in with the premise of "I think heavy post production of actual play is a poor choice." It don't care that it's their strength; I think that if that's your strength you would do better to apply it to scripted works or to improvised non-actual play shows.
I will freely admit that I went in expecting it not to be my cup of tea for that reason, and with an added grudge of "being hyped up and cited as brilliant by Polygon's AP/TTRPG team, with whom I almost always disagree," but did genuinely want to give it a shot in as good faith as I could muster, instead of solely talking shit about. I hoped the acting, premise, and GM-ing might shine through even though the effects were unlikely to win me over and indeed were likely to annoy me.
That was not the case. I found the GM-ing (Driving?) style profoundly grating and pretentious (and I have a very high tolerance for pretension), the premise nothing to write home about, and honestly I don't know jack about sound mixing but I do know I have perfectly good hearing and had to crank my laptop speakers up to higher than I have to for CR or D20 for the prologue to the prologue only to subsequently hear some of the most irritating static sounds at top volume for the prologue, so I'm not even impressed by the production.
And to be clear: that's all fine. I think people are drawn to different aspects in actual play, and there's room for all sorts of shows. I might even finish this episode simply because if I were recommending something to someone else, and they quit an hour into a 3.5 hour episode, I'd feel a little miffed. But I really don't expect it to ever be my thing, and I watched it mostly because it felt uninformed to be criticizing heavy production in actual play without watching a notably deliberately heavily produced actual play show.
I do want to wrap up, and this isn't specifically directed at you but: when it comes to my opinions on a work, I'm not going to say I'm never going to be swayed by an anon ask because who knows, it could happen, but it's very unlikely. If I dislike something, I don't really care if other people like it - I'd never send anons or get on their posts or maintag something like the post I just made (and which I made nonrebloggable specifically to prevent it from spreading into fan spaces) but I hope that people who like something can show me the same respect and permit my dislike. If you're a fan I will not be offended nor resentful if you unfollow or block me or whatever you need to do, but I can pretty confidently say that new cast members or improved acting will not change the fact that this is extremely not for me.

U need to stop talking about US politics. Ur so unintelligent and ignorant about it, it’s crazy. Ur spreading misinformation and it’s gonna get us in danger. The wrong person is gonna see this and vote for him. Stop. Ur not special just cause people kiss ur ass. U don’t get to do shit like this. Stop.
Vote for who? Biden?
GOOD.
Yeah he’s a piece of shit and doesn’t care about Palestine but you know who actively supports Israel and is trying to cement himself as the MOST pro-Israel candidate because it appeals to his evangelical voter base?
Ding ding ding it’s ya boy, Donny T.
You know what’s gonna get you in danger? Voting for someone whose sole agenda is to get back into the Whitehouse so they can seize control and NEVER LEAVE AGAIN.
It is beyond me that y’all could support someone who literally supported and invited domestic terrorism and almost started a full blown civil war. It is beyond me that he could split your country in two, encourage his followers to start an insurrection, to storm the capitol building and demand the execution of world leaders and American citizens— And you still call him a PATRIOT.
The rest of the world are HORRIFIED. And look, I know American media and education doesn’t expose you to the history and context behind fascism and dictatorships. The shit y’all get on TV is often extremely biased one way or another, because having an agenda sells far better than objectivity. I’m not saying the Australian system is much better but seriously, if you aren’t absolutely terrified by the idea of Donald Trump getting back into power, then I don’t know what to tell you. If you’re not convinced at this point— well, friend, I hate to tell you, but there isn’t much I can do for you. I won’t speculate as to the possibilities as to why you might like him but I’ve got a pretty good idea.
That man has proven time and time again that he HATES America. He hates its laws, he doesn’t respect its constitution, and he thinks it would be a better country if he and he alone ran it without any other forms of government. As a dictatorship. And I know the word is massively over use these days because I don’t think a lot of people actually understand what it means to be in a dictatorship.
Call me uninformed all you want. Call me ignorant. I am neither of those things. I don’t need to explain my qualifications to you. The entire point is that you go and do some research that involves more than reading tumblr posts. Even the information on here is biased. I have an inherent bias that I can’t escape either.
All I’m saying is the rest of the world were willing to stick up for you guys once, saying you made a mistake and you didn’t know what you were doing when you elected him- you couldn’t have possibly known that he would do what he did to your country.
But if you put that man back in the White House, and he makes good on his promises and destroys the very foundation on which the United States was built?
I hope to God our countries aren’t stupid enough to come to your rescue.

To continue my comments from my tags on the last post....
As I said, there's a reason animal husbandry isn't a one size fits all thing. There are some basics that apply across the board, yes. The five freedoms covers those basics. But just because you know one species well, or know some general basics for a handful of different ones, doesn't mean that it applies to another completely different species.
Hell, even if you generally know the species, sometimes there's situations that you're just not qualified to comment on. These can be easy to spot in some cases, where it might be a clear "you need to ask an actual vet you're paying to look at the animal in person". But sometimes you may not even know a warning sign to say "hey actually this could be something more serious, please check these other things". I saw that kind of situation happen a LOT on my old hedgehog forum - people who were new and extremely excited would read every past forum thread for hours, then dive in to give advice. We had to make rules prohibiting people from answering questions on breeding or health bc often questions in those areas needed a more experienced eye to explore all the nuances of the situation. Regurgitating info from a post from 3 years ago isn't necessarily going to be appropriate.
I love animal tumblr because I really enjoy the ability to follow people from many different animal circles. I have learned a lot on here over the years. But one thing I've always been anxious not to do, and one thing that never fails to cause drama when it happens, is stepping out of your lane with animal stuff.
There are lots of nuances to animal care. If you don't know a species well, you likely are going to miss important things, mislead people on expectations, or put your foot in your mouth. Sometimes it might be a minor thing, sometimes it just contributes to annoying misconceptions outside people already have. But sometimes it causes a much bigger problem, which can have a very serious fallout when we're dealing with care of living creatures. Sometimes you just need to keep your uninformed opinion or rant to yourself. Sometimes you just need to answer the ask with "I'm sorry, I don't know."

I’m willing to admit that Song of the South isn’t exactly ideal in it’s depiction of of black people in the post-Civil War era. It’s a very Disney-fied version of an old-time Southern plantation. That much is obvious. That said, I’m certain that no one involved in the film intended it to be racist. It doesn’t depict Remus or any of the other black characters in a negative light. In fact, Remus is probably the smartest, wisest character in the whole cast. By contrast, the white characters generally tend to be very dumb and/or annoying, and in some cases bordering on disturbing.
I’m gonna be honest- I don’t actually enjoy the live-action parts very much. The plot relies way too heavily on important things being unsaid, and as I said, I find many of the characters off-putting in one way or another, especially the kids. In contrast, I find Remus and Tempy to be very likeable and charming.
It’s the animated segments that I really love. The animal characters are delightful, especially the villainous Br’er Fox, and the animation is among the best the Disney studio put out in the 1940s. The setting and characters have almost endless potential, as evidenced by how many stories Joel Chandler Harris collected, and especially the Disney comics, which have been going on in some form or another for decades now.
I think it’s very likely that if Disney had only adapted the stories into animated form, and didn’t bother with the live-action parts at all, the characters wouldn’t be half as controversial as they are now.
So it really does pain me to see Splash Mountain being replaced. I totally understand that Disney doesn’t want to appear racist, but I’m pretty sure destroying a beloved theme park ride that millions of people have enjoyed for over three decades isn’t the way to do it.
I adore Splash Mountain. I’ve been a fan of it long before I even heard of Song of the South. It’s fantastically well-made, from the music, the animatronics, the sets... the whole thing just oozes rustic charm. I don’t fully understand what it is about it, but I find the ride almost magical in a way. (It might have something to do with my Southern roots- my grandfather on my mother’s side grew up in small town in Arkansas during the Great Depression, and loved bluegrass and folk music.) Whatever it is, I actually like it better than Song of the South in many ways. I’m going to miss it dearly. Between this and that awful Mickey ride they’ve shoehorned into Toon Town, I’m not sure I could ever go back to Disneyland without breaking down and crying. I might just have to go to Tokyo Disneyland instead- provided that they don’t replace their version too, which hopefully will never happen.
Is that what you want, Disney? To make people cry because you destroyed cherished childhood memories?
I like The Princess and the Frog quite a bit, but it doesn’t inspire me the same way Br’er Rabbit’s world does. So I’ll admit that I’m a bit biased. I’m sure there are young black people out there who love it a lot, and appreciate that Disney went out of their way to give them a princess of their own.
The problem is, is that giving Splash Mountain a new coat of paint isn’t really going to fix anything. It’s clear to me that all that will happen is that the explicit references to Song of the South will be removed and replaced, and everything else will remain the same. Most likely the old animatronics will be singing songs from The Princess and the Frog, and I really can’t imagine how they’re going to do that without it being extremely awkward, especially considering that most of them are tied to the plot. I’m certain that as soon as it opens Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is going to be known as “the ride that used to be Splash Mountain”. Uninformed people are guaranteed to make snarky comments like “Hey, did you know this ride used to be racist??”. The shadow of Song of the South is going to forever loom over it.
I can’t help but wonder if anybody’s opinion was considered before such a drastic (and likely poor) decision was made. Was there a poll among Disney’s black and mixed-race employees asking what they thought? Or was it just a bunch of white executives who suddenly came up with the idea? Is this all just a huge PR stunt to make the company look good? I’m also suspicious about how it took them so long to decide to do this. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I never heard of any significant objections raised regarding Splash Mountain until a few years ago. You’d think that, back in the 1980s, somebody would have said, “Hey, you might wanna reconsider building this”. Heck, it was even featured in Disneyland Adventures as recently as 2011, with Br’er Rabbit and everything! You can still buy the game on Steam right now!
I guess what I’m saying is that, when it comes to racism in Disney media, it ain’t no Peter Pan.
I just wish Disney would own up to Song of the South and stop pretending it doesn’t exist. They should just rerelease it already, so that people can make up their own minds about whether or not it’s racist. Keeping it hidden away just makes it seem worse than it really is. Putting it on Disney+ with a warning at the beginning would be enough. But if they wanted to go the whole nine yards, they could make a full-length documentary about it, explaining the movie’s history and its context, along with interviews with African-American celebrities and historians. Whoopi Goldberg could narrate, since she’s already well-known for introducing cartoons with problematic depictions of non-white cultures, some much more blatantly racist than Song of the South ever was. I even came up with a title they can use: A Man Named Remus.
I suppose I’m being a bit apologist about this whole thing. I’m a white guy after all, so you should definitely take my opinion with a grain of salt. I just don’t want something I love to disappear forever, that’s all...

~*~
“You are at once both the quiet and the confusion of my heart; imagine my heartbeat when you are in this state.” - Franz Kafka, Letters to Felice
This whole situation was utterly undignified. Letant was a Romulan Senator! As a prisoner of war - one of importance - he should be housed as the Vorta were, not in some filthy cell with only other common prisoners as his companions. The rations they were given were infrequent and unpalatable. He wouldn’t feed a set’leth anything even half as disgusting as what he was being forced to stomach in order to remain alive.
Not that the Jem’Hadar cared. They didn’t have to eat. All they needed was their precious drug. He took to pacing his cell as he pondered how to escape, but nearly every option seemed impossible. Letant certainly wasn’t going to allow the Dominion the satisfaction of seeing him give in and die in this place, but neither would he give them the opportunity to dispose of him. No, he intended to survive this hellhole, then give the Vorta running it, Deyos, a thorough thrashing as he deserved. The Dominion would know the true meaning of revenge when he was done with them–
On this particular afternoon of vengeful thoughts, Letant’s musings were interrupted by two guards throwing open the door to his cell and tossing an unconscious Human to the ground before stepping out again. After the lock clicked, the Senator walked over to her prone figure and took stock of her condition. She appeared uninjured...but he couldn’t be sure. Human physiology was a subject upon which he was almost entirely uninformed. Carefully, he turned her onto her back, cradling her neck and head gently in his lap. If she was hurt, he didn’t want to make it worse.
As he laid her head gently back against his thigh, he became aware of a nasty scar on her throat that was already surrounded by severe bruising. Had the guards done that to her? It seemed too recent to have pre-dated her stay here, but it could have happened in battle, he supposed.
Glancing at the empty cot across from his in the cell, the Senator didn’t hesitate to lift her in his arms and carry her to it. She was in for hell in this place, anyway, given her status as a Starfleet officer. The least he could do was make sure she didn’t die...though, he admitted that in her current condition, death might be preferable. Medical assistance was extremely hard to come by in this prison. The most she could hope for was a few seconds with a barely functional dermal regenerator, and whatever the Jem’Hadar had done to her seemed deeper than just a scratch.
Laying her atop the creaky old cot, Letant paused briefly to look at her rank pips. Two gold. She was a Lieutenant, then, if he remembered his Starfleet ranks correctly. Why would they have kept her alive? She couldn’t know anything of consequence. Perhaps it was her posting that they found to be of value, then...
Either way, Letant brushed a lock of hair carefully out of her face and moved to his own cot to keep watch. He was dreadfully bored in this cell. If the girl lived, he might at least have someone to talk to, so he may as well make sure she survived the night.
--
Everything seemed to be floating, but I was quite certain I was nowhere near a boat, or water, for that matter. A heavy, hot throbbing seemed to be coming from my throat, accompanied by an ache on just the wrong side of dull. Blinking my eyes slowly, I became aware of a dingy, stone ceiling above my head. The lighting was low enough to keep me from getting a headache, but that still left me with a lot of questions.
Turning my head slightly to the side, I managed to ignore a protest from the muscles in my neck. On a cot across the small space I was currently in, a Romulan seemingly dozed sitting up with his back to the wall. With a significant wave of confusion and caution coursing through me, I tried to sit up as silently as I could.
A loud, metallic squeak from the dilapidated cot I had been laying on sent me wincing, and when I glanced over at the Romulan again, his piercing blue eyes were fixed on me. Fuck.
“Ah, I was wondering when you would wake. It’s been something like a day since you were deposited by the guards,” he said giving me a smirk as his eyes skimmed over me. The Romulan stood and walked over to where I now sat, taking a seat directly beside me. I tried to be subtle as I leaned away from him, but he must have noticed. He let out a much-too-smooth laugh and raised his hands as if in surrender. “I intend you no harm. I only want to see how your neck is. There’s a poorly-healed scar in the center with heavy bruising. It’s as if someone tried to use a dermal regenerator on you, but either didn’t know how or didn’t care enough to do it properly. All I want is to assess your injury. Will you permit me?”
I hesitated a moment, and he raised a harsh eyebrow. He was pretty, whoever he was, but pretty people could still do dangerous things.
“I promise I won’t touch you. A visual inspection should suffice. I want to make sure your wound isn’t infected.” When I remained silent, he sighed heavily and rolled his eyes. “If, on the other hand, you prefer not to know, then who am I to deny a foolish little Human her death wish?”
He looked me in the eye, and after a quick internal debate, I nodded my head and tilted it back so he could see.
“A wise choice,” he murmured. Keeping true to his word, he leaned in close but never once touched me. “It would appear that whoever used that dermal regenerator was able to heal you, even if it wasn’t completely. As far as I can tell from my limited knowledge of Human anatomy, I don’t see any signs of infection, but...I suspect that will be painful for at least a few weeks. Do you know what they did to you?”
Wordlessly, I shook my head and looked once again at my companion.
“I am Letant.” I’d heard the name before, but where? He extended his hand to me, and I looked at it curiously. “Humans do shake hands as a greeting, do they not?”
After a slight hesitation, I grasped his hand and shook it firmly as I would a fellow officer’s. How strange for a Romulan to be so courteous. Normally, they were arrogant and insulting.
“Not that I don’t enjoy the sound of my own voice, but perhaps you could use yours now? What’s your name, Lieutenant?” At my look of suspicion, he rolled his eyes. “You are still in possession of your rank pins. Now, do you have a name, or don’t you?”
There was the bad attitude.
I opened my mouth and started to give him a piece of my mind, but...nothing came out. Breaking off in surprise, I brought a hand to my throat and swallowed before trying again. Only silence came out.
Oh shit. Why couldn’t I talk? I tried again, but with the same result, and panic began to well up inside me. Did this have something to do with whatever the hell they did to my throat? A hand rested on my shoulder and I found Letant looking at me concerned.
“You can’t talk?” I shook my head no, because apparently I couldn’t. “Could you speak before you came here?”
At my affirmative nod, he lifted one of my hands in his.
“What’s your name?” I blinked, dumbfounded by his question. Didn’t he understand that I couldn’t fucking talk? “Think your answers and I will hear them.”
As my panic subsided, it gave way to frustration. How fucking stupid did he think I was? I knew Romulan arrogance included looking down on all other species except their own, but, really, this was ridiculous. To my surprise, Letant scoffed and held my hand tighter as I tried to wrench it away from him. Damn Romulan strength.
“I do not believe you’re stupid - at least not significantly more than any other Human. You haven’t given me any reason to believe otherwise. We ‘arrogant Romulans’ are capable of touch telepathy. What you think, I will hear, including any of your impotent little insults. Now, tell me, stubborn girl, what is your name?” His tone was becoming increasingly agitated, and I reasoned that as I couldn’t exactly scream for help, it would probably be wise to do as he said.
Taking a deep breath, I stopped struggling and looked into his eyes as I thought my name. This was silly. Would he even really hear me? How did I know he wasn’t just lying to me, trying to humiliate me further when I was scared and vulnerable? Then again, he had apparently heard some of my thoughts from before... Looking away for barely a second to hide my embarrassment, I nearly gave myself whiplash when he repeated my full name and I turned quickly back to look at him. A smug, mirthful smile stretched his lips as he said it again.
“It’s a pleasure to be formally introduced, Lieutenant.” I blinked. I’d heard the words - they’d definitely come from him - but his lips hadn’t moved. Oh God, was I crazy now, too, as well as mute? “No, you’re not. I can speak with you telepathically just as well as I can hear you.”
Simple amazement flooded over me at his explanation, and a hint of pride colored his smirk.
“How easily you Humans are impressed. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I was up all night making sure that you’d survive. I’m going to get some sleep,” Letant said as he stood and moved back to lie on his cot. “Goodnight, Lieutenant. I would ask you to keep it down, but you don’t exactly have a choice, do you?”
Unable to express my frustration, I opted for lying back down and turning my back to him. What an ass.

alright so this is probably one of the things I disliked THE MOST about this show.. because Aki was such an interesting character thanks to all these conflicts and, quite literally, power ^^;
now it's not to say that she isn't interesting now but I think they could've done redemption on her much differently.. how come the others got power throughout the series, and she loses hers? How is that fair? Even more when her powers were something so rare, how do you even lose those, what the fuck man....
to me, they "downgraded" her and gave Sherry a lot of the same conflicts - but kept Sherry that way until her arc arc has finished, instead of doing what they did to Aki - and Aki, currently, is merely a shadow of the past having nowhere as near as much power, or confidence, or anything really ^^; but like.. yeah I get it, I get it.. everything she has done was kind of as a way to cope and as a defense, too, and after being "saved" by Yusei and the others, she has to start anew, to build that power and confidence and everything back up, and not relying on her psychic powers anymore etc etc..
what ended up happening - and this is the cure of girls in Yugioh, really - is that she becomes the helpless female character who is the love interest of the main character, and starts acting as such..... like I'm not shitting you, it's annoying at times.. where is the Aki we met at the start, the one that beat Yusei's ass? Where is that sadistic and evil Aki? Well, she's not evil anymore, now she is just some girl in a shonen series and will be treated as such (: and it's going to fucking suck ass (: (: I wanna scream man 🤣 get me out of here I hate this 🤣🤣
so.. how would I redeem Aki?
I would not change her into someone else! I would take all those "evil" things she did out of ignorance or as a way to survive and they would become important weapons to her. Everything under her control. I'm trying to think of another character that would fit here and Sherry and Jack both come to my mind! Sherry was "evil" in that she was seeking revenge desperately, but it didn't come from an uninformed or misguided place (much how it went for Aki); Jack can be very sadistic, even though it might not be so obvious but that whole grandiose demeanor of him, and the whole crushing the opponent through sheer brute force should tell you something. Neither him nor Sherry had to change extremely much in their own "redemption" arcs, while for Aki I feel like she is another person entirely..
now, it could be a deeper issue though.. maybe this is what Aki really looks like, and what we got when we met her was all a facade - or worse: something Divine sowed into her - or it could be also a product of trauma, etc.. well the fact is that she has had these powers ever since she was a kid and I don't think Aki as a kid was full of that "darkness" in her own heart, she was a kid, it was something else and this "darkness" made the powers grow. Alright
I like to think that she would eventually make peace with all these parts of herself and, eventually, move forward looking confident and powerful (with or without the psychic powers) but uhh, sure.. she's a teenager, she has a lot to process, and a lot to grow and heal too. Lastly, she ends up becoming a doctor. Very probable that comes from a place of repentance about past deeds, and it's fair.
I probably have to do my own process of grieving over what her character could've become and cry about the yugioh curse on female characters 🤣

I think that AGI is possible, and that we'll reach it pretty soon, but I don't think chatGPT specifical is conscious or intelligent. It doesn't try to understand anything, it doesn't reason, it doesn't think. We *know* how it works. It's a predictive text generator, like your phones autocomplete. "this is the only thing I can do to help with the fact that I have a lot of stuff to do with my phone" is a sentence my phone just typed out by itself, and it's pretty intelligible. But my phone has *no* idea what it just said, what a phone is, what the meaning of that sentence could be, etc. It just goes "what is the next word I'm supposed to say?" And says that. ChatGPT ends up being very convincing because it was trained to be convincing, but it doesn't know what it's actually saying.
Okay, again bearing in mind that I'm a layman and my understanding of this stuff is uninformed so any additional info helps, and I know that ChatGPT is dumber than it might look- what does "trained to be convincing" entail? How is it getting a good enough understanding of not only language but how to speak on a variety of subjects in detail something that it can achieve without, on the way to that, developing some sort of (extremely limited, abstract, and distorted) understanding of those topics?
