chimney insists it isn’t a destination wedding, since he and maddie went to the courthouse the day after he proposed and made it official.

(“just—you know. tomorrow isn’t promised, and all that,” he’d said, and the gathered frontrunners of the guinness world record for most deaths evaded, also known as his closest friends and colleagues, had nodded.

“and we don’t want to do a whole big thing, anyway,” he’d added. “we have a kid and a house. there are approximately seventy-three betters ways for us to spend that kind of money, and that’s just off the top of my head.”)

but everyone agreed there should be something—some way of celebrating their marriage, and maybe also the fact that they’re all still alive. as time goes by, it feels more and more like something to celebrate.

there’s some arguing, several votes, and some creative scheduling on bobby’s part, and they end up with a long weekend at an airbnb an hour outside of los angeles, spouses invited but children not.

buck drives them both up, because of course he does. the only discussion had been what time should i pick you up? and eddie tries to ignore it, like he always tries to ignore the way he and buck default to each other time and time again.

it doesn’t mean anything, he tells himself. it’s just that you’ve been friends for so long, and know each other so well, and sometimes when you close your eyes you imagine him—

it doesn’t mean anything, he tells himself. everything is fine.

they leave after maddie finishes a shift, and get in around dinner time. straws are drawn over who gets to make dinner, and bobby emerges the lucky winner.

“why don’t the rest of you get settled in the meantime?” he suggests. “i’ll be quick.”

maddie starts handing out room keys, although eddie’s not entirely sure why any of them will need a bedroom door that locks.

he’s also not entirely sure he wants to find out.

“oh,” maddie says, looking up at him and buck. “i thought—hm. there’s not as many rooms as i thought there’d be.”

buck frowns. “meaning?”

“can you two share a room?” maddie asks. “just—everyone else is. well. married.” she laughs a little, then looks down at the floor, self-conscious. chimney shows up out of nowhere to press a kiss to her temple.

eddie blinks. he’d known this, of course, on an objective, rational level—but it hits him now, standing in the living room of this airbnb with it’s large windows for gorgeous natural light and whatever the fuck else the description had said.

everyone else is married.

everyone else is married, but more often than not he and buck are treated as an equivalent unit anyway. despite not being married. despite not even being—

“yeah, no problem,” buck says, then turns to look at eddie, something hiding behind the grin on his face. “just don’t hog the blanket.”

eddie scoffs. “you’re one to talk.”

“okay, excuse me,” buck says, “i have never woken with the entire blanket hidden behind my back—”

“that was one time—”

“okay,” maddie says, holding the key out to buck and trying and failing to cover up a laugh. “so you’ll be fine, then.”

yeah, eddie thinks. definitely. it’ll be fine.

and he manages to believe it all the way through dinner, and a surprisingly intense round of charades. he believes it all the way through changing into the pyjamas he’s glad he thought to bring, focusing on organising the pairs of socks in his duffel bag so he doesn’t accidentally catch a glimpse of buck.

then they crawl into bed, eddie avoiding looking at buck so intently that he doesn’t notice buck avoiding looking at him, and—

“you’re doing it,” buck grumbles. “you’re hogging the blanket.”

“am not,” eddie shoots back. “you’re hogging the blanket. i barely have any of it.”

“stop yanking,” buck says. “maybe if you weren’t so far away—”

“you’re far away,” eddie says without thinking, and beside him, buck huffs.

“i’m just gonna—” he mutters, then shuffles around, until suddenly his arm is thrown over eddie’s waist and his face is pressed to eddie’s shoulder. his feet tangle with eddie’s, and the blanket settles comfortably over both of them.

“there,” buck mumbles. “room for both of us.”

eddie makes a noise, one that he hopes buck will interpret as assent. as anything, really, other than what it is, which is eddie’s brain short-circuiting at the feeling of buck’s chest against his back. the weight of buck’s arm on him, and the way buck’s hand has slipped just under the hem of eddie’s t-shirt, his warm fingers splayed against the bare skin of eddie’s stomach. he’s pretty sure that when they get out of bed in the morning, the shape of buck’s hand will be seared into his skin.

he’s imagined this, once or twice before. what it would be like to share a life with buck, to have all these liminal moments he misses out on with the way things are now, the almost-but-not-quite that they never talk about. he’s imagined it, and if felt just like this, right down to how cold buck’s toes are when they brush against his legs and how eddie can’t bring himself to pull away.

but it doesn’t mean anything, eddie tells himself. everything is fine.

only—buck settles in closer and sighs, and eddie, who has spent years listening to every sound buck makes, recognises this one.

this is the sound buck makes when he’s home.

- Germany - be careful who you call ugly in middleschool to da max. do not ask him if hes in republican club HES HAD IT HE JUST WANTS TO LOOK "SHARP" HES NOT A CONSERVATIVE STOP IT GUYS YOURE SO MEAN!!1!1!1!!! total A plus student yada yada u know him he also tried to run for student council president and actually won because his competator was england and everyone got their asses up to vote purely because they all agreed theyd fucking had it with englands bullshit but then the school was like wtf u know only 8th graders can be student president but england literally got one vote (from himself) so they have put the entire student body indefinately on hold since stopping people from making pancakes in the boys restroom is a higher priority rn

- Italy - Fucking Idiot. Besties with germany since forever cuz germany was/is autistic asf so he had mad trouble talking to people without sounding aggressive and italy is a fucking idiot who does not give a single shit. they bonded over germany being so fucking disgusted by italy eating grass and glue at lunch that he'd share half of his own lunch wif him and then told that his lunch tasted like his grandmas dentures <3 love wins. been in a friend group wif germany and japan since elementary school teehee!!!!

- Romano - twin brother (yes theyre twins here but romano is still older by matsuno rules) o' italy yeah romano already acts like hes 12 in canon theres nothin else to add

- America - unfortunately cursed with brother of england disease (god bless his soul) motherfucker also already acts like hes 12 in canon tf why do all these characters already act this way. okay but fr tho hes chill hes cool hes a weeb asf tho but pretty close to japan since they bond after school cuz america and englands parents drive china and japan home with them since china and japan's parents are too busy with work so china and japan just hang out at their house. Japan's forced to be apart of englands band but always ends up hanging out with america (because he actually has fun with him) despite how england keeps trying to say america cant hang out with them because hes a 7th grader

8th graders

- Japan - Straight A student as always but hes also the gateway for all the weeaboo infections at school. he introduced america to nico nico douga and hasnt recovered since. he tried to make takoyaki in the school restrooms once because he wanted everyone people to hopefully like them and stop making fun of him for loving balls (world peace will be achieved if i EVERYONE loves balls not just me) but unfortunately everyone kept buying only the pancakes :(((((( older cousin is china (they live in the same house basically tho cuz family lives close together n all). japans in 8th grade with him because he skipped a grade lol yeah japans 12 just like germany and italy

- England - Lead singer of his rock band "The Brapples" (fucking stupid ass name based off the beatles). its an after school garage band consisting of him, japan, and china but they dont even make any music they just hang out bc its hard to do punk songs with a keyboard on classic piano mode and a violin. He acts like hes a big punk rebel cool boy and all and wears cool jackets but hes actually a good two shoes snitch who is the only hall monitor at school because nobody wants to work wif him rodf. literally a fucking menace will rat out anybody instantly unless you bribe him and then he snitches on you for bribing. he tried to go for student council president but literally everybody agrees hes so fucking obnoxious fuck this bitch fr. dont get me wrong tho i luv england rodf hes the kid who everyone fucking hates but hes still accepted in da class friend group albiet with the role of "that friend nobody likes". the dee reynolds of the group if you will

OKAY THATS ALL THE MORE INDEPTH CHARACTERS IVE THOUGHT ABOUT IM STILL NURTURING EVERYONE ELSE INDIVIDUALLY but also some extra general info:

- 7th and 8th graders have mixed P.E. together and everyone has last block P.E. yayyy everyones together!1!!1

- 7th and 8th graders also have mixed lunch together but 6th graders have their own seperate lunch

- prussia spain and france are the mfs who make pancakes in the school restroom

- japan draws ship doujins of germany x italy for cash (all his art looks like the classic how to draw manga books) he sells his doujins for a dollar and everyones thinking theyre getting a little stale but have faith okay americas helping him with his next one to bring new concepts!1!1!1! italy thinks its funnie and likes being drawn hot asf and germany acts scandalized but goes "BUT- WELL WHO AM I TO DISCOURAGE YOU FROM PURSUING THE ARTS.......... and uhm. as the subject matter i should see how youre portraying me as well so you got any spare copies-"

- germany has a secret crush on italy fr and italy doesnt have a crush but does want to marry and travel the world with germany and live with him forever. he doesnt think thats a crush

- they all use human names within the au rodf but for this info post i use country names since thats easier to keep track of

the way the ominous bits are subtly hidden? it all sounds so cute but there are just these Things that she sings that are really kind of concerning and unhealthy when she sings them!! and the veiled desperation to be in her relationship- listening to that and the cheery tone and breakneck, quick song pace, it really does represent mahiru SO well. she throws in all these little bits that just go noooo teehee the relationships just fine!! when it REALLY isnt

I care so much about This is How To Be In Love With You- it's visuals are brilliant in the ways it conveys its themes and narrative. I'm never normal Ever about the "Love as marketing" symbolism that is brought in by the use of magazines. Springtime in Jackson had a lot of benefits, like more animals to be hunted, better harvest with lots of different types of crops which made for better food. The only downside, for you at least was how more precise patrols had to be. When the weather was warmer meant a higher possibility for infected and poachers. Which unfortunately for you meant that Tommy was out slot longer than you would like.

It was nearing ten at night when Tommy, Joel and the others finally arrived back home from patrol. Being stuck dealing with hoards of infected, it came to be no surprise that all he wanted to do was come home and see you.

After packing away his horse and gun, Tommy began his walk down to the Main Street. When it came to you staying up late for him to come home, which was alot more often as of late— Tommy knew exactly where you would be waiting for him.

Down inside the Tipsy Bison you were currently leaning against the bar along with one of your girlfriends, who came to keep you company. You were grateful that she stopped by because you always had the tendency to worry whenever Tommy would, your mind would flip through every worst scenario in your head like a good book. But Louise knew how to distract you, which apparently was by telling you her latest late night rendezvous with a particular coworker of yours.

“Okay Lou, please spare me the details. I’m working with him tomorrow morning and I don’t want to be traumatised.” You giggled, the few drinks the two of you drank together were already beginning to have its effect.

Absently your eyes drifted towards the saloon doors, your boyfriend still nowhere in sight. Sadly no amount of alcohol could ease your worries when it came to Tommy, the man was headstrong— which wasn’t always a good thing. “Hey I’m sure he’s okay.” Louise squeezed your hand reassuringly, despite your bubbly personality, she could still see how worried you were. “Now c’mon enough about me and more about you.”

A3 OUTFITS TOURNAMENT FINAL RESULTS!!

this has to be the most ridiculous podium ever but i did it I FIT EIGHT GUYS ON ONE STAND BC Y'ALL SAID POWER OF FRIENDSHIP RIGHTS

anyway our overall winning team consists of: azami (makeup candy) look, banri (guide your destiny), kazunari-sakuya-tsumugi (a3 x sanrio), and itaru-misumi-omi (mankai glitter bloomed). in 2nd place is sakuya's travel fit, and in 3rd is yuki's mankai starlit sky look! congrats to our top three,, or top 11 looks depending on how you look at it

friendship is great and all but i still wanted to determine the best outfit in all of a3 (well, of all the official categories that were done anyway) so under the cut you can find stuff like top 10 fits, all the characters ranked based on their average vote count, everyone's worst and best fits, and the troupes ranked based on their total average vote count

WORST TO BEST DRESSED CHARACTERS

this is based on their average vote count (each character's total number of votes across all official categories divided by the number of categories they were in). those with ugly ass decimals were rounded off to the 1st decimal place. read from left to right:

THE ABSOLUTE GAP BETWEEN YUKI AND THE REST OF THEM HE REALLY ISN'T THEIR TAILOR FOR NOTHING

taichi being #2 was a bit of a dark horse to me ngl. i guess helping yuki sew costumes must've rubbed off on him,, maybe yuki gives him fashion advice while they're sewing late into the night,, ideas... TAIYUKI SHIPPERS GET ON THIS

i personally believe muku's average score would've been higher if he hadn't been pitted against yuki in round 1 in every category. i'm so sorry little prince 😔

tsumugi was really NOT doing hot in most of the categories, since he was up against azuma in round 1 in all the categories, until we got to the sanrio category where he absolutely solo'd and tied with sakuya-kazunari, as well as the fan submissions category where his sweet cosmetics charm look and stray devil blues costume were submitted, and both did pretty well in there

as a banri girlie i was a little worried in the first few categories, but he pulled through in the later categories so i guess there is some substance to him being canonically a fashionista 😌

TROUPES' RANKING

while everyone was pitted against each other, this is also a team effort to see which troupe has the best drip overall (<- makes up shit as she goes along). to do this, within each troupe i took their total number of votes and divided it by the total number of categories they were in to get their overall average score

as an example:

so these are the 4 troupes ranked from best to worst fashion sense (once more the ugly-ass decimals were rounded off to 1 decimal place bc i ain't typing all that):

some thoughts:

interestingly enough, despite yuki's individual score leaving the rest in the dust, the summer troupe is only 3rd place (tho that might have to do with half the troupe being in the bottom 8 💀)

i wasn't expecting spring to end up in 1st place, but then again i guess i should've expected that since half the troupe is in the top 8. congrats harufam <3

azami, taichi, and banri carried autumn let's be real /lh i was expecting azami and banri bc those boys really care about their appearance but once more taichi was a dark horse to me. guess that's a lesson to not question taichi's tboy skater boy swag congrats king <3

i'm sorry winter,, maybe yuki/banri/azuma/taichi needs to take tasuku and guy clothes shopping...

EACH CHARACTER'S WORST OUTFIT bc yall are haters /lh

some thoughts:

the fact that sanrio is azuma's so-called WORST look says a lot about his fashion sense, like i don't think that man has any BAD looks tbvh. sure some are a little simple (e.g. spring, rehearsal, autumn) but they're far from bad in any sense of the word

tsumugi's summer fit deserved a little better but it was up against azuma's which took 2nd place in the summer category so...

i actually like tenma's mankai glitter bloomed look (yes i voted against him for banri in round 1 but still) if anything it's his travel fit that deserves the 'worst' moniker imo 💀

sakuya's pure snow fairy outfit is actually really cute but it was brutally ratioed by kazu's 'in the loud cheering' fit :(

i think guy's mankai glitter bloomed fit would've been better if the shoes were more on-theme, like golden sandals or something, instead of those black office shoes

kumon really wasn't doing well in this tournament so him getting over 100 votes in the mankai glitter bloomed category and placing 2nd (together with banri lmfao) is a big deal to me 🥺

tbh i wasn't expecting chikage to do this... not good in the tournament bc i think he's a good-looking guy and he doesn't really have any TERRIBLE outfits,, so it might be his position in the bracket, like if he didn't lose to omi in round 1 then he would've gotten thrashed by either itaru or misumi in round 2 💔

I DESPISE SAKYO'S SANRIO OUTFIT IT DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE HIS BEST GOODBYE.

sex appeal is very important in this tournament apparently. case in point: banri mankai encore (the tiddy and neck,,, 👀) and everything omi has got going on in his mankai encore look 😳 he went from ma to daddy real quick IM SORRY

azami makeup candy outsold it's this blog's icon for a reason 💕

tasuku's travel fit deserved better tbh but he was against azuma in round 2 and he was absolutely ratioed and then azuma went on to snag 2nd place in that category which IMO was deserved but still... 😔

TOP 10 OUTFITS

based on the number of votes (from the categories' polls themselves and the finals for those that made it to the finals), it looks like sakuya's travel fit is the best outfit in a3! special shoutout to yuki and taichi for being the only characters with two outfits in the top 10 <3

do keep in mind that the number of votes don't completely determine what is the best or worst look bc there were a lot of other factors that affected the votes too, like some polls had more total votes (bc of more reblogs and stuff) so naturally each option would probably have more votes than polls that had fewer total votes. so this isn't a scientific finding or anything it's just for fun <3
