How did IOF supporters liked hiding behind walls of theoretical analyses on why it is extremely offensive and hurtful that people don't believe IOF lies about Oct 7 mass rapes and beheadings to distract from the fact that the IOF they support and get their information from secretly produced snuff films for the israeli population to enjoy? Oh also that said IOF was formed by i-kid-you-not-this-is-true extremely literal terrorist groups that committed the nakba in the first place. Guess that part was never important in the conversation about their "fight against terrorism" by bombing civilian infrastructure and ambulances to kill everyone in them and leaving premature babies to die etc idk. And you know who keeps funding this terrorism-committing ex-terrorist groups...

I woke up to the news about Refaat Alreer. I still feel cold. Imagine seeing someone talking on your TL every day, narrating what the genociders are doing, counting the dead and telling their stories, amplifying his colleagues in Palestinian activism and academia, advocating and pleading endlessly for a ceasefire, delivering blistering witticisms about Zionist propaganda and then...he and his whole family are dead.
Two of my favourite tweets by him, calling out the craven Western media for never naming Israel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It feels like a funeral today. My whole TL full of his students and Palestinians mourning Refaat alongside writers and journalists and academics from all over the Global South. The only people who matter to us is us.
Meanwhile, Zionists are attacking us under our mourning tweets, circulating the tweet where he laughed at the monstrous lie of Hamas cooking a baby in an oven during Oct 7th, one of the lies that fuelled the slaughter that eventually killed him too.
Tumblr media
This was his last tweet.
Tumblr media
USAmerican disability activist Imani Barbarin's tweet today was partially motivated by Refaat's death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I need to go offline for a while.
I leave you with Refaat's last poem that was his pinned tweet for over a month. When a storyteller dies, generations are robbed of universes. When a poet dies, the world loses a piece of its soul.
Tumblr media
You can find Refaat's book "Gaza Writes Back" in my gdrive folder of Palestinian literature. I don't know where the royalties will go now, but please also try and find it in a bookstore or library.

So i been seeing your post recently and...well.....do you not think whats hapening in palestine is a genocide?
No, I don't.
Firstly, the numbers of how many have died comes from Hamas. And I refuse to believe they can name every dead kid but can't name how many hostages are alive. And even if we humor the idea they're telling the truth, 30k is an INCREDIBLY small number in terms of conflicts like this and most likely includes Hamas fighters, who are dressed as civilians and of whom Hamas does not differentiate when counting these numbers, so the civilian death toll is far more likely to be around 15k, and that's a generous high-roll. It's also not really possible they'd mostly be women and children. Cuz if they were, this would mean either every man in Gaza is a Hamas fighter (unlikely) or most men in Gaza has somehow avoided death. An incredibly unlikely option, especially given Pro-Pals insistence that Israel is "carpet bombing" Gaza. If you're carpet bombing an area, it's not possible that adult men could almost all avoid death. XD that's just not possible.
Secondly, Hamas has been proven to be lying. They lied about Israel bombing a hospital pretty early (they claimed Israel bombed the hospital and 500 people died, but in truth, one of their missile misfired and hit the parking lot of the hospital they claim was hit), and ever since I have either seen multiple lies from Hamas or Pro-Pals claiming this building or that was destroyed, but a quick Google search of the building either provided oodles of proof it was not destroyed or that it wasn't even in fucking Gaza. I refuse to believe the side lying their asses off will be accurate when calling something a genocide. This doesn't mean I think Israel has never lied, but they have not engaged in nearly the same level of manipulation that Hamas and the Pro-Pal side have.
Thirdly, Hamas has been launching unguided missiles into Israel for over 20 years. This necessitated the Iron Dome, and Israel in the areas that were bombed even has alarms in every neighborhood and a bomb shelter in every house. Even so they have killed thousands over the years in this campaign of slaughter. They then capped this off with October 7th, a terror attack that claimed almost exclusively civilian lives. They raped, butchered, and even recorded themselves doing these things (which is of course ignored by Pro-Pals). They had journalists involved who warned no one and even posed with Hamas leaders and took pictures of themselves with grenades. Apparently there were even members of the UNRWA involved, tho I haven't seen full proof of that bit yet. This was a terror attack that killed 1400 people, innocent people who were just taking part in a music festival. Then they kidnapped over 230 more innocent people, all civilians, many of which weren't even Israeli's, and while yes they gave SOME back during the ceasefire for hostage exchange, they kept a lot of infants (yes, INFANTS) they took, separating them from their mothers, and didn't give back all the hostages, rejecting the offer to keep the ceasefire going in exchange for them all. And now, they won't even name how many as still alive!
And after this terror attack they retreated to Gaza, even taking some corpses of the people they killed, and went into underground tunnels so any reprise against them would hit innocent civilians. They even said on live TV that they view Gaza as a country of martyrs they're happy to sacrifice. And yet despite all of that, we get to point 4.
Fourthly, Israel warns people before attacking. This is unprecedented. Militaries the world over call it a stupid move, cuz tactics-wise, it is very fucking stupid since inevitably Hamas gets the warnings too. But Israel does it anyway in an attempt to prevent civilian deaths, with Hamas refusing to let a lot of the civilians evacuate so they don't die. And the ones that did? They followed them to Rafah, bringing hostages with them, making Rafah, by law, a military target.
Fifthly, Hamas steals the aid that gets in, Palestinians have even testified to this, forcing Gazan civilians to starve and get desperate. The most recent consequence of this is the "flour massacre" in which starving Gazans swarmed an aid truck, and the aid workers inside ran a lot of them over in a bid to escape. Pro-Pals of course spread the lie that Israel butchered them all.
And finally point 6, having to do with the hostages: Hamas lies about the hostages. They claim they're treated well, even forged a thank you letter. But one interview with a released hostage demonstrates that this is a blatant lie, the family of the hostage the letter was from even said it was a lie!
I refuse to believe a genocide is happening when all of this is true. People facing genocide don't engage in this level of manipulation. They don't take innocents hostage, rape them and kill their families and neighbors.
Yeah, Gaza military-wise is weak compared to Israel. And their government has no interest in protecting them whatsoever. But one side being weak does not make a war a genocide. One side's government choosing to hide in underground tunnels, launch missiles from civilian buildings, hide weapons and hostages in hospitals, schools, and children's bedrooms does not make it a genocide.
What is happening is awful and it needs to stop. but it's a war, not a genocide.

You know the West has something to win with Israel. They don't want Israel to stop, and they are fighting really hard to keep the narrative on their side. Every interview with the "DO you condemn Hamas?" question, every ban to protestors, to the palestine flag, the little coverage in some parts of the world. They want to keep their images clean to the world. They've done it so many times. It has worked for them before. The truth comes out, but mostly after the facts. It gets some air but is soon buried in another issue that is current, therefore more important to resolve.
This time around? Social media is fighting them for the narrative. Social media is given the chance to everyone in the world to see the truth in real time. Social media show us time and time again the hypocrisy and completely lack of morality of our leaders and organizations.
The only thing that matters to them is power and money.
Human life has never been of importance to them. Not even the life of their own citizens. WE KNOW THAT! They want us poor, they want us sick, they want us tired, and they want us numb. So we can't fight, so we can't raise our voices, so we are so tired of everything that we just go with the current. They give us enough to keep us quiet.
I'm not sure what to do except to call them what they are, genocides, criminals, immoral, to paint our own flags in blood, because they carried it, no matter how hard they try to hide it.
I'm tired of a world that keeps progressing for a few while covering our lands in blood and trying to present an image of righteousness.
I'm tired of the double standards. I'm tired of journalists that paint lies with words over the truth we see in lives taken, the utter betrayal they have committed against every journalist who have died in Gaza. I'm tired of the country that keeps talking to the world about freedom and justice, being once again behind horrible war crimes that they hope they will be able, as usual, to hide under the rug.
I'm tired, I'm so damn tired, but mostly I'm heartbroken that people are being killed in mass and every conscious person in the rest of the world is watching in real time and our only weapon is our voices. I'm also furious! So I guess I will keep screaming until I'm heard.

The truth of the matter is most of these bogus Israeli propaganda stories would not work unless majority of Western audiences already have a deeply racist/orientalist/islamophobic view of Palestinians and the general Muslim/Arab world.
In what other world would unsubstantiated claims of mass rape and beheaded babies be taken as fact unless the people amplifying such horrendous lies look at Palestinians as implicitly evil and inherently barbaric ? Everyone wants “nuance” and “discussion of the facts” unless it’s Palestinians.
“Beheading” was deliberate choice of misinformation btw. Conjuring up images of ISIS in Syria and Iraq to justify the slaughter and occupation. Its clear as day that anyone who has the intellectual capacity of a 5th grader and above that’s what the Israeli goal is.
you're so right. racism and islamophobia are very pivotal aspects of the western world's long-standing unwavering support of israel. the mainstream narrative according to which the palestinians are muslim terrorist barbarians on a quest to destroy the symbols, lives and values of western civilization is the ever present boogie man that the u.s.-controlled mass media will conjure at will to scare europeans and americans out of their wits. racist narrow-minded ignorant white christians won't even take the time to debunk half of those lies via other independent unbiased sources. they'll simply feel too scared to hear the "enemy's" side to the story. you'll never hear a counterpoint that's gonna be equally sympathetic and intellectually honest to palestine's cause and its losses in this unbalanced polluted environment where only one side gets to manipulate and dictate the narrative. and im sorry to say that racism and islamophobia explain most of the intentionally blind and intolerant attitude of the western society in this conflict. like. think about it. even the rave thing. it's been on international headlines for days now. heads of state, celebrities and spokespeople all over the world are outraged at the idea that white christian young men and women with similar values and upbringing as ours lost their lives while they were attending something as simple as a recreational event that we consider part of our daily lives and absolutely typical for a young european kid to attend. it struck a nerve with the international community because it reminded us of ourselves, of our own kids and friends and siblings. it could even have been us. hence the disproportionate outrage. palestine's overdue retaliation after decades of unlawful occupation and apartheid suddenly got personal as soon as europeans and americans were able to relate to the israelis who tragically died at a mundane social gathering. because we have started to see ourselves as the potential victims of that one particular attack. but why don't we register the same amount of personal wrath and public outcry when palestinians are constantly killed in unspecified circumstances by the israelis? as a matter of fact, this happens way more often than the other way around, like, statistically. then why don't we feel like it's such a huge loss of life and potential? well, because those lives looked nothing like us and the mainstream prejudiced zionist islamophobic narrative did nothing to make us think otherwise or to compel us to show other ethnic groups some semblance of empathy.

In cities across the globe, people closed their shops, staged pickets, avoided commerce, and participated in marches as part of a global strike for Palestine on December 11. The call for a global general strike was launched by Palestinian civil society as Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza entered the third month, with Israel showing no signs of letting up.
From Istanbul to Brussels, entire blocks of stores could be seen shuttered in response to the global call to not engage in business as usual. An image went viral of a Turkish man kissing the Palestinian flag on the streets of Istanbul.
In the West Bank, Palestinians utilized their long tradition of general strikes and shut down public transport, universities, and local shops.
The people in Western nations, whose governments serve as the principal bastion of support for Israel, also hit the streets en masse on December 11 for the global strike.
In New York City, hundreds picketed outside of the New York Times building, in protest of the mainstream outlet’s pro-Zionist media coverage. Picketers chanted “everytime the media lies, a neighborhood in Gaza dies!”
Later in the afternoon, activists with Al Awda – NY protested outside the US mission to the United Nations and marched to the Jewish National Fund, a key zionist fundraising institution that actively aids Israel in the forced displacement of Palestinians from their land and the destruction of Palestinian land and property.
In Washington DC, a group of over 100 activists were arrested while occupying the lobby of the US Senate, with a few climbing the massive sculpture titled “Mountains and Clouds” to hang a banner. This action happened simultaneously to Congress debating Biden’s USD 106 billion spending package for Israel and Ukraine. These demonstrators sprinkled red-soaked fake money labeled “blood” money, with Joe Biden’s face printed on each bill, throughout the lobby. Protesters chanted “Not another nickel, not another dime, no more money for Israel’s crimes,” as they were dragged away by police.
In Philadelphia, thousands of protesters gathered outside of Joe Biden’s fundraiser with signs that read “Biden has blood on his hands.”
In Montreal, Canada, demonstrators occupied the offices of Israel’s largest shipping company, ZIM, displaying a banner that read “war crimes start at ZIM.” ZIM has been challenged by pro-Palestine demonstrators across the globe, such as in Italy, where trade unionists shut down ports to prevent weapons transport through ZIM.
In Manchester, England, thousands marched for Palestine and took part in actions including occupying a Puma store, a brand which has been targeted by the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement for sponsoring the Israel Football Association.

You should get one! They're really relaxing and you might fall asleep but depending on where you go(I know you obviously live in a different country than mine but I've heard most places do this), look for bundles or package deals so you can get a facial and maybe a massage in one 👀. Like they might say a facial and add in the details of you getting a massage while your face is covered depending on the facial. Recommend a Korean, Japanese spa or an East Asian spa specifically 👀 I love ASMR so ASMR Twix(I think that's the correct name) has a channel dedicated to spas.
Also I love that you're supporting Palestine on here, I've seen so many people say "educate yourself," when supporting Israel that it all just disgusts me.
Anyway hope this wasn't annoying Hun 🙃 you deserve to be pampered and relax 🥺😌 stay safe I love you!❤️💖
this is the one i'm looking at getting, this is. a nice older lady in my area who has only 5 star reviews so i might book it around Christmas or my birthday to treat myself!
Tumblr media
and my favourite ASMR is Calm Moon ASMR on youtube i love her so much!!
i think whats happening to Palestine right now is disgusting and. the lies being spread to justify genocide makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. i did not spend most of my high school education learning about the holocaust just to watch another genocide happen live in my lifetime and do nothing. it's so gross. I may not post about it all the time but i want everyone to know where i stand. no one should ever be forced from their homes, murdered or raped for their religious beliefs, skin colour or where they were born. i wish there was more that I could do to help but until then I will share posts, donate when i can, buy the books and games that support Palestinians and never forget the names of the people who died. fuck anyone proudly calling for this genocide to continue

The west continues to support the slaughter in Palestine while the free world continues to try and achieve peace while supporting the resistance against the oppresion
The post is machine translated
Translation is at the bottom
The collective is on telegram
一 La disgustosa ipocrisia dell'Occidente verso i musulmani, chi bombarda "difende i diritti umani", chi promuove la Prosperità li "viola" - Parte 1 😡
二 La disgustosa ipocrisia dell'Occidente verso i musulmani, chi bombarda "difende i diritti umani", chi promuove la Prosperità li "viola" - Parte 2 😡
🇨🇳 La Cina, ha dichiarato Zhang Jun, esorta Israele a:
一 Dare ascolto all'Appello della Comunità Internazionale, cessando di reprimere e violare il Diritto Internazionale 👏
二 Porre fine immediatamente ai suoi attacchi indiscriminati, che rappresentano una punizione collettiva imposta alla Popolazione di Gaza 🇵🇸
三 Frenare immediatamente la crescente violenza dell'IDF negli insediamenti in Cisgiordania 🇵🇸
🌸 Iscriviti 👉 @collettivoshaoshan 😘
🥰 巴勒斯坦万岁 | IMPLEMENT THE "CEASEFIRE", CONDEMN THE DOUBLE STANDARD OF WESTERN COUNTRIES 👏
🇨🇳 Comrade Zhang Jun - Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, continues to promote the precious Chinese Diplomatic Work on the Resolution of the Conflict between Israel and Palestine, receiving the support of hundreds of countries, including Arab and Muslim ones 🤝
🇮🇱 Faced with the continuous Israeli bombings, faced with the extermination of children, there are very few countries that still refuse the promotion of a "Ceasefire" and the opening of a Humanitarian Corridor in Gaza 🇵🇸
🇺🇸 These, of course, are the USA, Israel, and some bootlicking countries of American imperialism 🤮
🇺🇳 On 12 December 12, the United Nations General Assembly adopted, with 153 countries in favour, and only 10 against, together with 23 abstentions, a Resolution which expressly calls for a "Ceasefire" in Gaza 🇵🇸
🇨🇳 China, which has been promoting a "Ceasefire" since day one, welcomed the Resolution. It, as underlined by Zhang Jun, reflects the Common Aspiration of the World in splendid light, and must be fully implemented:
💬 «In recent days, we have once again witnessed clear double standards, and total hypocrisy in the management of the Israel-Palestinian issue: the beautiful slogans such as "human rights", "humanitarianism" and "protection of women and children" by some countries have suddenly taken on a new meaning. Even the "Ceasefire" [...] seems to be a bitter pill" 👏
🇺🇸 The vile American imperialists and their toadies are used to politicizing and making unfounded accusations of "human rights violations", while perpetrating unheard of crimes for decades. From lies about Xinjiang, Xizang, Hong Kong for China to the ridiculous lies against Russia and Iran 😡
🤮 The US imperialists and their toadies are masters of applying the dangerous principle of “blame the other for what you are guilty of”, and while promoting anti-China lies about non-existent genocides, they provide support in every aspect to Israel 😡
😍 Comrades, friends of China - we recommend reading these two contents of Collective Shaoshan:
一 The disgusting hypocrisy of the West towards Muslims, those who bomb "defend human rights", those who promote Prosperity "violate" them - Part 1 😡
二 The disgusting hypocrisy of the West towards Muslims, those who bomb "defend human rights", those who promote Prosperity "violate" them - Part 2 😡
🇨🇳 China, declared Zhang Jun, urges Israel to:
一 Heed the Call of the International Community, ceasing to repress and violate International Law 👏
二 Immediately put an end to its indiscriminate attacks, which represent a collective punishment imposed on the People of Gaza 🇵🇸
三 Immediately curb the growing IDF violence in West Bank settlements 🇵🇸
🌸 Subscribe 👉 @collectivoshaoshan 😘

"I thought nothing would surprise me. But many things did," she said. The physician told the story of trying to save the life of a 2½-year-old West Bank boy accidentally run over by his father. They rushed the boy to an Israeli hospital, providing treatment along the way.
"Despite all our efforts," she remembered, "the boy died. When I asked this father if he would donate any of his son's organs to another child, he said: 'Only to an Arab Palestinian child, not to an Israeli Jewish child.'"
This was a father who had just seen the enormous effort that Israeli Jews had undertaken to save his son's life; it was a very dramatic and emotional moment. Old prejudices might have died on the spot, at least momentarily. Instead, this man's Jew and Israel hatred kicked in immediately. The doctor was stunned by the sudden appearance of such "political realities."
This is the kind of psychological enemy Israel is up against. And then there are the Palestinian terrorist leaders, who indoctrinate their own people and use them to carry out terrorist attacks against civilian Israelis. This fact is minimized by Western media and global leaders.
Given the world's diabolical double standards, Israeli soldiers stand accused of atrocities they did not commit, while Palestinian terrorists—Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Palestinian Liberation Organization, Fatah, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine—who torture, kidnap, hijack, use human shields, including children, are still viewed as innocent victims.
Contrary to public opinion, the IDF is exceptionally ethical, and military leaders from other countries have attested to it. Israeli soldiers are haunted by any accidental civilian deaths and grief-stricken by the deaths of their own comrades. Unlike the Palestinian terrorist leaders, they do not glorify death and they mourn each life lost in necessary battle. This must be said, not once, but over and over again to counter the monstrous propaganda against Israel.

So far Israel has bombed in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and now Yemen (and of course all areas of Palestine) but still claim to be the victim. It's even more sickening when Western countries and media repeat these asinine lies with a straight face.

Omgg Jewish genocide?? What about Palestinians genocide?? Why do YALL not care that 8k kids died BABIES DIED BECAUSE OF ISRAEL MISSILES 1.9 millions ppl displaced when Palestine wins the Jews will live in a state of Palestine or will go back to where they came from the war criminals will be punished and the innocent Jews will live in Palestine just like they did pre 1948 where the Palestinians population consisted of 4% Jewish ppl 11% Christians and the rest muslims but yh yall ignore the current Palestine genocide and are scared of something that will not happen but again it's your opinion so stop bringing others and calling Muslims terrorists
First, we can't trust that that many children died in Gaza. Those numbers come from sources within Gaza, which have been proven time and time again to be lying.
Second, you're truly delusional if you think Hamas, who openly declares their intent to kill all Jews, will let them live in OR leave a destroyed Israeli state converted into Palestine. Most of them would be killed during the destruction of Israel, with any that didn't manage to flee being subjected to horrors we'd equate to the Holocaust.
And all the while, no doubt, idiots like you will ignore their genocide, taking whatever lies they spread about how it's all fine and dandy as truth. Or worse cheer on the bloodshed cuz now the "right" people are dying.
Thirdly, you wanna whataboutism the Jewish genocide, but Hun, you have never given a shit about Jewish people being killed. Shit, you don't give a shit about innocents dying at all, it's just a convenient thing to point to for you. If you did care, even a little, you would want Hamas destroyed. And you sure as hell wouldn't lie that the Jewish would be all fine and dandy in a Hamas-run Palestinian State that followed the destruction of Israel, something that would require the death of millions of Jews.

Patriarchs and Prophets, pp. 697-702: Chapter (69) David Called to the Throne
This chapter is based on 2 Samuel 2 to 5:5.
The death of Saul removed the dangers that had made David an exile. The way was now open for him to return to his own land. When the days of mourning for Saul and Jonathan were ended, “David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And He said, Unto Hebron.”
Hebron was twenty miles north from Beersheba, and about midway between that city and the future site of Jerusalem. It was originally called Kirjath-arba, the city of Arba, the father of Anak. Later it was called Mamre, and here was the burial place of the patriarchs, “the cave of Machpelah.” Hebron had been the possession of Caleb and was now the chief city of Judah. It lies in a valley surrounded by fertile hill country and fruitful lands. The most beautiful vineyards of Palestine were on its borders, together with numerous plantations of olive and other fruit trees.
David and his followers immediately prepared to obey the instruction which they had received from God. The six hundred armed men, with their wives and children, their flocks and herds, were soon on the way to Hebron. As the caravan entered the city the men of Judah were waiting to welcome David as the future king of Israel. Arrangements were at once made for his coronation. “And there they anointed David king over the house of Judah.” But no effort was made to establish his authority by force over the other tribes.
One of the first acts of the new-crowned monarch was to express his tender regard for the memory of Saul and Jonathan. Upon learning of the brave deed of the men of Jabesh-gilead in rescuing the bodies of the fallen leaders and giving them honorable burial, David sent an embassy to Jabesh with the message, “Blessed be ye of the Lord, that ye have showed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him. And now the Lord show kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness.” And he announced his own accession to the throne of Judah and invited the allegiance of those who had proved themselves so truehearted.
The Philistines did not oppose the action of Judah in making David king. They had befriended him in his exile, in order to harass and weaken the kingdom of Saul, and now they hoped that because of their former kindness to David the extension of his power would, in the end, work to their advantage. But David's reign was not to be free from trouble. With his coronation began the dark record of conspiracy and rebellion. David did not sit upon a traitor's throne; God had chosen him to be king of Israel, and there had been no occasion for distrust or opposition. Yet hardly had his authority been acknowledged by the men of Judah, when through the influence of Abner, Ishbosheth, the son of Saul, was proclaimed king, and set upon a rival throne in Israel.
Ishbosheth was but a weak and incompetent representative of the house of Saul, while David was pre-eminently qualified to bear the responsibilities of the kingdom. Abner, the chief agent in raising Ishbosheth to kingly power, had been commander-in-chief of Saul's army, and was the most distinguished man in Israel. Abner knew that David had been appointed by the Lord to the throne of Israel, but having so long hunted and pursued him, he was not now willing that the son of Jesse should succeed to the kingdom over which Saul had reigned.
The circumstances under which Abner was placed served to develop his real character and showed him to be ambitious and unprincipled. He had been intimately associated with Saul and had been influenced by the spirit of the king to despise the man whom God had chosen to reign over Israel. His hatred had been increased by the cutting rebuke that David had given him at the time when the cruse of water and the spear of the king had been taken from the side of Saul as he slept in the camp. He remembered how David had cried in the hearing of the king and the people of Israel, “Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? ... This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the Lord liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the Lord's anointed.” This reproof had rankled in his breast, and he determined to carry out his revengeful purpose and create division in Israel, whereby he himself might be exalted. He employed the representative of departed royalty to advance his own selfish ambitions and purposes. He knew that the people loved Jonathan. His memory was cherished, and Saul's first successful campaigns had not been forgotten by the army. With determination worthy a better cause, this rebellious leader went forward to carry out his plans.
Mahanaim, on the farther side of Jordan, was chosen as the royal residence, since it offered the greatest security against attack, either from David or from the Philistines. Here the coronation of Ishbosheth took place. His reign was first accepted by the tribes east of Jordan, and was finally extended over all Israel except Judah. For two years the son of Saul enjoyed his honors in his secluded capital. But Abner, intent upon extending his power over all Israel, prepared for aggressive warfare. And “there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.”
At last treachery overthrew the throne that malice and ambition had established. Abner, becoming incensed against the weak and incompetent Ishbosheth, deserted to David, with the offer to bring over to him all the tribes of Israel. His proposals were accepted by the king, and he was dismissed with honor to accomplish his purpose. But the favorable reception of so valiant and famed a warrior excited the jealousy of Joab, the commander-in-chief of David's army. There was a blood feud between Abner and Joab, the former having slain Asahel, Joab's brother, during the war between Israel and Judah. Now Joab, seeing an opportunity to avenge his brother's death and rid himself of a prospective rival, basely took occasion to waylay and murder Abner.
David, upon hearing of this treacherous assault, exclaimed, “I and my kingdom are guiltless before the Lord forever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner. Let it rest on the head of Joab; and on all his father's house.” In view of the unsettled state of the kingdom, and the power and position of the murderers—for Joab's brother Abishai had been united with him—David could not visit the crime with just retribution, yet he publicly manifested his abhorrence of the bloody deed. The burial of Abner was attended with public honors. The army, with Joab at their head, were required to take part in the services of mourning, with rent garments and clothed in sackcloth. The king manifested his grief by keeping a fast upon the day of burial; he followed the bier as chief mourner; and at the grave he pronounced an elegy which was a cutting rebuke of the murderers. “The king lamented over Abner, and said:
“Died Abner as a fool dieth? Thy hands were not bound, Nor thy feet put into fetters: As a man falleth before wicked men, So fellest thou.”
David's magnanimous recognition of one who had been his bitter enemy won the confidence and admiration of all Israel. “All the people took notice of it, and it pleased them: as whatsoever the king did pleased all the people. For all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner.” In the private circle of his trusted counselors and attendants the king spoke of the crime, and recognizing his own inability to punish the murderers as he desired, he left them to the justice of God: “Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel? And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: the Lord shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.”
Abner had been sincere in his offers and representations to David, yet his motives were base and selfish. He had persistently opposed the king of God's appointment, in the expectation of securing honor to himself. It was resentment, wounded pride, and passion that led him to forsake the cause he had so long served; and in deserting to David he hoped to receive the highest position of honor in his service. Had he succeeded in his purpose, his talents and ambition, his great influence and want of godliness, would have endangered the throne of David and the peace and prosperity of the nation.
“When Saul's son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands were feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.” It was evident that the kingdom could not long be maintained. Soon another act of treachery completed the downfall of the waning power. Ishbosheth was foully murdered by two of his captains, who, cutting off his head, hastened with it to the king of Judah, hoping thus to ingratiate themselves in his favor.
They appeared before David with the gory witness to their crime, saying, “Behold the head of Ishbosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and the Lord hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.” But David, whose throne God Himself had established, and whom God had delivered from his adversaries, did not desire the aid of treachery to establish his power. He told these murderers of the doom visited upon him who boasted of slaying Saul. “How much more,” he added, “when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth? And David commanded his young men, and they slew them.... But they took the head of Ishbosheth and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.”
After the death of Ishbosheth there was a general desire among the leading men of Israel that David should become king of all the tribes. “Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.” They declared, “Thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the Lord said to thee, Thou shalt feed My people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel. So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and King David made a league with them in Hebron before the Lord.” Thus through the providence of God the way had been opened for him to come to the throne. He had no personal ambition to gratify, for he had not sought the honor to which he had been brought.
More than eight thousand of the descendants of Aaron and of the Levites waited upon David. The change in the sentiments of the people was marked and decisive. The revolution was quiet and dignified, befitting the great work they were doing. Nearly half a million souls, the former subjects of Saul, thronged Hebron and its environs. The very hills and valleys were alive with the multitudes. The hour for the coronation was appointed; the man who had been expelled from the court of Saul, who had fled to the mountains and hills and to the caves of the earth to preserve his life, was about to receive the highest honor that can be conferred upon man by his fellow man. Priests and elders, clothed in the garments of their sacred office, officers and soldiers with glittering spear and helmet, and strangers from long distances, stood to witness the coronation of the chosen king. David was arrayed in the royal robe. The sacred oil was put upon his brow by the high priest, for the anointing by Samuel had been prophetic of what would take place at the inauguration of the king. The time had come, and David, by solemn rite, was consecrated to his office as God's vicegerent. The scepter was placed in his hands. The covenant of his righteous sovereignty was written, and the people gave their pledges of loyalty. The diadem was placed upon his brow, and the coronation ceremony was over. Israel had a king by divine appointment. He who had waited patiently for the Lord, beheld the promise of God fulfilled. “And David went on, and grew great, and the Lord God of hosts was with him.” 2 Samuel 5:10.

God told Daniel to seal up the vision
Of all the prophecies in the book of Daniel, the one in chapter 8 has been most misunderstood. Just look into the commentaries on this chapter. Many churches admit they do not understand it. But God has now revealed the full meaning behind this fascinating chapter. Understanding Daniel 8 will make Bible prophecy come alive!
In verse 26, God told Daniel to seal up the vision, “for it relates to the far future” (Moffatt). It was not to be understood until the end time because that is when it was to be fulfilled. Notice verse 17: “… Understand, O son of man, that the vision is for the time of the end” (Revised Standard Version).
Now is the time of the end! Let’s understand this vitally important, end-time prophecy.
Verse 1 dates when the prophecy was written. Daniel recorded the vision in the third year of the reign of Belshazzar— 550 b.c. He was at Shushan, at the palace in the province of Elam (verse 2).
The vision begins in verse 3: “Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last. I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great” (verses 3-4).
Just what is this mysterious ram referred to in verse 3? God reveals the answer in verse 20: “The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.” Daniel lived during the time of the first world-ruling empire—Babylonia. This prophecy begins by discussing the next major empire—the Medo-Persian Empire. The Medo-Persian Empire destroyed the Babylonian Empire in 539 b.c. and ruled until 331 b.c.
Verse 5 continues the prophecy: “And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.” Who or what is this he goat, and what does the “notable horn” represent? Again, the Bible interprets itself. Continue in verse 21: “And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.” How clear! The goat represents the Greco-Macedonian Empire, and the notable horn stands for its first king—Alexander the Great. Alexander’s empire overwhelmed the Medo-Persians in 331 b.c., just as verses 6 and 7 prophesied!
Continue in verse 8: “Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and [in its place] came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.” The horn that represented the first Grecian king, Alexander, was suddenly broken. Alexander the Great, at the height of his power, died of fever suddenly while in Babylon. He was only 33 years old.
Verse 22 reveals what was to happen after Alexander’s death: “Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.” After Alexander died in 323 b.c., his kingdom was divided into four major parts, none of which were as strong as Alexander’s empire.
Keep in mind the time sequence as we proceed. Daniel recorded the vision in 550 b.c., while the Babylonian Empire ruled. It was destroyed in 539 b.c. by the Medo-Persians, who were then crushed by the Grecians in 331 b.c. Alexander died in 323 b.c. So the rest of this prophecy in Daniel could not have been fulfilled before 323 b.c.
The Little Horn
Let’s continue the prophecy in Daniel 8:9: “And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.” Some say this little horn arose before Alexander’s empire. But that’s impossible. It came forth out of the four divisions of the Grecian Empire. Whatever this horn is, it came on the scene after Alexander the Great, after the four divisions of his empire.
First, so there is no confusion, this is not referring to the little horn mentioned in Daniel 7:8. That little horn rose up in the midst of the other horns. In Daniel 8:9, the little horn springs up out of one of the four horns from Alexander’s empire.
Virtually all commentaries agree on who this little horn in Daniel 8 is: Antiochus Epiphanes. He came up out of one of the four divisions and, in a sense, bridged the gap between the Greco-Macedonian Empire and the Roman Empire. Antiochus was a ruthless dictator who, through deceitful lies and flatteries, obtained rule in Palestine in 176 b.c. He was responsible for setting up the abomination of desolation. In 168 b.c., Antiochus pillaged and desecrated the Jews’ temple in Jerusalem. Greek historian Polybius observed that he “despoiled most sanctuaries.” He also burdened the Jews with unbearable taxes. “Throughout the turbulent changes of its past history,” wrote Werner Keller in The Bible as History, “Israel had been spared none of the horror and ignominy which could befall a nation. But never before, neither under the Assyrians nor under the Babylonians, had it received such a blow as the edict issued by Antiochus Epiphanes by which he hoped to crush and destroy the faith of Israel” (see also 1 Maccabees 1:44, Jewish history).
This prophecy in Daniel also applies to an end-time Antiochus. His goal will be to crush the faith of spiritual Israel—God’s Church.
There is also an end-time abomination of desolation, as prophesied here in Daniel 8 and in Matthew 24 and Luke 21. This we have known for many years. But what we have not understood is the spiritual dimension to this prophecy.
As we have already noted, the last part of Daniel 8:17 reads, “Understand, O son of man, that the vision is for the time of the end” (rsv). While there certainly is a historical fulfillment to this passage, most of it is to occur in our time today. Verse 23 verifies this: “And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full ….”
End-Time Antiochus
This whole vision is about an evening and morning sacrifice in the temple. The temple, today, is God’s Church (Ephesians 2:20-21). So the whole vision, as we shall see, is mainly about God’s Church! We have always taught that Antiochus is a type of one who will rule the resurrected Roman Empire in this end time. But he is also a type of one who would rule in God’s end-time Church!
Anciently, Antiochus went to Jerusalem and desecrated the temple first. Afterward, he ransacked the whole city. It’s important that we understand this critical time sequence.
“Yea, he magnified himself even to [margin reads ‘against’] the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered” (Daniel 8:11-12). There are several things to note here. Verse 11 is speaking in military terms. Someone, somewhere, has the gall to take on Jesus Christ, our military Commander. Only Satan could motivate a man to operate so boldly.
Verse 12 says an army was given to Satan “against the daily.” By him the “daily” was taken away. Just as in Daniel 12:11, “sacrifice” is in italics and should be left out of the translation. Anciently, the daily sacrifice was offered in the temple. Today, the temple is the Church—so, again, the daily in prophecy refers to the sacrifice, or work, of the Church.
Notice, here the daily is taken away because of transgression. So this is a different event than in Daniel 12:11, where there is a “daily” taken away because of righteousness—to the place of safety. Also, in Daniel 12 an end-time Antiochus violently shatters the power of the holy people. But here in Daniel 8, he subtly comes to the temple with flatteries.
Daniel 8 is discussing transgression, truth being cast to the ground—a satanic host practicing and prospering at destroying the daily—all from within the sanctuary, God’s own Church. This is not the destruction to occur in the Tribulation. It’s going on within the Church before the Tribulation. Inside the Church, a man is acting like God, magnifying himself even to the prince of the host, casting truth to the ground. Satan is behind him. This man took away the daily—the continual—the Work of God.
The word transgression in verse 12 means revolt, rebellion, sin against lawful authority. The daily was taken away because of sin. The Church of God was attacked from within. It doesn’t say the Church died or that the Work ended. The Work was just temporarily stopped because of sin. Satan, in a warlike expedition (like Antiochus anciently), took away the daily. He destroyed the faith of God’s people to do God’s Work—the same goal Antiochus had anciently!
“Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?” (verse 13). In other words, how long shall the daily—the Work of God—be suspended?
2,300 Sacrifices
The answer is in Daniel 8:14: “And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” The King James is not the best translation for this verse. The Revised Standard Version says, “For two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings” (see margin of kjv). Not 2,300 days—2,300 evenings and mornings. Verse 26 even calls this the vision of the “evening and the morning.” Leviticus 6:9 and 12 show that the daily sacrifice was offered in the evening and in the morning.
The meaning of this prophecy is clear: The daily was to stop, because of sin, for 2,300 evening and morning sacrifices. As Mr. Armstrong always taught, since the sacrifices were offered twice a day anciently, the duration is actually 1,150 days. At the end of 1,150 days, “then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” The word cleansed at the end of the verse means to be made right, straight, true, just or righteous. The Revised Standard Version says the sanctuary “shall be restored to its rightful state.” When? After 1,150 days from the time it was taken away because of sin.
Remember, here in Daniel 8, Satan takes away the daily because of sin. In Daniel 12:11, God takes it away because of righteousness when the Tribulation begins. The stoppage in God’s Work here in Daniel 8 actually occurs well before the Tribulation begins. The question is, when did Satan take away the daily because of sin, and when did the 1,150 days end?
The Man of Sin
2 Thessalonians 2 reveals when the 1,150 days began. It is a parallel passage to Daniel 8:10-12. The brethren in Thessalonica had been shaken by dissident literature and lies about Christ’s return. Paul wrote to clear up the confusion. “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God” (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4). Malachi’s Message irrefutably proves that the temple of God is the Church in this end time—meaning this man of sin infiltrated the Church of God through craft and deceit, just as Antiochus did to the Jews anciently. This end-time man of sin exalts, or magnifies, himself above God, not by words necessarily, but by his actions. His primary mission is to stop the daily and cast God’s truth to the ground—but all in the name of “love” and “peace.”
“Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time” (verses 5-6). This sinful leader would have emerged sooner had it not been for a restraint, as it says in the Revised Standard Version. Someone held this man back. “For the mystery of iniquity [or sin] doth already work: only he who now letteth [or restrains] will let [restrain], until he be taken out of the way” (verse 7). Someone restrained this man of sin. Then the man who did the restraining was taken out of the way.
Those familiar with Herbert W. Armstrong and his writings know that over the course of his ministry he suppressed and restrained numerous rebellions and betrayals—especially during the 1970s when dozens of ministers, including his own son, had to be put out of the Church. Liberals wanted to water down God’s truth while Mr. Armstrong was away from headquarters visiting world leaders.
Shortly before his death in 1986, even though the Work had grown abundantly for seven years, Mr. Armstrong still perceived a liberal undercurrent within the Church. He even said there were those who, like vultures, wanted him to die so they could take over the Church!
Then, on Jan. 16, 1986, Mr. Armstrong was taken out of the way. On that day, the great spiritual war of Daniel 8 began. On that day, Satan began working mainly through one man, systematically dismantling and casting to the ground the truth that Mr. Armstrong had taught.
The 1,150 Days
This spiritual destruction has been well documented—even admitted to by those who have worked so hard to destroy any last vestige of Mr. Armstrong’s lifelong work. On Jan. 16, 1986, the daily was taken away, signaling the beginning of the 1,150 days.
Using Jan. 16, 1986, as our beginning point makes Saturday, March 11, 1989, the end of the 1,150 days. I was fired from the Worldwide Church of God on Dec. 7, 1989, for upholding what Mr. Armstrong taught. That was nearly nine months after the 1,150 days ended. I was fired for what I had been writing in my manuscript later printed as Malachi’s Message. And I had been working on the manuscript for nearly nine months! Though I do not remember the exact date God began revealing Malachi’s Message to me, it is safe to say that it was on or around March 11, 1989. Malachi’s Message exposed the great treachery and deceit going on within the Church at that time. It showed how the Work had been stopped because of sin—a “man of sin.”
God always starts things small (see Zechariah 4:10). Christ compared His Kingdom to a mustard seed, which is the smallest of seeds, but when fully grown, greatest among herbs (Matthew 13:31-32). On March 11, 1989, God began to cleanse the sanctuary. True, it began with just me. But doesn’t God always work through one man? God revealed Malachi’s Message to one man. Over the course of 1989, He did that—to me. Then on December 7, my assistant, John Amos, and I were summoned to Pasadena, California, where we were summarily fired from the ministry and excommunicated from the Worldwide Church of God because of Malachi’s Message. And just look at what God has done since—even after a most humble beginning. Where is the daily today? Which group continues with Mr. Armstrong’s work? For those with eyes to see, it is clear. Mr. Armstrong’s work has been revived. His work was stopped, but it did not die—thanks to what God has done through the Philadelphia Church of God. God has cleansed the sanctuary. He has cleansed those who have been willing to be measured.
The Host
We need to clearly understand the meaning of the word host. “And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land” (Daniel 8:9). The little horn is Antiochus. Again, this is a type of the coming leader of the Holy Roman Empire. But it is also a type of a leader inside God’s own Church.
There is a duality here. First, there is an Antiochus used by Satan to destroy God’s Church, spiritual Israel, from the inside. Then there is an Antiochus, leading the Holy Roman Empire, who destroys the nations of Israel.
“And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them” (verse 10). The Revised Standard Version reads “of the host of the stars.” God’s own people are helped by the stars, or angels, of God (Revelation 1:20), if they desire help. This evil power “stamped upon them”—the end-time Laodiceans—those saints of God who transgressed God’s law.
Strong’s Concordance defines host this way: “a mass of persons, especially organized for war” and “soldiers, army.” The expression also means to muster soldiers for warfare.
Host can refer to an army of demons, angels or men. God has an army of angels and saints. Satan has an army of demons and men—in this case sinning saints.
“Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down” (Daniel 8:11). These words are written in military terms. The Prince of the host is Christ. The word to should be against. This Antiochus, inside God’s Church, is fighting against Christ.
There are two great sins. The daily, or Work of God, has been taken away by this evil man. Also, the place of the sanctuary, the place where God’s Work was being done, was cast down.
This evil Antiochus took over God’s Church. Only the very elect remained loyal to God and were used to continue His Work.
God’s Work is always done through men and women. It takes time to continue God’s Work when it has been destroyed.
“And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practiced, and prospered” (verse 12). This evil Antiochus was given an army of God’s own people to fight against God! Satan gave him this army because God’s people sinned.
In 2 Thessalonians 2, this same event is called “a great falling away” in the Greek. That is another way of saying they were “casting truth to the ground,” or destroying the faith of God’s people.
First you must have the truth to cast it to the ground! Who had the truth in this end time? God sent an end-time Elijah (Herbert W. Armstrong) to “restore all things” (Matthew 17:10-11).
Elijah had to be the source of this truth discussed in Daniel 8, because he restored all things—all major truth in this end time!
Then, after the Church rebelled, God commanded His very elect to “prophesy again” (Revelation 10:11). We must do the continual by prophesying again as Mr. Armstrong did—with new revelation added, as always.
This is all so very simple and logical if we understand God’s truth.
The great responsibility that each of God’s members has is to keep the world and sin out of God’s Church. It is a continual battle when you have God’s truth. Satan is totally committed to destroying that truth.
We must fight to keep Satan and transgression out. That means you must have God’s government—headed by a leader like Mr. Armstrong—to implement God’s law. This is where the Laodiceans have transgressed. They rejected the government God gave to Mr. Armstrong. Only the pcg continues that same identical government. Every one of the Laodicean groups have rejected God’s government. That is why they are Laodicean!
What is our spiritual war about? It’s about fighting for truth. Once we have the truth, it is our basic duty to keep Satan from casting it to the ground. We are God’s loyal host—defenders of the faith.
Implementing God’s government and law is the only way to protect God’s precious truth.
God’s Church has suffered probably the worst defeat ever in this end time. And it all revolves around rejecting God’s government. That is where the great transgression lies.
Where do you find this war of Daniel chapter 8 today? If we know God’s truth, the answer is painfully clear!
The host, or God’s own army, has been “trodden under foot” because of its rebellion (verse 13). This is the greatest crisis in this end time! Why? Because many of those Laodicean people will lose their salvation. Nothing could be more serious.
The Last End
Daniel didn’t understand this vision God was giving him. God sent the archangel Gabriel to Daniel to explain (Daniel 8:15-16). “Understand, O son of man,” Gabriel said, “for at the time of the end shall be the vision” (verse 17). That means what it says! Though prophecy is dual, and this passage was fulfilled in part by Antiochus Epiphanes in the second century b.c., its main fulfillment is for “the time of the end”—the time immediately preceding the Second Coming of Jesus Christ to this Earth.
“Now as he was speaking with me,” Daniel wrote, “I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright. And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be”(verses 18-19). This all unfolds in the “last end”—the end of the end time, as we have often said. We are in that time! Notice it says, “for at the time appointed the end shall be.” The time appointed at the “last end” means the 1,150 days. That has come and gone—meaning there is not much more time left before Christ returns.
Skip down to verse 23: “And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.” Keep in mind the context. The main fulfillment of this is for the time of the end. It’s still speaking about what’s happening inside the Church. It’s a time when transgressors, or sinners, “are come to the full”—during the Laodicean era, led by a man of sin.
“And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people”(verse 24). There is a far greater power here than just a physical being. Satan is behind this man. As we have taught in the past, this verse does refer to a Satan-inspired man leading the great false church to rally a united Europe. In type, this verse applies to that Hitler-type leader. He will be the leader of the Holy Roman Empire.
The next verse is even more descriptive: “And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand” (verse 25). This man will destroy many people by preaching peace, peace—or love, love—but he practices the opposite. His is a policy of craft, or deceit, as it reads in the Revised Standard Version.
Satan is to blame above all. He is the father of lies and deceit (John 8:44). He never comes with warlike rhetoric—it’s always with words of “love” and “peace.” (Paul even said the devil is disguised as an “angel of light” in 2 Corinthians 11:14.) But make no mistake, Satan comes to destroy! He destroys by peace and, as Lange’s Commentary adds, “with suddenness, by a malignant purpose.”
In verse 26 of chapter 8, Daniel writes, “And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.” Today we are right in the midst of it. This is happening in God’s temple. This whole vision is about God’s Church right now—the last end. Daniel is trying to get us to see the kind of warfare going on behind the scenes.
This is the only time of salvation for those members called into the Church of God today. Judgment is now on us. If we fail this time, there is no second chance.
God gets very specific with this prophecy. It’s carefully planned to the very day! What a loving God we have. If God did so much to help Daniel fight against Satan while this was being revealed, what kind of battle do you think we will face as God opens our minds to actually understand and proclaim this message? Satan is raging mad right now. He’s been cast down to this Earth and his sight is fixed on you—your faith. How will you respond to his attack? Will you be like so many Laodiceans who have caved in to the pressure? Or will you respond as Daniel did?
“And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king’s business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it” (verse 27). He was astonished, and he didn’t even understand it! Now that you understand, how astonished are you?
