Hogwarts Legacy - When they ask you out

Hi! I'm FelixShii, but you can just call me Felix. This is my first time posting anything on Tumblr, so please be gentle! I've had severe Hogwarts Legacy brainrot lately, so here's just a cute little preference for the main 3 companions + Ominis because I love him. I'm open for requests and ideas if you'd like to throw them my way! For now I'm just writing for these 4, but I'll probably be happy to write for some teachers and other students eventually. I can do fics, imagines, oneshots- pretty much anything. I hope you enjoy reading, and since I'm new here, don't be afraid to come and say hi! 💕

Very slight angst in Ominis' section- squint and you'll miss it, though. Reader is gender neutral and can fit into any house in all my works, unless explicitly stated otherwise. They are implied to be muggleborn in Ominis' section, though.

Sebastian Sallow

• On the outside, Sebastian would be just as charming and confident as ever, if not a little more skittish.

• Once out of your view though, Sebastian would stay up late many nights, pondering and overthinking. Dreams of you, anxious thoughts that his feelings would be one-sided.

• Eventually, it was actually Ominis who pushed Sebastian to confess his feelings to you. He told Sebastian it was because he was 'tired of hearing him shake and rock in his bed like a scared puffskein.' Sebastian knew it was really because Ominis wanted him to be happy.

• He'd ask you out to Hogsmeade by owl, inviting you for a butterbeer. Just the two of you.

•He'd start by talking about something mundane- deulling or classes, but you suspected something was up when he was fumbling over his words.

• When you asked him if he was feeling alright, it was like a dam broke. Strings of almost incoherent sentences spewed from his mouth, and he was blushing like a fool.

• Even with him bumbling like an idiot and as red as a beet, you got the message- and the two of you left The Three Broomsticks hand in hand, with lovestruck looks on your faces.

• With his earlier jumpy behaviour you'd expected something to be up with him, anyway- so him asking you out was only a little surprising.

• You hadn't however, expected Sebastian to lean in and kiss away the butterbeer froth from the top of your lip.

• He of course, only smirked at you smugly, pulling you back to the castle by your hand so you weren't late for class. If you were, he'd take the fall for you.

Ominis Gaunt

• At first Ominis really tries to deny his feelings.

• But he can't help the fact that his heart speeds up or his thoughts get cloudy around you.

• When he realises just how down bad for you he is, he pushes you away. Shuts you out. He didn't want you to get hurt. But, he makes sure to use his connections around the castle even if he's not with you- to make sure you're taking care of yourself.

• He knew what the Gaunts would do to a muggleborn like you if they knew he was romantically involved with you.

• You're really confused and hurt when he starts avoiding you in and outside of classes, and Sebastian is just as oblivious to the situation as you.

• One night you enter the undercroft to do some studying, as it's damp quiet was better than the beast chatter and cauldron bubbling of the room of requirement.

• You stop in your tracks when you hear quiet whining, spotting the crumpled heap that was Ominis Gaunt in the corner.

• He hadn't heard you, judging by how high he jumped in fear when you approached him.

• It takes a lot of coaxing and patience to get it out of him, but he eventually tells you what's going on and why he'd been avoiding you.

• All you can do is pull him closer to you, placing a kiss on his forehead and smiling softly. Of course your safety was his top priority. What a sweetheart. You inform him that his feelings for you are not unrequited, to which he responds by smiling brightly at you, pressing a soft kiss to your cheek.

Natsai Onai

• Natsai, being the brave and confident Gryffindor she is, isn't at all shy or embarrassed around you.

• Even with her feelings for you making her palms sweat and her heart race, she is just as friendly and happy around you as she normally would be.

• Actually confides in her mother for advice- not that she's nervous, she just wanted a second opinion on what to do.

• Her mother tries to read her palms, look at tea leaves and all other manner of odd divination tricks to try and help her.

• Natty knows her mother means well, but she wasn't exactly being helpful with any of this.

• So, after a moment of thinking, Natsai decides she doesn't need theatrics, she'll just ask you out when she wants to.

• So, the next morning at breakfast, Natty promptly sits down next to you at your table and beams brightly.

• Her confidence doesn't falter as she confesses her feelings to you while simultaneously piling her plate with food.

• You're just sat there, stunned at her straightforward nature. But, it makes sense- Natty is a Gryffindor after all.

• It takes you a moment to shake out of your surprise, but you eventually return her wide grin, only able to nod your head yes as she asks you to be her partner.

Poppy Sweeting

• Poppy is naturally a somewhat shy, timid and skittish girl, as most who knew her already knew.

• That is only amplified tenfold when she's around you

• You had caught her staring in your direction a few times in class, and she'd always let out a small squeak of surprise and look away, quickly hiding her rapidly reddening face.

• Every time you've tried to approach her about it, she'd practically ran away, spewing a quick excuse. You were starting to think something was wrong. Had you done something?

• One day to your surprise, Poppy stops you in front of your common room, her head down and something in her hands.

• She shoves it to you wordlessly before retreating quickly, her face bright red.

• Inside your palm is a note. Hand-written on parchment. You notice that most of the sentences are scratched out. The only readable part was the bottom. 'Meet me at the black lake, 9pm.'

• Upon arriving at the requested time, you spot a group of lacewing flies illuminating the lake. More importantly, you notice poppy sitting at the waters edge, fidgeting with something in her hand.

• She tries to act calmly upon noticing you've arrived, but her red face gives her away. She hands you the object in her hand. A pheonix feather- you gasp. It must have been hard for her to get this.

• You notice her breath is coming out in cold puffs, and wordlessly offer her your house scarf, which she wraps herself up in. You knew she was far too shy to say anything herself, so you just laughed quietly and told her that you liked her too. The two of you sat huddled together by the lake for so long that Poppy fell asleep on your shoulder.

guys i genuinely can't believe we hit 1,000 followers !! my journey on tumblr has only really just begun, but i feel like i made so many cool friends along the way, and i'm forever grateful to everyone that interacts with my blog !!

i literally am smooching all of you rn, can't believe i came back after (admittedly the world's shortest) break </3 i don't even know what to say other than thank you - you guys give me the motivation to write and make bots and just push through on this app when people get weird.

so... i thought i'd do a little something? i wasn't sure exactly what to do, but i think i had an idea that would be pretty fun? i mean obvs bot requests are always open, but i thought maybe of people send in some fic requests, i can compile all of them into the poll, and i'll write a long one-shot of the winner !!

Honestly it's been like.. more than a year since I joined the Tumblr fandom and I had some of the best time with a lot of people and I want to try and bring some of them up here now!

@cassie-thorne Max you're literally one of the first persons I talked to and I think you're super cool (scratch that, you're the coolest). Your art is just one of the best (open up shop, seriously, I'll pay five kidneys) and I just love how we used to geek out every Wednesday. (They aren't Wednesdaying anymore lmao). You're literally one of the nicest people ever and I still read some of your old comments because it's just chaos and just so much love and happiness. Thank you for being an active person in the fandom because I don't know how I'll ever get through the Crimes, Blades brainrot alone.

@jerzwriter Jerz, argh I absolutely love your thoughtful comments and your insight into things! And your writing - damn! You have this beautiful way with words with respect to dialogue and it's so witty and clever and just downright amazing. I've yet to catch up with a lot of your stuff lol, I'll definitely use my upcoming days off to do just that.

And plus - just impeccable music taste lol. I might actually get into Noah Kahan and suspend down forty feet into listening to Stick Season over and over and over again XD! I've always admired your way of handling things - be it with fandom BS or just life in general. It is just so fricking admirable, I'll be taking notes lmaoo thank you for staying in the fandom despite everything and thank you for continuing to maintain this extensive library CFWC of works with @lucy-268 in the fandom. It's tough work! I just heavily heavily appreciate it. (Now go play Blades! Trust me it's worth it!)

@mydemonsdrivealimo MJ! You have literally one of the best art styles - hands down and I just absolutely love the amount of thought you put into Jensen. You actually have inspired me to put out my own HCs out there, get past that reluctance. Jensen being ace might have actually made me feel so much better about writing ace characters too, because apart from a couple of ace MCs who were pretty unknown so to speak, it was kind of lonely. The queer discussions we have within our fandom has honestly inspired me to step out of my "shell" and talk about it more.

I also want to take a moment to shout out @peonyblossom and @gutsfics too because just talking about queerness through mediums such as fics and art and metas helps so much and makes people feel a little less alone. I also want to send another shoutout towards @jaredkau for their Aromantic!Tobias headcanon and Tobias and Ethan in this QPR which makes me just lose my mind in the best way possible. And can I just say I love reading your lil headcanons so freaking much?? Like?? They're just so good - they're silly, they're fluffy, angsty and just downright queer and it's given me a lot of encouragement to write more queer pairings. I've always had this plaguing doubt about depicting LGBTQIA+ because I'd think, "Man even though I'm queer, I don't think I can do a good job of it" and now it's gone with the wind <333 Thank you so much for this!

@lilyoffandoms Such a positive figure in this fandom, I'm so glad you pop up on my dash with your fics, boosts of encouragement and art! I think Lily's works were some of the first things I read on this blog - with the whole Crimes hyperfixation thing and I absolutely fell in love with their writing style and it's like y'know this subtle, clever way that you just catch onto the subtext faster than any of the idiots (affectionate) who are completely oblivious about each other's feelings. Thank you for being here, Lily!

@lovealexhunt Dani, thank you for lighting up my inbox with just the most beautiful positivity messages. They actually do help a lot! It gives me a reason to just take care of myself. Thank you for all your blood, sweat and tears aha on @choicesbookclub because you've just built this beautiful little town square for people to chime in their thoughts. It feels like Old Choices back again when I'd just come on Tumblr and scroll through what people are thinking about the latest chapter. Seriously, you do so much for the fandom, you might as well be its actual engine and it has brought so many people together. I don't think I'd have known some of the people I know here without you bringing the fandom into one collective space. Thank you so much for just about everything, even though thank you is literally the understatement of the century. I'm just eternally grateful to have been accepted and included.

@cariantha Honestly like - the TALENT? Ma'am save some for the rest of us XD! I remember coming across Cari's Pictagram series of her OH MC, Sawyer and my jaw dropped - like the edits were just absolute killer. Banger after banger. And her fics - omg - especially the one where they're stuck in an elevator and Ethan still manages to throw her this Valentine's Day party; argh, it has my heart. Just fluffy goodness. Cari's just too good man, too freaking good. Thank you for encouraging me to come back to OH, even though I'm still a bit iffy on that ground lol - maybe I'll do a replay and start from scratch, who knows?

I want to give a quick shout-out to writers whose works I NEED to get on! @starsarewithinme and @moominofthevalley because y'all are the reason why the Crimes tag isn't just completely dead XD and I'd love to get to your writing as soon as I can. @peonierose because I miss Bryce and Luna and their adorable little family so much. I hope you're doing well Peonie <3 @aallotarenunelma - it has been a long time and I'd love to dive right back into your It Lives works and it's literally some of the best, poetic, most evocative writing I've ever come across, ever. @starlight-starfury I HAVE to get to your Tyril x MC works and they're so freaking good! You just capture the "whipped"-ness of Tyril's character so well. Thank you for that!

Honestly there are a lot of people, I'll admit. I might even have to make a part two for the 'I'll-give-Da-Vinci-a-run-for-his-money' artists and 'baby-girl-i-can-invent-new-angsty-scenarios-you've-never-even-heard-of' writers that I missed out on in this post. But thank you for the wildest, chaotic and the kindest - if I can describe it that way - ride ever. I'm so grateful to be a part of this clan of people and we just gush out over pixellated people and make up our own stories because PB doesn't do that (okay enough PB jibes lol). Thank you so much for being at the very heart of the fandom, keeping this alive. You are all just downright amazing people and amazing is such an understatement. I hope you guys know that.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

Six. I really need to cross-post some stuff, including what I wrote for Steddie Love Month and the Flufftober Spring Event.

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

16,565 words.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Stranger Things and let me tell you, the brainrot is not subsiding (it is settling in to fester now).

4. What are your top 5 3 fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yes! And I'm sure my answers are always too long-winded 😂 It makes me so happy to get comments on the silly things I write. Actually, brb, I'm sure in the initial excitement, I have forgotten to respond to some here and there.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

This ficlet (WARNING: BREAK UP FIC). Life got hectic during Eddie Month so I only wrote a couple of things and this one hurrrrt baaad.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Hmm, tough to pick seeing as I usually write happy endings. Lol, the number of times I ended something with Steddie kissing or saying, "I love you". I think I'll go with the entirety of my Joanie Munson AU because it's where I aim to be as fluffy/sappy as possible.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I am extremely thankful that so far I haven't. And I am sending all my love and hugs to people who deal with/have dealt with hateful comments.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Steve Harrington & Eddie Munson vs. A Box of Condoms is the closest I have come (hehe, pun). Idk, I struggle to write smut. I'm much better with suggestive language and innuendo, but somehow this fic got the balance right and honestly, gave me a lot of confidence!

10. Do you write crossovers?

No. But I need everyone to know that I have a Riverdale x ST crossover sloshing around in my brain juice on the regular.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge. But now I'm paranoid *also proceeds to have an existential crisis about ai scraping my very internet-based soul.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but I'm more than welcome for someone to reach out.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. I am absolutely open to it though! The closest to a collab I have done is Just a Shirt in which I wrote a whole fic from some incredible tags that were left on a ficlet.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

I mean, it's gotta be Steddie right? I've never had a hyperfixation give me brainrot like this. Though, if we go back to lame teenage me, the ship that really got me into the fic/tumblr sphere was Sterek.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

I have been returning to a few wips I thought I had abandoned lately, so never say never. I firmly believe in taking a break if something isn't working out and circling back with fresh eyes.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Despite how I am probably answering most of these questions (lmao), I think I am pretty good at keeping my writing concise and moving it right along. It's not that I rush writing, but I am good at recognising when something I have written begins to meander. I like writing dialogue where people are cutting each other off, and crafting stuff that is a quick little ficlet etc. Having said this...

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Descriptive language. I always get so caught up in action and dialogue that I easily forget descriptions of surroundings, objects, clothes etc. Funnily enough, right now I am working on a few quick visual aids (flash-sheet style sketches) for my Steddie BB fic of things that I need to keep in mind/remember to describe as a strategy that will hopefully help.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I could never do it (I only speak English), but honestly, kudos to you if you do/can!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Stranger Things is the first fandom I have written for.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

I swear to god this isn't a plug, but I thiiiiink it might be the wip I am oh-so-close to finishing. It's basically a character study of Steve's Mom and is her POV of the end of season 3. I have shared some snippets in the STWG server (and complained during writing sprints). I just need to do a solid edit and get a vibe-check read-through from someone else then it's good to go!!!

Your opinion on all the side characters? Or what you like or dislike in each of them?

Thanks for the ask, and it's a long one! Nice for a change. Let's see...

- Jonny 2x4 - one of the characters I'm guilty of neglecting... But I think he's a fun, quirky kid (even when he's supposed to be annoying). I remember when I first watched Dear Ed (where he got in a fight with Plank) the scene at the playground made me sad for him. It seems to me there's not much Jonny fanart here on tumblr compared to how Plank and him are considered icons of the show elsewhere. That's probably what makes some like me less interested in the character... I hardly react to pics of real Plank IRL, sorry Plank fans 😅

- Sarah - she's fun... c'mon! Again, non-tumblr fans are on a different planet, the hate boners people have for a 6-7(?) year-old character are entertaining... for a while. I love that she's actually intimidating and strong, she ain't just bark and no bite, another less slapstick-focused show would have handled her differently. A lot of people cheer for the scene where Ed shouts at her in Little Ed Blue, cause they want to see her get "just desserts", but I never care about that, I like her for the rabid little princess she is lol. I also like people's headcanons of her treating her brother better as she grows up, and hopefully escaping the unhealthy favoritism from her parents.

- Jimmy - even more than Sarah, the hate he sometimes gets is really tedious to me... he's always entertaining, especially his "theatre kid" moments, and his squeaky voice borders on "dog frequencies" sometimes haha. The only thing I've found slightly odd is maybe his flaws and negative traits (spoiled, Sarah always has his back, secretly a cunning little bastard) are sometimes given a free pass just because he's queer-coded, maybe? This only ever bothered me exclusively in relation to someone like Kevin being written off instead, but this my own bias, just a lighthearted observation (for real tho please tell me if this is a dumb reasoning)

- Nazz - she's the nicest and most well-adjusted "normal" kid around (if you ask me kevin ain't normal haha), but had an unfortunate starting point of "girl all the boys have a crush on", which she was never developed out of, or at least not nearly enough as she should have been. I've read something about the writers struggling to figure out what to do with her, maybe? Can't remember. Some people point out her hidden intelligence, but I think it would also be interesting to explore her negative traits, mainly I see her as slightly two-faced/flighty when it comes to how she interacts with the Eds.

Kevin - oh boy, my sense of this character is probably so skewed... The one character I used to get upset and annoyed about like an idiot, in regards to other people's takes and such, sometimes I resent the fact I ever got fixated on the character... why??? Help 🤣 I guess what torments me is that the viewer was never really meant to like him or find him interesting in any way? and doing otherwise is just a case of "fandom brainrot", I dunno what others think 😵‍💫 His jerk/bully role is definitely handled in more interesting ways than other shows would, there's enough meat to the character I guess it's possible to be invested in headcanons/developments. (or so I convince myself...)

Without getting too rambling, let's just say I love him as much as I'd find it entertaining to see him get incinerated by a flamethrower lmao.

Rolf - my other favorite ofc, and a much more pleasant one lol. Nothing embarrassing about loving this character, for sure. In fact I'm probably guilty of not seeing his flaws, but I guess he can be arrogant, and violent/gross with his traditions, when he could learn to be lenient considering how he's treated with a fair amount of tolerance by the cul-de-sac. But in the end he's just a kid trying to get used to a new land and culture.

Kanker sisters - I never thought much about Lee but my eyes have been opened by the implication that being the oldest one in a tough family/social background kinda excuses a lot of her behavior... But others can analyse this better than me.

I think Marie is the unfortunate middle sister who maybe had the least distinct personality? (beyond her aesthetic hinting at her being a punk chick), thankfully she's got plenty fans (btw her being underdeveloped is more food for thought for marie x nazz/nazzarie 👀...). I haven't got much to say unfortunately, other than my first eene ship was eddmarie exactly because of Marie development.

I'm guilty of seeing May as the most innocent one (certainly thanks to that bit where she cries in Hanky Panky Hullabaloo) and the only Kanker I'm keen on shipping with an Ed (the Ed).

Bro? - well... He serves his purpose haha. And he's got an interesting aesthetic. I do like people being invested in the character and even liking him or imagining a more redemptive interpretation of him. Fans have been able to like much more monstrous characters in fiction, being a Bro fan is no big deal... "I can fix him" sure go ahead! You're a saint 🤣

BASICS.

name: nev/nejvamin/nevward/nevington/whatever u want really age: 24 whole years old pronouns: they/he/she in that order of preference gfhjghjf years of writing: uhhhh since i was in primary school really so like. 18? years? oh god... that sounds like so many years wth

REFLECTION.

why did you pick up writing? i hate to say it but it was when i read the warrior cats books for the first time. i started writing my own bits and pieces surrounding my own warrior cats literally in bed at midnight in a tiny little like a6 notepad i'd been given for a birthday or something when i was six years old and it just snowballed from there. i found a warrior cats forum to rp on when i had my own pc and then i found my way to deviantART and all of the many rp groups on there! then it was tumblr and discord and the rest is history! i've been on tumblr for a While now (either unfortunately or fortunately depending on what way you look at it) and i've since had a Lot of thoughts about trying to write my own novel but i'm still debating on that with myself lmao do you have any writing routines? honestly? none at all. it all depends on whether i have the energy or thought process to get any words down. it's a lot harder at the moment with balancing my job and a horse but i'm hoping to get back into the swing of it sooner or later when my hours drop back down at work again! the most i do is i slap a playlist (or my current brainrot song) on and i pick threads at random depending on which ones i can think of a first sentence to reply with. what's your favorite part about writing? exploring characters and their actions. i really found my stride when i started writing more introspective responses to people. the idea of being able to get into a character's head and know what they're thinking (or not thinking) about is just something that i honestly can't get enough of. another thing though is the creation of a scene as a whole? i tend to 'see' the pieces i'm writing as movie scenes i'm directing, rather than a piece of writing. it makes life hard sometimes but it's just so fun to get to put what i'm seeing down on paper

THREE THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR WRITING.

i. oh jeez.... my dialogue? i like to think that the dialogue i use fits my character's voice as well as physically possible? i have pages and pages of dialogue written out for my ocs and otherwise as a fun writing exercise so i'd like to think i'm pretty good at it by now and changing it to suit what muse i'm writing. speech habits are a fascination of mine so i'd like to think that shows through in my writing ii. i try to match my style to whoever i'm writing with? if my writing partner uses more flowery language then i try to match them and vice versa. it's a good exercise for me specifically because i tend to fall into some repetitive habits so i do my best to avoid that iii. bruh this is so hard actually. i'd like to think that i'm quite good at describing emotions? i try to make them as visceral and physical as possible and i think it adds another layer to my characterisation when you can read about how they feel their grief or their joy

A QUESTION FOR THE NEXT PERSON.

what was the first character you ever picked up to start rping? why did you gravitate to them? qr/ow bra/n/wen. i always find myself drawn towards the characters that show their affection in different ways - the tough outer shell and the soft heart. qrow was and is still fascinating to me because he's been through so much in his life and he refuses to let it get in the way of how he treats his nieces and their friends. yeah, he's rough around the edges and comes across as gruff and rude but he genuinely and completely cares about the smiles on his kids faces and that's something i just can't get enough of in a muse. i love cracking open a character and exploring who they are beneath what they show the people around them QUESTION: what keeps you coming back to tumblr rp? what do you enjoy about writing with strangers/friends on the internet?

Cirralings

(Splatoon fan species)

Aka: I overanalyzed Raian's design and ended up making a whole species of cirrate octopuses (otherwise known as dumbo octopuses) over it.

(The cover is an edited version of the official White Day 2020 illustration, if anyone's wondering.)

(Also, I'm going to use a lot of synonyms for "cirrate octopus", so here's a little list of what they all mean)

Cirrate octopus: octopus in the suborder "Cirrina" or "Cirrata"

Dumbo octopus: finned octopus (note: every cirrate octopus has fins, so they all classify as dumbos)

Flapjack octopus and Umbrella octopus: octopus from the family "Opisthoteuthidae"

Now, without further ado...

Introduction

I love dumbo octopuses. Who doesn't? With their little ear-fins flapping around as they float majestically through the deep sea, it's hard not to like them. And their rarity only makes them more mysterious and interesting. If they ever were to add a dumbo octopus character in Splatoon, the whole fandom would go crazy for sure. It's a wonder how absent they are from the franchise.

...or are they?

If you're in the splatband fandom, you probably know who this is. This is Raian (or Orion in the English localization) from the band Chirpy Chips! This creature has been mercilessly occupying my brain for, uh... almost a year now. Help.

But here's the most interesting part about them: they're a flapjack octopus! That's right, they're canon! And they've been right here since Splatoon 1. But... there's one small problem. They don't look like an Octarian at all. This is possibly explained by the fact that cirrate octopuses don't have ink sacs, and Octolings (like Inklings) are primarily composed of ink. That's where my fan species comes in!

They're mostly a product of me over-analyzing Raian's design and adapting it to my style. But then, I started attaching a lot of lore to them, and... boom. Now I've made an entire species over an obscure Splatoon character from an arguably less obscure in-game band. The brainrot made me do it, and I don't regret it in the slightest.

Design breakdown

(I wanted to provide a closeup of every single element over the course of the post, but I can't because of Tumblr's picture limit. Don't hesitate to go back to the design sheet above if you need to.)

The eyes

When I first saw Raian, I thought they had pitch-black eyes. Turns out they're probably just closed, but I really liked the idea. Since cirrate octopuses live in the deep sea, they'll probably need to see as much light as possible. The Octarians also have this alien theme going on, as with octopuses in general. And with deep-sea creatures often being described as real-life aliens, I figured that I would take this aspect and go all out with it. I'm aiming for a "cute yet vaguely eerie" vibe, and I think the eyes fit very well with that!

However, I do think they would have coloured eyes. Or even irises! Take the Stauroteuthis genus (picture on the right), for example.

The fins

What's a dumbo octopus without its fins? They're always flapping about, so I loved the idea of having them move based on how they're feeling. Despite not giving them any eyebrows, I would still keep the "eyebrow muscles" for the sake of more dynamic facial expressions (like the ones in the introduction picture).

Their bangs are made out of webbing. As for the "antennas" on some haircuts, they're a modified pair of cirri! With the importance of fins, I figured that Cirralings would enjoy having "ear surrogates" for when their ears are hidden.

To those who don't know: a cirrus is a small hair-like strand that moves a bit like a mini-tentacle. The suborder "Cirrina" is named after those strands, which they most likely use for feeding.

If we go back to Raian's design, there's a problem: despite being a cirrate octopus, they don't have any visible suckers nor cirri. Will we ever know your secrets, mysterious chiptune flapjack???

...so, I came up with something. If we go back to the reference picture under "Design breakdown," the suckers are on the same side as Inklings and they're covered by their cirri. It's a little unusual, but again, it fits with the vibe I'm trying to create.

The swim form

Since many cirrate octopuses live at the bottom of the ocean, I figured that I should keep them adapted enough to sit on the sea floor like they usually do. Those who live in the open ocean probably look more like a traditional octo form.

One thing's for sure: Opisthoteuthidae certainly don't need much stylization with how cartoony they already look.

The hands

Cirrate octopus have a lot more webbing between their tentacles than incirrate ones. Here's a cool way to translate this: webbed fingers and toes!

I'm sorry for telling you to scroll back again, but I'm very proud of how I drew that hand. Look at it. I'm not forcing you, like- you don't have to do it if you don't want to, but. Look.

The teeth

These are just Octoling teeth but flipped and a little different. I also decided to "fuse" the teeth together to better distinguish them from the Octarians.

My main goal with this species is to show how differently they would evolve compared to their surface-dwelling cousins, all while staying similar to each other. I haven't studied biology since secondary 4 (aka 10th year of American high school), though, so please take this with a miniscule grain of salt.

The mask and neck, as well as any other design choice that I haven't explained, are just some elements of Raian's design that kinda just... exist. That doesn't mean they're useless, though. If anything, it makes them look more "cirrate-like."

On a side note, I thought it would be cool to base them around what they're most famous for: their appearances! Given their reputation as "the octopus suborder that makes scientists so happy that one of its species almost got called 'Opisthoteuthis Adorabilis'", I think they have something to be proud of.

Unorganized tidbits of lore

I wanted to illustrate all of these individually, but I'm pretty busy with university. Also, I'm kinda slow at drawing. In the end, I got too impatient and decided to reveal my most developed ideas right then and there.

Cirratians, like most deep sea species, evolved through many miracles. First, the miracle of coming in contact with the crystals. Second, the miracle of evolving on dry land via caves. Third, the miracle of surviving in the harsh, barren underground.

Because of this, they evolved to be drastically different from their surface-dwelling counterparts. Since they don't have ink sacs, their bodies are mainly composed of water. However, they can still be splatted by getting submerged in dense enough liquids such as brine.

Not every cirrate octopus is a Cirraling, as evidenced by the existence of cirrate Octolings. As the name suggests, the latter are Octolings with cirrate ancestry. They almost always inherit the ink bodies of Octarians, but some are born without ink sacs. There are two types of cirrate Octolings: those whose ancestry dates back to the dawn of evolution (often through interbreeding and assimilation) and those whose ancestry is a result of modern Cirro-Octarian contact. Scientists are still researching this odd, prolonged "contact gap".

Similarly to Octarians, they have their own variants born from severed tentacles. Though, due to their different needs, these ones are non-sapient and take the role of cattle and companions. In ancient times, long tentacles were considered a sign of wealth.

They have a traditional dance characterized by slow movements and light, flowing fabric. Skilled dancers will try to make their costumes flow as much as possible without moving too fast. If they did, it would be considered a waste of energy.

Like many deep sea cultures, one of the most important gods they worship is based on ancient whale falls (illustration by @thap34nut ). This large, skeletal god is a symbol of plenty. It is credited as the origin of marine snow and an essential provider of food to their ancestors. In the afterlife, it will grant eternal satiety to those who died of starvation. Meanwhile, it will punish the greedy with eternal hunger. To honour that god, they have a similar holiday to Squidmas colloquially called "the Deepest Gratitudes." The many bone decorations (which are usually painted rock sculptures) are often the source of culture shock to many uninformed outsiders.

Despite their internal shells, Cirralings are very squishy. This allows them to better withstand their highly pressurized environment. However, this also makes them vulnerable: they are notably more prone to bruising than most inkfish. So, they prioritize diplomacy over conflict.

Their natural charisma is known all over the deep sea, and many young Cirralings move to bigger cities in hopes of breaking through the idol industry. They are often stereotyped as charming and polite at best, or two-faced manipulators at worse.

Despite their reputation, they have a certain "shyness" to them. Indeed, most Cirratian cities and settlements are rather isolated. Their conflict-avoidant culture is most likely a result of the competitive, individualistic atmosphere of early deep sea civilization. Since then, however, the "spirit" of humanity and the survivalism of deep sea life managed to blend together more smoothly. Despite their cold and aloof appearance, these modern civilizations are now characterized by a certain sense of unity.

Cirratian society is noted to have a pretty unique atmosphere, even compared to their surrounding cultures. Despite shrouding themselves in mystery, they are warm and welcoming. Despite living simple lives, their social rules are very strict.

Cirralings are significantly less concerned with imitating humans. Their skin tones are rarely human-like, and while dull, they vary a lot in terms of colours. Their fins and tentacles also play a very important role in expressing emotions, sometimes even more than facial expressions. They have gained minor colour-changing abilities from the crystals, though many of them describe the process as "time-consuming and not very instinctive." They specialize more in bioluminescence.

Their eyes vary much less than other humanoids: they are large and dark to absorb as much light as possible. Some may have smaller or lighter irises, but this is rather uncommon. Cirratians come in all shapes and sizes, but their eyes are their most recognizable aspect.

The Cirratians and the Octarians have an odd relationship. They want to understand each other better, as there's potential for solidarity and brotherhood. However, it's hindered by their inherently different values.

Sometimes, Cirralings sneak to the surface in search of resources. They rarely interact with surface dwellers, as both parties would fear each other in the past. In fact, the "glowing-eyed mimic" or "void-eyed mimic" cryptid originated from various Cirraling sightings.

They often come to the surface through bodies of water. For a variety of reasons, some may even wash up on shore. Those who choose to stay will almost always hide their identity, though they have been revealing themselves more and more as the years went by. The events of Octo Expansion lead to a wave of deep sea creatures who immigrated to the surface in search of new opportunities. By then, almost every Cirraling had stopped hiding their identity.

💕Solo/Sami headcanons

I feel like a LOT of my headcanons on Solo and Sami come from one specific fic on AO3- The Solo Man

I love Solo as being selectively mute and/or very shy. I haven't really gotten to explore this with Solo in my fics very much, but I'm really looking forward to doing so.

I do feel like Solo has such a soft spot for Sami (I mean I have eyes) Sami was a real source of kindness for him when he really didn't have that from anyone.

💕CM Punk/Drew McIntyre headcanons

oh noooo my brainrot lol

They're TOXIC as fuck, they bring out the worst in each other. I can't find anything sweet or soft in them, it's obsession, it's raw, it's violent. Possessive and Obsessive.

And they fuck nasty obviously. I tend to prefer Bottom Drew, something so fun about subverting their size difference but I'll eat up anything.

💕Samijey headcanons

Ahhhh I just love them- I feel like a lot of my headcanons POP out in my fics. I feel like Jey Uso is an acts of service guy. I think he does anything and everything to make sure that Sami feels taken care of. This shows up really early on in Devil in the Details and uhhh fun fact I wrote the first part of that fic before I knew that Sami was vegan, hence why there are SO many references to Jey cooking chicken for Sami. It was too integral to how I was having Jey show his affection to take it out, so for that one fic Sami is just no pork not vegan lol

Sami talks ALL the time, and Jey pretends to be annoyed but the constant stream of consciousness is actually so comforting to him. He very rarely has to worry about what Sami is thinking or feeling because he will just tell him.

Jey cut those crop tops so Sami would look at him.

“You really like my waist, huh?” he murmured.

As if to prove his point, Sami sank his teeth into the soft flesh under his bellybutton. “Can’t stop looking at it,” Sami whispered into his skin. “So fucking perfect. Those stupid crop tops are fucking killing me, dude.”

“Really? Hm, I thought so.”

Sami’s head shot up. “You knew?”

Jey blushed. “I guess, I kinda knew you were like… Looking. I guess I thought… Nevermind, this is fucking embarrassing.” He clapped his hands over his face.

“You thought what?” He felt Sami tugging at his fingers, and Jey reluctantly let his hands get pulled away. Sami had the worst look on his face, smug and bemused. Didn’t he know this was absolute torture?

“I don’t know, I thought maybe if I cut the shirts shorter, then like… You know… You’d look at me more,” Jey pushed out through clenched teeth. Scratch that, this was the worst look. Sami positively beamed, fondness radiating out from him in shameless sunshine rays. If he was a dog, he’d surely be wagging his tail like a maniac. Jey tried not to linger on that thought too long.

“Jesus you are so fucking cute,” Sami wheezed, burying his face into Jey’s chest.

Literally one of my favorite fics ever- I reread it all the damn time. (If the author of this fic is on here?? let me know pls & I'll tag you💖)

And I do think that Sami/Jey switch up who tops and bottoms, but I'm always here for bottom!Jey, sweet pillow princess.

💕Ambreigns headcanons

OO this is a good one- I typically go for Ambrolleigns (bc they all have two hands) or Ambrollins because of my donut sister @elementaldoughnut12 I feel like where Dean and Seth have that very turbulent high passion love, Dean and Roman have a level of like rock solid devotion?? Someone that they can always rely on, coming even closer together after everything fell apart with Seth.

Even more than Seth's betrayal, Dean leaving spurred on the creation of the Tribal Chief. Roman, alone and brokenhearted, left by the man who he thought would never leave him, turns himself into something cold and cruel. Makes himself monstrous, surrounds himself by a cheap copy of what they had.

He wants Dean back, wants it more than anything, but some part of him is terrified that Dean will reject him, will detest what he has become.

- What’s an accomplishment/ thing in your life you’re very proud of?

90k words posted on AO3 as of today has me feeling really good. I challenged myself at the beginning of the year to get to 100k by the end of 2024, but even where I'm at now... a year ago I would have laughed at you if you told me that. I've been writing in spits and spurts my whole life, but I really lacked confidence to do anything with my fanworks. I usually didn't even finish them. Before this last year, the most I had written was 2 NaNoWriMo attempts, both sat at around 25-30k and were never completed. And now with the all the support I've gotten here and on AO3, I've had the most creative period in my life. It makes me tear up thinking about it honestly.

My passion, my sense of humor, and my tits lol

- What makes you furious in fandom spaces (your fandom pet peeves so to say)?

The only pet peeve I really have is like being rude and giving people shit for what they like and don't like?? Like I've been around since the days of Don't Like, Don't Read. If you don't like something, it's not for you, it costs zero dollars to shut the fuck up.

Oh gosh, so many. I mean the first would definitely be Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon 💖💖 Daniel Radcliffe when I got a little older and realized I wasn't going to be able to marry a cartoon. Right now? I mean all of those hot Samoans first of all. Rhea Ripley, obv. Moxley.

Or, more accurately, you've done it! Thanks to you, my fellow Tumblrinas, I've actually managed to hit 200 followers!

I never thought I would get this far, but I'm eternally grateful for all the love you've given me, and I can't wait to share many more brainrots with you!

In tune with that, I've decided: Why not let you look even further into my mind? I've given you lots of writing, but why not provide some visuals? And so, in thinking about what I wanted to do for my 200 followers celebration, I came up with...

⁕ Evie's Mind Palace Festival! ⁕

(Placing a cut so this doesn't get too long ^^)

As depicted in this lovely graphic above, I'm going to be focusing on my OCs' fashion for this little event. But not just that! I'll get to the bonuses later :)

For now, text version! Because Tumblr likes not loading images and some people may not be able to view the image

↬ Step 1: Pick an OC of your choice! From my OCs, that is. Hope that was clear. Anyone from the list. I'll even throw in a little bonus and say that unintroduced OCs are allowed! That means the ones on this list AND ones I may have rambled to to you in a chat we've had.

↬ Step 2: Pick an occasion prompt! The prompts are as follows:

Casual (aka everyday wear, aka their basic character design or an alternate outfit or it)

Training/Athletic

Battle (this may overlap with either 1. or 3. for some characters, but let's assume they actually get geared up for battle)

Cultural - Please pick a culture for me to take inspiration from! It doesn't have to be a real-life culture. For example, you could pick Japan for some kimono art or you could pick the Kuja from One Piece!

Color prompt - Pick your color! I ask that you do keep it at one color so that I have some more freedom, and I won't take specific hex codes either because those specific hex codes might clash with the OC's color palette

Prompt of your choice - This can be literally anything! Yes, also an occasion, in which case it would replace your original occasion prompt. I just didn't have the space to add in all occasions known to man, so if you have another idea, this is where to put it.

↬ Step 4: Send your ask! Done!

Once you've sent your ask, please keep in mind that it might take me a while to answer it. I'll then make a collage/moodboard and get the ask posted. Maybe, I'll also draw your prompt, depending on if I have the energy and/or time for it. If I plan on doing that, I'll let you know in the post and tag you once I have the drawing finished! I may also be swayed into adding a little fic snippet to the answer, if I do feel so inclined. Maybe a song to match the vibes? It'll be a little surprise!

Silly Little Theory About Heartslabyul (Contains Mild Spoilers!)

Hello again :3

So I had this thought the other day after writing my theory about Cater (which you can read here if you're interested) about who the Heartslabyul characters are based on.

So all of the Heartslabyul kids (with the exception of Riddle) at first glance seem to be the card soldiers and nothing else – but I think most (if not all of them) have secondary inspirations on top of that, which is what I’ll be speculating on. It seems kind of unlikely that they would base an entire dorm, the largest and first one in the story no less, around what was essentially one ‘villain’. Because let’s be real, no one can name their favourite card soldier.

So in summary, this post is just Heartslabyul brainrot and some observations I've made - Note that I'm pretty far from a Disney expert, and this is all just speculation. Take it with a pinch of salt and enjoy :)

Trey Clover - King of Hearts

The reason that the King of Hearts comes to mind is because of the sort of mediator role both he and Trey play. In Alice in Wonderland, the King is very timid against the Queen and tries his best to calm her down without ever fully standing up to her. It’s clear he cares about her a lot, but is unwilling to call her out on her behaviour, only ever managing to barely fan the flames and clean up her messes (i.e. convincing her to hold a trial for Alice instead of outright beheading her).

This reflects most of Trey’s interactions with Riddle in chapter 1; He cares about him a lot (whether that be platonically or romantically, whatever floats your boat), but is too afraid to confront him about his actions. He tries his best to keep the dorm running smoothly under the oppression, always baking Riddle tarts and trying to talk him out of unnecessarily punishing students who break absurd rules. Don’t quote me on this because I can’t really remember, but I think he also tried to convince Riddle not to behead Ace at one point too???

Ace Trappola - Alice

A lot of people seem to agree that Ace draws some inspiration from Alice. From their names sounding similar, to their shared disregard for things and people they find annoying or unfair, it isn’t difficult to see why so many have come to this conclusion.

What’s more is that they both stood up to their rulers (The Queen and Riddle) and both have a penchant for sneaking off and getting into trouble. I’m referring to Ace’s ceremonial vignette, in which he grabs Epel and sneaks out of orientation in case that wasn’t clear. It’s also mentioned repeatedly that Ace has an older brother who teaches him a lot of things, much like Alice’s older sister does. They both do whatever they can to get out of things they don’t want to do – Alice snuck away from her lesson and Ace refused to clean windows. There’s probably a lot more, but that’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

Cater Diamond - Cinderella

Most people have already heard of this one before, so I’ll keep it brief. Cater shares some major parallels with Cinderella that aren't too hard to spot. Like I mentioned before, I wrote a small theory about Caterella which I linked earlier for anyone who wants to read it :D

Deuce Spade - I honestly have no idea

I’ve thought about it for ages and aside from his card soldier counterpart, I can’t think of anything that makes sense (T⌓T). If you have any theories or even any nonsensical, unorganized thoughts about who Deuce might be based on, please let me know :3

What are ur language hcs for Rody? I've seen ppl hc him speaking languages like Spanish, Italian, Portuguese or Dutch, so I'd like to know if there's any language u particularly like to hc him speaking. Also is there anything u want to say about the language Othenic that u made for ur last fic? Does it sound like any existing language or did u not put much thought into it?

OKAY

Simpler answer first-- When I wrote in the "othenic" language, I never really thought of phrases or words for it, it's just another lesser know language of the world. My head imagines to have a sort of heavier touch on consonants, like Maya or Nahuatl, and a certain speaking rhythm that would make it sound musical, similar to Irish or Italian. But no actual phrases.

I headcanon Otheon having its own language typically, with English as the sort of European tether (as I've noticed in european media. Most people have like conversational English down pretty early on). HOWEVER---

So, when I saw Otheon in WHM, I sort of gasped and teared up a little bit because it looks so similar to my city in Mexico. The colorful houses, the tin roofs, the mountainous region with trees.

To the left is Sierra Ventana, where one of my great grandmas lives. I visit her every time I go to Mexico (hold on I think I even have photos I took last summer because the Rodydeku brainrot had already gripped me by the throat)

So, of course I started projecting a lot of Mexican culture concepts onto Rody. That's why in "To End Up with You" he uses the phrase "Pampa nimitzlazohtla nochi no yollo." It's actual Nahuatl, one of the native tongues of Mesoamerica (the Aztecs, specifically). Like, yeah, he's European, but what if, y'know?

Okay, so now a deeper nosedive into my Rody Soul analysis.

I feel like we all forget that Rody was kinda rich before his dad was killed, so I think he managed to get a bit of schooling before they were run out. That makes me think that he had to be bi or trilingual at a young age, maybe not perfectly, but for sure enough to get by, especially on the streets.

Add to that the fact that a lot of europeans learn multiple languages because of how close so many other countries are to each other and how easy it is to travel between them (it's like an hour??? hello??? I drive an hour, I'm still in my fucking CITY).

I think I do kind of have Spanish and French as a given because of that, I mean they're very popular languages. And then Italian is pretty easy to comprehend if you know those two since the three are very intertwined and similar. Portuguese is super similar to Spanish as well, just with a throatier sound (like the French), so I think he'd at least be able to understand those at a surface level.

Of course, I headcanon he teaches himself Japanese because of Izuku, and since I'm teaching myself (with duolingo and some workbooks and music ksjfka), that's why I'm so specific about Rody being better about understanding when he hears it slowly, but not really being able to read Kanji much less write it. Also why Roro is a bit better at speaking it than Rody (living where the language is spoken really forces you to figure it out lmfao); he's had way more practice. Actually, if you pay attention, when Izuku describes Roro speaking, he describes it as proper, over-pronounced, and a bit choppy. But when Rody describes it, he considers it very flowy, even if it's not as fast as Izuku's. That was just the perspective since Izuku of course is a native speaker and Rody is just really fascinated with how quick his brother picked it up.

ALSO because English is a learned language in Otheon in my headcanon, I imagine that Rody also has an accent when speaking English!!!! And of course Izuku has one as well. I love accents. I love cultures. I love languages. And I love this couple because of how much I get to play with that, especially with expressions of affection, things lost in translation, creating a new language to let them say things. Like the Nahuatl Rody speaks, he describes as something you say to suggest a bond, a deep-rooted connection, etc. But the literal translation is "Te quiero con todo mi corazon" which, again, can't even be correctly translated into English since there's no word for "te quiero." Though the closest would be "I love you with my whole heart."

I also think Rody would love to learn other languages when he becomes a pilot, like at least enough to have a conversation even if he can't exactly read or write it, which is why I added Arabic and Hindi to the fic when he talks about languages. I think he'd want to get a good grasp on some of the most spoken languages in the world. I also think he'd like to learn Hebrew and Greek just because I think they're really pretty.

God, there's so many languages, and in a perfect world, he'd know them all at least a little, but ah well. I do think he'd really admire other languages, Dutch, German, Swahili, and all the ones that don't get quite as much love, you know?

It was almost entirely too bright and too damn loud in HQ with the beyond countless occupants roaming up, down, and sideways along the halls. Sometimes it was still crazy to think that all these people were the same more or less. The coolness of the metal cafeteria table presses against Jia's forehead as her breath mists the surface while she sat there, face down and eyes closed in a lifeless fashion. Ugh, why was it so bright. Maybe staying up and playing around on her computer wasn't a good idea after all. She inwardly rolls her eyes, her conscience nagging at her saying she says this all the time.

"Had enough, have we?"

Her head turns to the side, her cheek squishing against the metal. The familiar flash of stringed blue against bold red hovers beside her seat. A scoff escapes her. Her eyes close again.

"Shut up, man."

A low chuckle scratched against his throat as Hobie stuck a denim clad leg over the bench to sit down. His hands remain jammed into his jacket pocket as always, head leaning down slightly to face her.

"What's wrong with you?"

The hint of amusement in his words make he sit up, face buried in her hands while she rubbed her face against the fabric of her suit. A muffled groan of complaint pulls an entertained head tilt from Hobie. Opening up her face to the air again, she pressed her fingers into the side of her temples. Jia clicks her tongue with her eyes closed like she's trying to manifest away the dull throb in her head.

"Didn't sleep."

"Them little games of yours, is it?"

Damn him. Her eyebrow twitches. Sure it was true, but that didn't mean she wanted to hear it. Jia sits there in silence, refusing to answer in a petty manner. Why would she give him the satisfaction of being right? The pressure in her head makes her want to rip her skin off as she feels her patience boiling over.

Something warm pressed against between her eyebrows. Opening her eyes only to see a hand connected to the finger that had flattened the small crease and bump formed in her anguished contemplation. Her head turns as she follows the arm back to its owner. In her petulantly formed silence, Hobie seemed to have grown closer than before. He pulled his arm away to lean his chin towards it. Towards her.

"Stop scrunching your brows. Makes your headache worse, love."

...

Jia blinks at him. Hobie blinks back at her.

In some bizarre state of stunned confusion, it was almost like her headache was cured by another headache that sat in front of her. She gave him a confused expression, opening her mouth before shutting it again. If you squinted, you could almost see her scratching her head as she blankly looked at him. Eventually, she managed some form of coherent thought and opened her mouth again.

"Right. I see."

Jia spoke as if trying to fool herself into knowing how to react. Before she could overanalyse each phonetic, her name falls from somewhere near as familiar friend waves their greeting.

Beside her, Hobie raised a casual arm before his head turned to glance elsewhere. A carefully controlled breath heaved from his lungs. His face had grown hot. His neck felt itchy and stuffy with the usual choker seemingly throttling him as he felt it press against the pulsing of his heartbeat.

That was a mistake.

Hey Roddy. You've managed to give me mild brainrot for your BG3 characters.

How strong is Mae's patron, relative to the Courts? ...Uh, have you assigned them a gender yet? I should probably start there, actually. You mentioned that they run a bar or something, with a clientele that warrants a bouncer, that they have "enough" power to spare on a witch, and that they have either beef with or prejudice against hags.

I may as well just ask everything at once. What would you like to share about them?

Okay yeah let's talk about Mae's patron! Let's talk...a lot...about Mae's patron.

First. to contextualize everything about Mae's patron, let us circle all the way back to my "trial run" of BG3, where I played the first couple hours as a dwarf Ranger named Aisling, loosely based on the character I made in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town. We had a poll to decide her class. I promise there's a reason I'm bringing this up.

Later, discussing her with a friend, I said:

Put a pin in this one.

So. Rangers get to pick different Favored Enemy archetypes at the start. For Aisling, I picked "Sanctified Stalker: You swore to hunt the enemies of a holy or druidic order". My thought was that she came from a small farming sim town on the coast north of Baldur's Gate, and, since the player character in Pioneers of Olive Town is the only member of the community who can see the harvest sprites and the Spirit that watches over the lands, I figured that Aisling's role would be protecting both the town and the spirits from any danger - tie that in to the Sanctified Stalker archetype. Instead of a holy or druidic order, she has her town's nature spirits.

Then, after I set the game down because it ran like ass on the gaming laptop I had, I ended up crafting Mae through extensive conversation and shitpost with a different friend, and decided that I really liked the concept we had for her, and that I was going to set Aisling aside to play Mae. And we decided Mae was a warlock, and then I took to tumblr to make a poll to figure out the subclass, and you guys said Archfey, and I spent a little while chewing on Archfey thoughts with that friend.

And then I circled back to "the harvest spirit from Pioneers of Olive Town as an Archfey patron of a warlock", but with Mae this time instead of Aisling.

ALL OF THIS TO SAY: Mae's patron was ported over from a farming sim. I've elaborated on and spun her off into something new, and different, now, but if you know where she came from, you can see the influence.

Mae's patron doesn't have a name, but she goes by "The Lady of the Springs". Or actually, I want to call her "The Lady of the _____ Springs" and have an adjective in there, but I've never figured out what. Lady of the Blooming Springs. Lady of the Hollow Springs. Lady of the Lonely Springs. Lady of the Cold Springs. Maybe she changes it up based on the season. I don't know. So I haven't nailed that down totally. We'll call her The Lady.

She has a rather small domain in the Feywild - there's a supplement for dnd 5e about archfey and their domains, and it states "Generally, the size of a Domain of Delight is a good determiner of an archfey's power". (Generally. But we can do what we will.) The Lady isn't particularly powerful, but she's powerful enough that she doesn't have others encroaching on her domain.

She's carved out her little section of the Feywild, but she's also got an interest in the lands on the Material Plane that surround the crossing that lets one travel to her domain. That land, of course, includes Aisling's town and its surrounding farmland. The Lady bestows periodic gifts on the people and land, takes their offerings in return, and is generally treated as a local harvest deity by the townsfolk. She may have accidentally created a cult.

Mae lived most of her life in the Underdark, in Menzobarazzan, the drow capital, but about 20 years prior to BG3, she left with some other outcasts, escaped slaves, generally just some misfits, got hopelessly lost in the Underdark on their way out, and popped out like, hundreds upon hundreds of miles south of Menzobarazzan. Not too far from Baldur's Gate, a city Mae had heard about from the others, and thought might be a good place for a drow on the surface to go, keep her head down, scratch out a life.

On reaching the surface, Mae was immediately ditched by the rest of the group - she was kind of an asshole back then! - and struggled to make her way alone along the road, in the dead of winter. She was fortunate enough that when she started freezing to death, she was within the stretch of land that The Lady considered her own - and The Lady found her and basically said "hey, I'm guessing you want to live, yes? Let's make a deal."

And Mae was lucky that The Lady is pretty benevolent, as far as warlock patrons or fey go. Yes, she's petty and mercurial, as all fey are, but she does very much want to be the kindly local goddess who provides bountiful harvests and blessings to those under her care. She did not set out to create a cult but if maybe that's kinda what's happened, then that's kinda what's happened.

(As the warlock of an archfey who's worshiped in one little coastal town, Mae could probably get prophet status if she chose to live in ""Olive Town"" instead of Baldur's Gate. However, at the time she first made her pact, fresh on the surface and not having a great time, she figured it was a 50/50 split on whether the townsfolk would welcome her as someone connected to their fey protector, OR stone her to death as a dark elf who they assumed was coming to enslave their children and eat their elders. Rather than risk seeing how accepting a small, isolated town of humans and dwarves would be, she decided to chance the city instead. 20 years later, jury's still out on whether that was a good idea.)

The Lady doesn't run a bar, though. Mae works at a bar in Baldur's Gate, where her warlock spells and powers can help calm down the rowdier clientele - oh, some idiots getting up to something? Drop a Sleep spell on them. Mae is simultaneously a barmaid and a bouncer. She probably doesn't get paid extra for this.

Um, what else... Mae and The Lady have a good working relationship. The Lady calls Mae up maybe once or twice a year, whenever there's something going on - bandits on the road near her town, or poachers overhunting in her woods, or someone's prodding at her borders in the Feywild and she wants to send Mae to go check it out. The Lady very much hates hags - her tasks for Mae during the events of BG3 are "go kill that hag", "stay alive", and "go kill that hag." I have not decided whether Mae has tangled with hags before that, or if The Lady has had a hag-free 20 years with Mae around. Certainly I don't think The Lady would send her up against one alone.

And I don't think that The Lady - at present, anyway - has any other warlocks besides Mae. And Aisling's young, so she's probably been active as a ranger only a year or two before the game starts, and I don't think The Lady would have as direct contact with Aisling as she does with Mae. And while Mae and The Lady have a good working relationship, Mae would like that to only be a working relationship, while The Lady is like. I think she wants to be friends. She's pretty hands-off with "her people" - the townsfolk - and they mostly see the fruits of her blessings, not her herself, and something I've been chewing on is the idea that The Lady is lonely. She's made herself a looming, large figure over these people, and now she's alone up there. She climbed up on a pedestal and everyone beneath her kept raising her up higher and now she's like. wait. no. bring me back down.

What I'm saying is she's definitely just manifested in Mae's house in Baldur's Gate once or twice before and Mae's like. "hi. what the FUCK are you doing here."

The pact between the two of them is...pretty loose, very different from the dense legalese that devils tend to favor, and that looseness could be very bad for Mae if The Lady really wanted to take advantage of her. But, fortunately for Mae, that's not the case, and the two of them basically just vibe it out whenever they have to figure something out. Pact written in vibes and vaguery on the underside of a mushroom. And after 20 years, she and Mae understand each other pretty well. Mae trusts her, about the amount that Mae trusts anyone - she has very few friends at the start of the game, and at that point, The Lady is the person Mae has known the longest on the surface. Mae considers her too flighty and, well, fey to be 100% reliable, but Mae does trust her not to screw her over or be actively, intentionally, malicious. And in Baldur's Gate, that's sometimes the best you've got.

The bg3 fandom on here is more tiring than reddit sometimes ffs (which is pretty bad if you like the Emperor, weirdest hate boner for the squid on reddit, they are inventing their own headcanons contradicting canon to hate on him, lol).

Today I saw someone suggest just talking about Mystra and her point of view etc is condoning abuse and turning it into "juicy" content. It was just dev notes giving more insight, but just talking about that means you support abuse now. Even when the poster was not denying the abuse. I'm too old for this honestly, had my fill with DAI, not letting weirdos destroy my favourite childhood game series like this. Never been closer with the block button. I need a nap.

I didn't see the whole "condoning Mystra's abuse" post, but I did see the post about the devnotes and agree with your assessment on what OP's intentions were. No one should have to add a disclaimer that they don't support fictitious abuse. It genuinely feels like we're regressing back to 2013 tumblr where even trying to talk about the mage/templar conflict from DA in a nuanced capacity was viewed as supporting abuse (or being ableist).

I really do not know how to make anyone here on tumblr understand that none of this shit is serious. We're talking about a fictional story in a video game. This is so not serious. And yet we have people contriving drama over someone posting devnotes giving insight into Mystra's character and motivations.

Imo this kind of behavior epitomizes fandom brainrot. You have folks who spend too much time on here getting worked up over shit that genuinely does. not. matter. The best way to avoid becoming like this is to not be on here as much, and to occasionally talk to people about the kind of shit that happens on here. The latter of which I have to do because I sometimes feel fucking crazy reading some of the discourse on here. Lemme tell you: nothing will wise you up to how inconsequential this shit is like trying to explain any of it to your mother in law.

RE: The Emperor -- The response reminds me a lot of how people responded to L/0ghain in DAO. I wasn't apart of fandom when I first played the game. But my experience while playing the game was like..... I didn't really hate him because I understood where he was coming from. When he sent assassins after me I was like "That's fair" because I understood why he did it. Yeah it sucked and I think that what he was doing was wrong, but I didn't take it personally (if anything I thought it was funny lol).

When I joined tumblr, people talked about him like he stole their lunch money or something. And like, I get it. L/0ghain is a morally ambiguous guy and a lot of the shit he does is genuinely terrible. But to me.....he's not a real person. He's not real. None of the things he does in the story have real world impact because all of it is fictional. We do not have to take anything he does to heart. I seriously do not understand why so many people get worked up over this shit.

With the Emperor though....i feel a lot of the hate is really overblown and I have no idea why. I feel some of it might be sourced in disgust over being able to romance him and knowing there's people who enjoyed doing so. But that's just a vibe I'm getting from it all and not really based on anything I've seen so far.

But yeah, I stopped checking any of the tags for BG3 3 weeks ago because it seems that some people can't just let their shit opinion languish in the drafts.
